A Ghost of a Chance: Tim Moves to Amity Park

Tim Drake never expected to end up in Amity Park.

It wasn’t the kind of place you’d move to voluntarily—not if you valued normalcy, peace, or, you know, not being attacked by spectral entities on the regular. But when Danny asked—his voice soft, eyes hopeful—Tim couldn’t say no.

Amity was Danny’s home.

And maybe, just maybe, it could be Tim's too.

At first, it wasn’t bad. Tim had seen worse. Gotham had prepared him for everything, right? But there was something about Amity Park that made the shadows seem deeper, the nights colder. The constant hum of the town’s protective shields, the flicker of green in the sky—like the city itself was watching.

Danny blended back in seamlessly, slipping into old routines like he’d never left.

Tim… didn’t.

The ghosts were different. Gotham’s rogues, at least, followed patterns. There was a rhythm to crime, a predictability to chaos. Ghosts didn’t play by those rules. They came and went as they pleased, driven by grudges older than time. One day they’d fight beside you, the next, they’d haunt you.

Tim couldn’t get a read on them. Couldn’t strategize. Couldn’t feel useful.

And the more time passed, the more he felt like he was sinking.

The bats haunted him too. Every time his phone buzzed, he half-expected to see a message from Dick or Bruce, maybe even a snarky text from Jason. But it was always quiet. No calls. No emergencies. The silence felt heavier here, like it pressed against his chest.

Danny had Amity. He had the support of people who knew him. Tim was just... there. A shadow on the edge of Danny's world. Everyone knew Danny—Phantom, their hero. They didn’t know Tim. Didn’t know who Danny was to him. More than that, they didn’t seem to care.

Tim couldn’t shake the feeling. Replaceable. At least when Jason had thrown that word at him, Tim knew there was always something he could work on to feel needed. A case to solve, a system to hack, a mission to plan.

With Danny, there was... nothing. No crises to solve, no skills that set him apart. No place where he fit.

Danny didn’t need him.

And maybe that was the worst part.

They started drifting. Danny would leave in the middle of the night, chasing ghosts Tim didn’t understand. He’d wake up alone in a bed that felt colder by the day. The quiet wasn’t the comforting silence of the Cave or the stillness of a stakeout. It was empty. Lonely.

Tim wasn’t built for this kind of stillness.

One night, he followed Danny. Watched from the shadows as Danny fought a ghost—a brutal, violent storm of green energy and ice. Danny won, of course. Danny always won. But when he turned back, hair white and eyes glowing, something flickered. Something inhuman.

Tim realized, he doesn’t need me.

He confronted Danny that night. “Tim, you can’t follow me out there.” “Why not? You think I can’t handle it?” “It’s not that—” “Then what is it?” Danny’s eyes softened. “This place… it’s dangerous. The things I face, they’re not like Gotham’s criminals.” “I know danger, Danny. I’ve lived with it my whole life.” “That’s not the point.”

Tim’s voice cracked. “Then what is?”

Danny didn’t answer. And Tim didn’t press.

He stayed because leaving felt like admitting defeat. But sometimes, in the quiet moments, he wondered if love was enough. If Amity Park would ever feel like home. If Danny’s ghosts were more than just spectral enemies—if they were the distance growing between them.

He’d jumped too quickly, left too much behind, trusted too blindly. Maybe he’d wanted to believe that leaving Gotham meant he could start over, that he could belong to something simpler. Easier.

But it wasn’t simple. It wasn’t easier.

Tim missed the bats. Missed the chaos, the noise, the feeling of being needed. Here, he felt like a shadow—an echo of a life he wasn’t sure he’d ever get back. And if he stayed too long, he wasn’t sure there’d be anything left of him. He'd become just another ghost haunting Amity Park.

this is just kinda an amalgamation of thoughts with no point to it but. i've been thinking about how the show would explain it if they had buck move on to another love interest next season. and idk how to word this correctly but the thought i'm having is like... if the only given explanation for bucktommy being over and the relationship not being the right one for buck is that tommy was his first boyfriend, for me what that's doing is legitimising the "i'm not your last, i'm your first" which was a statement born out of insecurity! to me the point of that should be tommy was wrong. i need him to be proved wrong.

otherwise... so the moral of the story here is that tommy was right and that buck doesn't understand his own feeings? that he mistook the excitement of the "novelty" of having a boyfriend for having real feelings for someone? that tommy was just a starter boyfriend and buck needs to "try out" other people (because his relationships with women don't count, obviously). biphobia? on the show that won't even let buck say the word bisexual? surprise! but not just that, i'm kinda sick of the whole treating buck like he's not an almost 34 year old man and is instead an impulsive teenage boy who we can't possibly take seriously when he says something about how he's feeling.

ALSO we know that abby was buck's most transformative relationship up until tommy. that i don't disagree with, buck said it himself. but i don't think we should look at it as tommy is only his most transformative relationship because he's a man and he made buck realise he liked men. is that part of it? definitely. but i don't think this was comparable to his other relationships in so many ways. Buck was, as he said, just so comfortable with him. he let tommy look after him and was never made to feel guilty about it. he wanted to move in with him, and while perhaps it was impulsive it wasn't like with taylor where he asked her to avoid telling her something else. he even brought up marriage unprompted! whereas the whole idea of getting engaged to taylor weirded him out. i don't want this relationship to be reduced to the fact that tommy was a man or that he helped buck "figure himself out".

personally i would like it to be made clear that tommy said what he said purely because he was scared of getting his heart broken, not because there was any truth to it. i can't have this end with buck going "yeah, guess he was right". the important points are, 1, he's not his first, and 2, it doesn't fucking matter if he was. I'm not even saying he HAS to end up with tommy. do i think he should? yes. do i think it would be a massively wasted opportunity and a stupid decision if not? yes. but the point is that if he decides to move on all of a sudden after holding on to these feelings for so long, i want to be given a better reason it couldn't work out 🤷‍♂️

(oh, and just adding that as a tommy enjoyer, i don't like leaving him believing that he isn't good enough, and then having that confirmed when buck moves on with someone "better". but whatever.)

i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.

did you hear about that the zelda notes finally explained what happened to the sheikah tech in totk? a voice memory describes that after the events of botw and link defeating calamity ganon, all the sheikah technology and divine beasts started to crumble and turn to dust, and that the first one to break down was Vah Ruta as seen in the secret ending of botw, the only thing of sheikah tech that remains are replicas made by robbie and purah, it also implies the guardian on top of robbies lab is a replica.

if you think about it it still doesnt make it any better, the stuff in totk being replicas? welll ... obviously they were newly built stuff (off the little there is left...), and replica sounds like a copy when none of the stuff they have there is an actual copy aside from maybe the terminals to get into a tower? also how and when did they do that?? the knowledge about the tech was largely lost and i dont think alot of time passed between the end of botw and the extra scene- why wouldnt they copy guardians or anythign else more useful? the guardian on top of the hateno institute was extremely clearly a super old one, it was unfunctional and overgrown strapped to the roof in botw already- purahs stone thingy and all lanterns and sources of energy went poof too (WHERE DO THEY GET THE POWER FROM NOW?????????????????????????????????????????????), idk if the easter egg prototype titan is still there but that and cherry would be the only thing i can think of that they might have built during the 100 years they had to built stuff in botw (AND CHERRY IS GONE TOO instead a tiny version of her that what, is a shop to get your photos at????????? what?????), and now they just suddendly can built massive things? did they also find out what powers it and how and managed to built a secret replica of a fireborn (idk the english name, the flaming source) that you cant ever find (i cant check i dont have the game anymore but i dont remember a flame or otherwise sourcing thingy in the spypost- not that it would matter, its shiekah tech after all, bleurgh, we got sonau "tech" nowww) and then choose to built pretty useless stuff at that? wouldnt it have been more sensical to preserve the lasers and automations of guardians or something isntead of ... a tower that flings link, and only link mind you, into the air? to scan the ground in an very dangerous manner that is also just miles more stupid and inefficient than the previous towers????? like couldnt add to a tower to scan upwards also??????

romance as part of the video game zeitgeist is. really interesting to me. because it is important! it's a great way to introduce depth and dimension to both character and story: it allows you as a writer to explore other sides of the characters, how they react when their feelings for a character change and develop, how they treat the player character in relation to their own goals and the ways they approach their own feelings. most games (at least, games that aren't specifically of the romance genre, ie otomes/dating sims) allow platonic routes, and while I'd love to see more bestie mechanics implemented (you have a favourite guy who is your closest friend and the game acknowledges this even if it's not romantic) i get that there's issues with scope, and deadlines, and the feasability of inputting everything that I personally would enjoy. i get it.

but. but! it is that. romance is a way to deepen the characterisation, to increase the investment in the story. from a cynical perspective, it is a way to draw in an audience, and i've discussed my feelings about how and how well larian do this before, but - it is a means to an end. it is a part of the story: it is not the story. this is not a romance game. this is a game with a story that is, and should be, unaffected by romance - the individual character arcs, sure, but the overarching plot continues regardless of your marital status, and the characters still deserve complete arcs whether they're of romantic interest to the player or not.

prioritising romance and romantic scenes over other content is one thing; prioritising romance over bugfixing, plot holes, adequate content is, put simply, poor management. the game, and each character arc, should be able to stand alone without romance; alternatively, if you're going to market it as a romance-heavy game, with a focus on romance, it is plain and simple Failure not to provide romance content in equal measure for every character. it can't be a dating sim for astarion and not for wyll; it shouldn't be a romance-centric game for shadowheart and a story-focused game for lae'zel. you can't have it both ways: if it's a romance game, it fails to provide adequate romance content for all characters, and if it's a story game, it fails to prioritise the role each character plays appropriately. I think it's a shame, and I think it's understandable - they've tried to cover all their bases, and neglected both in the process, and the game had deadlines and was released unfinished, but it's been more than six months, and the game remains woefully incomplete in many aspects.

Still thinking about how Clover on the No Mercy Route likely would've given up their quest for vengeance and lived with Martlet had Axis not told them that he killed Integrity. The only real difference between Aborted No Mercy Run Clover and No Mercy Run Clover are a few more destroyed robots and the knowledge of what Axis did, which sent their LOVE skyrocketing to LV 19.

Integrity and why it is so fucking important

The last ask I answered about V sparked an idea to talk to you a little more deeply about individual integrity and why it matters so much.

I see so many people spreading mindless hate, harsh and harmful words. I see so many people "wishing the worst on others" when they don't agree.

Guys. Guys. No.

Most people are not aware of all of this, but there are many hidden truths about why we shouldn't be doing this.

Look, everything you say, do, or think, matters. Everything you say, do, or think is seen.

While you think you are alone living your human experience, and that you think thoughts alone in your head, and that you think you can spread hate because "no one will know".

I'm sorry, but that's not the case. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING about you is seen by the whole universe. There's nothing that can be hidden or concealed. You are perpetually naked in full display for literally everything and everyone to see.

Especially yourself.

Every words you utter, by speaking or writing, is like a spell you do. You do magic constantly. And many people do dark magic constantly by spreading negativity.

Each of you hold a tremedous power to create either love or fear. Each of the little things you do create an effect. You affect everything and everyone, in big or small ways. You are interconnected, and you can't help to be.

And guys, everything, and I really mean everything you do matters.

This power is your own, it's your power of creation. But with that knowledge, comes an even greater responsability.

The responsability to use this power with wisdom.

Will you choose love or fear today? What is your higher ideal? What do you want to get behind? You must ask yourself this question. What do you believe in? Which person do you want to be?

I don't know your answer, but my answer is love. Love is the only thing that truly matters to me. There is nothing higher than this that we are aware of.

So aligning yourself with love, and most of all aligning yourself with words/thoughts/actions that aligns with love, that's the whole name of the game here.

Can we choose love even in tough situations? That's not an easy thing to do. But that's something we all should strive for to grow in consciousness.

I'm not talking about a mushy wishy washy love, love can mean so many different things.

You must find your own wisdom of what that may mean for you.

You must take responsability for your own power. Because everything will be held accountable, especially by yourself.

At the end of your life, do you want to be proud of yourself? Do you want to think you truly tried your best?

That's what I have been telling myself.

That's why I think integrity is so important.

When we are not aware of all of this we can always say "I didn't know", but when you KNOW, there is no going back.

At least there were none for me.

And I know my path won't be everyone's path.

My path as a spiritualist to be the person I am today went through a whole lot of hardships and constant tweaking and improving of my mind. It took years to deprogram the things my parents and the whole society taught us. It took trauma and years of searching. It took metaphorical death and rebirth. It took mental pressure so extreme I thought I wouldn't make it. Today, I'm extremely rigorous, I hold a code that I can't deviate from, even for a little bit. That's my personal responsability. I don't tell you to do the same, because it won't be for everybody.

But if I can make you think even for a second of your words and actions, and that it matters. If I can make you pause to ask yourself what the hell you are doing before speaking or thinking vile words, then it's a win.

Jkkers are behind jikook because we believe in love, we are drawn to it, we celebrate it, we cherish it. It means we can't become hateful, and spread this kind of negativity. We can't become like people who doesn't care about hurting other people.

Once again, what kind of person do you want to be?

There must be some kind of ideal to uphold here.

Otherwise, who are we? Can we really say we deserve to be Jimin&Jungkook's fans, people who are pure of hearts, loving in an unconditional way?
