Lupin is the perfect teacher, able to come up with imaginative but useful ways for his students to learn the material. He makes D.A.D.A fun and useful, since he knows the students need to remember the material to make themselves safe. He focuses on the larger picture at all times, which can be both an asset (in his ability to stay focused, and help Harry keep a clear head) and a liability (when he allows fear and guilt to take over his life and he runs away from Tonks and his baby). His intuitiveness gives him an edge when it comes to problem-solving and discerning who is trustworthy; he quickly realizes the truth about Sirius, with only one piece of evidence (how can a dead man be walking around Hogwarts?). Lupin is harsh with Harry about certain aspects of his behavior, since he can foresee the negative consequences of his recklessness. His inferior Se causes him to be occasionally impulsive and reckless – Harry says he runs around, trying to block Tonks during the battle. Being around his friends stimulated Lupin and helped him feel alive and happy – he could be reckless when with the Marauders. He is observant of his students and mindful of changes in their behavior. His practicality keeps him grounded, but his tendency to live in the moment during dark times means he wallows in misery and makes impetuous decisions – like running away from his loved ones out of fear and self-loathing.

He was so eager to be liked by his friends that Lupin stood back and allowed them to torment Snape. His utter devotion to Dumbledore makes him trust him implicitly, even going so far as to be kind to Snape and give him the benefit of the doubt when all evidence indicates he isn’t to be trusted. Lupin likes to see the best in people and give them a chance to defend themselves. He abandons his position at school out of concern for his students and their parents’ opinions. He is so fearful that he might endanger his child, or fail to be a good father, that he abandons his duties and it takes Harry reminding him of that to bring him back again. His ability to think outside the box makes him a good teacher and clever in his ideas. Lupin is good at problem-solving and seeing the inconsistencies both in his own behavior and that of others. He’s curious about the world, a natural bookworm, but also rational in his advice (being angry with Harry for risking his life and the lives of his friends).

Much like Hermione, Lupin must overcome his own lack of courage and find his true courage – in being all right with who he is, and in standing up for what is right. He handles the difficulties of being a werewolf with courage, despite his fear. He must learn to stand up to his friends.

Lupin is cautious and distrustful. He does not like to take risks, and chastises Harry for doing the same. His reasoning for abandoning his loved ones is that they are “safer” with him not around. He does what he feels is best, irregardless of consulting others (5), but also feels a strong need to fit in and not fight his friends in their abuse of Snape, fearing abandonment from them. He has a push-pull relationship with authority, placing total trust in Dumbledore (until it’s shook up later in the books) and by extension, also trusting Snape. Under stress, he runs away from his problems and becomes unavailable to his family (7 disintegration), he can also become aggressive in trying to protect others in the heat of battle.

Dang I am sorry I forgot to send this in my last ask what’s your opinion on Leo and Raph’s dynamic now that’s my favorite because I see them as two sides of the same coin

i mean, i know it's a LAME answer, but just like i don't have a favorite turtle out of the four, i don't really have a favorite dynamic combination either? i love how each of the brothers interact with each other in their own ways, the little inside jokes or stupid things they must have.

when it comes to leo and raph's interactions and dynamic, specifically, i frickin' adore them and i think there're a ton of unspoken--but understood--layers to not only how they interact under pressure but also how they interact when they're just existing casually in the same space.

i want to preface this part with: i am... VERY MUCH not one to adhere to birth order when it comes to the '03 boys, i personally don't jive with that approach to any of them. we don't know their birth order, they don't know their birth order. it's not important, or something i consider or use, when i write or think about them.

in the case of raph and leo, i think they exhibit behaviors you'd normally associate to the "older sibling" because that's just who they are as people. they're both capable of leading, they're active problem-solvers, they have a strong impulse and desire to help the people around them and especially those who're less able to protect themselves, and have just... unfathomable love and loyalty to those in their inner circles. like you said: two sides of the same coin. and i think @/kobbers said it damn near perfectly when she said "their conflicts usually come down to how they want to approach their goal, not on which goal to approach".

it's that "sharing of the coin" that cultivates those unspoken, but understood, layers in their relationship. raph's the one who seeks leo out after the events of The Shredder Strikes Back when he's moping in the barn, and he's also the one who recognizes leo has steam to blow off in I, Monster. the series, unfortunately, doesn't give us a lot of raph-specific conflict to work with--which i will die mad about--but when acknowledging that he needs fun and relaxation, raph is the brother leo brings up. he feels secure enough to be a little goofier and stupider around raph, too, like calling him "snail-boy" when they're racing. these may not be "heavier" character moments, but i still think they're worth a lot.

another cute little detail--and i gestured at this in raph's enneagram post with some uncertainty, but thanks to @/paperlifted's turtle by any other name series i get to say "i was right!"--is that raph is the only brother who ever refers to leo by his 'fearless leader' nickname or even refers to him as a leader at all. series side-material often points out that leo's the 'unofficial leader'; his brothers more choose to follow him because he steps up, guides them, and they trust him. raph is also capable of leading, but i think he recognizes and respects that leo usually has the more level-head. raph is more the guy who yells "what do you need????" across the battlefield and then makes it happen, no matter what he has to do. and leo can trust that he will.

and... again, if i may slap my conspiracy board on the wall and gesture at it enthusiastically? i think raph's use of "fearless leader" is less... calling-leo-a-leader or putting-this-responsibility-on-him, i think it's just. a simple. callback? to when they'd play follow the leader as kids. ...because they still play it in-series as older teenagers.

MBTI || Atlas is an INTJ-A and Alastair is an INTJ-T.

The INTJ-A (or “Architect”) personality is characterized by being introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging, making them strategic, analytical, and independent thinkers who value logic and systems.

The INTJ-T (or “Turbulent”) personality is characterized by being success-driven, perfectionistic, and eager to improve, often noticing small problems and striving for constant improvement.

💯 —

Atlas is very musically inclined. He plays the guitar and the drums, and later on joins a band with Kokoa and Kau’i. They have frequent gigs and for a while it’s his one source of employment throughout everything.

He loves junk food. His favourite type of food is surprisingly McDonalds, as that’s what he first tried after getting out of Eden for the first time.

Atlas is obsessed with movies. Although he’s not very media literate (what being apart of a cult all your life will do to you), he loves watching them for fun. Some of his favourites are old cheesy rom-coms, something you’d least expect from the hardened soldier.

Alastair cannot handle spicy foods at all. He’s someone who has only ever eaten food from the church and the orphanage so he has built up no tolerance. Wren had him try a hot cheeto once and he almost cried and gagged on it for a minute straight.

Thinks dogs are really cool. He’s never seen one in real life before though.

He developed no hobbies outside of studying files in the archives so when he leaves the church, he finds himself unable to pass the time and tends to spiral in his own thoughts. This often results in panic attacks but he doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of Atlas and Wren and so he hides his face in his shirt and holds in his own breaths until he’s gagging and shaking.

Atlas and Alastair both have a myriad of mental issues/disabilities. A large part of their arc revolves around this, and it’s something that the both of them have to overcome over the course of the story.

Atlas is formally diagnosed with both c-PTSD and PTSD, resulting from extreme trauma throughout his childhood and the result of living through a war, and becoming a prisoner to Eden. He is also diagnosed with amnesia from brain damage when he is 18, something that affects him for many years after the fact. Because of his brain damage he is also very susceptible to concussions and migraines, and especially sensitive to light. This grows worse as he ages.

Atlas was also written to be autistic-coded, although he doesn’t ever recieve an “official” diagnosis for it.

Alastair is diagnosed with depression by the time he is about 23, although it was something he struggled with for most of his life. He also deals with heavy suicidal ideation by the time he is 21, and it only becomes worse as time wears on. Alastair, although never formally diagnosed, is selectively mute, something which he’s had to deal with since he was about 5-years-old. He develops agoraphobia in his early 20’s as well, something that dictates his life for a long time.

Overall Alastair deals with a lot of mental health issues, although he doesn’t actually get a name for a lot of them. Like Atlas, he is meant to be autistic-coded, though he is also OCD and anxiety coded, and could be read as having paranoia. And as a result of the war, he does deal with PTSD symptoms.

tldr; atlas and alastair are extremely mentally ill and do NOT have the time to deal with it

Atlas and Alastair also end up with quite a few physical disabilities, as result of living through a war.

Atlas ends up losing his right arm when he is 18, and wears a prosthetic for the rest of his life. He also suffers from nerve damage in his right hand, having very bad grip control and frequently experiencing tremors. His vocal cords suffer a lot of damage from the electric collar he was forced to wear at Eden, and he ends up losing his left eye, later wearing a prosthetic. Overall his body ends up pretty damaged by the time the war is over, and he deals with chronic pain for the rest of his life.

Alastair struggles with extreme chronic pain post-canon. He loses his left leg near the end of the war, as well as suffers severe burns to the left side of his face which renders him blind in that eye. His body never fully recovers from the injuries that he sustains while in the final battle circa 2043.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever fully went into depth with what exactly their powers are, but both of them are Magicus, which means they were born with a power.

Atlas has power absorption. He can mimic others abilities and use them as his own. While this is ability is activated the other person’s power is weaker than it usually would be. In some examples he can mimic physical abilities of humans as well, which in turn drains their energy. And while his power is in use, his eyes glow.

Alastair has void. He is able to change the mass of his body into literal shadow. While in his shadow form, he can see everything — time, space, the makeup of the universe itself.

Although they both have powers, their ideologies when it comes to magic contrasts greatly.

Atlas sees nothing wrong with his powers, having been raised in an environment where it was normalized. He frequently had to train using his power, and activating it is like something as simple as breathing to him. He uses it almost every day as it gives him an advantage on the battlefield, and isn’t afraid to use it if it means winning a fight or completing his mission.

Alastair, on the other hand, doesn’t want anything to do with his powers. He hates using them — refuses to do so, actually. He has sworn to himself that he won’t become like what everyone else had thought of him. He doesn’t have really any control over them because of this, and is not nearly as experienced as Atlas is. He views his powers as more of a curse than a gift, opposite of Atlas.

(Ironic, considering Atlas comes from Eden, which is strict about magic and thinks it’s something to be controlled, not used. While Alastair comes from the Congregation, which is proud about their status as Magicae.)

Today I wanna talk about a typology gold mine.

Silent planet's Everything was Sound (2016). Named after the C. S. Lewis Novel "Out of the silent planet", this band will excite any and all bookworms with an open mind and the will to try on a new music genre. This is a concept album that follows a person who enters a panopticon, a prison where nine subjects with an assigned enneagram type are studied. I'm very excited for this, so let's dive right in.

Inherit the earth: "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" Matthew 5:5. We find a protagonist, a Fool of no name drifting in the woods. In these woods, he finds a hidden panopticon, seemingly under the earth : "I'd wonder upon this grave then fall, I'd fall inside". With only a diary on him "With nothing to show but a rain stained book containing my literary charades... New blots of ink, archetypal shapes and shades bleed through each and every page" he begins to explore a prison so impressive it seems like a miracle: "I wandered upon the altar of human invention, an exhibition of erudition. Find me here, son of man. How far we fall". He's ready to listen to nine soul touching stories.

Psychescape: “I think that I’m a better problem-solver because of my schizophrenia. When you have to question reality every single day, I think that makes you change how you view the world.” Cecilia McGough. The first subject is enneagram six, with the Magician archetype. It's a person suffering from schizophrenia. They introduce the protagonist to the cruel hand played on them: "Oh fragile mind, you will learn how to fracture". They begin describing their experience as a bizzare mix of suffering and enchantment "Follow me, I'll take you to the edge of reason. Fall with me, we'll make a home in our delusion". Their mind is a unique mix of fragments with no exit. A trap with a fascinating tale to tell anyone who wants to hear. They have a spark in their eyes, a childlike wonder with a vision to change the world, yet are trapped inside their own head: "I'd change the world but I'm chained to myself". Trapped inside their own head, unable to cause any change in the world and themselves.

Dying in circles: "We loathe the church, not its poison. Apart from the church, we too love the poison". Friedrich Nietzsche. The second subject is enneagram two, a god loving prisoner of their own worship, and of the Saint archetype. Motivated by their love for people, they followed the commands of Jesus, finding shelter. But as he goes on, he describes his worship and community to be violent, critical, legalist, bloodthirsty: "Water poured out, but we want wine". What should be a loving, altruistic, humanitarian way of life is filled with violence, spite, and feelings of having desecrated their God with disappointment. "The image of God is sleeping on the ground". But the worst part is that they probably also see themselves in their counterparts' violent approach to faith. "When you fell to your knees to wash my feet, did you see the trampled shadows stained underneath?". Trapped under the altar of a God forsaken by His own believers.

Understanding love as loss: "When they're so alone they find a backdoor out of life. You know you're not the only one" Amy Lee. The third prisoner is enneagram four, of the Creator archetype. A (very relatably so) sufferer of depression. They live their every day regretting of living, never finding warmth or shelter, or joy. Not necessarily bc they aren't surrounded by loving people, but because their soul is so sick they struggle to feel any joy, or love, ever. "Searching for solace in a toxic temple, servants of lead climbing through your head". As if trapped in a room, sitting still, watching their own body, mind, heart collapse through a window. Scared and with no control left, they are even more scared that going outside, finding help, isn't even worthy, or possible. They can't express how it feels to die before everyone's eyes every day "Floundering in a state of metaxis, one is waning, one is dead; In both we feel too much". It feels like everyone simply lives their life without them. Stained by thoughts that they are a breathing burden to them, only capable of causing pain. And yet, they express love constantly. "Intricate: I watched the world dance inside your head [...] misery: losing hope for a dying world, or did we lose hope in ourselves, my ineffable?". They speak to someone describing them as a miracle too great to be spoken; ineffable. The last thing that they do is very scarily lament about them with love: "you were my ineffable". Not going to be trapped for long.

Tout comprendre: "To understand all..." there's nothing but silence here. The archetype of the ruler is sitting on the center. Ruling over the subjects, watching them, letting them die. With the visitor of the panopticon already very shaken. As if the people there are little toys, not to be played with, but collected, observed, locked.

Panic room: "S... O... S... Help... Me...". Johnny got his gun. Next in the front lines is enneagram five, of the hero/warrior archetype. A soldier. A disposable hero. By the lyrics, it seems like he's fidgeting, repeating words (which is called echolalia): "Tap tap tap, the window glass... My disconnected self... Self... It's self consuming". He is trapped in a dark room, panicking, watching through the window on the other side of the room. He is haunted by atrocities of war he was unfortunately a part of. He recalls atrocities that are too haunting to anyone who is around to listen. He recalls being shaken by the fact that he, in self defense took a life: "I took a life that takes mine". Laid inside a homeless nest, all the darkness comes alive, it drags him to the void. Trapped inside his memories.

RedivideЯ: "Mania starts off fun—not sleeping for days, keeping company with your brain, which has become a wonderful computer, showing 24 TV channels all about you. That goes horribly wrong after a while." Carrie Fisher. The next subject is enneagram seven, a Seeker, a person with bipolar disorder. All the lyrics here are perfectly palindrome, just like the title of the song. Best part? The palindrome mirroring happens to the perfect middle of the song: "I did, didn't I? I didn't, did I?". On top of the world, they feel big. Unstoppable. And unforgiving. "there is me, forgiving nothing, manic then depressive". They are perfectly symbolically split in half. "Sister moon, brother sun". The other half is small, weak, helpless, meek. "Depressive then manic, nothing forgiving me, is there...?". Trapped in switching between feeling like a god and feeling helpless in the face of god.

Nervosa: "I starved myself to feel in control, only to find myself losing control of everything" Unknown speaker. Next is enneagram three, a lover "I am haunted by a nonexistent lover; the specter, the ghost, the soul starving host", a sufferer of anorexia. "Look straight through me, look at the nightmare, behold your child, perfection; a rotting shell of atrophy". One of the most haunting stories. One that my family knows of. I have no words, I'll just let the song speak of its own greatness: "I am not my own reflection, I am not myself. I am not myself! No! I was gifted with the vision, but cursed to be the witness... Invisible to me...". A person haunted by their mirror, and trapped in a depleted body.

C'est Tout pardonner: "... Is to forgive all". The second half of the quote that inspired Garrett Russell to write this album. The archetype of the Innocent is floating inside the prison, seemingly liberating mentally the prisoners, maybe the visitor too.

Orphan: "Until my city stops crying, do not ask me to wipe away my tears." Moe Moussa. Next in the front line is enneagram nine, a simple Orphan, as the title suggests. Plagued by war, this orphan simply calls for action. "Singing songs of life, when all we know is death". Wherever you live, do not forget to help victims of war in any way you can. Donate, speak about it, protest. Just do something in your power. "Love will take hold","If love's a sin, I'll become a heretic". Let love take hold. Help those who are trapped in genocide. #freepalestine

No place to breathe: "Δεν έχω οξυγόνο" (=I have no oxygen) Tempi train disaster slogan. Second to last, this Rebel is of enneagram eight, and speaks of their own shackles, fascism. Reflecting the band's merch, the dear rebel says: "Make every breath a protest in a world where your neighbors cannot breathe". Do not forget to protest, people. There are many things to protest against, many causes to fight for. Just look around you. You are trapped in a world where your neighbors cannot breathe.

First father: "She's the soul of my soul." A father in Palestine who lost his daughter. This Sage and Hero speaks of death. One of the most universal pains. One that haunts me, my friends, my family, and my family's friends right now. The last subject, the enneagram one, seems to be a priest, or a religious leader of some sorts: "I'm a priest afraid to pray". He has been a harsh and legalist leader, but reformed after his loss: "You pulled me through time, to the edgeless night, I learned to love as you learned to die! I'll begin to feel again, and finish the chapter you couldn't write". "Candles in the dark, defiant to the night and shadow". He self admittedly struggles to feel for others, as his harsh inner critic dooms everyone involved. "Tongue tethered to the skeptic beating in my chest". But he wants to change. He will. Even if he's trapped in grief.

Inhabit the wound: "We inherit the earth, we inherit the war. I inhabit the wound, I dwell on the harm." Garrett Russell. The outro song is one of my favorites. Slowly but surely, they shake free from their prison. They gather around him. "The earth with a final gasp shook free from our inventions". "Nine lovers stumbled out from their shells of brokenness, they reached inside their roots to find the seeds born from their suffering". Now that they are free, they have one mission: To "Plant the tree of life inside the heart of the Machine". They only have one thing to cry out to the world: "REACH INSIDE! HEAL THE WOUND! MAKE US WHOLE!".

I adore this album. I was so fascinated to find out it revolves around the enneagram. The music, the storyline, it's just so theatrical, and I love it. It really became a part of me. Give it a listen. Infinity out of ten.

Pre-game

Early life

Fenton was born and grew up in the Underdark city of T’lindhet, Great Bhaerynden. His mother was a Lolthsworn drow, the first daughter of the minor House Del’yviir, and his father was a human slave who was executed before Fenton was born. He had four older half-siblings (3 sisters, 1 brother), all full drow.

Being a bastard, half-human AND male, Fenton was dealt the shittest hand possible in drow society. The first two decades of his life were miserable. He was essentially imprisoned and enslaved by his own family, enduring pretty much every kind of abuse, most of it from his mother.

From early childhood Fenton had regular hallucinations. He would see flashes of blood and gore where there was none, and hear voices telling him to commit unspeakable violence. But these barely fazed him; they were an almost pleasant retreat from the horrible reality of his life. He already hated everyone around him so much his Urge to kill them felt pretty appropriate, actually (like that one text post, "demonic possession wouldn’t even affect me, with all the other shit I got going on").

The first time Fenton saw Bhaal was the night before he turned 25. He’d just been locked into his room after a bad beating, and was lying half-conscious in his own blood. Bhaal appeared to him as a reflection in the blood and told him that the next day he would wake up with arcane powers, and he must use these to free himself, travel to the Surface and seek the temple of Bhaal where he would “fulfil his destiny”. Fenton had never heard of Bhaal at this point, and initially assumed he was just delirious from blood loss, but the small possibility that this was real -- that someone was watching over him, that he might have a real purpose -- was too tantalising to ignore.

Fenton woke the next morning feeling like a new person. Where he should have been sore and weak from last night, he felt impossibly strong and deeply in touch with magic, like he could reach into the Weave and pull out whatever he wanted. His Urge was also amplified tenfold, to the point of compulsion, like his actions were entirely automatic. The exact events that led to Fenton escaping home were mostly a blur, except the memory of killing his mother, which remained crystal clear (best moment of his life).

Now convinced that a god really had spoken to him, Fenton found his way to the Surface and spent the next few years searching for Bhaal’s temple. At first he was incredibly maladjusted, couldn’t speak a word of Common and didn’t really know how to interact with people. But he picked up the social skills and language surprisingly quickly, and discovered he was actually quite extroverted. He’d spent so long with no one to talk or turn to, he was now desperate for interaction in any and all forms. Fenton genuinely liked the Surface folk and tried to integrate himself. He was still subjected to prejudice for his obvious drow heritage, but it was a cakewalk compared to his treatment in the Underdark. He ditched his birth name and started calling himself “Fenton” after the first name he saw written on a poster on the outskirts of Baldur’s Gate.

Fenton became increasingly gregarious throughout his time on the Surface, seeking friends and lovers in everyone he met. This devolved into an unhealthy spiral of toxic, short-lived relationships that always ended with him either getting distracted and abandoning the other person, or getting too intense and scaring them off. And as a side effect of his promiscuity, he got involved in petty crime and other generally ill-advised behaviour. Fenton lost sight of his mission to find Bhaal for a couple years, quieting his Urge with recreational substances, bar fights, unsafe sex and the like.

Cult of Bhaal

Fenton eventually discovered the temple pretty much by accident during a drunken wander through the sewers. But once the cult found him and took him in, it didn’t take much to get him back on board with the whole Bhaalspawn thing. He was just happy to be part of a community. The ritualistic butchering of innocents was a worthwhile trade for a supportive family (“Look Daddy, I slaughtered all these people for you! Are you proud of me? Do you love me? Tell me I’m good!”)

During his ~45 years in Bhaal’s cult, Fenton continued to lead a pleasure-driven lifestyle. He gained notoriety among Bhaalists for his “murder parties” and “murder orgies” which were exactly what they sound like. But through all of this Fenton never lost touch with his emotions. He could be incredibly affectionate in his fucked up way. Fenton loved Orin like a sister, and was utterly oblivious to her envy of his power. Later, Fenton and Gortash became fuckbuddies close friends while working on the Absolute plot. (Fenton even tried it on with Ketheric once, without success)

During game

Although Fenton lost his memories after the Orin incident, his personality was mostly unchanged. The Urges were a little disconcerting at first, but they were also familiar, weirdly comforting.

Fenton warmed up quickly to the rest of the party. Despite being kind of a weirdo, he was almost charmingly pathetic and an endless supply of comic relief, making him relatively likeable on a surface level. And he remained horny as ever, sleeping with half the camp by the end of Act 1. Minthara was his proudest lay (he helped her slaughter the Grove purely because he had a crush on her), but when she left for Moonrise, Astarion got his claws in him, and Fenton fell hard and never looked back.

Fenton and Astarion were an obvious match (chaotic evil, traumatised, slutty gayboys with a thing for blood). The only stark difference between them was, unlike Astarion, Fenton had zero sense of pride or shame. Nothing was below him. He’d lick a stranger’s shoe for a pat on the head. And this made him extra vulnerable to exploitation. (Not that he was naive or gullible per se -- more that he was so desperate, he’d knowingly let himself be exploited in pursuit of intimacy.) Ofc Astarion took full advantage of basically having his own simpy little attack dog following him around.

Fenton embraced his Urges throughout most of the game events. Being a good Bhaalspawn was simple early on, since Astarion generally approved of murder and the like. But gradually tensions arose as Bhaal and Astarion each became more possessive and controlling, and Fenton tried frantically to please them both. In Act 3, Fenton helped Astarion ascend, and agreed to become his slave consort, but he also accepted Bhaal’s charge after defeating Orin. In his desperation, he failed to realise that these two destinies were incompatible.

(Sidenote: by this point he is Slayer, half-illithid, and a vampire spawn. That PLUS being a half-drow on the Surface = literally the most fucked up little freak you’ve ever seen. But Fenton likes being a freak, he likes being different because that’s all he’s ever known. Anyway)

Fenton’s plan was to take joint control of the Netherbrain with Astarion, use it to take over the world, and eventually enact Bhaal’s will. But once he had the Netherstones and was ready to dominate the brain, Bhaal spoke to him at the last second, and told him that in order to prove his loyalty, he would be compelled to kill Astarion as the very first sacrifice of his new reign. This was exactly the opposite of what Sceleritas had told him (that he could “keep” his lover if he killed everyone else). Fenton realised he’d been played. If he obeyed his Father, he’d have to lose the one person he didn’t want to kill. The reward for his service to Bhaal was to be alone forever. In that moment, he saw too many similarities between Bhaal and his late mother, and the need to rebel overpowered all else. So he destroyed the Netherbrain -- not for any heroic reason, but out of blind indignation. To him, saving Baldur’s Gate from illithid armageddon was an unfortunate side effect of pursuing his own catharsis.

Fenton told Astarion what had happened, and while Astarion was a little annoyed that Fenton had destroyed their chances with the brain, he also empathised with the feeling of being used, and admired Fenton for rebelling for once instead of just letting himself be trodden all over as usual. Unfortunately, this would all be for nothing. Bhaal was PISSED and determined to make this everyone’s problem.

Post-game

After game events, Fenton went to live with Astarion in the Szarr palace. It went okay for a while. That was until Fenton started getting blackouts and episodes of crazed, insatiable violence that he had zero control over, and these became increasingly frequent and intense. He would attack everyone and everything in sight, including Astarion. Bhaal was wreaking havoc on Fenton’s sanity to such an extent that Astarion couldn’t even compel his spawn to behave, and was eventually forced to keep him locked up and even chained up for hours, days at a time. Fenton was back in captivity, back to the cruel isolation he knew so well.

With Astarion ascending toward vampiric royalty and Fenton descending into madness, their relationship grew increasingly cold and toxic until there was very little real affection left. Astarion eventually tired of the thankless burden his consort had become, and one night he had his other spawn forcibly remove Fenton from the palace and dump him in an alleyway at the other end of the city.

Fenton is a tragic character, and I wanted him to have a suitably tragic ending. So there he is, abandoned, alone, completely losing his mind, allergic to daylight and riddled with a hunger for blood that can never be satisfied. He spends the rest of his tragically indeterminate existence malingering in the shadows of Faerûn: by night, killing anyone and anything unfortunate enough to cross his path, and by day, dreaming of blood and guts, but also -- in a small, unreachable corner of his mind -- dreaming of another life where he could make people proud, where he could make people love him.

Trivia

Fenton’s favourite colour is blood red (who'da thunk), his favourite season is summer, his favourite food is cherry pie or was, back when he ate food and not people, and his favourite animals are scorpions and diregoats.

Fenton’s birth name, Kroniban, literally means “sick joke” in drow Elven, because that's all he was in his mother's eyes

Fenton was raised in such isolation, he lowkey thought the Surface was a myth until he saw it for himself

Fenton is just so silly. He's loud and kooky, he loves to laugh and loves making other people laugh, which he’s pretty good at (even if much of the time, people are laughing at him rather than with him)

Fenton is the kinkiest most sadomasochistic mf you’ve ever met. Naturally he’s a bratty bottom, but he’ll try anything and has done p much everything at least once
