I've always wondered if Sam Vimes' hardboiled egg was a reference to the Marx Brothers' hardboiled egg(s) in, I think, A Night At The Opera. Or maybe they're both references to something else. Or maybe they're just hardboiled eggs. But I've always wondered.

could u enlighten me on how to hard boil an egg? mine always end up either waaaaay overdone (green yolks) or not done enough (goopy yolks)

Pick your egg size deliberately. Medium-sized eggs are smaller and need less cook time. Large eggs need more cook time, 'cause there's more egg in there.

Fill a pot with enough water that the eggs will be completely submerged when placed in, but will not overflow the water. This amount of water will change with the size of the pot.

Put the heat up to Medium-High Get the water at a rolling boil before you put any eggs in. This means the water is churning with bubbles.

Only put enough eggs into the water, that they are not stacked. You don't want the eggs piled on each other & unable to swirl themselves around in the water.

Once you put your eggs in, set a timer. 10 minutes for medium-sized eggs, and 12 minutes for large eggs.

While they're cooking, get a big bowl of cold water ready, and put some ice in there for good measure.

When the timer goes off, remove the eggs and immediately put them into the ice bath

This should result in perfectly hard-boiled eggs.

FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY! The timing is important. The order is important. The egg size is important. Not overpacking the eggs into the pot is important. The heat is important.

Green yolks aren't harmful, and can be eaten. It's just aesthetically not as pretty =\

As a rather new tumblr member I am still astonished which kinds of days this community commemorates/celebrates/comes up with. You learn something new along the way.

Even though I am an avid reader I haven´t peeked into one of these books yet (but I have heard about them), which might have to change in the future. And since I am always up for broadening my horizon and getting to know new authors and their work(s) both books are coming on my TBR-list. I just have to answer the question in which language I want to read them (first). Might start with german, since its my mother tongue. 🤔

Anyways to all who happen to have a special place in their hearts and minds for the may 25th: Have a good one! 🪻💜🥚

cant find the post and dont feel like looking for it so i'm just starting a new one

i had my first final exam earlier this morning and i think it went pretty well?? fingers crossed. that class is now completely done, so i can put it on the shelf in my head next to technical english labeled "never have to think about this again probably"

i have sequestered myself on one of the top floors of the library (quiet, big tables) to force myself to work on the last lab report for physics, and i'm going to try to get that done, written and turned in today. so if you see me on here reblogging a bunch of posts in a row for like, half an hour straight, feel free to (gently) bully me back to work so i can also be done with that class and put it on the "never have to think about this again probably" shelf

i'll be trying to keep an eye on the time, but -points at the ADHD time blindness- that sometimes gets away from me
