Finished my ouat rewatch and here's some thoughts:

— Everything in this show can be somehow traced back to Rumplestiltskin or Cora

— I hate the Stiltskins

— The SA in this show is very overlooked, wtf????

— Am I supposed to pretend Killian Jones was ever the villain of the story instead of the fucking Stiltskins??? (yes, Milah, I'm looking at you too, fucking abandoning your son because you hated Rumplestiltskin)

— I just fucking hate Neal, Baelfire was fine on season 1 and 2, but Neal is insufferable and I hate him sm

— I still hate how everyone acts like adoption means nothing in this show until the mid season of season 3, when the show runners actually decided to give Regina a redemption arc (without really committing to it, since she only experiences pain)

— Rumbelle is the worst ship ever, how did I ever ship it??

— Killian Jones actually saved this show from being cancelled and I'm not even joking, Colin O'Donoghue I love you

— Why did Cora have a "happy ending" going to heaven????

— Graham should've haunted the narrative the way they tried to force Baelfire to, they didn't have to bring the actor to do so

— Fuck the love triangle, I need Mulan, Aurora and Phillip to be a throuple, omg????

— Peter Pan is hands down the best antagonist in this show and I fucking adore how they didn't even tried to redeem him, they just made him a horrible person and killed him, that's so awesome, I feel like –and I know this will sound hypocrite since out of my top 4 characters from the show, 2 of them are redeemed villains– with ouat we're always discovering some history that makes the villain understandable, makes us feel sorry for them, but at least for me with Pan it was never an option, it actually made me feel sorry for Rumplestiltskin and some other characters I personally dislike

— I can't pin point what's bothering me about outlaw queen, it's probably the whole Zelena getting pregnant with Robin's baby, it's very fucked up and she actually gets what she wanted from the beginning, even though Regina and Robin stay together, she's there, haunting the narrative

— Since Neverland until Frozen, the show was just perfect, I wish it ended with Robin telling Regina he chooses her, but I also love LOVE >adore< seeing Belle banishing Rumplestiltskin out of Storybrooke, I adore the ships from this period, I adore almost all the plotlines, I'll fight anyone who says shit about the Frozen arc

— I do actually like the Heroes and Villains episode thing, bandit!Regina sacrificing herself for Henry even without remembering being his mother is peak to me

— I still adore capitain swan

— I hated Blue the first time I watched it and I still do

— The gaslighting in season 5???? Fuck Adam and Eddie, wtf man, I was ready to lose Killian, I wasn't ready to see Regina yet again lose her true love

— Season 6 is a season that exists, I'm not gonna even try to explain how disturbed the whole Gideon storyline made me

— Season 7 isn't as bad as people make out to be, people are just mad Emma wasn't there

— Detective Rogers/Nook/Wish Hook is FUCKING PERFECT??? OMG his whole plotline with Alice and Gothel, the whole thing with him trying to usurp Killian's place and then finding out he was about to be a father is special to me, ok?

— ROGERS AND WEAVER!!!!!! That scene where Wish Hook thanks our Rumple back in the EF before the curse for what he did for Alice, and Rumple asks "the pirate and the crocodile friends?" or something like that, it's SO PRECIOUS, I wish Rumplestiltskin had been like that the whole time after he sacrificed himself at the end of 3A

— Did I mention how much I adore Detective Rogers/Wish Hook?

— Let's not talk about Jacinda/Ella and Lucy, or about the wasted potential of VioletxHenry

— I did miss David and Snow, the scene where they rescue Henry and Regina in the Wish Realm is TOO PRECIOUS

— Although I miss the show, I'm glad it ended because I couldn't possibly handle another redemption arc for Rumplestiltskin after he betrayed everyone again (I'm sure he'd find a way to get back to life and betray everyone)

Even though I've never actually read the comics, I enjoyed this fic so much bc it's really just got everything that I love about Daredevil and mattfoggy as a ship -- humor, tension, reconciliation, yearning, (not actually) unrequited love, etc. Not to mention that I'm also a huge sucker for both the trope of two people finding their way to one another in any (and every) universe, but also I love me a crackfic!

I love the idea of Foggy using the whiteboard as a means of keeping track of if Matt needs a check-in. Because Matt absolutely needs it. One of my favorite fics that touches on a way that Matt is still actually blind despite his super senses.

Finding ways to filter out all the input his senses bombarded him with was vital to his sanity, to his ability to function and to any chance of sleep he had. It helped, Foggy helped, even when he didn’t know it. But now he did know and he didn’t like it. He wanted Matt to stop, so that was what he would try to do. Things were so tenuous between them, Matt knew from the way Foggy’s voice sounded when he said it that if Matt didn’t stop it would drive the rift between them impossibly and maybe even irrevocably deeper. He loved Foggy too much to let that happen – he loved Foggy too much in general.

A fun take on Matt trying to deal with the aftermath of Foggy finding out about his senses, and his desperation to do whatever he has to to make sure Foggy stays. Because of course Matt uses Foggy's sounds as an anchor, and of course he wouldn't think to try to explain it to Foggy.

prongsfoot- codependent, literally always together, hate on everyone else, pda to the extreme, literal soulmates, love each other in every single way, would literally never break up, act like a married couple after dating for one hour, their pet name for each other are 'mate' and 'bro', constantly wearing each other's clothes despite having very different style, can easily communicate with just looking at each other, the It couple

wolfstar- sirius is constantly tackling remus and forcing him to talk about his feelings & stop him from running away whenever he's upset, remus is constantly staring at sirius in awe, people (including remus) are constantly questioning why sirius is with remus & sirius gets so pissed off by it, they have nerdy little discussions about various subjects & recommend articles to each other, not super into pda & but nap together a lot

prongstail- peter is obsessed with james & loves watching him show off & work out, james is very pleased to have someone who enjoys watching him show off, peter makes james protect him & fight people for him, james likes going to where peter lives and pretending he's poor (alexa, play common people by pulp), james thrives on having an audience and peter enjoys being james' audience

padtail- on and off constantly, sirius is mean to peter and peter finds it hot "stop being so mean to me or i swear to god i'm gonna fall in love with you", they play chess all the time and then proceed to fight when the other wins (very falsettos core), peter knows about muggle pop culture & sirius loves learning about that, talk shit about other people for fun all the time, they are a mess together & cause the most morally ambiguous chaos

moonchaser- extremely fluffy ship, would literally never argue somehow, actually no they'd argue about pda cause james loves it and remus is terrified of it, very much a sugar daddy x sugar baby couple idc that's literally canon, they study together (james studies for half an hour then doodles on library books to keep remus company), both very responsible so their relationship is well organised if that makes sense?

moontail- probably the most toxic <3, peter is constantly gaslighting remus & remus is just like "yeah it probably is my fault :/", however also remus is the nicest person ever to peter so peter tries to not hurt remus, they understand each other well, peter finds remus' werewolf form very hot and remus is very uncomfortable by that, peter tries teaching remus all the trends to help him fit in more

My problem with the Marauders fandom

I usually say that ATYD was the worst thing that ever happened to Potterheads ("Harry Potter" fandom) and specially to Lupin Lovers (Remus Lupin fans). I don't actually think it is the worst, but you know what I mean. And it's not just ATYD, but most of Marauders fanfiction (well, they're mostly ATYD fanfics, to be honest).

It really disturbs me, because that's NOT Remus Lupin at all:

Lyall Lupin being an abusive father and Remus being raised in an orphanage or whatever that was? No!! Absolutely not! Lyall and Hope were loveable parents, who did everything they could for their son. They became outcasts because of his lycanthropy, and that's the reason behind Remus putting people at arm's length and feeling unworthy of love. He knew what would become of anyone who was too attached to a werewolf.

Remus being assertive and exploding at his friends. Uh... Nope. He was a boy who'd never had friends. Having friends had always been his biggest dream. So, he didn't agree with many of the things they did, but he cut them an awful lot of slack because he didn't want do lose them. It was the only time when he felt happy before "Prisoner of Azkaban" - when he had friends. Dumbledore made him prefect so that he would control them, which he didn't! He even remained friends with Sirius after he used him as a weapon against Snape! (Well, maybe he wouldn't remain friends with him if it didn't mean losing James and Peter's friendship too, but that's just a theory.)

‌Remus being a walking time bomb before the full moon. Remus? Really? Remus Lupin, the most self-controlled of all "Harry Potter" characters?! The guy always tamed his human form because he couldn't tame his wolf form. The moon only affected him when it was actually full.

‌The whole Wolfstar thing... Okay, I admit I don't like non-canon ships in general, except when one of them is an OC (most people hate OCs, but I love them, I read most anything Remus/OC - and write it). And as a woman, I mostly have no interest in Slash (M/M) - I do love Grindelore, but that's because it's Canon and their story fascinates me.

But my problem with Wolfstar is more than just a personal inability to like non-canon pairings. It's the fact that I can't get pass the fact that Sirius never cared much for Remus. He was his friend, sure, but he didn't act as a person in love, not for a second:

1. He wished for a full moon when he was bored. Of course Remus answered "darkly". He felt bad for him wishing it. And he suggested that he studied with him, but Sirius dismissed him.

2. The so-called prank (the biggest problem of them all): okay, I can't even begin to say how problematic this is even for a friendship, but for a couple... It would be extremely toxic, don't you think? Do you really think that a teenager in love would reveal his love interest's biggest secret to their worst enemy? And that was the least of it. He didn't care about what would become of Remus had he attacked Snape. The least that could happen would him being expelled (and knowing how society felt about werewolves, probably Remus would end up being executed). Of couse Sirius didn't think of it. But he definitely would if he was in love with him. It was something really cruel to do with a friend, but with a boyfriend... I don't even have the words to describe how toxic it would be to use your significant other as a weapon and expose their biggest secret.

3. He didn't leave him anything in his will. Anything. Even knowing that he was living in extreme poverty because of Umbridge's law against werewolves working. Sirius knew about that. It was Sirius himself who told Harry about it - and Harry was mad, because Lupin looked more ragged than ever. Now, I can understand that Sirius would forget about his friend - it's bad? It is, but it's on character. -, but about a lover? Never! Sirius was too intense for that. He loved James with all his heart and would do anything for him. But nor for Remus. Oh, by the way, James helped Remus financially when he couldn't work after finishing Hogwarts. Yep. He did it. Sirius didn't even leave him anything in his freaking will!

4. They didn't trust each other. They were supposed to be friends, but Sirius literally told James not to trust Lupin and to trust Pettigrew instead. Again, would he do that if he was in love with Remus?

Plus:

- Sirius was always much closer to James than to Remus. They are always described as always being together (even by the teachers and Madam Rosmerta. Not once is Remus mentioned.) and Harry had the impression that he was the only person who could make James change his mind;

- Dumbledore referred to Harry as the person Sirius loved the most. Harry. Not Remus. Harry.

- Sirius was the walking stereotype of the "bad boys" from the 80's/90's: long hair. motorcycle, ignoring the girls who were swooning for him, posters of girls in bikini in his bedroom (even when he grew up and Remus was actually a guest in his house), arrogant, popular, reckless... Totally "alpha male" and "heterotop" vibes.

- It's stated in Lupin's biography on the official "Harry Potter" website that he had never fallen in love before falling for Tonks.

- It's also said there that Sirius "always got the women".

But it's not just Remus. They made everyone act off-character: they made Sirius feminine, James soft and Peter a sweet boy who was forced to betray his friends. Not to mention poor Lyall Lupin and even Dumbledore. And what's with the obsession about making everyone queer? It was the 70's, for Merlin's sake! Not the 2020's!

My biggest problem is not the fanfiction per se. Fanfiction exists to make fans happy, I also read and write them. The problem is the fandom, trying to shove it down everyone's throat, pretending it's canon and even spreading fake news about the actors who played Sirius and Lupin, being aggressive to anyone who doesn't agree with them, and saying things like: "Lupin and Tonks had a lavender marriage" (yeah, because in lavender marriages one gets depressed over the other's rejection, leaves her newborn baby and runs into a war because she couldn't stand not knowing if her husband was dead, or - this is awesome - an unplanned pregnancy! LOL), "Tonks morphed into Sirius" (really? She never morphed into a man in the books, the furthest she went was disguising herself as an old lady, do you really think she even could morph into a man?), or - this is my favorite - "J. K. Rowling accidentally wrote them as a couple"! LOL This is hilarious. How can anyone "accidentally" write something?

And then, there are the people who choose to ignore canon. Okay, that's a valid option. Just don't go around saying that you like "Harry Potter". You don't. Your fanfics are about ATYD, not "Harry Potter" at all, because those characters are NOT from "Harry Potter", they only share the same names.

I could go on forever about this. But I won't I can't afford a lawyer. :P

The thing is: Marauders fanfiction is not "Harry Potter" fanfiction anymore, it's ATYD fanfiction. Only the names are the same, but those characters are definitely not from "Harry Potter", they're just all OCs.

I was thinking about what my favorite cdrama OTP is for 2024 and - rather surprisingly even to myself - it is Fan Xian x Lin Wan’er from Joy of Life 2.

Now, JOL2 is my favorite cdrama of 2024 so far and it will take a sizable miracle to dislodge it in the coming three months, so perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that my n1 OTP is what it is.

Except the thing is, JOL2 is not a romance centric drama at all. This is a year with some glorious romantic cdramas (The Legend of Shenli alone is what my dreams are made of.) JOL2, however, is not primarily or even secondarily a romance. In fact, Fan Xian does not even reunite with Wan’er eps and eps into this season.

So why?

I think it’s a twofold thing - one is when I love characters and narrative, their emotional entanglements, all of them - become more vivid and important. Fan Xian is in my Top 3 cdrama leads of all time (!!) so of course I am just generally more invested in his emotional life. But the other, bigger thing is that I just love what this ship does and has.

Wan’er is Fan Xian’s peace in the maelstrom, the person with whom that busy mind can rest. I keep thinking about that scene in her carriage where in the middle of plots and counterplots and countercounterplots you just see him stop and just relax. It makes me think of a quote from Busman’s Honeymoon which probably sums up my fave ship dynamic - it’s what Lord Peter says to Harriet: “you are my corner. I’ve come to hide.”

And I love how crucial she is to him. This is a man who can and has taken on royals and martial legends, who is able and willing to change the world. And yet he is trembling and utterly undone when he thinks he lost her love (in the aftermath of the truth about her brother coming out), he is stripped bare of defenses - or perhaps not because to be stripped of defenses would imply he ever had them against her and he never has. There is something so heady about how someone so self-sufficient needs her and how someone so competent is lost without her.

And then there is Wan’er. I have seen so much criticism of her - she is not a martial genius like Haitang Duo Duo, not a schemer like Eldest Princess, not a budding genius doctor like Ruo Ruo. But I think that is why I love her - because she does not have power (martial or political or genius) but what she has is steadiness and love and warmth. She also shares an understanding of loneliness with Fan Xian because for very different reasons they stood aside from life at a remove like looking through a thick window for a very long time. In the narrative they both escape that glass and join the world for good or ill - he is the reason for that freedom for her and she is a catalyst for his (though eventually there are many more reasons for him not to be removed - once you step out of the glass cage you can’t go back in, you acquire attachments.)

But also - she is just steady. In the world where people rarely say what they mean and mean what they say, where alliances shift and bonds are uncertain, she is one of the few people who puts him first and close to the only one who is always exactly what she is with him.

I think of that scene of her and Wuzhu. Where here is the one who killed her beloved brother and he’s weak enough that she can actually avenge him (that is the only opportunity and she knows it - Wuzhu is grandmaster level and she has no power) and yet - she does not on the off chance Fan Xian may need his help on the mission he’s on. She does not know if Fan Xian will need help. She does not know if Wuzhu would be able to get there to provide it. And yet the possibility of the possibility of protecting her husband is enough for her to forego her revenge in any meaningful fashion because much as she mourns her brother, much as she wants vengeance, she wants Fan Xian safe and protected more.

Fan Xian, for all his glib manner and fast talking, for all his devil may care attitude cares an awful lot about the people he sees as his. He has an enormous capacity for love (which I think is what ironically keeping him safe with the emperor; emperor knows he has so many levers he can pull to get Fan Xian back in line if he needs to.) And with Wan’er, Fan Xian has found someone who would care just as much for him back and I find it glorious.

I guess it turned into a shipper manifesto, huh.

I'll fully admit to being a pedantic asshole, but can someone please point me towards when Tim actually uses the word realism? I've searched every interview I could find and I can't find the reference.

Tim talks extensively about the stakes feeling real, or the characters or world feeling real, but (again, I'll own my pedantry), that means something different than "it's about realism" or "it's realistic" or whatever permutation people are claiming he said.

If he said it, let's see it; I could've missed it (you can win the great satisfaction of proving an insufferable know it all wrong in front of the entire internet).

If, he in fact did not talk about realism... People are still welcome to offer criticism, but can we do that without putting words in Tim's mouth or creating some kind of straw man?

The only time I can find "realism" is in Peter's statement, but the context of that is thanking the on set firefighters and technical advisors for their assistance over the years.

18th: Human! Helen Richardson/Mary Keay - Any ship with Mary Keay was going to end up at the bottom of the list because ...well I mean, it's Mary Keay. However, I will also note that the last thing Human! Helen would want is to be tangled up in all the fear nonsense, so I don't think this would work out. Though I do think the concept of Helen becoming Gerry's Step-Mom could be funny.

17th: Daisy Tonner/Mikaele Salesa - I don't dislike this ship per say, but that's mostly because when I try to think about it my brain rejects the concept as if it's genuinely unfathomable. So...0/10. What is going on?

16th: Trevor Herbert/Adelard Dekker - This would be a disaster but I would watch their first date like it was a messy reality show.

15th: Simon Fairchild/Not-Sasha - I do dislike this as a ship, in fact I hate this as a ship. However, I can't rank it lower because realistically I think Simon would find novelty in a shape shifter who uses their form to con people about their identity. I still hate it though.

14th: Oliver Banks/Hezekiah Wakely - This is INTERESTING from a narrative standpoint. Hezekiah can't sleep and Oliver dreads his dreams. Hezekiah finds peace in digging graves and Oliver is an Avatar of The End. Hezekiah uses his letters to Nathaniel to confide in someone about the fears and I'm pretty sure that Oliver is the avatar that gives the most statements about his situation. (Outside of the main cast.) I don't really like this but it has got me thinking.

13th: Georgie Barker/Nikola Orsinov - I don't like this as a ship, but it does make me think of a ton of interesting story idea's right off the bat. Like, what if Georgie was working with Nikola throughout Season 3? What if Nikola took interest in Georgie because her lack of fear made her less likely to notice something strange? I don't know. This would be a bad ship in canon but thinking about all the story avenues it could create makes me interested in any potential fanfictions.

12th: Gertrude Robinson/Distortion! Helen Richardson - It's insane that both of Gerard's Mother figures got spun with a version of Helen, but that's not the point. I think this could be fun in an AU. The lack of trust Gertrude would have with her VS knowing that having an Avatar so close to her is an advantage. The way Gertrude would more than likely realize that Helen wasn't friend but the way she also might see that as a good thing that they can't get too close. The guilt Gertrude would have toward The Distortion for what happened with Michael and the disdain The Distortion would have toward her for what happened with Michael. This could be really complex so I like this from that standpoint.

11th: Jane Prentiss/Rosie Zampano - What the hell. Sure.

10th: Gerard Keay/The Real Elias Bouchard - This ship is a timeline nightmare but I do like the concept of it. Maybe it would work in an AU where Elias takes a job from Gertrude instead of Jonah.

9th: Jude Perry/Sarah Baldwin - They would make each other worse but Jude would be into that.

8th: Season 5 Full Avatar Jonathan Sims/Agnes Montague - This would be devastating but I do kind of want to cry to it. Like, they both want different destines then what they get, but they're also both prone to answering the door when fate comes knocking. I will say that I do think they would find solace in sharing very similar burdens. However, at the end of the day I think they would make each other sad and subconsciously more complacent to the their fears. Though I do love the sheer angst potential of this and that's why I'm ranking it highish. I do love a well-written doomed romance and I am seeing the potential for that here.

7th: Peter Lukas/Jurgen Leitner - Okay. Look. I hate how well this works in canon as much as the next guy. I really do, but like...I can see it. This is a once every five year situationship built on mutual loneliness.

6th: Timothy Stoker/Distortion! Michael Shelley - I didn't think I had any feelings about this but then I remembered that Tim and Michael are both angry assistants who feel betrayed by their boss and are tied to the fears whether they want to be or not. Honestly?? I really like this concept. I want to listen to them have a conversation.

5th: Jared Hopworth/Breekon and Hope - This works in my head. A little too well. Jared "I worked in the mafia, at a gym, and as a florist" Hopworth could 110% find tasks to keep Breekon and Hope entertained.

3rd: - Season 2 Jon/Human Michael Shelley - Naive Michael Shelley who doesn't know what's going on teaming up with Season 2 Jon who knows something is going on and rapidly spiraling about it would be a really neat plotline. And if they kiss a few times then who's to stop them??

2ed: Annabelle Cane/Basira Hussain - This ship would make them both worse but they would have the entire plot of TMA wrapped up in five minutes. Absolute power couple who uses their combined wits to achieve their goals.

1st: Melanie King/Sasha James - This is just a genuinely good ship. Despite only meeting once Melanie liked Sasha enough to remember her and their talk about haunted pubs. If for some reason someone said to me "Pick and ship for Melanie that's not with Georgie," then I would go with Sasha. So I love this one. 10/10.

Soo... I'm rewatching the MCU for the umpteenth time (as one does) and I'm absolutely dreading Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Why? The canon interactions between Tony and Peter, and maybe just canon Tony in general. I love the character, but holy cow he goes through a rough patch at these times and I (lovingly) hate him because what do you mean he brings a 14-15-ish year old to Germany to fight for something he doesn't understand?! Peter was not subjugated to the Accords, and yet he's fighting for them? I don't understand Tony's hypocrisy there. (Then again, it wasn't fully about the Accords, so...)

I can sympathize with all of the things that were going on at the time and all of the emotions Tony felt, but he's learned to keep people (a teenage stranger no less!) out of his battles! That happened in Iron Man 3, no? Harley nearly got killed because Tony was merely camping in his garage! Pepper nearly died, got kidnapped, and got mixed up with the Extremis stuff because Tony revealed his address, endangering himself and dragging everyone who lives with him (AKA: Pepper) along into the danger! He knows this by now, so why drag (and pretty much blackmail) a teenager into a fight—that did not have to get physical, mind you—between him and Steve? Ugghhh, it's almost a miscommunication trope without the romantic involvement (or with it if you ship Steve and Tony: who am I to rain on that parade?)

And in Homecoming, Tony just seems so dismissive! He gives Peter a taste of running with the big leagues (not a very apt experience since it was a petty squabble and not an actual fight for the good of the world) and then tells him to go on stopping purse snatchers and stuff? Like, Peter's young, I get that, but he never was just Spider-Man to stop purse snatchers, the video of him catching that car proves that! And Tony saw that video, so he knows. The whole airport fight, Peter was so enthusiastic to be there, how could Tony not see that? How could he expect him to not go after someone who's actively making lives more dangerous by selling alien-tech-juiced up weapons like Adrian Toomes? (Pardon if that's not his name in the MCU) It wouldn't have been an issue if Tony listened to Peter and actually handled it instead of saying he'll handle it and then do absolute jack to deal with it! So, when Peter steps up since Tony isn't, he gets in trouble and stripped of the suit that's saved his life and Karen, who was a massive help for him!

I wonder what was Tony's thought process there because Peter was going out in sweats to be Spider-Man before he got the suit, why wouldn't he just go back to that? Because Tony said so? Because the suit that he no longer has is the only way to go about as Spider-Man? Naturally, Peter threw himself into danger because with or without the suit, he'd feel responsible if things went wrong and he did nothing to help! He told Tony that he'd feel responsible for the bad things that happen if he didn't do anything. And no, the "and if something happened to you, I feel like that's on me" does not make it better because Tony apparently cares. Those are vastly different things. Tony feels responsible for Peter's safety, Peter feels responsible for his neighborhood's safety. One has many, many more lives attached to it, and Peter, with his massive guilt complex and gods know what else, knows his death would hurt people, but so many other people could die and their families would feel that same pain, so, of course, he isn't going to stand by!

Anyway, that's my piece. I just don't want to watch Civil War or Homecoming because Tony makes me so frustrated in them. But I'll still eat up fanon Irondad and Spiderson every time, excluding certain circumstances, but that's for another time.

sirius shipping "analyze" that u might find interesting or not

i really wanted to address smth that it was also addressed by one of my moots, but oh well, why not write my own thing. i'm open to any sort of question about this bc i think that talks about ships are fun and make it very clear on how u view characters as well lol

i have said multiple times in my blog that i do ship wolfstar, i just don't ship them in a way most of the fandom does, and i also don't find the "dramatic star across lovers appeal" (or whatever the saying goes) about them. in theory, for me at least, this obviously is my personal take, everything about this is personal take, even sirius/snape is more interesting than sirius/remus. some of u know that i'm not wrong. in the books sirius and remus dynamic have "few colors." sirius and remus in consistent with their characters in the books would be dysfunctional and not like the fandom usually portrays them. if we go by the theory that sirius did have romantic feeling for james bc of his parallels with snape and his feelings for lily, sirius would probably be using remus because he can't get james and remus would probably be very much aware of that.

nothing in the books suggests that remus and sirius had a particularly close relationship when they were young. in fact!!! considering what transpired, they may have been the least close of the four lol. there is a typical adolescent boy group hierarchy in the willow scene (teen boys) it is never depicted as a friendship between equals. given that remus and peter are both followers in the group, and reminding remus's failure/struggle to monitor/stop/speak up sirius and james's behavior

but as adults we do see that they're different. and that's why adult wolfstar makes so much more sense, either sirius reciprocating remus's feelings after years or both getting to know each other again in romantic lenses.

and now where am i'm going with this? there is a clear reason, despite my constant whining in my blog why prongsfoot is not popular, and the reason is that jily, the actual canon couple, harry's parents, the main character's parents, will always be more powerful than any ship trying to separate them. it's easy math, it's always going to be like that. jily is simply more important as a couple than prongsfoot or jegulus, or any other ship with them in it. that's the hard truth my prongsfoot heart had to accept ages ago.

but this is just sad, isn't it? sirius literally on every side you looking at it not having any functional relationship, lmao😭. not that everyone necessarily needs one, let me be clear here, i actually am a huge huge huge huge fan of ace sirius. but i also think that love plays a part in human's life and i want to explore that with his character.

so this why marlene mckinnon become one of sirius partner. an order member, very niche no? very simple math in a literature sense AGAIN. (all im doing here is finding the x guys) but there is also, a very very interesting lookout to them. marlene as an ooc of the fandom, has now for years, been the female version of sirius, and the question airs, knowing what a complex individual sirius is, would he date someone similar to himself? how would that would work out.

dating someone that is a mirror of yourself, is exactly what someone like sirius needs in my personal opinion because it means sirius has to face the issues he knows he has, and people tend to do things better/healthier etc when they do things for other people rather than themselves. i think this is also something taught in martial arts, how your body strengths when you want to protect someone closer to you by much more than you protecting yourself.

now why marlene? marlene could not be barty, emma, emmeline, benjy, evans and the many more characters that the fandom has created and added to our marauders era to make it more full, is because marlene is the one we gave sirius's persona to. she is the one who can mirror him. she is the one who we can say "two sides of the same coin" for many fanon reason we have created along the jouney, she is the one that helps us the best to take sirius part by part bc they are mirrors of each other and dating ur mirror? ooff that sure sounds something i, personally, want to explore and devour.

edited here: oh no marlene is not a savior, that is not how i wanted to come across as AT ALL, marlene holds him accountable, and sirius would hold her accountable, bc i view their persona, morals, way of thinking, ethics, the same, so by dealing with each other's bullshit, they would simultaneously be dealing with their own bullshit. relationship like theirs, either go dysfunctional bc again, dealing with the package you carry and healing from it etc, it's not a walk on the park, but if they DO eventually deal with it, in which they also wouldn't bc marlene dies, but, oh well, they would fit together very perfectly<<<< just so no one thinks im making marlene any saint here, im just talking more about sirius

Now, some people told me - and I had thought about it myself - Evie as Sirius and tbh this one make sense given their diva personality mixed with their fierce loyalty and their automatic acceptance of the ennemy's lifestyle:

Like Evie accepted the Auradon pink and girly lifestyle so fast and she realized quikly it was what suited her best unlike Mal who took much more time to accept herself

It makes me think of Sirius accepting so fast the Gryffindor life and all the love and care his friends had to offer, whereas Regulus took way more time to realized he deserved it

(Makes sense for the Black Brothers to be Mal and Evie given how much siblings aura they give off)

I'm assuming you meant ships and not fics, and that you really want me to get controversial, huh.

So, like, I wouldn't call it "against," as I have nothing against people shipping anything, and I don't even mind seeing some of the ships on this list on occasion. These are just ships I don't personally find compelling (some of them I can find objectively compelling and are just not to my taste), so it really isn't "against", more like not my cup of tea ships.

Also, ship whatever you ship, I really don't care what anyone else ships, and these are just some of my subjective opinions. So, in no particular order:

1. Hinny

I talked about my dislike of Hinny plenty, and I have a substantial "anti hinny" tag on this blog, which I will refer to here (and the tag here, if you're interested)

2. Drarry

I talked about Drarry here. Drarry is a pairing that has so much going for it, I wish I could like it, but I find Draco's canon character annoying, so I can't ship him with Harry who's my favorite and gets only the best from me when it comes to shipping. So, it's a not my cup of tea thing.

3. Linny

Talked about them here. I just never got the impression Ginny truly respects Luna, and that sucks for Luna and this relationship.

4. Wolfstar

So, this is, I guess, a big one to say I don't particularly like, and I'll give a bit of my reasoning.

My canon-loving self can't get behind fanon Wolfstar at all. They're not even actually the characters, and as Sirius is one of my favorites, I really dislike his fanon version. Additionally, as I mentioned about Drarry, I can't really be invested in a ship where I don't feel about the characters the same way (that's a me thing), and as I love canon Sirius but am very critical of canon Remus, that also stops me from ever really liking this pairing.

But even if we ignore my own opinions about the characters and talk about canon Wolfstar — I'm not a fan.

I just don't think they work. Like, I can see them having sex during OotP, but I wouldn't call it a healthy relationship. I can see it because they're the only Mauraders left, and neither of them is in a good mental space. Like, I can see them getting into a messy situationship because they're depressed and they miss the dead, and this could be super interesting, but it isn't the form Wolfstar usually takes.

I mean, both of them were James' freinds first and each other's second. James was the most important person to Sirius, but also to Remus, I think. Like, James was the one who held the Mauraders together. Sirius would not have befriended Remus and Peter without James, I guarantee it.

I mean, it's telling both thought of the other as a traitor and potential spy during/after the war. And I think, even during the books, they never really got over it, they just kinda cast it aside.

Like, it's mostly that I can't get behind how Wolfstar is portrayed in the fandom, even when the characters stick closer to canon. I just don't see this as a good relationship. I think, if they were to get together as adults, it would be so much messier. And I can't imagine them getting together as teens during school, since, I think at that point, the interest in each other wouldn't be there. I never saw them as each other's first choice. Like if they had to choose which Maurader other than themselves to save — they'd both choose James.

It might also be my Prongsfoot agenda speaking, but, like, you can't tell me Sirius "it's been 14 years and there wasn't a day I didn't think about your father" Black wasn't in love with James Potter since, like, day 1. I honestly believe in the canon books, Sirius was in love with James (not the other way though, I think in canon it was one-sided, but James did love Sirius, just not romantically).

5. Jegulus

I need to talk about this, I guess. Like, I probably wouldn't have minded canon James being shipped with Canon Regulus (although, I'm iffy about that too, becouse James likes having "the best" and according to Harry and Slughorn Regulus is just a downgraded Sirius, so why would James go for the seemingly "lesser" Black Brother when Sirius is right there and more than willing.) But the fanon version of both of them are just really not for me.

Neither of them actually feels like the characters they are supposed to be. Like, they kinda remind me of the fanon portrayal of Percico (Percy x Nico, from Percy Jackson) back in the day (haven't been in the PJO fandom in years, so I don't know what they're up to now). Like, I think fanon Jegulus is a Percico variant, and I wonder what the Fandom overlaps is.

6. Harry x Cedric

I can get behind the idea Harry fancied Cedric a bit in 4th year. It makes sense, I understand Harry, Cedric is hot, Harry's hormonal, of course, he'd have a bit of a crush. I just don't think they would make an interesting or particularly good couple.

Like, the fact Cedric dated Cho for as long as he did tells me he would not have gotten along in a relationship with Harry. Becouse Harry and Cho are very different people who look for different things in a relationship. I think Harry would find Cedric frustrating as he found Cho if they actually tried to date or got a chance to get closer.

7. Snape x any of the golden trio

Again, no hate, just, this one is really not for me, and I never really wanted to read it.

8. Bellatrix x any of the golden trio

Same as above.

9. Vernon or Petunia with anyone other than each other

I just don't think anyone else (except maybe Marge) deserves it. I can get behind Petunia cheating on Vernon with Marge.

10. Bellamort

I talked about it here. And I just can't get behind it. I don't find them particularly interesting, I don't think Voldemort was interested in Bellatrix romantically in canon (they might've had sex), and I don't think he particularly respects her while she's obsessed with him. So, I don't find them (be it canon or fanon) compelling to read about. The fact that Bellatrix would be easy for Voldemort to be in a relationship with doesn't mean it's a good thing, I think Voldemort should struggle in a relationship. The most interesting Voldemort ships push him into a character arc, and Bellamort doesn't do that.

11. Ron x Lavender and 12. Harry x Ginny

I feel like canon speaks for itself, but I wrote a bit about Harry and Cho here.

13. Most Dumbledore ships.

Mostly becouse Dumbledore is a character I'm not usually interested in shipping. I'm interested in Grindledore because of its impact on Dumbledore's character, but, he's just not a character I want to read a romance about. This is my personal opinion.

I have a lot of other ships I'm indifferent towards. Like, Snape with either Lucius or Narcissa, or Pansy x Hermione, I'm not a big fan, but I don't dislike them, just indifferent.

I'm also sure I missed a bunch, but I tried to hit the big ones I don't like. Though, even with some of these, if the summary is interesting I might read a fic with them.

I'd hate reading:

James -> EW. Ew ew ew. I find this man disgusting and the idea of Severus and him together makes my skin crrrawl. Incredibly toxic but without any fun stuff or character development in store like with Sirius. James had no excuse for being the way he was and that makes him 1000000% worse imo. I ship him with maggots.

Dumbledore -> Incredibly toxic too. He disregarded Severus's safety and well-being so much as a student and then young adult that I can never imagine him as being healthy for him ever. EVER.

Lily -> Sorry, very sorry Snily lovers, I respect you but like the other two, she treated him so poorly and I think he deserves so much better and also, while I think he may have been attracted to her at some point (because teenagers) to me she mostly was his attachment figure and the feeling clearly wasn't mutual. Also I'm not into one-sided love stories (I have my real life for that lolz).

I don't want to read:

Harry -> I don't like the old student/professor dynamic and Harry embodies too many of his triggers. I prefer them in a Severitus setup.

Draco -> Feels straight up like incest to me. He's like his second dad (not shaming people who read incest, it's just not my thing for Sev).

Him with a student in general.

Peter -> I mean I see why this would be a crackship that could work but ew.

Me rattling my brain for things I wouldn't like and didn't really even consider before now:

Slughorn -> Ew.

Ooooh, that’s fun.

The fandom is dead and I’ve only been here since August, so I can’t say I saw a lot of stuff to either agree or disagree with tbh (which is why I ask ppl to send me their hcs and ideas bc I wanna see at least SOME content) buuuut there are a few character interpretations that piss me off.

1. “Janine would be jealous if Egon got in a relationship with other guys” she literally would not. If it was someone else? Maybe. The guys? No. Dude, they are a family. He constantly spends time w/ them instead of her, they sleep in the same room, they are BASICALLY an old married relationship already, and she dgaf, she loves all of them and she wouldn’t mind. SHE set them up to meet in EGB on Egon’s birthday, I swear. If she was jealous she’d constantly drag him away from them to spend time with her instead, but she doesn’t bc she doesn’t mind. They are grown adults and they can share perfectly fine. Stop putting them against each other. Pictures related.

2. “Peter doesn’t care about his job or his friends and really only wants to gain fame and a girlfriend” I WILL KILL YOU!!! But like that is FACTUALLY not true. In the show we see him having MULTIPLE opportunities to leave ghostbusting behind and go on to do something more fun, but he ALWAYS turns them down like it’s obvious (ex: “Banshee Bake a Cherry Pie?”). Plus, he cares more about his friends and his job than about any girl, AND he cares more about them than his infamous movie counterpart!! Movie Peter turned down work when he had a date. RGB Peter? Yea, he whined for like 2 seconds but then went anyway and forgot about it like immediately. I mean hell, in EGB HE was the one who after TWO MINUTES back in the Firehouse went “wow guys, we stopped early with this, maybe we should reconsider and become Ghostbusters again?” HE LOVES THIS JOB AND THESE PEOPLE!!

3. Not a fan of when ppl separate the guys into 2&2 ships, just let them be poly. All of their dynamics are written with the same depth, they all care about each other and have sweet moments, like come on. It esp irks me when ppl only care about Egon/Peter, idk, smth smth picking only the two conventionally attractive white men to ship and talk about from such a close-knitted group is an odd decision to me 🤷

4. Hate when ppl ignore / exclude Janine from the group. She’s just as much a member of this family as the guys are, and they love her, leave my goat alone. But also don’t like when they ship her with other guys besides Egon. Maybe it’s cuz I see her as a lesbian, maybe not, idk. Not my thing.

5. Idk don’t like when ppl can’t separate the movies from the show? Saying RGB guys left Egon alone like the movie ones did is plain wrong. They didn’t. It was a mutual decision to split up and they were all miserable and clearly missed each other. In Afterlife (as much as I like it) it barely seems like the guys gaf about Egon dying at all, but in RGB? Boy oh boy, they are the happiest people ever when they meet. Separate them!!

6. PPL NEED TO LOCK IN FOR EGB!!! If you like RGB but never saw EGB you don’t see the most heartbreaking tragic part of their relationship and how it affected all of them, ESPECIALLY Egon. As I said before, EGB literally has everything ppl wanted from the sequel movies PLUS it’s actually good.

But overall my fandom experience was positive (cuz the fandom is dead) yay!!!
