A Comparrison between Az’s Chapter and Cassian’s Chapters in Acofas

Today I found myself inspired by @thereaderspeaks ‘s post and what I had to add about it, to write this long-ass post comparing Az’s chapter in Acosf to Cassian’s three chapters in Acofas.

@rhyssescups does an amazing job in this post (and @psychee92 in this one) of comparing Az’s chapter to Cassian’s POV in Wings and Embers. I’ll also attach @psychee92 ‘s comparison of both batboys’ attitudes after their respective solstices. But I’m going to concentrate on Az’s POV and Acofas rather than Wings and Embers.

There are a LOT of things in common, so when you add the posts linked above to this one, you’ll see how Azriel’s emotions and his interaction with Gwyn mirror those of Cassian. Everyday I find more peace of mind regarding Elriel.

Before I begin, I want to clarify that Emerie is not in Wings and Embers, but on Cassian’s perspective in Acofas. I had seen many people on Tumblr and on Twitter saying (by mistake) that she’s in W&E, so I wanted to point that out. It is Mor who is mentioned in W&E. How Cassian does not want to tell her about Nesta, etc. For more on that, check out the links I attached above.

There are many elements that Cassian and Azriel share in their chapters and I decided to divide them into categories. I’ll support them with quotes so that we have the receipts. With that said…

People who complain about people who draw/write Gywn with Az in sexual situations or with other characters because she was SA'd need to shut up. Ya'll dont hold that energy for Nesta, Rhys , Lucien or Feyre. People who have been SA'd can go on to have beautiful and fulfilling sex lives, especially with partners they trust and using Gwyns SA to diminsh the fact that she can be a sexual person (with Az or otherwise) is disrespectful imo.

I truly am sorry @loveyazy that you received this message. But if you're just going to blame another random person you have never even interacted with or who didn't even knew you existed based on "someone told me it's you" "someone outed me out" then you are not better than the troll. You did so knowing that it may lead to people sending me hate message because of this. At least you could've tagged me if you are gossiping about me on your tags.

Personally I too can name 10 elriels who I have heard that send death threats anon messages to us so are they going to be trolls as well??

I turned off my anons because of the influx of pro elriels anons I received to my Pro gwynriel posts, the death/rape threats. The same reason most of the gwynriel have turned them off.

If any e/riel thinks I am the troll then they can simply block me. Remove me from your feeds. Do me a favor. And you may or may not block me but I will be because I choose to remove all negatives out of my life.

This is just juvenile and stupid. People really need to touch grass and understand which anons are trolls and not give them attention or help stir shit up.

Sarah does use "a thread" for feysands mating bond in the end of acotar.

It was where Rhys tugged on the bond to make Feyre come to him before he went back to the night court.

And amethyst is a mixture of pink and blue!

did you know that in a lot of important scenes between elain and azriel, she is wearing blue?

one of the two flowers that were drawn on elain’s drawer (according to the description of acotar) were violets painted in blue

the first time they met in acomaf she was wearing cobalt blue

in acomaf, one of the scenes with the queens, azriel and cassian are each guarding the window where elain and nesta are standing. elain’s dress is pale pink and blue (their colors, i love it sm)

remember that a scene in acowar where everyone thought elain was going crazy because of the stuff she was saying and azriel was the only one to actually listen to her, which later led to him being the one to find out she was a seer? elain had a blue shawl around her body

in acowar, when azriel is the first to point out about elain and both he and nesta rush to the cabin, the cloak he touches to see if it’s still warm is blue

in the truth-teller scene, elain was wearing blue because it was winter court fashion and she felt more comfortable in it

in the solstice scene in acofas elain is wearing an amethyst gown (not exactly blue but close enough)

in acosf she was wearing amethyst again for the solstice, the scene where azriel hears her laugh and is drawn to it

this one is not about blue but it’s still elriel connected! one of elain’s main color is pink and the necklace azriel got her shone pink when put against light (what elain represents in the series)

also i can do a whole fucking post about feyre’s weird prophetic guesses, but i need to point out the pairing of elain sitting amongst blue and pink hydrangeas..... pink and blue...... blue hydrangeas symbolize understanding and gratitude....... pink hydrangeas symbolize romance and true feelings and sincere emotions......

one of the things i'm most excited about seeing in Elain's story is her visions. like what exactly can she see? and when can she see? does the past reveal itself to her or is it only the future? does she catch glimpses of fate through dreams? or visions that come on suddenly? does she scry? use the old stones and bones, or a map, or another tool like she did when she tracked the Suriel? maybe it's even a little bit of everything.

SJM literally called her a walking spoiler.

i can't wait to see how these visions are written too. magic like this has the potential for such rich imagery and I'm just really excited to see how Sarah handles them both in the narrative and from a technical, stylistic standpoint.

idk there's just something so mysterious and intriguing about a seer character potentially shrouded in prophecy. i need it biblically.

the funniest part of fey/sand being a hades and persephone retelling is that a) the demeter equivalent is a boy and b) despite that sjm still managed to paint him as the unreasonable shackle holding the persephone equivalent back from her true love, the same way so many other modern retellings do

Okay, so when I first started talking to my friend, I asked him what he dislikes the most, and he said people who talk a lot (actually, he doesn’t like people in general). And let me tell you—I TALK A LOT. But then I noticed that he always lets me talk for hours, and he actually listens. So, I jokingly brought it up, saying he must get bored of my rambling. i'd like to take a brief interlude from my depressive spiral to present a small excerpt from the slutty elriel fic i'm working on, still hoping to get this out this week but taylor swift put a pin in my plans and i've been wallowing in bed for like 96 straight hours.

no warnings here bc im saving the actual slutty content for the full published piece.

Elain blindly wandered down the dark hallways.The echo of her heels on the stone floor was menacing, causing the already frantic beat of her heart to rise to an almost worrisome crescendo. It didn’t help that she could barely see and was relying solely on the occasional flickering fae light and the cool, insistent shadow pressed to the small of her back to guide her towards her mystery destination.

It felt like she’d been walking for hours, turning this way and that in the labyrinth that made up the various chambers of this unfamiliar place but finally, the pressure of the shadow on her back eased as she approached an arched door right at the end of the seemingly never ending hallway. She paused in front of it, unsure what to do until the shadow slid up her arm and along her neck, wrapping itself around her ear. 

Go.

Elain swallowed, her gloved hand reaching out for the doorknob. 

Subconsciously, she knew where that shadow had been guiding her. Knew that the neat, dark interior of this room was the perfect match for what she’d always imagined in those salacious dreams of hers.

She’d been ready to see him. Aching to see him. But to open the door and get her first glimpse of him… she hadn’t quite been ready for that. 

Azriel was reclined in a leather chair behind his desk. The jacket he'd been wearing earlier had been discarded and left to drape on cabinet at the far end of the room. The first few buttons of his crisp white shirt was undone, providing a glimpse of the tantalising tattoos hidden underneath. He had one long leg folded over the over, one ankle resting on his knee. And on that knee, cradled by his large, scarred hand, sat a short glass of amber liquid that perfectly matched his honeyed eyes.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

thinking deeply about Azriel's bonus chapter in ACOSF and Rhysand's brutal behaviour in it:

it honestly feels out of character for Rhys. ever since the beginning he's always been about choice. and in that moment in the hallway with Azriel, Elain is making a choice. why would Rhys deny her the right of that choice? it really seems uncharacteristically cruel to take that choice away from her and force Lucien upon her. to be clear, i really like Lucien and would love to watch a dynamic unfold between them, other than "he wants her - she ignores him." it doesn't sit right with me

why does Rhys think he knows better than Elain about what she wants. can't wrap my mind around it

I thank god every day I'm not involved in the acotar ship wars. i was imbued with the sense to not get emotionally invested in underdeveloped characters.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled we're finally getting an announcement next year, but I'm exhausted!! I left the fandom because I couldn't stand the ship war and SJM's silence. I still love Azriel and Elain and I am invested in their story, but I stopped enjoying the Acotar world if that makes sense. I don't know if other people in the fandom feel the same way, but I'm close to the point where my reaction to book 5 will be "Oh yeah, I used to love those books", even if it's confirmed to be about Azriel and Elain.

In a completely different case, we never see Rebecca Yarros say "I won't tell you who Violet's endgame is. You'll have to wait and see!!"

I don't know if people will be so burned out when the book finally comes out that they won't care anymore. I don't know if SJM's strategy will backfire. Time will tell.

I think the fact Sjm has been so silent - its the most frustrating part. I don’t blame her but I think there was so much things going on and I feel like - this whole thing was planned. it wasn’t a matter of delays or whatever.

We needed to read HOFAS to understand the lore for ACOTAR 5. Obviously, hofas had to come after hosab - through this order, the years went by. Mass isn’t online therefore I don’t think she knows the full extent of the shipwars. To her, that bonus created some *doubt/drama* the way Emerie appearing in Cassians chapter during acofas did. Im very curious to hear her thoughts on all this once acotar 5 is out, anyways, I think at one point - maybe within the last 2 years - BB and Sarah realised it will be more impactful and a big deal to announce info about acotar 5 during the acotar 10 year anniversary.

obviously I cant speak for everyone else in the fandom but from my mutuals across all platforms and from my followers on Instagram- the general vibe is that we’re all so done with this fandom, sarah and the books. The ACOTAR world has lost its magic - people have taken the books so seriously and critically. Every character and ship is hated on, the fandom vibe is filled with disgusting toxicity and not just from the shipwars but the character wars as well. Its not the same vibe as it was when I first read the series in 2020. Hopefully, after elains book is calms down and we’re all reunited again.

I think by the time the book releases, the online fandom will be burnt out and not care as much but the casual fandom will be very excited for the release. And ig it doesn’t matter as Sjm will always be popular and her books will always sky rocket. Didn’t she recently win some goodreads awar despite hofas not being that good? So all in all, those of us that have been in the fandom a long time won’t be as excited as we would’ve been 2-3 years ago.

I haven’t read Fourth Wing but I’ve heard Rebecca is very active in the fandom which makes peope in her fandom love and respect the books more. Thinking of it - its the trend now for authors to engage consistently with their readers. Its a way to build a good relationship between audience and author but also to promote their books. Maybe Mass and BB feel like Sjm is big enough and doesn’t need to form that connection w us as they know we will eat up whatever she releases. And atp I think they’re right. I don’t think her “strategy” will backfire as her audience is no longer young teens - they’re adults that love her worlds as they connected with them young and will read whatever she puts out.

but you’re right, time will tell and hopefully that time comes soon.
