ive seen a few times in previous years that a lot of fans of translated japanese media would like more direct translations with fewer edits made and "no localisation" and to an extent this could be seen as professional translators being out of touch with what it is their audience wants from their translations

but in my experience its actually more likely to be fans who dont speak japanese and/or have no idea about translation theory or practice and who are just talking out of their asses without understanding the full implications of what theyre asking for

sharing a bed with…hal, barry, roy

finally writing for my faves again!!

these are some quick headcanons i’m writing on a road trip 🧡

including: hal jordan, barry allen, roy harper

Hal Jordan:

• falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow.

• literally, can and will fall asleep in 5 minutes, maybe less

• if you have trouble falling asleep, (like me!) hal will try to stay up with you, but no promises!

• he goes to bed whenever he feels like it, which is usually around 11-2

• literally owns one, sad pillow and a throw blanket. he is a mess of a man!!

• luckily you help him out, he now has 2!!!!!! pillows!!!! and a big fluffy blanket, including his old, semi ratty throw blanket

• he’s okay sleeping with lights or no light. he adjusts very well and quickly, so he’ll sleep with whatever you prefer!

• freaking worst snore-er ever!!! he sounds like a old truck on its last adventure. its loud and obnoxious, but it also ends up feeling like home,

• its like your special white noise lmfao

• only semi cuddly, he’ll reach out to hold your arm in his sleep. he also is a bed hog, get out of his way!!!

• his arms also are wild in his sleep, throwing one over his head, other reaching out for you • likes NO noise when he’s sleep, no white noise, no whirl of fans. silence plz and thanks

• he sleeps very stretched out, takes up most of the bed…

Barry Allen:

• has some trouble sleeping, it takes him around 30 mins - an hour

• he goes to bed at different times, it depends on what he did that day and how tired he is

• one night he goes to bed at 11 and next night he goes to bed at 9!!

• he loves to stay up, limbs tangled with yours as he rambles about stuff to you!!

• he uses a very dim nightlight, if it isn’t bright enough for some light to come in through the windows

• he luckily doesn’t hog the bed or blankets, it’s a perfect split between the two of you

• Barry likes to make tea before bed!! he has all your favorite flavors too

• he always sleeps in cozy, fluffy socks :3

• sleep cuddles!!! expect to wake up in the dead of night to find him draped across you

• follows the no blue light rule before bed, he’s usually winding down at least 40 mins before he plans for sleep

• if he’s really busy on a case or something, he will forget that rule

• he’s a morning bird. he wakes up just a little before the sun, he likes to look at you in your ethereal, sunlight face

• he’s really into doing morning routines together, or just any and all routines together , actually just slowly start incorporating him into your routines

• also I think his temperature would run a little warmer than the average person, so in winter you have a nice heater blanket (barry himself)

Roy Harper:

• he goes to bed usually around 12 pm

• some nights he can pass out within 10 minutes, other nights it takes literal hours. it really just depends on the day he’s had

• when he can’t sleep, he gets up to do something else for awhile, so there’s lots of nights where you wake up and find him in the living room, playing a video game

• he can get around just fine with a wink of sleep, so staying up doesn’t bother him too much

• he snores and drools a lot, you’ll wake up and he’s drooling on your pillow

• he’s a sleep kicker!! you wake up with bruises on your legs and lower back and your just like ???? wtf????

• moves around alot too, won’t stay still and tosses and turns like his life depends on it

• sometimes when he’s really sleepy but just can’t fall asleep, he plays his guitar

• he doesn’t care about the no screens before bed rule, he will watch tv and then go to bed minutes later

• he likes white noise, so he has a box fan on usually, it’s nice in the hot summers

• that being said, he also enjoys sleeping with a window open, the cool air and breeze feels nice and he loves hearing the outside world

• usually sleeps shirtless and it’s hawt 😍

Kyle Rayner!!

• he goes to sleep really late, like around 1 am if not later

• he claims he is his most inspired self at night, at that he either needs to jot down his ideas or start them

• he lays like all cradled up, knees up to his chest, arms cradling his legs

• he drools too :)) but not nearly as much as hal, just little pools

• biggest stinkiest worst blanket hog!! you have a good amount of blankets on your bed and he takes them all for himself!!!!

• he likes to wrap his arm around you before sleep / in his sleep

• sometimes you’ll catch him doodling in bed, leaving eraser bits everywhere (as an artist i draw in bed too, and despise eraser bits)

• big yawns always, stretches and yaaawwwwnns

• play with his hair right NEOW!!!

working on the same comic for over a decade is always a bit strange.. its really super familiar, mundane but its also kinda uncomfortable bc of the creative limitations. you know, youve expended as much as you can give but its still going. and because of that, its always still a new experience. i also feel like im also wearing my old skin from 10 years ago, in some ways.. I feel pretty good about where its all going, where its all ending up (probably?) but its also like damn! still at it huh.. i cannot FATHOM what it would be like to work on the same thing for 20, 30 years or w/e. probably a lot like this but magnified even more. like this story has already been around 1/3 of my life. Which is like.. WTF.. a long time.. I am at least not feeling like i'm living in the fantasy of what it was going to be or could have been because i was always spending that time making it.. those kinds of things never really got to form the same way as like, planning something for years b4 starting. I just leapt right in LOL.. but it still feels weird to like, still be doing it and not sure what will end up being in it for real vrs all you planned. like, there's only so much that ends up making the cut. meeting everyone's expectations, esp your own, on this adventure is a strange feeling to sit with for that long too. like, i really just dont know! hopefully it was fun, however long it goes. the ideas i had for it are just the ones i ended up going with. arc 2 has only really just started so its like.. still a long road ahead.. i have no idea how long it'll take to make even that arc but y'kno.. i might as well! its sure a lot easier to keep going with a story than working to build a new one up TBH. at least the way I uh, tend to build stories. I need them to be a bit worn in for me to figure out what I actually want to do or say. Im REALLY not a pre-planner kind of guy. At least, not at the start. I am more of a planner type now but like. I can’t go into something already knowing it, i gotta experience it a bit to feel like i know what it can actually be first before i plan where the road goes or something. Maybe that’ll change in the future? But i kinda doubt it, from how all my other comic projects (or attempted projects) tend to go. Anyway just thinking about it a lot since this chapter is still kinda just started. I guess its technically a little more than a third done but thaaaat can easily change depending on how scenes actually pan out. I will def not finish it this year, that’s for sure..

I honestly doubt they knew about her, let alone understood the glyphs everywhere. Even if they somehow DID know, GHOST probably just utilized Terratronus to justify imprisoning dozens of transformers; whether they were cons, neutral, or autobots that didn't want to be part of a government mass incarceration and control program. Second Chances - Ch. 2 pt. 1

Description: Agathrio AU / Wagatha - Agatha meets up with Ralph and Jen, runs into a mysterious woman in the bookstore, has dinner with Evanora

Chapter 2: pt.1

Agatha lay there in her queen sized bed cradled in a cocoon of comforters and pillows. Dawn was just beginning to glow on the horizon as she felt a soft thud at the end of her bed followed by the tiny approaching footsteps of Mr. Scratchy, her cat. She peered down and wiggled her fingers inviting him to come and settle on her chest. His little, pointed feet pressed down on her as he made biscuits before settling in with a nice hum of a purr. As she began to scratch him in his favorite spots the tight anxious knot in her chest began to melt away. He always knew when she was beginning to spiral and would come and comfort her. He also knew she happened to be awake which meant he would be fed soon; sooner if he could make himself a nuisance. 

She took a deep breath and stretched her arms out of the covers with a groan. 

“Fine mister, breakfast is on its way.” she told him as she sat up and flung the covers to the side. She slid on a pair of sweats and headed to the kitchen. She prepared his food and started brewing herself a cup of coffee. Though she wished she could sleep longer she did love this time in the morning. Everything was quiet, the world was just waking up and she could feel a sense of peace. She sat with the warm mug facing the floor to ceiling windows of her living room. From here she could look out across the city below her and see it slowly start to wake up with her. 

By 9:30 Ralph had woken and joined her in the living room. 

“I didn’t expect to see you until noon - what time did you end up getting in last night?”

“Ugh, I ended up with a 2 hour delay so I didn’t get here until almost one. But today is a big day! I wasn’t going to sleep it away! Have you eaten yet?”

“No, not at all. Just starting to get hungry.”

“Perfect! Go get dressed, we're going out to brunch. I think I might die if I don’t have a mimosa in my hand within the hour.”

“Give me 20 mins and we can go.”

They headed out to a local brunch spot. As they went inside a familiar face greeted them.

“Happy Birthday, Agatha!” Jen squealed as she rushed to give her a hug. 

“Don’t remind me.” Agatha grumbled as she begrudgingly let Jen hug her.

“Oh, girl, I thought you were over that. We’ve had a blast these last few years.”

“Good to hear, I don’t remember the last few birthdays thanks to you two. I cannot handle the hangover this year. I am officially too old.”

“So what’s the plan for today?” asked Ralph

“Well I’d like to go to the bookstore, I have a sweater to return, and I have to have dinner with my mother at 6.” Jen and Ralph simultaneously gasped. 

“You’re kidding!” Said Ralph “You’re seeing her on your birthday? Do you need some backup?”

“No, I’ll be fine. She says she has something for me. Can’t imagine what it could be so I agreed to meet her. I also didn’t realize she meant today when she asked but I’d rather just get it over with than fight her about it.”

“You are better than me, I can’t stand that woman.” Jen shuttered. 

“At least I have an excuse to leave by 7. Are we still picking you up on the way to the bar?”

“No, I'll have to meet you there. I have a last minute staffing meeting for next week.” Jen said. “But here, I did want to give you your gift now” She handed Agatha a small gift bag. She pulled out 3 items and slowly unwrapped them. The first one was an amber and musk scented fragrance oil that smelled intoxicating, a set of lip sticks, and a vibrator. 

“Jen, wtf?!”

“It has been 7 years Agatha, you need to get back out there and get laid. I do not know how you’ve managed this long.”

“Who's to say it’s been 7 years, I could have had a few one night stands here and there”

“But you haven't, right?”Jen said with a smirk. 

“Oh don’t be so self-satisfied. I’m doing just fine in that department.” Jen and Ralph exchanged looks. 

“Enough about me, what have you been up to, Jen?” 

“Well I’m supposed to go out of town next week but we’re two nurses down during busy season hence the impending meeting.”

“How do babies have a busy season?” Ralph asked

“This time of year we’re getting all the New Years and Valentines babies. Very busy and very unpredictable. Next week we could see anywhere from 10-40 babies born.”

“Horrifying! I can barely imagine even one child.” Ralph said pointedly, eyeing Agatha.

“What about you Ralph? Have you met anyone lately?” Agatha said.

“Ugh, not to say it’s dismal, but this last contract left much to be desired. Too much drama, even for me, which is saying something!” They continued to delve into Ralph’s sordid details as they finished brunch. They all parted ways and Agatha wandered to the nearby bookstore. 

She loved the shops on mainstreet. All the buildings were over 100 years old which made her feel as if she was stepping back in time. She loved to imagine another life she may have lived generations ago, popping into the bakery and butcher shops to do her weekly shopping with a basket. She came upon her favorite shop at the end of the block. It was on the corner made of brick with large display windows. Old scripted letters were etched into the glass displaying the name, Literary Curiosities. As she pushed the wooden door open a bell chimed above her. The smell as she entered the bookshop brought her warmth and calmness. As she made her way through the shop the floor creaked beneath her feet. She took her time browsing the new arrivals, and staff pics. Eventually she made her way up the narrow wooden staircase in the back. 

In the far corner of the small second floor was their selection of poetry. She had many, if not, most all of the few books they had, but would often check to see the new additions. Nothing on the shelves caught her eye this time and she began to make her way back down the stairs. As she turned into the doorway she collided with another person coming up the stairs. The person reached out to grab her as they nearly slipped off the top step. She shrieked as she quickly grabbed the frame of the doorway and prevented both of them from tumbling down the stairs. As her heart was still racing from the adrenaline she caught the woman’s eye, then her heart skipped a beat. A mix of chocolate, amber and honey, they were warm and inviting on the surface but had a burning intensity that made her stomach flutter. The only thing that outshone their splendor was her radiating smile. Agatha took a step back and the woman’s hands fell from around her shoulders. She tried to speak and found herself breathless and stuttering. 

“Sorry, that was completely my bad, I was going too fast up those stairs. I didn’t see you coming at all. You OK?”

Further caught off guard by the woman’s ease and concern she felt panic rising in her chest. Embarrassed and feeling insecure she spat back at her, “You should watch where you’re going. Someone is going to get hurt.” She pushed past the woman, stumbling into her one last time as she rushed back down the stairs. 

She had made it a block before she realized she was practically running. She stopped suddenly leaning against a building taking deep breaths. What the fuck had just happened? Why had she turned into a bumbling idiot? She closed her eyes, trying to crush the memory and the feelings. It was just an awkward encounter with a stranger that she will never see again. It didn’t mean anything. But the woman’s face kept coming to mind. Those eyes, that silky dark hair, and she smelled… like fresh rain and earth with a hint of incense and honey. She opened her eyes and shook her head letting out a frustrated sigh. She took a deep breath and began to walk back to her car, telling herself she wouldn’t remember this in the morning. 

She quickly ran and returned the sweater and then rushed home to get ready for dinner with her mother. Her mother; a woman she definitely needed time to mentally prepare for. Evanora was a brilliant and ruthless woman. Co-Founder of the New Horizons Baptist Church, Evanora judged Agatha through the eyes of a wrathful God. Agatha was required to excel academically, maintain a rigorous extracurricular schedule, as well as manage the home chores and church youth community. Her only saving grace at the time was Violet. They had grown up as practically sisters, her family being among the first congregation. They were close and would share their hopes and fears. As they entered high school they were nearly inseparable, and the likely choice to lead the summer youth church camping expedition. 

The 3 night backpacking adventure was a test of their survival skills and intended to bring them closer to God in their suffering. 12 in total they were paired off with limited supplies and each other. They led the pack through mountainous trails, stopping each night to make camp. On the last night as everyone else trailed off to bed she and Violet sat around the fire, telling each other stories and gossiping about the church elders. As the night thickened and the air got cooler they moved closer, sharing each other's warmth. Eventually she found Violet’s arm wrapped around her shoulders, their heads leaning against one another as they stared up at the stars. 

“I don’t think I’ve ever known or loved anyone as I have loved you.” She remembered Violet whispering into her ear. Agatha stared into her emerald green eyes as they flickered in the firelight. Their faces inching closer with every breath. Before she realized it she had closed the distance between them, her lips now pressing against Violet’s. They stayed connected for a moment until they heard the snap of a branch behind them. 

“What are you doing?” came the panicked voice of another camper. The girls quickly separated creating a large distance between them. 

“Nothing” muttered Violet. Agatha was too stunned to speak. 

“You two are heathens, wait until the elders hear about this.” 

“Please…please don’t tell my mother.” Begged Agatha

“And now you’re tempting me to lie? I’ve always known you were wicked. I will not let your immorality corrupt me. Prepare to face the consequences of your actions.” 

From that moment on she never said another word to Violet. Upon their return Agatha planned to talk with her mother but she never got that chance. The other girl had immediately cornered Evanora and the pastor who were now glaring at both the girls. Evanora stormed over and grabbed Agatha by the arm pulling her away toward the car. As soon as both the doors were shut Evanora began her tirade. 

“I should have known from the very beginning. You and that girl were always entirely too close. I’ve sensed this wickedness in you from the beginning and I prayed that God would have taken you at birth rather than have you cursed as such. I don’t know what I’ve done to have angered him so to give me you as a daughter. The shame you have brought upon me, upon yourself, and upon this church. I cannot allow you to return until these maladies are driven from your spirit.”

“Mother, what are you saying?” Agatha cried out as tears began to form

“You are going away.”

“Where? For how long?”

“I’m sending you to a camp that specializes in eradicating this wickedness. When you’ve completed the program you will finish out your schooling at Massachusetts Reformatory for Girls.”

“Boarding School? You mean I won’t graduate with my friends?”

“My dear, you’ll be lucky to graduate at all! If you think my expectations have been unreasonable, this convent will surpass your wildest expectations.”

Agatha managed to survive her final years in the most oppressive boarding school at the top of her class. She applied on her own to New Jersey State, intentionally selecting a state school as she knew this would anger her mother the most. From there she was entirely on her own, free to finally explore herself and her sexuality. When she eventually met and married Wanda, Evanora declared the daughter she had was dead, declining to ever meet the woman, which was for the best. Agatha had done all she could to write the woman off and this gave them a clear break. Eventually Evanora got word of Wanda’s disappearance and sent Agatha a congratulatory card claiming God was giving her a second chance to redeem herself, now was the time to come back to the church. This, Agatha ignored, throwing the card out immediately. On and off since, Agatha would get congregants visiting her door, offering to take her to church. If they were lucky she would ignore them. If not, they would get the brunt of the anger and resentment she still held for her mother.

Then, a month ago, she got a text message from an unknown number:

Agatha, this is your mother. I need to see you, I have something for you. This is important, do not ignore me. 

Her mother didn’t text. She didn’t realize she even had a phone, let alone Agatha’s number, but she wasn’t surprised. Evanora had always kept tabs on Agatha’s life somehow. She didn’t respond. A week later she received another text.

Agatha, are you seeing this message? It is important that we get together soon. Call me at this number. 

Again, Agatha ignored the message. She had nothing to say to her mother and nothing she could think of that her mother would offer her. Then finally a week ago she got a voice message. 

“Agatha, this is your mother. I now know this is the correct number! I need to see you dear, it’s about your grandfather, he’s left something for you and I know you’ll regret it if you ignore this. Call me back when you get this.” She stood in her kitchen stunned. She hadn’t heard her mother’s voice in nearly a decade. She hadn’t known her grandfather had passed or when, though given his age she wasn’t surprised. They had always shared a special connection as he was the only person who showed her any true form of love and kindness. If it was truly on her grandfather’s behalf that was different and she owed it to herself to see this out. 

It still took her two days before she shakily redialed her mother’s number, a glass of wine in hand. 

Ring…ring…ri “Hello, Dear! I’m surprised I’m finally hearing from you. How have you been?”

“What do you have for me?”

“Ah straight to the point, I see. Well, you know your grandfather passed and he’s left me a few items to give to you and some documents to oversee. I’d love to meet on Friday to go over everything. I’ve made reservations at 6 for us at La Fete de Nuit. You still live in Westview, dear?”

“Yes, mother.” She sighed “Fine I’ll see you at 6” She hung up the phone then chugged the glass of wine. Better to get this over with than draw out what was likely to be a disastrous encounter. Only when Ralph was confirming birthday plans the next morning did she realize she agreed to meet with her mother on her birthday. 

As she was getting ready the day of, did she realize she wasn’t going to be changing after dinner before the drag show and would just have to wear her birthday outfit to dinner. She had picked out a lavender cowl neck dress with spaghetti straps that flowed down just above her knees. The top was fitted but draped around her chest. She wore a silver charm around her neck that featured the 3 graces and dark plum strappy heels. Her hair was long, down around her waist, and tousled in beachy waves. She finished her makeup off with a dark plum lipstick from Jen’s gift. She opened the amber oil and took a whiff, it was sweet and musky with a hint of spice. Definitely something she wouldn’t have picked out on her own but as she put it on, realized it really suited her. 

She looked at the clock, 5:45, shit she was going to be late. She quickly grabbed her long navy trench coat and her purse and headed out the door. She drove in silence as she armoured herself for the stress she was about to undergo. She pulled into the parking lot and as she turned off the engine took a deep breath. 

In and out, rip it off like a bandaid. She told herself. It’ll be over before you know it. She swung her car door open and headed inside. She walked up to the host stand, “2 under Harkness I believe?” She glanced around the restaurant checking to see if she could catch sight of her mother before Evanora found her. As she caught sight of her mother at a far table she could hear the hostess say,

“I have a Harkness for 4 right this way.” 4? Who else would she have dragged to this dinner. She regretted ever agreeing to this, it was obviously some sort of trap. For what, she wasn’t entirely sure yet, and to use her grandfather’s death as a ploy to see her?! She could feel the fury building inside her as they approached the table. She could now see a man and another woman sitting with her mother.

Sit down dear we were just about to order.” Christian, because of course his name was Christian, stood up and pulled the seat out for her. She strained every muscle in her face not to roll her eyes at the gesture and instead shared a half smile. She hadn’t looked at the menu but knew she didn’t need to, her mother had a terrible habit of ordering on her behalf. It didn’t matter though, she was planning to eat and debrief with Ralph afterward. 

“So Agatha, your mother tells us you now work with the symphony?” Janice inquired, trying to strike up conversation.

“Yes and no. I support their marketing team and am a donor engagement coordinator for Music Hall. I manage a lot of independent events and fundraisers.”

“Oh that sounds exciting. And they pay you to do that?” Janice followed up. Agatha, once again restraining the rage inside her, checked her watch. 6:10. Honestly a record for how quickly dinner with her mother could derail.

“Yes ma’am. I have a whole salary with benefits and everything.” She said with as much sincerity as she could muster. 

“Oh, that must make it difficult to find a man and settle down. I’ve heard you’ve not had good luck in that department.” Wow the sheer audacity of this woman. But somehow, knowing Evanora, this wasn’t entirely a surprise. This is what she had dragged her into. She reached for a wine glass that wasn’t there, of course there was no wine. She, instead, grabbed the glass of water and took a few gulps. 

“Oh, I’ve had my ups and downs there. MOTHER, you mentioned items from grandad? Can you tell me about that now please?” Desperately trying to move the conversation in any other direction. 

“Oh yes dear, your grandfather, rest his soul, has recognized you in his will.” She gestured at Christian to take over the details. 

“Your grandfather has left you the estate in Boston, including all items found within.” She sat frozen, staring questioningly at her mother. 

“Why me? Why not you?”

“If I could only ask your grandfather that very question! In his infinite wisdom he left everything to you.”

“I don’t know that I even want that!” She exclaimed

“Don’t be so insolent!” She snapped “You should be grateful!” She glared at her mother before turning to Christian.

“What happens if I don’t accept?” 

“He has instructed all items, including the house, to go to auction should you be unable or unwilling to inherit.” 

“So you get nothing either way.” She directed to Evanora. She could see the anger and resentment filling her mother’s face.

“Despite the care I provided that man throughout his life he has tossed me aside in favor of you. However undeserving, and ungrateful you may be.” Glaring at her mother she began to rise from the table, deciding it better to walk away than encourage this behavior further. 

“Agatha, sit!” Her mother commanded. As a reflex she returned to her seat silently. “Whether you accept the property or not we cannot finalize your grandfather’s estate without executing these documents and since you are still living you are required for that.” Christian opened a manilla folder he had brought, handing over a series of documents to Agatha. 

“I don’t have time to read through all of this tonight and I’m not signing anything I haven’t fully read.”

“You are more than welcome to take them with you; however, you should be aware there is a 30 day window from receiving these documents in which the parties must accept or decline and sign, otherwise you automatically forfeit any rights to the inheritance. My, uh, my phone number is on the front when you’re ready to return everything, give me a call.” Christian said with a wink. Agatha swallowed to keep herself from vomiting. 

“Is that all?” Agatha questioned her mother 

“Well dear, it has been quite some time since we’ve seen each other, thought you might like to catch up.”

Those stuffed animals were so cute that I immediately went to the store to order one! But before I did I, like I usually do when finding new online stores, looked around to see what else they sell. I like doing this just to see if the items are really mismatched or if the other listings seem to be lower quality than what I'm trying to order. Well, the store, called Lavender Creations, seemed to offer a lot of items I saw on places like Alibaba or Temu. In fact, the mushroom purse they sell is one my sister bought off of Aliexpress. No worries though, artists oftentimes get their creations ripped off by dropshippers and their ilk so wasn't a death knell but definitely was a red flag. This led me to check it on scamadvisor and whoo boy.

It scored 36/100. The site has existed for years and it has a SSL but I wasn't worried about the site being a scam that'll steal my credit card info, I was just trying to figure out if it was a dropshipper and welp. One of the negative reviews stated that the supposed flash sale was in fact a daily sale (and I can confirm since me writing this post took long enough that the sale that was supposed to end at midnight is still ongoing despite the fact it's currently 1 AM). That was a dead ringer that this site most definitely wasn't the original creator or at least someone reliable. So, google lens it was for a reverse image search aaaaand

yeah ok unsurprising. Will say, none of these listings have the black & white one I was going to buy and that the dandelionevine was the only other one to sell the white version but also it's selling them for $60 which is way more than lavender constellation that sells them for $44 or $30 with the "sale". Also, amazon link is dead unfortunately because it supposedly was being sold for $25, the cheapest yet.

Now, if this was simply just a case of dropshipping then I would've left it at my reblog I made warning others about it BUT there's that first listing, Plush This?? They're the reason I'm making this post.

WHAT??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WAS DESIGNED BY AI????? THIS IS A CAN OF WORMS I DIDNT PLAN TO ENCOUNTER????? Apparently, that's their whole thing: let AI design a plush and then recreate it which is honestly a really cool concept if AI wasn't known for literally stealing others' work (I'm ignoring the fact it would also mean it takes designers' jobs, which is also a shame).

If the AI was ethically trained then I suppose it counts as an original work? It's a bit of a grey area since no one actually owns the likeness of a cat (not yet at least) and plenty of artists create their own works by referencing others. So, who's to say an AI doing the same thing is unethical? I mean, there's a real human effort being put into realizing an imaginary item because this doesn't seem to be the usual AI scam of rendering an image and pretending it's genuine to generate purchases. But that ignores the fact there are limitations to artists on what they can produce (copyright laws exist and fair use clauses do too). So AI shouldn't be exempt from giving its fair dues to the people it should be "inspired" by and it should also be punished if it steals like a human does. Plus, the current state of AI is a lot more like replication than anything near inspiration so really that question cannot be applied in the current generation of AI.

There's one giant elephant in the room I haven't addressed yet: who is to say that the cat plush isn't based on some niche Etsy creator who had their creation ripped off by the AI model? Idk how it was taught so idk if the images were ethically sourced and thus if my money is going into a design that hasn't been stolen in some way. I'm sure they gave the AI a bunch of reference images of a Devon Rex from different angles and told it to make it a stuffed animal. But was the AI fed ethically sourced references of what is a plush? Or was it given Etsy and told to go ham in copying everything??

And, if the AI model WAS trained with stolen images, how awful really is the dropshipping aside from the ungodly prices?? I mean, my usual issues with dropshipping are: they try to sell junk for obscene prices, original works are reproduced without permission, & the profits of the original creator are stolen. But which of those issues are applicable in this scenario? The original work is seemingly high quality as implied with the reviews I see on Lavender Constellations & Plush This, so not all listings are churning out low quality crap, meaning the first issue is resolved. I mean, if people are receiving quality items that they feel is worth the price then there isn't any issue in that department. But those last two issues I have are the kicker, who is the original creator in this scenario?? Is it Plush This or is it the amalgamation of artists that go uncredited?? If the former then, yeah, these sites should not be selling their work. Yet, the latter seems much more in line with what I know about how AI is trained: unabashedly scanning and copying others' works without consent or compensation. Thus, I don't really feel too badly about it being resold on so many stores. It's already stolen work so they're all thieves to me.

Man, idk. It's unfortunate AI isn't simply a tool and the current state of things have festered and spread thanks to the lack of regulations. I imagine the AI models we have today that are made of stolen artworks will just be the concrete foundation and people wont see reparations for their work. Kinda one of those "them's the breaks (brakes?) kid" where laws will come into place that'll prevent AI from stealing others works. The question is will the people it already stole from be repaid? Or will they just have to live with the fact that the AI modules that are common use have stolen their work and wont stop continuing to profit off of that theft into the foreseeable future?

All of this is to say I'm not even sure if Plush This is the real creator!! I know I said I was almost certain they were but that's really only because the whole marketing scheme of their site is that the plushes they create are based off AI generated images and that kind of statement is too specific to only use as a selling point.... right?? Well let me start with this:

So, yes, according to Leila Wang, creator of PlushThis (why no spaces?), everything is AI to physical. Grand. Don't get me wrong, that's a real skill thats being just wasted imo, but back on track. Scamadvisor gives it a 90/100 but only gives one review as an example when most of the listings have reviews, which is odd. This part is literally just me putting on a tinfoil hat so take the bit with a grain of salt, but I think they're having their AI write their reviews. They're all very,,, bland? I don't know if anyone has played that website game called "Human or Not" but the reviews are giving AI. As an example, here's the listing for a dragon plush they have:

It's a strange mix up to have when it's very clearly white. Worth noting they also sell a green dragon plush.

Also, the rest of the comments tend to usually have a comment on how soft they are? And if not that then how high quality the fabric is. And they all have the same grammar with what I think the nail in the coffin being the fact not a single review has missed adding at least a period to the end of the last sentence. Yes, that level of proper grammar isn't uncommon,,,, but for every single review??? Yeah, I'm not buying it. All this added to the fact Scamadvisor only pulled one positive comment out this sea leads me to believe these aren't real reviews and are just HTML code or whatever tf.

Ok, whatever, site is faking reviews with AI and staged photos. Big whoop, just don't buy from them,,,, WELL this is all going back to how I'm not sure PlushThis is the real creator of that cat plush. Tbh what I think is happening is a mix of dropshipping and "orginal" plushes. Why?

So, what does this mean? I think it means that the cat more than likely IS a dropshipped item THAT THEY DIDNT CREATE??? Which is crazy because the blurb attached to it is one of the few times they mention in a listing that the stuffed animal started as an AI image. In fact, that blurb is what caused me to spiral down into this!! IT ALSO THROWS OUT MY PREVIOUS STATEMENTS ABOUT THE ETHICS OF ALL OF THIS!!! It states that the supplier is the whitebeard' store on aliexpress. Now, this could always be a ripoff of PlushThis' original creation but I doubt they're the original creators at this point. Since every creation's first image is AI, that either means they didn't share the AI image, their whole gimmick, or it wasn't designed by AI and thus couldn't provide a generated image. So, the next course of action was seeing if Taihua Toys Hong Kong Co, PlushThis' parent company, is related to any of the sellers on other sites and that's too tall of an order for me. That's a way bigger deep dive than I'm capable of in this moment, but if I ever do try and see if I can confirm my suspicions, I will reply to this. Hopefully soon since a lot of the sites listed when I reverse image searched the cat no longer have it for sale. Is it possibly a parent company trying to clean up the internet and make it less obvious the item is actually cheaply mass produced?? Who knows, not me.

Fear level counting: Polo Club part 2

Upon getting to setting your own horse ready, giving it a treat at any point (except bad result of the accident) will lower your fear score with -1 per treat. And just as with Foreshadow, the option of giving the entire bag of treats at once is worse, as it gives only -2 fear regardless of how many carrots your horse munched down. Also, patting your horse won't lower the fear score, smh.

Once shit hits the fan and creepy noices start, you get mandatory +1 fear and additional +1 for fear phobia.

Walking to the sound (#Iiiiiii waaaaalk towards the soooooound. or its fucked up version) reduces the score with -1 but increases corruption.

Hiding or getting the fuck out of the trailer (#I hide in the tiny tack room. or #I dive out the back end of the trailer., both unavailable with active possession or greed vice) will increase fear with +1 because why not.

All while poking your head out to look closer (#I poke my head out the window to see what's really going on outside., unavailable with active possession or fear phobia) will somehow give you -1 fear. Don't choose this option though, as it gives a whooping +3 corruption, denial increase and instant possession.

During Pippa accident (see the guide for more details), bad outcome with dead Pippa gives +1 fear. There is an additional +1 unless MC is a paramedic, police officer, not-possessed with corruption score lower than 4, or simultaneously has low scores of sass (30 or lower) and sweetness (lower than 20).

Some may increase with even further +1 (and also increase corruption) by choosing to look at the incident scene afterwards (#I turn to look, there's nothing there I haven't seen before.), but this option has a lot of conditions to be pickable:

either be a paramedic or have the accident as your childhood have non-critical corruption score (less than 7);

don't have blood phobia;

don't have fear phobia.

Good Adrian's save with light injures (achievable if you fed Foreshadow but didn't gave him all your carrots) reduces your fear with -1. Note that this reduction works only if Adrian went to save Pippa without MC's help and didn't get too hurt in the process.

During post-accident conversation (only when Pippa isn't dead) asking about the strange shadow (#"Did anyone else see that strange thing on the hill?") and backtracking (#It was probably nothing at all, after all.) gives -1 fear but increases denial.

Saving Pippa with flying colors at your first attempt (#I loop the reins around my left hand and lean as far to the right as humanly possible as I reach for Enchanter Moon's bridle.) will reward you with -3 fear. It becomes -2 if you save Pippa on your second attempt, and -1 if it's Adrian who catches the horse reins after you fail to do so at your first attempt and back off.

Embodying a meme of it's-fine-dog after abandoning the chase (#Actually, what the hell am I doing? I drop back to a sensible pace and let Adrian attempt the rescue instead. followed by #In the end, everything turned out perfectly fine.) gives -1 fear and denial increase.

Ignoring Pippa accident (#I ignore everything else and keep my eyes riveted to the lurching void that shambles ever closer., the only available option if your fear score is 10 or more) will make further stat checks even harder by increasing the score with +1.

If Pippa survived her accident, returning to the trailer and untacking your horse gives mandatory -1 fear. If any of your carrots survived till this point, and your horse wasn't spooked too badly, you get to enjoy additional -1 (this time for all treats at once).

Helping Ash to clean up horses' shit gives -1 fear.

Being extra spooked (#Suspiciously look over everything in sight.) can give you -1 fear as well, but it requires medium sass (less than 71) and caution score (less than 6). On the other hand, it decreases your denial.

Checking the outside of the trailer gives +1 fear. You can kind of negate it with -1 fear during dicussion of wtf happened with the trailer if first you go with your crazy theory as the explanation (requires to create that theory in the conversation with Adrian at the start of polo route) and then choose #And on cue, on the count of 1, 2, 3… or #Somehow I sense that I only have to bide my time and wait to be proven victorious here. If you don't have any theory prepared, you can get the same -1 with a "reasonable" guess (#Yes… the impact from a car crash. That sounds perfectly reasonable.), but guess what: it increases your denial.

After the club, accepting the drink from Adrian with gratitude (#Accept the drink with a word of thanks. or #Accept the drink with a nod of thanks.) gives you -1. While vocal suspicion (#Stare suspiciously at the drink. "Yeah, no thanks.") gives +1.
