re: cursing
i'm not going to write a lengthy how-to guide on cursing, but here's the TLDR;
cleanse your space - start fresh, have a clean slate, and calm the energy in the room
protect yourself - now's the time to cast a circle or [insert some other shield or ward]
channel - gather energy; turn on your battery or plug in your charger, so to speak
cast the spell - as usual, do whatever you want
banish - get rid of anything that shouldn't be there and cleanse what's left
ground - shake it off, go drink some water and have a snack

𝔢𝔫𝔢𝔯𝔤𝔢𝔱𝔦𝔠 𝔰𝔥𝔦𝔢𝔩𝔡𝔰 ⋆₊˚ᗢ₊˚♱
a must master skill in witchcraft
summary: intro -> types + scnearios -> how to cast -> disclaimers + final thoughts
(se você fala portugues BR, sinta-se livre para enviar DM ou pedir tradução de um post. boa parte vai estar em inglês, para facilitar minha vida e atingir mais pessoas.)
-`🕯 INTRO 🕯´--------
Energetic shields are just as the name says; they are meant to protect someone or something, but from an energetic/spiritual point of view. In order to cast them, third-party help, such as herbs, talismans, charms, deities, and other spirits, is optional, yet very handy.
-`🕯 TYPES + SCENARIOS 🕯´--------
1 Non-filtered shield: is the type of shield that allows no good or bad can to come in. However, if you are not careful with your intentions, it might result in not letting energy and spiritual beings out either. This one is best to do if you truly wish to be unbothered or even trap something within a residence, or you even (sus), for example. So, whether you are doing it solo or in teamwork (herbs, crystals, rocks, or spirits), you need to clarify your intention much better when it comes to the shield letting things out but not in, or if it won't allow either in or out. 2 Filtered shield: this one basically, as the name says, filters what types of energy or spiritual beings you want around the shielded target. You can make this very specific or broader; it's really up to you to decide what you want in and what you want out. P.S.: You can layer shields, just don't do it too much.
-`🕯 HOW TO CAST 🕯´--------
(read the whole thing before you do it)
Before you cast, it's best not to be overly tired, to cleanse the materials if any are used, energize the materials and yourself, cleanse yourself energetically and physically, meditate a bit before doing it, and to cleanse the space if you are shielding a space. Of course, this is all ideal, and you don't need to check off everything all the time, but make sure to at least do the cleansing and even banishing if necessary.
For this tutorial, I'll be teaching you how to cast a shield using your energy, mainly and the help of your guides, and using a talisman/charm when self-shielding.
Now, with your eyes closed or open, you can start to visualize the shield forming as you make your intentions clear. If you are using a charm/talisman, visualize the shield coming from the talisman and shielding you (make sure to have energized the talisman, charm or crystal or honestly whatever the fuck item you chose to use). As you do this, as I've said, you need to gather up all the energy you can so your intention is clear. So, invoke feelings of protection and speak in your head or out loud about what you want to keep in and what you want to keep out, since words have power. Also, I personally recommend reaching out to your guides. You can call upon them like this: " Those who watch over me, those who look after me I call upon you May you strengthen the shield I place around <my house, me, said person> May you help this shield keep away <whatever it is you want to keep away> May you help this shield let in <whatever it is you want to let in> Thank you " You don't need to full-on say this, but it is better, it's more "ideal". Of course, in some immediate situations, you can also quickly gather emotions and energy, visualize the shield being cast, and strengthen them as time ticks, and just call for help intended for your guides. Here are some images to help you when visualizing the shield:
I personally am not a big fan of speaking, either in my head or out loud, whenever I'm performing. I'm often more inclined to just transmit my energy in a more abstract sense and just "view" what I want. On the other hand, think of words mostly as seals, as in, you're using them to seal off the intention. However, this doesn't work much if you are pairing up with another conscious being, such as a spirit or a deity; thus, make sure to speak in your mind to them what you want.
Either way, for better understanding: 1. Intent is your goal 2. Visualization is a visual version of your goal for a better understanding of what that goal is 3. Energization is gathering energy and sending it on its way to make your intent be achieved (it's the gas to make the car move, basically, and that's the magic).
This can, of course, be broken down many times; it really is up to what you prefer and feels more comfortable.
-`🕯 DISCLAIMERS + FINAL THOUGHTS 🕯´--------
When casting anything, well, when doing anything, you must know that you are limited. So, in the case of casting shields, their effectiveness is highly linked to how powerful you are. Still, yes, I do believe that if you receive help from your spiritual team and use third-party help in general, the shields will be stronger. Yet, at the end of the day, they are linked to your power. You are the source of your magic, so you must not get lazy and half ass things (at least not all the time lol).
And when I mention effectiveness, I'm referring to: - how fast can you cast them - how durable they are - how competent they are
With that in mind, I also want to add that if you are a beginner, you're kinda going on this blindly. So, don't shy away from asking your guides for help and re-doing the shield either weekly (minimum) or every two weeks. I also don't recommend beginners reaching for spirits they do not know. "Oh, but Viki, I don't know my spiritual team!" Well, you might not, but they are sure as hell ain't gonna harm you. Thus, they are the first go-to group you should be reaching out to whenever you need assistance. Because that's their job, helping you.
Also, how often you need to rebuild these shields it's very up to how much of a target of negative stuff you are as well. If you are someone who's practicing like everyday always up to some witchy shit, yeah, you're gonna be a target more often than not, even if it's just from neutral beings. And remember, these shields are not only for you. I have my beloved ones living with me, so I'm very careful with what I choose to do in the house since they can be hurt too by negative beings or energy.
Anyway, that's pretty much the basics of shielding plus some insights! Other witches have their own variations, but the essence remains. This post is very much based on my experience, tutorials I have read/watched in books, articles, and videos from other witches. Feel free to leave any questions or suggestions below, or even share your experiences. Just be respectful.

The focus on defensive magic in online magic spaces is imo not super necessary, and is more of a product of beginner witch's fears and misconceptions than of actual necessity.
I'm about to tell you something that might piss you off. I don't do much protective magic at all. I don't do defensive magic against "bad" spirits. I open all my work up to everyone who wants to be involved in it. I do ask spirits to give me space to do my work, and not to participate in anything that would be detrimental or offensive to them, but I don't kick them out. Why would I? They haven't done anything, and besides, what authority do I have to tell anyone to leave? Am I not an interloper just as much as they are?
And yes, if a spirit is "bad", however you choose to define that, I will handle the situation on a case by case basis. For example, in my experience, demons don't like to leave. They don't like to be ignored. They can become petulant, frightening, or abusive if they feel disrespected. I once summoned a demonic spirit that I didn't know how to unsummon, and it was an Issue. So I protected my body, told the demon that I wanted it to leave, and I asked it what it wanted from me. It told me that it felt as if the debt accrued by its conjuring had not been paid. So I paid it, and said goodbye. It was simple.
Frankly, you don't need to be afraid of anything but your own fear. Yes, if you bring something in your house, you better be good enough at communicating to get it back out again, but if you're constantly defending against anything unpredictable or spooky, you're going to have really boring and unimpressive results.

I crafted a knot bracelet with protective energies. You'll need some yarn thick enough and your mantra to chant while you knot the strings until you reach the end. Pretty simple, noone will notice.

The Magical Meaning and Symbolism of Sharp Objects
The desire to do things correctly, by the letter, is something that I think plagues everyone who’s new to witchcraft (or, really, any type of magical work). I’ve seen it said that there’s no one way to do magic, but there are infinite ways to do it ineffectively, and I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. That said, it’s not always that important to have the exact ingredients that a spell,…

You were surprisingly not kicked out of the school. You were yelled at pretty badly by your second class teacher for the remainder of the class until the bell signalled for everyone to move on to the next class.
Your classmates were all cautious of you now. While most didn't understand what happened, they at least figured the teacher was in the wrong for scaring the animals, not you. They were now all aware of your unconventional spellcasting.
Third class of the day and you felt like you'd been there for years.
Defensive spellcasting.
That was apparently part of the curriculum. You figured perhaps these were wards or protections for casting, something familiar perhaps. Getting into the room, you saw some of the wards you recognised and drew yourself.
This teacher though, was a psychopath that just wanted to pit students against each other. He'd chosen two poor students at random, one to play attacker while the other defended. You got to see first hand how stupid their spellcasting was. They had to shout the name of their spells, broadcasting their moves and allowing the other to put up a shield.
You found the entire class stupid and you didn't even bother to pay attention after the first fight. Magic was being thrown around so carelessly and this wasn't just little amateur spells. Fire was being thrown in the class, some of it actually injuring the students but the teacher just cast a healing spell on them and sent them back into the fight.
Many students' grasp on spells were not suited for these fights and they trembled as they were put on the stage. The bully loved the fights, often volunteering so they could show off and hurt other students in the process.
You rolled your eyes as the teacher attempted to make a lesson out of the fights, instructing in between to point out 'where a student went wrong'.
"Oh, I'm sorry, is this boring to you?" The teacher noticed you weren't paying attention.
You'd had enough of this school now and didn't care if you were kicked out. It was the worst teaching experience you've had and you had a mentor that would abandon you in the woods for a few days to teach you how to survive.
"If all spells need to be spoken, why not just cover the castor's mouth? Why bother with a counter spell?"
"Swap places with our little defender here," the teacher said, pointing to the trembling student on stage standing across from the bully.
You stood up and took their place. From your distance, you couldn't physically cover your bully's mouth but you didn't need to. They grinned, speaking their incantation before you pinched your fingers again and their mouth shut. The teacher paused, not expecting you to not speak as you cast a spell.
"Grant me power, change." The teacher said, gesturing towards you. Before you realised he'd cast a spell on you, your body was morphed into a tabby cat. Though a little painful, this wasn't your first time being turned into an animal.
Once you realised what happened, you flopped to the ground, thrashing against the thin threads of magic that held you in that shape. You rolled and battered against the invisible chains and the magic broke away easily, the castor not intentionally holding on to the spell.
This was something your mentor had trained you on and timed you on how quickly you could break the spell. Forced transmutation was not a permanent spell no matter how powerful the castor. Your body naturally wanted to morph back into your usual form and it was all about unravelling yourself from the castor's magic. Once that happened, you would turn back.
You stood up quickly once you were free of the spell. "You won't always be aware that you have an opponent," your teacher said, "so it's important you always have counter spells at the ready."
"Ignite flame," the bully let out. Since you were transformed, you were no longer holding their mouth closed. They threw the largest fire ball they could at you.
You held your hand out and locked eyes with your bully. They grinned maliciously, "oops, didn't mean to make it a big one. Oh well." They said. The fire ball froze as you kept your eye on the bully's eyes. They were stuck staring back at you, unable to look away and unable to see their own fireball as you'd frozen it in place.
Slowly, your outstretched hand started closing and the air around the bully grew cold. Their breath came out in a mist and slowly their limbs started to be turned to stone. Their breath stuttered as they realised and they began to panic, their fireball extinguishing.
"S-stop." They finally broke your gaze as you stopped casting, not fully closing your hand into a fist. "Help me," they looked at the teacher who just stared impressed.
You hadn't completed the spell, not wanting to turn your classmate into a statue, simply freezing their arms and legs. You dropped your hand, leaving them partially frozen.
"Impressive," the teacher nodded, not helping their student out of the stone.
"You're not teaching, you're just pitting students against each other." You glared at the teacher now, "all you're doing is bolstering bullies and pushing students down. How are you a teacher?!"
"You watch your tongue before I cast it out of your mouth."
"Hmm, sounds like a spell I'd like to learn protection symbols for, too bad they're just wall decoration here." You sneered, noticing your bully trying to struggle out of their stone prison.
"Help," they squeaked out, their voice significantly weaker than before. You knew your spell wasn't hurting them but looking over, they seemed very scared.
"You disrespectful little wretch," the teacher hissed, "I give the wind more power, slam them." They pointed their finger at you and suddenly you were swept off your feet and thrown into a wall, the air being stolen from you as you dropped to the ground.
The other students all cowered in their seats and you collapsed. The teacher pointed again, the wind picking you up and slamming you against the wall again, pinning you. You grimaced as you struggled to breathe against the constant pressure on your ribs.
You couldn't speak. You couldn't lift your hand. If you were any other student, you'd have no chance to defend yourself and the teacher didn't let up on their spell. You would have passed out but luckily you didn't need to point or speak.
You closed your eyes and reached out to the ambient magic, reaching for your own mana too to ensure the spell took affect. The teacher passed out and the wind stopped, dropping you on the ground again.
You might have passed out for a second because you didn't remember anyone near you earlier but now a couple students were hovering over you as darkness cleared from your vision. Their muffled voices started to clear in your ears and you understood them.
"Hey, farm boy, you good?" One asked.
You blinked, "this school needs to be shut down."
"Ha, you're alive. Can you like, release you're spell because uh..." they looked up at the bully who was now near inconsolable, tears streaming down their face as they struggled to breathe in their panic.
You rolled over, struggling to stand as one student helped you up. You stumbled over to the bully who was aware enough to notice you and hissed, "let me go."
"Repeat after me," you said.
"Screw you!"
"My arms are not frozen." You said.
"W-what?"
"Say it."
"My a-armsss a-re not f-f-frozen," they practically sobbed.
"My legs are not frozen." You said.
"M-my-" they broke into more sobbing and shaking, "my legs are not frozen."
"Now look at me," you said and they blinked up at your through tears and snot dripping down their face. "See me? Farm boy? My spell isn't strong enough to hold you still. You're far stronger than that. You believe me?"
"I can't- I can't move," they sobbed more.
"You can. It's just a trick of the light. You're not actually stone. Now repeat. My arms are not frozen, my legs are not frozen."
"My arms are not frozen..."
"Louder, get angry at me for even thinking I could try to freeze you." The bully cried more but noticed when you put a hand on their arm, able to feel it. "Come on, like you mean it. Really believe it, I'm just tricking you right now, you can move."
"I can move." The bully said, still sniffly.
"There we go. Again."
"I can move," the bully said a little louder.
"That's it. One more time, come grab me." You stepped back so they'd have to step forward to grab you.
"I can move!" The bully reached out to grab you, breaking the spell and making the stone drop from their arms and legs. Once free, they dropped to the ground, dragging your unstable body down with them. They hid their face in your chest as they continued to sob. "Don't do that again, never do that again," they muttered mindlessly.
"Understood." You said, eyes growing tired as you looked over at the teacher who was now out cold. You looked up at your other classmates. "So, free class?"
You are a poor child going to a popular magic school at your mentors insistence, telling you to “broaden your horizon.” But when you get there you realise everyone is doing magic differently to what your mentor taught. They use silly chants and carry big ugly books around.

Easy Curses for Beginners
Here are some simple yet unusual curses for beginners. These curses are low-energy, easy to perform, and require minimal tools. They are subtle and perfect for those just starting their baneful practice, but still pack a punch. Always be mindful of your intentions—curses can carry karmic or energetic consequences. Always start the curse process by protecting yourself and end it by cleansing yourself. Remember to do your own research before using baneful magick.
The Rotting Fruit Curse
Causes a person’s luck, relationships, or finances to decay over time.
Needed:
• A piece of fruit (apple, orange, etc.)
• A slip of paper
• A black pen
• A dark place (cupboard, drawer, or under the bed)
Instructions:
Write the target’s name on the paper. Place the paper inside or beneath the fruit. Hold the fruit and focus on your intent—imagine the person’s life slowly rotting just like the fruit will. Place the fruit in a hidden, dark place and leave it to decay. Once fully rotted, dispose of it far from your home.
The Knotted Thread Curse
Traps a person in misfortune, confusion, or stagnation. The target experiences obstacles, delays, and problems that keep them from progressing in life.
Needed:
• A piece of black thread or string (12 inches long)
• Your voice and breath
Instructions:
Hold the string in your hands and focus on the target. With each knot you tie, say a phrase like:
• "With this knot, I trap your fate."
• "With this tie, your plans fall apart."
Tie nine knots while envisioning the person becoming stuck, unable to move forward in life. Hide or bury the thread somewhere secret.
The Echo Curse
Makes a person’s words return to them, causing gossipers or liars to suffer their own consequences. Their own words work against them—exposing their lies, making people distrust them, or causing them to face social backlash.
Needed:
• A mirror (small handheld one works best)
• A marker or lipstick
• The person’s name (or just "liar," "gossip," etc.)
Instructions:
Write their name (or a word representing their offense) on the mirror. Hold the mirror and say:
"What you say returns to you, every lie and every word untrue."
Place the mirror facing a wall or inside a dark drawer, so their energy is reflected back to them.
The Cracked Egg Curse
Causes a person’s stability to fall apart—relationships, money, confidence, or mental clarity. The target experiences instability, whether emotional, financial, or personal.
Needed:
• A raw egg
• A marker
• A place to smash the egg (outside, near their path, or a trash bin)
Instructions:
Write the person’s name on the egg. Hold it and whisper your curse into it, such as:
"May your life crack like this shell."
Imagine their stability shattering like the egg will. Smash it on the ground or in a trash bin.
The Slipping Shadow Curse
Causes a person to lose focus, forget things, or make mistakes. They struggle with their memory, lose track of things, and make more mistakes.
Needed:
• A black candle
• A piece of paper
• A pencil
Instructions:
Write the target’s name on the paper. Light the black candle and hold the paper over the flame (don’t burn it yet). Whisper:
"Like a shadow slipping through the cracks, your mind stumbles, your focus lacks."
Let a few drops of wax fall on the name, then crumple the paper. Blow out the candle and throw the paper in a busy place (so their energy is scattered).
The Splitting Roads Curse
Causes confusion, indecision, and emotional instability. The target struggles to understand what's happening and make the right choices.
Needed:
• Two twigs or sticks
• A piece of string
• A crossroads or a place where two paths split
Instructions:
Tie the two sticks together at one end, so they form a V shape (symbolizing a forked path). Hold them in your hands and say:
"Your choices split, your path unclear, may confusion follow near."
Leave the sticks at a crossroads or place where two paths meet.
The Ink Spill Curse
Causes a person’s words (spoken or written) to be misunderstood, ignored, or turned against them. Everything they say becomes misinterpreted, loses power, or backfires.
Needed:
• A pen
• A piece of paper
• A cup of water or ink
Instructions:
Write the person’s name and a word representing their harmful speech (ie: “lies,” “gossip,” “manipulation”). Hold the paper and whisper:
"Your words twist, your message lost, what you say will bear the cost."
Drop the paper into the water or ink and let the words dissolve. Dispose of the soaked paper in running water (sink, river, or toilet).
The Cold Shoulder Curse
The person experiences social isolation—people ignore them, avoid them, or lose interest in them. This will eventually lead to profound loneliness.
Needed:
• A small ice cube
• A photo of the person (or just their name written on paper)
• A freezer
Instructions:
Place the ice cube on top of their name or photo. Whisper:
"Like ice, you freeze in place. No warmth, no friends, no welcome space."
Wrap the paper/photo in a piece of cloth or plastic and place it in the freezer.
The Crumbling Foundation Curse
Causes a collapse in a person’s relationships, home life, or work environment. The target experiences instability in their personal life making it harder for them to maintain relationships or stability.
Needed:
• A small handful of graveyard dirt
• A piece of paper
• A black pen
Instructions:
Write the person’s name on the paper. Hold the dirt in your hand and whisper:
"Your foundation weakens, your roots unsteady. That which holds you crumbles already."
Sprinkle the dirt over the paper and then fold it, with the dirt inside, like a little packet. Throw into running water or the rubble of a collapsed building.

"I don't like astrology because it's fucked up to decide you don't like someone based on the date they were born."
That IS fucked up, and also really bad astrology.
I'm not trying to convince people to believe in astrology, but I also think people like to shit on it more than other systems of divination because most people who are interested in it treat the zodiac like a personality test, and have never gotten deeper into it than reading their horoscope in the newspaper (or whatever the 2025 equivalent is).
For the lay person, I totally get dismissing it as basically a personality test. But if you are a magic practitioner, it might be worth reexamining your preconceived notions of it. I don't expect every practitioner to buy into every magical framework, but I do think it's worth approaching them with curiosity and respect instead of offhanded dismissal.
If you ever do try to really get deep into astrology (or planetary magic) you will learn that it's extremely complicated, your sun sign is not that huge of a factor, and you're gonna have to do math and memorize a bunch of shit.
If you're gonna hate astrology, hate it because it's a pain in the ass to learn. Not because of the bullshit excuse for astrology people use to justify being a dick. For that, you can just hate the people who are being dicks.
#in defense of astrology#like I am not an astrologer by any means#I fucks with planetary magic but it is COMPLICATED#but I've come to really respect my astrologer friends and I wish that other practitioners would be a little more open minded

So, Gushing Over Magical Girls Is The Best Thing To Happen to Magical Girls
Gushing Over Magical Girls get this bad rep. For all the wrong reasons. I’ve seen it be called an insult to Magical Girls, I’ve seen it be called “gooner bait” a term I absolutely despise but that’s a thing for another day. I’ve seen it insulted for everything and anything under the sun.
I first got acquainted with it when I was scrolling through Twitter and I saw someone complain about the PV. However, as an avid Magical Girl Fan, I wasn’t disgusted. I was intrigued.
I decided to read the manga, and oh god.
This is one of the best things I’ve read.
The story follows Utena, a shy girl that loves Magical Girls, tricked to become the evil general that will defeat the Magical Girl team “Tres Magia”.
And it’s a delight.
I binged all the episodes available to me in the manga, and had fun in each and every chapter.
The same, however, couldn’t be said by half the people who watched the anime. And I was extremely baffled. As a queer woman, this was the first time in my life, in which I had seen something so deliberately catered towards me. I saw tell-tale signs of someone who genuinely admires the genre, and is simply using it as an outlet for exploring deeper and more interesting topics that a SFW version of it would not be able to.
Yet, I turn around and I see people calling it the most horrendous stuff, and accusing everyone who likes it of being monsters or men.
Genuinely, I’ve had enough.
Gushing Over Magical Girl is not the Devil. In fact, I think it’s the best thing to come don’t even like Magical Girls AND IT SHOWS.
PART 1: “Magical girls are for little girls!”.
The first criticism you’ll see aimed at “Gushing over Magical girl” is the amount of sexually charged content it has. And it is true. It borders on straight up porn in many instances and it just gets wilder as you go on. By chapter 30, we’re way past PantyShots. Like, I’ve seen some of these girls’ vaginas, and I’m not joking.
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with it, but there’s people who might disagree.
“Magical Girls are for little girls” some people say “and you’re corrupting it!”
Which genuinely makes me laugh.
This is because this type of argument could only be done by someone with no real concept of Magical Girls aside from maybe Sailor Moon and Sakura Card Captor.
out of the Magical Girl genre in a WHILE (Ignoring Precure, because they just gave us a magical boy and that’s my win of the decade).
People are just, you know, stupid. And reactionary. Enough that they see a boob and lose their minds like a Karen at a Christmas Eve Mall.
My point is, I love this manga. And I’m willing to risk my reputation to defend it. Cause genuinely, half the people who are clutching their pearls over this show - Magical Girl Anime haven’t always been PG, or aimed at girls.
Cutie Honey is a great example. It’s one of the most famous Magical Girl Anime you will find - and it’s a shonen. With the protagonist, Honey, being constantly naked, groped, put in suggestive situations and have outfits that show her cleavage.
And it’s one of the most famous, most popular takes on Magical Girl there is. Yet, I never see any amount of outrage towards it. (Part of me wonders if it’s because the fan service is aimed at men, rather than involving yuri).
There’s also Lyrical Nanoha, one of the most popular serial franchises there is. It spans several seasons and spinoffs, and it’s beloved by many.
And it’s aimed at older men. Yes, it’s a Seinen.
In fact, its origins are far from PG. It’s actually a Spin-off of an erotic game named “Triangle Heart”. It was most definitely not created with little girls in mind, and themes it tackles reflect as much.
There’s Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya too, a spinoff of the Fate/Stay Night VN, very obviously aimed at older men, it’s a Seinen. It has a lot of fanservice and scenes where the characters are half naked.
Day Break Illusion is also a Shonen.
And as much as I adora Madoka - I’ve been stating for years now that it isn’t a show meant for little girls. You could argue it’s for everyone, regardless of gender, who’s a little older. But it most definitely wasn’t for little girls.
So, no. This was never an “only girls” club. Trying to paint it as such, is not only wrong but ignorant.
Magical Girl shows can be for anyone. Men, boys, girls, women and I find it infantilizing to consider it “only for little girls”.
No one says “super heroes are ONLY for little boys”
Well, some do. But they’re, you know, bigots. Who don’t want girls playing or adults o have fun.
So no, Gushing Over Magical Girls being a sexually charged anime in the Seinen category isn’t “corrupting the genre”. In fact, I would argue it’s doing exactly what the genre has done in the OVA shadows for a while.
Not to mention, many people have screamed from the rooftop how they want “more mature Magical Girl shows” referring to the success of Madoka. But as soon as an actually mature take on Magical Girls shows up, tackling issues of sexuality and love, you all don’t want it anymore.
(We all know why, though. Americans, and western culture in general, considers mature themes, only that which involves violence. Anything close to discussing issues of sex is no longer “mature” but “Pornographic” and deserving of being shoved into a corner. With all queer themes, gender studies, and any nuance that could be had regarding these issues).
And speaking of sexually charged, have you watched so called “wholesome” magical girls? They’re still very much sexy. Not in the “on the nose” ecchi way Seinen and Shonen are - but they still are.
You’ll find transformations were the girls are naked, zoom in to their breasts, you’ll have panty shots every now and then. Even themes of growing up, having crushes, and innuendos about sex. Inappropriate relationships, taboo romance, and the likes.
Sakura had Rita and a professor’s relationship (mutual in the manga), Sailor Moon had Chibiusa and Elliot’s romance, Sugar Sugar Rune even having an element for ‘lust’ and other different types of love, and let’s not forget Mermaid Melody which has several instances of the girls naked, in compromising positions with other men. And I’m pretty sure Tokyo Mew Mew likely opened a whole bunch of doors for girls to be into CNC.
This is, by the way, normal.
Completely so.
These stories often talk about the girlhood experience. And girls and teenage girls are interested in all of these things. They’re interested in sex, romance, their bodies growing up, their own sexuality and the likes. It’s no wonder same-sex relationships and romance get included, they’re part of what experiencing the world through the eyes of a young girl is like.
And subsequently, it stands to reason that as people who engaged with MG grow up - they find comfort in exploring their sexuality through Magical Girl themselves. There’s a reason why there’s a growing section of “Magical Girl” in your local hentai site.
“Men get off on corrupting this wholesome girl targeted genre” is actually TERF rhetoric sneaking through the mainstream. It ignores AFAB ppl and gender nonconforming people, who grew up with Magical Girls, simply using a medium that originally started their journey of sexual identity, to explore more “grown up” aspects of that same identity.
In particular, I’m a Cis AroAce Woman. I wrote a lot of Magical Girl NSFW when I first started writing NSFW Twitter threads. They’re bad and they’re cringey. But it was something I needed.
Magical Girls were a huge part of my childhood and early teens. When I was mentally in the space to want to engage with NSFW content: it was obvious I would turn to what first sparked excitement.
So this idea that “men are corrupting Magical Girls with their sick fantasies” is nothing more than TERF-lite propaganda. People, including women and men, have been doing this for ages; for a variety of reasons. And doing so, doesn’t rob children of their spaces - but the gentrification of the internet is a story of another day.
The other argument I have heard is that GOMG is a mockery of the genre. Which is even more laughable in my opinion.
PART 2: Parodies and why I hate Earth Defender’s Club.
Gushing Over Magical Girls loves Magical Girls. It’s a parody, in a way, but it knows very well what it parodies. It’s not surface level in the slightest. And it absolutely is not mean spirited about it.
A lot of the time, shows that reference and parody the Magical Girl genre, do so in ways that feel like they view it as a lesser genre. They take generic images of cute girls in frilly outfits, swap the colors around, and have them chant over-the-top spells. You’re meant to laugh, not only at how silly they look, but people who would love it. Especially if they’re grown ups.
I do not like “Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!” For this exact reason - even tho many people praise it to all heavens.
Because
1) It feels surface level in its commentary and depiction of Magical Girls and
2) More mocking towards the genre than paying homage or doing anything with it.
The continuous use of the word “Love” is a very obvious jab at Magical Girls using these words, which feels mean spirited just for the sake of it. Their outfits are almost exactly the same, save for the colors. And they all use the same sticks as weapon, with no thematic link for the shapes of the scepters. The mascot too (a wombat for god knows what reason), I think it’s meant to be a joke of some sort for how ridiculous some of the mascots for the girls get, which rubs me the wrong way.

In general, it feels shallow and mean spirited. But no one calls this an insult to Magical Girls. Because people who like it don't actually care about Magical Girls. They see cute boys doing silly things and love it. Which is kinda sad.
Now, Gushing Over Magical girls has sort of that same problem on the Tres Magias…But they’re not the protagonists. And even then, in later chapters, they get power ups that are different in design, and thematically linked.
The protagonist, and the ones we follow, are Utena and the girls. And they all have very distinct outfits, all with motifs that are tangentially thematically linked, and speak of each character’s personalities in interesting ways.
Utena in particular has THIS outfit. Which a lot of people don’t like, but I actually do.

It’s very obvious it’s taking inspo from other iconic Bad Girls in the genre. Namely, Utau, Kraehe and Devil Homura. All “Enemy characters” that have unhealthy obsessions with other characters. In particular, I think the wings and the feathers resemble Homura - THE character known to have a massive obsession with a Magical Girl (Madoka), to the point of insanity.

There’s also Magia Azure. Who’s a clear reference to the Mean Tsundere girl that is iconic to the genre. She’s also a Miko. Which is a callback to Sailor Mars, arguably THE girl who popularized this archetype.
I also love what they do with the mascots. Unlike Earth Defenders, where the mascot is you know, a mockery of the archetype of a mascot - useless, only there to give power ups, and obsessed with food - the mascots of GOMG is taking a book from Madoka.
It considers the mascots both all-too-powerful and yet limited in their reach. Which is exactly what the mascots have always been in Magical Girls. Beings so powerful they can give mythical powers to girls, yet helpless to do anything on their own. So, they use magical girls as a vehicle to achieve their goals. Most Magical girls try to paint this as a good thing, but newer genres shine light on how dangerous that can be too.
Madoka tackles it with Kyubey as the main initial mascot, only later to turn out to be the villain of the series.
And in a Post-Madoka world, trusting the mascots is just the slightest bit more difficult. That’s why, from the get go, GOMG portrays their mascots as morally corrupt. He’s not a good character, he’s malicious and doing more harm than good. But for the majority of the series, he’s painted more as a useless harmless evil than anything genuinely terrifying or worthy of concern. The attention is focused on other things.
But I love the way that it’s heavily implied that they’re not good. It’s a very interesting take on the mascot and it helps with the themes of the series. Which yes, by the way. Gushing Over Magical Girls has themes.
Which lead me to-
Part 3: Yeah, uhm, Gushing Over Magical Girl has themes.
There’s this idea that Sex is an inherently violent act. In which a man humiliates and sodomizes a woman, and therefore the woman is exploited in some way. And 10x worse is any act that involves BDSM. It’s violence; born out of hatred.
This is TERF rhetoric. I’m not joking. This line of thought leads directly to TERF ideas.
Many on the internet have pointed out as much, and BDSM members have gone to be very vocal about it. In particular, people on the role of the submissive (or the bottoms) are loudly trying to explain the contrary. How they like the act of sex, like the idea of being vulnerable, or being humiliated. There’s also plenty of LGBT+ stories that talk about it, both in western and eastern spaces. Just jump into the section of dom/sub verse at your local manga browsing website, and you’ll find something.
That said, the same is not as common for people who like to “dominate”.
I can only think of two pieces of media that argue that, whoever is the dominant or the sadist, is also a human being. That whatever they’re doing is done, not out of hatred for the submissive or an act of violence, but love.
One, is the husky and the white cat. In which Mo Ran, among other things, has to come to terms that his love isn’t “pure”. That he cannot love someone without the want to have sex, and to completely dominate that someone.
The second one is Gushing Over Magical Girls.
It’s very clear to me that Utena’s sadism isn’t a violent act. It’s an act born out of love. She genuinely loves the Magical Girls, and most girls for that matter, and whenever she is inflicting pain and fighting with them - what she wants is to ultimately help them in some way.
She wants them to “be the cutest version they can be” and wants them to shine brighter than ever.
There’s this one scene I love, around chapter 20, in which Baiser (Utena) is fighting Magia Azura. And due to Baiser going a bit too far, Azura ends up being Mind-broken. She crawls towards her, calls her “mistress” and begs to become her servant.

In any normal Hentai you’ll find, this is a good thing. This would be the ideal outcome. A character being turned into nothing but a sex slave for the enjoyment of the dominant.
Which is why I found it breathtaking when that didn’t happen.
Baiser is horrified by this. She does not want to break the girls, she wants them to be powerful. She wants them to win. With her, the evil one, being nothing more than a vehicle for them to be even stronger than before.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen dominant or sadist characters being presented both sexually, and in such a positive light. Much less a queer woman in the same position.
It doesn’t treat BDSM sex as a disgusting taboo act, but something born out of genuine love - and a want to see the other person be or feel better.
This is reinforced around chapter 25 where Leberblume and Loco Mùsica are fighting Baiser. For context, Loco Musica wanted to be an Idol, but had terrible singing. She uses her evil power to basically force everyone to listen to her sing (which is so reminiscent of Mermaid Melody btw). When they fight, Baiser wins, and is then set to use her new found power to “punish” Loco Musica.
Originally, Loco Musica points out how Baiser’s sadistic tendencies are “the same” as Lord Enorme, who we’ve seen uses sadism as a genuine form of punishment. Something to avoid. You behave well, because you don’t want to get hurt or humiliated by her.
However, when Baiser uses her own unique type of sadism on Loco Musica, something happens. Instead of causing her physical pain by beating her or using violence, she forces her to get naked and perform her idol song like that. This causes her to get extremely embarrassed. And in the process, she actually starts to sing really well.
This is important for two reasons
1) Baiser is actually taking into account who Musica is. It’s later revealed that Musica wanted a more frilly idol-like outfit but Lord Enorme shut it down, for the sake of a more ‘unified’ aesthetic. Baiser is not just throwing around the same treatment and punishment for all girls - what one might like, the other might hate.
2) At the end of the day, while she did the punishment, it was both embarrassing, but ultimately something that helped Musica and made her feel better.
And that’s really the key here, and why I love the series.
Sadism, sex and kinks in general are not tools of degeneracy. They’re treated as part of our experience.
Also, it’s just fun?
Part 4: Gushing Over Magical Girls is just extremely fun when you don’t have a dumb bitch yapping abt how unholy it is to see tiddies on a screen
Yeah, GOMG just has one of the most creative depictions of the most insane of kinks you’ll see - I could spent hour gushing over Nero Alice.
Seeing all these different kinks being depicted as powers and abilities that these characters have - and seeing how they interact with other people is just interesting.
The sex scenes are both hilarious and kinda sexy. Specially if you do like to see women all hot and bothered. Personally I’m not into girls (or anyone for that matter) but I have to admit the scenes were pretty hot. And there is no shame in admitting as much. No matter what the puritanical Christian on Twitter crying abt “god honoring lesbian sex” Will tell you.
I cannot begin to explain just how hype and relatable it was to see Magia Baiser defeat Lord Enorme with the power of straight up delusion, we STAN.

So, yeah.
It’s been a while since I last saw a Magical Girl Show so unashamed of being a Magical Girl Show. Unashamed of being weird, of praising the genre and just enjoying it.
My essay is titled, in part, as a joking reference to my much more popular series “MLB is the worst thing to happen to the magical girl series”. Which I still think is true.
And while, yeah, maybe GOMG isn’t the best thing to come out of the genre…I still think it’s good that it came out.
A lot of people say they want a more “mature” take on Magical Girls but - this proved to me that just isn’t the case.
Gushing over magical girls proves that the Magical Girl Genre Can Be so much more than what people think. More than glitter and sparkles, more than vapid action scenes, or what little girls want.
Much like any other genre, it can be raunchy, it can be messy, it can explore things outside of the status quo. But it can still deeply respect the source material, and the origins of it.
GOMG proves Magical Girls can be fun. Just. Straight up fun. Regardless of your age. They can serve and connect you to parts of yourself you didn’t realize you could connect to.
I hope it proves to more people that the genre can be so much more than “just for little girls” that parodies can be more than pointing and laughing, and that it can have themes beyond just, “friendship”.
Magical Girls can be so much more. You just, have to have an open mind about it.

Combat Magick: The Art Of Mystical Warfare

Combat magick is the practice of using metaphysical and energetic techniques for defense, offense, and strategic advantage in spiritual or psychic conflicts. It blends elements of protection, attack, and counterattack, often drawing upon personal will, energy manipulation, and ritual magick to influence outcomes in battles—whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.
Principles of Combat Magick
• Energetic Warfare – Combat magick works by manipulating energy to shield, attack, or neutralize threats. Practitioners learn to harness their own energy and direct external forces to achieve victory.
• Intent and Willpower – A strong will is essential in combat magick. The practitioner's intent determines whether their spells are defensive, retaliatory, or aggressive.
• Cleverness and Intellect - When it comes right down to it, your mind is the single best weapon in your arsenal. The practitioner should possess a some level of mental prowess before attempting combat magick.
• Ethical Considerations – While some use combat magick for self-defense, others employ it for baneful purposes. Some witches mayfollow guidelines such as the Threefold Law or personal codes of conduct that forbid the use of such workings.

Forms of Combat Magick
Defensive Magick (Shielding & Warding):
• Shielding: Creating energetic barriers around oneself or others to deflect attacks (psychic, emotional, spiritual).
• Warding: Placing protective symbols, sigils, or enchanted objects around spaces to prevent intrusion.
• Cleansing & Banishing: Removing negative influences through smoke cleansing, salt, sound, or sacred words.
Offensive Magick (Curses & Hexes):
• Curses & Hexes: Directing harmful energy toward an opponent to weaken, confuse, deter, or harm them.
• Energy Manipulation: Sending concentrated bursts of energy to disrupt an enemy’s balance.
• Elemental Combat: Calling upon fire, water, air, or earth to aid in magickal attacks.
Counterattacks & Reversal Magick:
• Mirror Spells (Return to Sender): Reflecting an attack back to it's source.
• Unbinding & Curse Breaking: Severing unwanted energetic ties or removing hostile spells.
• Reversal Magick: Redirecting negativity away from oneself and sending it elsewhere.

Tools & Techniques Used in Combat Magick
• Sigils & Symbols – Used for protection, strength, or attack. Examples include Algiz (protection), Mars glyphs (aggression).
• Herbs & Crystals – Protective plants like blackthorn, vervain, or dragon’s blood; stones like obsidian, hematite, or black tourmaline. Baneful components include herbs like datura, calamus, belladonna or Spanish moss and stones like opal, sardonyx, and garnet.
• Blood & Personal Energy – Some warriors of the craft may infuse spells with personal essence or their own blood to strengthen the magick.
• Chanting & Incantations – Words of power can amplify intent and activate spells more effectively.
• Astral Combat – Fighting in the spiritual realm through visualization, dream work, or projection. This can help you catch your target in a vulnerable position and quickly gain the upper hand.

Who Uses Combat Magick?
• Witches & Sorcerers – Those who practice both light and dark magick for protection or justice.
• Psychic Warriors & Energy Workers – Individuals who engage in spiritual defense against negative entities or forces.
• Shamans & Spirit Walkers – Practitioners who deal with hostile spirits or supernatural threats as well as those performing exorcisms.
• Chaos Magicians – Those who employ sigils, servitors, and energy constructs for their warfare.
Combat magick is not for the faint of heart—it requires discipline, mastery of energy work, and deep self-awareness. While it can be a powerful tool for protection and justice, it should always be wielded with wisdom and responsibility. Whether defending against psychic attacks or engaging in mystical battles, combat magick remains an essential part of the spiritual warrior’s arsenal.
