Just finished reading 'Idylls of the Queen' by Phyllis Ann Karr, and if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend. Firstly, our boy Kay is the main character and is his usual grumpy old man self and it's fantastic. Her Mordred is one of the best I've read, and it happens after Camelot is well established so all of the knights are older and have sons and grudges running around. To top it all off, the big climax at the end was perfect, and I mean PERFECT. I loved it.

Headcanons about Canon and not AUs for once in my life

You know how in TDR, they have that really zoomed out shot at the end of the chase before Karr careens off a cliff where they do a bit of an Oopsie.  That oopsie being “there is a very clear way out of this situation.  that way is turning left instead of right.”

And you know how in KvK, Karr’s self preservation programming is basically thrown out the window?  So that they could throw model cars at each other or sumn I’m not being sarcastic there’s actually a few split seconds where you can see them throwing model cars at each other it’s so freaking funny I highly recommend going back and looking for it if you didn’t see it, it’s like behind the explosion I think, idk the exact timing bc it’s been a while but Yeah

Well.  The IRL explanation for these things is almost definitely “because it looks cool”, and I’m definitely making way more of it than there is, but behold.  I have basically informed my opinion on Karr’s personality (behind the whole scared for his life thing) from these things.  Because, as a hyper-intelligent AI, he really shouldn’t be able to make these sort of “dumb” mistakes, right?

The best I’ve got, then, is that he’s a LOT more influenced by emotions than Kitt is.  I don’t know whether I’d go as far as to say that he experiences them MORE, because Kitt clearly does have them... I think he’s just more cautious by nature, so he doesn’t really let himself act on them much.  Karr, though?  He’s impulsive, and easily swayed off course by panic, anger, sadness, etc.  That’s why, despite being just as smart as Kitt is, he often makes far less rational decisions.

He drove off a cliff because he was so scared that he just acted on impulse without doing any of the AI rationalizing stuff we’re used to seeing from Kitt.  If he’d have cleared his mind enough to scan ahead and process the routes as he drove, he would have made a different decision.  That’s Kitt’s biggest advantage in their fights, and it would be his greatest contribution if the two were ever to team up; both of them can smash things, but only one of them can work properly under pressure.

Even down to his programming--code can be changed, so it’s not the law that we often think of it as.  It’s just a very, VERY strong suggestion.  Kitt has never tried to change it; he’s never even CONSIDERED it.  Karr, though?  He reached his breaking point.  The thought of continuing to live his life on the run, unable to trust anyone or stay anywhere, was enough to drive him crazy.  He COULDN’T bring himself to continue with FLAG--and specifically Michael and Kitt--constantly on his tail.  So, he snapped and overrode his very foundation.  He’d either get rid of them or die trying.

That’s probably the core of why Devon was so scared of him, without providing much of a concrete reason.  Because Karr’s unpredictable, far closer to human than they’d ever expected him to be.  Even when he was on their side, they didn’t think they could trust him not to change his mind, or make a snap decision that endangered everyone involved.  I think he could have gotten control of it over time, but it definitely makes more sense that they wouldn’t want to work with him in this state.  Their response to it is still immoral imo, but if they didn’t fully realize his sentience and just saw it as a programming fluke, then I could see where it seemed necessary.  Especially if an accident like that had already happened... Not gonna elaborate on that here; I’ve made a post about it, and tbh I probably shouldn’t have because it wasn’t my idea in the slightest.  It’s just such a good headcanon that I basically adopted it immediately AHSIDO (Yes I did credit the fren in the original post, but it still just wasn’t the ideal way to go about it tbh, that’s why I’m not linking either.  If you really wanna scroll for it, it is still there so go for it ig best of luck to ye IASHDOHSA, but otherwise it’s really not mine to tell)

Headcanons that are so extremely Not Canon / for AUs

While the Karr that is in canon hasn’t had much time to be in the world, and thus is far less worldly than Kitt is, I would think that it would come much more naturally to him than his brother if given the chance.  I mean heck, he developed a whole salesman personality underwater sooo /lh  That probably means that he also does that copying thing really well, too.  Like, how Kitt picked up on the Trucker jargon that one time and got excited and parroted it for a bit... it happens pretty often, but that’s the clearest example I’ve got right now oops.  Anyway, I think Karr does that, too, but incorporates it in a somewhat more stealthy way.  Because if he messed up people will be Trying to Murder Him Again.

All I’m saying is.  One of them might have a chance of understanding meme culture and that one sure as heck isn’t Kitt.

Like, I actually think that Karr and Michael would have... shockingly similar personalities if Karr actually got to understand the world and himself better?  If they’d stop hating each other for a second, I think they’d get along really well.  Both loyalty driven, both impulsive due to emotionality, both sometimes make dumb decision because they just care too much... bothwouldprobablydieforKitteventhoughhedhateit oops what’s that my brothers bias showing????

Anyway, how this applies in Human!AU is that Karr can blend into human life really well.  Like, he’s just as curious and unsure as Kitt is, but he quickly picks up on the basic behaviors that people around him are routinely using and integrates them so as not to stick out.  And then, as time goes on, he just would kind of figure out what it all means himself, to the point where he’s reverse engineered how to be human with quite good accuracy.  Whereas Kitt is always very curious and is quite open about it, because why wouldn’t he be y’know he’s not used to hiding, so he’d probably stand out a lot more at first if he didn’t have Michael there to do most of the talking and explain things for him.  Idk if that makes any sense but yeah.  I just love the thought of Karr actually being the knowledgeable older sibling because he’s had much more time to adjust to his new form, and like he actually has a whole life of his own going on that he’s basically just disappeared into until Michael and Kitt show up.  Kitt asks him stuff, and he almost always has an answer.  On occasion, those answers are confidently incorrect.  But he’s trying OAHSDOIHSA

Also Karr and Michael bickering about basically everything, things that don’t matter in the slightest, while Kitt’s just standing there making sure it doesn’t go too far.  The second it starts going south “Why does it matter anyway?” and everyone’s just dead silent.  It didn’t matter they just had a bad case of the Himbos.

Like, it’s pretty easy to forget that Karr’s an AI after you’ve been talking to him for a while.  But then you ask him something when he’s not worked up about anything, and he provides this Giggachad Massive Brain response and it’s like “oh YEAH”

Love Language

BECAUSE WHY NOT

Actually tho, I genuinely think love language is so important to his character specifically.  You can take it as romantic if you want, that’s not how I personally mean it in this case tho.  I mean how he addresses the people that he cares about, no matter what the nature of it is.

See, a lot of the (in my mind) misunderstandings about his character stem from how he acted whenever he got a new pilot.  Like, with Tony and Rev, it could be easy to think that he was being walked all over by them and that he was entirely aimless.  It would also be easy to think that, no, he did have a motivation, because he wanted to steal things + kidnap people.  Same with John to a lesser extent, because John never told him to do the bad things, just also didn’t really try to get him to do good things either.  So surely Karr chose to do bad because he really, really just wanted to?

But I think that, while it doesn’t excuse his bad decisions (ESPECIALLY not the ones that put people’s lives in danger), a lot of it can be explained by love language.  Karr, simply put, has the Acts of Service love language.

The reason Karr let Tony and Rev direct him however they wished is because, after they inadvertently rescued him from deactivation, he felt indebted and was genuinely grateful.  He showed it by DOING whatever they asked of him.  And all he hoped was that they would get him help in exchange, which they did in about the most awful way possible but yeah.

And then John came along, and Karr is DESPERATELY trying to do the same thing... John never asks for his help with, anything really, but Karr is proactively trying to get him to ask for something.  Doesn’t matter what, he’ll do it.  It becomes increasingly frustrating when his acts of service aren’t seen as good enough, when he technically had what he needed but was still sorely lacking a friend.  And then he started going to truly awful extremes to show through ACTION that he was a loyal friend, that whether John thought he needed a companion or not, he’d be there, he PROMISED.

He also, to a somewhat lesser extent, takes action against those who have wronged him, as if to say “I’m done caring, and I’ll SHOW you how”, y’know?  A lot of it was out of self defense, but still important to mention ig.

You could say that this is due to the nature of them being AIs right, like built to provide a service from the beginning so I’m SURE they do feel that way yea.  However, I honestly feel like Kitt would express care through basically anything other than that.  Like, acts of service are the bare minimum, he’d do THAT for anybody because he was made for it.  If he goes out of his way to spend time with you, though--or in an human!AU, if he leans into a hug--then he really does care.  So, I really am not just defaulting to this.  I think Karr specifically thinks of it as more than his obligation, it’s his great joy to show how much he cares.

Star Wars Characters I want to meet

Ahsoka and Leia/Luke - just imagine Ahsoka telling them about Anakin. Imagine her teaching Luke about the force and telling him about the jedi temple. Just imagine her being the best big sister to both of them. She could tell them about Padmé too.

Leia/Luke and Sabé (and the other handmaidens) - nobody knew Padmé better than Sabé. Everyone would be tripping over themselves to tell the twins about Anakin. Luke met Anakin. And I can't see Leia ever really forgiving him. They deserve to hear about their mother too. Obi Wan too. (Of course Breha was an incredible mother to Leia I'm not disputing that)

Luke and Ezra - they were born on literally the same day! They're both jedi. They both grew up on outer rim worlds before being whisked off on a grand jedi adventure. Ezra and Leia have already met. Maybe she told Luke about him. Maybe Luke will want to meet him after Ahsoka and Sabine find him.

Leia/Luke and Rex - can you tell I just want Luke and Leia to meet the people who should've been their family? Uncle Rex!! Telling them war stories and about how dumb their dad could be. And making sure Ahsoka doesn't get away with her eternally serene look - she was just as wild as Anakin at times.

Karr (from Force Collector) and Rey - obscure as hell I know but this boy has been studying the jedi order. He can see the past of objects and help Rey rebuild the jedi order.

Finn and Kix - again kinda random but just think about how protective Kix would be of Finn. Another kid who had to grow up without a name. That makes him a vod. Kix lost all his brothers but maybe he could find a new one in Finn.

Kix and the kids of clones - I know these characters don't really exist that we know of (aside from Cut Lawquane's kids and that one guy in Force Collector who never even knew his dad) but the guy in Force Collector is proof the clones could have kids. I just want a kid of a clone, one who actually knew their father, and for Kix to meet them and find out at least one of his brothers got to be happy. His brothers live on.

Hera and Han - ok doesn't really count because they have met in a Forces of Destiny short but that was a good interaction and makes me want more of their rivalry.

Ezra and Eli - they would tease Thrawn so much. Eli isn't a bad person just imagine the surprise for Ezra when Eli shows up and just starts roasting Thrawn. And Thrawn not killing him for it.

Poe and Jacen (and Hera) - do I want Hera to have trained Poe - yes. Do I want Poe and Jacen to have been childhood friends - also yes. Do I just want more Jacen content - also yes. Let's be honest Jacen will be an amazing pilot so him and Poe would be great friends. The big question is of course is Jacen force sensitive?

Ezra and Jacen - they never met!!! Ezra never met his baby brother!!! If Jacen is force sensitive it would only make sense for Ezra to train him when he gets found. Admittedly though, the fact that Rey is the last jedi is kind of worrying? Like did something happen to the others - not the ones who were at Luke's academy, the ones who were older like Cal and Ezra and even Jacen.

Quinlan and Luke - ok hear me out Luke knew Obi Wan for like 5 minutes. To him he's some wise old space wizard. Quinlan would obliterate that image of him while Obi Wan's force ghost spluttered in the background.

Din and Aphra - ok but Din is just the dad of the century and Aphra has her "ward" Vulaada. She's soft sometimes for the people she loves. And Din just makes everyone who originally would've killed him become a babysitter. He'd do the same to her. Plus let's be honest she could easily seek him out because she wants the darksaber.

Thrawn and Aphra - ok these are getting more random but let's be honest everyone knows Aphra. Her and Din just get up in everyone's business - her on purpose, Din by accident. Imagine Thrawn trying to deal with the chaos that is Chelli Lona Aphra. Would he be able to predict her behaviour? Would they get on really well I mean Thrawn is an art connoisseur, Aphra is an archeologist.

Thrawn and Din - to go with the previous points. Would Thrawn adopt Din and Grogu too? I mean new canon Thrawn does adopt people, and even legends Thrawn had his ysalamir. Plus Din just befriends everyone so...

I deeply wish KARR was given more than a cursory thought by the producers, I KNOW it's an old show and they were like... >:) heehee evil twin go brrr...but also the thought of him being deactivated for years and not understanding why and then being targeted for destruction the moment he gets any sort of freedom,,, tell me YOU wouldn't have a villian origin story about that!

Challenge of having the mini knights ( Bath Time!)

Even though they are super intelligent cars the boys also need to be groomed and bathed. Easier said than done unfortunately. They are waterproof and can not drown or anything like that so giving them a good clean won't hurt them in any way. Although it feels nice and all they won't really look forward to it at the beginning and will do their best to hide and avoid you once they hear the bathtub ( or sink, whichever you all prefer to wash them in ) running.

First part of the challenge is to get the baby, the mini knights will not be very excited about bath time and will do all that they could to avoid getting in the tub. No matter what you try, it won't be easy

They'll hide in all sorts of places to get away, KITT will even enter super pursuit mode to escape. KARR will hide in just about anything he could get into and he will put up a huge fight while trying to get him.

Once you do manage to get them in the bath the next part of the challenge is keeping them in the tub. KITT will know better and will stay put but KARR will not and will turbo boost out when given the chance. So turning to get the soap or anything to bathe him with will mean you have to sometimes still hold him in the process.

When giving the minis a bath make sure to wear any clothes you do not mind getting wet with soap and water, with KARR though there's a chance you're gonna have some tire marks or some holes in it from the struggle.

Make sure the water isn't too deep and just the right temperature, it may not effect them but you want the bath to be as comfortable as possible.

KITT and KARR oddly love bubbles so feel free to create a lot and play from time to time. I mean, hey we can have fun with a bath.

Once it's over and you start to drain the tub or sink quickly grab a towel and prepare to catch the mini knights once they realize the bath is over they'll bolt right out immediately. Also if it's KARR, get ready to be tackled because he jumps out really fast.

(BONUS!) GLaDIS will be more of a challenge if you try to give her a bath, due to her being half cat she hates baths more than anything. It may even take around two hours just to get her in the tub XD

When grooming and bathing them be gentle because a brush won't be so comfortable for them especially if you're rough. It'll most likely make them hate the bath even more if you're rough on them. When drying them with a fluffy towel they'll be purring and feeling great afterwards.

( Hint: if you do use a brush and are gentle with it, you can tickle KITT and KARR with it making them laugh if you gently scrub their underside or tires. They're very Ticklish ♥️)

Coming Home (299) - Proof that therapy fic and tragic parent-child relationships are....kind of an Avani thing? Welp.

*laughs* Oh boy, do I ever. Um, aside from those already mentioned, there is a perma-drawer fic Baahubali/Black Panther crossover featuring dreamworld friendships, which is probably the weirdest thing I've actually even started to draft....

If I have, I'm plainly too oblivious to realize it. Mostly, though, I think that this is because my readers are unbelievably kind to me.

I don't, largely because I'm no good at it. I'll stick to innuendos and the occasional off-color joke, for everyone's sake.

Ooh, this is a hard one. Um. Lois Lane/Clark Kent was probably an early one I imprinted on, but also Pratham/Gauri, the leads from a really terrible but also hilarious Indian soap from when I was a kid; Amarendra/Devasena probably works its way up to a lifetime one from all the thinking/ficcing/meta I've done about it; and honestly, I've been a Krishna/Rukmini stan since I was a wee one (Female agency and strikes against patriarchal-arranged-marriage FTW!)

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Eventually, we will finish the Ramayana space AU because it really is the best of our crazy AUs. It just--might take a bit until then.

Dialogue, characterization, plot, humor (I hope?)

what are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes, smut scenes, That One Scene you need to get the plot from Point A to Point B but is boring as anything to hurry up and get done.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

IMO, best used as a garnish/minimally--otherwise, you risk breaking readers out, even if they are familiar with the foreign language you are using. That said, there are always exceptions: in Sarvaga, linked above, I use the direct transliteration of dialogue in Tamil, because a translation wouldn't at all convey the duality or the intent of it after all.

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Really bad Lois and Clark fic, IIRC, which were mostly syrupy missing-scenes and episode tags.

what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I think I have to go with Nidhana, simply because I can't believe I actually finished a multichapter fic with an actual plot!

Ok ok ranting about morgan karr and jesse swenson as hanschen and ernst because they are so underappreciated 

I think they really smash woybr out of the park and morgan karr has such a great voice (his touch me solo omg) so i’ll try and convert some of you 

Oh this really long so if you don’t want to read me incoherently ranting about this skip it i won’t care

Ok first of all before the vineyard scene jesse swenson has that jbw hanschen vibe but a bit more childlike, where he feels like he could be in school with me. The ‘bobby mahler he’s the best’ line is delivered so seriously it’s just hilarious. “I’ll walk with you ernst” isn’t said as a joke, it’s actually kind of sweet

And morgan karr as ernst omg… god i love him. His voice is just *chef’s kiss*. His touch me solo., sdsjhdgsu ej~!!!!! He’s so sweet as ernst too, and doesn’t fall into that trap of stupid ernst ready to be manipulated. I could go on and on about his voice it’s just amazing here’s an audio of him singing (with zach reiner-harris) just enjoy that oh and this one 

Um before i continue on my morgan karr tangent lemme get to the vineyard scene 

So! So ok and i really love this.. They start out when the lights are down after totally fucked and i think they either hug or kiss? I can’t see because the lights are down but it kind of adds another layer where they know each other? And they’re previously dating or something? I think this happens in the play? I might be over analyzing and they’re just talking about the scene but idk

Anyways they sit down and start saying the lines and (of course) there’s the typical laughter during the country pastor speech but morgan karr like giggles after ‘my degrees’ and omg i love him. Facepalm moment from hansy rilow

The whole hanschen monologue is very good, i mean the audience is laughing but it’s ok because the best is yet to come! Now the song starts and you’re like ‘god jesse swenson can sing really well too’ so you’re enjoying that but then you’re like ‘god who did his hair >-<‘ (once again spring awakening is plagued by just fucking up the boys hair.. It’s not act 2 later moritz or 1nt andy mientus bad but it’s just a little off. He looks like andrew rannells-) anyways they kiss. It is very sweet. This part is just jhgskdufg yes! How morgan karr (our lord and saviour) says ‘oh god’ is not like shocked? But just like “oh” in a good way i am not making any sense sorry guys 

They do the weird leg thing as is customary for woybr. Anyways on to ‘when we look back…’ jesse swenson says it so … seductively?? This sounds weird i didn't get much sleep 

“And in the meantime?” fjghsfjg skmfhoierht! Ihuhfu!!! 

And the second kiss.s.. Hanschen says “why not?” and then they both nod??? And kiss and it’s not that weird predatory bi trope dkjfgs guys i am LIVING it’s so sweet df

AND AND AND when they break away from the 2nd kiss hanschen is sort of holding ernst’s face and like ITS SO TENDer it’s the little things s;kduhgs;ud FUCK isodjfhgsj anyways and when he says “i thought perhaps we’d only talk” hans moves his hands (hehe) away and sdfhgs;ku!!! The details! The details guys stop this literally kills me

Um once you get off that high of tenderness you get on another high of morgan karr singing. Him. he. GOD. hskduhglks like thhd;kghli i dkt this solo.. It’s so good listen to it NOW 

After that you get the original staging thing of hanchen grabbing the mic which i don’t much care for but its ok

Another thing i really like about this performance is that the audience is sort of toned down? They’re not laughing as much as they do in earlier bootlegs. I mean they do laugh in the first part but after it’s just like they’re enjoying the scene (hopefully. But how can you not) 

In conclusion: sdufghspiudfg GOD the crimes i would commit for a bootleg of morgan karr as moritz. God he would smash don’t do sadness
