Watched Distant, the Anthony Ramos-Naomi Scott two-hander that was filmed in 2020 but only started a quiet international rollout last summer. (It still isn't available in the U.S. yet, but when has that ever stopped me?) It's no masterpiece, but I couldn't understand why Universal has been so loathe to let anyone see it either. I came for Naomi Scott and the space-survival angle, but was pleasantly surprised by the worldbuilding and horde of (sadly generic) monsters. They're a cute couple too.

Now for the real reason for this post: I'm fascinated by how thoroughly Anthony Ramos has been typecast as "guy from New York City." There's Hamilton and In the Heights, of course, but in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Distant, his characters even come from his real-life borough of Brooklyn! I know he isn't completely tethered to the city because of Twisters... but he still paid NYC a visit in that one.
