a side effect of reading letters written by ppl centuries ago is that you inadvertently start to pick up/absorb mannerisms and turns of phrase which doesn't do much per se, but certainly makes you sound funnier at friendly gatherings

I'm really proud of this piece- not just on an artistic level (though the textures on the wood and wall were very fun to do), but also because I made it at all.

A fun fact about me is that when I make a pitch for a zine, I have this habit of letting the unused ones die in the crib; and when this one wasn't picked I was pretty sure it would never see the light of day- but I actually managed to gather up the energy to do it.

Usually for zine pieces I try and refine it as much as possible, so it was weirdly freeing to do minimal sketch touchups and allow my lineart to be this imperfect (honestly I think the odd wobbliness adds to it).

On May 22, 2025, Kermit the Frog gave the commencement address at University of Maryland.

In the speech he spoke fondly of Jim Henson, saying

"He could always see the spark in someone. He saw the potential and he saw what was unique in each person. And he taught me what’s unique about you should always be shared. And that really stuck with me..."

He spoke to the graduates, saying that there will always be a place for them, even if the road is difficult. He encouraged people to find their people, care for their friends, and appreciate love of family and others, even if they aren't there. In doing so, he gave the advice,

"Rather than jumping over someone to get what you want, consider reaching out your hand and taking the leap side by side. Because, life is better when we leap together.."

To conclude his words to the graduates, he sang "Rainbow Connection" with everyone.
