how would zandik court us during his akadeymia days (if he even did) ?
I can imagine him as a gift giver of very..interesting items.
animal bones, rocks, shiny things (crow reference)

Zandik had never been one for conventionality. Not in his research, not in his theories, and certainly not in his interactions with others. So when he found himself drawn to you—one of the few students who did not shy away from his reputation—it was only natural that his approach to courtship would be just as unorthodox.
It started small. A peculiar bone, bleached white and smooth to the touch, left on your desk in the library without a note. You had eyed it warily at first, unsure if it was an elaborate prank, but when you turned to glance around the room, you caught a glimpse of familiar red eyes watching from the shelves before vanishing behind a row of books.
You had known Zandik was strange, but this? This was new.
Then came the polished stones—obsidian, quartz, even a rare piece of lapis lazuli. They were always left in places only you would find them: tucked between the pages of a book you were reading, slipped into the pocket of your satchel, or even balanced precariously on the edge of your notes.
There was never a word exchanged about them, but each time you discovered one, a warm sort of amusement bubbled in your chest. If Zandik was the one leaving them, he certainly had a strange way of showing interest.
But the gifts didn’t stop there. The next offering was a preserved butterfly, its delicate wings intact and shimmering with iridescent blues and purples. The craftsmanship of the preservation was exquisite, and as you turned it over in your hands, you felt a presence behind you. You didn’t need to look to know who it was.
“You have a habit of collecting things,” you mused, tilting your head as you examined the butterfly. “Do you leave these for anyone else?”
Zandik, standing just close enough that you could feel the heat of his presence, scoffed. “Do you think I waste my time on just anyone?”
That was the first time you realized the true intent behind his offerings. And, surprisingly, you didn’t mind.
Zandik was a man of science, but he was also a man of obsession. When something caught his attention, he pursued it relentlessly.
(Un)fortunately for you, that ‘something’ had become you.
The gifts escalated in frequency and peculiarity.
A small vial of shimmering liquid that, when shaken, separated into two mesmerizing colors.
A perfectly intact bird skull, cleaned with meticulous precision.
A bundle of dried herbs tied together with twine, their scent strong and earthy.
You had long since given up on questioning the logic behind them, instead finding yourself intrigued by the sheer variety.
“You’re like a crow,” you teased one day, holding up a small gear that had been carefully wrapped in parchment. “Always leaving little trinkets.”
Zandik scoffed but did not deny it. Instead, he leaned forward, his sharp red eyes gleaming with something unreadable. “And yet, you’ve kept them all.”
You faltered for a moment before looking away. It was true—you had not discarded a single gift. Each one was carefully stored in a box beneath your desk, a silent acknowledgment of the strange ritual you had both fallen into.
“I suppose I find them interesting,” you admitted, rolling the gear between your fingers. “Like trying to solve a puzzle without knowing what the final picture looks like.”
Zandik’s lips quirked into something resembling a smirk. “Then allow me to continue providing the pieces.”
It wasn’t until he gifted you something truly personal that you realized just how deeply he had fallen into this peculiar form of courtship.
One evening, while you were buried in research, a shadow fell over your table. You looked up to find Zandik standing there, an object carefully wrapped in cloth resting in his outstretched hand. Unlike his usual offerings, he lingered, watching intently as you took it.
Curious, you unwrapped the fabric and blinked in surprise. Nestled in your palm was a meticulously crafted metal pendant, shaped like a stylized eye. It was unlike any of his previous gifts—this one held meaning beyond fascination.
This was something he had made himself.
You looked up at him, finding his usual smug confidence replaced by something almost expectant. As if, for once, your reaction truly mattered to him.
“…Thank you,” you said sincerely, closing your fingers around the pendant. “It’s beautiful.”
Zandik's expression didn’t change, but you swore you saw a flicker of satisfaction cross his face before he turned sharply on his heel.
“Good,” he called over his shoulder. “Then you’d best take care of it.”
It was after that moment that you finally acknowledged what had been growing between you. The unspoken understanding, the exchanged glances, the gifts that had turned from curiosities to treasures.
Zandik may not have been a man of romance in the traditional sense, but in his own twisted, brilliant way, he had found a method of courting you that was uniquely his. And, despite everything, you wouldn’t have had it any other way.

The gods don't care about the price tag on your tools
Whoever you work with, they're not going to mind if their offering dish is a paper plate, or one of your normal dinner plates. They're not going to care if you give them store bought food or home made. They're not going to care if all you do is say goodmorning and good night to them to say thank you, or if you give them a long complicated ritual every third day or whatever.
My offering dishes are an iridescent bowl I got at Kroger half off and a Costco tiramisu glass cup with an eight pointed star drawn on them in sharpie with a piece of packing tape covering it to keep it on. I was just thinking about trying to get inanna a tankard from the ren faire and I felt this overwhelming feeling of "no." Which was her. She told me that those are going to be out of my price range and then said that if there was anything she wanted, she'd let me know.
And she did! I went to the Ren Faire (this has been in my drafts a bit) and I felt her pulling me towards small things, like a lapis lazuli shaped like a moon that was a dollar (it was tiny). I love her so much.
But the main point of this post is to say that your deities Don care if you're giving them water and a granola bar, they're going to appreciate anything you give them. They know you're struggling. They don't mind.

Herod’s palace rose up like some Alhambra on slender columns iridescent with Moresque tiles, which appeared to be bedded in silver mortar and gold cement; arabesques started from lozenges of lapis lazuli to wind their way right across the cupolas, whose mother-of-pearl marquetry gleamed with rainbow lights and flashed with prismatic fires. The murder had been done; now the executioner stood impassive, his hands resting on the pommel of his long, bloodstained sword. The Saint’s decapitated head had left the charger where it lay on the flagstones and risen into the air, the eyes staring out from the livid face, the colourless lips parted, the crimson neck dripping tears of blood. A mosaic encircled the face, and also a halo of light whose rays darted out under the porticoes, emphasized the awful elevation of the head, and kindled a fire in the glassy eyeballs, which were fixed in what happened to be agonized concentration on the dancer. With a gesture of horror, Salome tries to thrust away the terrifying vision which holds her nailed to the spot, balanced on the tips of her toes, her eyes dilated, her right hand clawing convulsively at her throat. [...] The dreadful head glows eerily, bleeding all the while, so that clots of dark red form at the ends of hair and beard. Visible to Salome alone, it embraces in its sinister gaze neither Herodias, musing over the ultimate satisfaction of her hatred, nor the Tetrarch, who, bending forward a little with his hands on his knees, is still panting with emotion, maddened by the sight and smell of the woman’s naked body, steeped in musky scents, anointed with aromatic balms, impregnated with incense and myrrh. Like the old King, Des Esseintes invariably felt overwhelmed, subjugated, stunned when he looked at this dancing-girl, who was less majestic, less haughty, but more seductive than the Salome of the oil-painting. In the unfeeling and unpitying statue, in the innocent and deadly idol, the lusts and fears of common humanity had been awakened; the great lotus-blossom had disappeared, the goddess vanished; a hideous nightmare now held in its choking grip an entertainer, intoxicated by the whirling movement of the dance, a courtesan, petrified and hypnotized by terror. Here she was a true harlot, obedient to her passionate and cruel female temperament; here she came to life, more refined yet more savage, more hateful yet more exquisite than before; here she roused the sleeping senses of the male more powerfully, subjugated his will more surely with her charms – the charms of a great venereal flower, grown in a bed of sacrilege, reared in a hot-house of impiety.

The Cloak of Levitation visits the temple to bring a few stones it accidentally stole found in the Sanctum, including a pointy lapis lazuli, round piece of turquoise, and a pyramid-shaped, shiny obsidian. There's also a black, iridescent feather amongst the offerings. It just thinks it's pretty.
It's not too often he detects a mystical presence entering his temple, and is even more surprised to find a familiar... well. Not face.
"It has been some time since I have seen you unadorned." As though the human was the Cloak's accessory, not the other way around. Khonshu didn't care to keep track of the entity after returning it back to Earth, safe to assume that it had fallen back into the hands of sorcerers. Pity for it to escape an intergalactic shipping crate, only for it to be contained in one of those glass display cases, but that wasn't Khonshu's business.
It has gifts! The god observes the offerings placed at the foot of the temple's statue, making a pleased sound. "An offering," he doesn't-quite-ask, because he can feel the intention. And he has already accepted, picking up the feather first, observing how the colors shifted in the moonlight that filtered in from the temple's open ceiling.
"Hmm. I appreciate it."

Overview
Eleumenios is the Greek god of freedom, rebellion, and change, revered for his defiance against tyranny and his advocacy for the oppressed. Once a mortal noble who suffered greatly as a slave, Eleumenios' unwavering desire for freedom and justice led to his eventual apotheosis after his death in battle. As the divine embodiment of freedom, Eleumenios is a symbol of liberation, helping the oppressed and inspiring revolutions across the mortal realm. His mythological tales frequently emphasize his chaotic and unpredictable nature, as well as his willingness to sacrifice everything in the name of freedom.
Eleumenios is the herald and messenger of Dionysus, the god of wine, revelry, and chaos, whom Eleumenios was deeply devoted to during his mortal life. Known for his trickster-like qualities, Eleumenios is considered a liberating force for those shackled by physical, mental, or emotional bonds, though his methods can sometimes be radical and disruptive.
Appearance
Eleumenios is typically depicted as a youthful, radiant figure with a commanding yet approachable presence that reflects his dual nature as both a liberator and a trickster. His most striking feature is his two pairs of ethereal wings: one pair emerging gracefully from his temples, representing "freedom of thought," and another smaller pair sprouting from his ankles or feet, symbolizing "freedom of movement." These wings shimmer with a subtle luminescence, shifting between shades of indigo and deep yellow, evoking a sense of boundless energy and inspiration.
Eleumenios’ hair is a cascade of dark, short wavy locks, streaked with threads of shimmering indigo that seem to glow faintly in dim light. His eyes are described as piercing and bright, with an iridescent quality that mirrors the lapis lazuli associated with him, symbolizing his wisdom and unyielding resolve. His complexion is sun-kissed, reflecting his ties to the rustic and rebellious aspects of life.
He is often adorned in garments that blend practicality with symbolic elegance. A tunic of deep indigo, edged with golden thread, drapes over his form, accompanied by a short yellow cloak fastened by a brooch shaped like broken chains. Around his wrists and ankles, remnants of shattered manacles are sometimes depicted, a stark reminder of his mortal struggles and triumphs. These broken chains are often integrated into his accessories, such as a belt or arm cuffs, emphasizing his role as the Breaker of Chains.
Eleumenios is frequently shown holding a sword, its hilt crafted to resemble intertwining vines. In more peaceful depictions, he may carry a Freesia flower or a canary perched on his finger, underscoring his role as a harbinger of hope and renewal.
His presence is said to fill the air with a sense of possibility and rebellion, inspiring those around him to envision a life unbound by their circumstances.
Personality
As a god, Eleumenios is a free spirit, embodying the chaotic and unpredictable nature of liberty itself. He is known for his mischievous personality, often enjoying the disruption of rigid systems and the breaking of authority. Though he serves Dionysus loyally, Eleumenios' motivations are driven by a deep personal commitment to freedom and justice, rather than divine command.
Eleumenios is an advocate for those who are bound, whether physically, emotionally, or psychologically. He has a particular affinity for the oppressed, often aiding slaves, revolutionaries, and those who fight against tyranny. His chaotic nature, however, can sometimes cause unintended consequences. While he brings liberation, the consequences of his actions can be unpredictable, leading to both great victories and unforeseen chaos.
Though he stands as a champion of the oppressed, Eleumenios' wrath should be feared. He possesses the power to take away freedom just as easily as he grants it, and he is not above using radical or extreme methods to achieve his goals. As such, Eleumenios is a morally complex figure—while he is beloved by many for his liberation of the downtrodden, his unpredictable nature makes him a dangerous force to cross.
Quotes
"Freedom is not given; it is seized, wrested from the hands of those who seek to bind us.”
“The chains that shackle the body are nothing compared to the chains that bind the mind. It is those we must break first.”
“A kingdom built on oppression will crumble, for freedom lives in the hearts of those it seeks to enslave.”
“The world is always in flux, always changing. To resist that change is to resist life itself. Embrace the chaos; it will lead you to freedom.”
“A revolution does not begin with an army—it begins with the heart of a single soul who dares to dream of something better.”

GLOSSARY OF TERMS USED FOR NATIVE AMERICAN JEWELRY PART 2: L-Z
Here we continue our helpful glossary of terms commonly used in reference to Native American jewelry…
LAPIS LAZULI – also known as Lazurite, this deep blue (sometimes tending to indigo) semi-precious stone has been valued worldwide and is especially noted in ancient Egyptian archaeological finds. It is found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Siberia, Chile, Canada, and the USA.
MALACHITE – this semi-precious green variegated stone is a mineral carbonate of copper. Opaque and with green and black bands, its use dates to ancient Egypt and it was believed to hold magical powers. High-quality malachite is rather rare and the stone is found from Zaire to Russia, Europe to Australia, and in Arizona and New Mexico. It’s a popular addition to the Native American jewelry of the Southwest and is notably seen in inlaid Zuni pieces where it complements turquoise.
MATT – or matte refers to a non-reflective finish on silver and other metals.
MOTHER OF PEARL – derived from the interior surface of the mollusk shell, it is used in Zuni inlay jewelry and has a milky-white, pink, gray-blue, or grayish-silver appearance.
NAJA – this Navajo word refers to the crescent-shaped pendant suspended from squash blossom necklaces. It is also sometimes suspended from horse bridles.
NAVAJO – the largest US Native American Reservation, the Navajo Nation occupies land in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Also referred to as the Dine, these Native American people of the southwest are renowned for their weaving and silversmith work. Navajo jewelry tends to be distinctive for its embossing and the use of turquoise.
ONYX – a form of chalcedony quartz and usually black, this opaque, near-opaque, or translucent stone is popular in Zuni and Navajo jewelry. If the chalcedony is variegated, it is called agate.
OPAL – formed as silica from decomposing rocks that mixed with groundwater, most opal is between 50-65 million years old. It appears in an array of colors, from blue to green, white, pink, and black, with iridescent flashes of red, blue, yellow, and green.
OVERLAY – notable in Hopi jewelry designs, this silversmithing technique involves soldering two layers of silver together.
PENDANT – refers to a jewelry piece that is worn suspended from a necklace. They may also be worn as a pin or brooch in some cases.
QUARTZ – a crystalline mineral that is usually transparent when polished and available in an array of colors. Pure quartz is colorless.
SANDCAST – a technique whereby metal is cast in molds made of stone.
SANTO DOMINGO – a Native American Pueblo tribe renowned for their shell and turquoise heishi bead necklaces and traditional pottery making.
SHANK – refers to the part of a ring that encircles the finger.
SQUASH BLOSSOM – an traditional heirloom jewelry style of many native Americans (the Navajo in particular) and worn by women, young girls, medicine men, and chiefs, it features beads (usually silver) with “petals”.
STERLING SILVER – 92.5% silver combined with 7.5% copper for enhanced strength.
SPINY OYSTER – the orange sell of this marine creature has long been used in Naïve American jewelry, especially Zuni inlay work. The shell comes in shades from dark red-orange to yellowish and, like coral, is often set alongside Turquoise for a striking effect.
TUFA CASTING – metal is cast in molds made of porous rock created by volcanic ash.
TURQUOISE – a semi-precious stone made of phosphate of copper and aluminum. The Navajo are particularly renowned for their Native American Turquoise jewelry and the stone is also widely used by the Zuni in their distinctive inlay designs. Ranging from aqua-blue to green and even shades of yellow and white, turquoise is found in arid regions where copper is also abundant. One needs to be aware of whether turquoise is genuine/natural or chemically enhanced or stabilised.
ZUNI – Native American Pueblo peoples of western New Mexico. They are renowned for their silver and turquoise/jet/coral/ and other semi-precious inlay jewelry, beadwork, fetishes, pottery and basket weaving. https://indiantraders.com/blogs/news/glossary-of-terms-used-for-native-american-jewelry-part-2-l-z

[Image Description: two digital drawings of original Gems based off of Steven Universe.
1.) Phosphosiderite is slightly leaner than a Lapis Lazuli with a heart-shaped face and a plum and lavender palette. She has a drop-shaped gem on her chest with hair styled into conical buns and braided loops on either side of her head. Phosphosiderite is wearing a knee-length pinafore over a long-sleeved blouse with a sheer overskirt down to her ankles. She is looking down at her glowing hand with a thoughtful but very serious expression.

2.) Silica is a curvy gem with lean arms and a square-shaped face with a long, flat nose and a teal and mint palette. She has a short bob under a loose shawl draped around her head and shoulders over a long-sleeved dress. Her gem is on her navel. Silica has a kind expression.

The Timeless Elegance of Inlay Work Tables
Inlay work tables are a true testament to the fusion of art and functionality. These pieces of furniture are renowned for their intricate designs and the craftsmanship required to create them. If you're considering adding one of these tables to your home, here's an in-depth look at why they are so special:
1. What Are Inlay Work Tables?
Inlay work tables are furniture pieces where decorative patterns, designs, or images are embedded into the surface of the table, typically made of wood.
Materials such as metals, ivory, mother-of-pearl, semi-precious stones, or other natural elements are used for the inlay process, adding texture and beauty to the design.
2. A Historical Craft
The technique of inlay dates back centuries, with origins in ancient Egypt, Greece, and India.
In India, especially in Agra, artisans are highly respected for their exceptional inlay skills, often using semi-precious stones to create detailed and vibrant patterns.
Over time, the inlay process has evolved and spread across the world, adapting to different cultural and artistic influences.
3. Craftsmanship at Its Best
The process of creating an inlay work table is highly intricate and demands precise craftsmanship.
The materials are meticulously cut and fitted into grooves or cavities made in the table's surface.
Each piece is often handcrafted, ensuring that every table is unique in its design.
4. Variety of Materials Used
Inlay work is known for its use of a wide range of materials, each adding a unique dimension to the design:
Wood: Often the primary surface for inlay, providing a solid foundation for detailed patterns.
Mother-of-Pearl: This iridescent material adds a luminous, elegant touch to designs.
Metal: Brass or copper inlays can be used to create geometric or floral patterns.
Semi-precious Stones: Stones like lapis lazuli, onyx, jade, or turquoise are often used to bring color and vibrancy to the piece.
5. Popular Design Themes
Inlay work tables often feature designs inspired by nature, geometry, or cultural motifs:
Floral Patterns: Lush floral designs are common, bringing natural beauty to the table.
Geometric Shapes: Clean lines and symmetry offer a modern, balanced aesthetic.
Cultural Motifs: Especially in Indian inlay work, designs may include motifs from folklore or traditional symbols.
6. Why Choose an Inlay Work Table?
Aesthetic Appeal: The complexity of the designs and the contrast between materials create visually stunning pieces that catch the eye.
Unique and Timeless: Each inlay table is a one-of-a-kind creation, often passed down as heirlooms due to their beauty and durability.
Functional Art: These tables not only serve as functional furniture pieces but also as conversation starters and art pieces in the home.
Versatility: Inlay work tables can complement a range of interior styles—from classic and traditional to modern and eclectic.
7. Maintaining Inlay Work Tables
Cleaning: Gentle cleaning is essential to maintaining the delicate inlay patterns. Use a soft cloth and avoid harsh chemicals.
Avoiding Scratches: Since inlays often feature delicate materials like ivory or mother-of-pearl, it's important to handle the table carefully to avoid scratching the surface.
Polishing: Occasionally polishing the wood can help maintain its luster and protect the inlay work from wear.
8. A Worthwhile Investment
Inlay work tables are considered investments due to their intricate craftsmanship, beauty, and longevity.
High-quality inlay work can increase in value over time, especially if crafted by renowned artisans.
These tables not only enhance the aesthetic of your home but also hold cultural and historical significance.
Conclusion
Inlay work tables are more than just pieces of furniture; they are true works of art that add elegance, sophistication, and timeless beauty to any space. Their intricate craftsmanship and diverse materials make them a unique addition to any home, whether placed in a living room, study, or dining area.
