this is something ive been curious about for a long time and i have yet to see anybody actually talk about it so i thought youd be my best shot at an answer haha. is there a cultural reason as to why most of the characters exclusively refer to each other by their last names, regardless of how long theyve known them/how close they are? like for example nishiki & kiryu or saejima & majima? additionally, considering that the vast majority of the characters are referred to by last name, do you know why it is that a lot of the characters refer to daigo as. well daigo instead of dojima? like even during dead souls where he's still the chairman, when majima isnt referring to him as boss, he'll just call him daigo and wont even bother tacking on an honorific (Which lowkey i feel like is kind of insane considering hes literally the chairman, but i dont know if im supposed to read it that way LOL). any clarification would be much appreciated!

TL;DR: As with all character analysis, it’s most useful to take into account both intradiegetic and extradiagetic explanations. Cultural considerations, practical considerations, and individual character choices are inextricably entwined in-and-out-of-universe.

So… yes and no! Let’s first ignore the characters as they exist in-universe for a moment. In any exchange between characters, there’s one more listener to be accounted for: the audience. All dialogue is a dialogue between the author and the audience, and within this framework the names the characters use for one another exist at the intersection of culture and practical communication.

The name a character uses for another doesn’t only convey what their relationship is, but often also what the relationship between the other character and the audience (typically from the point of view of the protagonist) is meant to be. That’s why there’s reliable overlap between how a character is most often referred to and the name their dialogue is labeled with.

If Kiryu is “Kiryu” to everyone he knows, even those closest to him, he’s “Kiryu” to most of the audience, too. The audience (aside from hearing the subtle “ryu” sound as often as possible) is positioned to view Kiryu exclusively as someone to be respected—but not inherently to view him with affection, like the children, women, friends, and subordinates in Kiryu’s life who are referred to by given names and nicknames. Contrast this with Ichiban, labeled “Kasuga,” and how the people in his life and the audience refer to him.

I say “most of the audience” because some people do call Kiryu “Kazuma” by choice. Some people don’t know how to differentiate between given name and family name, or identify the wrong name as the family name. The author presumes a Japanese audience and the dialogue occurs in that context.

There’s also the subcultures around the works that went on to inspire the series, like ninkyo, v-cinema, and seinen manga. How, for example, have general attitudes towards gender lead to a highly gendered conception of chivalry? When male characters feel an instinctive protectiveness over and affection toward female characters and assume given-name familiarity with female characters they’ve just met, is this chivalry or a form of chauvinism? Are female characters not implicitly given less respect if they’re rarely or never referred to by family name, or not even given a family name? Where does this leave a trans female character like Ako, for whom using only her family name is akin to deadnaming her?

Alongside cultural considerations are the practical ones. What do you do if you have characters who are relatives and share a surname? But between Yuko and Akira Nishikiyama and Yasuko and Taiga Saejima, consider who defaults to given name and why. Consider how they’re introduced to the story and who’s introduced first. Consider their roles in the story and how what we’ve gone over so far may have contributed to their roles. These are all factors.

There’s also parent and child: Makoto and Saya Date, Jin and Ryuji Goda, Jiro and Ichiban Kasuga, and Masumi and Masato Arakawa. Arakawa is an interesting case; in the context of his whole family (Toshio, Yoko, Masumi, Masato), he’s actually referred to as “Masumi” instead. What about much larger families, like the Amon Clan? It’s simplest to refer to them by full name, but if I only say “Amon,” chances are you think of Jo Amon specifically. Why is that?

And last but not least, Sohei, Yayoi, and Daigo Dojima. Once cultural and practical considerations have been factored in, it’s worthwhile to look into individual characters. Luckily in Daigo’s case there actually is a canon, in-universe reason: he prefers to be called “Daigo.” We learn this in RGGO during an interaction with Mine, who previously insisted on calling him “Chairman Dojima.” Mine’s actually not the only one; plenty of people do call him “Dojima,” it’s more so that we spend the most time with characters who either would call him “Daigo” anyway or are aware of his preference.

As for Kiryu and Nishikiyama, I think Kiryu using a nickname for Nishikiyama (“Nishiki”) is perfectly in line with how closeness is typically conveyed, but in Nishikiyama’s case I can only speculate. Whether to use a given name or adopting a nickname is down to the individual; it signals closeness, in real life and in fiction, but changes nothing about the underlying relationship. Actors Yasukaze Motomiya and Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi and their characters (childhood friends) will sometimes use formal honorifics with each other in such a playful way that it comes across just as affectionate as a nickname, so you have to take it case-by-case.

It’s possible Sunflower was less family-oriented than Morning Glory—if we’re to view characters through the protagonist, the Morning Glory kids are all part of Kiryu’s family, but not all the Sunflower kids were. It’s possible Sunflower put more emphasis on the families the kids came from, perhaps due to Kazama’s guilt over killing their parents. It’s possible they were too old (or playing at being too old) to introduce themselves to each other by given name, or grew out of it. It’s also possible Yakuza’s writing simply didn’t take into account children tend to use given names with each other but Yakuza 3’s writing did.

Still, it’s worth examining: what does Kiryu using Nishikiyama’s nickname while Nishikiyama uses Kiryu’s family name suggest about the level of respect they have for each other and the distance between them?

Majima and Saejima are, on the other hand, most likely to have just been too old to be using given names with each other when they met. In Majima’s case, given he can be and often is overly-familiar, disrespectfully so, it’s more interesting to me that he isn’t when it comes to Saejima.

Finally, there’s also something to be said about how the characters have a tendency to hang on to past impressions of the people in their lives. The Arakawa Family, for example, and how their circumstances have changed beyond recognition but they’ll still call each other Boss, Captain, Young Master, Ichi, Mitsu. I think there are echoes of that sentiment among a lot of characters, past and present.

I have a lot of thoughts on names and titles and honorifics, but I’ll leave it there to (somewhat) stay within the scope of the original ask. I hope at least some of this has been helpful to you, and you’re welcome to ask for further clarification on anything at all.

Note: Bringing back a request from last year.

Masato Aizawa

When he first gets the texts, he would do that double take thing where you read a text then but the phone down for a split second until it registers then bring it back up to reread it before locking the fuck in. He’s not good with words in the sense that he could keep a good sexting sesh going. He’ll be okay at first then somewhere down the line say something sorta wild that derails the conversation and makes you laugh more than it’d make you horny. He’s learned that it’s best to just lean in on his partner and let THEM do all the talking by saying stuff like “Oh yeah?” “Keep going. What happens next?” “Tell me more.” Then when he thinks there’s enough build up, he’ll slide in a “Wanna see what you do to me?” before sending a horribly angled dick pic. Guess it’s a good thing it’s pretty because he’s no photographer.

Akira Nishikiyama

Send him the right thing and you will open the floodgates for his filthiness. He can either be a taunting little tease, leaving you literally aching to see him or he will be downright disgusting. He lets you set the tone and then he follows suit. In truth, he’d ask for pics of you all the time if you were down. If you’re apart for a bit he’ll ask you to snap a few in that cute little number he bought you and when he gets it, he’ll be like ��fuck, im omw” and while you thought he was joking, he disappears on you for like 20 minutes before he’s knocking at your front door. He can’t leave sexting as just sexting for too long before he has to have a slice of the real thing.

Reina Hattori

God, do not send this woman overtly lewd texts! Please, she does not have a good poker face. She will read the text, her ears would turn red and she’ll send back a quick, “You stop that.” And while she seems unreceptive to the text, it certainly had its intended effect. She’ll spend the rest of her work day fanning her collar, fiddling with her necklace and rubbing at her neck in an attempt to soothe herself. Rile her up enough and she’ll find herself uncharacteristically spacing out when she should be fulfilling drink orders. She’ll be annoyed at you about it but surely you can make things right somehow?

Osamu Kashiwagi

He will just not respond. *crying face emoji* He’ll read it and it might even do a little something to him but he will not dignify that text with a response. He’d be lying through his fucking teeth if he said that it didn’t make his mind wander though. When he finally gets to see you, or if he can’t get to you, he’ll give you a call and grumble something along the lines of “Just what did you think you were getting at with that little message of yours?” Feel free to continue teasing him but he can only take so much before he’ll want you to ‘do something about it’.

Kazuma Kiryu

It’ll sorta throw him when you first send him something of that nature to the point that he’s not even sure what to say in response. He’d probably just send a single emoticon and (accidentally) immediately nip whatever mood you were hoping for in the bud. He won’t say so but he’d be a little disappointed that you didn’t say anything back. He didn’t want you to stop, he just didn’t know how to participate. Once he gets it though, he will try in earnest… Even if it doesn't quite get the job done. Prepare for short responses like “I want that too.” “Mm, sounds good.” “Ha, seems you know what I like.” “Hope to see you soon too. ” He’s TRYING for the love of God! He’s doing his best!

Goro Majima

There… was a time when he left his phone with Nishida because he couldn’t be bothered to keep up with it. He lost it all the time or he’s had to replace the screen because he was uh, roughhousing, for lack of a better word. The day you texted him something a little risque, and put both him and Nishida in a particularly awkward position, things changed. That when a little something like this:

Nishida: Excuse me, boss! Uh, looks like you just received a text from _____-san.

Majima: Oh, yeah? What’d ____-chan say then?

[Nishida opens the text thread. His eyes widen after reading the contents of the text. Red rises from his neck to his forehead and he’s looking at his boss with a horror unlike anything he’s ever shown the man before. Majima pauses what he’s doing for a moment and shoots a particular nasty frown at the younger man.]

Majima: The hell’s your problem? Ya got diarrhea or somethin’? Read the damn message shithead!

Nishida: B-Boss, I, uh.. I think it’s better if you read this one yourself.

Majima: What? Ya forget how to read all’a sudden? READ IT!

Nishida: C-C… *sweating profusely* C-can’t w-wait to.. Uh, Ehem…

Majima: Yer pissin’ me off. *stomps over to snatch the phone from Nishida* It ain’t that hard ta read a damn message! *clears throat* Can’t wait ta get my hands all over you. Dying to let you fuck…my throat… Huh… *sees there’s a pretty risque pic attached and immediately wacks Nishida in the head* YA LOOKED AT _____, ASSHOLE?!

Nishida: B-boss! I HAD DO IDEA IT WAS THAT KIND OF PICTURE OR I WOULDN’T HAVE OPENED IT!

Majima: FORGET WHAT THE HELLA YA SAW AND DON’T EVEN LET ME CATCH YA LOOKIN AT _____ WRONG OR I’LL SLICE YER EYES OUT MYSELF! *still whacking poor Nishida*

Taiga Saejima

He’s like Kiryu in that he’s not good at responding to texts. Lewd or otherwise. When you send him any text, he will simply react to it. It’d take you telling him that he should say something back because otherwise your racy text thread would look a little something like this:

Probably best to keep the dirty talk to the bedroom?

Shun Akiyama

You’re pretty much the reason Hana refuses to allow Akiyama to use his cell while in the office. He sends you pretty racy messages himself throughout his work day and if you play along, he pretty much forgets anything but the conversation he’s having with you. He’s sent Hana on a “lunch run” just so that he could lock himself in the office, call you and pick up where you left off while he “took care of himself” before. Hana was none the wiser thankfully, otherwise she’d be a little hesitant about what she touches in that office.

hi hiii, i saw you complaining about bad owen takes and i wanna ask about your owen takes! What are the biggest misconceptions you see people have about him? What are some things that more casual fans tend to miss/not notice? What do you think of the normal owen and kizu owen split?

OMG IVE been thinking about how to answer this for days IM SO EXCITED TO YAP!

I will start though that I don't have a lot about Kizu atm, because there's a LOT there but we really don't see Kizu!Owen very often. I know we're a tad behind on event translations, but.... I don't think he's been in an event or card story since Main Story 2 wrapped up, other than Owen's Walpurgis 4koma.... can we have a moment of silence for Kizu!Owen likers? I miss our sweetie. And more.. hi this is Cee after writing all of the below I got really inspired to start working on a handful of character essays so expect those in the tag at some point..

In terms of misconceptions, I think the biggest ones I see are that Owen is incapable of knowingly doing a positive thing. Or that he isn't capable of being kind, compassionate or merciful. (dodges rocks). I get why people who aren't total Owenheads come to this conclusion. It's easy to take what is said about Owen (and the Northies as a whole) as gospel, in fact, I think the Northerner's serve a really interesting role in the thematic relevance of prejudice against wizards. After all, in MS1, the reader gets one small look at Owen after the Calamity battle where he is with the other Northies plus Oz as an introduction, four lines of dialogue and then he is gone for forty-thousand words. While he is off-screen, we only ever hear negative things about him - Heathcliff says he's scary, Cain tells Akira about his eye and to not listen to a thing Owen says, the Previous Sage calls him maddening and creepy and basically every other character who talk about the Northies calling them the Worst Ever. Not a great first impression, and there is a lot of time for that perception to sink in and go unchallenged. And I'll admit, even after they officially make their debut at the party, the Northies don't go out of their way to challenge that perception obviously - why would they? after all, words are a curse and titles a burden; they've all carried the title of Northerner for so very long, can someone please write something about Oz's Balcony speech I think there are a lot of reasons for why Owen's role in the party was so fraught (and I go into them a little here although that post is more part-vent part-summary of an event card spurred by an ex-oomfs twt vague than proper analysis)

But it's not just how long that we are only told of the Northies vices or their lack of defense; even after their introduction and all throughout the stories, trusted figures, like the Twins (which trusting them is dubious...) and Oz, reinforce the idea of Owen being entirely malevolent and insane. Owen is evil because Owen is the Northern Wizard Owen. He seeks to twist your heart into a withering husk. But does he really?

I think the biggest misconception is that Owen's one and true goal in life is to cause chaos and misery, to reap untold amounts of violence. That's a goal he would never deny having, but he didn't deny killing Nicholas either, did he? This perception about what Owen wants (when he doesn't even really know it himself) puts on blinders, where the times that he is benign or even kind or compassionate get overlooked, over explained and twisted into wickedness by other wizards. Those words might be slightly too warm for him, but I know for a fact there is a case to be made for him being merciful and having a more nuanced relationship with killing and death than others would believe. I think there are many events which showcase the nicer parts of his personality (one of my faves is Winter 2022; his part in it is relatively small but it showcases a unique facet of his relationship with lies/truths as well as the gap between him causing misery versus, but we've seriously had so many banger events.)

But luckily, even if one doesn't want to scour through the backlog of miscellaneous events to see these traits on display (or are one of the people who only take Bunta's writing as law of the world), we see Owen act in contrary ways to the ideal of a wicked Northern wizard all throughout the main stories and anniversaries, in big and small ways.

In particular, I think in all of the excitement of the final showdown in the second Anniversary, the details that Bunta had written in regarding Owen's involvement is overlooked. They are, after all, small things compared to the great feats of magic that Akira is witnessing.

Spoilers below for anni2 for any anime-onlys or fandom newcomers, welcome and I hope dearly we get to see that animated one day.

First, and this is so important to me, throughout the fight, Akira states that Owen is keeping one hand on his hat to prevent himself from losing it. At this point, they have already made the transformation into their event outfits. As in most events, Anni2's clothes were tailored by our dear Chloe. Owen does have a bit of a fashionista streak (that's something I think can be missed too, that he has a genuine interest in style) but not to the extent that he is typically that cautious with his outfits. There have definitely been times he's allowed clothes to get ripped, torn or otherwise ruined. So him going to the effort to make sure he doesn't lose this accessory is noteworthy. After all, he does have other hats. While Owen is stated to be using a rapier in this fight, typically the stance used for it has the other arm lowered; as I understand it, that aids balance and power. Owen isn't using the rapier as a channeling tool, he is actively slashing at Oz with it. So, he is putting himself at a disadvantage by keeping his arm in that position. That is - Owen cares more about keeping the hat that was given to him by Chloe than he cares about giving 100% to a fight against the strongest wizard in the world, when he comes from a place where strength is the defining characteristic.

Then, ironically, this hat then serves as a way for Owen to shield his heart from the western wizard once the fight is over. As the fighters are recollecting themselves and going off to lick their wounds, Owen stumbles in pain. To everyone's surprise, Chloe catches him. This is a moment of kindness, but it is also a direct acknowledgement of Owen's current weakness. Yet, despite such a thing being a direct jab to any Northerner's pride, Owen barely lashes out at him at all. Even though he was irritated from the results of the battle, he simply stares, likely just as surprised as everyone else that someone would support him, then tells Chloe to leave him alone. Akira says an expression of hurt crosses Chloe's face and, seeing that, Owen pulls the hat over his eyes and looks away before disappearing.

Owen would have the entire world believe he loves misery of all kinds, loves being the cause of it. These negative emotions are the driving point of his magic and he certainly just used a lot of mana in the fight against Oz. So, why would he just walk away - not just walk away, look away - from a chance to not just push back against Chloe's kindness, but a way for him to generate negativity and "refuel"? An argument could be made that his lack of his typical wordy rejection, laden with insults, is just a consequence of the fight - he's tired, humiliated, not even desserts can lift his mood. Owen just wants to go and sulk.

I think if that was the case, this would be an isolated incident. But we see him look away from or react similarly to other's true multiple other times. He looks similarly irritated (or even guilty) in his affection story after he told Akira he hated them.

This post is getting pretty long so I'm going to wrap up quickly, but another incident happens during the fight that I think should be focused on more:

When faced with the opportunity to kill Arthur, and deal a horrible wound to Oz's heart by doing so, Owen hesitates. The wizard who doesn't care about anyone or anything, who is alone completely, who loves violence and bloodshed, who wants to see nothing more than Oz's face twist in agony has a chance to inflict utter despair upon many of the wizards in the manor

and he hesitates.

What a crazy good character. I could make an essay off of a single line of Owen's dialogue if needed, he's so seriously rich in layers.

Other things I think can get missed: his sentimentality (see: his efforts to keep his hat, but also how he has reacted when handed certain gifts (also talked about that above), the multiple times he's exorcised or otherwise helped souls move on (unfortunately one of my favorite examples is a now-deleted card story if anyone backed up his 2nd mahopa or would be interested in translating it..), the multiple times he acts as an impromptu teacher for the younger wizards. There's definitely more and I can expand on all of these but I'm getting sleepy... thank you for the question and feel free to let me know if i should clarify something or if im forgetting something major. Ryuji

Believe it or not, Ryuji falling in love with someone because of their looks is highly unlikely. While he does show admiration for women with… “great bods” as he eloquently puts it, all of it is simply him being a teenage boy who hasn’t really felt what it was like falling in love. When Ryuji fell for you, he felt the wind being knocked out of him. You were absolutely gorgeous, no matter what you say or think.

But, if you had a health condition wherein you had to watch what you eat, Ryuji will keep a list of things you are not allowed to eat. He will also ask advice from his mother or Akira if there are alternatives to these things in case you get curious about them. He isn’t strict per se, but he will be extremely cautious.

He is absolutely obsessed with you. The kind of lover who would want to do everything together. You want to study? He will join, no guarantees he will do the same, though. He will probably be playing something on his phone, while you study. Would probably randomly call you as well, and you don’t even have to talk about anything. He just likes the feeling that you are in each other’s presence. If he wants to do an activity, he has you in mind. Like maybe he wants to watch a movie, and if he’s thinking if you’d want to go with him, or he wants to play billiards with the Phantom Thieves, and he’s wondering if you know how to play yourself so you can join. The Phantom Thieves are used to it at this point, where Ryuji is, you are there as well.

“Is it okay if I join? Will your friends mind?”

“It’s fine with them! They love you already,” he says as he practically jumps with joy at the thought of spending time with the people he cares about.

He really likes having an arm around your shoulders. It isn’t because he’s possessive or anything, he finds it really comforting knowing you are there, beside him. He feels really giddy whenever you initiate physical contact, but he masks it really well. Although at first, he was smiling really widely and was really red whenever you put your hand into his.

If someone dares to attack your appearance, he is quick to anger. You will probably have to hold him back and calm him, which he will, eventually. He hugs you afterwards and whispers reassuring and loving words to you, while thinking maybe if this person will be detected by the MetaNav.

If you ever feel insecure about your appearance, Ryuji is quick to compliment each and every part of you that he loves! He will also give you kisses all over your face after each compliment just so that you are not just hearing his love, but feeling it as well. Ryuji is someone who is filled with so much love, and he loves you, with all his heart, and does not want you to feel less just because of what society deems ‘attractive.’ While he can’t change the world’s mind, he would like to change yours, to see how you are, in his heart and mind.

Honestly I have a theory that sheik was ORIGINALLY early in development supposed to be their own character but became Zelda’s alter ego later. Regardless their body types and features are so different it’s so fucking funny seeing Nintendo try to gaslight us and say « NUH HUH SHEIK IS LITERALLY JUST ZELDA IN DIFFERENT CLOTHES » like come on she definitely gave herself a dick be real. Zelda is SO the non binary person who says « yeah I dream about changing genders and I wish I wasn’t always a girl but I’m not trans I’m just cis haha »

Like OBVIOUSLY so, he could of been made to ve a separate chracter originally yes! And i don't know if there are any alternate development notes or interviews that says otherwise, but...the more I look at this picture, I'm scared this was gonna be Tetra before Tetra if you catch my drift.

OoT and MM to a lesser extant probably have so many weird production stuff we just don't know about, if we had like the stuff we have today about botw's devlopment but for OoT I would be so excited, the little stuff we has interests me to no fucking end and I wanna see what the hell was going through their brains for half of it cuz one thing....Im just gonna word vomit out this theory.

Link's mom. There is a chance that her design in the manga was actually by Nintendo originally and not the akira himekawa. So, here me out, the German Club Nintendo comic, it's called Hyrule under fire, its supposed to be about the end of the civil war that happens before OoT, so, since Link's dad is so close to just looking like Link with cheek bones (designs that drive me up the way in a funny way for reasons that if you ever ask me I'm gonna throw up on a post) I think he was just made up for the comic.

Both of these came out within 2 years of eachother, the German comic in 1998 when the game came out and the manga in 2000, so either Akira Himekawa saw the German comic from 1998 and decided to reference that design for their own work OR....Link's mom had an offical design that was SCRAPPED FROM THE GAME.

I wish I could ask them about it because they would be the most straightforward I bet, look if any of you ever want to @ them on twitter and ask where they got that design I would LOVE to know

servamp spoiler about mahiru’s secret:

now that i’m thinking about it, it’s kinda crazy that akira pulled off mahiru’s revival is it not? it took villages to revive the servamps and they still didn’t turn out human so how did mahiru come back as a human with the price being just akira? am i missing something?

like the more i think about it the more i feel like its such a shame that this was revealed at the very end of the series + it’s used for mahiru to briefly fall back on the “it should be me” trope that he had gotten over with in london. i genuinely think the tooru cliffhanger was unnecessary. tanaka shouldve let him tell mahiru, have the call come immediately after the reveal, it gets forgotten in the midst of confronting tsubaki, the whole london shenanigan happens, he reveals that he doesn’t mind being the sacrifice because he’s died once, him and kuro can bond over their fucked up reincarnation and boom the story moves on

this way the reveal could’ve been a little more impactful and could’ve been an even angstier reason to mahiru’s self sabotage

i remember there were some theories floating around that he’s a phoenix or had some ties to saint germain and stuff but that all went down. had the secret been revealed earlier in the story we could’ve gotten so much more background about mahiru and akira, i was so hyped for her and her relationship w touma. the last time mahiru went thru major character development is the london arc and he’s the mc for gods sake 😭

i want to preface this by saying i absolutely love this series and i have been loyally reading the raws the day they come out every single month for the past 5 years, but i think servamp fell off after c3 arc and then got better for a little bit in london arc🫣 obviously i am very kuromahi pilled so this is a very biased !opinion!

and yall, ik this is going to make me look stupid asl but i genuinely don’t understand mikuni’s obsession with misono. i swear i read those chapters like 5 times but my brain just can’t comprehend it. maybe i should try reading the english translations for once because clearly im not understanding the japanese version

some sort of mock up because i cant think of a wings pose for the life of me. to my understanding, when you pull on the chain, the wings will move UP. folded wings look weird, and ive never seen anyone do two pair of wings for the specific product before so im sorta hesitant.

If you look up at the stars is dificult to don't get lost on them, the space is infinite and with that infinity it comes an infinite number of posibilities too, humans barely know about the space, about other planets and even other dimensions, people have tried to satiate their curiosity by studying the stars, others by thinking on the endless posibilities, exposing their ideas in stories

When you think about the endless posibilities you can help but feel attracted by the idea too, maybe there are, indeed, other worlds with others versions of yourself, the others you could be living endless adventures or even living boring lifes, and with that tought in mind you look back at him, calling his name and with a smile you just speak your mind out

"Akira, do you think we are together in every universe?"

That was something that have caught him off guard, he took a moment to not only process your words but also to try to surpress the butterflies that started to flutter in his stomach, laughing while punching your arm gently, in a friendly manner, calling you out for getting so sappy all of the sudden, seriously what have gotten into you?

Your relasionship was incredibly meaningful for him, he just couldn't imagine not having you around, even if he has problems expressing himself because getting this cheesy make him feel embarrased and yet he won't deny how happy you make him, so he really hopes that if there is other versions of you two they are together too

If the stars were able to answer you then the stars would tell you all kind of interesting stories, how somewhere on this universe there are this teenagers in love having the time of their lifes, running around after school, everyone who happen to witness could see the pure love they have for each other, if you look in other side you can see two camarades, fighting along side with each other, pirates, knights, even thiefs, there were countless of posibilities and each one of them were already happening

The stars would tell you about your forbidden love, there is a world where you two weren't mean to be together, were everyone was against it and yet the lovers didn't let anyone stop each other, forbidden or not you two would be together, even if that mean having to run away

If you search further you will find another interesting and unexpected stories, sowhere in this universe there is a little kitten, resting peacefuly just for his little friend to jump onto him to playfight

The stars could tell you countless stories about you two, about how, indeed, in each universe you two were destinated to meet and to love each other, to be important for the other, however the endless posibilities and destiny aren't always kind, if there is happiness somewhere has to be sadness, and you had to be in the other side of the coin

You were one of those versions of yourself were, like every other, you two have met, but lucky wasn't at your side and your story wouldn't have a happy ending. No matter how important you have been to each other, how much you meant to each other the version of the story you were living in wouldn't be one where you two would end together

After losing everyone else Akira have decided to confront Ryo, he have being the one making him the Devilman and with that same strenght he was going to end with him, but he didn't wanted to do this to you

He didn't understood and he didn't wanted to do it, he was pleding you to think again, haven't you seen what Ryo provoked? He promise he will find a way to fix it, he will fight for all those who he have lost, he would fight for you! He will make sure to end with Satan so you two can go back to your normal lifes, but you won't heard him, from the start you have chosen your side of this fight and that side was with Satan, no matter what was your reasons you decided to take down the humans

Of course you loved him, you two have being together for the longest time, but this was greater than any of you, this battle goes back to times he would not even know and he will not understand, no matter how much he cries, no matter how much it pains you seeing him cry and plead, how much it hurts hearing him still telling you that he loves you this is a war and war is never kind to neither of the sides, there is no way to stop this and the only thing left is to fight, to fight the person you love the most until ending with the life of the other with your own hands

Imagining the Phantom Thieves as Genshin characters!! (Headcannons, kit, and team ideas because I'm a nerd)

Coming from a p5 nerd and self-acclaimed genshin theorycrafter (I'm not, I just like big damage). SPOILERS FOR P5 AHEAD!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Mostly because I am procrastinating my HL essay and a documentary on Czechoslovakia that I have to do for history but :)) Enjoy!! Also idk if anyone else has done this before, if they have and you've seen it, I would appreciate a link to their post, since people will have different ideas to me!

Akira Kurusu:

He'd be like the traveler - in that he can switch between elements being a wildcard and all. I feel like if he and the traveler met they'd have a Spiderman meme moment like damn you don't need a vision either? Cool.

From Inazuma (I mean they're all going to be from inazuma because Japan). But I feel like his backstory would be like he was a lowly peasant living in the countryside but had to move to inazuma city yk like im having to move to Tokyo - then he meets his cool gang of misfits.

Show me your true form. (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 80) During his elemental burst, Akira enters the Wildcard state and can change from element to element by using his Enhanced Skill: Trickster. Using Trickster allows Akira to switch from element to element. While in the Wildcard state, Akira deals elemental infused Normal ATK DMG of the element he is in, each element having different properties. Since his burst is just elemental infused Normal ATKs, the damage from his burst will scale on both the burst multiplier and the normal ATK multiplier, the burst multiplier increasing the buffs he gets from each element, and the normal ATK multiplier increasing the DMG of each individual hit.

Pyro: Deals massive Pyro DMG to a single target, inflicting Severed Flames upon the target. When a target is inflicted by Severed Flames, Akira deals 50% more DMG to that target, and his ATK is increased by 25%.

Electro: Akira enters the Storm state, and his Elemental Mastery is increased by 100. Deals Electro DMG in an AoE, inflicting Thunder's Wake onto the target. Enemies effected by Thunder's Wake have their DEF decreased by 10%.

Anemo: Sucks enemies into a vortex and increases Akira's Elemental Mastery by 100. Enemies pulled into the Vortex become stunned and cannot move until the vortex disappears. Vortex lasts for 10 seconds. 13 second cooldown.

Dendro: Deals Dendro DMG to nearby opponents, and increases bloom DMG (including hyperbloom) by 75% of Akira's Elemental Mastery. Also increases Akira's Elemental Mastery by 100.

Cryo: Deals AoE Cryo DMG to opponents, and increases Akira's ATK by 15% for each enemy that is frozen on the field up to 6 enemies.

Hydro: Deals AoE Hydro DMG to opponents, and summons Mini-gana (do you get it) to deal periodic Hydro DMG. When Mini-gana is on the field, Mini-gana will heal nearby party members by 70% of the DMG done by its attacks, and decreases nearby opponents Hydro RES by 20%.

Geo: Deals AoE Geo damage to nearby targets, increasing Akira's ATK and Normal ATK DMG by 15% per Crystallise reaction triggered, capping at 6 triggers.

Steal your heart! (Elemental skill. 15 second cooldown.) Hold skill: Akira calls upon his allies to support him, summoning a Monabus and driving it, allowing him to deal Physical DMG to opponents for 150% of his current ATK. Press skill: Akira summons a Mini-gana that deals periodic Physical DMG to nearby opponents for 150% of his current ATK, and buffing his CRIT Rate by 20% for 20 seconds.

A new mask. (Passive talent 1) When Akira enters the Wildcard state, increases his Elemental DMG bonus (including Physical) by 50% of his current ATK.

Home away from home. (Passive talent 2) When put in a team with Goro or Futaba, Akira increases all allies' ATK by 15% and their elemental mastery by 100.

The idea is you build him with a lot of ATK so that his passive can covert it into elemental DMG bonus, so it doesn't matter that you can't use a DMG bonus goblet, which makes ATK on the goblet better overall. So ATK sands and goblet. Also I overtuned the Skill because physical damage SUCKS. But I wanted to include it since he's got his whole Wildcard thing and it wouldn't work to put an element to it since he can switch between them. And physical DMG can't mess with elemental reactions.

Ryuji Sakamoto:

Arataki gang. ARATAKI GANG. Because Max Mittleman = Ryuji and Max Mittleman = Itto. So yeah. Se also gives MAJOR Itto vibes!! (In the best way possible.)

As for his vision, sticking to Captain Kidd's lightning moves, I'd give him electro. I think he'd be a claymore user, but his claymore would be shaped like a mallet or whatever it is he carried in Mementos.

Feel the rage of the seven seas! (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 80) Deals periodic electro damage in an AoE and enters the Seven Seas state. While in the Seven Seas state, Ryuji summons Captain Kidd and uses bombs from Captain Kidd's ship (which attack when he uses his normal attack) to deal Electro DMG to opponents in the AOE. When in the Seven Seas state, Ryuji's elemental mastery is buffed by 10% of the team's elemental mastery and his Electro DMG bonus increases by 50% of his elemental mastery. Lasts for 17 seconds, with a 15 second cooldown.

Go get 'em, Captain! (Elemental skill. Cooldown 10 seconds) Ryuji rides Captain Kidd's boat and deals Electro DMG to opponents in the area, buffing his ATK by 10% (at talent level 10) for 15 seconds.

Bombs away! (Passive talent) When Ryuji triggers an Overloaded reaction, his Elemental Mastery increases by 100, and his ATK increases by 3%, stacking up to 5 times, each Overloaded trigger counting as a stack.

I thought of this so you'd use the supports before him, do his skill into burst to get the buff. Also, I see him as an Overloaded carry just because there are no Overloaded teams in Genshin and I think he would fit it really well. Designed to work well with Ann, as you'll see in her kit :)

Ann Takamaki:

Complete Yoimiya vibes. They'd be best friends by the way. Ann stops by Naganohara fireworks every day with Ryuji to feed the cats there and say hi to Yoimiya :D I'd make her like a popular dancer or something I'm not sure. But she does have an element of her previous fame (if we can call it that) and has people appreciate her for her beauty. Instead of being quarter American, she's quarter from Mondstadt this time! And, Pyro vision. Of course.

Do you feel the burn? (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 60) Ann deals Pyro DMG in an AoE, increasing Overloaded DMG by 70% and decreasing the Pyro and Electro RES of nearby opponents by 60%. Additionally, Ann will deal coordinated Pyro DMG with the on-field character, each attack dealing 70% of Ann's current ATK. Lasts for 20 seconds, 15 second cooldown.

Like what you see? (Elemental skill. Cooldown: 12 seconds) Ann deals Pyro DMG in an AoE, using her charm to paralyse enemies for 10 seconds, and reducing their defence by 20%.

Thanks for the support! (Passive talent 1) When at least 3 party members are either of the Pyro or Electro element, Ann will increase the CRIT Rate of all party members by 15%.

Pink Diamonds. (Passive talent 2) When put in a team with Ryuji and Akira, Ann's Pyro DMG bonus increases by 25%.

Yeah she's my designated Ryuji support because I love their friendship and they give so much sibling energy I love them <33 I wanted to give her the ability to have an advanced skill during her burst since she also deals damage in P5, but I thought it would overkill since her kit is already stupid powerful... Also you do have the option to stay on her during her burst since she does coordinated attacks like Yelan.

Morgana:

Akira fished him out of the sea. Like Paimon. But he is infinitely better than Paimon in every single way imaginable. I'm actually not sure how he found him in this world but the fishing him out of a sea thing was a joke... mostly. But yes he is a magical cat who can talk and do cool damage! I'd say not that odd for Genshin standards though. Anemo vision obviously.

I'm not a cat! (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 60) Morgana leaps into the air and creates an Anemo vortex (looks similar to Lynette's burst in that there's a cat in the middle :> ) that sucks in nearby enemies and deals periodic Anemo DMG based on 50% of Morgana's current Elemental Mastery. If an element is applied to the Vortex, nearby allies have their elemental DMG bonus for that element increased by 15%. Vortex lasts for 15 seconds and has a 12 second cooldown.

Tch, you guys are just small fry. (Elemental skill. Cooldown: 10 seconds) Morgana summons Zorro to deal periodic Anemo DMG to enemies, pulling them into a small vortex and healing nearby party members for 50% of Morgana's Elemental mastery + 25% of Morgana's max HP.

What about my fatty tuna? (Passive talent 1) Driven by his hunger, Morgana increases the ATK and ATK SPD of nearby party members by 20%. hoping they'll finish fighting quicker so they can all go and eat some good sushi after the battle.

All for you! (Passive talent 2) When put in a team with Ann, increases all allies' CRIT DMG and Pyro DMG bonus by 20%.

Makoto Nijima:

I wasn't sure what element I should give her since Nuke isn't really something that exists in Genshin... I decided upon Cryo because she fits the vibes. I'm not sure why but she does. I once saw something that said like vision users were chosen for their personal characteristics and that Cryo was for lonely people or something, (I'm paraphrasing don't quote me on this) not that she's lonely! Just that she had some trouble finding friends because her sister was always working and her position as the council president made it difficult. So yeah, Cryo.

This is my new self! (Elemental burst. Energy cost 60.) Makoto enters the Free spirit state and her ATK is increased by 40% for 10 seconds. She uses Johanna to ride into the air does a blast of AoE Cryo DMG to nearby enemies. 15 second cooldown.

I'll show you what I'm really made of. (Elemental skill. Duration 15 seconds. Cooldown 20 seconds.) Makoto rides Johanna and can drive into enemies. When riding Johanna, her skill becomes an enhanced skill, and she can deal increased DMG to enemies by ramming into them.

I don't need to prove myself to you. (Passive talent) When Makoto uses her elemental skill or enters the Free Spirit state, her Cryo DMG bonus is increased by 20%, and enemies' Cryo RES decreases by 20%.

Skill-based DPS because mostly everyone I've designed so far is burst reliant, and we know that Makoto is super cool and does things her own way while still being uber mega strong.

Yusuke Kitagawa:

Renowned Inazuman artist. He must be. I feel as though he's like Itto in the way that he'd interact with Kamisato Ayato on a daily basis at his art exhibitions and thank him for his patronage, but never realise he's the Yashiro comissioner. Oh sweet Yusuke never change. Also Cryo vision because Goemon!!

The real meaning of art. (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 60) In the throes of battle, Yusuke feels inspiration hit him and is compelled to paint the scene. To do this, he freezes all nearby opponents (regardless of whether they are affected by Hydro, but opponents effected by Hydro will stay frozen for longer) immediately upon casting his Elemental Burst, dealing a burst of AoE Cryo DMG. His normal ATKs then become infused with Cryo, and he uses his paintbrush to attack enemies in large strokes, dealing AoE Cryo DMG.

Is this true beauty? (Elemental skill. Cooldown 10 seconds.) Yusuke frames his enemies in his canvas (he does that thing with his hands where he pretends to take a photo I don't know how to describe it), dealing Cryo DMG to all opponents in his lens. All opponents captured have their Freeze duration extended by 5 seconds and have their Cryo RES decreased by 20%.

I must capture this moment! (Passive talent) Yusuke's DMG to Frozen opponents increases by 25%.

Futaba Sakura:

Dendro. Need I explain? (Okay maybe I might have to explain but I just thought it fit her really well I don't know why.) She's the daughter of the boss of Komore Teahouse (which I've made to be Sojiro. I'm sorry old boss.) and spends her days sitting behind the counter and waiting with Taroumaru. Since there isn't technology in this world she's a pro codebreaker and has intercepted and deciphered codes from the military multiple times! And since her palace was Ancient Egyptian-themed, I think it would be fitting if she'd been really interested by Sumerian culture and wanted to visit for a long time, always reading about it. Hence, her name as Alibaba. In this world, I'd like to think her mother was a scholar who attended the Sumeru Akademiya in the Spantamad Darshan since that's to do with Ley Lines and such... closest thing to Cognitive Psience I think? Also the Dendro vision could fit with her fondness for Sumeru!

Alibaba sees all! (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 80) During her elemental burst, Al Azif floats above the battlefield and casts Restricted Zone, generating a field. Within the Restricted Zone, all enemies' resistances are nullifed, and their elemental RES for all elements in the party are decreased by 20%, and increases all allies Elemental Mastery by 25% of Futaba's elemental mastery. Within the Restricted Zone, periodic Dendro DMG is also dealt to all enemies within, scaling on Futaba's Elemental Mastery. Restricted Zone lasts for 25 seconds, with a 20 second cooldown.

Pharoh's Judgement. (Elemental skill: 15 second cooldown.) When Futaba casts Pharoh's Judgement, Al Azif descends and deals Dendro DMG to nearby enemies. When Al Azif is on the field, all allies ATK, DEF and ATK SPD is increased by 20%, and their elemental DMG bonus is increased by 30%.

You can't leave again... okay? (Passive talent 1) When put in a team with Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi, Futaba increases all allies' CRIT Rate by 20% and their CRIT DMG by 60%, fueled by the desire to protect her family, found or biological.

Don't touch me! (Passive talent 2) When enemies are in the Restricted Zone, their DEF decreases by 30%.

TRIGGER WARNING: Non-con. Not in ANY DETAIL, just as speculation as to why Wakaba may have had Futaba. Just to explain the You can't leave again... okay? talent, there's a headcannon that Futaba's father is actually Shido since we never find out who he is. Since we know Wakaba worked with Shido at some point, and he cut off her research and forced Akechi into giving her a mental shutdown, it may have happened that he took advantage of her at some point, leading to Futaba. From what we know of her character, she didn't have a partner (barring Sojiro, but they weren't confirmed for a romantic relationship), so it makes sense that her conception of Futaba wasn't entirely of her own volition.

Also, the Al Azif thing was interesting to me because I did some digging on the P5 wiki and apparently Necronomicon was based on an Arab tome called Al Azif. And since we have Sumeru and the whole thing I added about Futaba being interested in Sumerian culture, I thought it might be fitting to put Al Azif in her abilities.

As you can tell from the very long and detailed skill and burst and the two passive talents I love Futaba!

Haru Okumura:

The daughter of the Takatsukasa clan (well now the Okumura clan) head, which was disgraced for manipulation of the Tenryou commission. She now is the new head, and needs to bring the clan back to its former glory in the wake of her father's misconduct. He dies in this world because an assassin from a rival clan wanted to end his political misconduct. I'd imagine she's friends with Ayaka. And I'm giving her an Electro vision because I think it fits her personality and her whole pinky purple thing going on with Milady.

Say hi to your new boss! (Elemental burst. Energy cost: 60). Haru summons 5 employees that deal Electro DMG. Two of them deal Electro DMG every 1.5 seconds, and three of them deal Electro DMG every 1 second. Each employee deals Electro DMG based on 50% of Haru's ATK, and decreases the opponents' Electro RES by 20%. The employees remain on-field, even when Haru is switched out.

Eat up! (Elemental skill. 7 second cooldown) Haru supplies party members with her home-grown vegetables, healing the party for 50% of Haru's ATK and increasing all allies' Electro DMG bonus and Electro CRIT DMG by 25%.

I'm stronger than you think. (Passive talent.) When her employees are on the field, enemies hit by their attacks have their DEF decreased by 10%.

The employees were based off Furina's lil gang when she summons her burst. They'd have pretty fast Electro application, but not enough to powercreep Fischl, since I think Haru fits into her own specific niche of buffing Electro units (RIP Kujou Sara).

Goro Akechi:

Laughs manically. It is my time. Scaramouche vibes here. But, instead of the Shogun, he could be a lil guy from one of Yae Miko's experiments who was abandoned and left to fend for himself ): He now holds resentment towards her (obviously) and his in rage, he gained the ability to access elemental powers without a vision, because he is also a wildcard! And since he doesn't have as many bonds as Akira or whatever, he can't access as many elements as Akira can, so I'm giving him Electro and Hydro. Electro (Loki) because of his pure, unfiltered rage and Hydro (Robin Hood) because of his sense of justice and kind façade he puts on to make himself seem likable. He got a respectable job at the Yashiro commission, and works closely with Ayato on diplomatic matters, all in hopes of becoming powerful enough to create checks and balances in Inazuma's government to take power away from th Guuji Yae and the Shogun.

Stop underestimating me. (Elemental burst, Electro. Energy cost: 90) Goro unleashes his rage and enters the Berserk state, draining 3% of his HP per attack hit on an enemy. In the Berserk state, all of his attacks have 100% CRIT rate, and 50% of his ATK is converted to Electro DMG bonus. In the Berserk state, he gains an enhanced Skill, which immobilises enemies for 5 seconds with a 7 second cooldown. Lasts for 20 seconds.

I suppose I'll comply. (Elemental burst, Hydro. Energy cost: 60) Due to his desire to be likable to others, Goro will unleash a Tidal Wave that hits all nearby enemies with a powerful burst of Hydro, decreasing all enemies' Hydro RES by 20%.

This will do. (Elemental skill, 7 second cooldown in Electro, 15 second cooldown in Hydro.) Allows Goro to switch between the Electro and Hydro elements. Once the skill is tapped, Goro floats above the battle and can see his enemies' positioning. In the air, he can either use a plunge attack or use his skill again, the plunge attack putting him into Electro mode, and the skill putting him into Hydro mode. In both elements, when coming back to the ground, Goro deals AoE Hydro/Electro DMG, pulling enemies close to him and paralysing them for 5 seconds. In Electro mode, once he does the plunge attack, he heals his own HP by 45% of his ATK. In Hydro mode, however, Goro will immediately consume 60% of his max HP and gain 60% CRIT Rate. His normal attacks will become infused with Hydro, and he will gain 45% Hydro DMG bonus. He will also be able to use his skill again to place down Robin Hood, who will deal Hydro DMG to all nearby opponents.

I'll carve my own path. (Passive talent 1) Every time Goro completes a 3-hit normal attack combo, ATK, Electro DMG bonus and Hydro DMG bonus increase by 15%.

I wish I'd met you sooner. (Passive talent 2) When put in a team with Akira and Futaba, Goro increases all party members' elemental mastery by 100 and can heal all party members for 40% of his attack once their HP falls below 50%.

Weapon: Lævateinn. Base ATK: 674. Secondary stat: CRIT DMG 44.1%. Passive: Increases Goro's resistance to interruption by 30%. Increases Goro's ATK and Elemental Mastery by 15% for 15 seconds every time he consumes his own HP.

Since both Hydro and Electro rely on reactions, I'd build him with EM on the sands, ATK on the goblet, and CRIT DMG circlet, since he gains a lot of CRIT Rate from the Berserk state, and from consuming his HP when he goes into Hydro form. Also I realised if you play him without a shield he'll get gigaknockbacked so I made him a weapon that fixes that in true Genshin fashion :) You can just play him with Sumire but you know i wanted to add the Loki reference.

Sumire Yoshizawa:

Famous Inazuman dancer perhaps? Her and her sister were a famous dance duo until the Vision Hunt Decree, where Kasumi was killed for not giving up her vision. After that, Sumire gained her own vision, never forgetting the feeling of powerlessness she felt at the face of her sister's death. Blames it on herself since she thought if she was strong enough, she could have saved her. Geo vision because I feel like it would signify brute strength in a moment where she felt powerless.

Get out of the way! (Elemental burst, Energy cost: 60) Fueled by the desire to protect her sister, after casting her elemental burst, Sumire will summon Cendrillon to deal AoE Geo DMG for 15 seconds. Sumire will also take 75% of the damage inflicted to the on-field character for 15 seconds, buffing their defence by 30% of Sumire's defence.

Let me handle it. (Elemental skill, 15 second duration, 15 second cooldown.) Sumire gives a Geo shield to the on-field character based on 40% of her DEF. The shield can stack up to 10x, and it gains a stack every time a crystallise reaction is triggered.

Dance, Cendrillon! (Passive talent 1) When Cendrillon is on the field, all allies' DEF increases by 10%.

Team ideas:

Ryuji Overloaded team: Ryuji, Ann, Morgana, Haru.

Ryuji as the on-field driver with Ann to do coordinated Pyro attacks to trigger overloaded. Haru to increase Ryuji's CRIT DMG and decrease enemies' Electro RES. Morgana to heal and crowd control so overloaded doesn't knock back enemies :)

Found family team: Goro, Akira, Futaba, Haru.

Haru isn't the found family but we have the biological siblings and the found one :)

Hyperbloom team with Goro as the hyperbloom trigger. His EM will be gigabuffed with Futaba, and he'd have an EM sands so hyperblooms should do good DMG. Dendro Akira for the bloom buff. Futaba to buff everyone beause I made her cracked, and she pairs well with Goro for the Aggravate triggers. And Haru to increase Goro's Electro DMG and shred enemy defence.

Variant of the team can also be played with Sumire for the shielding so Goro doesn't get destroyed since he consumes his own HP, but Haru would buff him a lot.

Freeze team: Yusuke, Hydro Akira, Morgana, Makoto.

Yusuke would be the team's main Cryo driver, while Makoto would be a quick-swap unit to apply Cryo for Morgana to swirl. Akira obviously does his hydro appliaction and summons a Mini-gana! (I love that name I'm sorry.)

Akira Goro vape team: Akira, Goro, Morgana, Sumire.

Akira in Pyro form would be used as the on-field driver. Goro's Robin Hood would then apply Hydro from off-field. Morgana for crowd control and healing and Sumire for interruption resistance.

Goro destroys the world team: Goro, Futaba, Haru, Sumire.

Literally just an aggravate team. Goro Electro form would be used, Futaba for the insane buffs and Dendro application, Haru to gigabuff Goro and Sumire for survivability :)

if you're comfortable, i would love to know more about the akechi npd headcanon. i think it's a rlly interesting take on his character and i wanna learn more abt npd bc i have bpd and ig im interested in what people experience with the other cluster b personality disorders? i just kinda wanna know why you think he has it and also maybe some of the mental stuff he has to experience with it. doesn't have to be detailed or personal i dont wanna make u uncomfy! i just cant stop thinking abt this hc haha :)

im actually on a mental health break right now, but this ask intrigued me so im answering it anyway. first off thank you for staying kind throughout the whole thing :)

its kind of hard for me to really describe why i think a character has/is something, because things like personality disorders are still a wide spectrum and every person experiences things differently, and i dont wanna make it seem like theres a one-way to have npd, but im gonna try anyway!

there is a site which helped me immensely throughout my self-diagnosis, so if you want to read more about the topic than what im gonna say here, here u go:

lets start simple and the thing that makes it most obvious to me: the engine room dialogue.

people with npd can heavily rely on other people for their self-esteem, because narcissists usually have a very low one. thats why they take on many tasks ("i was extremely particular about my life, my grades, my public image—so someone would want me around!") and might overwork themselves for more praise and acknowledgement ("you wanted to be acknowledged, didn't you? to be loved?") because its what they need to not constantly crash. a crash is something that happens when you dont get enough supply—which can be words of affection, praise, acknowledgement, etc—and you internalize it, doubt yourself, feel disgusting and generally you get to a really low point. this is just speculation, but i can see goro having a ton of those, especially during the time the phantom thieves get popular and he becomes public enemy nr 1. thats also why i drew him thinking "i really need supply rn but i'd rather die than ask for attention" because vulnerability is also a big thing people with npd can struggle with. we dont want to be seen as weak—our narcissism is essentially a shield, so we're seen as tough, when in reality, our egos can be very fragile.

one thing that the engine room makes very clear and also other interactions goro has with akira, is that hes very envious of others who have had it better than him. especially someone like akira, who was thrown away by society just like he was, was able to move past it, found friends and is acknowledged by many people. goro is jealous of it all, and thats the thing; people with npd can feel like they're supposed to be special ( and to me, with goro explaining how he got his personas, and how he often calls others stupid, its clear that he does feel that way about himself to a certain degree ) and anyone who threatens that status, anyone who seems much more special than we are is seen as a legitimate threat. its an ugly feeling and it can make us hate even those we love for some time.

this attributes to dysregulation of our emotions too. people with npd often feel their emotions, especially negative ones, way more intense than they actually should be and have difficulty calming down due to that. negative emotions often linger for a long period of time and its hard to move on so we hold grudges. now this might come to no surprise to anyone that goro is a very angry and sad person. especially in the engine room its clear that even after the others extend their hands out to him, its difficult for him to comprehend and he still acts rather mean and calls them idiots for trying to "save" him. when someone with npd is experiencing a multitude of negative emotions, it may cause them to avoid other people or act aggressive towards them because they feel trapped. theres many explanations as to why goro is the way he is in the 3rd semester, and i dont think only one of them has to be correct, but i do think that with the knowledge of whats happening ( like: being under the control of someone else again, or having to work with people who are unpredictable and who have seen you at your lowest point ) makes him act out to keep all of them, especially akira, at bay.

in the duel against akira—im sorry i cant really quote it, i just have a general idea of it in my head rn—i read what he says in a way that makes it clear that he struggles with a superiority AND inferiority complex, which sounds stupid at first i know, but its fairly easy to explain. like i already said, a narcissist's self-esteem is usually pretty low and we rely on others to know how to feel about ourselves. theres two traits of npd that are necessary traits to have: being self-centered and feeling entitled to good treatment, and seeking admiration from others/liking to be the center of attention. so there is some kind of superiority complex going on, at least thats what i would call it in goro's ( and my ) case. we can feel on top of the world in one moment, but once we have a crash or experience intense negative emotions, its back to being the worst human being on earth. i dont think its ooc to say that goro hates himself, as some like to claim he only ever thinks hes better than everyone else. i think that just attributes to harmful stigma. with everything goro experiences in life, coping with narcissism to hide a fragile sense of being just makes sense to me.

theres more i could probably add here but this thing is long enough as is. please do keep in mind that many of my headcanons for goro are me projecting—but that doesnt mean theres no basis for it in canon as well, as i've tried to explain here. at first i actually thought he could have bpd, but i dont know enough about it to really judge that—so it could still very well be that, or both, i dont really know how it works! im rather new to this as well, and at first i was scared of doing any research because npd is so heavily stigmatized. i wish there were more people like you, anon.

You dont wanna train? - Toju and Akira fanfic

hm I wonder how this will happen •v•

Akira wakes up at her usual time of 5:45am and rolls out of bed. Tired as she is, she is very used to getting up and trainig this early in this morning. After-all, she's been doing it for a year or so every day. As she gets up and gets dressed in her uniform and Haori she starts to think of something. For the past 2 months of having her Tsuguko, Toju, in the house with her along with his little sister Katsu she has been paying very close attention to his every move. Akira is very observant and her hearing is equal to that of Zenitsu, so she practically knows everything that goes on in her mansion. She thinks back to how Toju sounds different around Her than around Katsu and other visitors to her mansion. For a while she just thought it was because she was his mentor, but after hearing Obani talking to Misturi and listening to the complete change in his sound she was beginning to think it was something else. Her thoughts continue as she heads down for breakfast with Katsu. Akira... can't cook. Not at all.. everytime she tried to cook it just ended up in flames, literally. Katsu prepared all the meals in the household to prevent it from being burned down by Akira. Katsu is placing the plates onto the table when Akira comes downstairs and enters the kitchen.

"Good morning Akira! I made some yummy breakfast for me, you and Toju." Katsu says excitedly while running over to give her a big soft hug.

"Good morning katsu." She responded with a soft and warm smile to greet her sister. "It smells amazing in here."

they both sit down at the table and wait for Toju to arrive. Sometimes he gets up a little late since he isn't used to getting up quite this early, though he has never missed breakfast even once and is always up by the time training is set to start. Sometimes Toju and Katsu will train with Akira together, but other times it's just him. Toju enjoys Katsu's company during training, but he prefers his time alone with Akira more. After about 7 minutes Akira starts to feel like something is up. He's never been this late to breakfast before, and she wonders if something happened.

"Hey, Katsu, you can start eating without me. Im gonna go check up on Toju" she says.

"alrighty. Ill warm your food up for when you get back." Katsu replies.

Akira gets up from the table and heads back upstairs where all the bedrooms are. She heads down the hallway, past her room, past Katsu's room, and finally reaches the room that Toju is staying in. She waits a second before knocking on his door. Akira listens to see if he is up or not. When a person is sleeping they give off a different sound than when they are awake. From what she hears it sounds like hes not fully sleeping, but definitely not awake. She knocks loudly on the door but gets no response. After about a minute she knocks for a second time. Still no answer.

"Toju? Are you up?" Akira asks through the door.

-silence-

She sighs, then slowly opens the door. Once the door is open, it reveals a covered up Toju still sleeping in his bed. Akira walks over to him and gently taps on his forehead to attempt to wake him up. When he doesn't respond for the third time Akira decides to just hit him in the arm. Though, as she is about to do it, he finally stirs a little and starts to wake up a bit. She gently taps him once more and then waits for him to open his eyes. When Toju finally opens his sleepy blue eyes, he sees Akira knelt down next to his bed. He jolts up and looks somewhat embarrassed as she just gives that blank expression with her eyebrows slightly raised.

"Ah! Shit- how long was I asleep for..?" He asks still in a frazzled state of mind.

"well your about 15 minutes late to breakfast.. do probably a while." Akira answers, "did you even wake up when the crowd called that it was time??"

"..oh.. well yea I did wake up.. but I shut my eyes and layed back down for a minute and-" he looks down at the floor, "Im sorry Sakuranbura-san"

"Just get up and get dressed now, breakfast is on the table. Katsu is heating ours back up." Akira says, slightly annoyed.

"Yes ma'am" Toju replies.

"Oh- and Toju, I told you just to call me Akira. I really don't like being called so formally."

"Oh yea right. Sorry Akira."

Akira leaves the room now and shuts the door. She waits for a minute as she listens to Toju. So she was right then, he sounds just like Obani did. Toju is still sitting there trying to comprehend what just happened. His face is still somewhat red from the sight of Akirs next to his bed. Akira heard him finally get up and begin to get dressed, and she heads back downstairs to rejoin Katsu for breakfast. A few moments after she sits back down and gets her food, Toju comes slowly and sluggishly down the stairs to the table. Akira just looks up at him, still in the same expressionless look with her eyebrows raised. he sits down at the table and thanks Katsu for the breakfast. Akirs notices the exhaustion lines under his eyes are somewhat darker than before. Had he not been sleeping?

"You seem pretty worn out today, Toju.. are you alright? Do you want me to go get Ushuu from the butterfly mansion?" Katsu starts saying kinda frantically.

"Im alright, Katsu.. Thank you though." He responds.

Akira is still watching him as they all eat their breakfast. Once finished, Akira puts her plate away then waits for the others to finish as well. Akira has always been a fast eater, so she often has to wait a little while afterwards for the other two to finish their food. A couple of minutes go by and they are finally done. Akira looks at Toju and kinda just says like 'its time to train get up' with her eyes. She is standing there, arms crossed with her same expression. Toju gets up and walks over to her, but instead of following her out to the training grounds he asks her a question.

"Akira.. could we do something besides train today..?"

Akira looks back at him with a confused look and just says, "why."

"im still pretty exhausted from this weeks, and it's been nonstop for 2 months with the exception of missions."

"Yes im aware." She blatantly responded.

"Could I please just get even one day to rest? Ill even go run errands instead."

"We are going to train today Toju."

Akira is not giving in one bit. It goes on like this for a few minutes before Akira finally turns fully around and starts to walk back to him. As she walks closer to him with an intimidating look on her face, Toju starts to backup away from her. This tiny girl is now driving Toju back into the wall. He hits the wall with a thud and Akira continues to walk over to him now that he has no where else to backup. Toji just so happened to end up right next to a pile of big heavy book stacked up next to him on the floor. Akira sees the books and gets a devilish Idea. This is most likely not going to turn out as you think she might be thinking. Akira now has Toju pinned down to the wall. Pinned down again.. Toju has a habit of ending up like this a lot. Akira, the tiny girl, pinning down Toju, the big muscular man. Its a sight to see. She looks up at Toju and gives him a little smirk before pushing the pile of books in front of him with her foot. Toju has no idea what she is doing, but just stays there not daring to move a muscle. Akira can be very scary sometimes and it's best not to move. She steps up on the books making herself now almost the same heights has him.

"You dont wanna train?" She says to him in a sarcastic tone.

He doesn't respond, but looks somewhat scares now.

She releases her grip on his arms and now grabs onto his shirt and scarf. Toju's heart was beginning to pound faster now with the increased proximity between them.

"Im very observant you know.. I know everything that goes on in this mansion." She states. "I have incredible hearing and I watch everything."

Toju doesn't know where this is going, but he still stays in the same spot not moving an inch.

Akira leans in a little closer now. She hears his heart pounding even faster now, and his cheeks begin to turn a little but pink.

She smirks up at him and states, "You think I don't realize? As I said. I know everything"

He begins to understand what she means and his face goes even more red.

"Don't think I haven't realized your attraction towards me~ I hear your heart rate increase every time Im near to you, I can sense the attraction you have towards me. I know you act differently with other people than you do with me." Akira smirks.

"I-" Toju tries to say before being cut off by Akira again.

"You know.. You're very attractive yourself Toju." She looks up at him

'Wait.. huh?' He thinks 'What does this have to do with me not wanting to train..? What is this girl planning..'

Akira pulls his chest closer to her, still maintaining her grip on his shirt and scarf.

"You asked for this.." She says in a low voice.

suddenly it makes sense to him now. She got him to hit the wall next to the books for a reason.. 'Smart little bitch-' he thinks.

Since Akira is so much shorter than Toju, she would need something to raise herself up with. Then, in an instant, she moved in and kissing him right on the lips. She gives him a long, soft, warm kiss. His heart is racing now. Then she pulls away again and steps off the books. he looks down at her as if asking for more.

Akira smirks at him, "Want more do you? Well then get out here and start training."

Her plan worked incredibly. Toju decided that he would go out and train with her now motivated by that kiss, and his attraction towards her. Akira is a smart and sly little Hashira, shes always one step ahead.

"If you do well, then maybe you'll have more kisses coming your way~ better work hard now." She teases and walks away, still with that same little smirk on her face.

She walks a few steps, then turns back around for a second.

"I win~" Akira says in a low tone.

She gives him the most devilish look yet. Tongue out, eyes narrowed, looking over her shoulder at him as she walks away to the training ground. Toju has a new found respect for this woman, even more than he already did.

'damn.. she's insane' He thinks to himself as he follows after her to go train.
