You honestly don’t know how it starts. One minute, you’re talking about stress, the next, you’re in the bunker’s garage sitting cross-legged on the floor with Castiel, a tiny metal grinder in your lap and a suspiciously dusty joint tutorial video playing on your phone.

You flick. A spark. “Okay, now suck in while I light it—no, not that fast, you’re gonna—yep. You coughed.”

Cas is hacking like a dying lawnmower, eyes wide, hand flailing at the smoke. “It’s burning me. Why would people enjoy this?!”

You’re already giggling. “Just give it a second.”

A minute later, the two of you are leaned back against a dusty tire rack, joint passed back and forth like some kind of sacrament. The high hits fast, like a slap wrapped in glitter. The world gets a little floaty. Your limbs stop belonging to you. You feel your own smile stretch across your face and it won’t go away.

“I feel... untethered,” Cas whispers, looking at his hands like they’re the secret to the universe. “Am I still in my vessel? Or did I shed it like a snake?”

You wheeze. “You’re not a snake, Cas.”

He touches his face. “Then why do I feel scaly?”

“Is this part of Hell?” Cas asks, blinking at the ceiling.

“No, Hell has vending machines that steal your quarters. This is worse.”

The door creaks open behind you. You both freeze like raccoons caught in a trash can.

Dean pokes his head in. Stares.

You’re 85% sure your pupils are the size of Jupiter.

He sighs. “I told Sam they’d hotbox the garage.”

Cas perks up. “Dean! Did you know clouds are not sentient but should be?”

Dean doesn’t blink. “Okay, I’m gonna go pretend this isn’t happening.”

He shuts the door.

Silence.

Then: “I think we blew his mind,” you whisper.

Cas nods solemnly. “I like being a cloud.”

In light of the recent Nintendo boycotts, I come bearing a gift

This is totally illegal and you absolutely shouldn't do it because its wrong, so I'm gonna tell you exactly what to do so that you guys know not to do it!

You guys absolutely should not download Azahar Nintendo 3DS emulator and then go onto Citra-emulator.com to find old Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games and then open the games through Azahar for to play free, including Tomodachi life, ACNH, The Sims 3, Nintendogs + Cats and Flipnote Studio.

You really shouldn't do this stuff its its illegal but if you did it, it would totally work and no one could stop you. Also I work in tech and virus scanned random files and they all came up clean so its safe but its still illegal don't do it................. (But you totally could and no one would stop you)

The Citra emulator doesn't work because the dev got hit with a lawsuit. He went on to work on Azahar. They say not to do this for legal protection, but it fully works.

As far as I know, these games do not have piracy barriers EXCEPT Tomodachi Life (A large red cross over the character faces). I have a debug file that fixes this. If you guys come across another game that has a barrier let me know and I'll search for a debug

On Windows, place the game files on your desktop and open them. It will ask you what app you want to open the file with. Choose "Select app on PC", search for Azahar and select it then press "okay"

(I'm not 100% on the process for Linux and Mac but I'm sure they're similar. On Android I know for certain they are)

You'll know if it works because the game icons will switch from a paper file to the Azahar flower

Once you see these flowers, you are all set and ready to play!

And here is the error fix for Tomodachi life. Download this file and open it like normal. It will ask you what app you wish to open it with. Open it with Azahar.

Don't panic! A lowkey scary looking dialogue box will pop up for a moment and text will very quickly load onto it. This is Azahar reading the file and saving the commands. It will very quickly close itself. Once that window closes itself, you're all set to open Tomodachi Life and play like normal!

A post on how I began writing, how I try to improve my writing, and how I describe my own writing!

This post was written per request by an anonymous ask. Refer to this post for the specific question.

A question from an anonymous writer:

"i was wondering if you could give us some insight on how you found your writing style? You have a way to make it still feel complex and full of emotion but also like the reader is right there with all the senses being touched upon. I don't know how to write about it without gushing, but my question is how did you learn to do this and what would you describe your writing style as? (as well as any hacks or tips)"

How did I begin to write?

It's hard to remember, but I really just jumped into the deep end. When I first began writing, I had no plans to do anything more than write short, 1k stories about frivolous things. I did no research, took no classes, read up on no advice.

I just started.

Of course, back then, I had no expectations for myself. I wasn't writing for a specific audience, nor was I looking to take myself seriously, and I think that helped in a lot of ways. Having fun with it, letting yourself make mistakes, and not being afraid to jump into the deep end definitely helped. In the end, all that mattered was that I was putting words down on the page.

I think that this works for a lot of hobbies. Like drawing for example. Say that you wanted to learn how to draw, but read no books on the subject, looked up no tutorials, and didn't take anyone's advice. Even without any instruction, if you drew a picture every day for 100 days straight, there would still be improvement in your ability to draw. In the end, it doesn't entirely matter whether you thought the drawings were good on a day to day basis, but rather the act of drawing that's important.

Writing is similar in many ways. And while I think that learning to write in a formal environment is great and should be encouraged for all people, practicing your writing without any rules or structure shouldn't be looked down upon either!! They're two sides of the same coin, and they contribute to your goal in their own individual ways.

Let yourself write shitty things. Let yourself write meaningless, stupid things. Trust me, it'll make your life better.

How do I try to improve my writing?

a. Read!

I've thought A LOT about what kind of advice I might give you, and while I don't have any concrete "hacks" to writing well, I think there are some things that every writer can do to expand upon their own abilities!

I know this is common advice, but it's true advice:

If you want to write well, you need to read well.

For a long time, I (like an idiot) assumed that I didn't really read that much, so when people were always saying that writers need to read, I was kind of like "huh well I guess I'm behind on the game lmao"

But, in actuality, I realized that that it was the complete opposite 💀 I guess it just didn't register in my mind because I don't consider reading reading....like, I just considered it me having fun alkdfjlkaf 💀

Like, reading is basically on the same level as playing video games and going to parties for me aldskjfaklj It's not a task so much as it is something I am actually viscerally addicted to lmao

I read at least 2 hours every day, usually more. I read for about an hour when I wake up and about an hour when I go to bed, mostly fiction novels. I read news articles every day at lunch for the large part of my break, which is about an hour. I read academic journals and nonfiction for class, and I also read other academic journals just in my free time 💀 that sounds dorky but it's not really serious reading as it is so much me looking up a question on google and then getting sucked into a journal about evolutionary biology LMAO

Basically, reading is like doing crack to me, and like a dumbass, I read so much that I actually thought I didn't read at all because everyone was talking about it like it was some big chore or something 💀

But honestly, it's great advice.

Read a lot. Enjoy reading a lot. Don't read just for the sake of reading, or because you have to do it. Read because you just fucking love reading! Read stupid novels that have bad reviews. Read short articles that don't mean anything. Read highly academic works for your studies, or read a journal about a topic you can barely understand purely because you're curious!

Don't let those haughty literature people tell you that you're only reading if you're reading something like Dostoevsky.

Reading is a skill and there are different levels to it. Maybe dense literature is too much for you. Doesn't mean you're worse than someone who can choke down the Iliad like it's nothing. Maybe it just means you want to spend time on things like Percy Jackson or Harry Potter instead!

b. Analyze the media you consume!

Now, this is definitely more difficult to do than just picking up a book and reading it. Admittedly this skill takes awhile to develop, and if you haven't done higher level reading in a formal setting before, you might find it kind of hard. However, if you're looking to take writing more seriously, then this is what I recommend. Here's a few things you should consider when analyzing a piece of media.

Just because you criticize something doesn't mean you can't love it, too. No piece of media is perfect. In fact, search for things you think a great piece of media could improve upon, and it'll help identify flaws in your own writing. For example, in the newest season of Severance (no spoilers), I thought that the time spent on establishing the scenery and atmosphere of some episodes was too long, and that that it lost the focus of the plot after a certain length of time.

There is no objective morality. There is no one set of beliefs that is entirely correct in the world. Claiming that one certain belief is entirely true is kind of like telling someone God exists: you really can't prove it. If a piece of media goes against your own views, consider what points the author makes that supports their thesis. Do you have to agree with them? No. Do you have to support them? No. But should you recognize that such a view point exists? Yes. It's important to always keep yourself aware of different points of view. Don't allow yourself to exist in an echo chamber.

If a piece of media leaves you confused, ask yourself why you're confused about the story. Is it because of the length of the piece? Is it because you don't recognize all of the words the author used? Is it because it's a view point you've never considered before? Or is it because the knowledge was presented in a bad way, making it hard to understand? If so, how could the author have presented it to make it more comprehensible?

Okay okay before this starts sounding like your high school English textbook, let's take a step back. You don't need to get out your college rule notebook and have your pencil at the ready to analyze a book you're reading. You can do it in small and meaningless ways!

If you're at the theater watching a movie, tell your friends what you thought about the movie! Listen to what they thought about the movie! Things like "I liked the story, but that one guy's acting kinda ruined the message" is a totally valid criticism, too. Same thing goes for books and movies! Like, "I really liked this book, but I didn't understand the words the author used in this scene, and it made the story hard to understand."

c. Take Grammar Into Consideration

Okay...this might be kind of an unpopular take when it comes to fan fiction, but grammar does matter. When it comes to short pieces, not using capital letters or commas might not seem like a big deal. However, at a certain point, trying to read something without proper grammar transforms from an innocent writing choice into an incomprehensible mess, especially when you're writing long form documents.

If you're considering writing longer pieces, please take the time to learn the rules of grammar. I promise it will help you get your point across so much smoother! Also, there are many readers who simply won't take a chance on your writing if they see that it's not properly formatted, and then they'll be missing out! Make sure to put your best foot forward for the sake of yourself and to give your readers the story experience they deserve!!

d. Find examples of writing styles you like!

This kind of goes hand in hand with my point about reading. While you're doing your reading, find examples of stories and media that you like the style of! Try to identify characteristics of that style that you're attracted to.

What kind of imagery is there? Is it metaphorical? Is it literal?

Do they use a lot of complex sentences? Maybe they like simple sentences, like getting straight to the point?

What's their tone? Are they blunt? Are they flowery?

When you're doing your own writing, you can try to incorporate these characteristics into your own pieces! Here's an example.

One of my favorite pieces of writing and media is the video game Disco Elysium. It's written so well. I really love the style of the author, specifically how he incorporates personification into his description of objects. I also like how he relies on fairly simple sentences to create visual description. In fact, if you pay close attention to Chapter 12: Glass Cut of Texas Red, you'll probably be able to see the influence from Disco Elysium peeking through my own writing style there!

e. Don't be afraid to sleep on it!

This.

This is my best writing advice.

You can read every book in the library, take every course at your local college on writing, and you'll still sit down one day and write something that you're just not sure about. Is it bad? Is it good? Is it some monstrous type of in-between that you can't even describe?

Fuck if you know.

And that's okay.

Not everything you write will be amazing. But instead of giving up on a piece that's halfway written when you get frustrated, close your computer and re-read what you wrote in the morning. Go do something else, clear your mind, sleep well in the evening, and give it some fresh eyes in the morning!

9 times out of 10 you'll be able to come to a conclusion on it in the morning.

The way I personally like to do it is this: Stare at my word document until I'm about to rip my hair out, slam my laptop closed, go play some mindless game for wayyyyy too long, and then sleep until my alarm physically cannot ring any more obnoxiously. Then, before I do anything else, I'll open my phone and squint through my exhaustion to reread what I wrote.

Idk how to describe it, but somehow, it works like a charm LMAO

How would I describe my own writing?

Oh god......this one I actually might not know 💀 anon you've got me

Okay, I guess here's how I would describe my style. It's highly...emotional for me. I think that's how I live my life, and I think my writing reflects that. For example, when you think about description in a novel, you often think of describing how objects and people look. But over the years in my personal life, I've discovered that I really just...don't care about the visuals of a person or place. For me, I rely heavily on how that person or objects makes me feel, not what my opinion on its appearance is.

If you read my story Indigo, you might have noticed that I never truly described what Simon looks like beyond small details of his person. Particular scars that were important to the story, what color his hair was, what clothes he was wearing--those were the only things I ever really described about his appearance, and even then, they were only written into the story when it was important to what was going on.

But, in actuality, Simon's appearance was incredibly important to Indigo. In fact, the entire premise relies on his fixation with his own appearance. But the way that I approached it wasn't from the visual standpoint, but rather his perception of himself, how his appearance made him and other people feel.

Is Simon ugly? Are his scars hideous? Are they so grotesque he should cover his face at all times? Or, even, abstain from love at all costs?

I don't know. I don't care what he looks like. But that's what Simon believes himself to be, that's how he feels, and that defines his perception of the entire world, regardless of what the true visuals of his story actually are.

That's partially why I like the emotional type of writing instead of just visual description, because it doesn't really rely on any objective truth to convey a message. That....and I honestly just don't think about how things look that much lmao

Like, once a friend of mine asked me what my ideal boyfriend looked like and I legit couldn't answer her. Because like??? I don't have an ideal man. I've dated men from all different backgrounds, different heights, different weights, different styles---I just don't really care about someone's body. I care about the feeling they evoke in me.

Texas Red is a bit of a different game though, and there's a story reason for that. Basically, the basis of Jinx and Simon's relationship is physical attraction. It's not emotional in the beginning. Jinx feels weird about Simon, not because he's nice to her, but because she thinks he's hot lmao

All in all, I think I prioritize the emotional experience of it above all else, and that's about the only defining characteristic I can commit to when it comes to my writing lmao

So in yet another edition of "mandy hacks together an overcomplicated solution to what should be a fairly easy problem in an art project"

i needed to do a simple animation where a color gradually changes to a different color and it has to happen across 9 frames.

Simple enough right? This is the type of "challenge" that has been figured out since basically the bronze age. Well, i seem to have misplaced that knowledge somewhere between the invasion of the sea peoples and the burning of alexandria. I had no idea how to do it.

First response that comes to mind is to do it in premiere. Surely there is a very basic tool for that, some preset effect that is just a matter of dragging and dropping on the timeline and play around with some keyframes or whatever.

Well first of all i dont trust premiere like that. There is a very specific area that i want to apply the effect to and playing around with chroma has left me very dissilutioned when it comes to premieres capacity to select one specific color to be affected, so no thanks. Also i just dont feel like googling some janky ass tutorial that takes five minutes of video to explain something that only takes ten seconds to say.

So its going to have to be the old fashioned way. The manual way, the frame by frame way. It will fall to me to pick 9 different tones that are the perfect intermediaries between the two colors i want to transition between.

Problem is how can i make sure to choose the precise 9 tones i need with the fiddly little color picker offered by clip studio and the shaky precision of my mouse and my eyes?

Thats when i remembered that colors are actually math. I just have to look at the rgb values of both colors and calculate mathematically the nine equidistant positions from one set of values to the other.

Easy peasy right

Problem is each rgb value is three numbers, and at nine values per number i have to calculate 27 numbers, and then i have to do that three more times because in my infinite wisdom i decided this animation neede 4 color transotions for a total of 108 numbers i have to calculate.

Bjt then i remembered im not just am artist, im also a Nerd! So who came to my rescue in my time of need?

who else could it be?

So i just had to do a very simple formula:

Cell with starting rgb number = A

Cell with target rgb number = B

A+(((B-A)/10)*1)

(The 1 there increases with every subsequent cell)

And then voila!

Then is just a matter of entering it frame by frame on the color picker...

And done.

Youll be able to see the results in a couple of weeks

Bofur: modern music (especially pop songs with dirty lyrics), Tumblr (is no. 1 shit-poster), music festivals, arts&crafts blogs, Christopher's Streets Day

Bifur: Google Translate, Modern Medicine, Pain Medication, ASL, RomComs (trust me), helps out in an animal shelter, country music

Ori: Wikipedia, public libraries, tutorials for EVERYTHING (knitting, cutting your own hair, how to talk to royalty, fancy war cries, you name it), fantasy novels, public schools

Bilbo: Food blogs, the "ignore call"-button, Instagram, university (will mayor in at least three subjects), museums

Gandalf: the Internet as a whole, email/ instant messaging, yard sales, modern weed, museums (has a knack for finding cursed items), adventure movies (after watching Indiana Jones he seriously debated obtaining a whip)

festival plaza was never meant to be used permanently offline the way that i’ve been using it and that comes with some really weird quirks.

without internet services, it’s still possible to grind Festival Coins and rank up because stand-in tutorial NPCs refresh themselves multiple times a day and you get 11/23 FC from talking to each of them depending on whether you’re recommending them to a shop or answering a question. i’ve been doing this multiple times a day during my play sessions basically since i started my ultra moon file. these guys:

that being said, i almost permanently ruined it because i opened kiki’s old pokemon sun file to check something on another 3ds while my ultra moon was open, and out of curiosity i checked her profile in festival plaza and everything, only to realize shortly after that her NPC was stuck there and the tutorial NPCs weren’t coming back. i did some panic googling and lo and behold, if you ever connect to anyone else in festival plaza at all, even while offline, the tutorial NPCs stop refreshing. permanently. because they expect you to use online features that aren’t there anymore!

thankfully i had saved recently but not after interacting with kiki so i was able to reset my game and my festival plaza was back to normal. but now i know if i want to do trade evolutions i’m going to have to do it between two other sm/usum files if i want to keep my tutorial NPCs, which is annoying.

i did start an ultra sun playthrough and i’m thinking in the future i may willingly give up my tutorial NPCs because instead of grinding FC off of them, with two 3dses and two files i can realistically grind the Battle Agency on my own, which is fun (i attempt it everyday already even though i’m at a massive disadvantage playing solo) and it also rewards mountains of FC. i also expect to want to lose my tutorial NPCs eventually when pretendo network eventually supports USUM for the common layperson since it would be nice to trade and battle with friends. i would also like to get 5 star rare kitchen facilities that aren’t hacked in lol… q-q (my 2 rare kitchens are literally the only save edit i have ever made to my file and my friends convinced me to do it because they were so easy to get when online services were around. they’re ultra sun exclusive)

oh and i want to be able to ditch some of my facilities too! i have some around mostly so i can fulfill every type of NPC request but i’d like to restructure things in the future… right now i do have some pretty cool stuff though

the 5 star team blue used to be a 4 star big dreams lottery, but i wanted the 5 star dye house exclusive bright blue color, so i begrudgingly temporarily gave it up. i will likely replace the team blue with something else again in the future (i’ve been keeping navy blue because it has my favorite colors and whenever online comes back i can give the facility to people, which is nice)

i actually really like festival plaza and wish i could be using it in its hayday! the missions are pretty much totally inaccessible to me and apparently they made earning FC a lot easier too lol

as a Zelda Expert what game would you recommend for someone just getting into the series?

OCARINA OF TIME. oot is considered the best of zelda for a reason. it's a GREAT introduction to the classic mechanics and story elements of zelda but has a somewhat more modern feel than some of the older 2d games. The only thing i will say is that if you're not used to the general vibe of pre-2000s video games I would recommend using a walkthrough, especially for certain dungeons, as it still operates the way old games did, with relatively little guiding or tutorials. If you're willing to figure it out yourself it can also be really rewarding, but it can get frustrating for someone who's used to a more modern style of gameplay so there's no shame in walkthroughs when needed (ESPECIALLY the water temple. ive played the game 5 times and only done the water temple sans walkthrough once. just google it trust me.) it's also one of the easiest games to access--you can easily buy a secondhand 3ds cartridge for under $30, or pirate it onto a hacked 3ds or wii (I would not recommend emulation unless you have a really reliable n64 emulator. the most common 3ds emulators won't run the remaster properly.) or you could use the virtual console version on the switch ($50 subscription, not recommended unless you don't have any other available method.)

Shaders!

How did you get into making shaders? I've done a lot of modeling and texturing, and while I've hacked together code for other things, I've never tried making shaders and it seems like something that would be really fun. I'd love to know how to get started making things like your raymarching shader. Do you do it within your modeling program or in an engine like unity/unreal? My modeling program of choice is 3ds max and I am not exactly sure if it supports making custom shaders

i think at some point i was just like, i wanna make cool sparkly rocks!!! so i slowly taught myself to make shaders in unity (since i was already learning unity for school). nowadays unity and most other programs have node-based shaders, which work just as well, but i find myself being a lot faster and more organized with just writing them in hlsl (the shader language unity uses)!!

a lot of the things i learn just end up as a result of little journeys - raymarching is a great example, i learned about it by watching a bunch of graphics gdc talks, and stumbled on it in a talk on how they rendered clouds in horizon zero dawn. i cant seem to find the talk it might be vaulted but this paper goes over basically everything from the talk. so i just started implementing the things from the talk!! or at least thats what i wanted to do. i got very stuck very fast and although i looked up a bunch of different tutorials on raymarching, i couldnt crack through it

so i took a break!! until a year later when i knew more and was like, i wanna try again! so i did and that time i got it working. this was my first little raymarching shader :)

anyways hope this helps a bit.. hard to put into words Exactly how i learned but it was mostly just, looking up resources online of cool things i wanted to do, googling whenever i got stuck, putting it down when i hit walls and tried again later, etc... lots of experimenting and failing and trying again !!!!

Hi, I just got into tech (actually 1 year in but I still feel like I don't know anything).

I learnt python, R, SQL, Tableau and concepts in Data Structures, Algorithms.

But I can't write my own programs on python or create anything.

I was hella impressed by your microprocessor project, and when I took up tech (ai and data science) I assumed I would do something like that or at least code.

Now, I am just venting but where do I start, how do I make projects what are some interesting projects, what should I learn? A lot of my seniors tell me to have a wide range of knowledge like focus on one thing by depth but add other things. For example: you can study data analytics in depth but have some knowledge in ethical hacking and web development etc. Like an all rounder.

Lots of places recommend that you start with Arduino, as there are a lot of good tutorials out there. I somewhat disagree

I think that raspberry pi is better because it's usually a lot cheaper to buy the stuff you want to play around with

But an even cooler way to do it, go to wokwi.com and start a project on a Raspberry Pi Pico (make sure it's the micropython version) and then you can get started there

Google something like "Blink led with Pi Pico micropython" and there will be a tutorial or two

Then, once you've played around for a while you can buy a Pi Pico for very little money and see your stuff work irl!

And 100% It is deceptively approachable but also time consuming, I'm familiar enough with html from a highschool class where we did need to write code out by hand, and then soft practice with coding toyhou.se profiles and futzing around with free code snippets. Largely though I don't think you need to know everything or to write everything by hand, you just need to frankenstein code pieces together (As long as they're free ofc).

I used this first, it's fucking insanely handy and lets you make a simple layout with sidebars, navigation, header, footer and a body base ect, and then just generate and copy the code. The html itself also has greyed out little notes about what parts do what!

I'll be real the rest of it after that is just me googling what I want to do or googling html snippets bc I forgot them. So like html image link with size attributes ect ect, how to make a html image gallery. I don't use one site exclusively but w3schools.com has a bunch of common ones and also has a little live code editor in its tutorials.

Like I still get greatly stumped for hours bc code's kinda sensitive and one or two characters out of place will break sections of it especially when ur just frankensteining. Trying out little segments in live code editors is really helpful because you can kinda break it apart and diagnose the issue before putting it into your site html.

Also if it helps this is kind of how I break it down in my brain as another ADHD-er. so fuckign sorry for how this looks im doing it in snipping tool. But code bits love to live in cages even if it all looks the same, iit would also help if you clean your code up mine is pretty horrid but you just want to familiarize yourself with the little "Sections" ig that's where doing things by hand would help because you would 100% know what each chunk is for but yk yk.

CSS is a different beast I barely understand. The parts of code where it starts stacking on top instead of being horizontal is css and it's basically how you do fancier things to your code, it's linked to stuff you already have down. So like changing the background in the body text box or something, you can only do so much in there. Css targetting the body text box is where you can level it up. Again the sadgrl layout builder has notes so you're not completely blind in there. There's also 100% so many resources to explain what all these words mean, my mmethod is incredibly avoidant I don't know what flex is I haven't needed to fight her yet ect ect.

Sorry if this is confusing this is just my hack and slash understanding atm. Be humbled by code I've spent too long trying to fix up hysterical margin issues just because I had a random apostrophe somewhere or because I tried to spell it colour and not color ect.
