Thinking about how the Long Quiet outsources change. As the embodiment of stagnancy, it was never meant to exist on its own, never meant to exist as sentient being which, by necessity, must adapt and change to survive. And it handles this by creating the Voices, mental embodiments of trauma responses and attitude shifts and altered worldviews and everything else, externalized advisors embodying the changes it cannot personally undergo.
It accepts these Voices as guides because it needs them, but it refuses to be altered itself. Each princess and each story bring with it a physical change that horrifies it, and every time, it resets those changes, kills the new voices and returns to its original state. Theoretically, it stays the same as it always was.
But still. As it continues forth, it can’t help but remember. With each story, memory returns. Against its will, against its very nature, it changes, because it isn’t only stagnancy. There is a splinter of the Shifting Mound in there as well.
Thinking about how the Princesses exist as mere facets of the Shifting Mound, how the Shifting Mound is scattered among them because personhood requires a certain amount of stability and stagnancy that she cannot perform all at once. How the Shifting Mound cannot exist as a single, stable perspective because even the continuity of thought is contrary to the concept of change and destruction and evolution and death, expanding always and infinitely and away.
She pulls herself together from limited experiences and ideas, rejecting the possibility of being any single person.
But still. At the end of each story, she greets the Long Quiet, offers it comfort and company in the way she knows how. The progression of their relationship, though it is by necessity a story of change, is also a tale of repetition and familiarity. The Long Quiet asks the same questions. She gives different answers. But it is ultimately the same conversation, again and again. And she is capable of that because she is not just the Shifting Mound – there is a sliver of the Long Quiet in there as well.
And the Shifting Mound is only able to reform itself because the Long Quiet makes different decisions each time, bringing her fresh perspectives – because despite being the manifestation of stagnancy, there is a piece of the Shifting Mound to motivate it. And the Long Quiet is only able to try and remain stagnant because the Shifting Mound is able to wipe its memory and reset it – because despite being the manifestation of change, there is a whisper of the Long Quiet to stabilize her.
They weren’t meant to be separated. They weren’t meant to be sentient. As separate beings, they fail. As separate beings, they greet each other with violence and hunger and desperation – the fury of their essential conflict warring with their frantic desire to be reunited, to never have been torn apart. Two people who never wanted to be people. Two people who want to be the same thing and try again and again to join themselves together through bloodshed and love.
Movements synchronized, moving as one. As if they were still the same being because, in a sense, they are.
There is a reason they always appear to be dancing.

This half-foot. Dandan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks preety similar to this lady here (I'll put them together so you see):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Half-lidded eyes, black hair&eyes, small eyebrows, curly hair... Dandan's skin is lighter probably because of low sun exposure (dungeon), and he has tons of freckles because he preety.
This two are clearly relatives if not siblings.
Tumblr media
Flertom is a mirror image of the lady up there. She got Chil's eyes. She even has almost the same haircut (a bit longer). She's clearly the mother. We've solved Chilchuck's wife mystery.
But this wasn't what I was going to say.
This implies that Wife and Dandan both knew Chilchuck since their childhood. Because there's no way that Chil was just friend of the sister. They're both close to the same age, and I'll say Dandan is a Younger sibiling (she gives big sis vibes, and he gives young bro vibes). So either she introduced him to her brother or he introduced him to his sister and they became best friends as kids.
Could you imagine how their relationship was after Chil's Wife left him?
He knows he has to say something, but he doesn't want to end his relationships. At the end he takes his sister's side. He distances a bit from Chilchuck, calling him an "aquitance" rather than a friend. It isn't that he hates him, is just that it's complicated. And they both know it. They're in good terms tho, they just aren't best friends anymore and they don't talk about it. Their worry is the guild, not their personal stuff.
That's why Dandan introduces Chilchuck to Laios. If they were in bad terms, he would've suggested any other half-foot. They both priorize the guild and general safety of their own race. That's why Dandan suggests Chil instead of a less experienced hafling. He cares about the union and respects Chil's time and experience in dungeons. They're on good terms, at least good enough. Summing up, I get the feeling Dandan doesn't particularly likes Chil after what happened with his sister, but he respects him at least.

👹 gets it. I was thinking of reader watching the relationship between dilf stsg and getting insecure. Like do they baby me because they don't respect me? Why do they treat me different then they treat eschother. So like ome time reader ask just to watch them have sex (for research purposes unfortunately not sexy ones). And they do its a little awkward at first because they keep trying reader in but eventually they get into grove and yeah its different then when you have sex together.
This leads to reader pulling away and the dilfs being soggy panicked sad boys.
-🌌
JEGSJVSJDVDKDHR I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW GALAXYNON I KNOOOOOWWWWW TAT ik it comes off that way but can you blame them??? They're just so giddy about you and eager to make you happy they lose themselves and often are too lost in the sauce to realize how it looks like from a 3rd person perspective:<<< you REALLY have to put in a lot of effort with the dilfs to keep your head above water (milf getohime are the only coddlers that give them a run for their money TvT) like wdym i have to keep my guard up otherwise I'm swaddled in a blanket burrito being spoon fed and cooed at WHAT????? Fuck NO give me a break TAT (<- Lalmb who desperately needs saving)
Ok but setting aside the different dynamics at play, if i haven't made that clear from all the asks and the most recent smut drabble about them...YOU ARE CLEARLY THE FAVORITE TAT you always will be as well like..please...PLEASE they love each other SO SO much, they literally operate as a unit, you are a part of them 1000000% but not merging you in just makes it easier to gang up on you (affectionately ofc) and this is exactly the problem, the difference in treatment.
Ok so hats off,, the absolute DICK on you to straight up ask them if you could watch is just TATATATATAT YOU ARE ADMIRABLE, and they typically wouldn't cave in either, you're in the room and not GETTING THE ATTENTION???? Unheard of. Telling them about your intentions straight up will also not end up in borderline voyeurism either since they think this should be a conversation lol.
And yes, it doesn't go the same way a threesome would, (and that would upset me too ngl TvT) THIS IS SO FUCKING TOUGH!!!!!!! They can't help but treat you that way, you CLEARLY don't like it, and are very prone to just disengaging from them, and they really really don't want you to spiral to the point of ghosting them completely, a conversation needs to be had STAT
Bullet points:
You are an equal
They respect you
The age difference doesn't mean anything
You're heard
We love and care about you and change for you (try at least)

Why did Cas kill Balthazar?
Sometimes I chat with folks and we're surprised to revisit the fact that Cas killed Balthazar in a fit of cruel paranoia before he ever gulped in the soul juice.
Cas is incredibly paranoid when he kills Balthazar, and it was quite possibly one of his worst moments. It seems irrational and mad at the time, but Cas's psyche is actually very understandable. Cas was betrayed by Heaven numerous times from seasons 4-6. That set him up to be backed into a corner.
In early season 4, Heaven drags him in for torture for daring to even consider warning Dean about their corrupt plans.
Uriel tries to kill him and join Lucifer.
At the end of season 4, Cas gets brutally murdered for standing up for what he feels is right. Bazillions of years of military service and loyalty mean nothing to his superiors, and he's vaporized in an instant. He seems particularly betrayed by Raphael.
When Cas returns to Heaven post-Apocalypse #1, he's ashamed that they want to start up Apocalypse #2. He even stands against Raphael at first! Interestingly, Raphael doesn't kill him again but "knocks him into next week." I think this hints that Raphael was at one time fond of Castiel, or else he'd have simply killed him again.
So, angelic civil war.
Cas doesn't go to Dean or Sam or Bobby because he's ashamed of Heaven, and above all, he wants to protect them. Not to mention, he didn't want to make them a target because to angels, they're a relatively soft target. While he's in battle, he can't be there to protect them.
So away, Cas and Crowley go for a SuperMario power-up by tapping Purgatory's battery. Meanwhile, Cas convinces a team of angels to stand with him against Raphael.
Even with his "show of power" via the souls Crowley loaned to him (and I'm guessing Cas can wield soul power in a way Crowley cannot?), that's still a big risk those rebel angels are taking.
And Cas doesn't tell them critical parts of his plan. Because he knows his plan is wrong. He doesn't even tell Balthazar everything. But more importantly, he doesn't trust Heaven. Thanks to what Heaven has wrought, Cas doesn't even trust his rebel angels--the ones brave enough to take on friggin' Raphael with him.
I mean, sure. He was always going to double-cross Crowley, but it didn't even cross his mind to divvy up the soul power with Balthazar or his rebel angels. That's because he's paranoid of them turning on him.
And with what Heaven has thus far shown itself to be...why wouldn't he be?

There really is something about the way that, in the absence of her own children and her grief for them, Ambessa latches onto Caitlyn, this girl she’s supposed to be moulding as her pawn and her puppet and nothing more, and fails to notice that she’s in entirely too deep until she’s been double crossed and she meets the eyes of her protégé across a battle field and can’t hide the genuine betrayal she feels

I feel like my thoughts and opinions on Lu Guang are a little different than a lot of the fanbase and I’m kind of bewildered? I just finished my rewatch of s2 to see if I missed something or misinterpreted something but my thoughts haven’t really changed and I’m just kind of. Confused.

Do you think Mithrun (even if much later on down the line, and also by extension Marcille too i guess?) ever return to a point where he'd be able to develop new desires at an easier rate like he might have in the past, or would he be permanently affected by having lost his previous desires in the first place?
Honestly, I think this is who he is now. I mean, if you think about it, he spent only 140-ish years as his old self and now has several hundred years left. This is now the majority of his future, and while I do think he’ll live well and continue to adapt and experience all the things he deserves, he’s still irrevocably changed.
(I’m making an effort to think about people who have been changed by trauma/accidents/disabilities and I wanna note that those changes arent necessarily bad. Despite everything, it’s still you 🎉 But at the same time I don’t want to ignore/be all sunshine and rainbows/toxic positivity about the difficulties and challenges they face. Sooooo basically, it’s a nuanced kinda thing)
On the developing desires subject, the details are fuzzy tbh. I wish we got more post canon stuff about him. I like to think that he’d make the choice with his desires. He’d choose which ones to cultivate, but even then it’s a struggle. He makes the conscious choice to live everyday. I, personally, don’t think he’d ever return to what one might consider ‘a normal person/life’
That’s not exactly what you’re asking tho, I know. But the subject is so twisty turny and complex that I honestly think his ability to develop new desires would change day by day.
Um if you want my Other opinion, the opinion that’s not affected by rose tinted shipping glasses; he doesn’t spontaneously develop new desires. A lot of them are gone, and he would make the decision to spend the rest of his life with someone simply because he’s comfortable with them, or likes their company, or they make a good team. He’s not unfeeling ofc, but that desire simply isn’t there anymore and he learns to adapt his lifestyle around that fact. There’s nothing bad about that, it just is. I think that’s a lovely thought! But this is just another way to interpret his character ofc and what you choose to believe is up to you.
puts my romance goggles back on
Yeah if you wanna headcanon that he develops new desires and that it gets easier as it goes on, then you go right ahead! That’s also a lovely thought 💕
I personally headcanon that it doesn’t get easier, but he makes the choice to keep going and to live all while developing the odd desire here and there(after a lot of work, which would make it all the more satisfying for him in the end anyway)
There’s good days and bad days! And there’s ants on him.
We’re all just playing dolls tbh, and while we wanna respect all that Mithrun’s canon character represents and stands for… If you wanna imagine him developing new desires at a faster/easier rate, then go for it lol

yummy cupboard pasta from this week
ur gonna want a short pasta shape like penne or farfalle ideally but whatever you've got should work
then shallot or onion, lemon, I used some cheap white wine but you could probably go without, just add some more lemon juice. black pepper, salt, parm, butter, heavy cream. optional bacon and peas.
start a pot of water with salt
brown a tablespoon or so of butter in a pan. if you're using bacon, cut it into 1/2 inch strips, cook until mostly crispy. drain off some of the fat, then mince your shallot or onion, and saute with a little salt and lots of black pepper. you want them to get translucent and ideally have a little color. this is a good time to drop your pasta in the water. if you're using a whole lemon, peel it in big strips with a vegetable peeler. add those in, then add your lemon juice, either all the juice from the one lemon or a couple tablespoons of bottled lemon juice. also add the wine if you're using it. let that reduce for a while, to make sure the alcohol and most of the acid has cooked off. add a little salt.
when your pasta is like. partway cooked, drop the pasta in the pan with the lemon and stuff, then cover with pasta water. wait until the pasta is very nearly al dente. add kind of a lot of cream and peas. reduce again, then add grated parm, and the bacon bits. mix thoroughly, taste for salt. eat it

Fengcui are ridiculous. They're fully making out at this point but they REFUSE to acknowledge it out of pure spite they NEED to get the upper hand the other one must be the one to confess first!!!! Can you imagine? Sticking you tongue 5 inches down someone else's throat and still have the guts to say to THEIR FACE that they're the one coming onto you and you don't get it- have they fallen for you? Ooh how interesting, maybe elaborate on that? No? Well fuck you then. And then they do it again. And then they sacrifice themselves for each other MULTIPLE TIMES. Only to share the most disgustingly sweet romance that is CLEAR to everyone around them yet it remains!!!! Unspoken!!!! Even to each other!!!!
#it's like. no matter how much they progress in the relationship#the game between them never ends#it only takes on different flavor#book seven has been quite 👌 good#I think the decrease in quality in the boling and guangqian arcs were in fact real#but rn book 7 feels a lot like the initial arcs#which to me is delicious#I think either the translator or the author was lost in the transitional stage of the protag's relationship#like Cui buqu#at times#I think he showed an amount of deliberate vulnerability that wasn't worth the gains? then again this is par for the course#I wasn't yelling when they were fake kissing for the job cause it was obviously the only logical way to distract the enemy#so this actually follows the same logic but in that instance I felt like it was detrimental to the integrity of the character's personality#like it felt too indulgent I guess? as a private person myself#I couldn't help but be like 'noo girl your secrets!!!' in the boling arc#also too many characters that were there for no reason#look it wasnt very good ok the villains were all over the place#decision making skills suddenly vanished#also feng xiaolin died?? for no reason at all like why would you kill a beautiful woman.#it made no sense and fhe stalling to get feng ciao agter her body was discovered?? like as a reader#that felt like a disastrously failed mission for both cbq and fx#and then they're like 'they took all of them down!!' bro when??#all they did was run around#tell lies#and kiss#and they're so correct for that but don't go telling me this was a job well done cayse it wasn't!!#that final speech cui buqu gave yang yun? like 'you lost. I set fire to house' like they shouldn't have let him utter a word!#IMMEDIATE arrow launching. like the plot doesn't need to be complicate for me to be believe they're smart. just needs to make sense!#peerless#wushuang
