Even More Writing Notes for your Sex Scenes
Masturbation - (or sexual self-pleasure) the practice of stimulating your own genitals and erogenous zones by hand or with the assistance of sex toys, like a vibrator.
It can be about more than just achieving a quick orgasm or ejaculation.
Engaging in mindful masturbation at least once a week is a great way to relax, release some endorphins, and practice self-love and self-pleasure.
You can masturbate alone or with a partner for mutual masturbation.
Benefits of Masturbation
Masturbation is an integral part of mental health and wellness. Taking time for masturbation, even if you have a consistent sex partner, is generally understood to be a matter of self-care. Here are a few benefits of masturbation:
Better moods: Just like when you exercise, the body releases endorphins during sexual activity. When you masturbate, the body generates pleasure hormones: Dopamine, that feel-good buzz you feel when satisfying a craving, and oxytocin, the “love” hormone that results from bonding activities like cuddling or having sex. These neurotransmitters work together to reduce cortisol, the stress hormone.
Deeper sense of self and self-love: “Mindful masturbation” uses masturbation as a method to explore the sexual response to varied stimulation, like erogenous zones and personal fantasies. Getting to know and love your own body this way boosts your self-esteem and teaches you how to advocate for yourself and your needs during sex with a partner.
Improves sleep quality: The sexual pleasure derived from masturbation can also produce a pair of hormones intended to help deepen sleep: Serotonin, which stabilizes our moods and regulates sleep, and prolactin, the hormone that makes us feel sleepy after orgasming. Sexual pleasure has also been shown to increase estrogen levels in women, leading to deeper REM cycles.
Releases sexual tension: Stress, low self-esteem, and conditions like erectile dysfunction can lead to negative feelings of sexual tension and anxiety. Masturbation can feel like a low-stakes avenue to sexual pleasure and help release some of this anxiety.
Mutual Masturbation - a sexual activity that involves self-stimulating using your hands or sex toys, along with one or more partners.
If you’ve never tried mutual masturbation, there are a few reasons to incorporate it into your sex life.
To increase intimacy: Masturbating in front of someone else may feel extremely vulnerable, so it can serve as a way to build trust and intimacy into your sex life.
To learn about your partner: It can be hard to describe exactly what kinds of sensations, pressure, and rhythm lead to pleasure for you. Showing your partner how you masturbate is the perfect way to teach them how you like to be stimulated.
To break the taboo: There can be shame and secrecy surrounding masturbation. Sharing masturbation with a partner you trust can help you feel more comfortable with both your partner and yourself.
To practice safer sex: Sexually transmitted infections can spread via bodily fluids (such as semen and vaginal fluids) during oral sex, anal penetration, or vaginal penetration. With mutual masturbation, there’s virtually no risk of passing STIs to your partner.
Tips for Better Mutual Masturbation
If you’re new to mutual masturbation, considering the following tips and techniques.
Set the scene. Light some candles, play some soft music, and make sure you have plenty of lube accessible. If you plan to use sex toys, erotica, or porn, keep those on hand as well. Setting the mood in a way that makes you and your partner feel relaxed will help banish any nervousness.
Try different positions. Like other sex acts, mutual masturbation is highly adaptable. You can lie on your sides facing each other, or you can stand, sit, kneel—whatever makes you feel sexy. If other types of sexual stimulation are in the mix, stay close enough to your partner to stimulate their other erogenous zones, such as lips, breasts, ears, or nipples.
Masturbate as foreplay or as a finisher. Showing your partner what you can do on your own can serve as foreplay, leading to arousal and other types of sex. Mutual masturbation can also be a low-pressure way to reach orgasm together—or relax after more physically demanding positions. You can also use mutual masturbation as a way of taking a break if you or your partner feels overstimulated.
Take it slow. If you masturbate quickly when you’re on your own, try masturbating in slow-motion with your partner. Take time to enjoy the process, and experiment with new techniques in the comfortable, intimate atmosphere you create with your partner.
Vibrator - a vibrating tool used for external and internal sexual stimulation, whether by penetration or application to various erogenous zones.
You can use a vibrator for personal use, mutual masturbation, or stimulation of your partner’s body during foreplay or intercourse.
There are many different kinds of vibrators in various shapes and sizes for clitoral and anal stimulation, and vaginal or anal penetration.
Vibrators can be rechargeable or battery-operated and are sometimes water-resistant for use in baths or showers.
Types of Vibrators
Vibrators fall under 5 broad categories based on the type of stimulation they deliver:
Anal vibrators: Anal vibrators are designed for anal play and come in various shapes, sizes, and functionality. Tear-drop shaped anal plugs emit a range of vibrations for anal stimulation and work best when used with lube to avoid friction. Some anal vibrators stimulate the perineum (the area between the testicles and the anus), while others use vibrational waves for prostate stimulation.
Artificial vaginas: Artificial vaginas resemble the female sex organ and feature an inner sleeve with a firm grip that penis owners can use for stroking. These toys are made from soft material and sometimes have heating capabilities.
Clitoral stimulators: Bullet vibrators, wand vibrators, and air-pulse clitoral stimulators are designed for clitoral stimulation. Bullet vibrators have a bullet shape and emit waves of vibrations that you can also use for nipple and anal stimulation. Wand vibrators are typically phallic-shaped with a large motor on one end that emits powerful vibrations that can be intense for beginners. Air-pulse clitoral stimulators are available in various sizes and feature a suction effect that emits air pulses that mimic oral sex when applied to the clitoris.
G-spot vibrators: There are levels to internal stimulation: If your preferences lean more towards the G-area, or G-spot—an area two to three inches inside the vaginal canal that, when stimulated, can lead to pleasure and sometimes orgasm—then a G-spot vibrator might be for you. These longer vibrators work best for those who enjoy deep penetration, targeting either the harder-to-reach C-spot (cervix) or A-spot (anterior fornix).
Penis stimulators: Vibrators aren’t just for vulva owners: Cock rings are available in vibrating and non-vibrating options and work by constricting blood flow at the base of the penis during penetrations, with or without other buzzy sensations. Stretchy, silicone-based cock rings are designed for easy removal.
Rabbit vibrators: For those who enjoy simultaneous penetration and external stimulation, the rabbit vibrator is the most versatile of the vibrator offerings. This popular vibrator features a vibrating dildo and a clitoral stimulator for simultaneous internal and external stimulation. You can also use one function at a time for a targeted sexual experience.
How to Choose a Vibrator
Whether choosing your first vibrator or looking for a new toy to shake up your sex life, here are a few factors to keep in mind:
Consider the type of stimulation. Learning what brings you sexual pleasure isn’t just good for your overall sexual health; it can also help inform the kind of vibrator you might enjoy. Pinpoint the precise sensations you want to amplify and research which vibrators fit the bill. If you prefer clitoral stimulation, consider a toy that focuses on this area, like a bullet or wand. For g-spot pleasure, try a g-spot vibrator specifically designed to stimulate the area.
Look for non-porous materials. Avoid porous materials like jelly-based latex or rubber, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), thermoplastic rubber (TPR), or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), which can trap and harbor bacteria, even after cleaning. Look for silicone, stainless steel, or ABS plastic-based vibrators: They’re safe, easy-to-clean, and come in hybrid options, like silicone-stainless models that offer a different sensation than soft, malleable silicone ones.
Think about setting and style. Look for a vibrator that complements your sex life, not complicates it. If you typically masturbate in the shower, look for water-proof vibrators. If you’re new to sex toys and want to start slow, try a palm-sized vibrator and work your way up to the more complex toys like rabbits.
How to Use a Vibrator
Whether exploring your own body through masturbation or engaging in foreplay with a partner, vibrators are a great way to experiment or enhance sexual pleasure.
Test the vibrator before using it. Many vibrators have different settings and vibration patterns from which to choose, and it can be challenging to navigate those options in the moment. There are many online instructional videos, and most vibrators come with directions and care instructions. Test out the vibrator’s different functions and intensity levels on your forearm to build familiarity and comfort before trying it out on yourself or your partner.
Foreplay is important. If it’s your first time with a new toy, you may need to get in the mood before using it. Read erotica, watch porn, or tease your more sensitive areas or erogenous zones—think inner thighs or lower stomach—to amp up the anticipation and set the ground for your session.
Use lube. Some lubricants are specifically designed for use with toys like vibrators, making it easier for penetration. Using lube can significantly improve the sensations and overall experience of a vibrator with more easy gliding and less uncomfortable friction. Water-based lube is typically the best choice for sex toys because oil-based lubes can erode latex toys.
Start slow. Using a vibrator is all about nuance. Starting slow allows you to determine the level of stimulation you prefer and how to deepen your experience of that stimulation. For example, if external stimulation is your focus, holding the vibrator against the labia, rather than directly contacting the clitoris, may work best for you. Dial the intensity up or down depending on your sensitivity level, and try applying pressure in different positions.

Hello! I intend to write a main character who is a wheelchair user due to an accident that was fatal to others but not them. I have a problem with deducting the limitations of the disability. Theyre an artist but after the injury they lost some mobility with their hands and since theyre a main character i will give them a romantic interest but im not sure how to make the genitelia function. The hands being limited mobility is important but also their ability to have sex is too. Is this possible or if someone has partial feeling in their hands the genitelia also has problems or can it function fully, would there be other problems regarding sex? How long would the physical therapy period be after the injury? Would they be able to use a regular computer mouse easily or would they need another device? They dont live in an accessible state so what type of chair would they use? Can they transfer from their chair by themselves perhaps? Would they experience chronic pain anywhere in their body or would there be no feeling at all? I want to write the character right so i would appreciate it very much if you answered my ask, thank you
Hey!
It depends on what the accident actually did. I'm gonna assume quadriplegia since that's what it sounds like, but I could be wrong. Since we don't currently have quadriplegic mods I'll just answer for the technical parts but if this is an important character to the story I recommend you get a sensitivity reader if you want to get it right and not just "not medically incorrectly".
Is this possible or if someone has partial feeling in their hands the genitelia also has problems or can it function fully, would there be other problems regarding sex?
Generally speaking, most quadriplegics will have their genitals affected fully or partially depending on the completeness of their injury. However, working 100% as before the injury would be rare.
The one problem that affects all quadriplegics (and some paraplegics) is autonomic dysreflexia, which is essentially a sudden medical emergency caused by a blood pressure rise from too much stimulation. Genital stimulation could potentially cause this and your character would be aware of if they have any knowledge on their condition. Another problem that will affect the extreme majority will be absent/significantly decreased sensation. That doesn't mean that they can't have sex, but they might not feel anything at all there or not feel enough for the entire thing to be pleasurable. For more specific problems, you'd have to consider what set of genitals your character has. People with penises are more likely to cause issues that complicate things a lot (complete erectile dysfunction, inability to ejaculate), than people with a vulva (inability to lubricate). The one exception would be if they have vaginal spasms, which might make penetrative sex physically impossible and/or very painful. Again, this doesn't mean the inability to have sex in general, just requires some changes. Changing focus from genitals to other erogenous zones etc.
You can read about it more here and here. This is also useful but long and uses medical language. Just be aware that it doesn't really factor in trans people and potential differences people on HRT may have.
How long would the physical therapy period be after the injury?
This depends on a lot of things. Depending on what you consider physical therapy, they might do PT indefinitely. SCI is a permanent injury and if it's complete, PT is good to keep it from getting worse (e.g. preventing muscles from contracting), and if it's incomplete then it can also be about potentially restoring more function (how some paralyzed people are eventually able to walk again, it's not a miracle, it's PT). PT can be the in-patient kind that they would probably spend a few months in, out-patient which could be months to a few years, and simple at-home exercises that they could probably do indefinitely (as mentioned), for example passive range of motion exercises.
If the character has specific goals, they will probably go to therapy longer for that specifically. It could be PT, but it could also be occupational therapy. You can read more here or here.
Would they be able to use a regular computer mouse easily or would they need another device?
They probably could. (I recommend this guy's channel for other similar questions like this, he explains them very well).
They dont live in an accessible state so what type of chair would they use?
The type of chair would depend more on their actual needs than the accessibility of the environment. However if you want to specifically factor that in, a light-weight wheelchair would be better so it can be physically moved up the stairs, transported by car, etc.
Can they transfer from their chair by themselves perhaps?
At the start almost definitely no, after some rehab, maybe. If you have your character's level of injury figure out you can search (e.g.) "c6 sci transfer" and see how various people do it. Some can do it by themselves, others need a sliding board, and many can't do it at all. It also depends on factors like weight and age.
Would they experience chronic pain anywhere in their body or would there be no feeling at all?
They would definitely experience at least some chronic pain. It'd be very unusual if they didn't (without being strongly medicated). They'd almost definitely have back pain at the very least.
These two are also not exclusive - you can absolutely have pain in areas without actual sensation (I do). It's because of nerve damage and the nerves firing off incorrectly, so a light touch could be unperceivable, but cause shock-like pain.
I know this wasn't one of the questions, but they could still be an artist as a quadriplegic. They could potentially paint with their mouth or tape a brush to their hand in order to draw.
Hope this helps,
mod Sasza

For the blorbo ask: Let's go with Resh'an and ohhh, give me your thoughts on Sephiroth. As for which questions: 1, 6, 7, 13, 14, and 24.
1. who’s the Blorbo that you’ve never posted about on your blog?
I'm trying to think if there's any secret deep lore blorbo to unlock here, but I do periodically froth at the mouth about the Imperial Radch and Locked Tomb characters that I love. There's the Active Blorbo Roster and then there's all the characters sittin' on the bench in reserve, right?
And there are a lot of those- all the part 5 JJBA kids, Shanks from One Piece, Hakkai from Saiyuki, Mustadio FFTactics.
6. if you could talk to your Blorbo, what would you say to them?
I used to do a lot of 'interview the character' writing exercises when I was younger, but it's not really something that jives with my brain these days. So the boring answer is, I wouldn't say anything. I'm a bad conversationalist.
The *funny* answer- okay, so you remember the era of geocities websites with goofy "under construction" gifs and entire pages dedicated to script-style interactions between the site owner and their favorite characters, right. I had one of those. It was where I posted my multichaptered mary sue self insert oc/Sephiroth fanfic. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called- no, wait, fuck, the title was "To Shed a Tear" holy shit I wish I hadn't remembered that-the oc was Rufus' sister and a member of the Turks, and look, it was 1998, I had to teach myself html somehow-
Uh. Anyway. So, ultimately, I would probably be apologizing to Sephiroth for all of that, and then maybe just asking for a swift death or something, idk.
I'd have nothing to say to Resh'an because in the ARG he's explicitly stated that he doesn't want to talk about his personal life with the rest of us, and I would attempt tobrespect that boundary. (Really, most of what I might say would probably get me banned from the Sabotage discord.) (I'd probably have to apologize to him for all the fanfic, too. *cough*)
7. what’s the one thing the fandom gets wrong about your Blorbo?
Sephiroth was not involved in some kind of well adjusted five person SOLDIER polycule pileup before the Nibelheim incident. That man has never looked at another human being and experienced a sexual thought in his *life*.
(This does not prevent him from walking Zack on a leash when the occasion calls for it, but like. That's just being a responsible friend. Sometimes Angeal is busy.)
I'm open to a lot of different interpretations of Resh'an right now- the fandom is so small, I'll take whatever I can get and be happy about it, honestly. I'm sure there are people who think *I'm* the one getting him wrong, though, and on some level this idea pleases me in the blackened, contrarian corners of my soul. Sorry, I've taken your mysterious mentor character with a tragic past and turned him into a sopping wet rag with erectile dysfunction. (I'm not that sorry.) (technically it's not ED it's anorgasmia *is shot*)
13. is there any crime, any wrongdoing your Blorbo could commit that would make you stop loving them and remove them from your hyperfixation entirely?
me, sitting on the front porch, sipping a shitty cocktail while watching Meteor about to obliterate the solar system: ...nah.
This kind of gets into like...Doylist/Watsonian characterization, right? The character is just going to do what they're written to do. So is there anything Square Enix could do to make Sephiroth stop being my blorbo? I guess they already did Crisis Core so like...It really doesn't get much worse than that. (I say this, but I haven't finished Rebirth! I am only vaguely aware of the major plot divergence stuff.)
All that said...Squeenix can't take the OG away from me. I'm stuck with the general background radiation of the Compilation, but the things that made me love the game, and the experience of playing it as a child, are always going to be mine. My particular take on Sephiroth exists largely independent of canon and the current fandom at this point.
For Resh'an- let him war criminal even harder! XD
Really, though, I'm steeling myself for inevitable disappointment around his canon backstory and the ultimate resolution of the story. This is not meant to be any shade on Thierry Boulanger's storytelling skills- but being part of the fandom for an ongoing story is always a unique experience, and it tends to leave you with complicated feelings towards the actual conclusion of the story, no matter how good it ends up being.
But if he and Aephorul turn out to be stereotypical anime rivals pre-immortality, I will be *extremely* annoyed (I say, as I write them constantly bickering and antagonizing each other). But I don't think that would even be a deal breaker for me at this point.
14. have you ever distanced yourself from your Blorbo / have you ever left a fandom because people in the fandom were being too toxic?
Maybe back when I was more active in fandom in general? My memory is too fucky to answer this properly, I think; I know there absolutely were people in AC fandom who made me want to eat paint, but I don't think they were why I left. Most of the time when I leave a fandom, it's because I get bored or lose interest or fall into a depression hole for half a decade. (The depression hole is what makes this hard to answer. From 2018-2023 I wasn't on tumblr or fannish twitter and I wasn't really reading fanfic or "doing fandom" at all.)
I've left/avoided certain fandoms because of non-fandom interpersonal blow ups with specific people- I've had several friend groups explode messily over the years, and avoiding some of those people meant avoiding fandoms we used to share. (FFVII was briefly, tangentially one of those for me back in 2009.)
Now, I'm more likely to distance myself from a fandom if I find it annoying, honestly. I spent like ten minutes in the In Stars and Time tag and very quickly determined that it was Not For Me, and that's totally fine! It's a perfectly lively fandom, it's just not my thing. Same with Baldur's Gate and Arcane (and to a lesser extent TLT); I just get the curated content from my lovely mutuals, and if there's anything else going on, I pretend I do not see it.
24 if you could change one canonical thing about your Blorbo, what would it be?
Lemme just- *slam dunks Genesis Rhapsodos into the trash* And look! Nothing of value was lost. Nothing changes in the story that needed to be changed. The tragedy still unfolds, and it's 50% less idiotic! Angeal can stay. He's fine.
Maybe they've fixed the idiocy in Rebirth. I doubt it, though. Sephiroth's appeal initially comes partly from him being a bit of a blank slate- the players get a very limited window into who he is and what his whole deal is, and that vast *potential* is where some of the best (most unhinged) fanworks develop. The OG is very deliberate about how it treats Sephiroth as a villain- he's literally the shark from Jaws, hovering under the narrative. Twenty five years later he's one of the most recognizable video game villains in the world, so I understand *why* Remake went a different direction. But it's still a little disappointing. Sometimes leaving things vague and mysterious is good, actually!
Anyway, other than setting Genesis on fire- I don't know. Put him in one of those slutty turtlenecks with the boob window. It's what we deserve. (The serious answer- sort of- make him 2000% more body horror about the Jenova cells. Give him tentacles to go with the fucking angel wings.)
As for Resh'an- we've got three more games to go. He's sitting firmly in that sweet spot of unhinged potential; we don't know enough about his backstory yet for me to want it changed. So, really, the only change I'd make at this juncture would probably be to give the Great Eagle more tail feathers. It just *bothers* me, okay. Why are there only three.

i heard that guys that drink a lot of alcohol, smoke cigarettes, have a bad diet, don’t exercise much, and consume too much porn typically have a harder time getting off, both in terms of blood flow being decreased and constant overstimulation/desensitization from too much porn
SO I PROPOSE ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION OSOMATSU PLEASE WHOS WITH ME …..
if i can write/hc choro as a premature ejaculator i think osomatsu deserves just as much love for having ED and either not being able to keep it up or taking forever to cum
