i think perhaps the most annoying/exhausting phenomenon in existence is when something kind of genuinely sucks but it has, like, a female lead or whatever so half the people that are saying it sucks are nightmare people that unironically call things "woke garbage" and the other half are people that just like. have a basic sense of story structure and knowledge of character arcs as a concept that quite reasonable think this thing sucks. BUT it gets assumed that 100% of people who think it sucks are in that first half and then there's a backlash TO the backlash and all along it's still not a good fucking story. I call this "The twilight phenomena" because it got a lot of hate because of a mockery of teenage girls when it had well deserved hate for the like racism and misogyny and the throwaway detail that a grown ass man is somehow romantic soulmates with a quite literal baby.

There's some point to be made about SJM type books being like "you can be strong AND feminine" as though there was ever an overwhelming amount of strong masculine female characters and the slow rise of tradwives and girl math and the feminine divine and pink jobs. hear me out. jayce just got out of the anomaly and is absolutely reeling, barely able to walk and glitching out of reality so bad he has no clue what's real and what isn't. then, he sees jinx, who he's been having stress nightmares about since she kidnapped cait in season 1 and who is responsible for basically half of the tragedies in his life

so logically, when he sees jinx, he loads the hammer for a sec before thinking "wait. why tf would she be here? i'm prolly hallucinating."

so he walks away to go shoot his ex boyfriend or whatever. and jinx, who just got her life spared by a guy who should have every reason imaginable to kill her, takes this whole encounter like an epiphany and realizes that even if the guy she's so very thoroughly traumatized can forgive her, then maybe she really does deserve to try and live despite her mistakes. then she doesn't kill herself in the end

meanwhile jayce 100% would've shot her if he knew she was real
