this one comes in from an anon! and a few people talking about this quote when i brought up the idea of making this blog/brought up the amount of unsourced things in this fandom

well, anon, i found the origin of the quote- at least this iteration of it. i came to a bit of a dead end that i'm not sure is a dead end, but i'll share what i found!

disclaimer: these all come from tumblr posts around 2014. this is old enough that i'm willing to link & name the users involved but if you know them or are them & would like any urls/names taken down, let me know! for now, it's staying up for the sake of answering the question "where it originated from"

however, this is where i ran into a road block. given that the op thinks it might be from an interview, i spent a good few hours listening to rare cynthia lennon interviews that haven't been transcribed on double speed. nothing there (although there were some pretty interesting quotes in them- including her calling them twins lol). and this exact wording isn't found in any of her interviews that Have been transcribed, as far as i can tell.

so there's a few options here. 1) this is completely made up & this answer was just a handwavey copout (not the answer i'd like to believe & not one i think is most likely honestly bc generally i don't think people have bad intentions) 2) they did indeed see it somewhere else on tumblr & that blog is the true origin of this quote for whatever reasons. i just can't find anything older or 3) it is in fact from a cynthia interview, just not worded exactly like this since it seems theforgottenmadcap wasn't directly copy-pasting and was just quoting a quote they saw around from memory.

Lemme talk about Frost's backstory real quick...

THERE IS NONE. But there is!!! It's so frustrating, bc I love Frost and I NEED to know more, but it never comes up!!!!! Anyway, the specifics have not yet been mentioned in canon, but I've found that there is a fan consensus about what happened to his parents. I've found that a couple different people have head cannoned that the whole village was pillaged and destroyed at some point after Frost was taken the Order and after he leaves, he goes back home only to find that it's been wiped out.

Now, I don't know the validity of this---I used to think this was canon information bc it was so widespread lol---but given the fact that he raises his hand in that moment...

The true fate of his parents are unknown and I don't know if Derek has mentioned anything outside of the campaign bc I don't have patreon, but I'm willingly to bet it was something along those lines. And Frost knows because he did try to go home at one point. Why wouldn't he? He was taken away so young and when he's like "Fuck this, I'm leaving" (was it ever stated exactly why he left? All I heard was that he was on a "pilgrimage," which sounds like an excuse to leave to me lol) why wouldn't he go back home?

So, he's faced with the fact that his parents are dead and he wasn't seen them in over a decade and will never get to see them again. Imagine being 8 years old and being taken away from your family and having no clue that they were killed at some point while you were away. He can't get that time back. He will never truly know his parents (does he remember their faces? Their names? Does he remember his mother's voice? Or the stories they told him? I doubt it.)

Personally, to his "More than you think" statement, I think his parents did miss him. Of course, Frost would not know that bc he never saw them again. Perhaps he thinks they didn't. Maybe he began to feel like they abandoned him by allowing the Order to take him. What kind of parents allows total strangers to take their child? (Ones who think it would be better for him. Who know their child is different and want him to have the best possible life. Frost was a strange kid, didn't get along with his peers, maybe this Psionic Order will be good for him. They can help him in a way that we can't. They're like him. They'll know what to do.) Maybe Frost resented them a bit for it. He doesn't hear from them at all. Nothing for so so many years. That statement may have been borne out of that sadness (bc he can't truly resent them. In his adult life, he thinks maybe they thought they were doing the right thing. His resentment turns to sorrow).

Perhaps that's where his fear of being abandoned comes from. Believing his parents didn't love him and just gave him away (was he too difficult? Too different? What did I do wrong? Did they not love me?). That carries into his adult life through having the same feelings with his friends. He needs to uphold a certain standard so they don't abandon him like his parents did.

To round it back to the ask, he definitely goes into a bit of a dark place for a while there. I mean, his very good friends of 10+ years just beat him ruthlessly with rocks and didn't seem to care about it AND dead/neglectful parents are on his mind bc of the children. You can tell he's very somber in both 57 and 58 and it's 100% a result of these things.

spoilers for all of current limbus company, including Murder on the warp Express, the Don Quixote book (( kinda )), and a musical (( i'll get there ))

please humor this deranged rant about a character i havent read the source book of

so basically ive had a theory since Don was even teased that she's less so based on book Don Quixote and moreso based on the Man of La Mancha musical which is. an insane thing to suggest but hear me out here (( ive since changed how i word my stance to the much more mild "it will most likely delve into the themes of both works and reference both" because suggesting they would discount the book entirely is TRUE insanity ))

her quote (( from teaser tweets that i cannot find anymore? they seem like they were deleted which sucks )) was "To reach the unreachable star!" or something which is notably not a quote from the original book ((as far as im aware at least?)), and suggests. a lot i think!

One of the most notable differences between Man of La Mancha and the original Don Quixote is their tone and attitude towards Quixote. In the original text, he's shown to be a fool who is ignorant to the vastly more interesting world around him, and prefers to instead sink deeper into his delusions of reality equating to chivalric literature. This makes sense as Don Quixote was written as a parody and mockery of the genre

La Mancha is, notably, much more forgiving on Quixote's character, showing that while still a fool, and his insanity often detrimental to those around him, he is still a good person at heart and that he truly wishes to pursue this justice he posits

I usually say it as "Don Quixote is about how reality is beautiful, and La Mancha is about how sometimes one should strive to make reality a little more fantastical" although i dont know if that. is the most accurate comparison. both Don Quixote and La Mancha have a lot of themes and stuff going on

Tanner in an interview getting asked about a rumor his gf is pregnant and him deflecting the question bc it's true but they aren't ready yet to tell

“I already know what your going to ask.” Tanner laughed as he sat up him his chair. They had been in this interview for almost a whole hour now. He was itching to just get up and leave.

“So, are the rumors true that you and your long-time girlfriend, Reader, might be expecting?” the reporter asked. They guys face was lit up as he asked the question.

Tanner gave a small shrug while saying “Well I believe a while ago both me and Reader actually gave a statement about kids.” the reporter seemed to sit on edge as he went on “We both would love to possibly have them one day. The both of us have discussed it quite a lot. Before and after we started our relationship.” his tone was filled with happiness. It was true that the couple talked about kids a lot in their time together. Both of them wanting to raise a family together.

The reporter raised a brow “So you confirm that you and Reader are pregnant now?” the reporter seemed on edge. The way he seemed to almost sit on the very edge of his seat was telling.

The recent surge of rumors that the young star couple where pregnant was flying around every social media platform. It took off the minute Reader was spotted at a baby store in LA. She was photographed by a passerby coming out of the shop with a large bag of unidentified items. The photos also captured her placing the the bag in her car before driving off. She was dressed in a very plain outfit of just a long baggy shirt and yoga pants.

Most fans were separating the possible pregnancy after the couple had taken a week-long vacation not long after the pictures were taken. Taking themselves out of the limelight for a brief moment and stepping away from the public.

Super fans were pulling up cancelation sheets of upcoming movies that Reader had supposedly been cast for but now her name was no longer on. New movie releases were scrubbing her name from feature boards. Already editing her name off of movies that were set to start filing in the following months.

It didn't hell the rumors that Reader had yet to make a public appearance after those pictures were leaked online.

“All I can really say is that we have talked about it before. The rumors are just that, rumors going around because my girlfriend went to a kid's store. I mean we have a lot of friends and family a lot of them have kids. She might have just been picking up a gift for one of them. You know how Reader loves giving gifts.” he laughed.

“So you can't say if it's true or not?” the reporter was starting to get more pissy with Tanner. His voice growing higher as he tried to dig more at the situation. Clearly trying to get a big scoop from this low-level interview.

Tanner was able to see right through his little game.

The interview was thankful cut short when Tanner's phone rang and the timer on their meeting went off seconds later. The guy who had been interviewing him looked totally defeated. With Tanner keeping tightlipped on the topic he didn't get much out of him. There would be no big scoop for his company.

Walking off he picked up the call, smiling he answered “Hey babe how are you doing? Better than earlier I hope?” a small hum was heard on the other side of the phone.

Reader rolled around on their bed for a moment before turning over. She shoved a pillow under her head as she went back to her phone. She sighed “I'm doing a little better…” she paused for a moment and looked down at herself. She knew she wasn't showing just yet, maybe if you looked hard enough you could see the smallest bump forming under the chubbiness of her belly. Running a hand over her belly she smiled “My stomach still feels all funky but that's to be expected I guess.” she giggled a little.

Tanner gabe a small smile as he walked.

“Did they pester you about those stupid pictures?”

“A little but it was nothing I couldn't handle so don't worry about it too much.”

Reader chewed in her lip a little, the trip to the baby store was a split second decision on her part.

“I know I shouldn't have gone out like that. I should have just ordered something online and had it delivered.”

“Babe no, you wanted to go out and do something special to tell me about-” he looked around for a second. Making sure there was no one around to overhear their conversation. “The baby and I wouldn't change that for anything. It was super sweet and such a surprise, I loved it.” a small laugh was heard on the other end making him grin.

“How about I bring you some ginger ale to try and help with the morning sickness?” Tanner said as he finally reached his car in the parking lot. As he unlocked it he heard a small sigh from Reader.

“I would love that actually oh and if you could pick up a big pretzel? The big soft ones?” he could practically hear the longing in her voice.

“I'll pick up two just in case, I'll see you in a little it. Love you.”

Everyone's hypocrisy is pissing me the hell off, even if I can understand where they're coming from. Basira shames and berates Jon while excusing Daisy's behaviour in the same breath, despite both of them being the same! Melanie says it's Jon's fault that she's trapped in the Institute, despite the fact she came here on her own accord and Jon wasn't even present when she accepted the offer from Elias! Ughh it's so irritating!!

I get it, people are not perfect and everyone in this show makes mistakes. Hell, nearly everything was caused by Jon acting irrationally cause he was so paranoid. But in the end, the podcast paints those hypocritical characters as good and rational!! They never had to suffer the consequences of their actions like Jon had to!! They just got to live semi-happily, no burdens for them to carry except some minor inconveniences maybe!

Also from what I've gathered the fandom doesn't even allow people to criticise those characters. The survivors. You're not allowed to whisper a word of criticism in their direction. Jon always gets shamed (even playfully) for being rude in the early seasons. People looove to jokingly insult him "oh he's such an incompetent idiot!! Haha paranoid dumbass! He's so mean ughh so annoying >:(" but when hes being hit from all directions by the only people left in his life no one even bats an eye, because then they're such queens of boundaries of course! Cutting off the awful monster to preserve their own wellbeing! Rational and cruel at the same time.

I had to listen to Jon being treated like shit for an entire season just for s5 to offer him half-baked, retracted apologies that didn't actually mean anything. None of this conflict was ever resolved. He didn't become friends with all of them by the end. They didn't accept him as an avatar. Not even his boyfriend did.

Only Jon ever suffers because of his own actions, and on top of that he's treated like everyone's punching bag! No one bothered to even try sympathizing with him. He was so utterly alone.

I feel like the last thing you want to do is test the patience of the woman who owns an umbrella-shotgun. Also bonus Furina and Lynette bc I want to write them!

Navia admires and respects anyone who goes above and beyond what they're expected to do for work.

But when it starts affecting their health? That's where she draws a line.

Working hard is one thing, but working yourself to death is a no go!

And when she learns that her S/O is forgoing their sleep in order to get some of their paperwork done-

Navia almost burst their door down, though it was not intentional.

Though, there was a bit of truth in that statement.

Furina dramatically swings the door wide open, scaring the absolute daylights out of her S/O.

The pen in their hand almost flew off as she walked up to them.

S/O raised an eyebrow at her theatrics. She normally wasn't this dramatic unless she was up to something.

Her stomach suddenly growled, catching the both of them off guard. S/O immediately turned to Furina.

Honestly, Furina debated whether or not to tell S/O directly to take a break.

But this option was a lot more fun.

Besides being a magic assistant to Lyney, her other tasks required quite the concentration.

So on her days off, she made it a non-negotiable rule to allow herself to rest.

She did not like having to exert more energy than what was required for the given task.

And when Lynette saw S/O expending a bit more than necessary for their job, she at first didn't say anything.

Until Lynette saw that their efforts were causing them to be exhausted.

Direct intervention is necessary.

(Lynette) "S/O, come here a second."

S/O's head perked up at her request and quickly put down their work.

(S/O) "What's up, Lynette?"

Lynette motioned for them to sit next to her, which they did so without much hesitation.

Lynette then offered them a cup of tea, pouring S/O a small amount as she did the same for herself.

(Lynette) "You've been at that for a while. I think it's time you relaxed."

(S/O) "A-Ah, I suppose it has been a couple of hours."

(Lynette) "Six hours-."

(S/O) "Six hours?!"

S/O almost dropped their mug before stabilizing themselves.

Lynette's ears drooped as her tail stopped swishing idly, looking sad all of a sudden.

(Lynette) "You...haven't been paying attention to me lately."

S/O looked panicked and was about to begin apologizing before her tail gently brushed against their face, catching them off guard.

Lynette's face suddenly shifted again, though this time her lips subtly formed a smirk as her ears went back to normal.

(Lynette) "Just kidding. I just wanted to see your reaction."

S/O pouted at their teasing, which almost got her to giggle. Instead, she simply sat closer to them, enjoying her tea and thankfully not burning her sensitive tongue.

Reverse Engineering the OIAR Tagging System

I'm not the first to theorise that the tagging system is important - this post is inspired by the person who noticed that Needles and Bonzo share both a CAT and an R tag.

This is an incomplete attempt to decode the entire system for theorising purposes. Unfortunately, I was not able to figure it out as thoroughly as I hoped but I'm sharing it here in hope others can make observations. Here is the table:

So, my observations thus far:

CAT (probably short for categories)

There are four categories so far- 1, 2, 3 and 23.

Needles, both Bonzo statements and the very first statement are the only CAT 1s so far.

Needles and Bonzo are likely to be major recurring characters, so this could suggest the creature in the first statement (which to me gives distortion vibes) may also be.

Alternatively, CAT could suggest danger. Needles and Bonzo are serial killers, while the CAT 3 statements tend to refer to very old or contained objects, so perhaps these are less dangerous? The only gap in this theory is InkSoul being CAT 3, which makes little sense given their livestreaming. Unless... could InkSoul be dead?

Generally, but not absolutely, newer statements tend to be closer to CAT 1, and older statements closer to CAT 3. Bonzo and Needles both referred to statements taken days before the episode dropped. Again, this isn't an absolute rule and the first statement is again the odd one out.

What I absolutely cannot figure out is CAT 23. I thought it was a typo until I encountered it again for Ep 11. It clearly means something special. Unlike for the R system, I don't think it means between categories 2 and 3, because the statements we get are both quite important. We'll probably have to wait for more episodes to figure this one out.

R (probably short for rank)

This is the one I'm more sure about. I believe it indicates 'grades' of some measure, like school grades. A is best, B is after that, and so on.

I think AB and BC are borderline grades.

Ep 3 and 4 (plant boy and violin man) do not have an R tag. My working theory is that this indicates the statements are below a grade C.

So what does R actually grade? Again, it could be importance (assuming that isn't what CAT means), or usefulness to the institute, but then why is our known external Mr Bonzo only a B?

So far we have no rank As and only one rank AB - the Red Canary statement.

If there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that the first rank A statement is going to be very big indeed.

Conclusion

I believe category and rank indicates any two out of the following: importance, danger, level of OIAR control, level of usefulness to OIAR, certainty of being true, amount of evidence. Ultimately, we need more statements to be sure.

For whatever two measures these systems represent, I am fairly certain that a category closer to one and a rank closer to A represents a better grade on that measure, with the exception of CAT 23 which I think is its own thing. The ultimate purpose of this post is to encourage people to pay attention to these tags more as I am certain they contain clues, and if anyone smarter than me can spot them as more episodes come out, then great.

PS: As I was just about to post this I had a sudden idea as to what CAT 23 *might* be. It could be dimensional cracks. This is clearly what's going on in the magnus institute (with the dice statement being exempt because it was taken before the institute burnt down) and it's possible the graveyard in Ep 11 also serves this function. This is pure speculation however.

transmisogny is a problem in trans spaces & non-transfems (specifically transmascs in this context) are often complicit (this is a true statement & a real issue that exists)

Transmascs are functionally the cis men of trans spaces & are constantly shit-talking transfems at every chance, and this is a sign of privilege & systemic power over transfems

& to that last point, say it with me folks:

it's really not all that hard to find transmascs who have been driven out of both online and in person trans communities because of other trans people being actively hostile towards them due to their transmasculinity. this doesn't mean transmascs are The Most Oppressed, but it is Also a real issue that exists. There are communities where transmascs dominate and, in THOSE spaces, on an internal level, have some power to reinforce transmisogyny and hurt transfems. There are communities where transfems dominate and the same thing happens. There are communities where nonbinary people of all kinds are repressed and harassed by other trans people. Nome of this equates to actual systemic power in society at large & it certainly doesn't mean that any trans group benefits from the oppression of others in a meaningful way.

Ah that post about Jonathan reminded me of the time that, in response to a post I made talking about Joyce's role in Jonathan's parentification, someone tried to excuse it by being like "they're poor!"

And like I get it to some extent. Poverty is likely a very big part of what leads Joyce to the actions she takes wrt this subject. So many things are easier when you are not poor. Including mental health care for yourself and childcare for the kids.

But she still played a part in Jonathan's parentification. And that is still abuse.

If a parent can't feed their child, the reason may very well be poverty. But the end result is still that the child isn't fed, and not feeding a child is abuse regardless of the why.

It's the same with parentification.

I think part of the problem with this subject is that some people are just not ready to contend with the idea that a person or character can be good and loving and care, and still abuse someone they love and care about. That sometimes a person/character can make the best decisions and take the best actions that they are capable of in the moment, and it's still not good enough. That sometimes the best they can manage is still bad.

I do not doubt that Joyce loves Jonathan. We see that, at least a bit in season 1 (and I'll blame the show's shitty writing/directing on why that isn't carried through consistently with the rest of the show).

I do not doubt that Jonathan volunteers for some of the stuff he does. He clearly loves his mom and brother. We see that again and again. He knows the family is struggling. He takes responsibilities sometimes that are not asked of him because he wants to help the people he loves. We see examples of this in the show.

But he still should not have to. He shouldn't be picking up any extra hours he can get bc he is worried about the family's bills. He shouldn't be the one arranging his younger brother's funeral.

These are things that he volunteers for, no one tells him he has to do them. In fact arguably Joyce tells him not to. But they are still the, more indirect, results of him having responsibilities put on him that he should have never had to bear.

In a flashback, we see Jonathan comforting and distracting Will while their parents are arguing in another room. Though we don't see the lead up to this, it seems unlikely that this was something asked of him and more likely this is something that Jonathan volunteered for. Because he cares about Will. He is still acting in the role of a parent here, and being responsible for things he should not be responsible for.

We see time and time again with this show that the combination of the family circumstances (external pressures), and Jonathan's love for his family (internal pressures), continue to put him in situations where he feels he has no choice but to step up and be responsible for things he shouldn't have to be. Because he doesn't have the support needed to be able to trust that an adult will do what needs to be done if he doesn't.

And to attempt to wrap up the subject of Joyce...

Abusers are not all irredeemably and unforgivably evil. A person who was abused recognizing that their abuser didn't intend to hurt them and is just a person with flaws and/or unfortunate circumstances doesn't make them wrong or weak or still under their abuser's control and a character doing those things is not necessarily bad writing.

Joyce intentionally or not put parental responsibilities on to Jonathan and created and maintained an environment where he felt like he had to step up to responsibilities that never should have been his bc he couldn't trust the adults in his life to do what needed to be done.

Joyce loves Jonathan and tried her best given her capabilities and the circumstances. Joyce's best was not good enough and she abused Jonathan.

These statements can both be true.

Hey, so. I wanted to ask about the interpretation of pre-Dungeon Lord Mithrun as being very catty and Regina George-like. Personally, and I've got no problems with it, I'm just really curious where it comes from, but I don't get that read. He was catty and petty and all sorts of unpleasant, but Misril essentially confirms that he kept it all inside because he seemed so perfect and his Dungeon was some great surprise to her. Built on lies and jealousy and inferiority but she had no idea whatsoever. He was festering in silence, I think, and all that ugliness was tucked inside. He was scrambling. Probably imagining himself as alone and unique in his ugliness and failing to speak truthfully about his feelings because he must've been taught that ugly things - like affairs and disabled brothers? - are to be hidden. You're something else before you're a person, so you must be nice and kind and good and emblematic of that. And it isn't as if I was raised in any position of power, but royal houses can be sort of emblematic of that kind of repression of personality, where being small and quiet and smooth and obedient is "good personhood". He was revealed as a mean drunk, but that's about it. Truly, I think catty Mithrun is comfortable Mithrun, so I like to imagine that post-Dungeon Mithrun is the catty one. I think it's funny to imagine our relationship, as it were, and imagine people watching with him and judging people for the fun of it. It's not personal or to feel better or anything. It's just because, and he says some truly out of pocket shit, and I'm there, a little reprimanding, like, "Oh my God! You can't just say that..." and I'm looking at him. And he's looking at me without saying anything. An eyebrow raised. My expression cracks. I look away and snort. "God," I say again. "Oh my God. Yeah. Okay. Fine." Laughingly, "Uh... That's the tackiest, brightest jacket I've ever seen in my life. It is disgustingly offensive. My eyes are practically burning. Is that it?" And he smiles a little. Barely there. And I groan and lightly smack his shoulder. "Is that what you wanted to hear?" He shrugs, "Was it honest?" "Yeah. I mean, I'm exaggerating for the fun of it all, but..." I shudder. "God, it's horrible," and then maybe I get into it, like the minutiae of opinions. Being very opinionated. "And it's worse because not even badly shaped! It'd be fine if it was, like, a simple black coat or something. The texture looks okay, but it has the worst patterning, the worst shapes and colors and—!" And he's laughing out loud. Holding his hands on his stomach, because I've gone full into gesturing and I'm getting so heated about a stupid coat that doesn't even matter, but it's fun! It's amazing. We're having a great time, and I'm laughing, too, because it's silly and it doesn't matter and I'm happy like this. We both are. He frowns a little, and goes, "Okay, what about that shirt?" and making his own statements, like "Ugh. That gold looks like vomit", and we play off eachother, like "Ough. Yeah, and that red with that shade is so bright." I raise my eyebrows. "Evocative." Mithrun hums. "Blood and vomit," he nods. "Ew." We look at eachother and shake our heads sort of sagely. And then I crack first. I almost always break first.

Ye when we joke about pre-dungeon Mithrun being catty, it’s more like he’s catty on the inside. He’s canonly critical and judgmental and angry in his own mind, but I think he also genuinely loves his friends. He just can’t help but be a negative nelly in his head bc insecurity and whatnot. I think if pre-dungeon Mithrun was especially close to someone, close enough to let his true nature show(which would be incredibly rare) then he’d express those thoughts outwardly. But in secret. Nobody realizes he’s catty, but he is. Because he’s passive aggressive and fake lol

I do think post-dungeon Mithrun is a jerk too, but he has no reservations about expressing it anymore because he has no desire to keep up appearances. He doesn’t dislike his old self because his old self was mean, he dislikes his old self because he just automatically dislikes himself in any form. And even then I think that’s subconscious. When he corrects Kabru and basically says ‘no I wasn’t perfect at all’ he’s just stating a fact. He has very little feeling on the matter other than resentment towards his own actions and emotions that led him to the demon and subsequent trauma.

I think Misiril prob taught him that being relatively polite gets him places, it keeps everybody around him from wanting to leave. And if they left then he wouldn’t have the necessary manpower to defeat the demon. So if he makes the decision to keep certain thoughts to himself, it’s either because it’s easiest/out of habit/to prevent an obstacle in his quest. I mean obviously he still says outlandish crap (“Inferior species.” “CAPTAIN THATS RACIST!”) but I think that’s because he knows it wont really matter in the long run in those cases, so he just says whatever’s on his mind without a care of how it sounds.

But yeah post-canon Mithrun would probably be way more relaxed. If he’s with someone he’s close to, he’d point out an ugly shirt. I wouldn’t call him catty, because there’s no passive aggressive-ness there. He’s just blunt. His old self would have an absolute heart attack because iTS NOT PROPER STOP IT YOURE GOING TO MAKE PEOPLE HATE YOU!!!

The juxtaposition between his past and present is so interesting. They’re like two different people, so different but still similar in some ways. Hmm

this could be me like totally over analysing things as per usual but it’s so interesting in the scene with just rafe topper and ruthie where rafe talks down his relationship with sofia, where i feel like you can tell he’s almost begrudgingly hesitant before he says “just because we hook up doesn’t mean she’s my girlfriend” and the way he processes it too before uttering those words where the way I interpreted it was as if he was preparing himself to flick the switch and convert facades to the persona ruthie and topper want him to be, exuding a careless laid back personality who looks down on pogues.

I feel like the mannerisms and tone of that scene was purposely acted by drew to implicate that he didn’t really mean what he said and stated it for the sake of saving face which is his own problem to fix, but idk what it is about it though about his reluctance to say that she’s his girlfriend publicly in front of Hollis or Ruthie and Topper I wanted to know what your opinion on it is because he clearly cares about her deeply, there’s so much proof of sofia being his emotional and spiritual confidant, almost as if she’s his moral compass, there’s a reliance there from both sides and he does bring her to places but I guess not enough to tell everyone their status because of her socioeconomic status? Is it just down to him still not getting over the whole pogue v kook thing? or is that Sofia is so sacred to him and he doesn’t want share that? I mean I know he eventually says it in episode 6 (I replayed that part an unhealthy amount of times🙂‍↕️) and the writers are lazy as hell so they probably just forgot about it so it probably isn’t even that deep but I’m just bored out of mind bc this show isn’t going to come back for at least a year🙃

I love your interpretation!! And there’s no such thing as an over analysis!! I totally agree. I love your ideas of it being like a switch he turns on, donning the facade of a kook who hates pogues, when in reality I don’t think he cares. Rafe is opportunistic, he hates pogues only when it’s in his interest (like in s1 where he would bully them for fun, blame them for his mistakes but was fine with Barry when no one else was around). It’s the same with Sofia– he doesn’t care that she’s a pogue, he only cares if she’s good to him (and there’s a whole other conversation to be had why he chose Sofia of all people in the first place– the country club bartender, but I’ll talk about that another day😭)

I’ve talked about this in other post, but I think when rafe and Sofia are alone, the markers of “kook” and “pogue” dissipate– they’ve carved out their own little bubble where Rafe isn’t a murderer, a failure, a mess and Sofia isn’t a poor bartender, an older sister responsible for her family.

When they leave that bubble, that’s when those markers return.

“I mean your girlfriend right?”

“Sofia? What about her?”

He acknowledges she’s his girlfriend, he views her as his girlfriend. But when Ruthie is disdainful, that’s when he changes his tune.

“Just cause we hookup doesn’t mean she’s my girlfriend”

He narrows his eyes, looking away from Ruthie, inhaling deeply, about to take a sip– he knows he’s being deceptive, he knows what he’s saying isn’t true.

Sofias reaction is interesting here because she doesn’t seem affronted– she seems disappointed and hurt. It’s like she knows he won’t claim her in front of his friends, like he didn’t claim her in front of Hollis.

“Wait has she moved in yet?”

Sofia perks up, interested. The territory of the future is something she’s unexplored with Rafe. She loves him, she wants to be with him, she wants a future with him. And she can finally find out if he wants the same. Because rafe exclusively lives in the present when he’s with her– that little bubble they created only existing in the now.

“I’m not living with a pogue– I have standards”

And that’s when she looks hurt and angry– her offence at that statement clear. Rafe has introduced the marker of “pogue” into their relationship. She thought he didn’t care, she thought he was different. (“You’re different, I like that”) but he’s not, she finally realises. Any prospect of a future with him crumbles, as she realises she will never live up to “the standards” he has.

Whereas when Rafe says this, he closes his eyes, looking almost drunk (which he probably is). This state of stupor indicates the fictitious nature of his words. The staging of the scene is interesting too– his back his to her so she can’t see his face.

Perhaps if she could, she’d see the facade, but the implication to sofia is he’s turned his back on her– in every sense of the phrase. And him being before Ruthie and Topper, on the other side of the table is like he is performing for them, staging his kook persona. I don’t know why he is clinging to that though, it’s clear she’s not just a hookup, (they’ve been together for nearly two years and they’re attached at the hip) so why is he still attempting to perform? Maybe he doesn’t want their relationship to be scrutinised– if he admits to commitment, then there’s something which exists that he could break. And he doesn’t want what he was with Sofia to break. He just wants to exist in their bubble, away from markers like “pogue” and “kook” and “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” which is why I think he proposed.

He wants to cement it– Rafe’s an all or nothing type of guy, so marriage before admitting she’s your girlfriend is so him. And there’s Sofia, struggling to keep up with his many faces.

under the cut i want to talk a little bit, maybe overshare as well. ill try to keep it short (rereading nat here. i didnt). its a sad post, might make some of you angry but not for the reasons you think

i was staying away on purpose, but a few people asked about me so i wanted to let you know that hey, im lurking, im waiting to see what happens. maybe some things will change in the future but im putting it out here so its all in one place

i think i want to start with saying thank you again for sticking around, supporting my art and my thoughts and having discussions with me. i really opened up about myself and what I created here. im very anxious person and it influences my life on every level, so being heard, seeing people laughing at my jokes, loving my art has been so so important to me

about the situation, the gogcident if you will, i logged out as soon as i saw things going down and been getting updates though different source. and while situation is still on going and i dont know where it will go, as how it ends, theres two or three things im firm on that will always be true for me:

i really hate how believe all victims turns into believe everyone who speaks first, no matter what they say, no matter context, no matter proof. the first statement made in this case was untrue in a lot of important details and while i dont think caitis feeling are wrong or invalid i think her first statement made this situation into something it isnt. i think every victim should be heard but attacking everyone who was accused right away is not a solution

i do believe that everyone who was accused of anything has every right to defend themselves. the way its constantly taken away from dteam is not lost on me and its insane and upsetting

you can be traumatized by the events that werent in its core meant to be traumatizing. sometimes people act shitty and leave scars on you and sometimes you can do the same to other people

edited note bc i want this to be here as well: guilty until proven innocent is a crazy mindset and i cannot imagine situation that i would allow it. some idiots dont even realise how dangerous rhetoric that is. including accusers not being obligated to provide any proof of their claims

okay so what now. i havent decided yet. georges and dreams moves so far confirmed for me that no matter what happened it wasnt with malicious intentions. ill wait to see how this plays out and then ill decide about my next steps. one think i did for sure is i uninstalled twt from my phone (and that already bit my ass the moment dream started his space…) that part of fandom, both people who like (liked?) and hate dream is so damn self-destructive, toxic, manipulative and performative it wasnt worth it anymore. for here, i dont know yet. i dont hate dteam, i think this is very unfortunate and sad and complicated situation that left people very deeply hurt. and i wish it wasnt this way and im pretty sure dteam also wish that. but they cant change it and i cant change it even more

now this is something i dont really know how to tell you but let me try. i never mentioned this bc when i had those realizations, it was too late, everyone moved on and i felt stupid for dwelling on this. i feel stupid now, typing this. the thing is, drituation left me quite traumatized. fucking pathetic, i know. the sudden explosion of fandom left me really badly hurt. i lost a lot of people i genuinely believed to be friends with, and i miss them dearly. i felt, fuck it, still feel deeply betrayed by some of them. i dont want people guess who is who thats not the point, those people moved on long time ago. but that hurt has been really difficult to deal with, especially since realistically i know its quite stupid. crying over some people who were following me back for a few months? but i tried to let myself heal and grow love for this community again and i thought we will be okay. drituation felt like the end of the world but we got through it and I thought we are smarter. and well. im not trying to blame anyone or even a whole community, idk maybe i want to blame the universe for putting me here or society for working this way i dont know. but im hurting and i need to find a better way to deal with things going the wrong way. and it deeply upsets me but im afraid that i have to learn how to love you all less. and i honestly dont know yet what that means, how moving forward will look like. i dont have to make this decision now so i let myself stay away from social media for a while still and then go with presented situation the best i can. i dont try to make anyone responsible for my wellbeing i want to make this clear. im just trying to share my feelings and give you context for whatever happen in the nearest future. no matter what i need more healthy relationship not even with ccs but with community itself (and if you see me rebloging hazbin hotel fanarts. spare me...)

I agree that sol has loved him and tried to save him selflessly but so has he to the same extent? He loved her in two time lines and will in this third one as well for 15 years selflessly without knowing at all that she has feelings for him, he also saved her life multiple times risking his and is ready to do it again paying the price with his life. The reason she has to go back and save him is literally because he saved her spent 15 years miserable because of guilt he couldn't save her legs and then got murdered for it. No to mention the other thousand things small and big he did for her safety and care in all 3 timelines. I don't think I have seen a character love someone so selflessly or devotedly as sun jae so I have to disagree with you there.

i think you've misunderstood me slightly though so i'd like to address that - you seem to interpret my statement about sunjae liking sol selfishly as some sort of bad thing - as if being selfish in love is wrong and cannot coexist with being selfless, too. you're absolutely right about sun jae being selfless in the way he loves sol, in everything he's done for her. but he's also been selfish in his devotion to her too, he wanted her to love him back, he wanted to be someone special to her. he gets mad at her in the woods during the retreat when she's been avoiding him like the plague, and even back when she bought him all those self-help books, he shuns her away out of his house by saying "you can't give me what i want so just go". does that make sun jae a bad person? of course not! when you love someone you want them to acknowledge it, that's perfectly valid and true. doesn't make it any less selfish. sun jae choses to be selfish, that's why he ends up with sol, and tae sung does not. tae sung's love, in my eyes, is truly selfless. the kinda love that wants their object of affection to be safe and happy, even if that means they themselves will never be on the receiving end of the same.

to me, the whole "i like you" "i love you" scene was a direct continuation of the scene where sun jae misses his flight and returns to sol after finding everything out. he literally asks her to stop worrying about him and allow herself to like him. sol doesn't respond, she's too overwhelmed with everything that's just happened. the "i like you", this time around, was her response. she tells sun jae that she's listened to him. that she's allowing herself to unabashedly like him. his response being "i love you" encapsulates everything he told her back then, but also somehow something more. when you love someone so much, the lines between selflessness and selfishness begin to blur, bc it's not about doing the right thing anymore, it's about doing right by this person. bc your compass of morality isn't a direction anymore, it's a person. sun jae's verbalising these thoughts to her, through his "i love you". these two have loved each other through time and space, over and over again, and their love has evolved over time. from a crush and a fan, silent and afar, to truly devoted, unapologetic love. but neither of them knew! what they've been doing for one another! all this time! the "role reversal" i was referring to might sound weird to the audience bc we know both their feelings from the start. but they don't! they never got to lay their hearts out so openly in front of one another. they're finally doing that now.

proud of the army is a CRAZYY statement omg it's kind of shocking seeing how people's nationalism is coming out with everything going on 😭 honestly this issue has been so divisive because i also tried to call someone out on their xenophobia because they were labeling pakistanis as "terrorists" and their rebuttal was calling me xenophobic toward indians (my own ppl??) 😭 ME..... xenophobic..... like okay

also before i begin, i just wanted to clarify that i have put in a lot of effort to research both sides of this war + the occupation of kashmir, but obviously there is a lot that i still am not aware of and i advise taking a lot of the news you see with a grain of salt because people tend to forget that propaganda is a war tool that governments actively use to influence our perception on what's going on. that's why most of the media is so biased in favor of one side or another. pls feel free to let me know if i need to clarify anything or if there's anything that i missed + need to be corrected on !!

for your second point, i think two things can be true in that india and pakistan's conflict did escalate to a war as both sides were engaged in conflict, but the context of kashmir and the partition is so extremely important to the conversation too and people are forgetting that a lot of kashmiris are caught in the crossfire of a war they didn't ask for. innocent indian and pakistani civilians, especially kashmiris, are the ones paying the price for this but everyone's picking sides like this is a sports team :/ a pattern i've also noticed is people leave out details that conveniently push the narrative they want to follow, but i personally find that to be very dangerous in a time where information is being used to manipulate people by the masses

also, you're not totally wrong there ! india did turn down the impartial investigation after pakistan denied involvement, BUT there is still no conclusive evidence put out publicly that the militants who attached the 26 tourists were pakistani. of course i'm so devastated that hinduphobia is so rampant that something like this would happen, but i also think it's dangerous to make assumptions that can lead to inciting more hatred and resentment against either side

i actually had a back and forth about this with the same person i mentioned before. basically, the only identification of those militants are from police notices of suspicion and eyewitness sketches. while these can be used to conduct a deeper investigation and find conclusive evidence, that isn't what we have yet. there is no biometric data linking the militants to be pakistani civilians affiliated with the LeT. the TRF claimed responsibility for the attack yet later retracted their statement and claimed it was a cyber intrusion. obviously that can be raised as a point of suspicion, but we have to also remember that india hasn't provided any evidence either. i don't know why it's so difficult of a concept to condemn both sides when both governments are responsible for putting innocent civilian lives on the line

honestly it's not your fault if any of the resources you've found are misleading in any way!! there's a lot of propaganda going on and unfortunately propaganda works REALLY well, especially in this case where either side is blocking media to push a perspective that makes the other look like the aggressor. i'm v honored you trust me 🫶 though there's also a lot that i don't know because of how much is being hidden from us behind the scenes </3 like these are the countries that have been going back and forth accusing each other of violating the ceasefire without ever confirming who actually did it first (even back in 2003), but now people are acting brand new when they're doing the same exact thing now. there is confirmation that pakistan fired projectiles over srinagar and jammu, but there's also evidence that india fired drones over kotla while the ceasefire was in place. both sides argue that the other side started it, but neither is willing to confirm who actually fired first. both governments seriously don't care about their civilians and are just using this to turn us against each other, it's really unfortunate :// and it's working! there's so much misinformation going around in the name of protecting one's country and it's sad to see. people are so quick to point fingers and turn on each other,, and a lot of people are forgetting about kashmir in all of this

but yeah i don't really have any defense for either country's government in this. they're both complicit so i won't say "oh this one's better because of this and this" like this did NOT need to escalate to a war but people will mock the ones who want peace because they think it's an ignorant solution. but i'm fully with you on the stance that i'm with kashmir and foremost 🙏

oblivious pining or domestic fluff (see previous statement OKAY BUT HONESTLY, you can have both cakes here. we are pining and living together. omg they were roommates/betrothed/fiances/coworkers/enemies etc. it's about not communicating your true feelings to prevent meaningful changes in your lives that COULD benefit you, but could also hurt so so so much. it's about the risk not being taken but also not letting go of what you have with a veracity that bites down like a dog on their preys neck)

H/C or crack (i honestly can't choose bc i love a good crack fic but also most of the crack fics i like treat it V seriously so they turn right back into sincerity, and tend do roam in the h/c categories anyway)
