i really appreciate this about brennan, he's very straight forward when it comes to competitions (see his rant regarding the whishy washy point system for Make Some Noise). cooking competitions, in particular, can be extremely subjective, but brennan goes ahead and says 'no fuck that, i'm making this objective AF. the pathologic Kin is largely fictionalized with a created language that takes from multiple sources to be its own, a cosmogony & spirituality that does not correlate to the faiths (mostly Tengrist & Buddhist) practiced by the peoples it takes inspirations from, has customs, mores and roles invented for the purposes of the game, and even just a style of dress that does not resemble any of these peoples', but it is fascinating looking into specifically to me the sigils and see where they come from... watch this:

P2 Layers glyphs take from the mongolian script:

while the in-game words for Blood, Bones and Nerves are mongolian directly, it is interesting to note that their glyphs do not have a phonetic affiliation to the words (ex. the "Yas" layer of Bones having for glyph the equivalent of the letter F, the "Medrel" layer of Nerves having a glyph the equivalent of the letter È,...)

the leatherworks on the Kayura models', with their uses of angles and extending lines, remind me of the Phags Pa Script (used for Tibetan, Mongolian, Chineses, Uyghur language, and others)

some of the sigils also look either in part or fully inspired by Phags Pa script letters...

some look closer to the mongolian or vagindra (buryat) script

looking at the Herb Brides & their concept art, we can see bodypainting that looks like vertical buryat or mongolian script (oh hi (crossed out: Mark) Phags Pa script):

I love malachi but he an absolute hoe for that. Lolol don't worry! He's only a hoe when readers around; it's the insecurity in him, wants to know he's loved. But for sho, a bitch boy move. When readers not there and he's approached any other time, the other person would be lucky to only get a sneer of disgust. If they're not so lucky, and malachis in a particularly sour mood, he might begin classic mean girl bullying type shit by just spouting reasons why he would never go out with a low life like them, that they could never compare to the fucking godsend he has waiting for him at home. Just the idea pisses him off, and unfortunately reader might get the brunt of this behavior when he comes home less than happy.

Yan gangster you say? Well, his reaction definitely depends. On a good day he might just walk away, uninterested and a little annoyed, swatting the interested party like a fly. If they keep pressing though, he's no stranger to violence, whether it be a harsh shove to scare them off, or an uppercut to the chin to prove a statement. I think, he wants to show reader that there's no one else; he's not trying to scare them, but he wants them to know that there's not going to be anyone between them, whether someone's interested in him or reader. He won't let an inkling of the idea cross his path.

One thing that, being a trans individual, annoys me is that if-

You are agender you HAVE to either be completely androgynous, or feminine androgynous. There's no such thing as masculine androgynous.

If you are trans male you HAVE to look masculine. You can't look feminine in anyway/ enjoy feminine stuff.

If you are a trans woman, you HAVE to look feminine and girly. You can't look masculine/ enjoy manly things.

You don't have to fit into a stereotype to be what you are. You can be a man and still like makeup. You can be a woman and still like playing football with the guys. You can be androgynous and still present a different gender appearance.

though i'm realizing more and more that the thing that bothers me about this kind of new adult fantasy book is that it wants you to believe the worldbuilding is deep and interesting, but it is almost certainly always built on aesthetics rather than serving the story or setting. the thing about fantasy is that you don't need to explain everything, but you should have an idea of how it works, logically.

i think every day about how e.arthsea has a clearly defined magic system, and that magic touches everyone at every level across the entire world. you see how it affects all the different cultures we encounter but we're only ever approaching it from the main characters' perspectives, which is almost always skewed by how magic functions in their part of the world. there is still a lot that isn't explained until later books, or even at all, and it feels both coherent and mysterious. it can be haunting; it can take the most powerful characters by surprise.

i think every day about how my first time through the f.arseer trilogy, i didn't even clock the two kinds of magic as magic: they were so seamlessly integrated into the narrator's story that it was just a fact of the world for me. we learn about the mysteries of both as fitz does, and the full consequences of using both are explored.

you don't have to tell us everything, you don't have to take either of these approaches. but if you want your worldbuilding to be engaging you need to know how it fucking works, and most importantly, you need to respect the setting you're in fully. sometimes that means understanding boring stuff like the economy. like language. like what does and doesn't exist based on climate or culture. that's really important too. commit. commit!!! give into the cringe of high fantasy and all the downsides of an imperfect world that punishes not only the bad guys, but the heroes as well. i dare you

I think the biggest reason I'm so drawn to Connor is because I get him. From being socially awkward to struggling with understanding your own human emotions. Sometimes I kind of feel empty, I don't eat, I don't sleep, I don't think, I don't consider right and wrong— I just exist, like a machine (this is why I relate to I Am Machine by Three Days Grace). A machine that sometimes gets a plethora of human emotions and tries to make sense of them, as confusing as it is.

Idk, it's weird, but his deviant route just means a lot to me.

accidentally came across a youtube short that was like "travelling with the person who thinks they're better than everyone else" from someone travelling to Milan and the crimes this very pretentious and mean person committed were like:

- trying to speak italian a little bit

- trying out local food instead of having the same food they could have at home

- asking the people who were with them to not yell in church

- saying that they found how everyone was looking at their phone taking selfies for instagram instead of around a bit sad

And what I want to say to the person who made this video is you're goddamn right. That person you're making fun of is horrible. But the thing is everyone in italy is like that! That's right! Everyone here is a big meanie just like that. You should never come here again in fact you should stay the fuck home forever and exhort everyone like you to do the same. You all are too nice and fun and cool to put up with us big meanies who ruin your fun by demanding a basic level of curiosity and cultural respect by visitors. Please spend the rest of your life in Idaho or wherever other bit of stolen land it is and never let anything challenge your idea that you are the protagonist of the world and the only reason why someone might not want to hear you squawk loudly like a chicken while you discuss how Kyle like, totally liked Jennifer's selfie in the middle of a church is because they are all big pretentious meanies. stay home girl.
