had a very sleepless night last night due to hurricane helene (only a tropical storm when it reached us, thankfully) so of course what else was my brain to do but wander into semi-nonsense territory.
or: zuko dies when his ship blows up, but La takes mercy on him. local firebender wakes up as a merman. what the fuck.
everyone thinks he's dead. he can't leave the water because he has a whole entire fish tail where his legs used to be. he has no idea what to do with himself because suddenly his only goal in life has been taken away from him. he's stubborn as hell, but even he has to admit that he can't... really capture the Avatar in this state, and it's even more unlikely that if he somehow managed, his father would restore his honor. when he's half fish. what the fuck.
zuko cuts his hair, salvages his belongings from his ship and hides them in this underwater cave he found. spends a lot of time hanging out underneath docks and lapping up gossip. trying to figure out how this whole merman thing works. follows gossip and rumors about the Avatar anyways, because what else is he supposed to do with himself?
ends up in the north pole. he's still a firebender, which feels like a dumb joke but at least it keeps him warm. ends up befriending princess yue (iroh joined the avatar and saved the moon spirit). learns his sister was defeated at ba sing se. learned his father was defeated during the eclipse. his uncle became fire lord.
becomes a cryptid. keeps accidentally befriending small children. saves a few people? people think he's some kind of ocean spirit. he's offended but maybe they're right. gets used to subsisting on a diet of raw fish (except when yue sneaks him some smoked fish). and then, to add insult to injury...
...the Avatar starts looking for him.
(Aang has heard stories about a humanoid ocean spirit. They seem friendly! They've even saved a few sailors. Trying to track them down seems like a great way to not have to think about Ozai's impending execution. He spared his life, but it didn't even matter in the end.)

Best Benders?
Um okay um. Saying it, no order because I can't make up my mind in terms of raw power or skill.
Airbenders: Aang, Yangchen, Kelsang, Gyatso, Tenzin and probably Jinora due to spirituality. Honorary mention to Zaheer (I still don't think he could have beat any of those in a fair fight except 11yo Jinora) and maybe Kai for being the best of the new Air Nation. Maybe Korra too, EoS Korra was a pretty good Airbender and among the best in LoK, but nowhere near the level of Kelsang is what I mean.
Earthbenders: Toph, King Bumi, Yun, Kyoshi and Jianzhu. Honorary mentions to Ghazan and Bolin because lavabending is cool and for Su, Lin and Kuvira who are great too (I still don't think they could beat any of the others I mentioned though).
Waterbenders: Noatak/Amon, Yakone, Pakku, Tarrlok, Katara, Korra, Kuruk, Unalaq, Ming-Hua-- btw can anyone explain why the waterbenders in LoK were all so fucking OP. Honorary mentions to people like Tonraq who are pretty good. Oh and Yue, I guess-- with the whole moon spirit thing.
Firebenders: Ran and Shaw. Okay, now seriously. Ozai, Iroh, Sozin, Jeong Jeong, Azula and probably Hei-Ran and potentially Adult Zuko. If we speak about potential, Azula is probably the strongest Firebender in the franchise, but she was 14 years old and I don't think she could have beat someone like Ozai or Iroh —much older and more experienced— even being a prodigy. Honorary mentions to Combustion Man and P'li (because boom, but tbh we didn't see that much of their bending skills), Show Zuko, Rangi, Mako and Korra because tbh they were all very good, too. Xu Ping An too, I guess. Zhao has good raw power too but that guy sucked at everything else.

Agree about everything being said regarding bashing and shipping.
I don’t care what people ship but when your whole ship only functions through you bashing another character or saying how much better your ship is over the other instead of just liking your ship it just idk says a lot.
Maybe I’m just odd but I’ve never defended a ship by trashing another or trashing a character (except when i was 13 and bashing Ginny Weasley she did not deserve that 😭🤣)
Like back when I actively shipped zutara I never based aang or compared it to kataang or had long ass meta discussions about it to make myself feel better. I just shipped it, my posts were just about zutara and zutara only.
It’s weird that nowadays zutarians spend a lot of time bashing aang and comparing and coming up with ways zutara is so much better,
for reference I don’t ship anything much in atla anymore aside the weird ship so maybe that’s why I don’t get the bashing cause well Azula/Jet and Zuko/Yue, Mai/Aang etc my other weird ships are niche so I guess there’d be no point in comparing or bashing

Stars
Suki sat with her legs dangling from the side of the Western Air Temple, the quiet dark settled contently around her, a peaceful breeze making a slight whistle as it blew through the structure.Ā
The others were farther in the temple, most likely sleeping (except for maybe Zuko; Suki doesn’t think the Fire Prince ever sleeps). Sokka, however, was only a few feet away from her, snoring softy with his mouth slightly open.Ā
It had only been a few hours since they had returned from the Boiling Rock, and the four of them had been exhausted. After Katara had embraced her father, and the group had settled down to discuss what had occurred, Aang had lit them a fire and slowly, they had all drifted off to sleep.Ā
She had gone to look over the amazing view of the Western Air Temple, how even in the dark inky sky, you could see the stars as clear as they were the sun. Sokka had eventually made his way over to her in silence, dragging his bedroll with him, and wordlessly falling asleep next to her.Ā
The moon was nearly full that night, and Suki couldn’t tell if the moon was smiling at her or crying.Ā
ā€œI know that you…in reality, you were his first.ā€ Suki whispers, keeping her head down.Ā
ā€œBut I love him, too. I didn’t know you in life, but if he loved you and wanted to protect you, then you must have been an amazing person.ā€ Suki sighed, looking up at the stars.
ā€œI’m sorry I never got to meet you, Yue.ā€
Suddenly, the wind stopped all at once, the landscape going completely still, the air stagnant and silent.Ā
The stars burned a little brighter, and Suki could almost hear a young princess laughing.Ā

btw scolding hot tea that no one asked for, but imo sokka's romances are the absolutely most male gazy, if the term should be used on any of the main romances in atla (I say that because people use the term, I don't even really like it much).
this is for the live action too, maybe even worse, but it's already there in the cartoon. it's just "women throw themselves at this dude". I don't really see much more development, although both couples are kind of cute I still could use a bit more complex dynamic there on the women's end. why do they like him except that he's a dorky warrior, honestly? It's not that I don't see why someone would like Sokka, I just don't feel why all these women would throw themselves at him without much thought to the extend that they do, especially initially.
objectively, suki and yue get the least independent development and story outside of their relationship to Sokka (though they both have SOME), compared to both Aang and Zuko's canon main girlfriends. Katara and Mai also have relationships with other women and a strong arc of their own (Katara to the point no one can deny she is a fully-realized character regardless of Aang lbr), as well as complex reactions and emotions to their relationship with their boyfriends.
Not saying that's all they are, and I like especially sukka's themes about sokka learning to respect women, but overall they could have told sokka being humbled by a woman incidentally being a superior warrior to himself, without sokka being "rewarded" so to speak with romance through that experience pretty much immediately.

Netflix's ATLA initial thoughts, ep 8: Legends
Honestly love Katara joining Aang in attacking the ships. I still wish he could waterbend too. Oh Sokka is here! Teamwork :')
Awkward CGI ftw. I had to mention it at least once.
Iroh giving Zuko advice makes more sense! That's the kind of thing I wanna see! That said, "Lu Ten woulda been proud" is not as strong as "You are like a son to me." Whack dialogue strike 74.
Bringing in the airship early is...a choice. And oh man Iroh, you will find out what job soon enough.
WHY HAVEN'T WE SEEN AANG WATERBEND
I GUESS WE'LL SEE ALL THESE WOMEN FIGHT INSTEAD I'M NOT CRYING
Sokka and Yuuue sitting in a...on an ice block
Master Katara seemingly as earned in this show as in the OG. Which is extra points against this show lmao you're supposed to improve upon the flaws you stupid remake!
Fucking fire sage traitor ass bitch. I don't mind the sages having this information; makes sense. I also like that the ocean and moon spirits appear rarely instead of BEING mortal. That is the kind of flaw improvement I like to see.
I don't love the super powerful being (Aang) seeing things others don't. It's giving hallucinations for plot purposes, which I hate.
Momo came here to nearly die, I see. I'll allow it. There's a push and pull (heh) between realism and fantasy and they are leaning toward realism. It works if Yue has powers and needs to save someone in an oasis that is not just a 10 by 10 island.
I love seeing the adults act. They're so believable lmao.
Katara Zuko fight! Lmao and Aang telling her to go easy on him. I wish that was earned.
"Yes. You're looking at her." PERIODT! I...wish that was earned.
Zhao wanting firelord is bullshit. Also how do you know which fish is the moon? Must... not... nitpick... final... episode.......
I will say Zhao's actor ate this whole season. He came to the Netflix buffet and had his fill and then some.
Color grading, I kiss you on the mouth.
So many water tribe warriors would have died in the wake of the death of the moon spirit. I'm glad they showed that. It hurts to watch but I didn't sign up for this live action remake to have my hand held.
I finally believe this kid as Aang and it took him about to go kaiju. Maybe because I couldn't see his eyes.
Speaking of kaiju!!! Fuck it up, kings! We BIG mad with the Avatar and ocean spirit!
He's a small man! Who's gonna meet a small end!!!
Okay. I love Azula in this. They made a good choice here. Actually no. They made many good choices here. They brought her forward a season and they made so many compelling choices with her character. Incredible.
Yeah keep throwing fireballs at a water kaiju you dumb fucks.
Sokka and Yuuue... and then just Sokka...
Katara, he can't hear you. Stfu.
I love seeing the aftermath except I don't. Fuck the aftermath. Have I not cried enough?
NOT THE GUY WITH THE DIMPLES
You don't! Have to be a warrior!!! To be a hero!!!!!!
A man needs his rest!!!!!! And a me needs their CRY
Chemistry between the trio in the literal last scene of them lmao.
Azula helping conquer Omashu? Under the shadow of the siege of the north? Brilliant.
NOT AZULA BEING A WEAK SACRIFICE.
Yeah what the FUCK is next, Azula?
G-give...me season 2? Now. I want it now.
More thoughts coming....well I have a lot of work the next few days but this will be front of mind anyway lol

My beautiful son, ATLA fic outline.
Maybe someday, he will encase himself in a cocoon and become a beautiful fic.
The premise? Basically, Zuko and Azula? Dead. Like suppppeeeerrr dead. They don't get better
-Zuko and Azula?? Are ghosts
-Descended from the Firelord, but due to a bloody succession battle, died
-Ozai is NOT the father
-Summons the ghosts to work for him? Binds their spirits
-Do NOT like
-Thtas why Azula’s fire is blue. Shes dead. THats why it doesn't hurt her
-Azula either poisoning or chest wound
-Zuko. Take a guess lolol face hurtie
-The Blue Spirit is Zuko but like. Splitting off a part of himself (before Ozai bound them) so it acts as a separate being, but like, hivemind sorta thing. Thats also why he can resist more
-Ozai eventually finds out about that and kills it? Maybe
-Aang when rescued from Pohai realises its a spirit. Also goes. Hmmm. ur familiar
-The cover story for Azula is Zuko is that they are children of a concubine
-Ursa was sent away when she couldn’t conceive. Hint hint. Ozai is infertile
-Ozai remarries to some noble who like, just runs parties.
-Azula and Zuko heirs
-Hunt Avatar
-Becuase Zuko is ā€˜unsightly’ and with burn marks on face considered weaker firebender he patrols the borders
-He is VERY weird .
-Cause his soul is split he is able to be sorta like a person cause not full Ozai control
-But like. Still uncanny valley
-Azula is just. Inhuman. What Ozai thinks is ā€˜perfect heir’
-Zuko patrols border, hears of Avatar INSTANT control mode
-They are both notorious for single minded focus (control….)
-Zuko catches up to them when they are leaving the South Pole
-Fires at them
-THey run
-Earth Kingdom random port
-ā€AG SCARY FACE GUY IS BACKā€
-ā€Sokka! That’s rude we can’t call him that :(ā€œ
-Sorry Aang let me just have a look through my nice names list for people who ARE TRYING TO KILL US!ā€
-This happens a few times
-ā€How does this guy keep finding us?ā€
-This guy is a spirit and avatar is like, spirit hotspot. Spirit GPS auto defaults to him
-Aangs spiritual energy
-Kyoshi Island
-Sokka: Wow you guys are so good you could beat like everything ever
-Suki: HA I dont even we could defeat the Blue Spirit
-Kyoshi island gets too laser focused on Aang. Kung Fu-ed by Suki
-Omashu King Bumi goes…Zuko? Now thats a weird guy
-Literally like. Out of no where
-Apparently the children of the firelord run cold to the touch…But thats just a rumour tehe xD
-Meet Jet
-Hear of Blue Spirit
-Sokka goes…OKAY WHO IS THIS GUY??
-Later Sokka says that this super awesome sword guy should really help them
-Katara goes Nah we are not chasing legends
-WHy not we already have one? You just want to stay with Jet dontcha??
-Aang fades into memory
-Pohai stronghold goes same except he ~somehow~ deflects the arrow
-Hes a spirit . it goes through him
-Scene where Aang goes bro theres something funky about that guy
-What guy?
-The Blue Spirit.
-HES REAL??
Jeong Jeong and stuff
-Is there any other deserters?
-No…not really. Theres other rebels. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Blue Spirit
-The man is an invaluable source of information.
-He speaks??? (aang)
-Oh Agni no. I doubt anyone has ever heard a word from him
-He throws information packets at us
-Mainly about troop movements but it still counts
-We dont know how he finds us though
-^^Spirit powers?? Tracking their inner flame?
-In the siege of the North Zuko tries to stop Zhao.
-ā€Every life has an inner flame. Even spiritsā€
-The fish lives because Zuko fuels their inner flame
-Misunderstanding. RIP he in the snow (Fish lives)
-Also Zuko Katara one sided fight scene (he hold the inner flame sorta near the oasis)
-Aang and Katara there cause Aang ran off like I FEEL SPIRIT POWERS
-She followed cause duh
-Yue and Sokka left alone in oasis
-Zhao whoops both of them
-’Kills’ fish
-Iroh whips him out of there
-Real gentle with fish
-Seals wound with fire (cauterised) and lowers back into water
-Pray
-Glow from water
-Fish lives Yue goes psycho spirit mode (also glowing)
-Aang arrives because brooo what is the freaky energy
-its yue
-The water mimics the knives
-Going through the soldiers who run or fights chests and then dragging them into the sea
-3 go for Zhao and pull him in all different directions
-After
-Yue. What was that
-I..I don’t know. But..I think the spirits are angry, very angry about something. I was just a release.
-Aang thoughts
-I…we need to…
-Katara goes EARTHBENDING. WE SHOULD DO THAT WHAT DO YOU THINK AANG
-That…Yeah! Yeah, let’s go do that
-have supply please
-Alright. Lets hope that we find an Earthbending teacher easier.
END BOOK 1.

Alright, here’s my pitch for a cities of gold x Atla Au:
The avatar cycle has been disrupted for several years because the avatar would die young or stuff like that. They’d die before anyone would learn they were the avatar. So no one knows where we’re at in the cycle. Like is the next avatar a boy or girl? Earth bender or airbender? No one knows. For a long long LOOONG time it seems like there’s no avatar at all. So slowly the whole concept of an avatar just becomes a sort of myth (like the cities of gold ;)). That maybe the avatar existed long ago, but not anymore. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t looking. But I mean. Generally speaking. People would go. Eh he don’t exist , it’s just a fairytale.
Anyway. Long ago. 4 avatars decided to build 4 cities. Each city is based on an element. Each city contains information that will help the avatar master each bending. And of course there’s like magical treasures in each city. As you can see, the role of the Nacaals is replaced with past avatars. And there’s 4 cities instead of 7 cause or else it’s too much.
Now we’re in the time the story is set. Some people, who believe in the avatar and the cities of bending create some scientific association (order of the hourglass) to study the history of the avatar, is it really a myth or did they really exist? The founding members of the order are:
- Ambrosius (fire nation? Not sure yet, non bender)
- Dr laguerra (earth kingdom noble, non bender)
- Athanaos (water tribe? Not sure)
Some things happen bla bla and these 3 guys go through a pretty bad break up
Now we get closer to the current story. So 12 years before our story begins, Athanaos decides to venture to those uhh fire tribes that taught aang and Zuko the dragon dance. Do you remember them?? Idk their name. Anyway. He’s in search for info about the cities just like in the show. Once he’s at the there he falls in love with a priestess (fire bender). Now the people soon find out and are not really happy that a fire priestess is having a baby with a water tribe guy. And so they’re like yeah we’re gonna kill you and the dumb baby (Esteban). But let’s not fear, cause the priestess prays to the sun to protect her child and in doing so idk she gives up herself and turns into the sun (like yue turning into the moon) and therefore Esteban literally becomes the child of the sun, get it. And he’s the avatar of course. Obviously no one knows that yet, he’s just a baby. Athanaos takes baby + sun medallion and escapes. However his little ship gets stuck in a storm and starts sinking. Thankfully, a fire nation ship was passing by and a young sailor (Mendoza) manages to jump in the ocean and save baby Esteban. You know what I’m talking about. Now the plot could go this way OR it could go another way. Instead of the people wanting to kill Esteban’s parents, let’s say that the fire nation attacks šŸ”„them the very moment Esteban is born cause uhhh they wanna kill all the dragons?? But wait let’s say in this world the dragons are actually huge golden condors. All condors die except one that escapes. But then the mother’s sacrifice and the father’s escape with baby Esteban is still the same.
Anyway. Back to Mendoza saving Baby Esteban. He makes the sun come out by bending the clouds or whatever. But they assume he’s like a fire bender? Or something ? But no one realizes he’s the avatar cause uh at this point they still think the avatar is a myth. Mendoza then brings the baby to the fire nation where he’s raised by some uhhhh Atla equivalent of priests and taught basic fire bending. The whole child of the sun thing still happens
Alright now we go 4 years before the story begins. Zia is living her life in water tribe (and she’s water bender). Until one day. Fire nation attacks. They’re looking for zias dad cause he knows info about the cities. Unfortunately they don’t find him, and they kill. Everyone in the village. They find Zia and decide to bring her with them. They give her as a gift to the queen of the earth kingdom cause the fire nation wants to have like, good political relations with earth kingdom ya know. They give gifts and Zia is one of those gifts. So she spends the next 4 years as servant in earth kingdom
Anyway. Now we’re at where the story begins. Fire nations secret intelligence discovers that the current avatar is a young water bender and wears a weird medallion on their neck (maybe they have scientists that calculate plausible avatar cycles idk). The fire nation realizes their mistake: the girl they gave away to the earth kingdom 4 years ago is the avatar (cause water bender + medallion + kid)! Now, the fire nation doesn’t want the earth kingdom to have someone as powerful as the avatar on their side, gift or no gift, so they plan to steal her back and bring her to the fire lord. Gomez and etc are in charge of leading a covert mission to kidnap Zia and bring her back to fire nation, without earth kingdom finding out, cause that would mean war or something. Also it’s secret cause no one knows the avatar exists.
Anyway enter Mendoza (navigator of the fire nation fleet) He finds out about all this mess and manages to get hired to kidnap Zia. From the royal palace. And he succeeds cause duh. Now he remembers how the avatar is supposed to be wearing a medallion. Zia wears that medallion. But then he remembers a kid he saved 12 years ago, who also wore the same medallion…..
In a small fire colony, Mendoza encounters Esteban. They have the same interactions as the show so I’m not gonna repeat all that. He wants Esteban to come along the trip cause he thinks Zia will be easier to manage if she has a friend + he’s curious about the whole medallion business + the thing about the cities. Who cares. Invent your own reasons. Esteban comes along cause he wants to find his dad, who, according to Mendoza, has a link to those mysterious cities
On the ship. Esteban and Zia meet. Bla bla. Same stuff happens. No one, including Esteban, knows that Esteban is the avatar. They think it’s Zia. Zia keeps telling everyone she’s not the avatar, but no one believes her. They think she’s lying to protect herself. Also almost no one knows that Zia is on the ship cause as I said, it’s a very secret mission. Only like. Gomez and Perez and Mendoza know.
(Little parenthesis about Gomez. I’m giving him a bigger role in this show. Also he’s a fire bender cause I think that would be cool. Gaspar is exactly the same as in mcog and is basically Gomez side kick)
Anyway they get into a storm and Mendoza tries to navigate them to safety. But the ship is taking a beating. During the mess, Zia gets in danger and Esteban bends water to save her. That’s when they (Esteban, Zia, Mendoza) realize HE’S the avatar, not Zia ! Which makes sense cause uhhh he’s a kid + water bender + has a medallion = which is what the avatar is supposed to be like.
But it’s too late for anyone to react. Cause then the ship cracks. Mendoza and the kids stick together. Everyone else gets on lifeboat.
Now the exact same things occur. Mendoza and the kids and pedro and sancho crash land on a seemingly uninhabited island. They meet Tao, sole survivor of a civilization who were very close to one of the previous Earth Avatars. He’s got a lot of knowledge about the avatars and the cities, confirming their existence. Also his island is named after one of the previous earth avatars. (The same way Suki comes from Kiyoshi island). So like we could call it Rana’Ori island.
Meanwhile. Gomez has failed his mission. The Fire lord is not happy. To save himself, Gomez puts all the blame on Mendoza. He tells fire lord that really, the whole thing was mendoza’s plan, that he stole the avatar for himself cause he wanted reward all for himself. So Gomez gets a chance. He has to bring back avatar (alive) and Mendoza (dead or alive) cause he’s a traitor now
So now ensues a worldwide manhunt for the avatar and the traitor.
Worldwide? Yes because somehow, the earth kingdom finds out that they had the avatar under their nose this whole time! (Uh oh, sounds like there’s a spy on the loose…) And they never knew! What’s even worse, is that the fire nation had the audacity to sneak in the royal palace and steal someone! Of course the fire nation is trying to make itself look good so they put the blame on Mendoza saying ā€œuhhh we had nothing to do with that, it’s him who decided to kidnap her, we never asked him to do anythingā€. So yeah to avoid political stuff, they just designate Mendoza as the scapegoat unfortunately
Back to our team. Tao tells them about the cities and the avatar. He tells Esteban that he needs to travel the world and find all 4 cities so he can master bending. Esteban agrees, and he mostly wants to go on the trip cause he hopes to retrace his father’s steps (since his father was doing research on the cities) and maybe find him. He doesn’t really want to be the avatar. Zia also wants to come cause she wants to go back home to her dad. Tao wants to come cause 1) tired of being alone in village and 2) he needs to help the avatar fulfill his destiny or something. Mendoza agrees to help the kids. Although he’s more interested in the cities cause ya know gold + treasure + whoever finds the lost cities would go down in history. Obviously he doesn’t tell them his real intentions. Also mendoza’s real goal is to bring the kids back to fire nation and restore his honor cause right now the whole fire nation kinda hates him. Whatever he can have many goals I’m not sure yet
(So they go on adventure like in mcog. They find Solaris. They find condor. And since we’re in Atla, I think the condor should be a real animal they can ride and not a ship (like Appa). And the condor would be Esteban’s spirit guide. As for pichu. He’s just a little guy like Momo)
Everyone’s looking for the avatar cause they realize that if the avatar is going to the cities, they’ll find them if they also look for him. Logically
Now gonna explain just WHY everyone wants the cities so badly. Example. If the fire nation finds the fire city, they could use that knowledge to strengthen their army of benders, and become unstoppable. But it doesn’t stop there. They don’t want the OTHER nations to find their respectives cities, cause they don’t want their enemies to become powerful duh.
Now it gets complicated. I was thinking to adapt all 4 seasons. Hear me out. So I think Isabella could be in this Au. Now I think it would be cool if she were an earth bender + spy for earth kingdom. And she’s supposed to track down the avatar obviously. Also I think she’d be like. Highly respected and come from rich family with ties to the royal family ya know. She’s accompanied by her uncle, Ambrosius (he’s a non bender but he’s still strong cause he has his metal suit). Now I’m not sure about this but I think it would be cool if ZarĆØs were manipulating the earth king or something (I mean he does that in the show a lot)
I think the order of the hourglass could still exist. They’d be searching for the lost knowledge of the past avatars (so basically the 4 cities) just like in mcog. Only here. Ambrosius tries to murder his friends. Athanaos escapes and ends up in fire place where baby Esteban is born. Fernando is manipulated by Ambrosius and basically sent to his death. Idk the details yet. Also, because I want to create drama, once Fernando dies, Ambrosius tells Isabella that it’s Mendoza who killed him. This helps Ambrosius cause 1) now that her dads dead, she’s gonna be more attached to Ambrosius (more willing to work for him no matter what) and 2) if she thinks Mendoza killed her dad, then she’ll stop at nothing until she gets revenge for it, and Ambrosius wants Mendoza to die. So basically whenever a bad thing happens, everyone blames Mendoza for it
Also about Ambrosius’ motivations: essentially, he’s a non bender, but believes that, with technology, he can recreate the natural powers of benders. By using the knowledge from the cities, he might be able to give himself all the powers of the avatar. Hence the metal Zares suit, which would have a flame thrower and uhh water bending and air bending and earth bending you get it. Also by getting close to the avatar he can also learn how bending works
Anyway Isabella tracks down the team but at some point learns that Ambrosius lied to her. This causes her to switch sides and maybe she even teaches Esteban earth bending. Idk if I’d put Mendoza and Isabella romance. Not sure. Idk. Maybe.
As the adventure progresses, the kids learn to trust Mendoza cause he’s so helpful + he saved their lives so much + he stops anyone from trying to kidnap them. Wow what a great guy. But they don’t know his real plan
At some point in the show. Maybe midway or near the end. Mendoza had to make a choice to either hand over the kids to the fire nation (+ be pardoned for all the crimes he apparently did) or go against the fire nation and stick with the kids. Well he decides to betray the kids. Damn plot twist
He arrives back in fire nation as a hero everyone like damn you found the city + the avatar wow you deserve promotion or something. At first it’s great, cause, I mean, Mendoza gets everything he’s ever wanted, right? Yeah maybe. But then, slowly, he starts feeling real guilty about it. So much he can’t take it anymore. So he’s like. Man idc about the fire nation I need to save my kids. He goes to help them but they do not want his help at all!! They’re like man you betrayed us!! We knew you never changed!! And now Mendoza has to try and prove to them that yes, he’s changed and yes, he really wants to help them without getting anything in return
Now for the cities themselves: uh so we’re gonna have one city per season I guess
- water: I think it could be like an ice palace thingy with an ice statue of a previous avatar that they have to melt down etc idk
- Earth: would be made of sand (think wan shi tong’s library) + It also has rana’ori’s tomb so that’s fun
- Air and fire idk
Also the cities still collapse, they only collapse once the avatar has learned everything from the city. Then the city emerges again once the next avatar needs to use it etc
Some Atla plot lines that could be adapted:
- Zia pretends to be the avatar to protect Esteban and she’s brought to the fire nation, only for them to quickly realize that she’s not the avatar at all. They send her to the boiling rock (remember that prison) cause she lied about who she is. I mean technically they’re the ones who were so convinced about her being the avatar šŸ™„ anyway then Esteban and Tao try to break into the boiling rock to save her (like Zuko and Sokka trying to face Suki and hakoda)
- Beach episode
- Ember island players episode
- The library that sinks under the sand episode
Now some small details:
- Taoā€˜s weapon is a crossbow + he also still has his encyclopedia
- Zia has no weapons and instead water bends
- Esteban starts off with his dagger but slowly stops using it cause he learns bending
- Mendoza is an expert swordsman for some reason + navigation skills + just generally being a master manipulator and liar, but he can’t bend anything
- Isabella got her earth bending but also whip + sword + gun
- Ambrosius has his potions + the ZarĆØs suit
- Gomez gets a sword but also fire bending
- Gaspard has a sword and maybe gun
- It ends with everyone teaming up and defeating the fire nation woohoo
- Look idk if Ambrosius ever joins the team or he just watches from the shadows. Maybe he joins once Mendoza leaves? Idk
- Basically if we want to be specific. Esteban is aang. Zia is Katara. Tao is Sokka. Mendoza is like Zuko but backwards in a way. Isabella is like the anti Azula but with the same trajectory as Zuko. Ambrosius is evil Iroh 😭 is Ozai Gomez? Idk anymore
Also based on the countries/continents that they visit in mcog, this is their Atla equivalents:
- the new world: some are water benders (like Zias village) some are fire benders (think the mayans)
- China: mostly earth benders. The shaolin monastery people (tian li) are air benders. Also the people in Tibet are air benders
- Japan: fire nation
- India: probably air benders
- Ormuz: earth benders, more specifically, desert/sand benders
- Africa: depends on the tribe honestly. Some would be fire or earth or water or air idk
- For the European countries I honestly don’t know…. But it’s not really that important though

Okay okay, not to be mean or anything but... The poster makes sense for me ? Please I don't care if you prefer Kataang, Zutara or another third secret option, read this and don't take it bad, I'm just trying to articulate my thoughts and my disagreement, and opening the discussion, which I think this fandom lacks a lot. (Sorry if it sounds mean, it's not my intention, I just have some difficulties not seeming agressive when I'm trying to make a point.)
(And please don't harass me after that and PLEASE don't start a war on which ship is better, now is not the time, I think we should all grow up and discuss with people with different opinions to try to understand them, and maybe, maybe, make peace and stop insulting each other, try to, I don't know, make your ship stuff with your side of the fandom without always having to go harass the other side of the fandom ?)
Aang is the main character, right ? Plus it's a kids show. Ofc he will be almost everywhere, it's the most natural thing for a show, especially for a cartoon. And yes, he's here more than Katara or Sokka even if they're main characters too, because he is THE main character, the avatar, the show has always been made this way and we can't change anything about it.
Moreover, I don't know where you saw Tui and La being Katara and Zuko's symbol, because Zuko has literally no like to Tui and La ?
It's understandable for Katara because she one of the strongest waterbender in the world, she knew the new moon spirit (Yue) and she saw the two spirits.
Zuko, on an other hand, doesn't have as much link. But Aang does. He's the Avatar, and we all remember the s1 final, right ?
And even if it was supposed to be a Aang and Zuko piece first, except if was representing the dragons, it wouldn't have fit, or not as much, and I don't know if it was because I did not go on the history of the poster. But it makes sense to have a more Katara-centric poster. Because we have to remember Zuko became a main good guy way later, but Katara has always been one of the original main characters, so of course we're gonna see more Katara, even if Zuko is a very interesting character.
Can't we just... appreciate a beautiful piece of art without making everything a ship war for a show that aired 20 years ago ? Aren't we too old for this kind of childish actions ?
We have to remember that yes, it's a show very loved for a lot of people since the 2000s, but it's still a kids show ! Kids still discover it today ! Hell, I discovered Avatar something like 5 years ago with my little brother ! Can't we be an example of maturity for the youngest ?
You don't realize how excited I was to enter the avatar fandom for the first time, it was one of my first fandoms ! And you know what was my reaction when I discovered it ?
I was disgusted. Not because I had saw people shipping Zutara when I preferred Aang and Katara, I didn't give a fuck (and still don't, except when somebody is diabolising, reducing or objectifying a character), people can ship whatever non problematic ship they want (I draw the line as incest, pedophilia, explicit toxic relationship and other openly reprehensible things). What disgusted me was seeing +20 yo adults being more immature than me, a 13 to teenage, by insulting themselves because they didn't agree on something as trivial as two characters kissing.
I feel like it derived a lot from the original point and I'm sorry, it seems like I had a lot of thoughts to get out of my mind...
i’m new to tumblr so i’m sorry idk how this works. i’m more active on zk twitter and tiktok. but i know there is an active zutara community so i just wanted to rant.
this was the poster avatar studios made for the 20th anniversary concert, which i really wanted to go see. it’s a gorgeous picture ill admit the artist who did it is really talented and amazing. but why can’t katara be alone? is aang being on this poster necessary? katara is a waterbender so why is he there? he was alone on his poster so why can’t she be alone on hers?
what really makes me sick to my stomach is that they included tui and la. that’s zutara’s thing. kat@@ng doesn’t even fit that narrative. i refuse to let them rewrite history yet again because now kat@@ngs are just going to be even more annoying about it.
Tumblr media
i know it’s not that deep but i saw this and felt like shit especially because it’s beautiful. the artist even wanted to make a zuko aang piece first but bryke or whatever made them change it to kataang i guess.

Anyone else notice how the show is not only reluctant to explore the Water Tribes, but also tends to paint them negatively?
It’s in the way they spent majority of the first book in the Earth Kingdom and spent only three episodes in the North which was their goal the whole season. Or the way Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom have random characters speak to the Gaang along the way whereas only necessary Water Tribe members get lines.
It’s in the way Roku formed close bonds with all his teachers except his waterbending teacher. He was close friends with Gyatso. He describes his earthbending teacher affectionately, even though his character may difficult. Roku beats him but maintains respect by serving him tea.
With his waterbending teacher, there’s nothing there at all. No connection, no story. There’s disrespect at best.
I don’t think growing distaste between nations is an excuse because the show as a whole does this.
None of the boys Katara trained against could have been given lines or some character? None of them could have befriended her or spoken to her? None of the waterbending girls there could speak to Katara?
They had the time to speak to two earthbending boys in Toph’s debut episode. And that could have easily been cut out.
Hahn. I don’t think the show intended for people to hate him as much as the fandom does when he’s remembered.
Hahn said maybe one sexist comment. It’s an arranged marriage, a political one. It’s only done for the ā€œperksā€. You’re not marrying out of love, not that it’s impossible to fall in love. The way Hahn said it does sound majorly disrespectful to Yue, and bringing up other girls also seems in bad taste, but really, he’s an arrogant guy bragging about how he’s got the most profitable marriage that one can have in the North.
Also Sokka has said many more sexist comments than Hahn has. The difference is that he had time to unlearn it and that he wasn’t in a relationship while he was sexist. Remember how he spoke to Suki at first, brushing off her training and armor and weapons as aĀ ā€œdance lessonā€? You can’t convince me he wouldn’t make kitchen jokes or be really unpleasant to watch in a relationship then.
Hahn dies? Or something. We never find out. I find his character funny and wish he was explored more.
Kuruk is the only Avatar besides Roku who’s painted as someone who was lazy in the show. None of the others have a mistake highlighted.
I didn’t watch Korra, but I’ve seen some of the characters and I guess it’s worse there.
The NWT doesn’t join for the Invasion. You’d think Sokka would ask for their help and that waterbenders would be able to get places faster than regular boats. The NWT never shows up again, in fact.
The swamp benders show up, but they’re more country American than anything close to the Water Tribes.
The Northern Water Tribe is the one who gets the sexism card, while the Fire Nation gets to have female soldiers and act like that doesn’t make them sexist. Sokka is glaringly sexist while Zuko and Iroh aren’t. Or at least the show acts like they aren’t.
Aang never learns to heal. For someone who doesn’t eat meat, or claims to never kill, you’d think healing would be important to him.
Katara is the last known Southern waterbender and this is never brought up later. None of her tribe are proud of her, neither Sokka or Hakoda. Her only moment of acknowledging her responsibility of maintaining Southern waterbending is with Hama.
Hama.
Katara stealing the waterbending scroll is not given the weight of it being important to her culture.
Katara barely does anything in the Invasion until the end.Ā
The Gaang goes to many places or has many scenes with one off characters that are either Earth Kingdom or Fire Nation and that aren’t entirely necessary for the plot. It would be easy to switch some scenes out for more Water Tribe.

Unpopular AtLA opinions: main character pairings
All these shipping wars made me think about the pairings with main characters in general. You do not always fall in love with your best friend, right? So, maybe, main characters could be just friends with each other but not more. And love someone else, someone special personally for them. No shipping wars, everyone's happy! (Yeah, like that's gonna happen)
So
With all the respect for the canon pairings and their role in the story, just a thought:
Rare pairings for A:tlA main cast with side characters, that could be canon.
Two girls were canonically interested in Aang: Meng from "The Fortuneteller" and On Ji from "The Headband". I chose On Ji. Aang was kind to her (unlike poor Meng), he invited her to dance and she was ablush. Also, isn't it symbolical to finish the war that started between Fire Nation and Air Nomads with Fire Nation girl and Air Nomad guy falling for each other? I found it sort of interesting.
Katara is a very popular girl. Except Aang and Zuko (no shipping wars!!!) we have such options as Haru and Jet. I wanted comfort, I chose Haru. Jet is great, recently he became very interesting to me, but he is so broken (and very much dead). Haru is mature, good-looking both with and without moustache and beard, nice, etc, he values Katara's personality, he could be a great boyfriend.
The most challenging one was Sokka because he's a real heartbreaker. Literally every hetero pairing with him is not rare. Suki? His endgame (I did not want to use canon endgames). Yue? Canonically in love (but she left the human world). Ty Lee? She was pretty much into him (I should have chosen her or Suki, I know, I cheated, okay?). Azula? She sees Sokka as a worthy opponent, so I can assume that she could fall for him some day (but she is one of the main characters – or villains, whatever – and this relationship would be very unhealthy). So, again, I cheated and chose Yue, my personal favorite. They could at least meet in the spirit world after Sokka's passing ("The Legend of Korra", I'm looking at you).
'Cause she is just twelve, Toph has no official endgame. It is ok, normally one can't just found a person in his or her twelve years and fall for them and live together ever since (kataang should happen later too, imho). Toph was a little into Sokka but he did not understand it, which is also ok for teens. But I found someone – the Duke! He helped Toph to aim in "The Awakening", cared for her on the submarine in "The Day of Black Sun", they had a cute hug in the finale. And there are some sweet moments in the "Swordbending" from "The Lost Adventures" comic book. I don't care much for Avatar graphic novels in general, but you can find something worthy there.
Just one girl ever said that Zuko is cute and it was Jin. She is a sweetheart, she was kind to him, initiative, gentle – I love her with all my heart. I believe she was Zuko's first kiss. It's a shame we never saw her in action again. Also there is Song, who was understanding and wanted to help, but I did not feel any response from Zuko. In the series he had so many issues, that he did not need any relationship. But after the war – why not? Give Song a ton of ostrich horses, apologise to Jin and ask her out again, you.
As for Suki – I know a lot of fans want her to be an official Gaang member, but sadly she has no personal relationship with any side characters. She was on a date with a Foaming mouth guy once? Great but it's highly improbable that she really liked him (yeah, that's the creator's joke). Well, I guess some people can be happy without any romance in their life, right? But I did not want to draw her here alone, it would feel sad.
A:tlA rare pairings

Hello! if your still doing Au asks, I was wondering if maybe you could do an Zuko x Sokka x Suki x Yue (cause in my mind she lives), I don't know why i just think its a cute ship?
Thanks for the ask!
Of course! It sounds like a cute ship to me too.
Sokka and Yue actually get together during the North Pole episodes. While Sokka did have a crush on Suki, he actually starts a relationship with Yue. It's one of the reasons that she decides to join them in their journey after Aang learns waterbending. So now it's season two but with Yue.
The Gaang meets Suki at the Serpent's Pass and Sokka introduces the her and Yue. Throughout their time together, Yue can tell Sokka still has feelings for Suki and also develops a little crush on her as well. Something that she struggles with a bit because the North Pole doesn't really allow gay relationships, but the South Pole does. By the end of the Serpent's Pass episode, the three confess that they like each other (I imagine Yue would do this while half hiding behind her hair cause I find that so cute) and agree to talk more later. In this version, Suki agrees to come back to Ba Sing Se after she finishes some work with the other Kyoshi Warriors. So the group is expecting her.
Sokka hears Suki (Azula in disguise) is in Ba Sing Se and almost doesn't go with Aang, but Yue tells him to and says she'll talk to her. When Yue goes to talk to her, she'd go first thing, she quickly realizes it isn't Suki and is captured by Azula. Now, Katara starts to grow uneasy because her friend suddenly disappeared. She goes to the king and tells him something in wrong, but he gives a similar response "Bosco's animal instincts would sense it." Still uneasy, she writes to Sokka and tells him to come back. Things would be pretty similar to canon except Aang stays with the Guru. Katara finds out about the Kyoshi Warriors when she goes to talk to Suki and is captured as well. Everyone, minus Aang, heads back to Ba Sing Se and a battle emerges between the groups. "WHERE'S SUKI!?!"
The city still falls, but Aang does not. The group flees and stays with Hakoda. Sokka and Yue spend the entire time worrying about Suki and if she's okay. Flash forward to the DOBS, Yue comes within seconds of stabbing Azula (cause Yue hates anyone who calls her girlfriend her favorite prisoner) only to be stopped by Aang. When Zuko arrives, Sokka and Yue don't consider him as more than anything but a firebending teacher for Aang. It's only during the Boiling Rock episode that they start to see him as more. Sokka falls first, but Yue is right behind him. Suki is the one who's more reserved because he burned down her village. However, after a few weeks, the four start spending more and more time together and finally talk about liking each other. Zuko also suffers from some internal issues because the Fire Nation is very much against same sex relationships. He grows but slowly.
Following the war, Sokka and Yue have to return to their homes but Suki stays in the Fire Nation with the Kyoshi Warriors. Sokka and Yue do return and start going back and forth between nations. The fact that Zuko has partners from the Earth Kingdom, South Pole and North Pole does come in handy though with international relations. The only disturbance to their schedule is when Izumi comes into their lives and the four parents all want to share their culture with her and spend as much time as possible with her. They eventually decide to keep her in the Fire Nation (because she is technically their princess) but bring her to the South Pole, North Pole and Kyoshi Island every few months.

Yes hi, I'd love to know more about your tourettes sokka hc if you're up for it šŸ‘€ I'm starving for tourettes hcs so šŸ‘€
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! I can talk about this SO MUCH (I will warn now, there will be some Zukka in this) okay so I guess I’ll start at the beginning...
Sokka was six when he started showing symptoms
It started with just some motor tics but everyone kind of just attributed it to this kid has a lot of energy ahhh
It became more noticeable when he kept almost killing himself with weapons because of his tics and slight carelessness
That’s one reason why he loves boomerang so much, none of the other weapons felt right to him and they would always get in the way of his tics, but he could throw boomerang and it would come back to him so he could keep throwing it and it made him feel calm
Then, Sokka started saying stuff that he didn’t mean to say, but again, everyone was just like hyper kidĀ because it’s not like he was doing anything wrong
But they realized something was up when Sokka started yellingĀ ā€œFIRE NATIONā€ without intending to and sending the whole tribe in a panic
So, Hakoda took Sokka to a nearby trustworthy Earth Kingdom village and that’s where Sokka got diagnosed with Tourette’s (and ADHD)
One of the things with Sokka is touch, like, he feels like touch is constricting and restraining sometimes. The problem is, he LOVES touch, he is a touchy person, but when someone touches him without telling him first or asking him, he doesn’t like it.
Sometimes he mentally shuts down when it happens, sometimes he tics more, the reaction depends on his anxiety levels and who touched him and when and where
The only people he gave a pass to was Kya and Katara. He didn’t even like it when Hakoda put a hand on his shoulder.
It was weird, he could feel the difference when Katara and Kya touched him compared to anyone else and he felt bad because he wanted his dad to hug him, but it felt so wrong
So, Sokka loves touch, but he likes to initiate it
So, moving forward, Sokka and Katara meet Aang, he’s the Avatar, they join and you know, there’s Aang the Avatar, Katara the Waterbender, and Sokka the guy with Tourette’s on the team
At least, that’s how they are known amongst the Fire Nation
Going undercover is so fun for Sokka, but he also has to be really conscious of what he’s doing and what he says and trying to suppress
It takes a lot out of him, but he knows he literally has to do it or he could get caught or expose them and Aang or Katara could get caught
On occasion, he has tic attacks (and for those who don’t know, they’re essentially a really bad TS day or moment where your tics are more consistent and seem to hurt more or you just have like an unending moment of tics where you just can’t stop for a little while. They are usually caused by anxiety or overstimulation or something like that, but they differ for everyone with TS)
The first time it happened in front of Aang, the sweet child panicked because he didn’t really understand what was happening and why Sokka was doing that and really what TS was
Katara is an angel, seriously. She is so sweet to Sokka when this happens and she knows exactly how to ground him and help him get through it
(Seriously, Sokka appreciates her so much. She is genuinely the one exception and anytime she wants a hug or any kind of touch she is allowed to do it)
the first time it happens in front of Toph when she joins is in Bitter Work when Sokka was in the hole
Just looking at Sokka in the whole sends my anxiety up because he literally can’t move! So like, imagine being in a hole for like five hours+ and needing to move like physically and you can feel the sensation in your body and it hurts and burns and tingles but you can’t. Sokka is not having a good time
So, Toph drags him out of the hole and is freaked out because she can’t see what’s happening and it’s scary because Sokka is making noises and hyperventilating and his heart rate is through the roof and Aang ran to get Katara and she can’t touch him because when she pulled him out of the hole he shrieked
She’s cool with it after that, she doesn’t think of him any less or anything, but it terrifiedĀ her the first time because no one told her he had TS because they forgot to mention it and she couldn’t see what was happening
We all know that Sokka loves Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors with his whole entire heart and once they kicked his butt and helped him learn that sexism is bad, they were so fun to work with?? They taught him their style, obviously, but they also helped him incorporate his TS into it and how to use it to his advantage, something he had been struggling with his whole life
One of the things Sokka loved most about Yue is that she never even mentioned his sounds or movements she just let him do it without questioning him and that doesn’t happen a lot
I feel like Sokka having TS would make his time with Piandao even kore meaningful because he really struggles to keep his hands still so sword fighting does not come naturally to him
Piandao loves it though because it just makes Sokka even more clever and resourceful and he takes his time with Sokka, helping him as much as he can and never getting angry or anything when he can’t stand still
He also added more to what Sokka learned from the Kyoshi Warriors about incorporating his TS into his fighting and using it to his advantage
Not only was his sword an extension of his arm, but his TS was an extension as well
Did Toph and Aang help Sokka incorporate his tics into their scams? Yes, yes they did
Zuko joining the team was weird for Sokka because they kind of just clicked and he realized that they both have a weird thing with touch
On the balloon to Boiling Rock, Sokka is just comfortable around Zuko and his tics are likeĀ ā€œcool yeah, have a breakā€ and so he doesn’t tic and Zuko justĀ ā€œwhy aren’t you ticcing?ā€
and Sokka is ???Ā ā€œHuh?ā€
and ZukoĀ ā€œYou usually tic but you aren’t now. Why?ā€
and Sokka essentially explains that TS is weird and random and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but he’s really comfortable and calm so his body is like ā€œye, let’s chill for nowā€
and Zuko is likeĀ ā€œoh. that’s good. I kinda miss it thoughā€
and Sokka d i e s because what?? Someone likes his tics enough to miss them? Like, they don’t annoy Zuko and he doesn’t tune them out?
and the bender goes on to explain that he likes the noises, they remind him that he is doing the right thing and that he’s here and he didn’t hurt team Avatar and they’re just comfortable / pleasing to the ear
and Sokka DIES
but then Zuko is like mmm maybe you should stay in the balloon and I’ll go to Boiling Rock and Sokka got pissed because he thinks Zuko said it because he’s a nonbender and he starts panicking and ticcing and Zuko panics and kind of just grabs his hand and Sokka... Sokka doesn’t hate it? Like, it feels nice and doesn’t agitate him?
but Zuko was like no I mean because everyone in the Fire Nation guard knows about the guy on team Avatar with TS and I don’t want you to get hurt
At one point in the prison courtyard, Sokka verbally tics really loudly about the moon and some guards hear and head to where they are so Zuko covers for him by screaming about how much he loves the moon
One of the worst moments in Sokka’s life was when Toph was falling and he grabbed her, but he wanted to tic and he knew that if he did, Toph would fall and die and he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t
(he still has nightmares about it happening)
when Sokka becomes an ambassador, some people are pissed because well 1) Watertribe 2) he’s a child 3) they suck 4) they think he’s distracting with his tics and Zuko is not here for it so he will destroy them
Like one time (after they started dating) Zuko overheard some councilors mocking Sokka’s tics and he got PISSED like so pissed and he went off and the found Sokka and hugged him because he is allowed to
oh! Sokka and Zuko’s thing is like hand-holding okay? They both kind of hate it because weird touch stuff, but it’s okay when they do it to each other?? Like, it feels right and like they’re completed and whole and it’s nice
before they start dating, they kind of do it a lot. Like, night before Zuko’s coronation, Sokka finds Zuko and he’s freaking out because what if he ends up like his dad and Sokka kind of just... grabs his hand and they sit there
Sokka is panicking because chronic pain and the cold of home makes it worse and Zuko finds him crying in the library and just... holds his hand
Zuko keeps little things on him all the time like paperclips and paper and writing utensils and things that click and buttons and stuff so if Sokka looks stressed during a meeting he can slip something under the table to him so he can play with it
Sokka also draws a lot during meetings, like, he doesn’t look at anyone throughout the whole meeting, even when he talks. He is able to focus more and pay more attention when he is doing something with his hands so he draws and doodles and sometimes takes notes
Sometimes he just writes the same word or sentence over and over again throughout the whole meeting
Sokka has sensory issues and a lot of noise stresses him out
It’s kind of the opposite of Zuko’s sensory issues? Like, Zuko doesn’t like loud noises and Sokka doesn’t like kind of static-y noises, like... when things sound muffled or muted or people are talking kind of quietly over each other
(Zuko definitely gives Sokka massages when his tics hurt a lot)
Random, but after awhileĀ ā€œyip yipā€ became a verbal tic of Sokka’s. Sometimes, he would sayĀ ā€œyou need to yip yipā€ and then he’d apologize to Appa and tell him that he’s yipping just fine
Toph is kind of like Zuko in how she likes Sokka’s verbal tics
She can’t see-see, but hearing his tics is nice sometimes, especially when she worries
She likes falling asleep to some of his tics
Even though Katara and Zuko are allowed to touch him whenever they want, more often than not they ask first because friendship is magic
Suki is lovely, okay? Like, just her presence is enough to make him feel better and she approaches helping him in a different way, she just talks to him and asks him questions to help him take his mind off of it
Sokka really doesn’t hate his TS, like, yeah, sometimes it pisses him off more than he can even explain, but it’s a part of him and as much as he cherishes when he can sit still, it’s wrong, it’s not him? He sits weirdly in chairs and changes his position every two minutes, he rocks his legs in his sleep, he sometimes even finds his own tics grounding...
Over time and with help from his friends, he learned to not be ashamed and that having TS didn’t make him ant less of a warrior
also, he, Toph, and Zuko are the disabled clubāœŒšŸ»(and it makes them feel better sometimes in their own little way)
I have a lot more I could say but this is already pretty long, so I’ll end this sweet with Katara is amazing and Sokka’s relationship with her is wonderful and she knows how to help him with his tics in the way that Zuko does and can help center him like no one else and Sokka just loves her so much
Okay! Ah! That was kind of a lot but I hope you like them! Anyone can feel free to add more to this or lemme know if you have any ideas!
Thank you for the ask! I enjoyed writing these:)
