-I have my own spin on why Ivy's not as good as Aelwynn. Ivy's a too realistically mean bitch, Aelwynn's a CRAZY bitch. One's way more entertaining than the other. Also Ivy's dollar store Garthy O'Brien accent is very off-putting. Stop sounding like a much cooler character, you high school hot girl cliche.

-Is Henry having Gorgug do all three Artificer years at once or one at a time? Cause one's a very logical way to go about it and the other's really not. You know, hyperfocus on finishing Freshman then Sophomore year and then play catch-up on the Junior year material. The smart way to do it. Or is Gorgug having to do Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced course material simultaneously? Cause that's a very dumb way to do it. Whichever way, Gorgug's nailing it, but that second one isn't sustainable.

-At first Fig's whole crisis about her lack of passion for being a Bard struck me as manufactured drama, but I've let it sink in and come to a different take on it. Fig's whole Rebel Punk Girl deal so far was obviously a reaction to the divorce and her life/family kinda falling apart. But now, things are REALLY great for her. Great family, great friends, great girlfriend. Her personal life is goals. So, how much is all that positive change affecting her? Is she over her Punk phase and moving on to something else? Season's not over, let's find out.

-Adaine's starting to use magic means and her connections to make money and I respect it.....BASRAR'S A GENIE! That just sank in right now as I'm typing this. But Brennan's no dummy. He probably set like a hard limit on the value of his wishes to close off that easy solution, but maybe he got sloppy and forgot to do that. Fingers crossed.

-I still don't think Fabian deserves Mazey after his behavior of late, but I'm still pretty into that ship, so whatever happens happens.

-Not much to say about Kristen and Riz. Especially Riz since he's been taking a narrative backseat so far this season. Hopefully that'll change soon. Still, Hi Riz, Hi Kristen :)

Sorry this is late! Things are crazy! Luckily it's all still relevant. Let me go through point by point.

If I said something other than that then it was a typo! I'll check and edit when I have a chance. But I think the point I was making was that it would make sense that the Rat Grinders never got more ambitious if Lucy had died the first week of school like Kristen and Gorgug. It makes less sense that they wouldn't ever leave the starting area with no dramatic incident to keep them skittish and that happened in Sophomore Year, not right away. And it def feels like they're copying the Bad Kids. The question is whether it's to just score some extra points or if there are also ulterior motives.

That's also an excellent point! The ideal bitch character is, to quote Heathers, a "mythic bitch". You want her so crazy she doesn't feel real. You want her doing full ass crimes. Ivy is just like, the run of the mill racist bitch you went to high school with. Too close to home. Not fun at all. The only thing it pings for me is disgust. And Garthy is WAY cooler than her. I hope the Bad Kids grind her into dust.

There is a split between D&D mechanics and actual in game reality sometimes and I really hope Brennan is just making Zac roll them simultaneously for mechanics reasons and in reality Gorgug is just taking all three years back to back to back and not simultaneously because it would be, as you said, and INSANE way to structure learning.

I'm kinda curious about where exactly the disconnect is for her because it's not like she needs to even be a musician to be a bard. There are so many different subclasses. Did she get into music just to let out her aggression and now that she doesn't feel so angsty, it's not flowing as well? Would she be feeling this way if she didn't have pressure to put out an album? It's not like she lost her creative spirit in a broad sense--who else but Fig could come up with Wanda Childa? But yeah, it'll be interesting to see where she lands, especially since she has this other stuff in her life going on too that needs to be resolved (curse stuff) and also she is literally the archdevil of rebellion currently which will be hard to pull off is she doesn't feel a connection to it. Which I honestly think she still does because if she didn't, the stuff with Cass wouldn't be working as well (the whole doubt/rebellion tag team and her successful prayer). Anyway, I just think she's in a transitional period. As you said, let's find out where this goes.

There is no way Brennan is gonna let them Basrar-Ex-Machina their way out of their problems without some truly insane rolls but, in character, it wouldn't be out of pocket to ask. Especially since she's the reason he can grant more than just ice cream wishes. But yeah, good on her for using her jacket as a side hustle and I really hope her charging for visions because you know those Falinel elves are sitting on piles of ancestral cash.

I'm not overly invested in Fabian's love life but it is really funny watching him flail so badly in this department even though he's objectively really cool according to the dice. Kristen is Going Through It and Riz has been great support so they deserve a bit of a break, especially because I feel like things are gonna pop off for them pretty quick.

Volume 1 Chapter 1

The archiving system of this game's story can be confusing, but you end up rolling with it at some point.

Anyhow, we begin this first actual storyline of the game by Sensei accepting a plea for help from a smaller school.

Turns out Abydos Academy used to be the largest school before desertification ate most of the land belonging to it, resulting in attempts at disaster relief eating through funds. This got the school in deep shit with loan sharks...

And this is basically why that school only has 5 students remaining.

What the fuck.

But Sensei is undaunted and goes there on his own!

Except the district is still large as hell, so they end up lost and dehydrated after three hours. Considering it's a desert district...

But yeah, Sensei then gets found by a student who winds up taking them piggyback to Abydos Academy, where we meet the Foreclosure Task Force, aka the five last students of Abydos.

Now, I will have the cliffnotes less detailed here BC certain details will be mentioned as I go along this story.

These are the last members of their school, and they are up shits creek without a paddle. Under siege by delinquents and over 900 Million Yen (about 9 Million Dollars) in debt and with almost no way to earn money, plus the interest rate, things are dire.

At least the siege can be solved by Sensei ordering some ammo for all and coordinating a counteroffensive. The debt, not so much.

Turns out Abydos went ignored by the GSC for some reason (politics, probs) and Sensei is their first ray of hope in a while.

Sorta. We later learn that Nonomi is so motherfucking rich that she has a credit card with no known upper limit and could wipe the debt out in a swipe. However, principle of the thing, so no do that.

Bit dumb, considering, but they get by... barely.

So their next course of action to get some money is to find out about jobs in their area. Serika winds up falling for a pyramid scheme, so we all band together to fuck these fraudsters up.

Next suggestion: rob a bank!

Shiroko seems to be a big fan of Payday, enough so that her hobby is planning bank heists. Of course they need masks and a plan and new identities of this.

The name "Masked Swimsuit Gang" ends up sticking. (They don't even wear swimsuits here)

However, before then, a new threat arises! The loan sharks are a subsidy of Kaiser Corporation, the biggest corp in Kivotos and all-around assholes. The head twat hires a certain agency to ensure Abydos' demise and securing what remains of the land the last Prez sold off for loans.

Everyone but Aru recognises them, who thinks they're so god damn cool for robbing a bank.

It's unfortunate that PS69- sorry, 68 gets outta dodge because asshole McGee is assmad they failed to put the screws on Abydos.

Sensei offers help, but has to be kindly refused. Don't worry, this lovable moron and her unstoppable crew of one punk chick, one imp and one High-powered depression-run bomb builder of a school girl terrorist will be back

And, yes, that one is Haruka, who winds up blowing up the Ramen store because she thought it would help Aru.

Back to story: FTF can't take the money home because it wouldn't be okay, so they leave the bag with blown-up ramen shop owner (he's okay, just a little singed).

Suddenly, invasion! Not by Kaiser Corp, but by Gehenna Academy, one of the big three! They wanna learn what the fuck is up for reasons. This time, I'll write what happens with each of the featured characters in the bullet notes because that is their only appearance in the story.

first week of school recap! aug 25 - aug 30 ↴

sunday night:

⟡ my glasses broke spontaneously and needs to get fixed (which i found out ill have to pay for repairs and I don't want to do that)

monday:

⟡ trying to find parking was an absolute nightmare and i end up not finding any parking, but my sister took over since i was going to be late if i couldn't find any.

⟡ but this class is good! im taking queer lit lol, but there is a guy in that class who yaps a little too much and too slow for my liking (he also sounds like reddit/discord mod) (should give you an image of what he looks like)

⟡ i only have one class on this day so that's a plus loll

⟡ also my purple dog shirt came in and so i can't wait to wear it! (will probs post a pic/vid of me wearing it and then delete it) (never thought i would post a face reveal but im still debating it loll)

tuesday:

⟡ once again parking was terrible to find and i had to park at one of the lots that was across campus from my first class and it was hell walking in the heat and i was sweating so much.

⟡ my second class was interesting and my prof made us say our favorite book while she took attendance and i kid you not that there were six, i repeat SIX it ends with us mentions as ppls fav book and i just about shot myself in the head at that moment

some lore about me: i loathe colleen hoover with my entire being, she's my arch nemesis if you will. as someone once said before, ppl who read CH books never had a fanfiction phase and it shows (she also gives me hope that i have the ability to write)

⟡ but classes went well and after my second class, i have a gap of like three and half hours before my last class (oof ik), so i walked back to my car to move it to the nearest parking structure and i walked around aimlessly around the lot bc i forgot where i parked my car, but i eventually found it after like ten minutes loll.

⟡ then while i waited for my last class wait to start, i ate dinner in the student union (mini food court) at my school and before my class started at 7:00, i made my way down to the basement where the class is which was a little freaky but the teacher is pretty chill. its a story structure class for screenwriting so that'll be fun!

wednesday:

⟡ my sister and i come in to class on mondays and wednesdays and i only have one class while she has two later in the day (mine is earlier than hers) so i have to stay at school until she's done which is always fun (not, her last class ends at 6:45 PM while mine ends at 12:45 PM >_<).

⟡ parking wasn't fun and our patience ran really thin this morning so we ended up parking in the same lot i did the previous day and found parking pretty quickly. but i ended up moving the car to the parking structure i did yesterday.

⟡ i ended up vibing and eating lunch in the library before moving the car and taking a really sweaty nap in it lol before my sister was done with her class and then drove home :)

thursday:

⟡ got to school an hour before my class started bc i was conditioned on monday to search for parking an hour and potentially be late to class, but i ended up parking for the third day in a row at the furthest parking lot bc i couldn't be bothered to deal with the headache of circling around the parking structures for an hour

⟡ then after my first class, i was able to meet up with a friend for a bit before her class and then after our last classes which was fun! but then i ended up having to walk across campus again bc i didn't move my car in between my first class and second class bc i wasn't sure about the amount of parking spots in the parking structures and didn't want risk being late to class trying to find parking.

⟡ but i had a friend my last class of the day and they parked near the lot i did so we walked and chatted after we finished class!

⟡ speaking of classes, my professors are all iconic and ive enjoyed the classes so far! although one of my professors is such a millennial it hurts (in a good way though, she's funny loll)

⟡ all in all i don't have any more classes this week! fridays are my free days, giving me a three day weekend :)

friday:

⟡ i had a dentist appointment in the morning and i actually slept through the night lol

(my body has been weird and waking me up with cramps like an hour before my alarm goes off and i can't go back to sleep :/)

⟡ other than that i just chilled and posted some headcanons for sammy! i did not in fact do any homework but its fine because ill do it on sunday or monday since i have monday off as well.

WELLLLLL The last weeks have been a mess and a half. Don't want to get into it. It's probably going to stay messy for a while. whomp whopm :/

Onto what's been happenings. I missed last week, so here's a recap of what I did on that 3rd week of January:

I made a new Zine (CTRL+SHIFT+ZUT+ALORS), with the vibes of lost content/games and weird programs. The Zine is downloadable in both French and English. Also, you can use it as a prompt if you want!

I was working on my Recipe Jam entry (but didn't finish because I kept fighting Adventuron and all the conditional statements...).

Also continued to review a bunch of games (see @manonamora-if-reviews).

And here what happened this week:

I finished my entry to the Recipe Jam: Not Another Sad Meal - a short cooking sim parser (easy! with walkthrough and help!)

I've also done a couple of fixes for the Sugarcube Guide (mainly typo + new indexes)

Also done a mini-fix for Meeting the Parents

Continued to play and review a shit ton of games (got the 3rd place on the Reviewer board, need about 100 reviews to get to the next one...)

A longer note on Harcourt:

I've been going at the coding of the file this week, and I think I cleared at least 1/5th of the file (I've mainly done the easy passages). The maze was insanely long to write and edit... it is now a pain to code. Will people actually see all the written text? probably not. I may have the untested and unformatted version done in a week or two.

Writing wise, MelS is finishing the 2nd ending path for Chapter 6 (it's a bummer one, I've already cried yall...). And he has 2 more ending paths to write before moving to the editing bit.

We're seeing the end with this...

Some other neat things:

okay i’m caught up on legacies so here’s my final mini rant/recap of my opinions:

stilllll sick of landon & tbh i was kinda excited for him to be gone but clearly that only lasted one episode. it’s not that he’s a bad character he’s just not that interesting and i feel like him & hope’s relationship is holding us back from some badass hope storylines that don’t revolve around him??

i’m SO upset about raf omg he was prob my fave male character. i love the way they wrote him off but i hate that they wrote him off at all. tbh his brotherhood with landon was my fave thing about landon lol oops.

ok some of these storylines & episodes are like really really whack. like straight up i wanna know where the writers are getting some of these ideas because they’re so odd? i hope they move past the unbelievable monsters stage and move onto something that’s more classically tvd/to whether that being evil vampires/witches/werewolves or some type of entirely human problem like them being found out by vampire hunters or such.

i’m curious to see what happens with mg & lizzie but honestly i feel like they’re going to end up strictly as good friends. i very much get lesbian vibes from her and from what we’ve seen in her past relationships with men they seem more geared towards her needing to feel a sense of control and are mainly just sex rather than a meaningful romantic relationship. i think she’s going to try with mg and then realize that even the sweetest guy isn’t right for her because she’s actually strictly romantically into women?? it’s more of what i hope to happen than anything lol

finally, we have two potential love interests for josie?? both that qb that there’s been some weird ass energy with AND the girl who gave her the tour. tbh i’m really rooting for her & the tour girl because we haven’t seen a real wlw relationship in the tvdu like ever? besides the nora & mary louise but they were seen as villains and died LOL. i’m not counting josie and penelope because we only saw them post breakup and i feel like the producers & writers are avoiding a full fledged relationship happening during the show

Ohhhh I'm so sorry you're feeling homesick!! I can defs give some video game recs!! What Remains of Edith Finch is probs my fave game about Returning Home! Really touching mini-stories about family members that all tie together! Kind of a "walking simulator" style game, and definitely sad in places, but a ton of fun!

Tell Me Why is another really good "return home" style game! A really touching story about two twins, and the choices you make really effect the outcome of the story which is always lovely to see!

Night in the Woods, as well! Really reassuring if you ever struggle with mental illness, especially.

Also Psychonauts 2 just came out and it's an absolute banger of a game -- you don't need to play the first game to get into P2 bc there's a great lil recap at the start of the game! Just fun and good humor all around.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix and NEO: The World Ends With You! I have some Strong Emotions about those games omg. NEO: TWEWY has a much different battle system than TWEWY does, and I think the battle system in TWEWY: Final Remix is lacking a bit bc it was really made for the DS and not the Switch! But the story is incredibly solid.

If you like horror and puzzle games, I can't recommend Zero Escape: 999 and Virtue's Last Reward enough!

And Paradise Killer is the best "solve the mystery" game I've ever played and has some wonderful character designs!

And if all else fails, Slime Rancher is the perfect thing to kind of turn off your brain and destress to!

Elseworlds theory

Ok so i trawled through a recap for Elseworlds and it’s basically a ‘what-if’ scenario and I thought great, Kara Barry and Oliver et al will probs get transported to this weird alternative canon where they’re conscious and no one else is, (because if they thought the ‘what-if’was normal there’d be no cinematic point in it or emotive feedback)

But then I saw this:

It would explain those articles suggesting the secret will come out and fuel kara’s angst while having a cop-out AND the added benefit of a parallel with Lois and Clark (who in this canon already knows about superman I think)

So throw in the wedding threat and the fact that red son (well, daughter) is itself a ‘what-if’ story, I can see this crossover being a supercentric one (largely bc it’s supergirl’s turn if nothing else) and if superman is already confirmed it makes sense to integrate Lena, the suspicious and clearly deeply questionable Luthor™

PLUS the held belief that Batwoman will be in supergirl’s universe means that there’s scope for a mini crossover like Oliver and Barry have and we already know kara doesn’t care for vigilantes so I can see some juicy conflict and I anticipate significant pouting on kara’s end

UMM AND ALSO was that a gay Lois storyline too??? Are we going to acknowledge that???? Je suis excited

tonight’s session was fun! we took a break from main plot and main characters to play NPCs doing a side-mission, and i got a detective-loner-type who was kinda the leader of this mission? so i got to do lots of rp. not really much in combat, thanks to him having the combat abilities of “hold them off until you can run away”, basically, but! still fun. (and also was way happy to let other people do some talking; i probably did a clear 30% of talking in a room w/ five ppl and i wasn’t the gm? haha i feel a lil’ guilty;;;) 

i honestly wasn’t expecting anything b/c i got the last character by default; i let everyone else choose from the NPCs available first. and i kept forgetting his name at first, and it took a while to figure out what to do with a nonstandard bard. 

but i was able to like, diplomacy/bluff our way outta fighting 17+5 enemies (who later died b/c they.... lack common sense, i think? slash also it was getting late and gm probs just wanted to wrap up the oneshot neatly, which, can’t blame ‘em) 

and i got a few good character moments in for a dude we’ve never actually talked to in the main game. (like, our characters had, but the players glossed over it b/c it was a side detail, so the players didn’t know too much about him.) which was super satisfying! although i definitely think he feels bad about the people that died. i/he kinda assumed that they would be cautious doing something they said they’d do, and then they.... weren’t? maybe they were but just unlucky and bad at tactics. we left and came back and they were dead, so he doesn’t know for sure. but he definitely didn’t intend for them to die, necessarily. he would’ve preferred they didn’t. 

and i also splurged and bought a set of tiger’s eye dice.... they’re so pretty..... and i’ll be using them for Mera with my other group. and i found a mini that can work for her, too, once i make some kitty themed mods to it. surprisingly, i did actually find a female lioness-folk mini, but it came from a “sexy western zodiac signs” set and was very obviously a naked person with a lion head and tail. as opposed to the kitted-out rogue she is. so i chose a dual-wielding gal rogue with a hood and like, some loose belt or w/e that can become a tail. add ears to the hood, maybe a little muzzle, and paint? bla blam! lion rogue

anyway that was tonight. today i went to see my therapist and that went pretty alright; i recently had a Really Good Day and i’ve regained some of what i consider normalness that he said he hadn’t seen in me before. so like. it’s slow progress, but i’m definitely making some progress with these appointments. and, just as importantly, i have a good relationship with an external system that wants me to stay alive and is part of keeping me on this side of the mortal realm. not that i don’t have that in other spaces! but when it’s me paying for the service of people who i jive with, i don’t have the same sort of anxieties when interacting with them, and therefore can be honest in different ways. 

i’m so very lucky i can afford to go there. i’m so fuckin lucky i have the time. (don’t get me wrong-- i do think this is a necessary part in my life. i’m just.... so lucky that it doesn’t compete with other necessary things, like food or rent.)

i ALSO, also ALSO, officially!! solved the Da/Ja golem puzzle!! mostly on my own without looking the answer up!!!!!! FUCK YEA

and i’m also back to writing here, the way i used to. at least for the moment. and hot DAMN did i miss it! not that the experience would be the same when i can’t think without immediately discounting what i’m thinking, but. it’s kinda nice to unwind and recap. contextualize and reflect. when i can do so w/o a negative lens, anywho. 

but yeah!

Hey all!

As the description says. New Duskwood fan here. Eager to hopefully discuss all things Duskwood with other fans. So I'm Maiden. That is my online alias as well you know how the Internet can be. Better to keep certain details close to your heart.

It's a shame the app doesn't have the option to recap what we've already done. Minus the mini games obvs. Without affecting the progress. While we wait for episode 10. As being able to go back over everything would have helpful. Especially in my case as silly me didn't keep anything to go back over with fellow fans. Not like those creators who did walk throughs or blogs to discuss as and when.

So yeah late to the scene because I had been umming and arring about downloading the app for ages. I know what was I thinking right!?. Then when I download and start the game. As you know the further along you get the trickier those pesky mini games can get. Well had to spend sometime figuring those out. As I suspect many of you did too. I know right from the off there was the option spend real money on the game which could have moved things along much quicker. But hey I wanted to see how far I could get without spending money.

Probs wouldn't have ended up spending anything if it weren't for the fact I hit a snag. What I mean by that is my phone updated and when it finished for some reason I had no progress on the game. Which was strange cos I actually managed to get to decent point where the storyline was really taking off. But nope no record of that. I got to episode 7 I believe it was with Richy. Don't want to do any spoilers but the call with MC and him. You know the one I mean. So yeah got that far and was royally ticked off I couldn't continue.

Anyways I started it again and yeah ended up spending money to get to where I was quicker. As I had already spent ages trying to get to the previous point in the game. Was so eager to continue I didn't wanna go through that all again at my original pace. Would have taken ages again nope. Was worth it though. Apart from the fact that I completed episode 8 then 9 now there is a wait for episode 10 and well doesn't feel like I had been playing it for long the second time around lol.

Ah well no worries. This game is so addictive. I love everything about it. The game itself is very user friendly. That's big one for me as I have to be able to get along with how it all looks, how easy it is to use etc. Those sorts of things. The location snaps and videos provided to be the town of Duskwood/surrounding areas exquisite. Love the cast. They are ace. Not to mention they all aren't too bad looking either. Their acting isn't the greatest but hey it is for a mobile game so I think I can let them off for that. Plus I don't believe I've seen them in anything else. So that would mean they are not as well know as some actors and actresses. No idea if they'll be used again for anything else like this. But I wouldn't mind it.

Though I may have to adjust to them playing other people. But yeah can excuse the acting. Who knows if they do anything else. They might just get better at it. Plus the storyline is fantastic. So good it draws you in right from the get go. So with how good everything else is the not so good acting isn't really the primary focus. Don't know about anyone else but for me the storyline had so much going on. I didn't really have time to focus on things like the acting too much. I was completely submerged into the world of Duskwood. Obvs not that bad where it was Duskwood all day everyday nothing else. No not that bad. But when I did fit in playing the game I was hooked. No doubt about it.

As I said in the description don't really have people irl to talk to about it lol. Bless my partner he has tried listening etc and what not. But he's not interested and well can't blame him not really his thing lol.

-Jason or Drew bought a Media company with Sam and they are Nina bosses. Also, Valentin wants the company still too.

-Speaking of Valentin the fake big bad Cassadine. He threatened Nelle again but she caught him meeting that blonde lady who might or might not be a Cassadine? They kissed. So yeah Valentin is cheating on Nina even tho he might not see it has cheating. Nina will tho. Guess everyone around you were right Nina! Then Laura is right the curse is beginning...

-Also, Finn and Anna have to pretend to be partners.

-Carson were there hypercritical selfs today.

-Kristina left to move in with Parker somewhere. Which Sonny is okay with even tho he has a huge prob with Ava and Morgan but whatever. Guess he can’t help but support his mini self?

-Oh Jason and Sam or #Dream went into same bar the real Jason was in!!! Sam ofc thought the watch Jason won from Huxley was unique. But those scenes also proved Dream are also alike too. Like Billy acts like Drew rn let’s be honest even tho he thinks he is Jason. Then what happens to company if Jason takes him money back???? But Sam will be co partner so real Jason would support Sam he did when she opened a PI business plus again Drew is a Quartermaine. They hate Cassadines so I could see Ned and Michael being so petty and be like yeah we will help you out.

-Michael found out Nelle is a champion swimmer so she could of saved her drowning fiancée.

-Creepy doc and Alexis are cute and I like his relationship with Kiki. It warmed my heart hearing she likes to hang out with him cuz he reminds her of Silas. But...he still creepy? Or we expect he will be a villain?????

-Corinthos kids had a memorial for Morgan which mirrored that Thanksgiving they had with Morgan minus Carson. However, Ava crashed it. Michael did tell her about her toxic parenting psycho self tho...

-Anything else that happened I can’t remember or don’t care about lol.

Hello again!!!

It’s been a while since I’ve recapped on events that have happened over these past couple weeks, so I thought I’d do a timeline/bullet style entry to highlight the experiences I’ve had since February 2nd(ish) :)

feb. 3 (fri.): I got ice cream from an ice cream truck!!! I was sitting at dinner with my family and we heard a jingle outside, which I didn’t think much of it, but as soon as my host dad said “There goes the ice cream truck” I freaked out. We only have ice cream trucks in the summer in suburban areas in the U.S., so I felt like I was reliving my childhood in Connecticut for a split second. My host sister told me the truck would come back on our street, so we hurried outside to flag it down. I was so, so giddy, and am getting excited as I type just thinking about it😄🍦We bought a couple of boxes of “fotball is” and had them for dessert :))

feb. 4 (sat.): I went on an AMAZING hike with my second host dad, Gert, and his buddy. The hike lasted about 4 1/2 hours in its entirety, and every minute of it was so flott (great)!! We hiked in a place called in Langevåg, about ten minutes from home. I think it was about 10 km roundabout and the mountain was 800 meters high. The hike itself was called Vardane on Suja Mountain. As many of you probably know I love hiking and do it often in Vermont, but this experience made me appreciate the activity (dare I say lifestyle) so much more. To break it down, we began the fjelltur (“mountain trip”/hike) walking up a dirt path after parking on the side of the road, much like in the U.S. The path was pretty wide, approximately 3 meters, and super worn down due to frequent use. There were trees overhead and you could see the surrounding mountains through gaps in the trees every so often. We passed many, many people in that first part of the trip. Although people in Norway are very quiet on the bus, in school etc., it’s like a different culture on the mountain. Everyone says hello and smiles to each other. Although it was about 50 degrees F that day it was considered strange to wear shorts, so a few people chuckled and asked me if I was cold after their hello (I wasn’t) :) Towards the top we made friends with a couple who were curious about my exchange; we chatted with them consistently for an hour or so while nearing the summit. I love this social aspect of hiking in Norway so much- it creates such a special, sacred environment for the mountains. After the first part of the hike on the path we came to a spot with few cabins and benches that you can take a break on if you want. It also serves as a destination if you don’t want to hike the rest, because it is where the treeline ends and you get a 360 degree view of mountains. This spot was also where you could start to see the summit. I felt an intense urge to get to the summit, kind of like it was a challenge. Being able to see glorious mountains all around you and knowing that the top of one is feasible to get to is truly invigorating. The path becomes more steep and difficult to hike, which was undoubtedly a factor in the experience. The two people I was hiking with  (Gert and his friend) were enjoying the placidness of the setting a bit more than I was, and they took a few breaks for coffee/snacks (it was super funny to me that people eat more unhealthy food like coke and oreos on hikes), which I wasn’t very used to. I kind of pushed ahead and starting hiking up at a quicker pace, waiting every now and then to see if they were following (don’t worry, they did :)). The higher I climbed the more snowy and chilly it got, which was exciting. After another hour of walking up this path I reached the peak! Our friends from earlier were there as well as a few other hikers, taking in the insane view. It was so marvelous. Soon Gert and his friend reached the top, and we had some more food, took some photos and relaxed. It was utterly stunning; I’d never seen mountains so amazing in that capacity, and I’m so lucky I got to! Going down was harder than coming up and I did wipe out a couple times, but we were eventually back on the dirt path. I decided to run it, so I listened to music and got to the bottom pretty quickly. There weren’t too many people heading down because it was starting to get dark (we hiked from 12pm-4:30pm). I got to the bottom and the car was locked, so I sat on a little hill above the parking lot and meditated. Gert and his friend got down and we headed home. It was such an incredible experience, and I’m so stoked to hike more!!

feb. 5 (sun.): My host parents took me on a mini trip a little outside of Ålesund and showed me some cool spots :) I’ll have to ask my parents for the names of the places, but we went to an old farm and walked around (it wasn’t really a tourist destination, just a pretty piece of property that you can poke around) and walked along the sea on a boardwalk in another spot. It was really fun to be in their company and explore tucked away parts of Norway that I wouldn’t have the privilege of seeing if I was a tourist. Since it was Sunday everything was kind of sleepy and calm which made it a really enjoyable experience.

feb. 6 (mon.): After a fun weekend I headed back to school to a new class. Like I mentioned earlier, my normal class was in Italy for the past week, so I got to follow the schedule of another class in my grade. I was nervous, but I had a few friends in the class before I joined. Like many experiences I’ve had here, my nervousness for class/introducing myself as the American to a whole new group of people was excessive and eradicated almost immediately after I joined the class. I made some friends (bra jobbe elsa!! 👏🏼 👏🏼) and became close with some people from the class over the course of the week- it’s always nice to have a few more familiar faces in the hallway :)) While Italy looked really fun, it was healthy/rewarding to go a little further out of my comfort zone for the week.

feb. 7 (tues.): On Tuesday I had the opportunity to go alpine skiing for a SECOND time !! A class from the grade above me goes on an annual ski trip to Bjorli Mountain for the day. The person in charge (also my geography teacher) knew I was an avid skier and invited me to join them. At first I was hesitant to go because I had just met my new class and wanted to get to know them better, I didn’t know anyone at all on the trip and I didn’t have all of my gear. However, I was encouraged by many to go, and I decided to join :) I rounded up all needed gear somehow (well with the help of my awesome parents, that’s probs how) and went on the trip. Once we got to the lodge I put my stuff down with a few girls at a table and introduced myself. They were super great company to ski with. It was the perfect day to go skiing- bluebird sky, perfectly firm snow, chilly but sunny, bountiful amounts of corduroy and absolutely empty except for our group. I can’t express in words how utopian the conditions were. The scenery was unreal and the trails were ideal (buy my mixtape on iTunes). I also had totally functioning gear, and while I missed my sharp race edges, corduroy is corduroy (arc city). I’m so so thankful I got to go on this trip- it was such an amazing day for skiing & of course wonderful to meet some more neat people 🙃 🙃

feb. 8 (wed.): A little after middag (dinner) I made American pancakes with my mom ! Apparently the fluffiness of American pancakes baffle Europeans, so she was very curious to try them out. We made them with blueberries, raspberries and chocolate and hot dang they were good!! I hadn’t had pancakes/Vermont syrup in a while, so it was veldig fint å spiser dem med min norsk Mamma! (very good to eat them with my Norwegian Mamma!) Unfortunately we didn’t save any for Helge or Frida, so we will have to make more soon ;))

feb. 9 (thurs.): After fotboll training on Thursday night Frida picked me up and we went to Fjellstua with her (/our 😊) friend Martine. Fjellstua is an outlook in Ålesund City where you can see the whole city, and it’s soo breathtaking. Although Frida stole my Stan Smiths (type of tennis shoe) and I was stuck with my soccer cleats, it was fun to take photos of the beautiful city & share some laughs ❤️ ❤️

feb. 10-12 (fri.-sun.): On Friday night Frida and I went with some family to their hytta (mountain home/cabin) for the weekend to ski some more!! It was a total experience and very, very fun, but I’m going to dedicate another post to it within these next few days :) ❄️

feb. 14 (tues.): Yesterday was Valentine’s Day!! It’s not really celebrated here, but a couple friends and I enjoyed it anyway ❣️

feb. 15 (wed.): And today is the most exciting day of all- HØNEMAMA’S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 Gratulerer med dagen bestevennn ! 😚 😚 🎈 🎂 Takk for alt du gjør for meg :))

Sweet potato brownies (gluten-free)

This sweet potato brownie recipe is gluten-free, grain-free, and extremely easy to make. It’s a perfect healthy dessert option with a bonus dose of nutrients!

Hey hey friends! How’s the week going? We’re just taking it easy over here, and slowly getting back in the swing of life after our amazing Chicago trip. I don’t usually dread Mondays, but it hit me pretty hard this week. We were late for school drop-off and of course I was still in my pajamas. So there ya go. 

I’m still sorting through our Chicago pics and will prob have recap part 2 up on Thursday. I taught two barre classes yesterday, and have gotten back into the usual child wrangling/work/house chores/cooking routine. Madre, Liv and I made tacos with homemade tortillas last night, and even though we’re still a little ways away, I’m already excited for the weekend. A friend suggested a day trip to Tallahassee, and I’ve never been! If the timing works out, it will be a lot of fun to check out a barre class and stop at Trader Joe’s for all of the pumpkin things!! What new holiday items do they have in stock? Any awesome finds lately? (I guess they have a fall salsa that’s calling my name.)

So for today, I have a recipe for youuuuuu. This is based on a fave from the past. It was due for a photo upgrade, so I tweaked the recipe a bit.

I love the idea of using sweet potato or pumpkin instead of starch/fat for certain baked goodies. Sometimes it works surprisingly well and gives it a light sweetness + awesome texture. A great example of this is in these pumpkin chocolate chip bars. If you make one pumpkin recipe, this has to be it!

But for now, we’re throwing a little love the sweet potato’s way with this sweet and gluten-free treat:

sweet potato brownies!!!

If you’re looking for a healthy, slightly sweet treat, this is it! And it has sweet potatoes, so it’s basically like eating a vegetable.

You get a bonus dose of nutrients, and they’re so easy to put together. I usually have a leftover baked sweet potato in the fridge, which is often destined for almond butter and cinnamon. This takes things to the next level with chocolate. When I told Liv I made sweet potato brownies, she was like, “Oooh that’s weird.” And then she ate two.

Here’s the recipe if you’d like to give it a try!

Makes about 12 brownies

Ingredients:

2 cups cooked sweet potato (from one large sweet potato or two smaller sweet potatoes)

1 heaping tablespoon almond butter 

2 eggs

3/4 your favorite dark chocolate bar

1/4 cup almond meal

1/4 cup maple syrup

2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Pinch of sea salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 and grease a small baking dish with nonstick spray. (i used 9×13.)

2. Mix all of the ingredients, minus the chocolate chips, in a mixing bowl until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chips.

3. Smooth the mixture into the baking dish and bake for 22-25 minutes until set. Then, enjoy your vegetable!

“Pretty Little Liars” S7 E12 Recap: These Boots Were Made for Stalking

Previously on Pretty Little Liars, A.D. crafted an elaborate board game for the Liars that shoots out evidence and will most likely murder them all…hopefully before Ezria’s wedding! We pick up with the Liars in Spencer’s barn, eyeballing the board game. They wonder if it’s spying on them, and the answer is YES EVERYONE IS SPYING ON YOU GIRLS AT ALL TIMES WE’VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS NOW. Ali thinks that Jenna built the game, but Hanna reminds them that Jenna is blind and therefore probably can’t build elaborate Jigsaw-like traps for them. Or can she? Hanna put the knife away, we’re playing Hungry Hungry Hippos   Emily emphatically declares that she won’t be bullied anymore as she’s not in high school, and the Liars remind her that she is literally still in high school every damn day. Emily storms out, because she has a faculty parking spot and a whistle dammit, which surely makes up for the fact that she is working in a building that literally told her to ACT NORMAL, BITCH. Great job Emily, way to work it through.  I’m not afraid of prison, I watched Orange is the New Black like, 50 times!   Aria is leaving Ezra’s apartment when she runs into a reporter who wants to cover the Ezra/Nicole reunion story. Aria blows him off and tells him that she’s the only fiancée in Ezra’s life. Later, she meets up with Holden and vents while helping him cook for a rehearsal dinner. If this is building to an Aria/Holden romance, I wouldn’t be mad. Back at Rosewood High for Wayward Lesbians, Emily and Paige are going over the swim team roster. Paige apologizes for the heated meeting with Alison, and Emily reminds her that they all have intense and complicated relationships with each other. Emily tells Paige that she fell for her when Paige told her about Ali’s bullying, which isn’t surprising considering Emily pops a savior boner whenever there’s a girl in trouble. Unfortunately, instead of having this conversation in an office, they’re having it in the locker room, where they are overheard by teen Addison Derringer, aka Ali 2.0. This is why you don’t air your dirty lesbian laundry at work, people! I wonder if there’s this much lesbian drama on the field hockey team?   Over at Casa Hastings, Veronica is trying to mend things with Spencer, despite the earth shattering news that she is not her bio-mom. Spencer calls out her dad for avoiding her, and demands to know how much Melissa knew. Veronica tells her that Melissa doesn’t know her whole origin story, and Spencer shouts that a part of her soul will always live in Radley from whence she came. Back at Rosewood High, Alison is assigning homework and teaching, which is bananas considering she spent her high school years wearing masks of other people’s faces and flying planes into the night. Emily shows up to question Addison about skipping practice, but Addison blows her off with some Ali-worthy high school bitchery. When she leaves, Emily and Alison complain about kids today and Ali worries that maybe the baby she’s carrying that’s half her/half Archer will grow up to be a real jerk. Don’t worry Ali, we all know that baby is half Emily, so it will be a shiny-haired rainbow pony. Emily comforts and hugs Ali, while Addison spies on them and takes pictures. Once again guys, save it for the teacher’s lounge. What if my kid is a blackmailing bitch who blinds people with firecrackers?! As long as she has a winsome lesbian BFF with savior issues, she’ll be just fine   Mona breezes into Hanna’s loft with an armful of dresses she scrounged from Hanna’s closet while she was asleep because, you know, Mona gotta Mona. She shows her the dress that Kate flipped for, but Hanna stares at the dress like she owes it money and refuses her. Mona tells her to get over it and loan the damn dress. If this series refuses to end with Hanna and Mona riding off into the sunset together, I’ll accept Hanna and Mona building a fashion empire. Spencer calls Officer Marco and asks him to help her look for Mary Drake, and reveals that she’s her bio-mom. Hanna feverishly works on her dress, and reveals to Caleb that while she designed it, she took copious notes from her former dragon lady boss Claudia. Caleb tells her to ignore her fears and run with her design. I like how everyone on this show has completely forgotten that he spent all of last season banging Spencer. Like…is that ever gonna come up again? We joke about Caleb being a lesbian, but is there anything gayer than dating your exes friends?   Addison goes to Paige and claims that Emily was hitting on her and behaving inappropriately with the other swimmers. She shows Paige the picture of Emily and Ali hugging, and threatens to go to the principal. Paige confronts Emily, who is furious at the false allegations. Paige tries to be supportive, but reminds Emily that she probs shouldn’t be hugging Alison in a classroom. Emily responds that everyone in town knows her history with Ali, which is simultaneously true and completely bananas. I would love a spin-off of Pretty Little Liars that’s just from the perspective of the other townspeople, with the mailman chuckling good-naturedly while Spencer is running around in the background with a shovel. What’s the matter, Addison? Drugs? Teen pregnancy? Roofied cupcakes?   Also, more evidence that Addison is an amateur: that hug is the least incriminating thing Emily has ever done. Didn’t she hear that she killed a guy? Emily is furious, and refuses to be bullied by a queen bee in the very same high school that bullied her. Paige tells her she’ll coach practice tonight and put out any fires. Aria and Holden continue cooking and talking about Ezra and Nicole. Aria sees an article online about the happy couple getting reunited, and has a mini freak-out, but Holden is able to calm her down and remind her that everyone has a past…except for Aria, whose past is inextricably linked to a sexual predator. But look, they’re making tabouleh and having fun! I’m just saying, if we cooked edibles instead of tabbouleh, we’d make SO MUCH more money!   Marco and Spencer are at the police station discussing Mary Drake, when look who comes tap-tap-tapping in? It’s Jenna Marshall, showing up with a sob story about how Noel Kahn forced her to threaten the Liars at gunpoint. Jenna claims that Noel offered her money for new eyeballs, and Spencer is all YOU LIE! Meanwhile, Emily is at the Brew, where Jenna magically materializes with an entourage. I will never not love Jenna slowly walking into a room to a Liars’ horror, so imagine my delight when she does the exact same thing to Hanna and Mona at Radley, only THIS TIME she’s wearing a rip-off of Hanna’s dress. Mona confronts Jenna and demands to know where she got the dress, and Jenna claims that it was a gift. Hanna tells Mona that it’s all part of the game, and Mona is all, “what game?” because the Liars haven’t told her about it. JFC Liars, loop Mona in already! She’s a genius that is always 50 steps ahead of you! I feel like Mona could take one look at that board game and crack it wide open with only the powers of her mind. Someone give this woman a spin-off! Despite multiple dead bodies in the backyard, this is still a seller’s market!   Meanwhile, Spencer tells her mom that she’s not going to work for her anymore, and Veronica reveals that she’s selling the house. Veronica tells Spencer that she loves her and living there with her children was what made it a home, but Spencer continues to give her the cold shoulder. Veronica tells her that all she ever wanted was for Spencer to feel safe, despite Spencer spending her entire adolescence and adult life in mortal danger. Whelp, she tried? JK, not at all. Emily asks Ali for the spare key to Spencer’s barn so she can go and play the board game. Alison is dubious that the evil game will help Emily or give her any answers, but agrees to go along with her. They arrive to find Emily’s game piece has been moved to the high school, and the phone of doom is waiting for her with a video of Addison making out with her boyfriend and smoking pot when she should have been at practice. Thanks A.D.? They see me tappin’, they hatin’   Meanwhile, Caleb and Hanna have followed Jenna to a shoe repair store, where she is assembling the rest of Hanna’s stolen outfit. While Caleb confronts Jenna, Hanna sneaks into the shoe repair shop, which is dark and creepy and empty. Fun fact: Jenna’s DareDevil-like abilities means she can smell the Liars coming from a mile away! She’s like one of those drug sniffing police dogs, except evil. Hanna wanders into a shoe cage (which is a thing?) and ends up getting locked in because of course she does. She’s then threatened by a whirring sander and a swinging wooden shoe form. I mean, it’s no Radley basement, but it’s enough to trigger her PTSD. Caleb finds her and breaks her out of the cage. Emily confronts Addison with the video of her skipping school, and shows her an email that Addison sent to friends confessing her plans to falsely accuse Emily. Addison is carted off to the principal’s office, while Emily gloats over blackmailing a 10th grader. I guess I should be mad, but that kid is an ass. A.D. texts Emily a congrats for embracing her dark side, and gives her another piece of the puzzle. If you look really closely, you can see tiny models of our moms drinking tiny wines!   Emily places the puzzle piece on the board, and Spencer thinks that it might be a map. But a map to where?!
