nah you are not about to come onto my silly blog and call me and my houselings puritans as if we're not devoted fans of a show we literally call "hate crimes md"

this is the last time i'm going to post about this topic, but for the record:

i see absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out offensive + outdated episodes of a tv show that stopped airing over a decade ago, so that newcomers to the series can be aware of what they're diving into. god forbid i agree with someone saying that maybe a main character berating a 10 year old for being overweight is a little uncomfortable to watch!!!

the house fandom wiki has extremely detailed synopses of each episode so that you can get the overarching plot developments without having to subject yourself to house saying cruel shit to a patient that you've had to hear from doctors in your real life a million times. and they have a ranking system out of 10 for how rare the diagnoses in each episode are, which is delightful.

of course it's not the same as watching the whole series but if you have a problem with the portrayal of certain issues in the show, it's a fine enough substitute.

Caleb x Reader

A/N: yah you call Caleb ge/gege in here. no, it's honorifics because your character starts off as 8! view this in the way you guys read about girls calling older guys "oppa" please. it's not meant to be anything more than that. caleb and mc are written as children here half the time. hope this helps.

You never actually learn how to ride a bike. 

And you don’t figure this out till you’re 13. 

At this point in your life, you’ve only gone bike riding with Caleb. He was the one who taught you so of course he’s the one who takes you.

“Why do you need to learn,” he asks, brows furrowing together half in confusion and half in annoyance. You huff and stomp your foot. You’re eight and all the other kids in the neighborhood know how to ride a bike but you’re still sitting on the back of Caleb’s. 

“You can just ride with me. I’ll take you wherever you need to go,” he continues. You roll your eyes, crossing your arms as you try to seem serious. Like a grown up. 

Caleb just stifles a laugh as he tries not to look away but you can see the mirth sparkling in his eyes and it makes you want to reach out and smack him for being so mean to you. You want to be taken seriously and: 

“The other kids left me because they didn’t have a seat for me and I didn’t know how to take yours. Teach me, gege.”

You whine, switching up tactics and latching your arms around his in an attempt to act cute. Caleb usually always gives in if you’re cute enough and when he doesn’t react, you press your cheek to his arm, squirming against him like the child you are. 

“Please. Please. Please.” 

Caleb sighs before a soft smile spreads across his face. He reaches out, fingers ruffling your hair before agreeing. 

That had been then. 

Now, you’re thirteen and stomping back inside with scraped knees and tears tracking down your cheeks. You purse your lips to keep them from quivering and head straight for Caleb. 

He pokes his head out of the kitchen when he hears the door slam and alert him of your presence, his eyes bright. 

“Hey pipsqueak- woah, what happened to you,” he says, setting down the wooden spoon he’d been using to stir the pot of braised pork he’d been making for dinner. He can see the way your cheek is redder on one side compared to the other and immediately makes his way over to you. 

You meet him halfway there and before he can get another word out, you sock him in the arm. You barely leave a mark but Caleb hisses in surprise, rubbing the spot. 

“Hey! What was that for? What happened,” he asks. There’s concern in his gaze as he reaches out to pull a leaf out of your hair. It’s clear you’ve taken a pretty bad tumble and for some reason, it’s his fault. 

“You’ve been using your evol on me when we ride bikes haven’t you,” you ask and he freezes. You can see the guilt flash across his face before he schools it into a practiced smile. The jerk! That was confession enough! 

“You caught me,” he answers, a cheeky grin on his face. He anticipates your movements before you do, fingers wrapping around your wrist that threaten to punch him once more. His grip is tight but not bruising and you huff as you try to pull away but he doesn’t let go and so instead you try the other one. 

Caleb knows you inside and out so he stops that arm too and now, the both of you are standing in the middle of the living room. You, huffing with anger and embarrassment, and Caleb, guiltily smiling with both of your hands in his. 

“Caleb! Do you know how embarrassing it was? I fell. As soon as I got on and tried to push, I fell because you didn’t bother to teach me properly,” you argue and you see the guilty look on Caleb’s face before he pulls you into his chest. He wraps his arms around you, patting the back of your head. 

“Aw, I’m sorry pips,” he says but you can tell he’s trying not to laugh. “I just got scared every time I saw you leaning to one side so I used my evol. I didn’t think you actually couldn’t ride a bike without my help.” 

It’s a half truth, he thinks as he bites back a laugh when you begin to hit his back. It’s fine. He’ll let you get out all your anger as long as you rely on him for help. 

“It was so embarrassing, ge,” you complain before slowly you fist your fingers into his shirt. “I scraped my knees and fell on my face. It hurt a lot.” 

Caleb knows. He’d seen it all when you came in and pursing his lips together, he pulls back to examine you properly. Normally, he’d cup your face and get a good look but he doesn’t want to risk hurting you more than you already feel. 

With a soft sigh, he strokes your cheek. 

“I’m sorry pipsqueak. I really am. I’ll make it up to you and actually teach you how to ride a bike okay?” 

You look away when he pulls back, fingers still fisted in his shirt but you nod anyways. 

As long as he actually taught you.

Caleb is a liar. 

He still never actually taught you how to ride a bike and now, you’re 22 and staring Caleb down as he pats the backseat of his bike with a grin. 

“Jump on, pips,” he tells you and you cross your arms, huffing as you turn your nose up. 

You think back to thirteen and scraped knees and immediately get mad at him. 

“Don’t wanna,” you argue and Caleb laughs. You’re tugged in by nothing but you’ve been around Caleb long enough now that you know he’s using his evol to pull you closer. You don’t even yelp as you’re lifted onto the seat but you do look away as you cross your legs. 

It has Caleb laughing even more. He took pleasure in watching you be an absolute brat. 

“You’re not still mad I never taught you how to ride a bike are you,” he asks and there’s that same sparkle in his eyes from all those years ago. 

After he had promised, he had made excuses. 

He was too busy to teach you. He was too tired to go outside and they could build models instead. He would just take you on the back of his to save time. 

It’d been excuse after excuse and before you knew it, Caleb had gone off to Skyhaven for college and you still hadn’t learned how to ride a bike. 

Could you have learned on your own? Yes but…but it was scary when you didn’t have Caleb around to catch you. And so you’d never learned. 

Now, that unfulfilled promise comes back to mind when Caleb suggests a bike ride along the river. 

When you huff in response, his grin widens. 

“I’ll teach you next time,” he promises and you glare at him and he loves it because at least your gaze is back on him once more. 

“You said that last time!” 

“I mean it this time,” he replies, his grin wide and full of delight. You have to look away in case you melt and agree like you always do. 

He leans over then, one arm wrapped around your waist to steady you as he presses a kiss to your temple. 

“Promise,” he whispers softly into your skin. 

You smack him away, a complaint on the tip of your tongue but you hold back and instead, your fingers curl into his shirt. 

“Just pedal,” you grumble, forcing him to face forward as you press a burning cheek to his back. Your eyes glance over the glimmering river as the last of the sun's rays sparkle across it but you’re too focused on how warm Caleb’s back feels, the sound of his laughter vibrating in his chest. 

You press closer, hold him tighter just as he had wanted, and inhale. 

Somehow, even after all these years, Caleb still smells like home.

“Nine would have treated Martha better than Ten did”

I need to talk about this argument that never seems to stop circulating.

Note: Not a venomous/anti post. There’s more than enough of that across fandom spaces as is, and this is supposed to be a place for ✨sweet, blissful escapism✨

When making this argument, people seem to envision a scenario in which Nine never met Rose.

While I can appreciate a good hypothetical, recognizing Rose's significance to the Doctor (Nine and Ten) is essential to understanding why things with Martha played out the way they did in the first place.

In the third series, the Doctor is grieving. This grief is deliberately threaded into nearly every script, whether spoken aloud or not (and these are just a few examples):

He's burning in Rose’s wake the entire time Martha travels with him, which is why it’s so frequently called upon: It’s 100% deliberate in framing his grief. He grieved as Nine too, of course— having been fresh on the heels of the Time War — but then he met Rose, which changed everything.

Back then, he was still a rude, traumatized pain in the ass, but we watch Rose soften more of those jagged edges with every episode as they grow closer; as he lets his guard down and forms a deep connection with her.

He falls in love (against his better judgment) and it's game over.

And yes: provided S1E1 had been titled 'Martha', one can realistically assume things might have unfolded similarly to how they did with Rose. However, it wouldn’t have been that way just because the Doctor was Nine and “Nine was different” — it would be because he wasn’t already in love with someone else. The same can't be said for the start of S3.

Think of it like this: if Rose AND Martha had been in that cellar — if Nine had taken both of them along with him in S1 — we’d eventually be looking at the most melodramatic love triangle ever, what with him living in close quarters with two brilliant, gorgeous, compassionate young women... But Doctor Who is plenty “soap opera” as is with just one woman in the TARDIS.

(I certainly wouldn’t object to reading that fic, though)

Now, regarding the unrequited elephant in the room…

His inability to be romantic with Martha isn’t because he thinks her lesser, nor is it for lack of compatibility. It isn't because Rose is any better than her. It certainly isn’t just because he’s Ten.

It’s really only for one reason, which can't be denied — and now I’m a broken record:

He is still in love with Rose.

Nine is Ten, and Ten is only such a mess in S3 because he’s just lost the love of his life. Martha merely got caught in the crosshairs of a volatile Time Lord in mourning, and yes — it sucks. Absolutely.

But it also feels dismissive to chalk Ten and Martha’s relationship up to little more than some sort of mindless dance of pining, jealousy, and toxicity.

Ten trusted Martha with his life over and over again — and hers, with him. He constantly praised her brilliance, happily carting her around time and space with no intention of letting her go. In the BBC’s extended universe of novels/comics/cartoons/etc, there’s so much depth to their relationship: love and trust and trauma and sacrifice. They had their own special bond as mates, their own complexities — so it’s a bummer that it's forever overshadowed by the other things.

I’m not denying that there was a lot of stuff that sucked/was for sure toxic about Ten's S3 behavior, but so many of the things I've seen him catching flak for can be directly attributed to being A Clueless Fucking Alien Idiot (not a trait that’s unique to Ten) — as well as his flat-out obliviousness to Martha’s feelings.

So yes, I agree: if Rose never existed, he would have treated Martha differently as Nine. He also would have treated her differently as Ten. Certainly.

But Rose did exist, and when discussing canon, it matters.

“He tells me that he absolutely, 100% loves Rose... He tells me how my daughter; my wonderful, beautiful, clever little girl saved him from himself before… And he says that’s all because of me! I made her into the Rose Tyler that saved him.”

Martha got the short end of the stick in S3. She came round at the wrong place and time, but that doesn't mean it was all bad. It doesn't mean the Doctor didn’t adore her. It certainly doesn't mean the time they spent together was wasted or worthless. They were brilliant!

Sure, he could be a twat, but let it be known that he was a twat with Rose as well, both as Nine and Ten. I’m sure Tentoo can be plenty infuriating, too. So while I'll defend Ten (and Tentoo) into the ground forever and ever and ever, I'll concede that he's fucked up.

The Doctor is a certified Pain In The Ass. It’s one of the things I love so much about this character — dynamics.

But never forget that Martha was goddamn tough as nails and overcame every bit of it. She moved on with her life, and the Doctor moved on with his. One can only pray that, when they inevitably drag her back onto the show (which feels inevitable if I'm honest), we see at once that she's been living her best life for all these years.

Arcane as a show has never shied away from the violence children experience. Jayne killing that child, the child traffickers, Silco’s entire existence, Sevika and other goons lining up to kill teenage Vi, Marcus drugging and locking her up, the violence she faced in prison and more.

If she had hurt children and gassed all of Zaun that would have been shown or mentioned because that is deeply relevant to the plot. Arcane is not a documentary and she is not a real person who the writers are “protecting”

so please for the love of god stop posting dumb shit like this all these months later, i’m tired 😭

Hi! Also a heathen here, fyi. Not sure why you would jump to the opinion that I wasn't, considering it is blatantly all my blog is about. I've got some troubling news for you about the debated accuracy of historical sources about Norse heathenry and its practices.

I've done my research. I've listened to reconstructionist heathens on the subject. I'm friends with one who insists that throwing runes isn't accurate enough if it isn't hand carved onto sticks made of certain species of tree. This is not, by any means, an uncontestable debate here.

You can do whatever you like of course. But you might want to take a step back and take a deep breath or two and calm down here. No one is coming to steal meaning from your personal practice.

Unpopular opinion:

Throwing runes, like reading tarot cards, is a fun and sometimes helpful game we play with ourselves to exercise the human instinct to find patterns. There's nothing wrong with it but I wish people would stop thinking they HAVE to learn runes and divination.

and even before i was fully proship, i was ALREADY fed up with people who seemed to spend so much of their time online harassing other people over ships they don't like or acting like certain people are like. moral atrocities for... liking a ship.

i feel like antis don't understand just how much they're pushing people towards a proship mindset when they just. can't. leave. people. be. like, it honestly feels like these people spend all their time thinking up new ships or pieces of media to be angry about because they don't know how to engage with the internet in a way that genuinely brings them joy and doesn't involve trying to ruin their own and somebody else's day by refusing to live and let live in regards to content they don't like. like. those pixels don't need you white-knighting for them, buddy. nobody is erasing the identities of asexual people or being acephobic by thinking alastor and lucifer should fuck. please go touch some grass.

That account on twitter with like 100k followers that's watching robron for the first time and their in early 2015 and there upset over robron have a fight cause they got together like 2 months before and based on the others ships on her account this might be their first soap so I am waiting to see the inevitable wtf is this when she gets to the lodge and your probably right that the lodge is gonna weave alot new people out of becoming fans because most people that are getting into it now don't watch soaps and try to apply real life morals to the characters (they all do shitty stuff some more that others) like the reason I love robert so much as a character is cause he is like all you could want from a character in a soap and I only know Ryan's version of him but I know the actor before him was also very loved but robert does some messed up stuff but later down the line his hearts in the right place when doing said messed up stuff (mostly) like finding liv, helping aaron through all the stuff with Graham and that whole storyline and alot it other stuff but if your not a fan of soaps and you don't understand how they work he would be a character that is really hated (which he does have a lot of haters on twitter alot of aaron fans don't like him - it's part of why I've come over to tumblr) but in the context of soap operas he's the best kind of character (honestly I'm also just a simp for most bisexual disasters it like one of my favourite things)

and i know there was apparently a twitter robron fandom back in the day but we had very little interaction beyond that one account that would come and steal all our best posts lol - i remember meeting a random twt user a few years back who loved robron and had no idea there a tumblr fandom even existed (which!! wild for the 2010s). i got the impression that the twt fandom was not quite as entrenched in soaps as we were.

now we’re in 2025 and yk what, i’m simply not afraid of gatekeeping robron - we’ve stared down the gates of hell and suffered through the consequences lmaooo, and there’s truly only so many times a person can make the “genre awareness is a foundational part of critically engaging with media” post that will inevitably get ignored.

I just saw someone saying that the only reason she had sex with Ned is because it was expected of her to give him heirs. Which clearly must have been true in the beginning of their marriage but again, did we not read the same books? Someone said that the relationship between Fang Duobing and Li Lianhua is similar to that of Wei Wuxian and Jin Ling, hence they can't understand the fanghua ship. What do you think?

i mean they're free to think whatever they want but fang duobing is not a child, which jin ling is.

wei wuxian's relationship to jin ling is messy because his relationship to the jiang siblings was also messy. jiang fengmian did not make the situation any clearer by treating wei wuxian as though he was a member of their inner family. it makes sense that given his connection to the jiang, he would feel a similarly messy, but mostly familial attachment to jin ling.

li lianhua as li xiangyi did not have this kind of relationship with shan gudao. they were orphans together, and then they were martial siblings who were treated as peers and equals by their shifu and shiniang, and then they shared leadership of the sigu sect together up until [redacted for spoilers 👀]. their understanding of who they were to each other--at least in terms of more neutral things like kinship ties or secular relations--was defined much more clearly. beyond that, li xiangyi was still a kid himself when fang duobing was born; someone can correct me if i'm wrong here but i think the age gap between them is only like 8 years, if that. wei wuxian, in contrast, was already either in his very late teens or early 20s by the time jin ling was born.

if this person is talking about something more specific, like fang duobing and li lianhua's behaviour towards each other, i'd like to know the specific example. because i do think that the early episodes set up your expectation for something like the learned shizun and bright-eyed disciple dynamic, but imho the show begins to subvert this as early as the fifth or sixth episode. fang duobing consistently challenges li lianhua to reconsider and reassess who li lianhua thinks fang duobing is in a way that jin ling does not do for wei wuxian, and i don't mean that to be critical of wei wuxian! because wei wuxian's relationship to jin ling isn't at the very heart of mdzs as a story: his relationship with lan wangji is. and in mlc, the relationship at its heart that holds the disparate pieces of the narrative together is the one between li lianhua and fang duobing.

something that pisses me off irrational amounts is when people don't get the distinction between

shipping -> wanting a pairing to be canon, believing that they are legitimately in love within the source material and wanting them to get together canonically

and shipping -> loving a pairing and creating/consuming fan content based around that ship because you love the characters and their dynamic

I very rarely have ships that I want to be canon, usually because I don't think the writers could do it better than fanfiction can, but also because it isn't necessary sometimes! And it really pisses me off when I see discourse around ships that are popular for the former kind of shipping, and kind of makes me feel bad? Even though I know I'm not doing anything wrong or annoying, it just kind of sours the whole shipping and fandom experience a little, like this is supposed to be fun!

The thing I love about my ships is just having fun putting them in Situations, reading and writing about them being cuties, gushing about them with other fans who love them, I couldn't give a flying fuck whether the ship are canon or not and I think we should all take things a little less seriously
