I am just so tired of seeing L being mean/cruel for the sake of being mean/cruel. this man is intentional with everything he does, not disrespectful just because. he is blunt and direct, but never with the intention to hurt. he's polite, regardless of his morals, and treats strangers with respect. once he decides that he hates you, he might be mean, but he's not going to put you in danger or publicly humiliate you. that's just not his character.

One thing I love about Spike is he’s so good for making a variety of queer headcanons about. He’s a bisexual man. He’s a he/him lesbian. He’s transmasc. She’s transfem. They’re nonbinary.

And every option is a great way to explore his character.

my main problem with That seeing red scene / where the arc goes from there (aside from the obvious) is that it’s such an uninteresting place to take the conversation they could have had about what makes a person good or bad. in the end it was “the soul” which is so vague and non-specific when it would have been really interesting to identify what makes the people in the buffy universe human or non-human.

with characters like anya and dawn as well as spike you have a perfect opportunity to have an arc where the scoobies have to recon with the fact that there may be more nuance to these “beings” than they were led to believe.

with the councils moral ambiguity already established it makes perfect sense to me that they would cover up any evidence that there may be more moral ambiguity in vampire slaying than they let on. not so much so that the entire organisation as well as buffys personhood is immediately disavowed as wrong and a non-worthy cause but enough that we get to ask the question of what makes a person (or demon, or vampire) “good”.

“the soul” may be an interesting answer to some people but i think it’s a huge cop out. being good means means choosing good everyday no matter what you’ve done in the past and they didn’t have to all but ruin a major character and traumatise another (only to then never address that trauma) in order to, poorly, make that point.
