With the news of Smilk dropping on the 4th anniversary I’m curious as to if he’ll be the last Beast or somewhere in the middle

I feel like not having him be last would lessen the impact of his official playable appearance for some reason but at the same time I don’t know how they could fit two other Beasts in the span of 2-3 months before him

Ok but what if TR killed someone for Shadowmilk when he *really* didn't need to. What if. What if he's horrified and confused by his actions because not only did he murder someone, but he did it because they wanted to hurt Shadowmilk.

Umm yeahhh, my apologies, that's a nah for me. Vani even at his worse (Recluse) has shown again and again he's not willing to hurt others. If Recluse were to commit murder in Smilk's name it'd have to be mind-control or Smilk somehow was able to break Vani further than humanly possible.

Throughout the entirety of ep 8, he can't help but protect everyone. Smilk himself know it very well which is why he used Gingergang to take advantage of Vani's protective instincts, Recluse would go as far as committing what's basically suicide for them (the Yogurt river). In fact, the only one Recluse has shown clear animosity toward is Smilk. If there's someone Recluse is willing to kill/left for death it's Smilk lol

Maybe I'm being too harsh but I've seen yandere!Vani appeared a lot in p*relily content and they're never done well, it's hard to twist Vani's character into committing cruelty without making him ooc and most of the time my girl Lily would get reduced to just an object for him to obsess over. Which is, eugh...

I DO however get the appeal of having such a kind character turn "evil" in a sense, you're on the right track by focusing on Vani's near-compulsive need to protect his love ones, now let's add guilt, his tendency to hide things and act out under his misguided good-will... Maybe that'll work? idk I don't like yandere!Vani, his stubborn kindness is a large part of his the appeal for me.

I feel like some beast/ancient discourse boils down to you guys viewing queerness as something that need to be inherently sanitized which is. Weird. Fictional queer relationships deserve nuance that can be toxic. They are not fluffy and happy 100% of the time. Lol

Something something, sometimes the CRK fan base is too serious/protective over some ships, especially PureLily! Just saying that if you do not like another person's taste in ships, don't make your reasoning for it be “because it's not canon”

This mostly goes to the PureLily shippers. As much as we love the ship, it's not canon. In fact, we'd argue that ElderLily has more canonical romantic undertones

Hearing about Shadowvanilla discourse (or any ancient x beast shipping discourse really) from one of the purgatory websites like TikTok or Twitter (I’m not calling that shit a single letter. He deadnames his child I deadname his website) is so fucking wild because like. This is some basic ass enemies to lovers. It’s not even that toxic. Like a 6 out of 10 at most. 4 out of 10 if we’re being realistic. 2.5 if you’re freaky.

Like they’re such fucking obvious ships too (except Dark Cacao x Mystic Flour. I respect it of course but that man has never had sex and if he did it was to create his son only. Can you fucking imagine how many tries that would take if you really just weren’t into it tho? He also doesn’t have the emotional space for romance he’s too busy standing there looking very serious. My Aroace king unless it’s funny. I’m getting off track-).

And y’all are getting DEATH THREATS??? Say fucking WHAT NOW! Maybe I just have too much of a life and touch too much grass but even getting a “hey that’s weird,” would be fucking perplexing. Yeah I like this because I like when stories have conflicts and themes, as stories are wont to do. I like when the narratives foils have even more to narratively foil about. This really is not hard to understand.

Like Shadowvanilla is fucking awesome, Burningcheese is right up my alley too, Eternalberry seems awesome but since we don’t actually have their interactions yet that’s only a hypothesis. All these make for super awesome stories I don’t see what the problem is. “It’s abusive!” I sure hope so? How’re we gonna get from bad to good if we don’t start at bad? I want a problem, a struggle, a climax, and then a resolution. I’m trying to read a story here, not a weather report.

Is it just that these are (mostly) child friendly pastry people so it’s probably mostly teenagers and tweens who are in the “forming identity and opinions” stage of their life that are starting this shit? I think it’s that. Anyway I haven’t used Twitter in literal years now and you could not pay me money to make a TikTok. Get off those websites they’re bad for the soul and the mind. Or don’t I’m not your dad.

i love how accepting tumblr is about shadowvanilla (as a non-actual fan of cookie run, i suppose it is quite common for people to be this way about ships in this or any other fandom)

okay enough with the ship discourse! let's lighten the mood with some season 10 discussions! I'm really really excited to see the latter half of the story, and I'm super curious how this will going into next months update too! chocolate bark, and whatever second cookie that'll come in july, I cannot wait to see how things play out, the dragons have some of the most interesting lore in all of CR history (second only to the Novas hehehe my awesome space super sentai family 😄)

I actually meant to make a separate post talking about my thoughts on Season 10 of Ovenbreak, but I was always too busy to do so. Your ask gives me an excuse lol

I have LOVED this update so far. It's so great. The story is so great. Longan Dragon being 1000000000000 kilometers long and looking like an eldritch horror? Basically being Jörmungandr from Norse myth? Peak. Longan Dragon trapping everyone in some kind of mind prison and forcing them to endure constant pyschological assault? Peak. More dragon family lore? Peak. Chocolate Bark? Peak, I love him, he's so handsome and perfect, if only he was in Kingdom too

I think what I've enjoyed most so far is:

Dark Choco and Chocolate Bark backstory. I really enjoy their little mentor/student bond. CB is such a fun dude. He's tough but he's lighthearted and has a sense of humor. The way he speaks to DC is so charming, he's like a older brother or uncle almost

I think Dark Choco really needed someone like this in his life, you know? It's a big shame he left, even if it was for an important mission. It makes me wonder how differently things would've turned out if he'd stayed.

Also...

"My father" this, "my father" that. #SayHisName, Devsis lol

It's cool to get official confirmation that the Dark Cacao Kingdom exists (existed?) in Ovenbreak as well. And by extension, Dark Cacao himself exists (existed?) there too. And... he's not the most affectionate dad still lol. It's ok, he's still my favorite Ancient and Kingdom character. I am begging and pleading Devsis for more lore on this, hell give us a whole update focusing on Dark Choco PLEASE, he's been so neglected in OB and it's been a huge shame because he gets more attention in Kingdom. I love Dark Choco, I love how tragic he is, I love his redemption arc. (It's admittedly... less compelling here than it is in CRK, but that can be fixed with a Dark Choco-focused update imo)

I just really, really adore seeing the dragons interact with each other. I love their dynamic SO much, they're my favorite group in this whole series. I'm nutso about them individually and as a family/clan. It's been awesome learning more about Lychee and Longan especially; I love Lychee's unwilling attachment to Rambutan and her apparent longing for proper attention from/bonding with Longan, I love the way the Pitaya-Ananas-Lotus trio bicker and banter, THE LONGAN CHARACTER STUDY‼️‼️‼️ Pitaya may be my favorite dragon but Longan is the most complex and interesting one by far. The warped affection he feels for his family. The need to protect and govern them. The way he perceives time and the world at large. His sociopathic desire for absolute control and revenge for perceived injustices. The way he tries to manipulate the others into agreeing with him and going along with his plans (those scenes in the Dark Realm are fucking crazy. The way he warps and weaponizes their emotions and memories is actual textbook abuser/cult brainwashing shit)

What the actual fuck dude. Ok, Charles Manson lol. And I thought Shadow Milk was bad. (No lie I find Longan Dragon 10x more intimidating than Shadow Milk. He exudes an aura that SM simply does not. THIS is power. THIS is boundless knowledge sharpened into a blade and held against your throat. Shadow Milk may be a god but Longan Dragon is above even godhood. I'm way more scared of Longan than any of the Beasts)

Biggest scene for me though?

WHAT??? LAST SURVIVOR OF THE FLOWER DRAGONS??? WHAT???????????

In hindsight... yeah it was kind of obvious something was up with Lotus Dragon lol. The one flower in a group of fruits. Pretty on the nose. But it's still crazy to think about, you know? What happened to the other Flower Dragons? Why is Lotus the only one left? How did the other Fruit Dragons feel about taking her in? How did SHE feel about that, essentially being adopted by a rival clan? What if they had something to do with the Flower Dragons' demise? They better address this in the next half of the story istg. I will lose it. I WILL write a sternly worded email to Devsisters. I WILL cry

What this says about Longan's character is also quite interesting. It appears that his respect and affection for dragons actually does extend beyond his own immediate family. Enough to take in an orphan. This capacity for compassion and generosity is so unlike how Longan normally behaves. It makes for a really fascinating pivot from his usual modus operandi and adds a lot of depth to his thinking and character

(honestly, this makes me want and hope for Longan Dragon's surrender even more. I've always thought that Longan willingly standing down and ceding victory to the other dragons would be more impactful than him simply being beaten the normal way, aka through the Power of Friendship and Punching Stuff. I want Longan's love for his family to win in the end. I want him to come to realize that he really would have no choice but to eradicate his family in order to achieve his goals, and then forfeit because he could never bring himself to do it. They're the reason why he's doing any of this in the first place. I don't want him to change his mind about mortals or anything, he can stay a genocidal race supremacist lol. I just think it would be more interesting if he willingly stopped what he was doing just because he can't let go of his kin. Perhaps he truly is only clinging to an idyllic past long dead. It would hurt. Hurt his pride, his ego. But their preservation would require the destruction of his clan and he cannot stand for that. THEY are his mission. THEY are his dream. Yes, Longan will forever mourn this loss as he shall forever mourn the past itself. But at least he'll still have those four afterwards. Even if they hate him.)

Am I the only one who finds it weird how people have just started shipping PV and SM after the last two updates after the whole fandom criticized it for being “proship” and “problematic” but now that’s it’s popular people are just pretending it never happened??? I'm probably biased in my negative view but....People who arrived for the ship after ep 7 just seem to be really allergic to the messy and 'unpleasant' (to them) parts of the ship, to the point where implementing the canonical unhealthy parts of the relationship makes the audience raise eyebrows and wonder where it came from (FROM CANON !!! IT CAME FROM CANON, WHAT DO YOU MEAN-). Unless you follow specific people who still remember the intricacies of the ship + how many layers this dynamic has, sdvn became an amalgamation of many popular mlm ships that are just people wishing to project what they like onto them; a sad sight

Ughhhhhhhhh I rlly don't want to complain since at the end of the day it's just fans having fun n doing what fandom is for, expanding on canon while adding their own flair into it. BUT buttt it get to a point..... Nowadays whenever I *do* look, I can barely find content that touched on half the complexity that make this ship so good in the first place. Don't get me wrong I love wholesome content of my ship as much as the next guy, I love fluff as much as angst!

About what you say about fans being allergic to the messy parts of the ship, I've seen some/ have talked to oomfies who complains about fans babying smilk n making vani more aggressive than he should be, up until the point where all their character traits have been switched. The majority are jokes like "haha what if pv is a mean fucker?" "what if smilk is a pathetic weak widdle baby?" but it has gotten so widespread that peps actually are treating it as their canon personalities. I'm guessing this is due to an attempt to make the ship "healthier"? It doesn't work for me, it just goes full circle but with the roles reversed. Till this day the majority of the fandom still believe truthless recluse is "evil" vanilla, even though he's just understandably withdraw n depressed after what he went through. I used to yell about this a lot in DMs and now I'll say this in public too RECLUSE IS A VICTIM trying to make him "equal" to smilk somehow is ignoring a large part of his character and I'll stand by that. #justiceforrecluse

As someone who have shipped them since ep 2 I'm quite passionate about shadowvanilla you see... Both shadow milk+pure vanilla are such amazingly written characters, their dynamic is so important to me. I'm not pointing fingers but with the way some shippers treat these two... I wonder if they only like the shell of the characters and the content inside doesn't matter.
