the CHAOS of london n2??
(slight tw: mentions of choking)

(📸 from ctmylip on twitter)
clancy didn't even LOOK at torchbearer, almost confirming that he can't see him. and he DIDN'T. TAKE. THE. JACKET.
poor torchbearer had to be by himself :( AND HE WAS STILL HOLDING CLANCYS JACKET TOO. im so done.
okay but seriously like what the hell is going on with clancy. it's unsure if he became a bishop because he thankfully didn't wear a robe on london n2, but there are still various hints and implications that he IS a bishop.
that final letter was clancy leading himself to power and taking over that power for himself, and so hes fucking THROWING AWAY TORCHBEARER.
so the fact that clancy is starting to forget and go against what the banditos stand for (remember the FPE and how it potentially represents clancy's memories, then being blacked out and destroyed?) could mean that he's turning into a bishop.
..but this could ALSO mean that clancy's going his own way, since after walking away from torchbearer he blinded himself with his stole.
and not only that, he was choking himself with it multiple times throughout the show. clancy could either:
be trying to get back in control of himself because maybe this isn't the path he wanted.
be dead. (AAAGDGXGZHSH WHAT THE FUCK)
im actually terrified of whats to come. OHH CLANCY AND TORCHBEARER PLS KISS AND MAKE UP OR SMTH WE MISS YOU 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔

“im gay” “im straight” whatever;
I am trapped.
Stuck in a cycle I have never been able to break.
I want to believe this is the last time, but I don't know for sure.
I'll start with what I do know. I am a citizen of an old city.
Well, they say it's old, but there's just no proof.
I can feel my friends rolling their eyes.
I'll keep it simple. I am a citizen of Dema, a circular cement city in the lower portion of an otherwise wild and green continent, Trench.
We aren't allowed to go out there.
Most haven't even seen it. But I have.
I am an escapee.
Getting better at it with every attempt. But they always find me. Well, he does. Nico.
Or, Blurryface is what he calls himself. He's the leader of the nine Bishops who govern the city.
Their authority comes from two things: a miraculous power and a hijacked religion.
One feeds the other. A cycle.
It's called Vialism. And all you really need to know is that it teaches that self-destruction is the only way to paradise. It also conveniently allows you to become an available vessel for the Bishops to use.
And that's where the miracle comes in. We call it seizing. The rules are that you can only seize, or control, a dead body and only for a short while.
Also, they, the Bishops, are the only ones who can do it.
I am a citizen. I am an escapee. And I am an exception to the rule.
Okay, this is what happened recently.
I tricked Nico into taking me outside the walls. I created a fiery diversion. I escaped. I wandered, grew weak, and was tracked down.
But this drag path was different. I saw them. They watched me. The Banditos.
Legends, only stories of a group that lived out here. Shortly after being back inside the walls my new people got me out.
They needed me for something. They brought me in, taught me their colors.
But the cycle was too strong. I was recaptured. Back inside. I guess word got around, I became known in Dema.
The Bishops did not like this, but decided to use it to their advantage.
They made me entertain the people. Lie to them. They made me perform for them. Then Nico was betrayed. And I escaped. Again.
This time I found myself at a new place, washed up on an island. And there, I was given a gift, thought to be extinct.
I now had the same exact, miraculous power they wielded from their towers.
I am a citizen. I am an escapee. I am an exception. I am returning to Trench.

Do you happen to be following the t-shirt lore at the 21 pilots concerts? There's a theory that Clancy is the 10th bishop and wanted to know what you think!
Yes I am, and I don't understand why everybody's coming to that conclusion.
I understand that some people think he's going to be the tenth Bishop because of the robe in the FPE, and the sign that said "FOR CLANCY," but that doesn't seem like it absolutely HAS to connect to the t-shirts he's wearing at specific concerts.
Then again, they've surprised me before. So I could be just not seeing it.
The first thing I noticed about the shirts was that they had images related to death on them--one of them, the angel-grave one, was actually the album cover of a band where the lead singer committed suicide, if I remember correctly. So for a while I followed that lead and thought each image would string together each T-Shirt. But after a while I couldn't find enough high-resolution pictures of the photos on the shirts to confirm that.
...not to...reveal how obsessive I am about that...
But anyway, I can only really see one reason why Clancy becoming a tenth (and it wouldn't be tenth, it would be ninth, because Keons is gone so right now they're down to eight) Bishop would make sense.
It would have to be an allegory where the Bishops each have their proper place as stand-ins for Tyler's Thoughts—(for example, "depression" is actually a natural response to something being broken in the world, but that doesn't mean it should get to control you because there's a fix to the brokenness of the world, and that's God)—but they've been abusing their "proper place" by going too far. They're Thoughts that should point to Truth but instead they've gone Too Far, and that's why we have DEMA—but somehow Clancy, becoming their new ruler, brings them back into their proper place. Now he's changed the meaning of what a "Bishop" even is. He's made them something good and useful instead of dark and oppressive and most of all, controlling.
I think that's what a Christian does.
A Christian doesn't say "there's no such thing as anxiety, depression, obsession, or numbness." A Christian says, "all those things do exist, as emotions—and I know why they exist, it's because I'm a fallen human in need of a Savior. So I'm going to let them be reminders of that truth, not ruiners-of-my-life, and they don't get to control me, Christ does."
So like.
If Clancy's going to be "a Bishop" then what that should look like is, he can't defeat Nico, he's being seized or warped into a Bishop, himself, and then Torchbearer comes in (because Torchbearer represents Christ) and burns the artificial power out of Clancy. And when it all flickers away to ash, Clancy's Bishop robes should be a totally new color, or something else visual, to represent the fact that he's now a Bishop The Right Way. Not oppressive, but a shepherd leading people East. And then he turns and burns all the other Bishops into Good Guys too.
Not that exactly, but something like that.
Because if it's not that, then what is the lesson I'm supposed to take? What is the message I'm supposed to get out of a "Clancy is a Bishop" story? "Sometimes You Try to Escape Dark Thoughts, But They're Part of You, So You'll Never Be Free...So Just Split the Difference and Settle for Fame and Influence, Instead of Freedom?"
The bad guys win?
No. I don't believe they're going to do that.

Makin' My Way Towards You|| Chapter 2
Ship: Torchbearer x Reader
Warnings: Brief implications of torture/abuse, Nico, mild violence, guilt
Chapter 2: A Torch
“Put this on”, The Stranger commanded, shoving a camo jacket into her hand. His camp was small - just a tent with a small fire next to the river stream. A cold chill had found its way into the air, chilling (Y/N) to her core. Dema had never been this cold. It was an industrial mass, heat permeated every corner. In a way, it made up for the chill it sent to your soul. Regardless, it was a harsh adjustment.
(Y/N) gave him an appreciative half nod, wrapping it around her shoulders and zipping the front. It was warm from where he’d placed it in front of the campfire. Cozy. She’d never had the privilege before. “Thanks,” she said gently.
The stranger shrugged, prodding the fire silently. He was intimidating. Brooding. Neither of them quite knew what to do with the other. There were few people (Y/N) had found comfort in within Dema’s walls. And for those she did, comfort didn’t quite look the same. It had to pass as a distance enough for the Bishops. Friendships meant loyalty, loyalty meant revolution. Comfort simply looked like nods, the brushing of shoulders or hands in passing corridors and the rare conversation on the odd chance they could be alone without the Bishop's narrow eyes on them. She wondered what would become of them.
“No one’s escaped Dema before,” His voice was soft, slightly gruff from lack of use, but there was a danger behind it. He was still testing her, as far as she could tell. Good. She was testing him too.
“I know,” The statement weighed heavily in the air, as (Y/N)’s eyes drifted to the sky. “Nico’s going to be pissed.”
“They’re going to come after you,” He stated, eyes suddenly fixed on her intently. A chill ran down her spine, but this wasn’t the cold. This was bone deep. Infiltrating the soul like poison, threatening to rat it out if she moved too much.
“I know,” (Y/N)’s voice felt empty. Sounded empty. Blank. “I can be out of your hair at sunlight”
She’d appreciated his kindness. Her stomach didn’t burn anymore, and the warmth of his clothes soothed to absence of humanity she’d lived by. This was enough. More than enough, even. The stranger turned to her, an air of confusion filling the air, furrowed eyebrows tilted in her direction.
“I didn’t say that,” He responded firmly, leaving little room for argument. “You just need to be ready for them when they come.”
A humourless laugh filtered through (Y/N)’s lips as she set him with an incredulous look “How?”
“That’ll help,” He gestured to the jacket around her shoulders, and she raised an eyebrow “The tape.”
“The tape?” Was he joking? Her fingers played with the edges of the yellow tape that crossed the body in a slanted X. She’d eyed the back of it when it was beside the fire near sunset, a symbol stuck to it she didn’t quite recognise. “I don’t exactly think tape can fend off a Bishop.”
He narrowed his eyes at her, but it lacked in venom. A mild irritation at most. “Bishops can’t see yellow. It’ll shelter you.”
“What? How does that even work?” (Y/N) asked with a scoff. Surely the scariest men - creatures? - in all of Trench, couldn’t be defeated by a bit of yellow tape?
The stranger shrugged, a stoney expression on his face again, adjusting the yellow bandana that he’d slipped from his mouth to his neck “You wanna ask them and find out?”
(Y/N) made a small sound of resignation, “Pft, no thanks.” She turned her body on the log towards him, knees folded inwards “Thank you. For all of this.”
The stranger shrugged again “Doing my part. Plus, you know more about Dema than anyone. You might be useful.”
Her eyebrows furrowed. Useful?
He nodded. Shit had she said that out loud? “There are thousands of people in Dema under their control. With your help, we stand a chance of getting them out someday.”
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow, folding her arms to her chest as another cold wind swam through, “We?”
His eyes met hers, earnest and gentle. Vulnerable. “You’d be doing a world of good. For the world we dream about,” He glanced up to the sky, taking a deep breath “And the one we live in now.”
(Y/N) glanced between the stranger and the fire. She’d only just escaped Dema. There’d be Bishops on her trail at any moment. She couldn’t risk getting involved in something bigger than herself….
“No one has made it out before you. It’d be a waste to throw that away,” He continued firmly. His gaze held desperation. Determined. This was the hill he’d die on.
…. But if no one did, who would?
Fuck. This was so stupid. It would never work. The faces of her brothers and sisters in Dema flashed through her head, and guilt gnashed at her stomach.
What choice did she have?
“Okay,” (Y/N) replied with a weighted breath, turning back to the stranger. His head shot to hers, eyes wide, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. A hopeful glimmer shone in his eyes, and a small closed-mouth smile quirked his lips. It made him look younger. Softer. She extended her hand cautiously. “(Y/N).”
The stranger took her hand, giving her the firmest handshake she’d ever felt. A warm smile rose to his face, teeth flashing at her. “Torchbearer.”
–
Back in camp, it was bustling as ever. Banditos dashed to and fro, checking supplies, reinforcements, and watching over the forest. The actions of Torchbearer lay heavy in the air. No one quite knew what had happened except (Y/N), but they knew enough to know that their leader had meddled where he shouldn’t have. They wanted to hit Dema where it hurt, but that didn’t mean they were any less anxious. Nervous energy in the air, (Y/N) stormed through, pushing her way to the supply table. Tyler sat behind a makeshift desk, a list of papers on the table in front of him. (Y/N) dropped her spare supplies on the table, for Tyler to register and put back in the group supplies.
“How was the run?” He asked lightly as he counted her food packs, jotting the number down. (Y/N) hummed faintly, barely taking her eyes off of Tyler’s hands as he worked, and he let out a chuckle. “That good, huh?”
“You could say that,” she commented bitterly, right as Torchbearer began to make his way over. She sighed, irritation crawling up her neck.
“Trouble in paradise?” Tyler teased, a sly smile on his lips. It quickly faded when (Y/N) snapped her eyes to his with a sharp glare.
“Don’t.” Tyler put his hands up in surrender, still smiling as he picked up her supplies. He took off, carrying back to the storage tent as the Torchbearer reached her.
“(Y/N),” Torchbearer called tensely, shoulders knitted tight, and eyebrows narrowed under his hood. She shrugged him off, continuing through camp to her tent. She waved and nodded at those who greeted as she passed.
God, what the hell did she just do? They left him there like a wild animal, fending for himself. He wouldn’t last two seconds outside of Dema. Lord knows she wouldn’t have without Torch to guide her. They’d saved him just to put him back to death. They might as well have just let him go back into Dema. It wouldn’t be long before they hunted him down anyway.
“(Y/N).” His voice grew stern as he caught her arm, fingers gripping tightly. She whipped around with a hard look. “What the hell was that back there?”
“I could ask you the same damn thing,” She hissed back and his narrowed eyes slowly lowered into a glare “What was the point in going just to come running back? We left that guy out there to die.”
Torchbearer scoffed, yanking his bandana down “We stopped him from getting back into Dema. That’s what we started this for. Causing that crash so close to the walls was risky enough, we couldn’t chance the Bishops following us back to camp because we dragged him with us.”
(Y/N)’s hands clenched, and she pulled out of his grip, taking a step back “I didn’t start this to leave people out in Trench,” She returned sharply “No one has gotten out since me. If i didn’t know how to survive, he sure as hell won’t.”
“(Y/N), I’m watching him,” Torchbearer stressed, exasperated. Annoyance bubbled under his skin. Why couldn’t she just see this the way he did? He would never have left him completely unattended. That was dangerous enough with the Bishops looming as they did, but he also wasn’t heartless “I’ve been watching him since we left. There’s going to be a time for us to intercept, but that isn’t now.”
(Y/N) groaned, running her hands over her face. She knew he was right. She knew he cared, and a part of her had known all along that he would’ve been watching, but it didn’t ease the guilt in her gut from leaving him on the street with that burning monstrosity. It was his gift. He’d never lie about it to get his way. She didn’t even think he could. “Torchbearer, I-”
“Do you trust me?” He asked softly, putting a hand on her shoulder. She eased into the touch, frustration calming under his hold and she sighed.
“Yes,” She grumbled, folding her arms over her chest. “Of course, I do.”
“Good. Then trust me now. I’m here to guide him, just as I guided you to me. But right now, his path doesn’t cross ours,” Torchbearer bent his knees slightly to meet her eye. When she eventually looked up, he gave her a gentle, reassuring smile “He’ll be okay, (Y/N).”
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow at him and huffed, “He better be.”
–
A bandito held his hand out, (Y/N)’s jacket in hand. She gave them a nod, shrugging it on, and pulling the hood up to protect her ears. It was frigid outside, overcast, maybe a chance of snowing. This was the last day she wanted to be pulled out into the wind tunnel that was Trench’s valley. But when Torch had barged into her tent that morning, too focused on his frenzy that he didn’t even register that she was half naked, sheets pulled up to her chest as she blinked sleep from her eyes, (Y/N) knew it couldn’t wait. Within the hour, he and (Y/N) had gathered enough Banditos for their trip, each of them kitting up with food, weaponry and enough yellow tape to paint the wide expanse of Dema’s walls. She’d tried to convince Torchbearer to give her his bandana, but he met her with a borderline blank expression. He got like this whenever he had a vision. It was like another person altogether. Gone was the gentle Torchbearer, the loyal leader whom the Banditos children would go to play with. This was the man she met 7 years ago, when she’d stumbled into his forest.
(Y/N) yawned quietly, a stretch popping something in her back as Torchbearer made a final count of the people in the group. The torch in her hand was warm, soothing right to her bones, scaring the chill away.
That is, until Torchbearer gently plucked it from her hands with a simple nod of thank you. She let out a dramatic sigh at its absence.
“This way,” He commanded. And off they went.
They’d been walking for hours. The sun crept in and out every few hours, playing a game of hide and seek as they trekked. (Y/N) was grateful for its peeps as she fell beside Torchbearer. He was steely, determined. He’d barely said anything since they left in the early hours of the morning.
(Y/N) had never really gotten used to the sun, even after years of being outside of Dema. It felt like a gift every morning to go and sit in the centre of camp as the sun rose. Torch would find her in the same spot every morning, unless either of them were on patrol. It had become a pattern after the first few months of each other's company.
“We’re close. The wind is changing,” Torchbearer commented quietly, bandana moving lightly as his lips moved. (Y/N) pushed back a smile at the sight, looking like an animated creature rather than the brooding figure he made himself out to be. He glanced in her direction, eyebrow raised “What?”
(Y/N) shook her head, smiling “Nothing,” she said softly. His eyes never left hers, watching with a gentle intensity she’d never quite gotten accustomed to. Like he was searching for something. What that was, she still wasn’t sure. “Who’s staring now?”
He rolled his eyes, turning away, but she could just make out the faint baritone of his chuckle over the whistling of the wind. It had gotten stronger recently. “(Y/N), we can only bring him home if he can get to us, you know that, right?”
(Y/N) sighed, falling back into step with him. She didn’t like this plan. She knew Torch had his ability and his duty to fulfill what it directed of him, but it didn’t make this any easier. “When did we become so picky with who we let in?”
“This isn’t picky,” Torchbearer replied quickly, glancing to look at her once more “I don’t know what it is, but there’s something different about him. He has a course to fulfil as we all do-”
“And you’re just guiding them to it, I know, I know,” (Y/N) put her hands up in mock surrender. In the distance, she could see the cliff's edge, looming, eerie. “He must be special to escape Dema.”
Torchbearer said nothing, and when (Y/N) turned to look at him, she found him already staring into her, intense and unwavering. “Must be.”
Something about it felt different, but she couldn’t place what. Her chest felt warm, despite the biting cold.
She shook her head, turning her attention back to the edge just as she and Torch reached it, her fellow Banditos lining it. An unease settled in the air, and goosebumps rose on (Y/N)’s skin. A sudden sickness clambered at her throat, clawing and scraping for attention. Something was wrong. The air felt thick, and porous. She hadn’t felt like this since…
Nico.
(Y/N)’s heart seized in her throat at the sight that greeted her in the valley, and instinctively her hand shot to Torchbearer’s arm, gripping the fabric tightly as her throat squeezed. He gave no response but she felt him shift slightly. Somehow, that was comfort enough.
(Y/N) couldn’t quite tell Torchbearer, should he have asked how she knew it was Nico. She didn’t need to see his face to know. His mere presence was enough - suffocating and dark. Being in his vicinity sucked the colour from the world, and ruptured her brain as if they were never any joy. Though she supposed that's exactly what he wanted.
He sat on a pristine horse, and just behind him, a man stumbled through the pebbles and water, legs dragging under him. Yellow tape lined either of his shoulders. But he wasn’t one of them. All of her Banditos were accounted for. Torchbearer looked to her, and for the first time in her life, he looked lost, eyes wide and somewhat frantic.
Had they arrived too late? Torchbearer was never wrong. His gift told him exactly when to be there and how to get there. And if all else failed, projection was always his back up. But there was no way that they could face Nico, and certainly not from all the way up here. They couldn’t let him take this stranger either. Nico couldn’t even see them, so how-
The horse.
Nico might not be able to see yellow, but the horse certainly could. And so would the stranger. If they could do nothing else, they could give him hope. And that was all he needed.
Rebellions are built on hope.
Quickly, (Y/N) shovelled her hand into her pocket and tossed the yellow petals down into the valley. Torchbearer shot her an incredulous look, mouth opening to stop her until the stranger looked up.
Neither (Y/N) nor Torchbearer could make out his expression, but they knew he’d seen them. Glancing around, some of the Banditos took her lead, letting their petals flutter down into the cavern until enough filled the area that the horse stuttered. Shifting in fear under the bishop, Nico attempted to gain control of the animal, no doubt wondering why it had suddenly started acting so spooked. Torchbearer was the last to follow, using his free hand to toss his petals down. A tense silence filled the air, anticipation sitting amongst them. It was up to the stranger now. After seconds of long, stretched silence, the stranger stumbled backwards, head fixed on the Bishop, until the stumbles turned into steps. And then a sprint. (Y/N)’s heart jumped to her throat, and her grip on Torchbearer’s arm tightened as he made distance between Nico. That was until a rock in the stream tripped him up and he went catapulting to the ground, hitting it hard and fast. She winced, shoulders slumping when Nico quickly caught up.
God fucking damn it.
Her spare hand came up to scrape over her face, defeat lingering in every crevice of her body. That is, until a warmth embraced her other hand. It took a few seconds for her to process Torchbearer’s hand in hers. When she looked over to him, his eyes were still fixed on Nico as he dragged him towards his horse. His shoulders were tense, and his gaze stony. Both of them knew that they wouldn’t be able to take him home today, but no one deserved this.
“This isn’t right,” (Y/N) whispered, squeezing his hand, and Torchbearer sighed, lowering the torch in his hand slightly until she could feel the warmth radiating from it.
“I know.”

Okay i lied i am too lazy to write down my thoughts for each letter. But instead i will write down my complete lore theory.
Vessel is the original beginning of the lore. Ode to sleep is the start. In this song Clancy subconsciously builds the world dema to escape from reality, to find some sort of safety, comfort and routine.
Routine here is very important because it will also refer to Routines In The Night.
Clancy has a severe case of anxiety, insomnia and depression. In ode to sleep he says he is hearing voices, his demons saying he will be a goner. Clancy can’t sleep at night. So he writes songs. He subconsciously builds himself a world in his mind to be safe, to have structure, to calm his anxiety. Dema is very strict, everything is gray, all the tasks can be handled efficiently. There is no real identity, nothing out of order. Everything is precise.
Clancy chose Keons as his bishop for himself. He is seeking warmth yet someone firm to show the way. Keons is gentle yet stoic. He is the caretaker in Dema.
Nico on the other hand is his trauma. The root of his anxiety, fear and depression. He is the unknown danger that lurks everywhere, even in what was supposed to be Clancy's safe space.
Whenever it turns dark, whenever he is alone, he can hear Blurry. He tries to avoid to sleep but after some time and sleep deprivation he will fall asleep.
Bringing us to Routines in the night. This song represents Clancy's headspace. Entering his rem cycles he goes trough a hall way looking at the doors, some have "stay out" spray painted in white. Clancy spray painted these doors. Behind these doors he got "smeared" by Blurryface. He has to navigate trough his head to find the right door and he uses his songs to find them.
Letter Clancy is a former sleep cycle trip. He went trough the wrong door. And at the end he also realized it, questions if he had been trapped and that he was the original one so seizing shouldnt have worked.
But all the Clancy's were original ones. The one from the Clancy tour was an original one too, but he went trough the wrong door, Blurry trapped him and made him lose everything in exchange of power Clancy couldn’t control.
Current Clancy in the Contract also went trough the wrong door. He is in Blackspace (if u guys know omori … u know). He is trapped deep inside of his mind, with his worst fear and he has to find out. And he does by realizing that he indeed is trapped in a hallucination. He is remembering slowly what happened in the other doors.
I think you could also say that the Blackspace is Voldsoy, the island of violence. Voldsoy is on the other side of the paladin strait. Paladin strait could be interpreted as the floor/hallway, dema is a door, trench is a door, voldsoy is a door, etc.
Everything about Voldsoy is wrong. Fake. Its a door that appeared because of his migraines. Its painful, violent, the root of his intrusive thoughts. Its not reality, its the darkness and pain in him. So in the contract Clancy falls into this island when Blurry chokes him.
It was the real Torchie's plan to happen like that. Bc to overcome his fears and acceot the past, Clancy has to face Blurryface. And to find Blurryface, they have to lire him out of a door to the Paladin Strait. The horror trips will stop when Clancy manages to clear Voldsoy. Which he is doing now with Torchies help.
Torchie is Clancy's light and guide. But there is also a voldsoy version of him. The voldsoy version is fake, a hallucination yet still the torchbearer. The real Torchbearer tho cant enter Voldsoy bc its devoit from light. He cant enter Clancy's darkest pits.
Which why in Choker Clancy has to sign a contract of his fears alone. But hoping that Torchie will change his circumstances.
And in Breach i think Torchie will find a way to help and guide Clancy out, to close away all bad doors, to win against blurry so Clancy can have restful sleep again
#i didnt think much about this yet tho#this is just what appeared in my head just now#trying to put things together#if there are some mistakes i am sorry kfkdkdk#tøp#clancy lore#twenty one pilots

Twenty One Pilots - Overcompensate theories (whoo!)
It's a face of someone who put so much lore in the MV that I genuinely don't know where to start
Pt.1 - MV
So the MV takes place right after the end of The Outside MV, pretty easy - logical Now are we relly back in Trench? Seing all the maps, and the way back from The Outside to Jumpsuit? Tracing back the map? Being welcomed? lol. no
Tyler (or Clancy, am I deadnaming him now???) is using the powers, that were mentioned in I Am Clancy video and the one that Ned gave him in The Outside MV As we can see Bishops still wants him to lure people, to make them surrender to live how the Bishops wants them to
So since Tyler is just using someone else to pretend that it's him we can assume that Josh is also a projection
Why is Josh here? Maybe as a representative of Banditos
Now we play heavily in the symbolism of mask. Of course mask symbolizes the difference between a fictitious identity and a real identity. But here we can see something interesting. If Tyler is taking off his mask he is his true self, yet if someone else tries to take it off you can see a different person
So let's see what the hell is Tyler even doing in the MV itself. Well he is doing both jobs. On the surfice, he is doing what the Bishops wants him to. But actually he is showing people some kind of code. (I am sure that all the gestures weren't just a silly choreography). He is showing them his true self (no mask) and giving a presentation on the secrets of Dema. I believe he is sharing the information that normal people were never supposed to know
Like the lyrics of Shy away, he is trying to "Just break the cycle in half". Break people's belief in the religion that the Bishops created and to ultimately take away their power
And after the lesson in the backrooms (lol I don't know how to word it differently) people have tape on their shoulders. But not only the red one. We can se the yellow tape. The legendary Bandito's tape
But what is the meaning of the end? For me people were so used to following the rulers, the rules and doing what they were told that after changing their mindset about the Bishops they still felt the need to follow somebody. That somebody will be Clancy
other small details will be nine red lights for nine Bishops
Tyler having a symbol for the band logo
So is Tyler tring to break the cycle from the very core? Well maybe, for sure what he does now is a complete diversion
Boy is ready to take a revenge, he even brought his best buddy to help
Pt. 2 - Lyrics
We need to start by translating the intro for sure so:
Diese kleine unheimliche Insel hat mich zu einer Waffe gemacht (From German) - This scary little island has turned me into a weapon
Wir glauben beide (From German) - We both believe
Cette petite île étrange a fait de moi une arme (From French) - This scary little island has turned me into a weapon
Nous croyons tous les deux que nous pouvons l'utiliser pour changer l'élan de cette guerre (From French) - We both believe we can use it to change the momentum of this war
So this is pretty much what we know from I Am Clancy video. Tyler and his powers are used by the Bishops to cause harm
And we already saw that first line, which comes from Clancy’s letter from 2022 posted on the dmaorg.info website.
I created this world / To feel some control /Destroy it if I want / So I sing, "sahlo folina" / "Sahlo folina" - This part comes from Bandito. It could be the call for Banditos, to tell them to beware of what is going on. Or it is the way of teaching the people the special code - which sahlo folina is for sure a part of
Earned my stripes - he earned his position in the city, possibly because of his powers
Bless your ear holes while you react, acting / Gobsmacked - maybe people were sent to this place by the Bishops to mess with their brains, but since Tyler is talking about something different to them they are confused
I feel like I was just here, same twitchin' in my eyes - he started just like those people, brainwashed with no sense of reality
Don't sleep on a boy who can fall asleep twice / In the same night - so he can die twice? Or maybe it is the dig that he is working on both sides, just undercovered
and won't hesitate / To maybe overcompensate - simply, Tyler is ready to kick some Bishops' asses and take revenge for everything wrong they ever did to him and other people
I said I fly by the dangerous bend symbol - the symbol that Bishops were making in Nico and the Niners Mv OR The symbol that Tyler uses (what he makes with his hands) is dangerous for Bishops, because it is a sign of rebellion OR (This one makes the most sense) it's U+2621 ☡ CAUTION SIGN, which was created by no other than Nicolas Bourbaki group of mathematicians. Nico is very important, since in Morph we have the lyrics of "He goes by Nico / He told me I'm a copy". So was Nico the first one to discover Clancy's powers?
And then by the time I catch in my peripheral - the peripheral vision is what you can see to each side or up and down without moving your head, or everything that you can see that isn't in your central vision. The peripheral vision might be the same as the rearview from Choker. So this is everything that he saw in Dema on accident, all the secrets that he cought with his eye. Once he saw them he is ready to change everything
Where am I from? I was born right here, just now / Originated right in front of your eyes - Clancy is from Dema, simple as that. He is the citizen and the escapee
If you can't see, I am Clancy, prodigal son - the reference to The Bible. Prodigal Son is "a man or boy who has left his family in order to do something that the family disapprove of and has now returned home feeling sorry for what he has done". Tyler for sure returned, bus is he really sorry? Or the Bishops made him act like he is?
Done running, come up with Josh Dun / Wanted dead or alive - JOSH DUN MENTIONED. But also comming to Trench with Josh could be a sign that Clancy wants people to see that Banditos are not bad people. Not someone who you should fear
So now you pick who you serve, you bow to the masses - make a choice if you gonna change your life or stay in the circle of madnesss
Half empty, half full, save half of your taxes - again, make a choice weather you're gonna think positively or negatively (glass half empty/half full)
Then overtake your former self - become a better person, better version of yourself and live your truth
Days feel like a perfect length / I don't need them any longer, but for goodness sake - just a perfect condition to make a change
Do the years seem way too short for my soul, corazón / Way too short for my soul, corazón - it is the reference to all the years Tyler lost while working and living in Dema
A wild ride, as always...

Bang Creator Interview: Tumblr: @twist-shout-and-shells | AO3: Aint_No_Holy_Ghost
The Collaboration period has begun! In these quiet months before works are due, we want to foster a sense of excitement, camaraderie, and celebration among our participants. To that end, all participants were given the option of a formal interview by our mod, Dema, or an informal “ask-game” survey. We hope you enjoy getting to know our phenomenal creators as much as we have!
This is how local political unrest can help your love life!
Izzy and Dema talk writing (surprise!), trying and failing to catch a train, and Those Greek Guys
Dema: Starting current events (at the time of the interview): It's pitch writing time! How's it going?
Izzy: I've reached the part where the fun and games end and the heavier plot begins, so I'm moving more slowly. I totally lost control of the direction my story was going after chapter 3. But it's been a great time writing this story!
Dema: It is funny how our own stories can get away from us. I think I have my vibes pinned down and I almost always deviate. Does that tend to be your experience or are you usually a make-a-plan, stick-to-the-plan-type of writer?
Izzy: I try to be a no-plan writer. That's usually how my stories start: I get an idea and start in it with no real direction. But eventually I'm forced to develop some plan for where I'm going, and I try to stick to it. But I think the nature of stories is that sometimes they just write themselves and I'm simply their vessel.
Dema: I'm trying to remember which writer described it as trying to catch a train...
Izzy: That sounds familiar... But I can't remember either.
Dema: Wow, it's gunna drive me crazy. I'll put it in later… it was basically, you're on foot, and inspiration is like a train, and you're just grabbing onto whatever you can grab. Except I'm pretty sure a nobel prize-winning writer said it so it sounded much better.
[Narrator: Dema never did find the original source, and it really will drive her crazy. If you know it, tag her!]
When you say you eventually need to develop a plan, at what point do you realize you need to do that?
Izzy: Either when I run out of inspiration or when I have a clear idea of where I want to get, but no idea of how to get there. With my story for the DABB it was the former: after writing three chapters non-stop I hit a brick wall of "alright, and where am I going with this?"
Dema: I was going to ask about the DABB next! Did you have your preliminary idea before you decided to join in?
Izzy: Yes. It was an idea that had been kicking around in my head for a long while, but that I wasn't sure I should actually write because it's a) kind of a cliche and b) not a very popular pairing, but eventually I decided to just get it out there anyway. It started with a very particular line of dialogue and grew from there.
Dema: Oh, we love a rarepair in this house…And of course, I know what it is, and am excited.
Izzy: Lol! It was strange for me actually, becoming a rare pair writer. The first big bang I participated in was for Supernatural, a pairing with 100k fics on their tag. Now I'm writing for a pair with 100 fics, 4 of which are mine.
Dema: Incredible. You are holding down this fort. Also I love this little teaser. When did you start writing for DA?
Izzy: October 2022 (We're in 2024 already, jesus Christ)
Dema: Yes, unfortunately it is a daily shock for me as well. But I love how many people come into the fandom and create new fanworks even so long after the last game came out. What drew you in? Were you already hanging around the DA fandom before 2022?
Izzy: I started playing...at the end of 2021, I think. My brother introduced me to the franchise and my autistic little brain became obsessed with it. I was going to name my favorite game and protagonist, but considering they're the center of the fic, that'd be a spoiler. Anyway, I started following some DA blogs on Tumblr, and eventually thoughts of that game had consumed my every waking thought to the point I wrote two academic essays about it in my first year of uni. I wrote a significant portion of those 4 fics in the bus on the way to said uni. What drew me in most were the themes, really.
Dema: Any in particular?
Izzy: Found family and the tragic undertones of it all, mostly. I really like the way DA2 works as a tragedy in between two epics. The mage x templar conflict is also quite interesting. The tragedy x epic was totally the subject of one of those essays, btw. My professors suffer.
Dema: So I assume DA2 is your favorite of the franchise? Have you played all of them?
Izzy: Yes, it is! I've played all of them a couple of times, and DA2...several times. I don't know how many.
Dema: I'm so curious if you played them in order or started with DA2. The "best order" to experience the DA universe is an interesting debate.
Izzy: No, I played them in order. Personally, I think it'd be strange to play them out of order, at least for the first time, because of the way the stories tie into each other. What I did do was play DA2 twice before I played Inquisition because on my first gameplay I didn't really check the writing desk (there wasn't anything like that in DAO and I was still new to games more complex than The Sims) and I missed Fenris entirely. Detail: he's one of my fave companions now
Dema: I'm pretty sure I missed Sera on my first DA:I playthrough. It's wild how much it impacts the story, if you miss a companion!
Izzy: Yes! I mean, it's a whole arc and a lot of banter you just don't get. Fenris has so much good banter!! I truly can't believe I missed him.
Dema: When it comes to the DA fandom, would you consider yourself a gamer first and a writer or reader second, or something else?
Izzy: That's a really difficult question. I'm not exactly a big gamer. Like, I'm not a completionist and I mostly play on casual because my real focus is the story being told. So I guess what I truly am is a "reader of the game" lol. Though I have been getting more into combat strategizing and stuff like that for DA2, because you can only play something on casual so many times before it loses the appeal. If you'll allow me an anecdote, to paint a picture of the kind of "gamer" I am: one time I was playing DAI in my brother's room (his computer), and he walks in, sees me with a vein popping on my forehead, stupidly focused, staring unflinchingly at the screen, and asks "what the f* are you doing?" I was in the undercroft tinting armors.
And then, after that, I'm a writer.
Dema: This story is very relatable, lol. You've touched on the narrative structure of the franchise a bit and I'd love to hear more about that epic to tragedy to epic format, and why that resonated. Since you wrote a whole paper on it, just distill it into like four sentences, that shouldn't be hard right??? (I'm sorry)
Izzy: Oh, god. Ok. I'll try not to get too carried away :V
Dema: Please feel free. Here is a box to stand on, and a megaphone.
Izzy: So. Uh. The Greeks, right? Those guys. Aristotle, more specifically. The Poetics and all that. I think DAO and DAI follow the formula of classic epics: you have this larger than life hero going on a very important quest to save the world. Notice that those games are longer than DA2, kind of like an odyssey, if you will. There are many quests, many steps to the journey before the hero can rest. It's glorious and grand, regardless of whether the hero survives or not. Now DA2 follows the formula of tragedies even closer than the other games follow the epic. And I mean step by step aristotelian formula. You have Hawke, who rises into fame and fortune. The rising movement is very important, because you later have the downfall. He gets fame and riches, but everything comes with a cost, usually the lives of his family. So in DA2 you have this constant rise and fall movement, leading up to the end where (if you defend the mages, at least) Hawke is forced to leave behind everything they spend 7+ years building. They lose everything. In the essay I compared it to Oedipus: he becomes king and etc, there's this looming prophecy (remember Flemmeth when you do the amulet ritual), and in the end everything falls apart. That's as summarized as I can get lol. And Hawke starts out as a nobody! And the game is actually divided in acts!!!
Dema: I read a LOT of classics/Homer in undergrad and I love this. Ten out of Ten. Thank you! I could honestly listen to you talk about that epic/tragedy structure for another hour but alas, we are out of time. To close the interview, and just for fun: Can you come up with a buzzfeed-style, misleading, click-bait title for your fic? Without giving anything major away that would identify you lol
Izzy: Ok, so, this is as vague as I managed: This is how local political unrest can help your love life (Also, I just realized I went out to get wifi and did the whole interview wearing a DA2 sweater. It was a complete accident, I swear)
Dema: AMAZING. Please show me the sweater!!
Izzy: The culprit:

Dema: I love it. Thank you for chatting with me, Izzy!

*rips off shades* sirius x moody mentioned? for my health's sake. tell me.e evrything.
*Steals the shades and puts them on* ofc ml
I acc hc that despite being rlly skilled Sirius didn't get a job as an auror and he's so salty abt it bc they rejected him bc of his family and stuff
So he IMM goes to dumblewhore right after graduating and dema asks to join the ootp
at the ootp newbies get basic training n stuff and even mock missions and sirius aces those(duh)
and prrty much every one has a sort of respect for him
Except moody
And Sirius is IMM attracted to him bc he checks ALL the boxes (hes an absolute unit, hes traumatized, he sorta treats everyone like shit and he prolly showers once every 2 wks bc hes always on missions)
Moody has nvr been married or even that attracted to anyone and siirus sees this as a challenge
So he imm starts working hard on missions (even tho hes nvr ACC worked HARD on anything in his life bc hes nvr had to bc hes naturally skilled likevtgat ) recruiting members, getting Intel etc etc
Bc he's still a newbie and moody is practically a co-founder they rarely go on missions together
And Sirius rlly wants to go on a mission w him
And ev3ntually he does!! And they get one on one time (they stand 1m close to each other to spy)
And ev when they get together
It ?? Kinda ?? Works ?
Moody has trouble shaboinking bc of his injuries and sirius is like dw baby:) I'm;) flexible ;) for. ;) the ;) both ;) of ;) us ;)
And Sirius enjoys being w moody bc he's a rlly skilled wizard that's obsessed w him and moody isn't obsessed / rlly likes any1 like that so srs is special
And moody enjoys being w Sirius bc it turns out sex is acc a good stress reliever
BUTTT
it's still one of the more toxic sirius ships bc both parties are selfdestructing but they're doing it together sooo???
And Sirius loves pissing moody off on purpose
He gets take out food (moodys opp) and eats it wo putting a diagnostic spell to check if it's poison IN FRONT OF MOODY
and sirjjs loves the feeling of control it gets him
That the unit alastor who sent 32 des to Azkaban
Is begging crying WRITGING under him
(Is it bad that this is the onky sirius fship where i can see him ebing a top)
And moody is just
Pretty shitty in human relationships in general
soooo
(Moody is v much obsessed w sirius like to an unhealghy degree)
#First (and prolly last) time using bullet list for an ask#Posting this unedited and ugly so my wife doesn't khs#@mrstellmeafuckingsecret the things I do 4 u#Yap tag

if you'll allow me some space to share my ✨thøught✨ for the day:
obviously we see the parallels between tyler & vessel. i think they're opposite sides of the same coin. vessel gave in willingly to his adversary (sleep) and tyler was captured by his (blurryface). while vessel remains under sleep's power, tyler is constantly trying to run away. they both made music used to garner support for their adversary, yet vessel did it willingly and tyler did not. as you said, vessel yearns to sleep because that's when he's at peace, but tyler hates to sleep because that's when the bad things happen. and there's so many more but let me get to my thøught:
(come to looney town with me and imagine that sleep and blurryface are the same. sleep is the deity connected to vialism.)
clancy and vessel are two sides of the same coin. they followed the same path into dema, yet vessel gave up. never tried to escape. he allowed himself to be overtaken by the bishops. he committed to the religion, dreaming of his neon gravestone. he spreads the message they give him (he wears black body paint. come on. smearing). clancy doesn't let himself follow that same path, so he runs. vessel only fights back when he hears of clancy's triumph.
(i'm sorry i hope you enjoy my word vomit. happy timezones lovely🏼)
Em darling, respectfully, I'm kissing you on the mouth and taking a nap on the deep-ass wrinkles of your galaxy brian 🧠🌌
@fivewholeminutes Alex once you hear the album please come here, because we've had some Conversations™ about the ST x TØP parallels before and I know you'll love this.
(omg this is so long I'm so sorry)
Okay but this makes so much sense? Because in Vialism, in order to reach the status of glory and ascend to so-called Paradise, you must die and become a vessel (!!!!) to the bishops, who control your body through those antlers (!!!!!!!!!!!). VESSEL IS LITERALLY A VESSEL TO THE BISHOPS. HE IS DEAD AND IN "PARADISE".
The night comes down like heaven
Of course it does! That's what Sleep aka The Bishops want you to believe you silly boy 😭 Of course the night does not belong to God, it belongs to them. That's why Clancy can't fall asleep/dream - he must stay awake so the dark doesn't take over him (ODE TO SLEEP AAAAA).
What if Vessel was also trying to escape in that car with Clancy, before he surrendered aka Ascended?? What if Clancy made it out to Voldsøy alone, but Vessel was seized by Nico and therefore never met the Banditos? That's why he never references yellow. It's always red and blue.
Maybe the gold in Chokehold and Aqua Regia is him still holding on hope that the Banditos exist, that the myths are true. But he never made it out of the car with Clancy, so of course he wouldn't have known.
But in that case, just like Clancy is special and isn't affected by the powers, maybe Vessel also has a resistance? He surrenders to Vialism, to Sleep/Blurryface, gives up his name and identity in order to reach glory and fame and spread His word (omg how is this fitting so perfectly lmao), but a part of him is still aware of it all. He isn't really dead - he is asleep.
OH OKAY WAIT. SO! We know Keon is the most compassionate Bishop right? What if Sleep isn't specifically Nico/Blurryface, but a combination of the Nine? Or possibly the force behind them?
What if Keon was the one who had Vessel under control (possibly representing the romantic/affectionate nature of Vessel and Sleep's relationship), and since Clancy stabbed him, he severed that tie and allowed Vessel to regain some control of himself? Which leads us to Take Me Back To Eden aka Vessel fighting back. Maybe Euclid is what happens after Clancy reaches Nico's tower and have that final confrontation?
I don't think we know how Clancy initially reached Dema, but I'm assuming it has to do with his past - Dema offered an alternative/solution to all the pain he felt *if* he followed their twisted propaganda.
It took a while for Clancy to see what was wrong and gather up the courage to leave, so I'll assume it's the same for Vessel. They tried to escape but Clancy met the Banditos and the rebellion, which offered him a real alternative - hope. Vessel never did so of course he succumbed to Sleep/ the Bishop's brainwashing and accepted the deal - just like you said, he did it all willingly, while Clancy/Tyler didn't.
Also - Clancy was never alone since he had the support of the Banditos, of the Torchbearer, and of Ned. Vessel had to fight all by himself 🥲. Boy's got no friends 😔 (they are as brainwashed as he is).
AND THAT'S WHY!!! That's why TMBTE ends with Euclid, a song about hope and breaking the cycle - renewal - while still mourning for the life he lead up until now in Dema/ under Sleep's influence, while Paladin Strait is all about sacrifice, about the last effort to finally reach some peace.
I have a feeling the Paladin Strait mv will end with him dying - maybe his death will bring forth the liberation of the citizens of Dema and by consequence, of Vessel.
Also! Things I find interesting but can't really fit here but please latch on them (mostly typing this so I don't forget):
Trench has a lot of snow and trees, which could fit into the "diamonds in the trees / ancient canopies" imagery. Vessel spent more time there under Sleep/Blurryface's influence
The beach!! The water!! Both of them make a lot of references to water and That Beach aka sacred shores aka where Clancy and Torchbearer emerge from aka the only way out of Trench
CHLORINE IS A NEUTRAL CHEMICAL. NOT ACID NOR ALKALINE. The one used in pools (aka Ned's pool in Chlorine) is slightly alkaline according to Google. Coincidence???? I think not.
Also in Chlorine - Tyler makes a reference to the taste of lead. Hmmmmmm there's a connection there with Granite kinda? I'm reaching BUT!!
"And I'm done dancing to alarm bells" maybe it's a reference to him being done with SAI's propaganda/distraction?
The burning car / car crash references from both.
"I'm a waking hell and the gods grow tired" -> Vessel never fully ascended as the Bishops intended which causes a lot of friction between them
Josh and ii are the same person too. ii is Vessel's Torchbearer 🥹
Look. It's late (as I type this) and you come here with that amazing brain of yours connecting dots, and I can't help but latch on to them. I feel insane just typing this all out but!!! It makes SO MUCH SENSE OMG.
I wonder how Ned and Thrash fit into the narrative 🤔
#something something this is what could've happened to Tyler if he had never encountered the Banditos#ORRRRR WAIT. another flash thought#what if Vessel *isn't* an alternative version of Clancy. but of one of the bishops????#!!!!!#okay i'll stop for now but omg??????#i need a big ass coarkboard and some wool skeins#darya answers#sleep token#twenty one pilots#how do i even tag this 😭#sleep token lore#twenty one pilots lore#i guess???#clancy

more things about the livestream experience before i go completely insane.
(warning: this is going to be a long one)
1: why is [bishop] lisden's favorite song mulberry street and why is [bishop] sacarver's favorite (if i remember) the outside or stressed out....i just want to throw that out there
2: i absolutely adore the piano spread whatever thing tyler does before he goes and raps to migrane. i dont know what its called but when he runs his hand across the piano, it was good. how did he make it sound so good and musical...
3: why is the shy away livestream version the only livestream version that is on their official "the story" playlist??? i keep thinking about that (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3roRV3JHZzaU_kQ4-7uv-ahPbFabFmRW)
4: also thinking about how they cut off holding onto you before the outro. basically all there was of holding onto you was the "entertain my faith" part...thinking about the lore THERE. how a "good day dema" ad cut off the ending as well then they talk about how happy they are !! then how it goes to mulberry street after dan LISDEN says its his favorite then how it goes so blurry BEFORE THE AD??? ----"entertain my faith" sounds something like he..wants more from the religion but they cut him off from continuing the rest of holding onto you..like he got in trouble or something? i dont know man
5: "dema is bringing you this music collection that is vibrant with saturation"... "dema wants you to enjoy this collection"..."i just felt trapped before having this collection" ... "contentment"...."now that youve heard some of this collection you must be just like us, completely saturated"..."sometimes i close my eyes to try to escape...you know you cant escape sally...yes i know!" PROPAGANDA
6: why is he holding and grabbing his head so much. past the literal deadpan ass stare hes got through the majority if not all of the experience (like even while doing his little dances you'd think he'd be smiling during...), why does he grip his head so often-- i talked about this before but like what are they doing to him man he like grips his head in almost pain so much
7: also thinking about what the lore implications of jenna and debby being in this...because im pretty sure its shown jenna in levitate is a bandito i only assume debby was one too. why are they there?? were they caught too? or did dema make clones of them to use against josh and tyler?
8: "i cant wait to see you again"
9: ”in a world where this is as good as it gets…we miss you. we really do.”
10: also can we discuss the "CONTROLLED by" dma org and good day dema??? this photo is blurry as hell but CONTROLLED BY! not PRODUCTION OF! specific word choice..also dma org...dmaorg.info...why are clancy's letters posted on a website thats directly correlated with dema...letters from his time inside as well as time outside...can we like talk about that--like other than the obvious showcase that they have his letters and are using them to lie to the people, why are they going through dmaorg?? if clancy isnt directly with dema why are they--why are they going through there???
11: the whole cutscene before lane boy "there was a wonderful structure to the city that put my cares to rest and the responsibilities of the day seemed to be accomplished with minimal effort. once a task was taught and understood, our obligations timely, and it felt secure knowing tomorrows duties would be accomplished with the same efficiency. we all worked to represent our bishop with honor knew that each inhabitant of our region had a like-minded dedication to consistency....why do i kneel to these concepts? tempted by control, control by temptation. stay low, they say. stay low," then the direct contradiction of the redecorate rap he inserts, “with the bells and the whistles scaled back like an isolated track, and he feels trapped when he's not inebriated fair to say he's fairly sedated most days of the week. he might have made it if he lived on a different street. i repeat, scaled back and isolated he says he likes an open schedule but he mostly hates it if you're running to his room, take a breath before you break-in put your ear up to the door, tell me can you hear him saying?” using clancy's letters to show praise to dema then clancy (tyler) directly contradicting being like "no i hold zero praise for this city" and saying how hes isolated and sedated when hes not preforming--how he ALMOST made it out. how if he lived A LITTLE closer to the walls he wouldnt be there right now-
12: the way the old songs are "SCALED BACK AND ISOLATED" ???? A SCALED BACK AND ISOLATED TRACK????
13: the way ned is missing in chlorine when he was such a big part of chlorine
14: AGAIN this shy away version. one-why is it so important to the story, two-the 9 chairs for 9 bishops around the table, three-i fucking love the guitarist by josh i love his energy, four-THE WAY HE BREAKS A GLASS WHEN TALKING ABOUT BREAKING THE CYCLE IN HALF???, THE SCREAM !!!! so many things
[so many things you guys]
15: the fucking bishop ass dancers to stressed out....can we discuss that too. ALSO HOW THEY DRAG HIM TO THE NEXT STAGE FOR STRESSED OUT?
16: "but remember you should- *cut off*" YOU SHOULD WHAT SALLY SACARVER????
17: also firstly, how beautiful the ukulele part was...it was so gorgeous, also the transition was amazing. though past that, can we talk about how fucking sad he looked on that little boat with his uke? was that a mock to his escape attempts? to him singing to an empty sky in trench? singing to the banditos as they boat someplace safer? like...
18: THE MOCKING OF THE BANDITOS WITH THE FUCKING JUMPSUIT/HEAVYDIRTYSOULD PART?? why would dema do that? why would the bishops actively make josh and tyler look like the banditos if it wasn't just a mock? they dont like the banditos i thought why would they have them dressed up like that? like torchbearer bringing the torch to the stage and the look josh has on his face-then tyler also being in a bandito outfit. like--it has to be mocking his attempts. mocking the banditos or SOMETHING
19: heathens being in the livestream makes me think a little too but i dont know. "all my friends are heathens take it slow, wait for them to ask you who you know. please dont make any sudden moves you dont know half of the abuse."
20: also first, what was that alarm that was sounded before never take it? what happened there? second, the lore people have posted about never take it and how it was about the bishops? the way it was played while the alarm was going off and it was almost messier filming...
21: HIM ENDING THE LIVESTREAM WITH "nobody's coming for me" and his deadpan look (sobbing)
22: again, bringing up sally sacarver and dan lisden. sacarver and lisden being bishop's names and hosting this livestream. then showing directly how the bodies they are controlling are deteriorating as the show goes on. "The rules are that you can only seize or control a dead body, and only for a short while."
23: also just the heavydirtysoul part. starting to think about the: "I tricked Nico into taking me outside the walls. I created a fiery diversion. I escaped." i just keep thinking about that and:
24: "we've come for you, we've got people on the way, no chances, none at all" the way this is direct quotes from dan and sally, who are bishops, and it is also direct lyrics (or close to direct lyrics) from no chances. it just keeps cementing itself on everything ive already thought about
25: past just the livestream experience what is with josh and the bucket hat lol. i love it but like.-
26: "you ask me if its real, i see your shifting eyes, you dig in your heels, i dig my hole to die" also wondering why the "live from the outside" version is here rather than the original.-is it important
27: his little dances are my favorite thing-
28: CAR RADIO...car radio. thats it thats the point. just the car radio part is everything to me--its giving old car radio performances and im living for it. though also old car radio performances? did they put it together like that on purpose?
29: NEVER TAKE IT HAVING A BURNING CAR HOLY SHIT FIREY DIVERSION? LMAO just how close he is to the camera during this too...so many thoughts
30: "...you know you cant escape sally...yes i know!" IS THIS LIVESTREAM SHOWING CLANCY AND HOW HE DIDN'T ESCAPE EITHER?? SHOWING THAT HE HAS BEEN CAUGHT AND IF HE CANT ESCAPE, THE NOTORIOUS CLANCY, THEN YOU CANT EITHER???! SO MANY THOUGHT!!

honestly ive never thought about this! but you bring up an interesting point for sure (at risk of sounding like a discussion post)
personally i have always viewed seizing and vialism as separate things that the bishops then twisted together. i also always assumed dema, or at least most of it, was built by the bishops (or was taken over by them very early). i cant imagine anyone else would build a city like that in trench of all places. and the earlier the bishops have control, the easier it would be for them to fake a history that isn’t there. i do really like your thought on the statues’ permanence vs neons’ though, that’s a super cool detail!!
i talked abt what i think vialism was in the rbs, but the short explanation is that i think it was a religion built around the themes in vessel and meant to celebrate life coming to an end (achieving glorious gone) after spending your life as a vessel for a greater message.
i think seizing is dissonant to this—by taking control of a dead body, you are directly violating the sacrality of death and finally being laid to rest. but if the bishops have twisted vialism into solely focusing on the death and encouraging self destruction, they could now impose seizing imagery onto vialism to cover up what they’re actually doing (since based on what clancy writes, he had no idea what seizing was, and presumably no citizens do before he tells them either).
and i think the fact that the neds and the bishops are entirely separate could support this, since we know they know about each other (besides the fact that bishops have at least one set of antlers), but the neds are not tied to dema/vialism in any way (even physically, they are on a separate island). clancy remains the connection between them, as he does for every other aspect of the story, since the neds represent his imagination and the bishops represent his fears AND ofc his status as the only living non bishop who can seize/be seized. he’s the only character to directly encounter both of these entities, but outside of him, the neds and the bishops never deal with each other.
last thought, i don’t think there’s any way to get around seizing being a darker aspect of the story. no matter what angle you look at it from, or how you frame it, it’s kind of a horrifying power, even if clancy has to use it against the bishops. and i think this is broadly representative of clancy having to accept all aspects of himself (including that he is tied to the bishops) to break the cycle he’s stuck in. he can’t view things as black and white, he has to be the uniting point of trench/the banditos, dema/the citizens, the neds, and the bishops—all of these aspects, without exclusion.
but thats just my thought! i really do like what you pointed out lmao
hi guys im back to be really fucking annoying abt lore again
upon a rewatch of the “i am clancy” video, i caught a line i think people have glossed over. when talking about the creation of sai, he specifically says “they made me entertain the people. lie to them.” and you know what the big message behind scaled and icy was? clancy is dead. he fully tells us he was lying. like we already knew it was propaganda, and that the bishops were filtering everything he said, and then he outright says “i lied.” of course, this only holds merit if you believe what he says in this video (no im not bitter people think he’s lying in it. youre crazy)
also, just other thoughts—i think people are way too hung up on the tyclancy debate. besides the fact that i don’t understand why it’s still a debate at all, the stuff he talks about in this video goes so far beyond that.
first of all, he mentions his friends (“i can feel my friends rolling their eyes”). he has friends dude. i cant fucking get over that. he even laughs a little when he says it too. guys he has real friends besides torch. i think we moved on from that too fast. tell me more about your friends catboy
second of all and more importantly: “i am a citizen of an old city. well, they say it’s old, but there’s just no proof.” this was also hinted at in two of the fpe letters (transcriptions from ciancyisdead on twt)

and clancy also says vialism is a “hijacked religion”
WHY do we not talk about this more often. guys theyre faking a whole history within dema and manipulating a religion to keep the appearance up. we have no idea what vialism used to be before the bishops got ahold of it and began twisting it to fuel their seizing ability. the bishops’ corruption runs so much deeper than just clancy. his importance comes from his status as an exception and escapee, but like, the bishops are doing a lot outside of him. he has a personal connection that is the center of the story, as it should be, but like. there is so much more. why don’t people ever talk about vialism dude it’s so frustrating to only see the same couple of things constantly debated, especially because half of them have already been laid out, people just refuse to believe the information theyre given
okay leaving this here now bc one of my fics updated

this has to sit in ur inbox until you have time.
Okay so first thing, now that I sit and think about it, I'm really comparing the song itself for No Chances to the music video for Jumpsuit and basically making do by playing with my dolls because we haven't gotten a No Chances mv.
Big picture, both of these are stories about an attempted Perimeter Escape, and the lengths that the Bishops will go to in order to bring (Tyler, Clancy, the clique, me, you, etc.) back to Dema. "This is a story about cycles, and trying to break them."
In Jumpsuit, Dema attempts to recapture their subject by force, sending a Bishop on horseback to collect the escapee like a sheep that's veered from the flock; the tactics in No Chances focus more on negotiation and emotional manipulation, seducing the subject to return under the false premise of free choice.
The comparisons I want to draw here really narrow in on the bridge of Jumpsuit and the stripped down part of the second chorus in No Chances (2:24-3:05) which honestly feels about as close to a "bridge" as No Chances gives us. That chorus didn't have to repeat there, and certainly didn't have to be as painstakingly slow and intentional, but it makes for one of my favorite moments on the album, and I'll try and describe why:
Like many controlling and manipulative power structures, Dema's message in No Chances is two faced and double sided: the feigned concern of "We get bodies every day/ We want you home in once piece now" frames the act of submission to the Bishops' control as being in the escapee's best interests i.e., "We only want what's best for you," a line of thinking that's sure to resonate with many victims of abuse- whereas the ominous chanting refrain "We come for you/ No chances," is fully mask off and let's the victim know in private that the threats are just as real and vile as ever.
This second chorus though, to me feels like a moment of weakness, where the seductive appeal of settling back in to the familiar begins to take a grip.
The Bishops have caught up to you-
And their message is starting to seep in- perhaps you're actually listening to what they're saying for the first time instead of railing against it on instinct alone.
And right then, it's all so simple. It's all so easy. You've been running for so long. You've been fighting. You're tired. Trench is not where you belong, child, even you admit this much. It's cold. Wouldn't it be easier to just come home? To come back where you belong? Where it's safe? After all, "We want you home in one piece, now."
And this is where our two stories diverge. In both, something alerts our hero that this path is an errant one. In Jumpsuit, the Banditos rally around him, throw out their support, and give a striking display of solidarity that reminds him that this line is not the only way; you are not alone here and this is enough to fuel your fight. Unfortunately, in No Chances, our friend is not so fortunate. He learns that his submission is a mistake, not from a jolt of support, but from from a reinforcement of the knowledge that what he's known all along has been true. Even as he tries to cling to the seductive call of a safe home, he hears the sirens in the background- the red flags start to go off, the mask begins to lift.
In Jumpsuit, the newfound confidence in our strength and our networks of supports allows us to flee. But in No Chances, it's far too late. There is no flight. Dema's teeth are already sunk into you and you're theirs again. It's over.
At last, the mask is now completely off once again. The reality crashes in around you, and it crashes hard. "We come for you/ No chances." It's deafening. It's inescapable. And even in your defeat, even as you lie shivering and captured...
There is no protector this time. This story does not end with hope. There is no watcher on the cliffside. Truly, "Nobody's coming for me."

Anon wrote: Hi! I am an ISFP and I have a girl who is on my floor who is an INTP. We have talked a few times and hung out once or twice, but were never close. All of a sudden, she acts like we are best friends. Everytime she sees me she hugs and follows me, and she randomly comes into my room very often without asking me. When she does, she touches everything in me and my roommates room because she said she wishes she had our room, and she sits on my roommates bed with shoes on and touches her stuff even though I tell her to not do so and express uncomfortableness.
The girl spends a long time in our room and I can’t have her leave until there’s a situation where she’s forced to. Internally, I get really agitated and annoyed each time, especially because I don’t get along too well with her, but I don’t know how to tell her. I’ve been trying to be distant and show discomfort, but I don’t think anything changes.
She recently saw and followed me and my friend into my room, where she proceeded to do what she usually does. After she left to get something, my friend and roommate who came (i told her the girl was on her bed + other things she did) were complaining, and we all expressed that we were upset. I think she might have heard us, because the next times me or my roommate or friend saw her she didn’t say anything and looked away.
Hours later, she texted me that she knew I was annoyed with her and apologized. She only texted me though, and not my roommate or friend. However, I am worried that if I respond and say it’s okay, she will continue and/or want to be close friend. I feel really bad because I don’t know if I would fare well in a friendship. I was told that she’s really clingy but also mean/cold to people that “get on her bad side.” What should I do? I see her often because she is in my dorm. Thank you so much.
-------------------------
Reflect and figure out what is stopping you from doing what you know is the right thing to do.
- Is it because you fear hurting her? What about the ways in which she hurts you, e.g., by not respecting your needs, your space, and your boundaries? If she were just a shy/awkward person with poor social skills, then it would be understandable to be empathetic and grant her some leeway. However, she has continually shown a disregard for you, completely ignoring your requests to change problematic behavior. You don't owe her anything. You don't experience any benefits but only drawbacks from being in a relationship with her. You have every right to choose your friends, don't you?
- Is it because you fear negative ramifications? Does she have the inclination and power to make your life difficult? If there's no tangible threat, there's no reason to worry. If she does go out of her way to hurt people, what do you think she would do? Has she done things in the past that indicate a pattern of retaliatory behavior? Sizing up the threat properly would allow you to plan or prepare yourself better.
- Is it because you fear being disliked? If so, it's your problem to resolve. Do you really want to spend your life trying to please and appease people all the time, unable to handle any kind of negativity? You have to accept the reality that you can't be friends with everyone.
Everyone's got their own way of interpreting things and they sometimes misinterpret situations due to irrational hangups and triggers. You're not responsible for anyone's hangups and triggers except your own. Obviously, it's not good to purposely aggravate people. However, if someone is determined to dislike you for spurious reasons, it's out of your hands. All you can do is behave ethically and let go of the things you can't control. Try your best to not be mean, but remember that there is no way to communicate such that you never offend anyone. Miscommunications happen and it's up to you to handle them gracefully.
You could leave things as they are now, let the feelings die out, with no further communication other than what is demanded by civility. You could speak calmly and straightforwardly about how the relationship isn't working for you, giving reasons such as how you have nothing in common or how her behavior doesn't align with your needs and boundaries, etc.
People naturally come together and move apart for a variety of reasons. To have good communication skills means that you don't blow things out of proportion or get drawn into melodrama. If necessary, work on your communication skills, see the article on Communicating through Conflicts.

Hi :) Are you following the zheng shuang scandal? Would you say that her career is pretty much over now? The rate the news has been unfolding is so crazy to me. It’s only been 3-4 days. Was wondering if the gov would handle her matters personally.
Hello Anon! Yes, I’ve followed the news about the actress, primarily because it offers insight on how the current administration deals with stars exhibiting what it deems as “immoral” behaviour. As of today (2021/01/26), it’s difficult to imagine her career will survive at all. While she isn’t the first to be categorised as a “bad-history entertainer” (劣迹藝人), she’s the first to be explicitly banned by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA; 國家廣播電視總局), the department that controls—and censors—content of all radio, television, satellite, and Internet broadcasts in the country. Before, the NRTA didn’t publicise the names of the entertainers the government no longer wishes to see, which allows a possibility for reversal in a few year’s time if the “bad-history” wasn’t too damaging, and production companies are willing to take a risk and produce shows with the entertainers that may be difficult to pass the censorship board. But with such a high profile announcement, the government’s stance is unlikely to turn around in a foreseeable future.
Hmm. Let’s backpedal a little to get everyone on track. Before, I’ve shared some info re: the censoring of books, of audiovisual media. What if the government decides to “cancel” an entertainer instead? How does it do it? What are the standards?
The actress’s downfall is a (sad) example.
I shall skip names, the gossipy elements. Whether she made mistakes or not, no one deserves having their private matters exposed and sensationalised like this; no one should have to undergo such a humiliating, public trial. Essentially, the heart of the story goes as follows: the actress, a romantic-lead type who has been popular for several years, secretly got married. On 2021/01/18, her estranged husband claimed on Weibo that the couple had two children using US-based surrogate mothers, and the actress had abandoned the children in the US under his care. Meanwhile, his friend provided an audio from approximately the 7th month of the surrogate pregnancies, at which time the marriage was already falling apart. In the audio, the actress expressed dismay that abortion was no longer possible; her family talked about abandoning the newborns at the hospital or giving them up for adoption.
The next day (2021/01/19), the actress responded. She didn’t deny the existence of her surrogate children and claimed that she had been extorted. More importantly, she said the following:
“身為藝人我深知我國疫情的防控與重視。** 在中國國土之上我沒有違背國家的指示,在境外我也更是尊重一切的法律法規。”
“Being an artist, I deeply understand the attention my country (China) has placed on controlling the epidemic. On China’s soil, I didn’t do anything that violates the directives by the government. Outside the country, I’ve been even more respectful of all laws and regulations.”
This apparently hit a nerve of the administration. On the same day (2021/01/19), the Communist Party’s Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission (CPLAC; 中央政法委) — one of the most powerful commissions that oversees the entire legal enforcement system of the government — published an opinion piece , in which it said:
但[女星姓名]的回应,却通篇强调自己没有违法,丝毫没有任何悔过、道歉的意思。…
But the response of (name of the actress) insists that she didn’t violate any laws, doesn’t show a hint of remorse, regret…
要知道,在我国代孕行为是被明确禁止的。… 作为中国公民,因为代孕在中国被禁止,就钻法律空子就跑去美国,这绝不是遵纪守法。…
It should be known, that in our country, surrogacy is explicitly prohibited … as a PRC (People’s Republic of China) citizen, to use a legislative loophole and go to the US due to the ban of surrogacy in China is absolutely not obeying the law…
It should be known, that hype devoid of significance will not bring in traffic (click rates). The charisma of public figures comes from their noble professionalism, good social image, high quality works in character and content, and not from “personalities” rooting in craziness, petulance, mischief, the selling of one’s lack-of-love and misfortunes. As a public figure, to wildly roam at the edge of the law, to place such wrong and chaotic world views, values and life perspectives in the public eye, to cause harm to the morals of society — that is definitely not innocence!
Things to note here:
1) The CPLAC reacting within a day of the actress’s statement ~ unlikely enough time for teasing out / verifying the facts or truth of the matter.
2) The implication that Chinese citizens must follow Chinese laws, even when they’re overseas. (What about, for example, same-sex marriages?)
3) These words that, IMO, bordered on insult: “craziness, petulance, mischief, the selling of one’s lack-of-love and misfortunes”.
The actress’s career was hanging by a thread with this opinion piece. State-controlled agencies chimed in, many of which echoing CPLAC’s stance that surrogacy is explicitly prohibited in China. By night time of 2021/01/19, rumours abounded that multiple media companies had already listed the actress as a “bad-history entertainer” and would be shelving all her works and cancelling all her scheduled appearances. Prada terminated her endorsement.
The final drop of the hammer happened a day later, in the evening of 2021/01/20. The NRTA issued a statement that explicitly named the actress and contained the following lines:
代孕不是私事,与法不合,有违社会主义公德。…
Surrogacy isn’t a private matter. It doesn’t agree with the law, violates the civility of socialism…
从事广播电视和网络视听的演艺人员尤其是知名艺人,作为公众人物,有很大的社会影响力和示范作用,应当自觉践行行业自律准则,严格律己修身,严私德,讲大德,守公德。
Artists who work in TV and web audiovisual productions, especially famous entertainers, have significant social influence and demonstrative roles as public figures. They should be conscious about the self-discipline required for their industry, be strict in their behaviour and personal virtues, speak of great kindness and defend civility.
行业主管部门的相关政策要求是明确的,严格的。广大人民群众不愿意、不接受、也不允许丑闻劣迹者污染我们的社会公德和公序良俗。
Policies regarding the management of the industry is clear and strict. The public does not want, does not accept, does not allow those with scandals and poor history pollute the civility, the good order and customs of our society.
我们不会为丑闻劣迹者提供发声露脸的机会和平台,一如既往,坚决为广大人民群众提供健康向上荧屏声频。
We will not supply opportunities and platforms for those with scandals and poor history to sound their opinions, to show their faces. Just as before, we are determined to provide audiovisual content that is healthy above all.
And just like this, less than 72 hours after the estranged husband posted on his Weibo, the actress’s career is over. The NRTA, which has The Say on who and what get exposure time on screen, has spoken. The actress had no way of self-defence. Her 11 million followers on Weibo didn’t get to decide whether she’d stay or she’d go.
This is a brutal punishment but for what, exactly? Some netizens have whispered while the others shout their condemnations ~ but I thought…. surrogacy isn’t illegal?
And they’re correct: surrogacy isn’t explicitly outlawed in China, despite what CPLAC and other state agencies has claimed. In 2001, the Ministry of Health banned medical institutions and health care workers from "practicing any form of surrogate technology". However, no laws have ever passed that prohibit individuals from commissioning or providing surrogacy services—especially when the services are overseas.
The actress, therefore, wasn’t lying when she said she didn’t do anything that violates the directives by the government on China’s soil. Her “crime” of using surrogate mothers was, at worst, a legally grey area. For years, China has had a booming, semi-underground surrogacy market, their client base including older parents who wish to have another child after the country relaxed its birth limit (the so-called “one-child policy”) in 2015, infertile couples, and to a lesser extent, the LGBT+ community. Blued, China’s most popular gay social networking/dating app, has offered overseas surrogate services for several years that connect their clients with US-based surrogates. It pulled the services after the actress’s incident.
But all that doesn’t matter. People in China understands this: the law book is there, but those in power at the moment always have the final word ~ and that word doesn’t have to match the legal codes, or the previous final words of their predecessors. As for the moral outcry re: the actress having wished to abort / give up her unborn children, it’s worth mentioning abortion has long been used to to enforce the country’s decades-long birth limit policies, and forced, violent late-term abortions were not unheard of. Many people in China are also aware of that.
But again, it doesn’t matter.
I’ve described the government’s reactions in detail because they put in words the expectations it has of its entertainers. Entertainers in China are expected to not only obey the laws, but also have proper world views, (moral) values and life perspectives (collectively called 三觀, literally, “three views”) as defined by the government. The state has also made clear that such expectations grow with the fame of the entertainers.
Entertainers at the top of the c-ent industry, especially the idol types with many young fans, are therefore expected to get things right. These opinion pieces are reminders that the administration keeps a close eye on them, can “cancel” them with a few words if they fail.
The term for “canceling” an entertainer is 封殺 (literally, “seal and kill”).
The actress isn’t the first to be “cancelled” by the government. The first time the NRTA issued a directive regarding “poor-history entertainers” (劣迹藝人) was in 2014, which essentially called for shutting out any entertainer with a history of bad behaviours. It demanded all production companies, TV stations, online media companies and theatres to stop producing / broadcasting audiovisual content with these people, citing that TV and film media should be used for “spreading the progressive culture of socialism and promoting socialist core values” (”传播社会主义先进文化、弘扬社会主义核心价值观”). As these entertainers will no longer be exposed to an audience, these directives effectively kill the career of most who are affected.
What makes up the “poor-history” of “poor-history entertainers” then?
- The 2014 edition named drug use and prostitution (including hiring a prostitute) specifically.
- The 2018 edition, an announcement made by a top NRTA official, stated that audiovisual programmes should adhere to the “Four Never-Use” guidelines when inviting guests for their shows. Those guidelines were vague but for the last line: “In addition, the NRTA explicitly requests that programmes should not use entertainers with tattoos; (those associated with) hip-hop culture, sub-cultures (non-mainstream cultures), decadent cultures.” (”另外,总局明确要求节目中纹身艺人、嘻哈文化、亚文化(非主流文化)、丧文化(颓废文化)不用。”)
Some may be asking: wait … hip-hop?
Yes.
It was believed that hip-hop artists were targeted due to a scandal at the time, in which (another) well-known actress had an extra-marital affair with a rapper. Analysis of the rapper’s lyrics found sexism and suggestions of drug use (the rapper later apologised and claimed his “core values” had been distorted due to influence from “black music”.)
As this guideline hasn’t been retracted under any formal capacity, it can still be used to axe any show, shut out any entertainer.
If you’re wondering about SDOC, for example, this again illustrates the need for some … mind-reading skills to navigate life in China. A good way to achieve that without superpowers is to have the right connections to higher-ups, who can offer hints on what can get away at the moment and what cannot (this is true not only for c-ent, but for most business practices in the country; building 關係 guanxi— literally, “relationship”— is a must for those who wants a piece of the Chinese market).
- In 2020, NRTA expanded the “no exposure” rule to live-stream shows on the internet as well as on- and offline charity events, where previously “cancelled” artists had started to find jobs in to make a living. While that notice didn’t further elaborate on what makes “bad history”, the accompanying article in People’s Daily (The State-controlled Newspaper) went into more details. In addition to drug use and prostitution specified in 2014, the article named tax evasion; lying about education levels; *suspected* (涉嫌) extramarital affairs, domestic violence and inappropriate speech.
It’s worth emphasising that many of these activities are not illegal. “Suspected” also means these activities do not have to have happened ~ it’s the impression that they’ve happened that counts. Hence, back to the actress who had surrogate children, not only did it not matter whether surrogacy is actually illegal, it didn’t matter whether the leaked audio was real or taken out of context, or that the babies didn’t end up being aborted / adopted. The article once again stresses that private matters are no longer private for entertainers who are in the public eye as social influencers, and these directives on “poor-history entertainers” — colloquially called “封殺令”, with 封殺 meaning the “seal-and-kill” and 令 meaning command (as in Chen Qing Ling 陳情令) — are there to set the standards, the bottom-line for c-ent. It did call for more specifics in future directives: more guidance on what makes “bad history”, the ways these entertainers can redeem themselves. As of today, however, such specifics have not been provided. As a result, to avoid crossing the NRTA, the media has ended up “overachieving” in certain cases, wiping out the screen time of entertainers who only have a remote chance of being viewed as having “bad history” to play it safe. Last October, for example, a young singer was briefly edited out of all his recorded shows because his parents (not him) was revealed to be deadbeats owing millions in debt.
And so, without a known way out yet, “bad-history” entertainers such as the actress will likely remain “sealed and killed” for a long time. Entertainers recently caught with extramarital affairs ~ a relatively minor “offence” ~ have been missing on screen for 2-3 years, and the heavy-handed treatment by the government this time is likely to put a pause on any companies considering using these people again. Even if they’re finally allowed some degree of comeback, their career prime will be over and and their NRTA “sentence” will likely follow them everywhere they go, which makes their getting face time in any high-profile (high-investment) projects unlikely. Those who must work to make their ends meet will probably end up like so many entertainers who never made it big, or are at the very tail end of their career ~ drifting from city to city singing in local clubs, getting paid poorly and harassed by rude customers...
===
** A side note: In case anyone wonders why she brought up COVID, it’s a similar idea as Gg apologising for “佔用了一些社會公共資源” “occupying social resources” in his first team post after 227 (2020/03/01). For an authoritarian regime that has placed the most attention on maintaining social stability (ie. quelling dissent), disrupting the government’s narrative re: current events and potentially reversing the overall tone the administration is trying to reach in public discourse can be a greater offence than any actual “wrongdoing”. 227, as an incident, was guilty of that.
(And I’m bringing this up because I find this relevant to the safety asks I have in my inbox. Arguments among fans do not themselves render Gg and Dd unsafe, but can become a significant issue if they “occupy social resources”, disrupt the government’s narratives and/or its political machinery in some ways. IMO, 227 took a dangerous turn not because the fans were arguing over a piece of fanfic, but because a group of fans took over the reporting machinery intended to rat out dissidents. It was a mistake that I hope no fans ~ regardless of who they support ~ will repeat again.)

Also I think it's really funny we have been interpreting the Vultures as a call back to "flightless birds" since trench when.... No? Vultures fly. We're just associating bird with bird lol
I'm guilty of that. But yeah, "island of flightless birds" is metaphorical. "All WE ARE is a isle of flightless bird, we find our worth on giving birth and stuff".
Flying for Tyler has always been metaphor for liberty, self expression and being free from pain. Each of us being our own isle of flightless bird mean we all have potential that gets wasted.
Finding our worth on giving birth, when giving birth is to a modern human society more of a tradition and means of control than a means to survival is one of the things that traps us on our isles.
Like, Tyler is talking about entire different things through metaphor in this song, it's not to be taken literally.
It wasn't written to be part of dema, but of course it resonates with the dema storyline because the dema storyline is just a way Tyler found to make sense of things he's been saying since self titled. And also it's the same author.
I think I just find it silly for us to be always forcing self titled into dema, But when Tyler does things like this, how can we not, right? With these songs being played live after a decade specifically in this era, he is retconing it into the story.
And well, he's the author. And very much implying it's canon. So it is.
I gotta say I'm pissed that he's making Isle of Flightless Birds canon to the Dema storyline. I don't know why but I'm pissed.
For what we sall of the video so far, it's more of a literal representation of the lyrics. Unless I wws mistaken, there are some vultures plummeting near the tower, aren't there?
Like, IOFB is not a narrative. It's not literal, it's poetry about suicidal ideation. The video, tho...
The video is taking the song as descriptions of literal scenes. Which is okay!! Love me some call backs!
But unnecessary I think. However let's wait for the whole thing later today.

Here’s section 2, all wrapped up for you guys to enjoy!
1: "What is she doing?" Keons asked from the control room.
"I'm not sure, but it seems she's up to something, she's not taking the drone with her. We should go check this out for ourselves," Nico replied.
"But what if she's doing it in order to not look suspicious to the rebels? She's a really smart girl -"
"And I'm not saying she's not, all I'm saying is that it's unusual. If she didn't want them to be suspicious, she could have told the drone to fly in stealth mode, could she not?"
"Well, I guess that's right... But can't we just wait a few more minutes for her to give us some indication if there are rebels in those woods?" Keons replied, starting to feel like he's been betrayed by the one whom he loves the most.
"Alright, we'll have it your way, Keons. I'll give her two minutes. If she doesn't turn up in that time, you will be the one to find her and execute her."
"Yes, sir." Keons replies, deflated, a knot welling up inside his stomach.
2: As I was walking through the thick woods, I began to think of what the people back home were saying about me. Were they proud that I went off in search of these "rebels"? What was my father thinking about behind those palace walls?
Does he even miss me?
A few minutes into my walking around, I heard footsteps. Careful, soft footsteps, and I got excited.
They're here, they're here!!! Real Banditos, I get to finally see them, finally talk to them!!!
"Hello?! I know you're out there, I can hear your footsteps! Come out, please! I promise I won't -"
"Won't what, Savanna? Won't turn them in like you said that you would?" My father said, hurt encompassing his voice.
"Th- that's not what I-! Bu- But Dad! I- I wasn't- !"
"I'm sorry, Savanna, my daughter. I never meant for this to be this way. Just don't fight, and there won't be any pain." My dad said, a tear running down his face.
He's gonna kill me, feed me to the vultures, I thought, adrenaline pumping through my veins, I need to run.
And so I did. I ran at the fastest speed I could go, running through shrubs and prickly bushes, running for my life.
3: When I finally got to where I thought was a safe place, I collapsed.
I'm done running, I can't run anymore. I'm done.
I just sat there, thinking about my life, if I would make it out of this forest alive, and what they would do if they caught me.
Shall I be made to suffer the same fate as that man back in the city? Or will a worse fate await me?
I fell into a reluctant and fear-ridden sleep. A sleep in which I never wanted, yet needed immensely.
4: Suddenly, I awaken from my nightmare sleep to find two people, Banditos, hovering over me. One of them has short, shaven hair while the other has somewhat curly hair and a pair of yellow drumsticks. I attempt to utter out the words "Who are you guys?", but nothing comes out of my mouth, and I'm stuck trying to speak and making no sound.
"It's alright, don't strain yourself. You're safe now," promised the one whose yellow duct tape was around him in an 'X' shape.
I nodded, and they helped me up. We started walking into the camp.
When we got into the camp, the Bandito beside the one with the mask suggested that I should have a tour of the camp, and his friend agreed.
"I'm sorry, we really haven't introduced ourselves, have we. My name is Tyler Joseph, this is my friend and head of the Banditos, Josh Dun," Josh waves and smiles, and Tyler motions towards the camp, "And this is our camp. Make yourself at home, please,"
I nod my head.
"Do you have a name? I mean, if you're able to talk, that is. If not, we can get you something for that," Josh inquired.
Before I was able to try to speak, a flood of Banditos, young and old, came flocking towards me, Tyler, and Josh. All I remember of what happened next is that everything went black and I collapsed.
5: A young Bandito is patrolling the perimeter of the Bandito camp. As he walks, he scans the tops of trees and the edges of the beaten path below. Something catches his eye from the ground, beckoning him to take a closer look. As he stoops down, he finds a stranger's belongings. What lies there is a red robe and an identification card. The red robe smells of death and hurt. The name on the identification card reads Savanna Keons. The face seems familiar to the young Bandito. He knows this woman, but from where? He decides to put the red robe and identification card in his carrying sack and continue patrolling the outskirts of their small camp. He goes home and realizes who the young lady is and how he recognizes her. There will be a time to show this information, but now is not it, the Bandito thinks.
6: When I awaken, I seemed to be in an infirmary of some sort, and all I see in front of me is Tyler and something else. The "something else" was small and round, with a circular head, horns, and long ears. Its eyes were like deep chasms, vast and expansive. Its color was a silvery grey. At first sight, I was frightened. I'd never seen something like this before.
"What is that? What does it do?" I asked Tyler, frightened by the newness of the being.
"Oh, him? This is our little buddy, Ned!", Ned waved at me shyly, "He's a nice companion to have, not really used to new people though. I'm sure he'll grow to like you, though!"
"Oh, ok! Well, hi, Ned!" I said while sticking my hand out towards him.
Ned just takes a couple of steps back, like he’s frightened of me.
Tyler looks confused towards Ned, asking, “What’s wrong, little buddy? What is it?”
He turns to me, saying, “He’s not usually like this, I’m sorry, I just don’t understand why he’d be like this.”
I start to get nervous, “Is there any other times when he’s like this?”
“Yea, actually, he’s usually like this when there are Bishops around, but I don’t see any, and he’s doing it only towards you, oddly”, he says, scratching his head.
I had to make an excuse, and quick, “Uh, well, I got tackled by a Bishop, and I fought him and ran away,”
Tyler looked quite unimpressed, but just said alright and left it at that, “So, how was your day so far?”
“Boring, seeing as I have to stay in this hospital bed til you guys decide what to do with me.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that, we’re going to have a meeting tonight, that’s one of the topics we’ll discuss,”
“Alright. Well, stay safe!”
Tyler kind of chuckles and says, “Alright, I will, Logan. You stay alive now, ok?”
“Ok,”
“Promise?”
“Promise”
7: “So, have we all came to a consensus?” leader Josh Dun inquires.
“Wait!” a young bandito exclaims, “I forgot about something important”.
“What is it, Jake?”
“I found this while I was walking the perimeter of our camp. It’s a Bishop’s cloak and a Dema identification card for a Savannah Keons,”
The entire crowd gasps,
“If you look closely at the picture, you’ll see it’s the newcomer”. Jake hands the cloak and card to Ned, who then hands it to Tyler.
Tyler and Josh take a while looking at it and debating what to do with the newcomer at this point, with all the new information that was presented just seconds ago.
“But Josh, she’s one of them! What if she came to spy on us? What if?”
“And, what if she was captured or found out the truth and is coming to start anew?”
“But, But what if-”
Josh puts his hands on Tyler’s shoulders, “Ok, ok, calm down, it’s all alright. Remember, my friend, everyone deserves a second chance, no matter what they’ve done,”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Tyler sighs.
“Now, go tell Logan to meet us at the bonfire tonight,”
“Alright,”
8: I was sitting on a stump fidgeting when Tyler and Josh came out. When I heard the flap of the makeshift tent door, I jumped up, terrified of what would come next. They already know, they already know, I’m gonna get fed to the vultures, or worse!!!
Tyler comes up to me while Josh hangs back, observing.
“Hey, Logan?” Tyler says when he gets closer to me. I start to get nervous and tremble
“Y-yes?”
“Uh, do you know what these are?” he shows me my past belongings: my cloak, badly damaged and worn, and my (former) id card, which insists on keeping me prisoner in my own skin.
I say, trying to keep the twang of fear in my voice at bay, to no avail, “Why are these here?”
“One of our Banditos picked these up patrolling the perimeter of camp. Are these really yours?” he inquired softly.
Terror runs through me as everyone’s eyes lock onto my frail being. I can’t keep it out as I yell, “It was never meant to be this way!!!” I fall onto the ground, my head forcing itself into my hands, curled up like a child.
I hear gasps, then silence.
After a while of this silence, I feel something touching my arm, like a kitten wanting affection. At first, I flinch at this new contact and yank myself up to a cradled sitting position, face wet from the salty tears that have striped patches of oil from my face, leaving them feeling like bandages.
When I look at what or who was touching me, it was Josh. He whispers to me, “It’s alright, we’ve accepted you into our crew. You’re safe from those who wish to do you harm here.”
Baffled by his actions, I say, “But I was one of them. I was sent to harm you guys,” I give a tear-filled inhale and exhale, “Why are you letting me in?”
He just smiles and says, nodding at Tyler at the end, “Because everyone deserves a second chance.” Everyone starts cheering and clapping, and Josh sticks his hand out to me. I grab his hand and he helps me up, “C’mon, we need to get you cleaned up, or else Ned’ll never warm up to you!” Josh says with a laugh. I laugh along, hearing everyone clapping and cheering me on. Me, not that dema kid who supported the murder of all those innocent people. That person was long gone, and I am what remains.
9: After everything goes quiet and all the applause stops, I inquire, “Hey, Josh, where are we going, exactly?”
“East, to where your past wrongs will be righted, to where you can be free to start anew.”
“Alright,” I say, and continue following.
When we finally get to where Josh was taking me, all I can say is wow. The place looked magnificent, like the angels themselves carved this place from the earth and put their hearts and souls into creating it.
There was a shallow, burbling waterfall trickling softly into a pond lined with several light-colored rocks, some sparkling and some not. This wondrous sight was lit by the vivid green lampshade of the trees, the leaves deflecting the sun’s rays here and there. There was greenery and assorted berry bushes and shrubs around the pond, and the entire place looked like it came from the garden of Eden.
After I was done taking in the awe of this mystical and magical place, Josh turned around while I bathed in the healing waters of this pond.
When I was done, there was a towel and a pair of Bandito attire in the tree next to me. I say thanks and josh replies with, “Don’t worry, I didn’t look,”
When we got back to camp, Tyler and Ned were waiting on us. Josh went up to Tyler, did a secret handshake, and introduced me as the new member of the crew.
He started the bonfire, and for the first time in a long time, I was with family, with people who wouldn’t hesitate to die for my sake, and for who I would die for in an instant. I was with people of my own kind. At that very moment, I could care less about what they were saying about me in the city, cause they’re talking about someone who never was.
10: My first week at camp, and I already feel at home. I’ve gotten better acquainted with our leaders, Ned too, and found a couple of friends among the crowd. A couple of notable ones I met early on; one of them happened to be the first Bandito I ever seen, remember him? Well, it turns out his name is Rodney Garron, and he’s an aroace enby who’s in a platonic relationship with his straight adhd counterpart George Evergreen. When I first saw them both in camp, Rodney almost had a heart attack, shouting, “You’re that Bishop kid! Don’t take me back! You can’t take me!!!!” Now that I’m thinking about it, their friend had to calm him down.
Oh! I’m sorry about the confusion, Rodney likes to be referred to as he or they. Anyways, back to it then.
After their friend calmed him down, he explained everything about himself, how he grew up watching Good Day Dema, how they came to the camp in the middle of a snowstorm, and how seeing a Bishop take off their hood and offer their hand took several hours of heavy meditation to get over. I laughed and said sorry to that last one.
On another note, I got to see someone I haven’t seen since I was in training up in the city. he used to be my teacher, he was my teacher for all of my training, and I was wondering what happened to him…
“I thought you were dead, teach?”
“Miracles happen, my young one,”
“But, they said you were exterminated! They said tha-”
“They say, they say, they say. They say one thing, but what does your heart say?”
I hesitate, give him a big hug, and demand him tell me how he escaped.
