European bison released in England’s ancient woodland have doubled in number since 2022, and the woodland has gotten healthier since, reviving previously extinct beetle species and increasing sightings of dormice and reptiles. And England isn’t the only European nation getting bison back in business: In the 1920s, there were just 54 European bison after intense hunting over millennia, but thanks to re-wilding efforts there are now around 10,000, mostly in Russia and Belarus. One ironic thing I noticed actually, while giffing The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did:

Remember how Quill questions the Governors keeping Ballon prisoner?

QUILL: The Governors keep alien prisoners? Does UNIT know about this?

Well, Quill, turns out they might not object to it as much as you think!

If there was ever anything that better showed the decline in the "science leads" mission of Kate's UNIT.

In her / UNIT's defence, the Shreek is clearly something more animalistic than a sentient prisoner like Ballon, so keeping it alive and secure could debatably be seen as a mercy considering how a dangerous animal might be treated in real life, but still... that is a lot of cells to contain nothing but alien wildlife...

The Titanic Engineers' Memorial is a memorial in East (Andrews) Park, Southampton, United Kingdom, to the engineers who died in the Titanic disaster on April 15, 1912.

The bronze and granite memorial was originally unveiled by Sir Archibald Denny, president of the Institute of Marine Engineers on April 22, 1914. The event was attended by an estimated 100,000 Southampton residents.

Full nerdy explanation under the cut for anyone who is curious.

Baud: unit of measurement of symbol rate. This is, how many symbols are transmitted per second in a communication system.

Symbol: a word composed by a given number of bits. Remember bytes? Those are symbols of 8 bits, however symbols can have any lenght.

128-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation: a type of digital modulation process capable to use 128 wave shapes to represent data. 128-QAM uses symbols of 7 bits length.

Bit Error Rate: number of wrong bits in a symbol reconstructed by the receiver device.

A lot of feelings (1000 Bauds) within a few words but with deep meanings (128-QAM) and because Fenton knows Gyro so well there's no place for misunderstandings (BER close to 0). Get it? Please tell me you do 😭
