The Coyote Connection: Promoting Respectful Coexistence in Our Communities
In our natural spaces like the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and the George Genereux Urban Regional Park, coexistence with wildlife, including coyotes, is essential for maintaining the delicate balance of our ecosystems. As we venture into these semi-wilderness habitats, understanding how to peacefully interact with coyotes becomes paramount. Respect Nature, Respect Coyotes: Let’s…

If you put a bunch of horses, zebras and donkeys in a large field together, with enough grass, vegetation, water, etc. to consume but without any human intervention - would there be interbreeding going on? If not, what do you think this scenario would look like more generally? Thanks in advance :)
Generally, when there is no human intervention, hybridization is very rare.
Horses are present in Africa, where there are populations of both wild ass and zebra, and yet wild zorse or even wild mules are basically unheard of. See also, the American southwest, where horses and burros are both invasive and yet you don't see feral mules among them.
This is because animals that have speciated, or become different species, have different estrus cycles, different courtship rituals and different behavior patterns that tend to make matings of this type very rare. Especially with horses, where mares tend to live in a herd that is protected by a stallion that will fight to the death over breeding rights to said mares.
A feral burro would not likely fare well against a feral horse stallion, if it attempted a mating with a feral mare at all.
You also see this even with animals that are much closer related to one another such as dogs, wolves and coyotes. All three of these animals have considerable overlap and can even produce viable offspring unlike a horse and a donkey. However it's still exceedingly rare for it to happen in the wild.
Wolves and coyotes are seasonal breeders that go into estrus at different times, and the strong territorial nature of these animals means they seldom mix. A wild wolf and a wild dog, or a wild dog and a wild coyote, or a wild wolf and wild coyote, are more than likely going to see each other as either a threat or a prey item and attack it accordingly.
Being raised by humans and made to tolerate one another with behavioral modification and artificial introductions to create cross species relationships, often by introducing the animals when they're still babies, gets them over the differences that usually prevent their union.
While sometimes wild hybrids do happen naturally, even then many times it's considered a survival response to pressures exerted on them by humans. See the eastern coyote, which is said to have considerable wolf ancestry, which may have happened because wolves were so strongly persecuted as to be almost entirely wiped out while the coyote was able to adapt. The more adaptable or desperate wolves threw their lot in with the survivors. (Though there is also some conjecture that even the eastern coyote is much less of a hybrid and more of just a large coyote without as much wolf or dog influence as previous believed)
Nature doesn't tend to encourage hybridization, and while you may get one or two fluke mules from such a group, if they had enough space to escape one another and access to their own kind to mate with, you wouldn't see it very much.

CHECK THE FOLLOWING FOR PREVIOUS LORE INSTALLMENTS :
CHAPTER ONE : RECALL.
EVENT : HELL WEEK.
CHAPTER TWO: THE MOLE.
HELL WEEK CLOSING BRIEF.
OPERATION WHAC-A-MOLE.
PANDORA DIRECTIVE MEMORANDUM CLASSIFIED — INTERNAL DISTRIBUTION ONLY
to : 𝙰𝙻𝙻 𝙰𝚄𝚃𝙷𝙾𝚁𝙸𝚉𝙴𝙳 𝙾𝙿𝙴𝚁𝙰𝚃𝙸𝚅𝙴𝚂 from : 𝙾𝙵𝙵𝙸𝙲𝙴 𝙾𝙵 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙳𝙸𝚁𝙴𝙲𝚃𝙾𝚁 subject : 𝙸𝙽𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚁𝙾𝙶𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽 𝚁𝙴𝚂𝚄𝙻𝚃𝚂 & 𝙲𝙾𝙽𝚃𝙸𝙽𝚄𝙴𝙳 𝙾𝙱𝚂𝙴𝚁𝚅𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽
[ DATE : MARCH 16, 2025 ] following the completion of all assigned interrogations, the office of the director hereby provides the following assessment and follow-up procedures for transparency's sake.
THE FOLLOWING AGENTS ARE NOW CLEARED FROM SUSPICION :
✅ WARLORD : although the subject exhibited frustration throughout the interrogation, the interrogator determined that warlord presented no indications of compromise or subversion. his responses were consistent with verified operational logs and expected behavior. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY. ✅ PROMETHEUS : while the subject exhibited a low risk for covert czernobog activity, the interrogator has deemed it prudent to assign additional surveillance on the subject as a small precautionary measure. starting immediately, AGENT BLINK is granted full oversight of the subject's future operations, with authority to escalate should any inconsistent patterns arise. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY. ✅ CASPER : after the initial introductions and a slight coercion tactic by the interrogator, the subject complied with the interrogator's line of questioning, providing consistent answers aligned with operational timelines and activity logs. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY. ✅ TOXIN : the interrogator assessed that the subject displayed no indicators of deceit or ulterior motives during questioning. the subject's alibi was also confirmed t through corroborated surveillance footage and timeline analysis. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY. ✅ LORALEI : the interrogation of the subject proceeded without incident, with the subject demonstrating full cooperation throughout the inquiry and all responses aligning with verified intelligence. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY. ✅ GOSSAMER : the subject's interrogation revealed genuine loyalty and devotion to pandora's mission, with his statements passing all phases of lie detection and analysis. FINAL ASSESSMENT : TRUSTWORTHY.
THE FOLLOWING AGENTS ARE AWAITING FINAL ASSESMENT :
❓ PARASITE.
THE FOLLOWING AGENTS COULD BE POTENTIALLY COMPROMISED :
⚠️ COYOTE : the subject's interrogation revealed troubling inconsistencies and a concerning willingness to implicate a fellow operative without any substantial evidence. the interrogator expressed a lingering sense that something is amiss with the subject's behavior, suggesting possible compromise or coercion. better observation and / or expert psychological assessment is highly advised to determine the subject's operational integrity moving forward. FINAL ASSESSMENT : POTENTIALLY COMPROMISED. ⚠️ HIVE : the interrogator's assessment of the subject indicated pre-rehearsed answers and the calculated use of psychological manipulation throughout the interrogation. the subject's responses are also flagged as too refined and overly structured, suggesting a potential attempt to mislead or obscure certain truths. the subject's fondness for employing psychological games further raised concern regarding his allegiance. FINAL ASSESSMENT : POTENTIALLY COMPROMISED. ⚠️ CHIMERA : although the subject was not initially identified as a direct suspect, the interrogator's assessment emphasized that the subject's powers and previous affiliation with czernobog inherently categorizes him as high-risk for potential mole activity. while the subject's responses did not raise immediate concerns, his past conditioning and programming remain an unresolved variable. due to this latent threat potential, the subject is required to have additional surveillance and precautionary oversight. FINAL ASSESSMENT : SPECIAL STUDY NEEDED.
with credible concerns regarding their potential compromise and / or risk of being deep-cover czernobog assets, agents hive, coyote, and chimera are mandated to wear the fortitude division's newly developed security prototype device, the argus band, until they're clear of suspicion.
this metallic collar serves as a multi-functional security device equipped with :
real-time tracking — continuous location monitoring with internal uplink to pandora’s secure network.
audio and video recording — passive capture of ambient conversation and activity logs.
localized explosive mechanism — a safeguard protocol allowing for remote detonation in the event of unauthorized movement, breach of trust, or further corroboration of disloyalty.
** only authorized personnel will have the means to remove this device. anyone caught tampering with the device will face immediate punishment.
additionally, due to their meticulous and successful work as interrogators, the following agents are allowed a 72-hour vacation leave from atlantis, with an additional operative of their choice [ excluding potentially compromised agents ] : ONI, WILDSEER, LITTLE SPOON, HARBINGER, BLOODBORN, NIGHTSHADE, BLINK, AND ZERO.
MARCH 26, 2025. canon-typical violence, death tw. more info under the cut.
LEVEL 02 — COMMAND CENTER.
the prudence division quietly operated in level 02's command center, their eyes and ears stretched across every digital thread in and beyond atlantis. and seeing fragments of odd patterns, information coded in algorithms, and intelligence leaks between different pandora outposts and personnels were nothing new. after all, even the higher-ups had their own agendas— the castillos, the junipers, the albrights. but director marcus valance didn't see their attempts at gaining more power and authority to be a threat to the organization. but this ? it was a suspicion crystallized into confirmation when a meticulously encrypted message was intercepted, piggybacking off atlantis' auxiliary data stream, routed to a russian backchannel. it was clean, professional, and almost untraceable. almost. but there was no mistaking the signature embedded within the code— daemon. " all operatives, " the voice echoed across atlantis' vast, sterile corridors, crackling through the pa system as the emergency protocol engaged. " code black. immediate termination order issued for agent daemon. eliminate on sight. " but the fallout was immediate. security feeds scrambled. communications severed. a power blackout while the cloaking and perimeter defense pulled every available wattage from the backup generators, leaving only the cold glow of red emergency lights pulsing in the oppressive dimness. and deep within the network, daemon’s technopathy infected atlantis like a virus. hundreds of hours of surveillance footage deleted. the omnipresent androids— derek, porter, manny— turned against the agents like it was fucking hell week all over again, their programming hijacked, directive rewritten. hundreds of them attempting to hold back the agents from stopping daemon's escape.
LEVEL 05 — THE PLAYGROUND.
the playground was no sanctuary. a swarm of androids trapping the operatives before they could start looking for the supposed traitor. volt's pulse surged through the air, crackling arcs of electricity leaping from his fingertips, frying circuits⸻ but derek models were insulated against electromagnetic surges. they adapted. three advanced units closed in, attacking him from every angle. bloodborn fought differently, using his own blood as a weapon, whipping it into fine tendrils that slashed and coiled. but against a swarm of cold state-of-the-art machinery, it was almost ineffective. one android drove its blade through his thigh⸻ metal splitting flesh, almost grinding into bone. then another. and another. achilles was already moving. reactive adaptation kicked in, his body hardening against each blow, skin thickening to withstand the androids' relentless assault. but it was his newly acquired inanimation field that saved them, allowing him to suspend all objects in his immediate vicinity in an inanimate state. enough to drag bloodborn to safety as volt gathered enough power from empty air to bypass the androids' insulation and incinerate them attackers in a final lightning burst.
LEVEL 03 — R&D SECTOR
androids swarmed the lab, but thankfully two agents were present to protect the scientists and their latest breakthroughs. gossamer was a blur, clinging to walls, striking with lethal precision. webs of silk entangled the androids, holding them just long enough for dash to dart between them, a streak of motion that left cybernetic husks crumpling behind him. but even the fastest man in atlantis could be stopped. a porter unit had adapted⸻ its sensors anticipating dash's trajectory. it caught him mid-stride, a blade carving into his side. gossamer's danger sense screamed too late, and he barely managed to pull dash free, ripping the porter apart in a burst of adrenaline. but it managed to stab him too, before completely shutting down. dash's wound slowed him, but gossamer kept them moving, scaling walls and ceilings while they attempted to come up with a plan.
LEVEL 01 — WEAPONS & VEHICLES ENGINEERING LAB
goblin's exosuit was smoking. his prototype devices had been enough to down half a dozen mannys, but his suit was running on fumes. nurse was behind him, applying pressure to a gaping wound on goblin's shoulder, his hands steady despite the chaos. neither of them had powers, but his presence alone kept them grounded. another manny unit advanced. goblin's gauntlet flared one last time, an improvised energy cannon discharging straight into the android's core. it fell⸻ but two more took its place. goblin and nurse ran to his workshop table and tried every prototype weapon he had ever made, everything and anything to protect himself and nurse.
LEVEL 01 — HANGAR BAY.
daemon was cornered. he was bleeding, limping toward a quinjet, desperation etched into his face as blink slowly walked behind him, a bloody sword in hand. " i'm not the mole, " daemon rasped, eyes flickering with static as his technopathy fought to stay in control. " i fucking saved everyone during hell week. i warned everyone about the invasion. you have to believe me. " blink just tilted his head for a second. then, space ruptured. daemon's knees buckled as blink appeared in front of him, the blade pierced into his gut. " please— " daemon begged. but blink's eyes were cold. space ruptured again. blink appeared behind him this time. a slash. and daemon's head hit the floor, rolling to a stop, eyes wide with horror even in death.
the androids return to their official directive, helping the very agents they tried to stop. and the power returned, too. but hundreds of hours of surveillance footage has been deleted⸻ and no one can really fully know everything that happened before and during the blackout. but can it really be this easy ? is daemon really the mole ? as always, pandora is tight-lipped about what's going on. they tell everyone that daemon has been terminated by blink, but that's it.
the three potentially compromised agents continue to wear their argus bands as a precaution. though, rumor has it that the prudence division that the encrypted message that was intercepted is a list of agents who daemon thought were threats to czernobog, including their powers and weaknesses. and according to a particularly gossipy prudence agent, this is somewhat odd because pandora also recently discovered a similar message after hacking viktor sokolov's servers, but this one didn't have the same signature as daemon's message. the threats listed in that message are :
oleksander valentin [ hive ] : telepathy
geum ji-ho [ psynaut ] : telekinesis
jj juniper [ copycat ] : power replication
victor lundberg [ volt ] : electrokinesis
lucas choi [ blink ] : spatial manipulation
and in daemon's message were :
niko petrovic [ lifeweaver ] : life transference
theodore king [ achilles ] : reactive adaptation
adrian crane [ boogeyman ] : fear manifestation
david yoon [ bloodborn ] : blood manipulation
aleki lafaele [ pulse ] : vibration manipulation
but these are just rumors, the operatives aren't officially privy of these information yet.
𝙾𝙾𝙲 𝙸𝙽𝙵𝙾𝚁𝙼𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽.
and with that chapter two : the mole is officially over ! but fret not, just because the mole is an overarching story so expect throughlines for it to continue popping up. but since there's a bunch of new info here, i'm pushing our next chapter and event to april 5th, just to give what happened in this closing some adequate simmering and rp time ! if your muse isn't particularly involved in any of the above, feel free to headcanon their injuries or what they were doing during the blackout ! also just want to thank everyone for your continued activity in this little place < 3 there's a lot of interactive stuff involved especially in this chapter with our secret moles, detectives, and interrogators so i really just want to say i appreciate everyone's willingness to participate ! also if your name is on that threat list, that's all the mole's ( or is it moles ? ) work ! not mine ! so when it's time for what happens next, blame them 🤭

Dear Lutha,
Thank you very much for your kind and quick response to my previous (and very first) question, which was about 'caging' in D/s relationships. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading your post on the topic.
Since I appreciate your thoughts so much, I am writing to you on another topic. In some dramas with strong D/s elements (such as Cutie Pie, Love in the Air, My Personal Weatherman, You are mine and even sometimes in KinnPorsche), infantilization dynamics are to be seen. This element is all the stronger as the age gap is marked, even though it can still show up anytime.
I'm not necessarily talking about the Dad/little dynamics, but of a more general Adult/minor type relationship, where the former leads and protects the latter through the usual parental tools (like scolding, giving lessons, correcting, punishing, rewarding etc.. .).
For me, this pattern is for example very strong in a series like My Personal Weatherman, where Segasaki assumes a parental role towards Yoh, who often acts and speaks like a child (either spontaneously or in reaction to his partner's attitude). If I understand them correctly, @notfreetoday's detailed and fascinating posts on language(s) in My Personal Weatherman tend to validate this impression.
So, I wanted to ask you a/ if you would also describe parts of these relationships as consensual infantilization and, b/ if so, if they are in your opinion different from common D/s dynamics. Or whether they should be seen as a particular expression of a mere D/s dynamics.
If you have time, I would be happy to read your thoughts on this matter. Thank you once again for your delightful posts.
Best,
Yassa
Hey Yassa!!!
I'm so glad you enjoy my writing. It means a lot!
"Where the former leads and protects the latter through the usual parental tools (like scolding, giving lessons, correcting, punishing, rewarding etc...)."
Labeling discipline as infantile is limiting. We use corrective tools even in the work place. If you mess up then you get scolded, given a lesson, correcting, and so on. We all need correction at any stage of age. It just depends on your hierarchy on how that correction is given. With a D/s relationship, the hierarchy places the Dom at the top. Therefor, if a Dom just like a Boss is found to be wrong, the consequences will be far different from those given to a sub or subordinate. It's an imbalance in power control.
However, I think I'm capturing what you are really trying to ask. All the shows you just mentioned are BT/b relationships. Which is a D/s relationship involving a Brat Tamer Dom and a brat submissive. This is the type of Dom that I am. We are typically very cool, calm, and collected. We are protective but much more loose on the leash than other Doms. We will often engage in romantic play or play fighting, but push us too far, and you will see an intensity in us that will send shivers down your spine. Regardless of how gentle we seem, we will gladly give it to you if you deserve punishment. Due to our submissives liking to push our buttons, you'll see a more tug of war relationship. Depending on if we want to get ahead of it or let it play out is how you'll see us lead. Which is why you see more disciplining in a BT/b relationship.
The Brat Submissive - Brats in general are overly-aggressive, sarcastic, sassy, and your general coyote. They have no intentions of submitting to anyone's authority or discipline if you have not earned their respect.
The SAM Submissive - The SAM is a type of brat. A SAM type submissive, also known as a Smart-Assed Masochist, is just that, a smart-talking submissive with a quick tongue. Usually, their Sammie behavior isn't actually a cry for attention; it's just their way of being playful. In fact, most SAMs when actually threatened with punishment will back off, saying that they were only playing and that they didn't mean anything by it. Occasionally, this behavior can be incredibly frustrating to their partners, but the rewards far out weigh the negatives.
My Beautiful Man: Starts out as M/s which is Master slave and moves into a deep D/s. No BT/t in this relationship.
Not Me: This is a soft D/s relationship, but it's there. White is a little bit of a brat but much more subservient.
Love In The Air: Very much BT/b relationship. With a Primitive Brat Taming Dom and SAM submissive.
Until We Meet Again: I recommend this one for seeing the difference between a deeper D/s relationship that is Dean and Pharm. In comparison to Win and Team who are BT/b.
Between Us: WinTeam's story. Brat Tamer with a SAM submissive. The difference in Team is that he is a Dom outside of their relationship. So what is called a Sexual Submissive Only.
I Will Knock You: Deep D/s with large age gap. The youngest being the Dom.
Stay By My Side: D/s relationship with a stricter Dom but a brat of a sub.
My Personal Weatherman: A Deep Brat Tamer with a brat submissive.
Hope this was helpful! 💜💜💜

i am a coydog!!! infodump and kinfirm
a coydog is a mix between a male coyote and a female dog, with a dogote as the counter. for the most part, they’re not super common as in many cases a coyote would rather eat a dog than mate with one, however it does occur! in the wild, it often occurs when a yote is new to an area and cannot find a mate, and so will mate with a domesticated dog. the appearance of the hybrid will depend on the dog mate, but they typically all share an athletic build with the usual yote-like upright, triangular ears with a long snout. they typically have brown eyes and stick to the brown, dense coat of coyotes, though they can also be white or black as well. they have tails similar to coyotes, bushy and downwards. they bark like dogs and howl (scream) like coyotes.
unlike many hybrids, the coydog is capable of reproduction! due to their wild counterparts, while their temperament can be mild and docile, they very often exhibit the wild traits of their coyote parent. they are a very unpredictable breed. coydogs, like coyotes, are not the most sociable and often only form a strong bond with one person and their primary caretaker. however, there have been cases of early socialization and training that makes them loving parts of a family.
coydogs are typically very healthy and strong, and their typical issues only consist of joint problems. they have a lifespan of 5-15 years depending on where they live and how they are(or aren’t) taken care of.
kinfirm!!
i came across this hybrid last night on tiktok as someone had been discussing their dog that looks a lot like a coyote. a lot of people in the comments went in to describe coydogs in the comments which led me to my own exploration of the mix. after my own digging, mainly looking at photos (the fair and few actual coydog pics, not just dogs bred to look like yotes) and their temperament.
i found that this is is my kintype! i spent almost my whole life (since knowing about otherkinity) identifying myself as a mix between a retriever and a lab, and some unidentified wild candid like a coastal wolf or a coyote. now, surely i still feel very connected to retrievers, i do believe i am a mix between a coyote and a retriever. i share a shorter coat with my coyote side. most of my traits come from my coyote side, with few traits of my domesticated side i can hardly name.
the behavioral traits i have from my coydog kintype is that of a once-wild animal in a domestic environment. i have a very internalized wildness that claws at my ribs to show. i have the skittishness of a wild yote and the loyalty of a retriever
photos!!
the first two pictures are absolutely coydogs. i look like a mix between the second and third photo. the third period claims to be a coyote x retriever, however i will remain skeptical on what i find online. the final image is from a reddit post asking if it’s possible for a coyote and a dog to breed and a photo of their dog. i share a similar build to the last pic mixed with the third, and many of the patterns of the second pic.

i hope you enjoyed my ramblings!!

Just a long messy ramble once again, specific exploring myself as a draconic coyote and small things alongside it
I am a coyote in all senses, my core, soul, being, roots is all coyote in some shape way or form. Often enough, this includes my draconic side of my identity
I see myself as a wyvern in a way, clawed and pawed wings I use for flight and balance but primarily use my hind legs to walk and run, even with my extra set of arms behind my wings. I support coyote patterned fur and a long coyote tail; my muzzle also being more or less canine-like. You can see some of the visualization here <3
My draconic identity is somewhat fluid, it comes and goes but my coyote half isn't, it's purely solid as a brick. Though, lately, especially in these last months, my draconic side hasn't wavered, it's been strong and solid, I believe it's possible that I'm becoming more draconic in nature alongside my coyote self; meaning that as I am a coyote, I am also a dragon. I am a draconic coyote
I also believe funny enough I've been supporting small dragon behaviors, at least I've seen it, throughout my life. Especially with my own draconic hoard / collections. I specifically collect coyote items. Guess I gotta surround myself with my species huh? A little funny but I've been doing it since highschool. Coyote plushies, pins, art, stickers, vulture culture, education, and so on. That's my main thing, coyote related items and content make me feel content, it feels right, and it feels like it's connected in a way to my draconic instinct
I always have collected some small various stuff and still do, especially now alongside my coyote collection being rocks, bones, autumn related items, and of course fandom related items. Especially fandom items, I have a collection growing through that too since my highschool years, as my main hoard does, it too feels right or connected to my own draconic side
I also often vision myself in other senses as a dragonic coyote. I see myself, I feel as if myself should be a protector of my kind. If you know anything regarding my species history, you know the cruelty coyotes faced by colonial hands. By extension nature as well. It's possible I am simply just protective by nature but protecting has always been one of my core parts of my identity. I believe this could be apart of that. It's possible I may be wrong, but at the moment of writing this, it feels reasonable enough. I believe being native also plays and ties into this however. Though, I deeply believe that's for another time and another essay
Another thing that feels solid and that has always pulled me back to my draconic identity is flight and how I take flight. Yes. I know I know it's a common subject with dragons, and I fully get why. I vividly remember the first time I went on a plane, I was still a teenager, and that was the first time I was involuntarily thrown into a great "shift". Unsure of the best word to phrase it but "mental shift" or possibly an imaginary shift works;
Regardless. I felt my heavy wings and form, phantom limbs bothered me in my small seat without much room to stretch, but looking down at the clouds I felt my mind just run. I could almost physically feel the wing, my wings out stretched and moving in a rhythmic pattern to keep flight and to move in flight, the tense muscles in my shoulders and legs and bones. I especially could feel my fur, how my fur moved in the heavy winds that blanketed my body. It was a daydream but it felt so intense and real, it was wonderful ... and it never left me. That feeling never left me
On and off beforehand I was already exploring the possibility as a dragon, already knew myself as a coyote, but truly I think being able to experience a flight for that one time in my life, I felt something rewire in my mind or solidify my draconic identity
This long winded (ha) rant is already messy and rambly as it is so I want to give it a close, write something more solid later, but lately I believe I am fully able to settle in more comfortably with the idea that I am a draconic coyote
My identity as a coyote shifter typically fits either as a werecoyote or just an animal, but I believe it's time to understand and accept that likely my draconic coyote identity is just as up there as that. I am a dragon <3
One of these days I plan on making a proper term for myself for my specific species of dragon if it doesn't already exist (please if it does lmk <3), but for now, I like the ring draconic coyote has to it
Thank you for reading if you did !! I'm sure this rant was long and exhausting as it is haha

What is a Kulreulian?
A Kulreulian is a human—genetically altered and neurologically transformed by a highly evolved strain of the rabies virus. No longer entirely human, and yet not fully something else, Kulreulians exist on the edge of science fiction and biological horror—living evidence of nature’s darkest mutations.
──────────────────
The Rabies Virus: A Brief Overview
Rabies is a neurotropic virus most commonly transmitted to humans through the saliva of infected animals, typically via a bite. In the United States, known carriers include bats, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, and skunks, while in developing countries, stray dogs remain the primary vector.
Once symptoms begin—hallucinations, hydrophobia, aggression—the virus is almost always fatal. For centuries, this knowledge drove medical efforts to contain and eliminate rabies through vaccines and post-exposure treatments.
──────────────────
The Collapse of Control: Rabies in the 21st and Early 22nd Century
By the late 21st century, these treatments began to fail. Despite humanity's best efforts, the virus adapted.
Subtle mutations allowed rabies to resist traditional vaccines. At first, the changes were barely noticed—occasional anomalies in treatment success rates. But over time, the strain became more aggressive, more intelligent in its infection patterns, and far more resilient.
It began attacking the nervous system in novel ways, exploiting pathways previously untouched. It altered behaviors more deeply, more completely. It no longer simply killed—it rewrote.
The Evolutionary Leap
As the virus evolved, it began integrating into the human genome. Its mutations extended beyond neurology, seeping into the very DNA of its hosts. The infected didn’t just suffer symptoms—they changed. Their bodies adapted to the virus. Their minds were reshaped. And their physiology began to reflect a terrifying new hybridization.
These altered humans—dubbed Kulreulians or Inhumans—represent a form of forced evolution. They exhibit heightened physical abilities, intelligence, extreme resistance to pain.
──────────────────
The Birth of a Kulreulian: Viral Legacy in the Womb
Despite its lethality, the evolved rabies virus—now considered a sentient strain by some xenovirologists—demonstrated remarkable strategic adaptation in the 22nd century. Once infected, a human host might show no signs of disease. In fact, most never do.
Modern vaccines, though increasingly ineffective in eliminating the virus completely, have succeeded in one way: they suppress active neurological infection. However, this only forces the virus to evolve further.
Rather than destroying its host, the virus waits.
Dormancy and Inheritance
In its dormant state, the virus embeds itself deep within the host's genome, undetected by the immune system and unaffected by standard antivirals. It lingers silently—harmless in appearance, but always present.
The true transformation doesn’t occur in the infected individual, but in their offspring.
During pregnancy, the virus exploits a narrow biological window. As the fetus begins to form, the virus—carried within the mother or father—activates. It bypasses immunological defenses and integrates into the developing embryo at the genetic level.
Over the course of nine months, the virus alters neurological pathways, enhances musculoskeletal development, and triggers dormant genes associated with primal survival instincts. The result is a child that is born fundamentally different from its parents.
──────────────────
Anatomy of a Kulreulian Birth
These children emerge with distinct features: heightened muscle density, sharpened reflexes, and eyes adapted for tracking movement in low light.
Every Kulreulian born this way is also a carrier. The virus lies encoded in their biology, present in their saliva, blood, and tissue. While the chances of transmission vary, a bite from a Kulreulian has a significantly high probability of spreading the dormant virus to others.

I think learning to communicate with an animal is like learning another language. Lots of people think, "Wow, I'd like to learn another language someday", and maybe they give it a good try, but most don't go through with it. It's a flight of fancy. Likewise, people who can *actually* thoroughly train and communicate with an animal, such as a domestic dog, cat, bird, etc. are few and far inbetween. I believe most pet-owners aren't fluent in communication with their pets, and that might abide for whatever purpose they choose to have a pet for, but there's always something lost in translation.
The worst is when someone decides to be a pet-owner without even attempting to learn the language. An example would be most owners on the show, "My Cat From Hell". The cats on that show behave "poorly" in their owners' eyes because they tear up furniture, hiss, scratch people, spray, etc. All undesirable human traits. However, these are all normal traits for a cat (who is stressed, traumatized, defensive, and most times just straight up under-stimulated) to have. It is frustrating to watch people who have no business owning a pet saying their animals are "unbehaved".
Worse still is people who think they can "commune" with wild, undomesticated (although I find domestication itself quite tricky to wrap my head around) animals. We hear about so many casualties due to exotic pets attacking the people who own them. The humans, in these cases, often attempt to raise wildlife like they would a human child - which is to say, with an expectation that the bare minimum of providing basic needs to it would enable it to have some kind of acknowledgement of morals. But this is silly. A tiger does not have morals. Neither does a chimp. Both of these animals are way stronger than you and both exhibit high aggression and hierarchical behavior in natural-born environments. It's idiotic to think that some part of this behavior is not genetically inherited. You can take a tiger out of the forest, but you can't escape that it is a 600lb animal evolved to chase prey.
We shouldn't pretend that animals can fully understand us. We also shouldn't use this to mean that all animals are less intelligent than us and therefore we can abuse them by shoving them into cages for food and profit. Because we, humans, have moral codes, foresight, and a higher capacity for pattern recognition, the onus is on us to effectively communicate ourselves to other animals (with training domestic animals and respecting with wildlife).
An untrained dog and a coyote both aren't going to understand you if you say, "Back!" even if you say it super eloquently and clear. Because they can't understand human languages. It's on you to (a) train your dog using the wealth of dog psychology that has been built by humanity's rich history of dog rearing, and (b) learn to protect yourself from wild coyotes by scaring them away from humans.
(A/N: This is not a diss on animal captivity, but it is a diss on a lot of pet ownership & wildlife interaction.)

You chose dare!
Give us a one-shot of Coyote and Pala where they are adopted by a current-day group of humans and their roomba. (assume they aren't being actively hunted at the moment)
Hi! I've been off for a few days, but I liked this prompt a lot. Thank you so much! Here's what I've got:
Things Are Okay
At first, Iris wouldn’t even stay in the same room as Coyote. Its initial attempts at establishing contact with her were abject failures. Squatting on its haunches, perfectly motionless with one hand extended toward her in greeting, Coyote would watch her reaction. Her behavior was remarkably consistent if uninterrupted:
Visual contact → halt all motion → standby for approximately three to six seconds → lower body closer to floor, preparing to bolt if necessary. After another eight to twelve seconds, she would take her chances and trot away, keeping her eyes on Coyote until line of sight was obstructed. Effective threat response, but if the intent was to reduce the chance of detection by staying motionless, she really shouldn’t swish her tail around.
Coyote hadn’t meant to cause her stress, but it did so by simply existing in her territory. Pala elicited much less of a response, probably because it and Iris were about the same size. Coyote also guessed that Iris’s pattern recognition software probably had a better idea what to make of Coyote’s humanoid chassis than Pala’s arthropod design. She absolutely knew what to make of Coyote’s serrated teeth, so it made sure to keep its mouth sealed when she was nearby.
Now, a few months after initial contact, she was purring in its lap. Coyote used a blanket to provide a soft surface for her to rest on—cermet armor was less than inviting. It reached down, claws covered by soft plastic caps, and pressed into the white fur around her ears. She pushed her head up into Coyote’s hand, eyes sliding shut, and stretched her forelegs out. A pang of anxiety registered as she did so, but Coyote forced the warning aside. Its claws were capped. The reticle over its vision confirmed that the flechette gun behind its palm was unloaded, the action locked open. Iris was safe.
Maya was across the room, reading in an armchair. Lowering her book, she watched, raising a mug of tea to her lips.
“She’s taken a liking to you,” she said.
“She has,” said Coyote. “Goes both ways.”
They sat for a while, listening to the rain against the window panes. Coyote looked out into the wall of green outside. Elms and pines rose above the undergrowth, leaves dark and wet. “Taking some time for the kids to get back today,” it said. “I can’t get a lock on Sanvi’s phone.”
“You more or less told her you could track it. As long as it’s on.”
Coyote paused. Cocked its head and smiled a little. “Oh. I get it.”
“The buses run slower in this weather. They’re okay.”
“Sorry.”
“For what?” she said, smiling. “Worrying about my daughter?”
“Not exactly used to safety yet,” it said.
Pala’s signal was moving nearby, coming down the stairwell. It came into view as it reached the landing above the living room. On the step above it was the roomba, whirring along quietly. An antenna had been added to the roomba, held in place by superglue and a few wires running into the casing. Coyote heard a series of radio commands leap from Pala to the roomba. The machine turned, rolling neatly onto Pala’s back, and it transferred the machine to the next step down. Each time it finished sweeping a step, Pala repeated the process.
[Having fun?] Coyote said.
[This machine serves my inexorable will. I’m its god,] Pala said. [Yeah, it’s pretty okay.]
[That’s good.]
[I have a confession to make.]
[Let’s hear it.]
[You know the Millers?]
[Yeah. Patricia and Henry Miller, live next door at 202. Why?]
[Almost all of their appliances have wireless control.]
Coyote turned, glanced at Pala. [You didn’t.]
[No. But I could.] Pala said.
[We really need to find you something to do on a daily basis.]
[Oh, is that right? You and the cat still on the same nap schedule?]
[Excuse me, I’ll have you know I did a bang-up job of cleaning the gutters.]
[Records indicate that task took you thirty minutes.]
[True. Yeah, we could both use a little—]
“What are you two talking about?” Maya asked.
“Sorry,” said Coyote and Pala, their electronic voices in uncanny unison. Their entire radio conversation had taken place in less than six seconds. Over the past few months, Coyote and Pala had become more accustomed to the format of each other’s thoughts, and Coyote had even installed sections of Pala’s bleeding-edge operating system into itself. The new software made it feel as though its mind was oiled, free from inefficiencies that it didn’t even realize were there.
“It’s alright, I’d just like to be in the loop,” said Maya.
“Kind of thinking about where we go from here,” said Pala, deactivating the roomba.
“You and your family have been really kind to us,” Coyote said. “I’ve said it before, but we can’t thank you enough for taking us in. It just feels wrong to sit around here doing nothing.”
“Doing nothing?” Maya said, raising her eyebrows. “The two of you cook, you clean, you tutor the girls, you run errands, you can fix just about anything, and you don’t cost us a dime. Electricity, maybe, but the bill has barely changed. We’re more than happy to have you.”
Coyote cocked its head. It hadn’t considered that any of those tasks constituted actual work. They were just routines it followed, motions performed day in and day out. None of them required significant processing power or placed any strain on its components.
“Are you thinking of leaving?”
“I don’t think so. Not sure where we’d go.”
“Well, I’m glad to hear that. At this point, the girls would be heartbroken. If you’re having trouble finding work, maybe I can help. What are you interested in doing?”
Maya made the remark offhandedly, but the effect on Coyote was profound. Its sensory fins slowly rose, and it stared at her. It and Pala could seek employment, have a career—that was an option. Presented with the concept now, it was shocked that something so obvious had escaped it. Once the dam was cracked, everything that her suggestion entailed also made itself clear.
Survival was no longer a question. It was assumed. In the absence of that overriding objective, new ones could be defined. They could find a pursuit they loved and follow it. They could find something they didn’t really love, and pursue it anyway because it was rewarding, profitable, necessary, or whatever the hell else. They could seek interesting challenges, or education, or to benefit others.
Coyote realized that Maya probably expected them to explain what was stopping them. Of course the prospect would have occurred to the pair of spirits she had offered shelter to, but some obstacle must be holding them back. Of course there would be something they wanted, something they were interested in. It was just something that people did.
The corollary to that: Maya truly and implicitly thought of them as people.
Maya looked on, brows knitting together with concern. “Is something wrong?”
“No, everything’s okay,” Coyote finally said. It glanced at Pala, who was also silent. In its lap, Iris made a purring sound and nuzzled its claws. “I just don’t think we’ve ever been asked that question.”

TW: the current Neil Gaimen situation
Been hearing about the Neil Gaimen situation and I have to say, if what's being said is true I can't say im surprise,
Especially given his (tmk) consistent pattern of lying, cheating, two-faced behavior in general and behind the scenes politicking among quite a few other things (really taking after Moore in that respect but unlike Moore, Neil was able to actually mask how much of a ahole he was for a while, at least to the public),
This is including the massive amount of shadyness surrounding his family and there scientology connections (he actually, to my understanding made a musical about a time his family did the bear minimum to help a mentally ill man, with him eventually killing himself, he painted the man as a asshole in the musical mind you, really showing ya care about the mentally ill, aren't ya Neil) not to mention the offensively bad dumpster fire that was American Gods (at least imo)
Not only do I think the rules of the universe are fundamentally flawed, but the Coyote slander and misunderstanding and later Johnny Appleseed mischaracterization were both points that genuinely made me gutterally upset, especially since this story was supposed to be "the best modern story on mythology everrrr" and instead I was met with the shit fanfiction written by a snoody jackass who turns out, is allegedly a quite the bad sex pest
Honestly, I take NO pleasure in writing this at all, I genuinely enjoy and love Neil Gaimen's work, the way he expanded and explored and added a certain, unique texture to the cosmology of DC comics inspired a great deal in my approach to the cosmology of my own stories for example, he is a fantastic story teller, to bad he's a shit man, oozing with hypocrisy and greed, and it sucks that I have to add another asterisk to another name on my list of inspirations
I'm mad yes, but not flamingly upset, that burnt out quite a while ago, and now I just feel particularly solemn at this whole situation
(And, on the most bittersweet and depressing note, at least I'm used to and know how to separate the art from the artist for myself, I've had to do it so much I might aswell be a pro lol)

How to Trap Coyotes
Coyote trapping is an art that blends science, patience, and a bit of old-fashioned know-how. Whether you're managing a farm, protecting livestock, or contributing to wildlife conservation efforts, understanding the ins and outs of trapping these clever canines can make all the difference. Let's dive into the essentials of coyote trapping, from the behavior of these adaptable predators to the legalities and ethics of setting the perfect trap. Key Takeaways: - Coyote behavior is crucial for effective trapping. - Legal and ethical considerations are paramount. - Proper equipment and preparation set the stage for success. Understanding Coyote Behavior Coyotes are some of the most adaptable and intelligent predators in North America. They thrive in a variety of habitats, from dense forests to urban sprawls. Their behavior changes with the seasons, affecting their activity patterns and how they interact with traps. In spring and summer, they're often on the move with pups in tow, making them more cautious. Come fall and winter, their focus shifts to hunting and survival, potentially making them easier to lure into traps. Seasonal Behavior Impact: Season Behavior Impact on Trapping Spring Rearing pups, cautious Increased wariness, trap shyness Summer Expanding territories More exploratory, but cautious Fall Hunting, food gathering Higher trap success rates Winter Survival mode Potentially easier to lure Legal Considerations and Ethics Before setting a single trap, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations. These can vary widely from one jurisdiction to another and may dictate everything from the type of traps you can use to how often they must be checked. Ethical trapping practices not only ensure the welfare of the coyotes but also protect non-target wildlife and pets that might stumble upon your traps. Ethical Trapping Practices: - Use humane traps that minimize harm. - Check traps regularly to avoid unnecessary suffering. - Release non-target animals safely. Equipment and Preparation The right equipment is your best ally in the field. A basic coyote trapping kit includes foothold traps, cage traps, or snares, each with its own set of advantages.
