If Mrs Bennet was indeed the only one 'doing something about the situation' like I often see argued when Pride and Prejudice is discussed... surely she would have spent frugally to ensure her daughters had substantial dowries? Surely she would have employed governesses to educate her daughters to ensure they had the accomplishments necessary to enable them make a successful marriage? Surely she would not have relied on desperate schemes to throw her daughters in front of eligible men and instead allowed them to be judged on their merits?

And yet...

We are told in Chapter 50 that Mrs Bennet has 'no turn for economy,' and only Mr Bennet (a waste of space himself, mind you) prevents them from exceeding their income,

Elizabeth tells Lady Catherine in Chapter 29 that 'we never had any governess' and that 'those who chose to be idle, certainly might.' So even in the absence of having someone around at Longbourn who was entirely dedicated to the girls' education, no pressure was exerted upon them to study... and Elizabeth smilingly reassures Lady Catherine that Mrs Bennet was not a slave to their education,

In Chapter 18, thanks to 'a manoeuvre of Mrs. Bennet,' the party are the last to depart after the Netherfield ball and 'had to wait for their carriage a quarter of an hour after everybody else was gone.' Which is not only rude but highly embarrassing... but she really wanted Bingley and Jane to spend a few extra minutes together, just to make sure...

As you see, there were plenty of opportunities for Mrs Bennet to ensure her daughters were better prepared to find husbands. Yes, in marrying Mr Bennet, she married 'up,' and so might not have had these advantages herself (and Mr Bennet does share some of the blame).

But it's honestly somewhat of a miracle that Jane and Elizabeth turned out so well and were able to make such good marriages, even in spite of such a calamitous upbringing...

In a series of events that absolutely nobody could have predicted, Steve’s parents adore Eddie. Richard thinks he’s witty and sharp, a breath of fresh air for a man stuck in endless meetings with corporate egos. Linda laughed so hard the first time they invited him to dinner, she cried. Nobody is more surprised than Steve, who brought his alternative high school dropout boyfriend to his parents almost as an act of late teenage rebellion. But hilariously, Eddie’s fun personality and his disdain for everything mainstream makes him catnip for rich pretentious people. They bond over their hatred of the idiosyncrasy of middle class small town people in America, everyone is so closed minded and average, you know? No ambition, nothing! And this guy is a rockstar, Steve!, they say. You could use some of that ambition yourself! Have some goals in life!

It’s almost insulting. Like that’s his boyfriend. They can’t like him more than he does!! But Steve even caught his mom smoking pot with Eddie in the porch after dinner one time, which was insane to him since the last time they caught him doing exactly that Steve had been grounded for a week. You were 16 Steve, and a star athlete, we couldn’t have you smoking in the house, she argued. And Eddie, the treacherous man that he was, agreed with her. How would you feel if Dustin started smoking, huh?

In retrospective, Steve should have seen this coming. His parents hate Hawkins people as much as Eddie does, they do everything in their power to be away from town as much as it’s physically possible without actually moving away. They’ve had the “moving to another state” conversation several times already, and it’s been Steve who refused every time. The entire fight about Steve not getting into any college had been more about having to stay in Hawkins than anything else. But of course, his boyfriend who is literally everything this town hates in a person would be exactly what his parents like. No bond is stronger than the one between people who hate the same things.

The arrival of Harry Potter’s children—snapped back in time, the children themselves guessed, twenty or so years—was the most interesting thing to happen at Hogwarts for years.

Wheres my Soup-pocalypse bind came together in a mere few days, this one I agonized over for months.

You win some, you lose some.

I made this bind for @maleekamolscreates as part of our twins exchange, which we set in motion the day we found out we share a birthday.

I didn't plan to make another sci-fi themed Drarry bind, the chiyogami endpapers kind of dictated the direction. And I couldn't not use these endpapers. I mean... come on.

I opted for a nearly entirely monochrome exterior, save for the title which is layered offset HTV. If you look closely, you can see a wavy texture on the bookcloth mimicking the pattern of the endpapers, which is just matte black HTV.

I don't love the way the HTV turned out, and if I had to do it again I would have left the cover entirely blank. Maybe include a black-only title on the spine. But conceptually I dig it, and hopefully Mally does, too.

The edges are painted with black acrylic ink and the endbands are hand-sewn with black silk thread using DAS's Two Colour Front Bead Headband tutorial.

I finally managed to find short-grain cream paper in Canada (ty, Canada Papers!), which really elevated the typeset in my opinion.

There are two pieces for this bind: the twins and a second piece (so avert your eyes if you don't want any spoilers!)

I opted to use red thread for the text block because, uh, it looks cool?

I was a big baby during this whole bind, so I must thank my emotional support crew who helped me troubleshoot and talked me off the ledge more than once: @citrusses @epitomereally @sits-bound @jtimu

i love fallout 4 with my whole heart but it's so fucking funny to me that the only fallout game with romancable companions is the one where your character not only has a cannonical spouse, but said cannonical dead spouse was murdered right in front of them like (form their perspective) extremely recently.
