02- Lover
Tumblr media
pairing- Spencer Reid x Male!reader summary- slow burn story of how spencer reid fell in love with Y/n L/n warnings- profanities, some arguing, lemme know if theres anything else! wc- 2k a/n-big big thank you to @avis-writeshq for proof reading this!! And guys I know 2k isn't a lot but it's a lot for me and im rly proud of my self 😚
part 1//part 2
While the interactions y/n and Spencer had started sharing on the train had plagued both men's minds, it had been for very different reasons. If you asked Spencer, he'd be inclined to use words such as enchanting, or describe it as a delightful rush when he thought about it. But if you asked y/n, he might be more likely to use words like conflicting, frustrating, yet electric. Like the rush of doing something bad, while in motion you're given a short, small burst of adrenaline, but once done an equal rush of guilt follows.
This guilt was egged on by Gina- y/n’s girlfriend. If you asked any of his friends they would say that she’s not good for him. She was about as emotionally mature as a highschooler, to put it lightly. Almost immediately after the couple left their honeymoon phase, Gina became jealous and overbearing. She would yell at him for not texting her back immediately, or accuse him of cheating at least once a week. And many other incidents of the sort. Y/n knew it was toxic and had been telling his friends he would break up with her soon- but somehow never got around to doing it.
Lately their arguments had revolved around the topic of one man- Spencer. Gina felt y/n was spending too much time with him, 'I'm your girlfriend- not him!’, about summed up the argument they’d engaged in the night previously.
“Well how would you feel if i was hanging out with some guy from the gym all the time, and flirting with him, and sexting him all the time like a whore- wouldn't you feel the same?!”
Gina was absolutely incensed when she found out that her boyfriend traded numbers with the genius, and texted each other regularly. In her mind they were basically having sex, and y/n was basically creating on her.
“Oh don't you dare turn this around on me! we only hang out on the train, it's not like we’re getting dinner together or something! god you need to get a grip…”
The last part was mumbled but Gina still heard it- and was even more incensed by it. And although y/n knew the way he was handling it was a bit childish, but he didnt care- he just so mad in the moment. He was enraged at Gina for not trusting him enough.
“What the fuck y/n?!! You’re such a liar!!”
And so they went on in circles like this for at least an hour. Gina would make an argument consisting of primarily lies and assumptions, and y/n would try to convince her otherwise- fruitlessly of course. Round and round they went, and needless to say y/n slept on the couch that night. And the next morning Spencer noticed y/n massaging his neck every couple of minutes- despite y/n’s attempts to be discreet about the pains in his neck. He didn't want to make a big deal about it, as he had slept on the couch many times before anyways after fights with his girlfriend.
—
“You seem chipper-”
Derek observed with a teasing smile when Spencer pushed through the large doors of the BAU, the comment doing nothing to deter the unusually large smile plastered on his face. Said smile grew even slightly more when he felt the vibration of a text against the fabric in the pocket of his pants, knowing it was a text from y/n. He didn't text anyone else much anyways for it not to be him. If anything y/n had taught him how to text. Of course Spencer knew how to type and send a text to someone, but didn't do it unless he had to- he’d rather call them or talk to them in person. That was of course until y/n offered him his number and spencer had to then awkwardly explain that he didn't really text all too much. When he found this out, y/n had taken it upon himself to teach Spencer how to text with him. He called it their texting for dummies lessons. They spent almost a week's worth of commutes doing said lessons.
“Oh I just had a nice morning that's all.”
Spencer was quick to shrug off the comment, knowing the endless teasing that would ensue if Derek knew the real reason for his extra large smile that morning.
“or do you mean a nice night? who was it- the librarian, or no no the only other person in the theater watching a 3 hour long sci-fi!”
Derek spoke with a wiggle to his eyebrow and teasing lilt to his voice. Luckily Derek got Spencer's back when Penelope poked her head out the round table room and held up the casefile, announcing a new case.
“Heads up crime fighters! we got another one!”
Her words caught the attention of the Profilers scattered about the bullpen and drew them towards the briefing room. Spencer rushed to finish pouring the 6th sugar packet into his coffee mug and texted Y/n to let him know he had a case, before shoving his phone into his pocket and half jogging to his seat around the table.
Y/n knew about Spencer's job, mostly because the first time Spencer wasn’t on the train for a couple days while on a case, y/n freaked. When he got on the train again a couple days later as if nothing had happened- y/n demanded an explanation. And now Spencer texted him whenever he got called on a case- even though he knew y/n wouldn't worry and just assume he was on a case- it was an excuse for them to text more. And Spencer would take any opportunity possible to talk to him.
Later, as the team boarded the jet spencer overheard JJ and Emily practically gossiping about what had happened that morning with derek. spencer just sighed, pulling a worn book from the messenger bag at his hip, and flipping to the doggy eared page. Although he was still slightly distracted by JJ and Emily not so subtly talking about him.
“you think he’s found someone?”
emily’s giggle reminded spencer of that of a school girl gossiping. Emily leaned towards JJ, eager to hear what she had been told penelope- the ever terrible secret keeper. Not that his recent mood shifts were much of a secret anyways.
“i mean do you see how much more hes been texting? INstead reading during his lunch break he texts. What- or who could be so intriguing that Spencer Reid chooses it over a book? a crush! thats who.”
JJ and Emily seemed convinced at Emily's argument for Spencer's recent change in behavior. This overheard conversation sparked thoughts about y/n in spencers mind. And spencer agreed silently with emily that y/n was worth not making progress on a book he was reading. As in his opinion talking with y/n was the most entertaining thing he could do.
When Spencer returned home from the case in Kentucky, needless to say he was absolutely exhausted. But despite every signal his body was giving him- he decided to stay awake in order to finish the book y/n had recommended to him. That way the two could discuss the novel on their daily commute.
The moment y/n stepped onto the train the next morning, Spencer could tell something was off- and it didnt take a profiler to see something was wrong his hands fidgeted at his sides more than normal, his eyes had large bags under them, and his entire demeanor sagged like the bag on his back was filled with large stones. When y/n crossed the subway car and took his normal seat, Spencer had decided to refrain himself from asking what was wrong- as he didn't want to intrude. Spencer had always been a little awkward- and he knew from experience that asking could make it worse. So he left it alone for now and tried to make conversation about the novel he’d finished the night before. And y/n had actually perked up a bit when they got into an excited debate over two charachters- until his phone buzzed in his pocket again. At first Spencer didn't notice it, and continued rambling about his analysis of the aforementioned book, and the aforementioned characters they had been debating over - Spencer didn't notice until he heard an exasperated sigh leave y/n’s lips. He froze mid sentence, thinking he’d said something wrong- or that he’d rambled too much (as he often did) but then he noticed y/n's gaze was locked onto his phone- which was opened to text messages.
💕GF💕
-lemme guess your still talking to that ‘dr. reid’ AFTER we talked about it last night
-you need to stop hanging out with him- im better for you
Spencer didn't mean to read it, But he still did- and it hurt. His brows creased and he looked at y/n with a pained look. A lump formed in y/n's throat when he looked over and realized Spencer had read the text from gina- and the text he had already typed out to respond with. it read ‘ you know you shouldn’t make assumptions like that- we barely even talk after the argument we had about it last week.
“You know, you should’ve told me if your girlfriend didn't want us hanging out- i dont wanna ruin your relationship..”
Spencer's voice was a bit strained and you could hear the hurt in it. y/n rushed to apologize but Spencer didn't want to hear it.
“spencer i'm sorry- its just- just gina gets a little insecure sometimes and we argued about it last night- She just gets jealous a lot-”
Y/n's rambled half apology, half explanation did nothing to ward off the hurt Spencer was experiencing, or to slow down his thoughts, which were jumping to conclusions faster than Spencer could read. And before he spoke he had to swallow the lump that had formed in his throat and blink away the burning of tears behind his eyelids, threatening to spill.
“So gina never wanted us to hang out?! you should’ve told me y/n- i'm not gonna intrude on your relationship.”
While the pair argued, y/n could hear the previous night's argument with his girlfriend ringing the back of his mind. Gina yelling about him being a pathological cheater, and her having to put up with it. Gina often played the victim in any and all situations where she was at fault. Because deflecting was often much easier than dealing with her own issues.
Despite the fact that the pair was in a heated argument, the pair spoke in hushed tones as to not attract more attention than the already prying eyes of the quite crowded train car. Y/n was shocked- he could believe Spencer would say something like that- and in the heat of the moment he didn’t notice the tears lining Spencer's waterline- or in fact the tears that lined his own. After a moments silence, the train conveniently halted to a stop at spencers station- and wasted no time in hastily pulling his messenger bag that only a little while ago had been used to save a seat for y/n, over his shoulders with a huff and all but stomped out of the train car. And as the doors to the train car closed shut with a satisfy shhhk behind him, Spencer pulled the corner of his unbuttoned cardigan up to his face and wiped his slightly red eyes of their tears, feeling trickles of guilt now snaking their way into the pit of his stomach for what he said to the man he held so dear.

Character intro: Aviditas/ Avi
"The desires of the heart are powerful, they can lead to both ecstasy and ruin. Lucky for you, I’m an expert in both."
Tumblr media
His head rolled to the side as he was overcome with fatigue, but instead of finding an empty room, his eyes fell on a figure sat perched on the back of his sofa. He couldn't work out what it was exactly… some sort of bird…human…goat thing. Maybe he was hallucinating in his final moments. He frowned, trying to focus on the creature he thought he could see but his vision was blurry. "Aw, not gone yet, hm?" The strange figure spoke as it crossed its arms, dark feathered wings fluttering behind it. "That's okay, I can wait." That captivating voice certainly sounded human, but he couldn't understand why whoever was here had so many extra non-human parts. He squinted at it, lifting his head slowly for a better look. The things wings spread out behind it, framing a beautiful human looking figure perfectly. Wait, was this an angel? Had it come to take him to whatever came next? His lips parted and he tried to speak but it hurt his throat and all that came out was a harsh whisper. "What are you?" A smooth chuckle reached his ears and he found himself fixated on the creature before him. It tilted its head and said nothing as for a moment, it simply…watched him. "A Demon, of course." The other said with a smile, unsettlingly sharp teeth on full display. "I was here to finish you off, but it looks like you've done my job for me, I owe you one." A wink. "Come find me in Hell when you get settled in, hm? I'll show you a good time as a thank you~"
The need to know basics:
Age: Around 4786
Pronouns: Any pronouns, demons have no gender so Avi will simply conform to human perceptions of gender subject to his needs.
Sexuality: Yes. Personality: - Talkative - Flirty - Outgoing - Charismatic - Excitable Occupation: - Incubus/succubus. - Entertainer at an adult club on earth
Habits/Mannerisms: - Very lose morals (if he even knows what morals are) - Carries a small notebook with them which contains strange symbols and he writes in it periodically, especially when he hears something interesting. - Often blunt, but not in a harsh way just in the way that he sees things in a simplified way mostly. - Can get very excitable over new interesting things. - Draws people to him. - Able to talk his way out of almost anything.
Background: - Aviditas is a Latin name which means longing, desire, lust. It was given to him just after his creation. - Avi was never human, instead he is a hell born Incubus. He’s never been alive, or known an existence before that he has now. - Life in hell for them isn’t exactly easy. They are expected to do whatever their master says, without question, and he has done this for a long time. - Before a human changes the way he see's the world, he's never had many aspirations and always accepted the way things are as how they should be, but once his mind is opened, he's not sure he can ever go back to blind obediance...
Avi’s demonology comes from the representation of demons in both Christianity and Hebrew text.
Demons are essentially angels who failed to follow gods instructions, they’re not always inherently evil, more independent actors that aren’t so different from a human in terms of actual morality. However, some demons have their own agenda and can be tempted by primal desires, whilst others are directly influenced by the demons in charge in Hell and actively serve those demons' agendas.
There are demons who worship god, demons who are genuinely good-they’re just very quiet about it.
Avi speaks, reads and writes Enochian, (an occult constructed language which is spoken by angels and demons and other celestial entities, thought to be the first language of christ.) but since his job relies on communication he can also speak any human language as if it’s his own. It’s kind of like the Allspeak of the gods in Norse mythology. He does struggle to read though, often relying on text to speech to use modern technology, and he cannot write any human language. He’s never needed to learn how. Anyone not of angelic/demonic origin won’t be able to understand Enochian, it’s just not able to be perceived by the human mind. It will be possible to see the symbols though if Avi writes them out.
So he’s a demon, but what can Avi actually do?
Only certain kinds of demons can possess people. Avi cannot possess a person or an animal, but he can take their form and mimic them perfectly if he knows enough about them.
For Avi's power to fully work, he has to create a moment of weakness in the target. This is often easy for him to do through temptation. Once the person accepts him, invites him in, or falls for his charm then he is able to use his power on them.
Avis power will make even the lightest of touches feel intense to someone, everything with him will feel so much better than it ever has done with any other person. This is so he can create a stronger desire in someone and therefore have more Lust to feed on.
He can hypnotise his prey to make sure they don’t fully realise what he is. At any point he can blur the lines a little and make the person think he’s just a regular human who’s very good at what he’s doing. This is why he isn’t worried about showing his demonic features even in human form although generally if he’s out in public or doing his human job, he will keep his horns and wings hidden but he likes those things about himself so is reluctant to do so.
Avi can create obsession in a person, it’s a kind of defence mechanism and survival trait. He can make someone willing to protect him, fight for him, keep him safe from other threats to the point where they will willingly die for him. He can make them act impulsively, take risks they might not have done before and even change their personality entirely.
He can create obsession by visiting a person frequently, being intimate with them often and imprinting on them so they feel unable to live without him. He makes them feel like they desperately need him around, and this suits him fine when he needs to secure longer term food or has to hide from something. It will not be clear to the person under his spell what’s going on, but his spell can be broken by his own choice or by force if the right methods are used. (Avi will not be able to do this to a person who’s heart already belongs to another). Obsession can also occur accidentally if Avi is not careful to detach himself from a person.
Avi can sometimes become attached to a human. He tries not to do this, but if it does happen then Avi will become the irrational one. He’ll swear to protect the person, risk his own life to do so and may also stop feeding off others in favour of spending time with the person. - It’s more like an addiction for Avi though than actual feelings, he just follows his instinct which tells him he needs that person and can’t let them go.
Demons have mates, but Avi has not yet found one. He doubts he ever will find one, but this also means that he can accidentally imprint on humans he feeds on and bond with them, although the bonding part has to be consensual. It would be possible for a human to become Avi’s mate, but that would probably have its own issues due to the fact Avi is immortal and if a demon loses their mate, they cease to exist.
Avi can heal himself easily and can even heal others of simple things if he likes them enough. He can also take pain away with his touch and closeness. He has a very high pain tolerance too, it takes a lot to really hurt him.
His saliva acts as an aphrodisiac.
He can sense the true nature of a soul if he chooses to (although he'll likely only do this when it suits his purpose cause it takes effort)
------
Avi is one of the main characters of my fantasy romance between a demon and the human they accidentally saved from death.

AVA 4 RGBY GANG HUMAN DESIGNS!
(I'm sorry yellow, idk how to make yellow text)
I like to imagine pre-ava 4 rgby gang had the same silhouette and same hair cut but with their signature colour because they were stuck in that plain house isolated from rest of the world before TSC broke into their house lol
Tumblr media
I decided to draw default designs for them, like, I hc that when they respawn there after being deleted in the Fight Site they turn back to this, and rewatch ava again and then draw designs for them for each major story, like, avy, avm, ava5, avm seasons 1-2-3, ava6 and so on.
It would also be easier to come up with designs if the base is already there and you just add/revise certain things
TSC will also have a base design which will be just, basic stuff because he was nothing but a animation alan did and since alan lacked the artistic skills in ava 4, TSC would have the most basic/easiest design to to animate.
Another hc (since it's pretty much canon in fanon that yellow wears glasses) is that because they all had the same, everything, yellow didn't have glasses and didn't know he needed them, like, he squints to see better but to others it looks like he is very upset/angry.

The Song Twins & Keepblr Characterization
@arson-anarchy-death @camelspit Sorry for my lateness!
Avi Cogaytes Professor Spit Roisin's Reading Rumble #3 16 July 2023
The Song twins are fan-favorite characters in the online fandom for Keeper of the Lost Cities, a middle grade fantasy book series by Shannon Messenger, present in roughly 30% of fanfictions posted on Archive of Our Own and popular on blogging website Tumblr. However, their characters are often misinterpreted by the fandom due to a combination of racial stereotypes and sometimes a lack of nuance. Despite the popularity of certain portrayals of the Song twins, several popular ways of seeing them actually have little to not basis in canon.
In Keepblr, Tam is often seen as "emo" and someone who represses his true feelings. Multiple posts have described him as "bottling up" his emotions. However, Tam is explicitly angry from the very first time we see him on the page (not counting the shadow-whispering). All of the words used to describe him and his speech are harsh: "demanded," "spat," "defiant stare." Clearly, he isn't trying to repress or bottle up this anger, since it influences how he speaks and interacts with the others. He also visibly expresses his emotions several times during that conversation; he "blinked several times" and his "jaw fell open" when Mr. Forkle offered them a place to stay, in addition to blushing when Keefe brings up the Foster Fan Club (Neverseen). From very early on in his introduction, it becomes clear that he is not actually trying to hide his feelings, and in fact his reactions are often easy for Sophie to pick up on. When Keefe is revealed to be a traitor, Tam "wiped tears from his silvery eyes" (Neverseen); he is clearly unafraid to display emotions and not repressed the way the fandom seems to see him. This also relates to him being seen as "emo"; people described as emo tend to hide their emotions and act more stoic. He's been labeled as a "dramatic emo" in one post, and is called that often by other posts in general. In canon, however, he's sensitive and expressive, a good friend who comforts Keefe after he leaves by reminding him that he isn't worthless (Nightfall), and does not try to hide his emotions or reactions in his facial expressions. This is not the other extrapolation about Tam often taken from canon.
Another popular headcanon of Tam is that he is queer and/or transmasculine. There are numerous posts dedicated to this headcanon, one in particular saying that Tam "[screams] gay" and the poster "can't see [him] liking women." They say that Tam having a crush on Keefe is "basically canon at this point," when there is actually zero canonical basis for this; other than banter they have no romantic subtext at all. He is also not shown to have any bodily dysmorphia or discomfort with masculinity or femininity that might hint to a transgender identity. Neither of these headcanons have basis in the text, no matter how popular they are. Rather than canon, these headcanons are likely based in racial stereotypes; elaboration about how this opinion may have come about can be found here. Tam's twin also undergoes similar fandom treatment, where she is portrayed as soft and sweet (as Asian women often are) rather than dimensional the way she is in canon.
Linh is seen as "fluffy" and has no backbone. In fanon, she's described as: "a push over," so sweet she's "a toothache of diabetes," "feminine and small and controllable," "quiet and reserved" "compassionate," a "smile through the trauma character." But in canon, she's not afraid to make waves or be defiant; she destroys Ravagog in a flood (Neverseen) and considers herself grateful for the power that allowed her to do that (Lodestar), showing her autonomy. She's defiant to her parents, telling them "Respect has to be earned" (Lodestar) and turning her back on them. She argues with her brother instead of burying her feelings of discomfort with his behavior (Stellarlune). She's willing to share about her vulnerabilities as well, telling Sophie "I've often wondered if I have more power than I should" (Lodestar). All of this in canon gives her significantly more dimension than the fluffy, stoic character she's described as in fanon.
As stated before, these portrayals are likely due to typecasting rather than actual canon. Asian men are often seen as more feminine and therefore queer or trans; they are usually stereotyped as either very "soft" or repressed about their emotions. This stereotype may have contributed to how widespread this opinion became despite the way Tam clearly emotes in canon. Asian women are also viewed as sweet, sensitive, and uncomplicated in media, while bottling up their emotions for others' convenience; unlike that stereotype, Linh has autonomy and is willing to both express herself and be defiant. Despite this, however, portrayals like the ones cited above remain unfortunately common. Members of Keepblr, therefore, should examine their perceptions of the Song twins to ensure that their headcanons have a canonical, rather than stereotypical basis.

Y'all. I knew I was going to spend most of yesterday at the airport, but hoooo boy that was one sucky travel day!
I booked the "mystery car" with avis because it was the cheapest option, and it was an EV and I had no experience with those. I knew I'd need to charge it before taking it back, but since I didn't know how long it would take, I basically boogied out of the hotel and went straight to a charging station. I had to google where the port was, how to open it, and how to use the charger. But I got it taken care of. Ten bucks and one hour later, I was sufficiently charged to get to the rental car return with more than the requisite 70% charge remaining when I returned it.
So I wound up at the airport at 9:30am for a 3:50pm flight.
All right. Figured I'd grab breakfast, settle in somewhere and read or write for the rest of the morning. Over breakfast, I got a text that my flight was delayed two hours. Greeeeat. But there was a 1:55pm flight I could try to get on the standby list for. Okay! Cool! I've never done that, but how hard could it be?
The app didn't have the option to get on the standby list. It said to talk to an agent. But there wasn't a gate assigned to that flight yet. I ended up waiting at one gate until its flight had completely boarded and the gate agent was available, but then she got REAL huffy and said gate agents only work the flight listed at that gate, so I had to call the "agent on demand" line. That was totally fine, but her tone made me feel so small and by the time I was on the phone with an agent I was next to tears.
The agent on the phone got me on the standby list, except in the app it still only had information about my original flight and I didn't get a text or email, so... I was like, okay, 50% chance I'm actually on the standby list for this flight. But at least I have a seat on my original flight. And when the gate opens for this flight I'll ask them. The agent on the phone said, "I put you on the list, but I'm not going to check you in for this flight because it will remove you from your original flight, which we don't want, since there's no guarantee you'll get a spot on this one." All right, cool, fine. I'm stressed but it's fine.
And then a gate was assigned for that flight and I went there, and my name was not on the standby list when it showed on the screen. But then my app updated and only listed that flight, not my original flight. And it said "ready to check in" but I didn't check in because the agent on the phone had scared me about that. No agents arrived at the gate until literally 10 minutes before boarding was supposed to start. I was first in line to ask if I was on the flight, and he said no you're not on the standby list but you do still have a seat on your original flight. Which, fine, but my app is only showing the info for the standby flight and not my original flight.
I chanced it and checked in again on the app for the standby flight, and then everything was good. It put me on the standby list for real this time but still showed my confirmed flight for later. Woohoo!
But then minutes before boarding the standby flight got delayed until even later than my original flight.
Each flight got delayed another time, but the standby flight stayed later. I got a text saying congrats, you got a seat! And then I was like uh no I don't want the seat on the later flight, I want to stay on my original flight. I was not the only person at the gate making sure I could keep my original flight.
Anyway, it worked out. I got home at 1am instead of 9pm but we made it. I ate chick-fil-a twice in the airport. And I learned how to charge an electric car and how to get on the standby list for a flight. Working from home in pajamas today, though.

so, inspired by this poll, i wanted to time myself on how long it takes me to make a relatively simple gifset and this took me about 9 mins altogether. (which is sort of a remake of this.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(breakdown of the time and my methods under the cut.)
i use virtualdub to clip things instead of any screencap method and the time it took me to find the scene in the episode and clip it/save it as a video file (uncompressed avi) was altogether was about ~2mins.
Tumblr media
importing the clip to photoshop and resizing, sharpening, cropping, and repositioning took about ~2mins. (i use actions to basically do all of this, sans the repositioning.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
base coloring then adjusting the brightness, adding more color, and recoloring took about another ~3mins. (i also use actions for the base coloring ie the first selective color, curves, and levels layers.) (i also changed the framerate.)

and then doing some final touches and saving took about another ~2mins. and that's it!
also, just for another example, using these methods but with more complex coloring and three gifs + text, this took me about ~20 mins to make. in general, if i'm doing something fairly simplistic like this, i can usually make about ~10 gifs in an hour.
the more complicated stuff like this, though, is usually a minimum of... i'd say at least two hours but it's probably more than that. and with things like that it's quite possible i made it over the course of days. or weeks. or months.

Is the Punisher in Spider-Man 2? An Investigation
A persistent yet specious factoid that the Punisher (portayed by Thomas Jane, or his stunt double, from the 2004 movie) can be seen in the finale of Spider-Man 2 has circled around the internet for decades. But is this really the case? Spoilers – probably not!
If you want a quick visual overview, check the video -- a longer text writeup is under the fold!
youtube
Foreword: The claims
The claims center around a man seen in the movie's finale: clad in a black jacket, he turns to look at Mary Jane as she runs through the park before turning back and continuing to walk away:
Tumblr media
The man has no lines and is never clearly in focus during the shot, which centers on Dunst running in slo-mo.
The basic claim - that the Punisher appears here - does have several reasons it would be appealing or believable:
The Punisher first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, so a cameo in a Spider-movie would bring things "full circle"
The movie already features several cameos, including Stan Lee and Bruce Campbell
Pre-MCU crossovers are especially intriguing to a Marvel universe fan
A Wolverine cameo was considered for the first Spider-Man movie, setting a precedent for such crossovers
However, I quickly grew suspicious of this claim for several reasons:
Nobody can agree on the details: did Sony or Raimi want the cameo? Was it him or just a stunt double?
The only source offered is "the DVD commentary". There is never a specific quote given, and if it was plainly stated on the commentary surely the specific details would be easy to verify. This also makes for good cloud-cover, it sounds believable enough and who's going to dig out their old DVD and listen to two hours of chitchat to verify it?
The only places making this claim are clickbait listicle content-farms or user-generated pages like Twitter or Reddit. Neither of these are known for perfect sourcing!
This particular cameo doesn't make much sense to me. The Punisher of the comics is a vigilante gunman, why would a cameo feature him casually strolling through a park? 2004's The Punisher was set in Florida, if this is meant to be the same character why'd he move up the eastern seaboard?
Part 1: The Commentaries
Every time a source is offered to back up the cameo, there is simply a generic referral to "the DVD commentary". However, there are in fact three DVD commentaries for this movie!
I'll save you the suspense: I listened to all three and none of them mention any such thing. Here's the clips of the relevant scene in all three commentaries:
youtube
I have listened to all three commentaries in full, not just this scene. Relevant observations from all three:
Commentary 1: Director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire, and producers Avi Arad and Grant Curtis (Raimi and Maguire recorded together, as did Arad and Curtis - but the four are not together and the commentary combines elements of both discussions)
During the scene, Maguire speaks of how the ending of the movie reminds him of The Graduate. Raimi is mostly silently listening to Maguire. Neither mention the man in the park.
This is the only commentary to feature Sam Raimi - since most sources point to "Raimi on the DVD commentary", this is enough to disqualify them.
Avi Arad produced both Spider-Man 2 and The Punisher, even casting Jane himself, but makes no reference to the Punisher in his commentary.
Curtis points out that the priest at the wedding is played by producer Joe Caracciolo - if you're calling out one cameo, why not point out another one that happens less than a minute later? Several other cameos (noticeably Campbell) are also pointed out.
Stunt doubles are briefly discussed (for instance, mentioned that Rosemary Harris - Aunt May - wanted to do some of her own stunts) but never in the context of Thomas Jane's double.
The commentary mentions that Raimi considered cutting or even not filming the park scene altogether, making it unlikely that a special cross-production cameo would be set up in such a scene.
Commentary 2: Special effects supervisor John Dykstra and effects team (Steve Johnson, Eric Hayden, Anthony LaMolinara, Scott Stokdyk, Lydia Bottegoni)
This commentary is almost more like a special-effects podcast. Ock's arms don't appear until over a half-hour into the movie, but for that first half-hour the team is already going into deep detail on the production and design of the physical and digital arms. This means that - outside of action scenes - the commentary frequently is not directly discussing what is happening onscreen. Predictably, only general remarks about the approach to VFX design are given during the park scene and the black-clad man is not noted.
Commentary 3: Producer Laura Ziskin and screenwriter Alvin Sargent. This commentary is exclusive to the "2.1" extended cut
During the scene, Ziskin remarks on how Sargent wrote the scene of MJ running through the park but there was some debate on whether or not to include it. Neither mention anything about the man MJ runs past.
Many cameos of family and friends of crew, mainly featured extras in street scenes, are mentioned; Caracciolo as the priest is called out again as well. Nobody in the park is pointed out.
Several other Spider-Man characters not seen in the movie are remarked upon, including Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) being in several early drafts and Dr. Connors potentially becoming the Lizard in a sequel. But the Punisher is never mentioned.
So I can conclusively say that a cameo from the Punisher is not mentioned in any commentary for Spider-Man 2. I also searched to see if Raimi or Arad had ever mentioned such a thing in later articles or interviews, but found nothing. This is enough to call the story "untrue", for me. Nobody related to the production of Spider-Man 2 confirming or even alluding to this cameo doesn't give it a leg to stand on.
Still, in the interest of being thorough...
Part 2: Is it even plausible?
Let's give the story the benefit of the doubt. Could it even be possible?
2.1: Scheduling
Spider-Man 2 filmed in New York from April 12 through May 13 2003. In the shot in question, Mary Jane is running through City Hall Park so that scene must have been shot during this time.
Thomas Jane was officially cast as the Punisher on April 3, 2003 (though he had reportedly been sought for the role for a while beforehand). Production began in July and filming (in Tampa, FL) wrapped in October.
So there is a little overlap where the Spider-Man 2 crew would've known that Jane would be playing Frank Castle. Whether they could get him away from pre-production (Jane reportedly spent 6 months training with Navy SEALs for the role) or if the low-budgeted, tightly-scheduled production of The Punisher would be willing to loan out their headlining star to a rival production for a blurry, silent, semi-cameo is a little less plausible.
Actual filming did not overlap – and even if it did, Tampa and NYC are over 1,000 miles apart so it is impossible for Jane (or his double) to have popped over to the other set on a slow day.
2.2: The Stunt Double
The majority of places that claim the Punisher is in Spider-Man offer that it's just the stunt double, not Jane himself. Thomas Jane reportedly performed the majority of his own stunts (75% to 90%, depending who you ask) and the movie's credits do not list a double or stand-in for him.
According to IMDB, Tom McComas was Thomas Jane's uncredited stunt double on The Punisher (he also included The Punisher among his credits in a 2016 reel). Though he has appeared in other Marvel productions (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Runaways, WandaVision) he is not credited as appearing in Spider-Man 2.
If you want to familiarize yourself with how he looks to judge for yourself, McComas can be seen as a prison guard in the opening of Men in Black 3 (the slim man who tells Boris "You've got a visitor) or in the short film The Stunt Double.
Tumblr media
To my eyes, McComas is pretty obviously not the man in the scene. Even accounting for the blurriness of the movie shot and age differences (I had trouble finding contemporaneous images of McComas, many are at least ten years after Spider-Man 2), things like his jawline, the overall shape of his head, and his facial features are noticeably different.
2.3 Thomas Jane
But could it be Jane himself? Wizard² magazine's spring 2005 "Mega Movie Issue" provides a tantalizing lead. The issue's letter page is, obviously, movie-focused with questions aimed directly at comic-book-movie actors and producers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thomas Jane answers two questions, one straightforwardly about the status of Punisher 2, but we also get awfully close to a 'smoking gun' with his cheeky response to a question about Spider-Man 2:
Tumblr media
I have a question about "Spider-Man 2." I never noticed this in the theater, but does the Punisher (actor Tom Jane) make a cameo in the movie? I was watching the DVD and when Mary Jane is running through the park in her wedding gown, she passes a man in black who turns around to look at her, and I swear it is Tom Jane. This is the only person in the scene who takes special notice of her. If I am correct I hope my Marvel No-Prize is a good one because I have never won anything before.
(As an aside: despite the fan's assertion, the man in black is not "the only person in the scene who takes special notice of her." Although he is a little more in the foreground than other extras, several others can be seen staring at MJ or even stopping to do a double-take as she runs by.)
Wizard responded with:
"And you ain't gonna win anything now, either," says Jane of the Spidey cameo. "I can neither confirm nor deny that the skinny little, queeny-lookin'-er, wait, that is me in 'Spider-Man 2.' Natch." So Bryan, it looks like your keen eye has gained you the respect of Tom Jane and junior detectives everywhere. Still, we checked out the DVD ourselves, and sure enough—that guy in the right-hand corner looks an awful lot like the same guy who flung a pot of hot beans in Kevin Nash's face in "The Punisher." But, even though Jane admits to the cameo, some folks on our staff still aren't convinced! Check out this screen shot and you tell me.
Although Jane's response would be proof-positive for many, his flippant, noncommittal tone that doesn't even convince the editor makes me doubt that he's being serious. Contemporaneous posts on fan forums nigh-unanimously agree it's not Jane (e.g. SuperHeroHype (2006) and TFW (2007)) even with Wizard offered as evidence. Couple this with the fact that Jane has (as far as I am aware) never mentioned this in any other interview and the total lack of evidence from anyone involved in Spider-Man 2, it becomes even less believable.
But to be fair, in the spirit of Wizard's "you tell me", here is another comparison. These photos of Jane are all from The Punisher, which as you will recall means they were taken within months (if not weeks) of the Spider-Man 2 scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although the resemblance is closer to Jane than McComas, I don't think this is him either. The park guy has a squarer head, wider jaw, different nose, and different profile. He seems to be wearing a gray collared shirt rather than a black tee, and doesn't look to have the "trained with Navy SEALs for months" build that Jane displays as Frank Castle.
3. Postscript
My theory as to why this caught on is what's known in editing as "eye trace". The shot just before has MJ running from the left to the right of the screen, so viewers are already looking to the right of the frame. Then a man pops in from the right of the frame, looking at MJ but also towards the camera - so people are more likely to notice this one guy. You can see the effect of this accidental emphasis in the letter to Wizard - he claims that "this [man] is the only person in the scene who takes special notice of her" even though it's quite apparent that several other extras are staring at MJ (one even stopping mid-stride to turn around and gawk).
Since the movie was first available on VHS and DVD, the lower picture quality of an already blurry scene also added to the plausibility of this being Jane; on Blu-Ray and 4K the differences become more apparent.
So I say: Myth Busted. or at the very least: Implausible

The Israeli Cyber Stalker Industrial Complex
Just the Tip: Of The Berg
There’s a place where the lines between government, military, and private enterprise blur into a Kafkaesque nightmare of surveillance, manipulation, and outright skullduggery.
Israel, that tiny nation with the geopolitical footprint of Godzilla, has become a global powerhouse in the cyber-industrial complex. Its firms are the go-to vendors for dictators, oligarchs, and anyone else with a few million bucks to burn and a burning desire to spy on their enemies—or, more often, their own citizens. These companies are staffed by the alumni of Unit 8200, Israel’s elite signals intelligence unit, which is basically the Ivy League of cyber-espionage. These folks don’t just graduate; they spin off into the private sector like In Q Tel Silicon Valley bros, except instead of selling you ads for overpriced mattresses, they’re selling governments the tools to hack your phone, track your movements, and manipulate your online existence.
These firms operate in the gray zones of international law, where ethics are lacking, to say the least. They’ve been caught spying on journalists, harassing activists, and propping up some of the world’s most repressive regimes. And they do it all with all the intensified hand rubbing you'd expect, because hey, "business is business."
Today's shadowy Death Squads couldn't be happier.

Gabi Ashkenazi
Former IDF Chief of Staff, involved in shaping Israel’s cybersecurity policies.
Yossi Cohen
Former Director of Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency, which has been linked to cyber operations.
The Banality of Evil, Israeli Style
So, there you have it—a who’s who of the Israeli cyber-industrial complex, a sprawling network of firms and individuals who’ve turned surveillance and manipulation into a booming export industry. It’s a world where the ends always justify the means. These firms aren’t just selling their wares to tinpot dictators and rogue states. They’re cozied up to Western governments, corporations, and even law enforcement agencies. The tools they’ve developed—spyware, astroturfing platforms, predictive policing algorithms—are being used to erode privacy, stifle dissent, and consolidate power on a global scale. How much tax rate will you withstand before you actually get up from your keyboard and revolt? Israeli Security are shooting for 100% of your income and data, so you can be monetized on top of handing over your life savings.
For all their sophistication, these firms are ultimately peddling the same old tricks. It’s a Faustian bargain, and our "representatives" have all signed on the dotted line on our behalf.
So, the next time you hear about some shiny new cybersecurity tool or a slick online campaign promoting “democracy” or “stability,” take a closer look. Chances are, there’s an Israeli firm behind it.
Welcome to the future, folks. It’s not just Orwellian—it’s Kafkaesque, with a dash of Vonnegutian absurdity. And it’s watching you from your smartphone.
The people involved? Psychopaths. History will remember them as such.

Unlocking the Secrets to Uploading Your Video on YouTube Music Easily
YouTube Music has become an indispensable platform for music creators looking to expand their reach and connect with global audiences. However, to truly unlock its potential, it's important to understand the nuances of the upload process. While it may seem straightforward, certain strategies can help you stand out and get the most from your efforts. Let’s explore how you can upload your video on YouTube Music easily, with tips and insights that ensure your content thrives on the platform.
The Basics of YouTube Music Uploads
Before jumping into the specifics, it’s crucial to understand why YouTube Music is an ideal choice for creators. With millions of active users and robust algorithms designed to promote quality content, it offers immense potential for discovery. But the key to tapping into this opportunity lies in starting with the basics.
First, ensure your video meets the technical requirements for upload. YouTube supports various formats like MP4, AVI, and MOV, but it’s best to use MP4 for optimal compatibility. Ensure the resolution is at least 720p, as high-quality visuals significantly impact viewer engagement. Metadata is another foundational aspect that cannot be overlooked. Your title, description, and tags should reflect the core theme of your video while incorporating relevant keywords. This not only makes your video easier to find but also enhances its chances of being recommended to the right audience.
Another important element is copyright compliance. YouTube is stringent about protecting intellectual property rights, and any violations could result in strikes against your channel. To avoid this, use original content or ensure you have proper licenses for any third-party material used in your video.
Advanced Tips for Success
Once you’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to explore advanced strategies that can set your content apart. One of the most effective techniques is leveraging YouTube Music’s algorithms to your advantage. The platform prioritizes content that engages viewers for longer periods, so focus on creating videos that retain attention. For example, starting your video with a compelling hook or teaser can immediately capture interest and encourage viewers to watch until the end.
Additionally, pay close attention to your video thumbnail and title. These are the first things potential viewers see, and they play a pivotal role in determining whether someone clicks on your video. Create visually appealing thumbnails that include bold text and relevant imagery. Titles should be concise yet descriptive, clearly conveying what the viewer can expect from the video.
Engagement also plays a significant role in how your content is ranked and recommended. Encourage viewers to like, comment, and share your video, as these interactions signal to YouTube’s algorithm that your content is valuable. Consider ending your video with a call-to-action that prompts viewers to engage. For instance, ask them to share their favorite part of the video or suggest ideas for future uploads.
Monetizing Your Content
Uploading to YouTube Music isn’t just about gaining views—it’s also an opportunity to generate revenue. Once your channel meets the eligibility requirements, you can apply for the YouTube Partner Program and start monetizing your videos through ads. To maximize earnings, create content that appeals to a broad audience while staying true to your unique style.
Another avenue for monetization is sponsorships and collaborations. Brands often look for creators with a strong presence on platforms like YouTube Music to promote their products or services. Building a professional-looking channel with consistent uploads and high-quality content can attract such opportunities.
Additionally, you can offer exclusive content through memberships or Patreon, providing loyal fans with special perks in exchange for financial support. This not only generates income but also fosters a deeper connection with your audience.
Why It’s Important to Optimize Every Upload
While the steps to upload your video on YouTube Music easily may seem simple, optimizing each upload can make a world of difference. By taking the time to polish your content, enhance metadata, and implement advanced strategies, you increase the chances of your video being discovered and appreciated by a wider audience.
Think of each upload as an investment in your brand as a creator. Consistency is key—not only in the frequency of your uploads but also in maintaining high production standards. Over time, these efforts will yield significant results, whether it’s through increased views, higher engagement, or expanded monetization opportunities.
Final Thoughts on Uploading Successfully
The process of uploading your music video to YouTube Music may appear straightforward, but success lies in the details. By understanding the platform’s features, optimizing your content, and actively engaging with your audience, you can unlock the full potential of this incredible tool. Start with these tips today and watch your music career soar as your content reaches listeners across the globe.
Now that you know how to upload your video on YouTube Music easily, it’s time to take action. Don’t let hesitation hold you back—upload your masterpiece, connect with your audience, and start building your legacy.

New Fiction 2024 - September
"The Cold Embrace" by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1860)
To ghost, to suffer, to feel her hands.
"The Love Letter" by Jack Finney (1959)
We should be so lucky to have even a single letter to our name.
"Doggy-Dog World" by Hilary Leichter (2020)
We are what we want what we are what we want.
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite (2018)
Not the horror story I expected, but rather a darkly comedic look at Nigerian society, and really society at large and the expectations and privileges we are afforded. The narrator had a particular approach to life that will click with anyone who can't let that mote of dust rest in peace.
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata & trans. Ginny Tapley Takemori (2016)
We should all be so lucky as to find our own convenience store.
Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time by James Gurney (1992)
Dinosaurs and humans create a wondrous socialist utopia, accompanied by gorgeous art. Also some pleistocene mammals for good measure.
Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu (1872)
The Austrian countryside is a gothic teenage wasteland.
Dead Space by Kali Wallace (2021)
You solve A.I. crimes, what do you get? A prosthetic shoulder and deeper in debt.
Allegiance in Exile by David R. George III (2013)
Allegiance in Exile is a bit scattered in the plot but they have a really cool and subtle reveal near the end. It's also interesting to hang out with Kirk as the five-year mission comes to a close. Who are you, who am I, when the thing is done and the future awaits?
The Baby-sitter by R.L. Stine (1989)
Things move along predictably and then WHOA he really ratchets up the horror at the end, particularly for a book targeted at young teens. As the advertisement at the end of the book states, nobody scares 'em like R.L. Stine.
Be Afraid — Be Very Afraid! by R.L. Stine (1999)
Aw R.L., you had me going! It's a strange format at first, then it starts to get intriguing, but then the page count limit rears its head and the story wraps up way too blithely.
The Curse of the Creeping Coffin by R.L. Stine (1996)
Doesn't hit the same wacky highs as the previous entry, but the myriad ghost adventures won me over in the end.
"Under the Floorboards" by Emily Carroll (2012)
It's all fun and games until you and you can't work it out.
"Nightfall" by Bill DuBay & Bernie Wrightson (1977)
Who else would it be at this time of night?
"Monster War" by Joy Chin, Christopher Golden, Tom Sniegoski, Vitor Ishimura, Scott Kester, Trroy Peteri (2005)
Lots of cooks in this kitchen, ingredients in this stew. The monster mash is more interesting than the IP side of the dish.
"The wind carries your last cry away" by avi (2024)
And at long last only the hills will know.
A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll (2023)
It doesn't matter if you see what you think you saw. It's there, waiting for you.
Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito (2018)
Read it for Frankenstein, stay for the strange tales of Oshikiri and his poorly secured house.
Frankenstein 2000 dev. Peter Fothergill (1985)
Only vaguely related to Frankenstein but such a creative collection of levels that it doesn't matter, they're still great.
Castle Frankenstein dev. Epic Software (1984)
Oh, sweet forgiving parser and high contrast colors. With those basics out of the way, this is a text adventure game that can actually be enjoyed.
The Crow dir. Rupert Sanders (2024)
The look of a crow but the heart of a checklist.
1992 dir. Ariel Vromen (2024)
Couldn't decide between the backdrop or the foreground.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice dir. Tim Burton (2024)
Just hang in there for the finale.
The Front Room dir. Max Eggers & Sam Eggers (2024)
You're here for Kathryn Hunter.
Häxan dir. Benjamin Christensen (1922)
Now that's something. It presaged true crime television with live reenactments.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning dir. Danny Steinmann (1985)
I guess you have to try and get away.
The Critic dir. Anand Tucker (2024)
Delightfully devilish, Sir Ian.
Paranormal Activity dir. Oren Peli (2007)
Whoa that's a slow simmer with a spicy kick.
Speak No Evil dir. James Watkins (2024)
I suppose, but the ending is lacking and we all know it.
The Killer's Game dir. J. J. Perry (2024)
I wish I could be there but I fell overboard early on.
Vampyr dir. Carl Theodor Dreyer (1932)
Not quite the classic vampirism I crave.
November dir. Rainer Sarnet (2017)
Listen, gardening tool servants possessed by demons.
Crimson Peak dir. Guillermo del Toro (2015)
Looks pretty!
Whiplash dir. Damien Chazelle (2014)
JK Simmons is too good at being the worst.
The Substance dir. Coralie Fargeat (2024)
I too made noises of discomfort for the duration.
Never Let Go dir. Alexandre Aja (2024)
On the edge of something, but never at the heart of it.
The Others dir. Alejandro Amenábar (2001)
A slow and perhaps predictable build to the sublime.
The Purge dir. James DeMonaco (2013)
We're not supposed to want more.
Wolfs dir. Jon Watts (2024)
The classic fun of assassination friends.
Bagman dir. Colm McCarthy (2024)
Just creepy enough to getcha.
Azrael dir. E.L. Katz (2024)
Needs a survival horror video game stat.
The Wild Robot dir. Chris Sanders (2024)
Gorgeous scenery and heartfelt robot moments my beloved.
Megalopolis dir. Francis Ford Coppola (2024)
Should I go and take a classics class again?
Rosemary's Baby dir. Roman Polanski (1968)
I waited for the twist and its arrival was so subtle that it made me stop and think about where I was.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers dir. Philip Kaufman (1978)
We lost something when we stopped employing the hushed and overlapping dialogue of the 70s. This remake is chock full of that and running scenes with with very audible footsteps. But it's also creepy as heck and surprisingly fleshy.
