"Critical thinking and reading comprehension are skills that aren't taught to a lot of students in the US anymore."
Very true! The US school system is absolutely fucked and cares more about producing good test results than actually teaching students useful and vital skills, so students can do just fine on standardized tests but end up graduating without the ability to put that knowledge into practice in their day-to-day lives.
But! I will say this again! Your education does not end in a high school classroom! And you can in fact build and improve these skills on your own! It's very easy actually! Just google "how to improve [reading comprehension/critical thinking/etc] skills" and you'll find tons of advice and guides from a lot of different resources! Here's a couple to get you started!
#the tags on that manifest destiny post are pissing me off#sorry that you can't connect 'it's god's will for white people to control america' to the genocide of native people#but that is not actually my problem. improve yourself.

FORGETTABLE-AU (page 82-85)
THAT LAZYBONES!!
[BEGINNING] [PREVIOUS] [CONTINUE]
#So sorry it took me almost 2 weeks to post these#I was busy irl but ALSO I had too much fun doing extra art and forgot to work on these for like 3 days lmao#NOW THIS TIME I DO HAVE SOME THING TO SAY#YAY RIVERPERSON! SO MANY PEOPLE GUESSED CORRECTLY!#It wasn't that hard#We know Papyrus knows the river person#are they friends? idk BUT I PERSONALLY THINK THEY ARE#I just LOVEEE looking at the dialogue and making connections#I referenced one of the lines from the river person here...sometimes they'll ask you if you know any game you can play with a dog...#They said they were “asking for a friend...”#And I couldn't help but think about Papyrus' problem with the annoying dog LMAO#+ Papyrus seems very excited to know if the river person is there when you call him nearby that area#Okay so... now ...some comic thing that I made up but also didn't...#“FLOWEY DOESN'T KNOW WHO THE RIVER PERSON IS?”#okay so...#I feel like#It's not very common for them to be there...#When talking with Undyne around that area it's kind of *unclear* if she knows about the river person being there....#She tells you about the river connecting different areas and that you should “jump in”#She then clarifies that's the only thing they got for public transport#AND LIKE? It's unclear if she's telling you to jump in the boat (OR IF SHE KNOWS THERE'S SOMEONE WITH A BOAT) or is she's literally telling#you to jump in the river?????#Anyways...so...that's that#HEHE Flowey and Papyrus finally arrived at the house! WOHOO#Sans is too lazy to bring his old stuff to the surface! (or does he still think he'll end up back in the underground eventually?)#undertale#undertale comic#forgettable-au-comic#papyrus#flowey

It's crazy what he gets away with (and who the ones letting him get away with it are)
Bruce: What Nightwing did might have been... unconventional, but it worked.
Tim: Exactly. I mean, sure, the plan might have involved hacking into Gotham’s power grid, a few strategic distractions, and, uh, some minor illegal surveillance-
Barbara: MINOR? DISTRUBANCES??
Tim: Okay, fine! The plan also had a teensy bit of hacking into the stock market, manipulating a few politicians, and borrowing a couple confidential documents, but nobody was harmed!
Bruce: ...In the strictest sense.
Tim: Yes! See, it's a win-win solution!
Barbara: *furious* You two are insane. You’re treating morally ambiguous like it’s a fun new hobby. He practically engineered an escape from a high-security prison by tricking the entire staff into thinking it was game night. In addition, he orchestrated a city-wide blackout just to steal classified documents, and you’re calling it genius?
Bruce: Very resourceful.
Tim: I mean... it’s not his fault they didn’t know how to play Dungeons & Dragons. Also, I want to see who else could pull off a high-profile heist while simultaneously launching a PR campaign for a new tech startup!
Bruce: *to Tim* Wayne Enterprise's tech gadgets cleared the shelves, we need to speed up production.
Tim: Already on it.
Barbara: You’re defending this? That’s not genius, that’s a psychotic breakdown wrapped in a cape! It's madness layered up in a three-piece suit!
Bruce and Tim: It’s Dick.
Barbara: I swear, if it was anyone else, you’d be throwing them in a cell for years.
Bruce and Tim: It’s Nightwing. He has plausible deniability.
Barbara: Plausible? I think he has a whole separate universe of deniability!

I think movie buff Duke Thomas should force Jason to watch the LOTR movies and literature nerd Jason Todd should force Duke to read the books.
They should make a movie night out of it and then a weekly book club that's really just Jason periodically hacking comms during Duke's patrol so he can yell at him to finish each chapter like a deranged English teacher that follows you around at work. And then they should get into heated arguments about Tom Bombadil; and Duke should get really invested in overanalyzing all the poetry in the book trilogy; and Jason should rewatch all three movies like seven times at least so he can scribble thoughts into the margins of his paperback copies, write dissertations in his head about the effectiveness of different story changes, and cry at Sam's "But I can carry you!" without having to stop reading.
And then they should repeat all of this with The Hobbit. They're both a little psychotic about it and the rest of the family is tired.
#added the tags and more stuff to a reblog!#genuinely I think tom bombadil would frustrate the fuck out of duke#that boy loves the thrill of discovery and putting all the puzzle pieces together and tom bombadil is unsolvable#and I think jason would resonate a lot more with the movie ending than with the book ending#coming home from a life-changing journey to find that everything has stayed the same#like that would hit different for him than the scouring of the shire#duke thomas#jason todd#signal dc#signal#red hood#batfam#batfamily#jason also tries to get duke to read the silmarillion AND beren and luthien#“but you said beren and whatever is already in the other one!”#“that's just one version you need to read all of them for the full experience!”#“NO”#“YES”#EDIT: I've decided that duke and jason have a tom bombadil murder board#it's got cutouts of book lines and Tolkien quotes and artwork and written snapshots of Tolkien's history#all connected with color-coded string and littered with sticky notes and scattered scribbles#some parts are highlighted#it takes up two sides of a whiteboard in the batcave and a whole wall in one of jason's safehouses#one of the other batfamily members sees the safehouse version once and wisely does not comment#duke and jason can go on about this shit for hours and as soon as you get one going the other will materialize and cause problems#but anyway#duke and jason the brothers ever

Sabo: loneliness, connection and affection
Trying to organise my thoughts on this matter hehe
I just thought that Sabo's relationship with loneliness and connection are very interesting, and not much people talk about how terribly lonely his childhood days were(even compared to Ace&Luffy).
Ace has been alienated from people from the beginning. Raised in the middle of the jungle, by bandits who never showed much affection, and who repeated the same hurtful words as others did. The state of loneliness is the norm for him. He has never known any other life. Naturally, he'd be protective of what little he has(Sabo) and reluctant to open up and accept new connections(Luffy).
As for Luffy, he has been left alone. Shanks left him after a year staying at Windmill village. Garp constantly took him out of his regular life only to leave him alone in the jungle. And he as well took him away from the village and Makino, after he ate his devil fruit. And while he didn't have [present] parents, he had been cared for. Luffy knows the difference between loneliness and companionship. Which is why he chased Ace's recognition so much.
Sabo's situation is more similar to Luffy's.

But do you ever think that Sabo loved his parents? That he wanted them to love him too? He wouldn't have drawn them if he didn't. He wouldn't be so disheartened at their dismissal if he hated them from the start. But his parents made their love conditional. Sabo had to earn their love and his happiness, while they ignored his pain and attempts to connect.
And as you know this kind of relationship could leave a lasting impact on how one navigates their future relationships! But on that later😊
Now, Sabo ran away and that opened a whole other can of worms. He's a child, that for five years didn't have anyone to rely on. Of course, Ace was with him, but after he left for the day, Sabo was left completely alone. I mean, at least Ace had Dadan and occasionally Makino and Garp, they shared meals together, he could turn to them in case something happened and they provided him with company and a roof above his head. Sabo lived on the Gray Terminal by himself, in a place where people considered him either a troublemaker to avoid, or a pest to get rid of (those like pirates and bandits). So through Ace and Luffy Sabo gains not only brothers but also other connections and people who care about him! And he welcomes both Dadan and Makino with a bright smile :) Now that I think about it, just like Ace told him about Luffy, he also must've told Sabo about them too🥹
And while all this is nice, his previous problems didn't go away magically.
(… But his issues aren't stated or shown as explicitly as Ace and Luffy's, so they are easier to dismiss.)
Even though Sabo trusted Ace with his life, he still kept his origins a secret from him, whether it was because he felt them insignificant compared to Ace's or because he feared abandonment in case Ace would be disappointed. And he was more than willing to keep his secret until the very end - Luffy&Ace literally had to beat(strangle) the truth out of him. Sabo also put distance between them in another way too: Ace thought the two of them would sail together, Sabo didn't.
That is honestly also a point to how controlling his parents were. Sabo wanted freedom so much that he didn't mind the loneliness that came with it. Well, he got what he wanted ;)
Now it would be easy to say that his amnesia also erased his trauma. But it didn't! Sabo still felt hid parents' influence. (And unlike the other weird amnesia case (the sea sure likes to take people's memories huh) - Big Mom - he didn't revert to his younger self, he only lost access to his memories, his feelings and 'character development' remained). If anything it only led to Sabo not being able to identify the cause of his issues → not being able to treat them properly. Now, the RA seem like decent guys, they very well could be the needed support system for Sabo, but again, it's an army with a whole lot of other issues to deal with. So either way his trauma most likely was allowed to fester for a while as we see its consequences show in his adulthood.
Even though Sabo seems to be doing well as an adult, there's still some signs of emotional distance. He has never reciprocated a hug, even though he doesn't have a problem with physical touch in general, he didn't even think about approaching Luffy in Dressrosa at first and was very tense when actually talking to him. And it's honestly fascinating just how stiff his body language was in Dressrosa (maybe I'll talk about it in general some other time) - be it shock or anger he keeps his arms to his body, unlike Koala or Hack, who choose violence.

He also showed barely any reaction during Vegapunk's speech despite the panelling focusing on him specifically. I'd say he mostly keeps his negative emotions in check, bc in Robin's little flashback he was quite expressive! The main counterpoint is 'special Luff' where he is very open about his anger, but he has a really decent reason for it: his feelings being made fun of. And as you'll see later it's a very sensitive topic for him →
To begin with, he avoids talking about things that have emotionally impacted him in any way.

1.This one might be a stretch, but he begins to talk about his encounter with Fujitora, only not to say anything in the end, idk what's wrong with him; 2. After a very emotional fight with Burgess Sabo dismisses any worries without even mentioning the fight; 3. He refuses to talk with Hack about Luffy, even though we know that he loves to yap about him to Dragon. And that is right after he didn't want to wake Luffy up to even say goodbye! He also changes the topic quickly so Karasu wouldn't be able to further question him.
Even though these scenes are played as gags, he really seems to have trouble with emotional intimacy and opening up about his feelings. And that makes him seem inattentive and irresponsible, thus affecting his relationships with others even more…
And speaking of which, he is accustomed with either suppressing his feelings or at least just keeping them in check. He hides his worries from his colleagues, appearing as cheerful as always. And during his meeting with Dragon and Iva he brushes aside his guilt and grief for king Kobra (but, I mean it's a work meeting, they need to be professional) and never once he acknowledges his injuries.

And if he's willing to disregard such a thing as grief, how do you think he really feels about his new title, which was gained by the blood of a man he failed to save?
And frankly, right now we don't know much about Sabo! We know about his childhood, and the way he presents himself now(and that is some material to work with), but the 12 years in the Revolutionary Army are a mystery, and again it's an army, I bet he's seen many things, especially considering how high his position is!
tldr: like Luffy, Sabo has a special relationship with loneliness and abandonment. But unlike Luffy, who especially in pre-ts hated separation, Sabo pushes people away. And what makes it even harder for others to connect with him, is that he tends to hide his feelings and problems.
(like a cat)
but again, I might be reading something wrong, my bad
#it's so funny that some fix-it fics that are not Sabo-focused usually boil down his problems to:#a)amnesia b)ace (almost) dying c)physically being with his parents#he's NOT the one to open up and show his feelings let's be honest#one piece#sabo#one piece sabo#karyss' rambling#frankly it's so easy to lose the plot while talking about Sabo#one thing connects to another - what a delightful little riddle he is#I actually started writing this in november... and then kinda abandoned it lol

Childe listens.
he will listen to your problems, your woes. he will sit next to you, take you in his arms, and soothe you merely by allowing you to speak. you've done the same for him, countless times- it is only good that he returns the favor, and he wants to. Childe wants to hear about everything that makes you angry, everything that causes you to weep. he cannot fix them, but he can treat you gently, kindly, let you know you're cared about.
and inevitably Foul Legacy will emerge, overcome with joined sorrow for you. he tries to keep his tears under control as he purrs, stuttering and nudging against you. he takes the droplets of your frustrations and wipes them away, flicking them into the air and making tiny whales swim around you so perhaps you can laugh and smile again. your Abyssal monster gathers you into his arms, resting your head on his lilac fluff and trilling gently, in reassurance and affection. no longer will you have to mend other's troubles while having everyone ignore your own.
with Childe and Foul Legacy, you are not invisible anymore.

Have you and could you do a thought on jason chart? He and cass are my faves
The Feelings About Jason Todd Alignment Chart
Cass, Dick, and Tim versions. This is VERY contestable, Jason's canon history is inconsistent so a lot of these are subject to preferred runs/personal interpretation. So, as usual, open to change!
#jason todd#cassandra cain#dick grayson#tim drake#barbara gordon#bruce wayne#damian wayne#stephanie brown#duke thomas#cass and jay being your favs is great <333 you have good taste!!#jason with the most haters... they just can't handle him#i do love how much he struggles to form a close connection to any bat he meets post-death#shut off from them by layers of pent-up expectations and misconceptions#that's why i think dick babs and bruce (despite having more problems with him in a way) also are the most likely to give him a chance#but jt fans feel free to chime in and correct me on anything!!#ask

re the anti-resurrection poison though like. what the fuck was up with that. Like, I can, as a mediocre DM myself and an avid listener to NADDPod D&D Court understand where it came from: you needed a reason why Will and Derrig were still dead despite Keyleth being there, because that was Orym's backstory, which in turn dated back to Liam's concept for a backup character for Vax, ie, someone who had also lost a partner and would be sent to help Keyleth in the wake of a similar loss. So you come up with the anti-resurrection poison. And this also happens to work out nicely for the climactic solstice battle, because it explains why Keyleth can't just rally after Vax intervenes. It also makes sense as a thing the Ruby Vanguard would have, because of the anti-divine magic and the way that the Weave Mind have similar anti-healing powers.
The problem is, of course, that you've introduced this concept - which is, again, actually very good and elegant and fits in seamlessly - but it's out there and you have to either use it or come up with an excuse not to use it. And you can, I think, legitimately make a case for it not being in play in the Seat of Disdain fight because that came up very suddenly. But then it gets pretty weird that when Bells Hells become a consistent thorn in the Vanguard's side, and Otohan moves from "I need to keep the Ruidusborn alive but fuck everyone else" to "I'm just going to kill them all" and clearly knows they have considerable resurrection resources and access to the rare antidote given Keyleth's return to the stage that she doesn't just coat all weapons with it and nerf all healing to drain their resources.
And anyway this is a consistent problem, of like, there actually was the full setup for the story C3 intended to tell in C1 and C2 and early C3, but to make these entirely unrelated characters actually fit into a pretty specific narrative, you had to add in a bunch of complicated additions. And while some of those were a mess, some were actually really well done, like the initial introduction of the anti-resurrection poison and the gray assassins, and then none of it mattered because they were always just additions to make the core plot fit and there were too many balls in the air so they got dropped without exploration, and anyone paying attention was like "hey you dropped this" and it's like you could have juggled 3 or even 4 or 5 balls adequately, but you had to add in 4 extra balls and ultimately some of them landed on the ground and so the act of barely keeping 3 in the air in the end is undercut by the number you dropped.
#cr tag#this reminds me of how a few days ago in DMs I noted that hilariously Imogen doesn't have much connection to the plot of c3#like she's the central character technically and she is put into a chosen one role?#but she's actually not the chosen one - you could swap her out for any exaltant#and she literally didn't MENTION the gods until ludinus brought it up; her initial motivation was entirely surrounding her powers#frankly this is also as far as we know the situation with liliana. like ludinus saw people with legitimate problems#and used it to push an unrelated personal agenda like one of those scammers who preys on people with cancer#and you can see the traces of this too - in how people defend imogen by saying she didn't like her powers and wanted to get rid of them#which really stopped being true very early on bc there was no room for it in the moon plot; she completely dropped that#slash actively embraced them. if that was always her goal then the story is a tragedy for imogen; it ends in abject failure#bc the story and characters had to contort themselves to meet and in doing so quite a lot splintered off very obviously
