[momentary severance break for self care info]
if your disability makes it difficult for you to leave bed to brush your teeth, Colgate makes a product called Wisps that are single use, no-rinse toothbrushes you can use while in bed. They have a bead on the brush that dissolves and acts as toothpaste and can be swallowed. The other end has a toothpick.

If you're bedbound most of the time i highly recommend having these next to your bed on a bedside table:
Bottled drink, water is preferred but im gonna be honest, i use unsweetened black tea. Pouring your drink in a bottle makes sure no spills happen, because cleaning up a spill while you are confined to bed because of pain or something else fucking sucks.
Snacks: chips, popcorn, protein bars, nuts, ect. Have something thats a treat, and something that will actually fill you up.
Face wipes and moisturizer: i really don't have the energy to go to the bathroom and fully wash my face each day, so i use burts bees micellar rose water facial towlets, and cerave fps 30 facial lotion.
1 time use toothbrushs: i use colgate wisps. They are tiny toothbrushes with a little bit of teeth cleaning stuff on them. I do not have the energy to get up and brush my teeth everyday.
Vitamin gummies and otc meds: if you have over the counter meds you frequently use, just put them by the bed. I have tums, gas relief chewables, acid reflux stuff, and vitamin C gummies.
Hope this helps

Persecutor culture is having too many emotions at night to keep up with personal hygiene so the host has to buy me colgate wisps and face wipes to make sure I still keep us clean while being in control.

Hello Internet I figured i'd share with you some tools I use to help me with my disability that might help you!!
Colgate Wisp: These are considered travel toothbrushes but they're really great for days you cannot easily get to your toothbrush due to pain or other issues. These have been a life savor and they're not as sensory abbrasive as a normal tooth brush in my opinion
Tumblr media
Dude Wipes - Shower Wipes: Great for if you cannot commit to a full shower or in my case: my shower is upstairs so it is not acessible to me on bad days.
Tumblr media
Mercari - Yep that weird selling app: In my case I am out of work and I can make 50% of my pay outside of short term disability so I am always grinding for some extra money for bills. I have a friend help me ship things out- definitely not accessible to everyone but definitely helps
Heres my affilate link if you're interested: Use code SSAMNK when you sign up with my link-
Tumblr media
If you walk with a cane I definitely recommend getting a wrist strap for your cane so you dont accidently drop it like i do🤣
heres a great shop that sells them
If you have any tools or resources feel free to list them below and we'll make this post a huge masterlist!

RIP Frank Perconte. You would have loved Colgate Wisps and the ability to brush your teeth anywhere with no water.

question for shower friend: it's so hard to shower every single day. how do i know when to shower if i just don't have the energy to
if you can only shower every second day, that's okay. you can also purchase body wipes to clean yourself in bed a little bit, even if it's just your face and armpits. depression and disability make hygiene difficult. just do as much as you can and that's okay. if you struggle getting up to brush teeth, colgate makes single use toothbrushes called wisps that dont need paste or rinsing, you can use those easily in bed on bad days. i believe in you.

Got myself some of those Colgate 'wisp' disposable toothbrushes, 'cause being able to brush my teeth in bed is really good for my self-care.
Doesn't seem like they're for sale in Australia but I managed to find a packet on eBay that for some reason didn't have ludicrous shipping.
Using them for the first time tonight and "wisp" is right. These things are TINY!! Basically a glorified toothpick. Gave me the giggles when I got one out and held it. Doll-sized toothbrush.
Tumblr media
Works well enough. Takes a lot longer to brush than a regular toothbrush though, and its ergonomics aren't the greatest, both on account of how tiny it is.
The flavour of the toothpaste pellet isn't super nice. Not intolerable, just Very mouthwashy.
I won't buy more when this packet runs out, but they're handy little things to have.

hey just a tip from me to all the other mentally eel mfs on this site: if you have issues brushing your teeth i would personally recommend buying yourself some disposable waterless travel toothbrushes and just keeping them in your room (NOT your bathroom where your normal toothbrush is)
this probably won’t be the case for everyone but i find often the reason i don’t brush my teeth is because i’ve settled in for the night and cannot for whatever reason make myself leave my room so i just Wouldn’t, something that is much easier to overcome when i have these little disposable ones at my desk and next to my bed. there is one within arm’s reach basically at all times. if you’ve tried other stuff like getting a different flavoured toothpaste or specific brush or w/e and it hasn’t helped maybe your problem is more like mine!

Chris uses Colgate wisp brush’s and has a lot of barkleys mints with him. He also uses Phillips toothbrush and Colgate red whitening tooth paste…. His plants are taken care of a plant care taker in La or when his friends visit LA…
It's no surprise that a son of a dentist uses Colgate, but this is an oddly specific response...👀👀

So I need help with three bills, but I also need two things of cat litter, Colgate wisps (I'm trying to get my family's dental health improved), all the laundry stuff and the Powerwash starter kit. Any help at all would be amazing, and if anyone can help with the last $200 in bills I need to pay, my PayPal is [email protected] and my Cashapp is $afteriwake23. Thank you in advance for help and reblogs!

Genuinely well done! It can be a real struggle.
Also for people who struggle with brushing your teeth, using an alcohol free mouthwash that contains fluoride is basically just as good! If you can hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds. The reason alcohol free is better is because it's easier to hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds if it's not burning you, and also because alcohol kills all bacteria not just the bacteria we don't want.
There are also toothbrushes called Colgate Wisps which I found out about today that you don't need to rinse or anything so you can brush in bed.
i found out today that my toothbrush needs to be replaced soon due to wear and tear. For most people that's pretty mundane but for me, that's a huge accomplishment - I haven't successfully managed to brush my teeth on a regular enough basis for that to happen for probably at least 10-15 years.
I started brushing my teeth every night in April of last year, but I was using pre-pasted toothbrushes. Once I moved in with my wife, I switched to a single toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste. Speaking of which, the toothpaste tube is running low, too! Haven't had that happen in at least as many years.
also I'm happy about it cause my current toothbrush is pink (which both gives me a small amount of dysphoria and also confuses me as to which one is mine and which one is my wife's) and just not great - i think I'm gonna shop around for other toothbrush options tonight before bed and maybe tomorrow too depending on what I can find. I honestly have no idea what kind of brush i even prefer so it'll be a learning journey.
What a win!!! I've been there myself, so I know how much of a struggle regularly brushing your teeth can become from my own experience, and I'm really proud of you for finding a way to make it happen! I'm also brushing my teeth regularly these days, but there were years where I just couldn't make it happen
