i've been loving the influx of trans Daffy posts i've been seeing because of this film... he's been laying eggs since at least 1950! this isn't even anything new! always has been!

It’s so frustrating and also incredibly sad that there’s a specific and very vocal type of trans guy who will see cis women say literally anything (tbh no matter how reductive) about their experience with womanhood and be like “omg I know I’m not a woman anymore but as a fellow AFAB former woman ex-weird little girl this is soooo me ☺️😍” but then a trans woman can say literally anything at all about her experience with womanhood and the exact same guy is willing to break his fucking spine bending over backwards to find a way to take whatever it is she said in the worst possible faith and interpret it as a personal attack worthy of extremely nitpicky criticism and beratement over how it might potentially be bigoted or exclusionary.

Why is a lot of art & photo projects lesbians and trans men, but no lesbian trans women?

one answer: historically (parts of) the lesbian and trans men's communities have had a close relationship and even overlapped in some ways. this is among other things due to many trans men first starting to explore their identities within the lesbian community & due to butch, genderqueer, transmasculine etc. lesbians sometimes further blurring the lines between the two groups. lesbians who were afab and trans men may also in general feel they share an experience as people who don't fit the female gender role assigned to them. another answer: transmisogyny. often lesbian trans women are left out of these projects either because of a desire to intentionally and maliciously exclude them or because the creator does not socialise with trans women and doesn't it as an issue. furthermore, some of the lesbians and trans men who emphasise their experiences as people assigned female at birth see it as the biggest thing that affects their identity & therefore may not see the value in examining what they share with trans women (which, again, is a manifestation of transmisogyny). personally i can certainly see the importance of lesbians who were afab and trans men connecting with each other (just like any other groups of queer people) & documenting and exploring our shared history. but i have to say that that coming at the expense of including trans women - especially trans lesbians, when we're talking about the literal lesbian community! - is one of the most alarming and frustrating trends i see in lesbian and trans media.

To get back to the terfs in Lady Oscar tag thing in a less cheeky way: I think the beautiful aspect of this specific manga is that it does Gender Fuckery in so many directions you can have multiple interpretations of the main character without ever going fully off book!

Genderqueer? The main character canonically describes themselves as "not a man, not a woman" at least once

Gender non conforming cis woman? She's a soldier in the 18th century: check

Trans woman? She's literally assigned male (/soldier) at birth and made to conform outwardly with masculine codes AND literally shocks everyone by ~revealing herself as a woman

Trans man? Arguably the one with the least textual evidence, yet there IS support for it, even if it's only a handful of scenes and strong repressed gay man vibe

And of course any and all of these gender configurations can be interpreted as queer because Oscar has both men and women interested in her, and she's not the one going "no Yuri" with her female friends so

So like. Sure, you can be a dick about different interpretations, but why wouldn't you choose to celebrate a work that represents so many people at the same time instead? It's really not that hard

Trans Win: I’ve gotten my cis family members to start using they them pronouns for themselves occasionally. Now they all use He/They or She/They. I don’t think they explicitly identify as using those pronouns but it’s just natural at this point.
