An old "car cemetery" dating back to World War II in Chatillon, Ardennes Forest, Belgium, Europe

Many American soldiers on the Western Front during World War 2 purchased cars for personal use. When the war ended, they were responsible for shipping their vehicles back. But they proved too expensive to ship home. Many American service men could not afford to do this, so many cars were brought to a clearing in the forest and abandoned in this eerie graveyard.

The walls sweat a yellowish tint stained from decades of cigarette smoke and cheap bourbon breath. No renovations since the summer of ’87. The paint peels in long curling strips like dead skin and the ceiling fans cough instead of spin.

Back in the early ’70s this place was a clean familiar stop, a decent roadside joint where truckers and families could eat a hot meal, no roaches in sight, no powder behind the toilets. Coffee refills were free and folks knew your name.

Now the neon out front sputters half dead the E and L in MOTEL barely holding on. The carpets reek of mildew, piss and old carpet glue, long since given up on pretending. Cigarette burns dot the furniture like constellations mapped out by addicts killing time between hits.

A couple of junkies nod off in the corner, needles still dangling from limp hands, plastic motel chairs creaking beneath them. Someone’s TV blares a late night infomercial no one’s watching.

The American Dream sleeps here now too on its side, face down, overdosed in a pay by the hour room with stained curtains drawn.

Outside rain mixes with oil in the parking lot making little rainbow puddles no one notices. The ice machine’s broken, the vending machine hums like it knows a secret and somewhere upstairs, a couple fights quietly through the walls, careful not to wake the kids they forgot how to raise.

I feel like i’m the only one who feels this..

But Little Nightmares III doesn’t feel like Little Nightmares anymore

I miss the void of the first two games. The rot. The wrongness of the place

The way the greenish gloom and the humming crept into your bones

How every room felt like your last

You weren’t solving puzzles with friends all the time

You were running from things you didn’t understand

..and then becoming part of them in the end (Little Nightmares 2)

It was growing into something monstrous just to keep breathing

And now it feels like a co-op game

It feels more like ‘It Takes Two’

But Little Nightmares was never meant to be bright, quirky or fun

It was meant to leave you sick

And I miss that
