Sp Special Containment: Aramais.

I chose Aramais because of how heavy I've been writing into his character lately. I love him so much, and I have a lot coming up for him soon.

For me he is like a father/guardian to the other contained weapons in the facility. He is often watching out for them and making sure things are done right. Through this he has to also heal himself, he has a lot of trauma to work through. He's got Andy though. I'm excited where this story is going.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to explain the pics, but oh well.

The knife in the mirror: I find Aramais gets frustrated with his pass and himself. The mirror is a constant reminder of what he was forced to be. He has broken several and the facility doesn't allow him to have one any longer.

Standing on top of the building: Aramais is a thrill seeker so he likes doing this stuff, but this is also inner because one wrong step he could fall.

The patient: Aramais is not used to being taken care of. The more Andy learns about Aramais the closer they grow. I feel like that picture resembles Aramais being taken care of, he is shocked but still holds onto Andy's hands for the comfort.

Decided to do the 50 questions to get to know the character, at least how I write her.

What does your character do when they think no one’s looking?

Air play her violin, or dance. This nerd used to go to cyber raves back in her younger days and she’s still got the moves.

Checks her puppy cam to check in on Maddox at home.

What’s the one thing your character would save in a fire (beyond the necessities)?

Her favorite rabbit, Bonnie. It’s her control test subject for all of her experiments and unfortunately she’s grown rather fond of the little furball.

Her Doberman, named Maddox. He is best boy and the only thing to unconditionally love her.

Who’s on speed dial?

Angela

Your character gets turned down for their dream job. What’s their second choice?

She would’ve become a basement made geneticist whether Overwatch gave her the job or not.

But a professional violinist would be a close second.

What would they tell their ten-year-old self?

Stay weird kid. The strangest people oftentimes are the best people.

Where would they want to go on a first date?

Moira loves to cook, like obsessively loves to cook. So she would make dinner or would appreciate it if her date cooked for her as well. Someone’s cooking says alot about a person.

What’s the best advice they’ve ever received?

No one cares. Not in a sadistic way, but in the, be weird and do your own thing kinda way. Because no one cares about it as much as you do and most people aren’t even paying attention to notice the weird.

What’s the worst advice they’ve ever received?

“Just find that part of your brain and switch it on/off.”

What’s one physical detail they’d change about themselves?

Pre-serum incident, nothing. Moira revels in her genetic mutations, such as her heterochromia.

Post-serum, the damned cursed arm.

When was the last time they were held? By who?

When she last fell asleep on the couch next to Angela, nodding off and Angela just tugs her to rest against her warmth. 

What’s their favorite thing about their favorite season?

Summer back home is her favorite season. But specifically how the wildlife and vegetation just become so vibrant for those two short months where the sky isn’t as grey as usual. She takes Maddox on many hikes in the Irish countryside.

Their wallet gets stolen. What do they do?

Activates the tracking chip in it, hunts down who stole it and might or might not teach that person a lesson.

Prioritize: Love, money, power, knowledge?

Knowledge, its limitless and vast. Like a drug to Moira.

Money, for her research 

Love, she’s become sentimental over the years

Power, now this one might surprise you, but Moira isn’t the woman on the throne kind of person when it comes to power. She’s the one who does so from the backlines waiting for her efforts to come to fruition. 

What’s something nobody knows about them?

She is an avid appreciator of fine clothing and arts. A collector of fine artwork.

That she has her dog, Maddox.

What’s in their fridge?

Fresh ingredients for cooking meals. Her favorite time of day is when she can come home and be at peace cooking a good meal for herself.

What (creature, object, substance) are they most disgusted by?

Humanity. Humans, more so men, have been the single most detrimental beings on the face of this Earth in all its years. 

What’s their second worst habit?

It’s a toss up between whiskey and smoking.

What are the victory conditions for their life?

To solve the full mystery of genetics and how to prevent genetic deterioration, regeneration is the key to immortality. 

In the end, your character fails to save the day. Assuming they survive, what do they do?

Shut down. Isolate and end up drunk locked up in her apartment. Most likely spending alone time with Maddox. 

Your character is charged with a crime they didn’t commit. What do they do?

She either calls Angela to bail her out, or decides to absolutely verbally tear into the officers who are accusing her of a crime.

Probably either assault or murder. Let’s be real, someone tries to start something with her, she’s gonna finish it decisively. 

How would you describe your character’s life in one sentence?

All my big mistakes are when I try to second-guess or please others, my work is always stronger when I get very selfish about it.

What important statistic would they want displayed above them?

Lives saved thanks to her research. For gloating purposes solely lol

What’s the first thing they would buy if they won the lottery?

All of the money would go back into funding her research. No question.

What profession do they most respect?

Anything with manual labor. She recognizes how spoiled medical professionals are with not having physically demanding jobs positions, and just how much the laborers make the world go round.

What childhood injustice did they never get over?

Being bullied for being the ‘nerdy’ kiddo. She still to this day tries to prove to herself that she’s ‘cool’, aka sophisticated in her older years.

How would they handle having a panic attack?

She wouldn’t know what in the hell was happening. Moira doesn’t strike me as someone who would have to deal with them ever, so for something to have brought her to that point, it’d be a full meltdown.

Your character is burdened with an inconvenient superpower. What is it?

I think unfortunately for post serum Moira, it’d be the uncontrollable biotic energy her arm produces. Imagine being in the middle of trying to delicately use a piece of equipment and suddenly the energy just destroys it. 

If they died and could come back as any person, animal, or object, what would they be?

She wouldn’t want to come back to this world. She’d want resolution and an end to be final. 

What’s the best meal they’ve ever had?

Her self made recipe for barmbrack.

Where would they stand at a dinner party?

If not trying to impress a particular lady, or trying to humiliate some power hungry and cocky man, she’d be on the edges of the party people watching and sipping her wine or whiskey.

Who would they invite to the dinner party?

Angela would be first and foremost.

What makes a perfect day for your character?

Waking up a bit later than normal, cuddling in the late morning with Maddox, then taking him for a long hike in the Irish highlands.

If given the opportunity, would they want to know how and when they died?

She wouldn’t care either way. She’s accepted that death is all a part of life, and being up in her years, she knows that at any point today can be her last.

What’s the one thing they’ve always wanted to do? Why haven’t they done it yet?

Perform professionally with her violin. It started out as a thinking habit, to help distract her mind when she was stumped with an experiment. But turned into a true love for the instrument. Unfortunately, she’s been told she plays too clinically and without a soul, which had deterred her from pursuing it as a career option.

What do they tend to joke about?

Life and death. 

The inadequacies of men.

What’s off limits?

Touching Maddox without permission.

Tampering with her data.

Whose wedding would they cross the world to attend? Whose funeral?

She’s not close enough with others around her to warrant that extreme.

What impossible choice did they make that turned out to be the right one? The wrong one?

Right choice: To introduce herself intimately with Angela.

Wrong choice: The desperate need for a human test subject, so deciding to use herself. Aka the serum incident.

Your character has someone to hype them up. What would they say to get everyone excited about your character?

Angela of course would state how compassionate Moira actually is. She would try to make sure they weren’t either scared or annoyed with her. 

What recurring dream does your character have?

Receiving the award for finishing her life’s work. Finding the true cure for degenerative cells, infinite cell regeneration and immortality. 

What is the meaning of life to your character?

The meaning of her life is to crack the genetic sequence to immortality. 

What book does your character pretend to have read?

Any publication her ‘colleagues’ claim.

Someone takes undeserved credit for your character’s work. What do they do?

Moira wouldn’t stand by and allow them to take the credit. She would systematically disprove their involvement and humiliate their reputation for the foreseeable future. 

What controversial belief or view does your character hold? Why? Do they hide it?

Humans are no different than the animals they try to dominate. Just because we have a higher evolutionary intelligence, doesn’t put us as the apex predator or in our own category from animals. She states this many times with regards to when men try peacock. 

Your character is at a theme park. Where do they go first?

The central annex to park herself and people watch. Observing social dynamics and interactions in larger data pools.

What’s your character’s favorite name?

diabhal ann an clisgeadh (her mother called her this when she became obsessed with genetic sciences.)

That she is truly at the height of her field, outmatching and dominating everyone else in it.

How does your character feel about bugs?

She LOVES them. Their genetic diversity is mystifying.

Not a chance. She’d be right back to where she is now.

Maybe the only moment would be to choose NOT to leave Overwatch and Angela.

I'm always entertained by people doing those "canon VS fanon" memes where both are misunderstanding characters to such a violent degree 'cause like

To me the most fun part about fix-its is placing dominoes.

Tragedies often consist of escalating series of actions and circumstances which, in isolation, were not clearly leading to the tragic end but form a chain of cause-and-effect directly towards it in hindsight. In equal but opposite fashion, I love starting with small inoccuous changes to canon that in themselves do not obviously fix everything but start a new chain that leads to a better ending.

It's kind of impossible for fix-its to feel fully natural– the reader by definition knows what the original ending was and that this ending will be happier because the writer wants it to be– but it is possible for them to not feel contrived. A big deus-ex-machina, or a character breaking with their pre-established tragic flaws to suddenly make all the "correct" decisions almost always feels unsatisfying to me.

But a few carefully placed small domino pieces slowly knocking over bigger and bigger tiles until the entire story has radically changed? That's a lot more fun.

It recquires the author to both correctly identify the original chain of cause-and-effect and understand the characters well enough to know how they'd react to different circumstances. Because if the story feels like it's fixing the wrong problem or the characters don't act like themselves the magic is lost. But when it works? When it clicks and the reader sees the domino chain laid out in front of them? It's beautiful.

This already happened actually. Angie wanted to be an artist or a singer. Got turned down for both when given opportunities. Even started university with an art and music major, but changed it to pre-med and so on.

Sing with all your soul and maybe someday it’ll reach the universe.

Where would they want to go on a first date?

Somewhere they’ve never thought to go. Not a typical dinner or bar situation.

What’s the best advice they’ve ever received?

Wear good shoes. Not pretty ones, but comfortable ones. You do far more hours on your feet running around than you’d think as a doctor.

Fake it until you make it. When people’s lives are at stake, you can’t use that to any slightest. 

What’s one physical detail they’d change about themselves?

To be a bit taller. There are some things in the highest cabinets she just can’t reach easily in the lab. Even in heels.

When lab results aren’t stealing Moira away and she’s actually home, Angie demands it.

Flowers. Angie has a garden she tends to, filled with all sorts of beautiful spring and summer flowers.

Use her HALO AI to call the local police and give detailed step by step walkthrough of her day and where it might’ve been stolen. Doing half the cops work lol

Meticulously organized prep meals. She uses an order service that drops the meals off once a week. She doesn’t have the time nor the patience for cooking her own meals. She relies too much on Fareeha/Moira for good home cooked meals. The girls spoil her.

What (creature, object, substance) are they most disgusted by?

Recreational drugs. She understands that for some there isn’t a “cure” for addiction, that it’s a struggle once you’ve gotten into it. But the fact that they had been meant to be starters for medicines and turned out this way due to capitalism. Makes her sometimes regret getting into the medical field when she sees what they do to someone’s body in the long run.

What’s their second worst habit?

Biting her nails. Angie absently bites her nails when she’s concentrating too hard on her work, or get stumped. She tries to use that bad tasting anti bite nail polish, but forgets sometimes to put it on.

What are the victory conditions for their life?

To have advanced medical research enough to help prevent as many disease related death as possible. Nearly negating the fact that they exist.

In the end, your character fails to save the day. Assuming they survive, what do they do?

Angela has lost some lives under her knife unfortunately. And she cleans herself up from surgery, walks back to her office and sits down to decompress. Usually resulting in her crying for a little bit in solitude. She never wants to lose anyone on her table, but when she does, it hits her personally.

Uses all of her credentials and knowledge to prove otherwise.

Are you kidding me? Angie guilty of a crime? If anything it would’ve been guilty by association to Fareeha speeding on her bike or Moira and her MANY morally gray scientific experiments.

Angel with a scalpel.

Lives saved first hand

What’s the first thing they would buy if they won the lottery?

Nothing for themselves. Probably something for Fareeha/Moira. But would most likely donate all of it to AWS(Associate for Women in Science). Wanting to help fund a young girl's future.

What profession do they most respect?

Therapists. Angie is very empathetic when it comes to other people's emotions around them. Often feeling them just as hard as they are. So to be able to distance yourself from that, but also be able to help those who are dealing with all of it on the daily basis. It’s a perfect balancing act.

Her parents shutting down her dream of being an artist or singer. They only wanted her to have a tangible and successful profession. “The world will always need doctors.” Is what her father used to always say.

Full meltdown. Isolation. Fareeha/Moira would find her melting down in her office or the lab in a shut off corner or closet. She would be full of shame after the fact.

Angie would unfortunately be the center of attention. Her warm glow and radiant smile always draws people close. People can’t help but want o bask in her presence, and meet the woman behind the medical advancements she’s won awards over. If she had it her way, she’d be coasting the edges and people watching.

Fareeha/Moira

Torbjorn, his snarky jokes and boisterous energy would liven everything up

Jack, he never gets out to do anything and she would force him to have a decent meal and spend some time with the team

Getting to spend time in her garden and sitting after a long hot day on her patio with a cold glass of lemonade and basking in the sun with a good book.

No, but if given the information, she would do everything to dive into her research to prevent it somehow.

Karaoke bar night. She’s never even bright it up for fear of embarrassment and colleagues thinking less of her.

Soft hearted jokes about having to take care of someone who was injured, like the mom doctor friend

Harming others for the sake of causing them pain. Simply because you can.

Angie is always trying to push Ana and Reinhardt into each other's orbits and just make them date already. They’re such a cute couple and perfect for one another. She would move planets to make it to their wedding.

Anyone’s funeral on the team. She would fight off hordes of rogue Omnics to make it.

What impossible choice did they make that turned out to be the right one? The wrong one?

Right one: Becoming a doctor. Even though she seemingly gave up her singing dream, becoming a doctor and choosing to join Overwatch specifically, has been the greatest way for her to help the people she wants to. To truly make a difference using her skills for the greater good of humanity. 

Wrong one: Choosing her career over her personal life. She has given up so many years of her life to her work, at the cost of having anything worth while outside of it all. 

Your character has someone to hype them up. What would they say to get everyone excited about your character?

“She may look beautiful and innocent. But underneath that halo, there’s an angel with a shotgun if crossed.”

What recurring dream does your character have?

Being up on some big stage, singing to her heart’s content. The woman she would’ve been without Overwatch.

What is the meaning of life to your character?

To cherish the time you have with those around you. Living in the moment and always giving back to the world around you. Being able to die with peace in your mind and love in your heart.

What book does your character pretend to have read?

Any comic book, Fareeha adores comics and at least Angie can appreciate the artwork when Fareeha shows it to her in flashes.

Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters. Moira has a special signed 1st edition on her shelf and a backup copy that is so tattered from being read over and over again. Angie has skimmed footnotes to see the references in Moira’s work and why she became so obsessed with it.

Unfortunately, this happens all the time in her line of work. Unless she is able to patent and get published by medical journals, there is always a chance others will take her research and run with it in ways she never dared. (cough cough Moira)

Science should never be weaponized against humankind. She became a doctor to save people, not put them back together after the mayhem of some unempathetic lunatic who unleashes hell on earth.

Angie would love any part of a waterpark. But I think mainly she would enjoy the garden seating areas most. People watching is her favorite pastime.

Against all efforts to shut her down, she has stood up and firmly planted herself in her field and proven over and over that women in STEM are powerful with compassion.

Not bothered at all. Spending most of her free time outside around her garden, bugs are essential to ecosystems and bother no one on purpose.

I don’t think so. She has worked very hard to be where she is now and wouldn’t give it up for the world.
