#facebook problems

Hey, all!

This is really annoying for a bunch of reasons, but someone is impersonating me on Facebook. In addition to stealing my pictures and text, which is just creepy as fuck, they are also trying to scam Indie authors, which is...just mean.

I keep reporting them for impersonation and Facebook keeps telling me they are not violating community guidelines (even though impersonation is one of the listed ways to violate community guidelines).

Guys I’m going to be honest I can’t think of any threats (that I could post on tumblr or that would be funny) that beat what I and my fellow Americans are going through right now in sheer horribleness.

All I can say is stay alive, stay strong, and don’t let them scare you into hurting yourself. Things are scary, yes. That’s why you have to stay alive. Don’t make it easier for them.

possibly the most annoying thing that people do following a movie with sex scenes is insist that a man and a woman who act together (aka do. their. job???) must have a sexual connection irl. specifically I’m looking at Hailee Steinfeld and Michael B. Jordan in Sinners; and the conversation is exclusively framed in two ways: “wow Hailee’s ex must be so mad” and “wow Hailee’s current partner must be so mad.” it’s so sexist to consistently frame it in that way, and don’t get me started on the complete lack of attention for Wunmi Mosaku despite her and MBJ also having equivalently intimate scenes. smh

I used to get an arguments on facebook and it bit me in the ass enormously because it turns out that when you get an arguments on facebook habitually, you'll be interacting with a lot of other people who get an arguments on facebook habitually, and most of these people are deeply unpleasant and they will be super mean to you in really fucked up ways. so for a couple of years I just sort of dropped off ever interacting with anyone who said things that I did not agree with. I would just scroll past stuff or I would get upset about it privately and move on. I did not ever engage. and the last couple of weeks I've started being able to say things in response to things I don't agree with in ways that I feel lay out what my perspective is but do not get overly invested in "winning" or "proving" anything -- I will say my piece generally for the benefit of other people who might be reading the conversation and need to hear what I have to say. and then I will turn notifications off and go do something else.

so about the tiktok ban, i agree it's really bad as a concept and it's awful that the US gov is even trying to do something like that with all the zucc lobbying.

but on a personal level, it feels kind of morally good? like i deleted the app years ago because it kept sucking me in for more time than i wanted. i have REALLY bad ADD and every single social media app (that isn't tumblr) has an evil engagement algorithm that pushes arguments and flame wars,, and that turns every one of them into a horrible ADHD trap. and in that sense I think it's good for our species that one of them is getting kneecapped

personally I think every app that uses an algorithm like that should be banned or restricted for the good of users, especially young or neurodivergent ones. we deserve better social media that actually fosters communication, like what rednote is right now (not saying rednote is perfect, i don't have it and dont know how it works but it seems to be helping people with intercultural communication?? soooo)

and y'know what i'm mature enough to admit that i was wrong when i accused lhm and khs of randomly changing credos design for funsies. i still think they fucked up my guy's design but at least they didn't just make him purple for no fucking reason.

this does make it more confusing as to why everyone acted as if jangcheol being purple was a drastic change if that's his normal skin color anyway. alas. mang-gi didn't bless us with an illustration per chapter in this novel either so i can't know for sure what the gag was supposed to be there OTL
