Heart of the Memverse, Veins of Order.

TASK M4NAGER!

(…name is a wip. Read its lore below the cut.)

Task M4nager came about from the ambitions of two differing entities. The conquest for Order and an unchanging world, coupled with the need for validation, the want to be acknowledged for SOMETHING by both their peers and their lovers.

But Four got a lot more than what he was bargaining for, that’s for sure.

Task M4nager is, in essence, the worst parts of Ramiel combined with the personality of Order merged to make one being. A scorned and slighted dictator, rejected by everyone.

But it wasn’t always like this.

TM was originally created by Marina as a sort of automated admin panel, able to keep the Memverse up and running without the constant need for organic oversight. TM was in charge of almost everything from the nodes, to the Spire, to even the things that spawn within and so on.

It also acted as a security system, preventing malicious viruses from entering and damaging the code. And it was *supposed* to prevent the exact circumstances that resulted in Order’s manifestation.

But it didn’t do that, did it? This failure in logic resulted in TM completely crashing and becoming basically inoperable.

You would think this would be a good thing for Order, but no actually. Despite its overriding of the system, TM was still above it in the hierarchy. And if TM hasn’t operated in a while, the Memverse’s code will start to rot and tear itself apart. The solution to this plight? The consciousness of a living being. With that, there would be no error since TM is now, well, alive.

The MV however, wasn’t open to the public yet. So Order couldn’t just pluck a random sanatized octo or something for it. But there was….a few beta testers.

Eight/Hephaeus, Acht, Pearl and…

Ramiel. Agent 4.

Out of all the potential choices, Ramiel was the most mentally malleable. See, over the past few months, he had been feeling more and more overshadowed. I mean, how could he not? Artemisa, Hephaeus, and Neo 3 had all basically saved the entire world at one point in their lives. What had Ram even done compared to that? Save a stupid glorified catfish? Hell, he didn’t even save Callie, MARIE was the one to shoot those shades off and bring her to her senses. He felt so….inadequate compared to everyone else. And it ate away at his ego, badly.

Because the MV kept tabs on its users mental states at all times, Order knew this all.

One day while Ram was finishing up recording his combat data for use in the Parallel Canons, Order came to him with a proposition.

That if he joined its cause, he would have everything he ever wanted. Recognition…

Ramiel, not in the best mental headspace, and not really knowing what he was getting himself into exactly, took it up on its offer.

Ram proceeded to have his little squid soul ripped from his physical body and transported into the Memverse, where it was planted into TM.

And thus, Task M4nager was born.

How do you think Azkaban works? Do they have extremely depressed house elves making the food for the prisoners? Or do the prisoners themselves have a work rota of cooking and cleaning more or less like muggle prisons? Are the dementors the only wardens, can they ID prisoners in any functional way? Or are there wizards there in admin roles?

Is there a very precarious courtyard gym? Was Lucius Malfoy breaking rocks and getting a stick-and-poke tattoo from one of the Carrows? How do visits work? Are they allowed conjugal visits? Do you think true crime girlies tried to pull that when Sirius was taken in?

Are all the cells the same? Or are maximum security cases like Sirius and Bellatrix kept in isolation, where petty thieves and magic carpet smugglers may bunk together?

Food and Labour:

I don’t think the prisoners are cooking or cleaning. The whole point of Azkaban is total hopelessness. Giving prisoners tasks; even dull ones ) could provide structure, which might, god forbid, foster a sense of purpose. Can’t have that- especially as they see insanity as the ultimate punishment. I have a meta about it here

I doubt there are house-elves either.

More likely: the Ministry sends rations to the island — probably magically-preserved sludge that just about keeps people alive. I HC there’s some kind of automated spellwork in the kitchen areas that portions things out so the dementors can deliver it ( dementoroo), designed to serve food that is technically edible, but so soul-crushing it actively hastens psychological collapse.

Wardens and Administration:

Before the post war reforms the Dementors are the primary “guards.”

Can they ID prisoners? Not conventionally. They don’t see with eyes; they feel. (According to Sirius). They can probably distinguish prisoners based on emotional “flavour” the way a sommelier can tell you which vineyard a wine came from.

That said, I refuse to believe even the Ministry would let literal soul-eating wraiths handle all logistics. There must be a handful of extremely unfortunate Ministry workers assigned to admin roles: transporting prisoners, recording deaths, updating rolls. Also who is doing the photoshoots that meant there was a fresh pic of Sirius on hand when he escaped.

Exercise and Recreation

There is absolutely no courtyard gym. None. No Lucius Malfoy doing squats while Crabbe Sr. counts reps.

Exercise is hope. Exercise is self-care and good mental health. Azkaban’s entire ethos is the annihilation of self. I doubt prisoners even get fresh air breaks.

Visits and Conjugal Rights:

Absolutely not. Can you imagine your happiest memory would getting ripped out of your body mid-shag?

Visits would be restricted to extremely rare, Ministry-sanctioned events: trial appeals, re-sentencing, possibly posthumous identification (“Is this the body of your husband? Sign here.”)

As for true crime girlies thirsting over prisoners? Oh, 1000%. Sirius Black would have had deranged fanmail - see end of this for both my fic about his fanmail and my script for a podcast about him. No one would be allowed to visit, but there would be a pile of owl-delivered “you don’t know the real him” letters mouldering in a Ministry mailroom somewhere.

I wanna preface this by saying that I am such a pathetic minecraft player 💀 I always spend my first day getting a bed and a bunch of flowers and other pretty stuff (do NOT allow me near lush caves) and looking for some field to settle on and end up with an inventory full of junk, then if I manage to find a satisfactory enough place I settle down there and all and FINALLY get my first piece of stone. And then I get jumpscared by those naturally spawning pillagers or smth and. Go on peaceful mode in a panic. But then nothing feels threatening anymore and I go back to easy and I continue my life and all and then I get bored 💔

What I’m trying to say is that whatever my Minecraft… strategy is, it’s probably similar to what Dazai would do too /hj Except the peaceful part because he doesn’t have that kind of power 🙄 Chuuya’s the admin 🙄🙄 And he also definitely doesn’t care about dying in-game and losing his stuff either.

I honestly really think Chuuya would be a builder? Somehow? I think he’d get too aggressive to ever be good at PVP bc he’d get mad he always hits while jumping instead of while falling from the jump, and so he wouldn’t be able to land critical hits and would just angrily spam the right click button 😭 But he refuses to play on anything lower than hard mode because he’s ‘not a coward’. And he probably has some weird goal like killing a creeper before it explodes, without backing away at all which means he’s also not really… All that skilled at fighting mobs, either.

But he’d probably find building really relaxing. I can’t justify this, it’s just vibes 😔 Though I believe he likes switching it up and wouldn’t keep bases consistent at all. He’d probably like mining too maybe bc it’s a nice alternation between being dull and mindless enough to get his mind off things, and being genuinely exciting.

I’m not sure how much he’d get redstone because that is very complex in a hard-to-understand way, but at the same time, Chuuya is canonically really good at physics, so I’m not particularly sure how much of a challenge it would be. He probably wouldn’t like it either way because it’s too needlessly complex and looks ugly most of the time 💔

Honestly, Dazai and Chuuya playing MC is so stereotypical “playing Minecraft with my girlfriend” memes coded. The ‘boyfriend’ actually does stuff and tries to reach a goal (probably killing the Ender Dragon) while the ‘girlfriend’ is just frolicking around and giving him stacks of flowers and dying in lava with the bf’s diamonds in her inventory.

On a more serious note, Dazai would probably be really good at redstone, and so Chuuya tasks him with automating their farms and stuff. And I also think he understands the game mechanics better in general, which then makes him pretty decent at fighting mobs and gathering resources, though he wouldn’t be good at PVP because he’s too methodical and slow with it. Mining specifically I think would really bore him, and he wouldn’t take building seriously at all and would live in a dirt house/take over a villager’s house at most if he wasn’t playing with Chuuya 💀

So I think the new egg system, from what I've seen of it, makes a lot more sense and resolves issues the old one had.

The worst part of the old system was that Egg Tasks were often very role-play oriented and required both a player and the egg to be online and to take part in a prolonged activity. Sometimes this was simple enough, other times it was complicated (like running a dungeon, preparing a meal together, telling a story, etc.). Also, egg tasks and the marking of their completion was therefore not autonomous. Admins had to be on top of doing this and completion was subjective.

The new system, from what it appears to be, automates things and makes things easier. Utilizing a "hand-in" system (not unlike Purgatory which I think was a test for this on a system level), players merely have to gather things (you know, the thing you do in Minecraft) and hand them in for the cookies. Eggs do not even have to necessarily be online for this. Once they are awake, they can simply be fed the cookies and it resolves their meter for the week.

This means no longer are we going to see players stressed that admins can't log in to do lengthy tasks. We may even see a situation where one admin logs in briefly as an egg merely to eat their cookies and then go back to sleep. Specific admins that know how to RP as certain eggs can come on when time allows, but are no longer stressed out that they need to be on for several hours at a time as their parent to complete lengthy specific tasks.

This means the "hanging out" aspect of the egg/parent relationship is more relaxed and RP-driven, and the task-oriented part to keep them alive is more about resource gathering and the players making sure to continue to gather and find materials. Additionally, the eggs can take part in this if they want, it's just not required.

from what i can tell the mini-mes aren't admin controlled, they seem more like they have some kind of mob ai. havent been watching tina today (chronic foosh watcher) so idk if shes like playing more into the rp side of it but i doubt they'll be like super intrusive, i dont really think all is lost (even then i personally find i dont mind the eggs, obviously if the rp stuff isnt your cup of tea its whatever but to me they just feel like other players a lot of the time. but idk thats just where im at after also having been forced to adapt to this server over the months as a doozer, just trying to give some hope lol👍)

Yeah I mean I hope so as well but I think the eggs were also a lot more stiff in the beginning and I feel like there’s precedent for characters starting off as automated and then getting an admin to do rp stuff later. I don’t like the rp stuff especially because I felt like they would interrupt the flow of building (or socializing with other players!) To go towards the very structured tasks which could be frustrating I was watching foolish in the beginning and everyone would always joke an egg task that would take vegetta 30 min took foolish several hours because he would get sidetracked and that’s how Tina operates as well. I really enjoyed late nights where Tina was just hanging out with bad or building talking to chat I hope that still happens with a more structured (in my opinion forced) story beat
