I haven’t written since May.

They took the journal. I guess I wasn’t supposed to ask the things I did. Or maybe they didn’t like how I said them. They didn’t explain. They just took it.

Now it’s back. On my bed this morning. No warning. No one said anything about it. It’s probably a test.

Everything feels like a test now.

They’ve changed the training again. It’s harder. Longer. No breaks between sessions. Just orders. It’s more strict. More cold. They don’t call it practice anymore. Now it’s conditioning.

There are new people watching me. Not just doctors but military. I can tell. They don’t wear coats or carry clipboards. They wear black with gloves. They don’t talk to me. They just stand at the corners with their arms crossed like they’re waiting to see if I mess up.

Sometimes I catch them watching me longer than before. Not saying anything. Just watching. Like I’m some animal in a cage.

Dr. Park still does the evaluations, but now he’s always flanked by two others. Dr. Yao and someone with silver hair I don’t know the name of. They talk in a different code. Use words I don’t understand. One of them looked at my file last week and said I was “past Stage 3 trajectory.” Dr. Park looked nervous when he said that.

I think I heard someone say I’m the first to survive Stage 2. I don’t know what that means, but I think it’s supposed to be important.

More combat drills. More obstacle runs. Night sessions. Simulation rooms. I’m not training like a kid anymore. I’m training like a soldier. Except no one said I signed up for that.

They started putting weights on my ankles last week. My legs felt like they’d snap but I kept moving.

They always watch to see if I break.

During drills, they gave me a role. I’m Tracker. Makes sense, I guess. My ears pick up more than they think I notice.

I hear them talking sometimes when they think I’m too far down the hall. They say words like viability and asset conditioning and Phase Two clearance. I don’t know what Phase Two is. But it doesn’t sound good.

And I keep getting pulled for extra scans. Extra strength tests. They keep measuring my reflex time. My bite pressure. My rage indicators.

They act like I can’t hear them whisper when they think I’m out of range. But I can. My hearing’s too good now.

I haven’t told anyone what happens to me when I get too mad. When my heart pounds too fast and everything smells sharp and my hands feel wrong. My claws come out even when I don’t mean to. I know they’ve noticed the marks in the walls.

But I keep my face blank. I nod when they speak. I do what I’m told.

Because if I let them see what I’m really feeling, they’ll file another report. They’ll lock me away like the others.

And I’m not going to disappear.

I don’t care how many of them watch. I don’t care how many times they try to shape me into something I’m not.

I’m still me.

Even if I have to pretend to be someone I am not.

Canopy Pergola Canopy: This canopy was custom made.I made the shades. I used two Sunbrella Canvas Pattern in cream and navy. Grommets on the sides and cup hooks on beams to hang. They are a little tedious to take down but it is only once a year. The fabric is three separate panels, it was attached with eye-hooks to the pergola. It is very practical for shade purposes, it would not be very practical for rain. The curtains are separate from the canopy. All of the hardware is hidden between beams. The curtains are on a Kirsh Ripple Fold drapery system. The structure is about 12′ x 12′. The curtains draw to the center. The awnings are three separate strips with grommets in the sides. The day the designer was talking about exterior colors, the interior designer was wearing a blue shirt. The client looked at her shirt, and said, “I want the exterior to be that exact color.” So, they sent the shirt to their painters and they color-matched the siding perfectly to the color of the shirt. What do your OCs smell like?

Jodie - Lavender and Marlboro cigarettes. Lavender is a favourite scent of mine and it's a calming scent, I associate a lot of anxiety with Jodie given a lot of the stuff she went through so she probably has to bathe in the essential oil to feel relaxed lmao and she's a heavy smoker, so she's not escaping that smoke smell. It's oddly charming on her.

Keith - smells like shit. No- I'm kidding. He smells like tobacco, but specifically that intense cigar kind. He also probably smells minty, too - don't forget a cheap cologne, unbranded and pungent. Harsh on the nostrils when first applied but eases into a decent enough smell that you can bear to stand it.

Ashley - black coffee, a fading scent of a floral perfume, something sweet but reminiscent of earthly. When she's been at work, you might catch a faint smell of gasoline and heat.

Sarah - she smells very clinical. To begin with, it's the freshness of a new clinical bed, new sheets and left behind flowers (roses). Later, the scent of a hospital room, an almost tactile smell of ammonia and cleaning products, as well as complete sterilisation.

Franca - earthly - think sage, thyme, with a hint of something fruity, maybe peach, or coconut. Sometimes she smells of antiseptic.

Nanette - like a walking bakery, the smell of fresh bread and sweet baked goods often follow her around. But don't forget the scent of a lingering male body spray, or the dab of a heavy musky smell on her wrist.

Esme - grease, gasoline, like she's spent days in a workshop amongst metal, accompanied by the scent of petrichor.

Hola bonita <3 I have been thinking Ashley and Jr so much lately- I am very excited to talk about her and these questions 😊 👀

👑 - Person who raised your OC and/or was important during their formative years

The obvious two are Frank and Jodie Woods, her parents; they're a close knit family, very protective of each other and one of the people that inspires her most is her Dad. Her mum does, too, but that intense inspiration comes a lot later in life when Ashley finds out about Jodie's past. But as a kid and teenager, seeing her Dad still be fucking awesome despite being in a wheelchair, despite what other's might call limitations, he proves to her every day that you can do whatever the fuck you want and nothing can stop you. I know for a fact that the knowledge of Alex and Sarah Mason would influence her, too, even though she doesn't remember them - she was too young to remember them when they passed (queried passed away, regarding Alex). I think she would ask about them and Jodie and Frank would talk about them, the good memories, the memories not tarnished by their tragic fates. I think they would also do that for David and though I feel it's more of a tense subject for the boy, I think Ashley would secretly idolise those two.

Some more people that I think would have been important in her formative years would have been Aleks Adler and her children (I don't think she would really rate Russel Sr, just because she would have barely seen him. I'm also not sure in what capacity they would have ever seen each other in her younger years, you know? Maybe kinda in passing). I think Aleks would be very important because 1) she's the mother of her future husband and 2) Aleks is a part of her parents' lives and they see her often. She's that sweet family friend that's more family than friend, that Ashley would remember being able to turn to if she couldn't turn to her parents. And lastly, but probably one of the most important people that she had in her life is definitely Russell Jr, Aleks and Adler's son. They grew up together, were great friends, he taught her a lot and vice verser. No matter what, he was always there and supported her whenever needed. They got into a lot of mischief as kids, continued into their teen years and adulthood. They're definitely a power couple! I honestly don't think she would have turned out as balanced had Russell Jr not been there; they're kind like the yin-yang, yk? Two half of the same whole, but slightly opposite. I do think Ashley may have been more of a nuisance had Jr not been there to kinda rein her in a little! (But also, her sense of adventure pulled him out of his shyness.) He's just very important to her and if they hadn't gotten together, he would have been someone she would have fought to keep in her life.

🌹 - First relationship

OOOOOOhhhhhh I was thinking about this and I think she really wouldn't have been bothered about dating anyone until possibly her late teens; maybe 18/19? That might have been the age when she had her first proper relationship. I don't think it would have lasted very long, maybe a year? Maybe until the end of her uni/college days?

I may have to be corrected, but this is about the age that American's attend university, right? But it's called College instead? Anyway- my point is that her first relationship would have started in uni. She's left home, she's in a dorm, maybe it's a guy she shares the dorm space with and they hit it off etc.

(Again, I don't actually know how dorm situations work in America, as over here, England, it's essentially a flat of 8 rooms and it's mixed. I had to share with all genders and yeah people hooked up and relationships started because they met there- that's how I kind of imagine this.)

I do think that this first relationship would have deteriorated simply due to jealousy; I don't think the guy would have liked how close she was with Russell Jr. Maybe this idea that guys and gals can't be friends. Yet he'd be fine with her and David because "he's more like a brother to you, your parents kinda took him in". Flawed logic, yk?

I may have to work more on this guy's character, actually put a name to him, a face too.

Anyway, she would have realised he wasn't exactly great and would have stood up for her friendship - if he can't trust her, then there's no relationship.

💎 - Chosen family (including warband)

Chosen family would definitely include David Mason - even though it's not official, I think they would see each other as siblings. They were raised together for a time, between him visiting his aunts and staying with Jodie and Frank.

I think that other chosen family would include some of the other pilots that she trained with during her Top Gun training. You have to be close knit and trusting when in the air and part of something that elite - there's no room for mistrust and she'd say it's hard not to see the group as family.

Of course, the extended Adler family would become chosen family, too (even if at some point she'd love to light a fire under Russell Sr's ass. She doesn't out of respect for everyone else and an understanding that the past is in the past.)

I think that when they were toddlers, heading into young kids, Jodie might have noticed that they're particularly protective of each other. She would notice how Ashley most definitely treated him differently than other kids that she might have called friends whilst at school. But most likely placed it down to "well, they're best friends."

I think Jodie and Frank would have had conversations later on when they reached their teenage years, where their daughter is starting to form into her own person, find her opinions, thoughts, feelings and Jodie would start to notice how close they are.

Again, though she might have suspected something other about their relationship, she just put it down to that they're best friends!

I think Jodie really became suspecting when Ashley brought home her first boyfriend and she took one look at her daughter and could see it in her eyes.

Friends don't look at friends like that, you know? And the way Ashley looks at Jr is very very different to how she looks at her boyfriend - her eyes light up whenever she sees Jr, she smiles more just by being near him, she's brighter, laughing more, goofier and more sincere. Around her boyfriend, she's not the same!

But, her daughter had to figure it out for herself - Jodie would be there to give nudges in the right direction if ever she went for advice, but she left it all down to Ashley to figure out.

Mika, Kaida's mother, is best friends with Frank, and likely by extension, Jodie

Because of this fact, would Mika (and Kaida once she's born) be around Ashley?

I now have a mental image of Mika giving tiny Ashley katana lessons without Frank and Jodie's knowledge

asdfghjk ok I see that crossed out writing and I find it hilarious that one day Frank and Jodie come across Ashley honing her skills and they're like ??? where in the world did she learn that?!

But, to answer your main question!

If Mika is best friends with Frank, I can imagine that Jodie would make an effort to get to know her and then become friends soon after (as long as there's the understanding that it might take a while, Jodie does not trust easy and holds most people she's friendly with at arm's length. It'll take time but eventually I can see them being good friends!) Of course, she would also come into contact with Ashley - even if Jodie is super protective, those vetted by the couple can see Ash!

I imagine that they've probably had downtime together, or Mika had come around for a catch-up, or they've met somewhere.

One thing I know is that Ashley is a very mischievous and inquisitive child and wants to interact, torment, follow, giggle and point, play with everyone she meets that is even slightly interesting to her. Mika would definitely be that kind of person for Ashley.

I think Ashley is a good little bit older than Kaida, by the way, but I don't think that this would have an effect of whether they would interact. Ashley was born in '83 so she's 9 years older. I could see Ashley maybe seeing Kaida as an annoying little sister relationship but in the kind of fond way sibling energy has when it comes to little siblings (trust, I'm the little sister and even though I tormented the absolute shit out of my older sister, her love for me is unconditional, promise).

Toddler Kaida might follow her around and maybe teen Ashley sometimes babysits for Mika when she and her parents go out - Ashley would have made a very good big sister, but because she doesn't have biological sibling, you bet she'll secretly claim Kaida XD

If ever she found out someone was giving her shit, she'd be rolling up her sleeves ready to tackle a mf.

Overall, I think these characters would definitely know each other and though there is the age gap between Ash and Kaida, they'd still interact ;u;

Oooh, I think I remember saying aaaages ago that Jodie definitely has something she keeps on her person all the time. I'll try and keep this neat and tidy!

A drawing that toddler David Mason drew for her the first time she met him.

A photo of Frank taken of him in Vietnam, Sarah Mason gave her.

Photos of her family in general, she has some pinned on her dresser in her shared room with Frank.

Not necessarily something she treasures, but it is important to her; her puzzle book. She completed it but kept it, filling the pages to the brim with notes and thoughts - it helped her through her recovery after the brainwashing. You would look at all the scribbles and notes, some in English, some in Russian, some codes and nonsensical babbling; it's the visualisation of a mind on the brink of breaking. When she looks back on it, she's reminded of how far she's come.

Sarah

A huge photo album she has of hundreds of photos she'd collected over the years.

Her wedding ring.

A lock of David's baby hair in a locket, she used to wear it around her neck.

Ashley

Her dad's bandanna - I feel like he would give it to her later on in life.

After her mum passes later in her life, she would definitely ask Frank if she could have Jodie's wedding ring to wear on a chain around her neck. (Later when both would have passed, she would also add Frank's to that chain, too, keep 'em both with her).

idk man, this guy is an enigma. Would he even treasure anything? I suppose this would depend on the AU. Canon Keith probably doesn't give two shits about sentimentality or treasuring inanimate objects - will they give him what he wants? No.

In the Boys AU I have with @walder-138 it's another photo, but it would be of him and Liberty's OC Annika. The image is probably catching her off guard and he's being a bit of an annoying jerk, but you can tell he took it with good intentions. For once, the man actually cares about someone more than himself.

OR actually, probably something that she made for him, if she ever did make anything for him. Like, maybe a shiftily made badge that says 'u suck' or something, but he'd treasure it.

Franca

I think I mentioned this in another post, but I can't find it; a Saint Christopher necklace her mum gave her. Her mum says it belonged to her great grandmother. Franca's relationships with her family are, for a lack of a better word, fucked; she remembers the last conversation with her mum was hushed and rushed, with her fumbling to push the necklace into her hand. All the while, her mum is looking over shoulder to check the dad isn't watching; it was also the last time she saw her mum. Saint Christopher is believed to watch over travellers; it's comforting for her to think that, even though her mum doesn't really speak with her anymore (due to the dad) that her mum still wanted her to be safe, hence being given that specific necklace. She treasures it for that reason.

Nanette

Similarly to Sarah, it's her wedding ring - even after Soap's death Nanette wears it. I don't think she'll ever take it off.

A jumper of Soap's, the smell of him is slowly fading, but for now it still feels like he's there when she wears it.

An old, fraying teddy of a cartoonish looking dog - it's got big black beady eyes, the cushioning isn't as fluffed as it used to be. It's a childhood teddy and she keeps it on her bed.

A baby book - it details all of Lilidh's first things; first word, first step, first tooth. You get it!

Stephanie

A room filled with artwork her late husband Zach did. The room is untouched and will remain so, everything in there is like gold to her and she will stab someone if they touch it.

Some rings that were passed down from her mum's side of the family - when not at work, she wears all of them. They really suit her!

For your oc’s birthdays, was there a reason for those specific dates or where they chosen randomly? And bonus, does their zodiac sign fit them?

Hi Rosie!

I love this question, it really got me thinking about the zodiacs of my OCs!

To begin with, I will be honest, none of the dates *really* have any meaning behind them other than I thought about what time of year I would think the character would be born in. I think there's only two or three that were influenced by outer sources to have specific dates. I'll go through each one briefly and then also explain, when we get to the OC, what influenced my choices!

Black Ops

Jodie: 11th November. Her zodiac sign would be Scorpio. I did choose the 11/11 as a nod to the Armistice that was signed in 1918 bringing an end to WW1; I really enjoy learning about history and WW1 is one I took a deep interest in during my childhood alongside the Second World War. As for her sign? I think Scorpio fits! It's said to be one of the most mysterious and misunderstood signs, which makes sense for Jodie; it's also stated that they can be very secretive, which, again, also makes sense for Jodie! Especially before she became Jodie, as Nadežda was extremely guarded and always kept her cards close to her chest. It's also a water sign, though, which doesn't fit her, as I always see the motif of fire with her; perhaps she should have been a Leo, like her daughter. You can't have everything though, can you!

Sarah: 23rd July. Her zodiac sign would be Cancer. I was absolutely mortified when I came to look at what her zodiac sign would be, to find out it was Cancer. It's is by sheer coincidence that I chose that date, which gave her this sign, and then the illness to take her would be the same thing. I'm telling you, fucking mortified. I had a panic thinking oh my god, what if people think I was making a cruel joke out of it! I'm not, so I am thinking of changing her birthday. The sign suits her though, it's says that people of this sign are homebodies, they are emotionally intuitive and love their families. Sarah does love her family and enjoys being a mom and a wife, alongside her nursing duties, and I think the fact the sign is a water sign also suits her.

Ashley: 17th August. Her zodiac sign would be Leo. Now, when it came to choosing her date of birth, I wasn't thinking so much about specific dates or months, but rather the time of year. I always thought Ashley would be a summer baby, born in the warmer months and having a sunny day to celebrate her birthdays on. August is a pretty warm month, I reckoned, and I just went with the first number that came to mind. Now, this does make her a Leo, which I think is a perfect match for Ashley; these signs are noted as being natural born leaders, fiercely protective and passionate about things, as well as being a fire sign. Ashley fits the basics of this sign pretty decently, so yeah, a match!

Keith: 13th January. His zodiac would be Capricorn. 13 is seen as an unlucky number and this is the bastard man. AND, as of just googling, he would have, in fact, been born on FRIDAY THE 13TH. That's just hilarious. Anyway, let him be cursed, he deserves it. As for the sign? Yeah, decent match. They're said to be ambitious, having their eyes on the prize and stopping at nothing to get what they want. Sounds like him. Surprised to note that it's an earth sign, though, but I guess there are aspects of Keith that, when explored in healthy AUs, he is a very down-to-earth kinda guy when he wants to be. So, yeah, pretty happy with this match!

Modern Warfare

Franca: 1st July. Her zodiac sign would be Cancer. I chose the 1st because my birthday is also the 1st, just not of July. That's literally the reason I chose her birthday. July was just chucked in there because it sounded like the month she'd be born in. Unlike Sarah, Franca isn't a homebody in the sense she enjoys going back to a family; she has a family, that's TF141, and she is fiercely protective and loyal to them. And when her brother ends up on her doorstep, even after years of no-contact, she doesn't hesitate to take him in and give him a home (their father is a homophobic POS who kicked him out upon finding out his sexuality, Franca would have knocked his teeth down his throat had she been present). So, even though it's not the same strain of homebody as Sarah, it does still kinda work for Franca. I will say it's also noted that Cancer signs are notoriously difficult to get to know and they are extremely suspicious around strangers and that makes sense for Franca. I mean, it takes her and Ghost a heck of a long time to get to know each other and then even longer for them to admit they'd caught the feelings for each other. Both so guarded. Not only that, but there's a pessimism that Franca carries like a heavy weight on her shoulders, which is something else these signs are supposed to be like. So, again, I suppose another decent fit with some bits that don't quite fit.

Nanette: 30th August. Her zodiac would be Virgo. All I'll say is this sign is a decent match to Nanette; I'm also a Virgo, so I can vouch for this. Virgos are supposedly earth signs, focus on service, helpfulness and are great listeners and advice givers (whether we take our own advice is left to be questioned though). Nanette is someone I always view being surrounded by earthly colours, forests, greenery and earthly scents. She is someone who is a great friend because she listens and the likes; not only that, but they're apparently know for detail and focus, and Nanette is a creative person, with an eye for the finer details though can be self critical! I think what the sign misses about her, though, is that she can be spontaneous, even if she'd prefer a plan of action beforehand.

Shadow Company

Stephanie: 15th December. Her zodiac sign would be Sagittarius. Now, there is a 50/50 here because yes, the sign does fit her, but also no, the sign doesn't fit her. Let me explain. On the surface, a Sagittarius is apparently a free spirit, adventurous and juggles a lot socially, so has a lot of friends, and the likes. This is where it loses me because Stephanie is a shy person, she can't handle any attention on her, prefers to be in the background and does not have many friends to go around galavanting about with. However, she does like an adventure and she can be a free spirit, but only in front of a select few people. Otherwise, she's quite the recluse and prefers her own company. I wonder, though, whether that's because of the trauma she's gone through; if she hadn't had the life experiences I've given her, would se have been happy to galavant with a bunch of friends, or would she still be as shy and reclusive as she is? I'll have to think about that.

Klaus: 31st October. His zodiac sign would be Scorpio. I wanted his birthday to be on Halloween, ok? That's literally the reason XD Spooky month! I would say that he matches his sign, I feel like there's a lot of mystery surround Klaus, what his past is, how he became a Shadow and what he's done to get where he is. That, and he's a quiet guy. Secretive about some things, will dodge questions about other things. Water sign also makes sense because I associate ice with him. Cold and unforgiving but melts when shown a little warmth (looks over at Ester). He's also spent a lot of his life misunderstood. Dude is undiagnosed Autistic and he has a lot of traits that either went overlooked or refused to be acknowledged and he grew up a little socially inept. So, yeah, there's that! Thank you for the ask, I know this has been quite the long read, so I thank you for sticking with me!
