Can I take care of you? (Drabble #2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word count: 1k
Warnings: Nothing major, just fluff and self care, haircare, Attempted use of he/they pronouns( writing practice)
(A/N: Thought of this after rush of finales week- 0 stars would not recommend exams. But just the thought of hair care, plus this semi alt canon/canon complaint with Leo character design, and boom this comes along.
Btw the pictures are all from pintrest, I edited the last one bc i don’t know how old it is and I want to respect op privacy. It is one of my references for Leo character design. I am inconsistent with a face claim.
Anyways, I'm still editing the new chapter before I post, hoping to get it out soon asp. Hope you all enjoy this small fic.)

“Can I do your hair?” The question comes out of nowhere.
Leo paused mid-way through equations he had been scribbling, for the past hour. Maybe if Annabeth had considered a little bit of realistic psychics instead of complex design, but that’s beside the point.
He considers. Trying to understand. What’s wrong with his hair? Why is she asking? I mean it’s been a couple of days or two since they sat down and did a routine.
“Umn…I dunno Cariño. I mean I just got this last equation. If I lose track I could…” They start, but can see her face shift. A mild annoyance. Is she mad at him? His lips thinned a bit. “I mean, I don't know if you want to get through all the frizz and tangles. Plus I have a bit of a tender scalp and all. And I know I’m not real good with sitting still—“
“Hey,” Breisa interrupts with a small breath, holding onto his swivel chair. Trying to break through his word stream. “I’m only asking if you want to. You don’t have to.” She’s holding his jaw, stroking his cheek gently with her thumbs.
“Ya se.” He smiles a bit. Still feeling a bit guilty. “I just…it’s so much time to spend on me. Plus working and all that. Do you really want to deal with me?”
She stops stroking his cheek, “Nada de eso.” She lets them meet her gaze. “You think too much about it. I’m not offering so I can deal with you. I’m offering because I want to.”
Breisa kissed his forehead, “Besides, Amorcito. I think you need a break.” She emphasized—looking at the stack of design sketches, blueprints scatter with equations, and trinkets half built with smudges of oil.
Leo blinked owlishly. Looking at the mess on his desk. Then back at her.
He shrugged with a small sigh, “Meh. Why not?“
—
“Cariño, tell me again. Why are there so many products?” Leo asked as she wrapped a towel around his neck.
She scoffed out a playful laugh,“¿Has visto tus rizos?”She plucked a hanging strand from his forehead. “I’m gonna need prayer, coconut oil, and anything I can find to handle these.”
Leo pouted, “It ain’t that bad.”
“How many times of day do you condition? Comb? And how do you deal with buildup?” She tested the water a bit to make sure it was warm.
Their  silence was an answer.
“Que pensé.” Breisa teased softly, taping his shoulder so he knew to lean his head back into the bathroom tub. “Good temperature?”
Leo felt the warm water run through his scalp, his body still— debating whether or not it was sensory overload. It was not. “Good.”
“Mind if I?” Breisa hovered her hands over his hair.
Leo nodded, “Go ahead.”
She let her fingers sink in his curls. Using the hose, making sure to rinse out the first layer of buildup.
He jolted a bit, the water giving him a tickling sensation. But his shoulders slowly eased down.
She massaged his neck and shoulders. Seeing how he almost involuntarily closed his eyes, with a small quirk of his lips.
She ringed out his hair after a while, scrunching out the heaviness of the moisture. Leaving his hair damp, she reached for the shampoos.
“What are we feeling, guapo? Strong smell, herbal, or fruit?”
“Herbal.” Leo said quickly. Not at all needy from the lack of her touch.
Breisa noticed, as always. “Okay.” She said snorting softly. She grabbed the old spice shampoo, making sure it was shampoo.
Not cause of the countless times she mixed the conditioner with the shampoo, because the bottle looked the same.
She uncapped, drizzled some in his hair, and began to massage from the base of his neck up. Gently tugging the deep tangles apart. Also trying to lather out enough of the second layer of buildup.
As she focused on this. Leo was already lost by her movements. The small twitch became a dazed smile. His head tilted to follow the motion of her hands. Their body was completely laxed by her touch.
He wasn’t even bouncing his leg, or fidgeting with the seat. Just completely in her care. A safe bubble.
As Breisa rinsed out his hair again, she rubbed his cheek affectionately. Lather his curls once more with herbal conditioner. Threading her fingers, while using a good brush to get the knots out. Repeat rinsing through his scalp. And squeezed out the excess water from the strands.
“Do you have a particular style you want?” She sectioned their hair with the teeth of a comb and clips to separate his curls evenly.
“Hmn?” They hummed, coming out of his buzz. Like Briesa washed out all the stress from their brain. He noticed her waiting for him to answer. “Oh, well…It’s kind of long huh?  Whaddya think, twists or braids? Maybe Coils? Natural?”
“I could if I had my trimmers.” Breisa considered. “It takes too long with the length. And I know you get angsty when your hair  is being tugged in different directions.”
“Only if you do it wrong, Cariño.” Leo drawled with a sly grin, almost cheeky. “I mean you’ve tugged before, those times  I didn’t really complain—“
“Ay ya!” Breisa swatted his shoulder with the comb,  burning with embarrassment. “I’ll do coils. Okay? Is that fair?”
“Still gonna pull my hair?”
Another swat to their shoulder as they snorted.
She then made sure each section was held up just right. Before she reached for leave in conditioner and cream.
With another hair tool she began to stylize his hair: combing it again, applied conditioner cream mix, twirled it into an even coil, and scrunched a section with a Cotton t-shirt.
A repeated the process with each section. While managing to massage the back of his neck. Taking a small five minute break every now and then. Cracking her wrist from the process. Giving him extra kisses for being patient.
And admiring how his hair was coming along. It started to gain shape. Each scrunch added to the cloud of softness.
Finally she came up to the front section, facing him. Breisa could see the dopey grin across his face. Completely enamored with her.
When she reached for the last few strands that crowned around his head like a halo. She felt his lips touch her wrist.
“I’m not done you know,” Breisa muttered tenderly.
Leo kissed her wrist again, “M’know.” A few more pecks along her pulse. “Just giving you a pre-thank you.”
She kissed above his head for the hundredth time that day. Fixing the last strand. “Need me to defuse it?”
“No need.” Underneath her fingers his curls began to heat up.
“Wait.” He stopped warming up like a furnace.
She grabbed the coconut oil, rubbed it across her fingers and palms. Carefully and intentionally trying to cover as much of his scalp and roots. Just enough so it’s hydrated and healthy for his scalp. “Okay.”
Leo leaned against her shoulder and sighed dreamily as they warmed up. “Keep playing with m’ hair?”
“Is that my thanks?” Breisa teased.
He huffed, “You offered?”
She tugged on the tuff below the nape of his neck. “Bed?”
Leo nodded against her shoulder, with a peck on her neck.
Breisa giggled, picking him up, and leading him to the twin size comforter.
She sank into the memory foam mattress, letting him rest his head on her soft middle. He was already a dead man, feeling content and pleasure beyond elysium, omeyocan, and any other version of heaven.
When Leo felt her palm splay on his neck and her fingers ruffled his curls to the fluffiest texture. He melted like butter….No worse… he melted with puppy love. The kind they never publicly embarrassed themselves with. That was only for her to see.
Thrummed with affection, he mumbled, “When I’m drowning in stress, you know how to press out all the frizz and wrinkles from my head.”
“You should let me take care of you more often.” Breisa murmured as he looked up at her. She shifted and met his lips with a tender embrace.
Wordlessly Leo agreed, moving up to her shoulder. Dozing off without a care in the world, just lucky to be in her arms. As Breisa gently combed through his well done coils with her own eyes growing heavy with sleep.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There wasn’t a person in your life who hadn’t told you getting married so young was a mistake. A newly minted nurse with a shiny new degree, a big diamond ring, and a big house in the nicest part of town—people loved to talk. And they did, especially behind your back.
“Too fast,” they said
“Too young.”
“She doesn’t know what she’s getting into.”
But they didn’t know Jack.
He’d been your constant through it all. Through the twelve-hour shifts, the night terrors you both had but didn’t always talk about, the tangled mess of silky bed sheets and plain coffee mornings. He never missed a beat, not with you. He always made sure the front door was locked, that you didn’t forget to eat, that you never had to face a bad day completely alone.
Jack Abbot was your storm and shelter all at once.
Still, some days it felt like you were speaking two different languages. You’d grown up with champagne brunches, sorority sisters, and an Ivy League education on Daddy’s dime. Jack grew up fast though—boots on the ground, blood on his hands, and scars no one could see unless he let them.
His world had edges, and darkness only he could understand.
Yours had comfy throw pillows and a walk-in closet.
Falling for each other had been a whirlwind, but staying in love… that took work.
Especially now.
Lately, every conversation felt like walking on eggshells. He was short with you. Distant. And maybe you were a little more sensitive than usual—he always said you felt deeply, cared too much. Maybe you did miss the way he used to look at you, touch you, talk to you like you were the only person in the room.
Now? Now he was somewhere else—lost in his head, behind some wall you couldn’t climb no matter how hard you tried.
And you still tried.
You showed up to work, same time as him, hair curled, and lip gloss on as usual. Your scrubs were still fitted just right, your badge reel sparkled, and your sneakers matched your pastel compression socks of the day. You were tired, overworked, and emotionally frayed—but damn it, you still tried, for yourself, for him, and most certainly for your patients .
He didn’t even say “Hi,” when you checked in.
Just a curt nod, eyes already scanning a trauma sheet.
Fine. You had a job to do anyway.
The ER was chaotic, as usual. You floated between rooms, upbeat as always, soft-voiced with your patients, making the new interns laugh with your sparkly pens and habit of humming softly under your breath.
That’s when he showed up.
Leo, tall, handsome in a sun-kissed, ex-lifeguard in the Baywatch kind of way, and new. The latest temp nurse from another hospital, and definitely not shy.
“You always this put-together at 7 p.m.?” he said, grinning as he helped you restock the IV cart.
You glanced up from your clipboard, smiling just enough. “Only when there’s new employees to impress.”
He laughed, nudging your elbow. “Well, consider me thoroughly impressed.”
Across the hall, you didn’t see Jack. But he was seeing everything.
You caught a flash of movement in your peripheral vision—him, leaning against the med station, pretending to read a chart. The way his jaw clenched was less than subtle. So was the way he suddenly had something urgent to discuss with Dr. Reese, right behind where you were standing.
You didn’t react. Just went back to scanning meds, asking Leo if he needed help finding anything on his first night. You were being polite. Friendly. Maybe a little intentionally oblivious—but only because it felt good to be noticed by anyone today.
Jack didn’t say a word.
But every time you turned around, he was there. Close. Watching.
He didn’t like it. You could feel it.
And for the first time in weeks, you felt something that wasn’t just disappointment.
You felt giddy.
You weren’t trying to make him jealous.
But if he was suddenly remembering the woman he married? The one who lit up a room? The one who still wore t-shirts to bed and nothing else, even when he acted like he didn’t care?
Good.
Let him remember.
The next few hours passed in a blur of motion and monitors—IVs, trauma alerts, vitals to chart and families to console. You stayed busy, focused, but not so focused you didn’t notice the way Jack kept drifting into your orbit.
Not close enough to talk.
Just… there.
Lingering near the nurse’s station when you laughed at something Leo said. Answering the trauma bay calls himself when you usually did first. A silent presence, watching without watching, always just a little too close not to be intentional.
There had been so much to do between learning about coworkers drama, taking care of patients, and dealing with incoming traumas that you’d been on your feet for almost seven hours straight before getting any sort of break.
Still not having found the right time to touch the overnight oats in your lunchbox.
Typical.
You finally ducked into the break room around 2:30 a.m., practically vibrating from a bit too much caffeine and sheer stubbornness. Your sneakers squeaked on the tile as you opened your lunch tote, pulling out your jar with a satisfied “Aha”. You gave it a little shake and popped the lid, the faint scent of almond butter and cinnamon curling into the air.
Leo was already in there, lounging in the corner with a Coke Zero and half a sandwich he didn’t seem particularly interested in eating.
“That looks suspiciously healthy,” he said, eyeing your jar like it confused him.
You grinned. “It’s delicious. Cinnamon, chia seeds, oat milk, with a little bit of honey and almond butter. You should try it sometime—maybe it will lower your blood pressure.”
Leo let out a low whistle. “Oof. She’s cute and judgmental.”
You wiggled your spoon at him. “I’m not judgmental. I’m just stating a fact,”
“Same difference,”
You laughed, shaking your head as you settled on the couch. Your big water tumbler clinked softly on the table as you set it down. Leo glanced at it.
“Okay, real talk. How many cups do you own?”
“Oh at least ten,” you said proudly. “And yes, they all match my scrubs and socks.
He chuckled. “Of course they do.”
You were in the middle of telling him about your latest homemade electrolyte concoction—something with sea salt, lemon, and maple syrup—when the door creaked open.
Jack stepped inside, silent as ever. No one noticed at first, but you felt him before you saw him. That familiar pull.
You looked up and smiled, just a little.
He didn’t smile back.
He walked to the cabinet, pulled out a pod of instant coffee, and started making the world’s saddest cup of caffeine.
“You good?” you asked, casually, spoon still dangling from your mouth.
Jack shrugged. “Fine.”
Leo gave him a nod. “Rough night, man?”
“Same as every night,” Jack said coolly.
There was a pause.
You went back to your oats.
Leo leaned over slightly, stage-whispering, “Is it true you color-code your vitamins?”
You lit up. “Oh my god, yes! You have to! It’s so satisfying.”
Jack let out a breath—not quite a sigh. Not quite anything.
Just something.
Leo turned to him. “She’s kind of a fairy, huh? Healthy, pretty, and scary organized.”
Jack didn’t answer. Just stirred his coffee with the kind of force that made the spoon clink too loudly against the mug.
“I mean, who even makes time for meal prep on night shift?” Leo kept going, still playful, still oblivious. “She comes in glowing while I’m running on vending machine Pop-Tarts and anxiety.”
You grinned again. “You say that like Pop-Tarts are bad.”
Jack finally looked up. Right at you.
“I liked you better when you were sneaking granola bars from my locker.”
Your breath caught a little—not because it was mean. But because it sounded like a memory.
You raised a brow. “You never let me finish the boxes.”
Jack’s gaze didn’t move.
“Maybe I liked the distraction.”
The room went quiet again.
Leo cleared his throat and stood. “Okay, I’m gonna grab another Coke. You two want anything?”
“No,” Jack said, a little too quickly.
You shook your head. “I’m good, thanks.”
When Leo left, the silence stretched.
You scooped another spoonful of oats, pretending not to feel the weight of Jack’s stare.
“You didn’t answer my text,” he said finally.
You blinked. “Which one?”
“The one about locking the side door this morning.”
“Oh.” You smiled faintly. “Sorry, I was halfway through meal prepping for us and my mom called... You know how she gets.”
Jack nodded, jaw tight. “You’re supposed to text me back.”
You raised a brow again, but this time softer. “Jack. It was about a door.”
“It was about you being safe.”
That landed somewhere in your chest.
You didn’t say anything for a second. Just set your spoon down and leaned back into the couch.
“I was fine,” you said gently. “I promise.”
Jack didn’t reply. But he reached for your cup, unscrewed the lid, and took a sip (not using the straw) like it was the most normal thing in the world.
You stared. “That has lemon in it.”
He grimaced. “Tastes like a scented candle.”
You laughed.
He didn’t.
But the corners of his mouth twitched—just a little.
He set your water with a quiet thud, the lid clicking into place like it was holding something back for him, too.
You tilted your head, watching him in that way you always did when you were trying to read what was going on behind those stormy, hazel eyes. “You're drinking lemon water,” you said, voice lilting. “Should I be worried?”
Jack didn’t look at you. “I was thirsty.”
You smiled. “And yet the entire fridge full of bottled water didn’t do it for you?”
He shrugged.
“Grumpy,” you said under your breath, just loud enough.
His eyes finally flicked to yours. “I’m not grumpy.”
“You kind of are.”
“I’m tired.”
“You always say that when you’re being grumpy.”
Jack gave you a slow look—flat, dry, and just a little amused. “You finished?”
“Not even close,” you said sweetly, your elbow propped on the arm of the couch. “You’re cranky, you’re overcaffeinated, and you get weirdly possessive whenever someone’s nice to me.”
That got his attention.
“I’m not possessive,” he said.
You smirked. “Jack, you nearly snapped Leo’s neck when he said I had good handwriting.”
“That’s not what he said, and you know that.”
You blinked, then laughed. “Okay, fine. ‘Prettiest charting I’ve ever seen,’ and he winked. So what?”
Jack’s jaw tightened—just slightly.
You stood, stretching your arms overhead in a way that made your scrub top ride up just a little. His eyes tracked the motion like muscle memory.
You stepped closer, toes nearly brushing his boots. “I like that you care about this,” you said, softer now. “It’s kind of hot, actually.”
He looked at you—really looked at you—for the first time all night.
“You drive me crazy, kid.” he muttered.
You beamed. “So you are jealous.”
Jack sighed through his nose, the tension melting from his shoulders like an exhale he’d been holding in too long. His hand came up, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear, fingers lingering a second too long.
“I know you’re mine,” he said quietly. “I just… sometimes I forget the rest of the world doesn’t always know it.”
Your chest tightened. Not in a painful way. In a finally, you’re here with me again kind of way.
You reached for his hand and squeezed. “Well, they do. But if you ever forget again, I’ll tattoo your name on my ass”
That earned you a snort—low and surprised.
“I’m serious,” you teased, squeezing his fingers. “Right across my cheeks. Property of Jack Abbot. Think it’d go with my Bikinis when I start tanning again?”
His lips twitched. “You’re insane.”
“Mm. And you’re stuck with me.”
“I know,” he murmured, voice quieter now, as he dipped down for a soft kiss,  “Wouldn’t change it.”
And there it was.
The part of him no one else got to see—the softness under all that armor he put up. The way he looked at you like you were the only thing in this chaotic, blood-slicked hospital worth holding onto.
Before you could say anything else, the overhead crackled to life:
“Trauma en route. ETA four minutes. MVA, two patients. GSW secondary.”
Jack’s head lifted, all instinct now. You were already moving toward the door when his hand caught yours.
He didn’t pull, didn’t squeeze—just held.
“Be careful,” he said.
You leaned in again, kissing his cheek, quick and certain. “Always.”
Then the moment passed, and the hallway swallowed you both—he leading, you following, hearts synced in the rhythm of the ER. But his hand brushed yours again as you walked.
The trauma had come in hard and fast—twisted metal, broken glass, and enough blood to soak through your shoes. Jack had been in the thick of it, barking orders, steady hands moving like muscle memory while you worked across from him, suctioning, suturing, stabilizing. For a while, there was no room for anything else. No talking. No teasing. Just the two of you, back in sync, locked in the rhythm you knew so well. It was easy to forget the cracks when the adrenaline kicked in.
But by 4:15 a.m., the ER had slowed to a lull.
The kind that was never quiet, but at least breathable.
You’d just finished helping a resident clean up trauma one when they wheeled in another patient—mid-40s, minor head lac, walking wounded and very, very drunk.
You smiled politely, grabbing a suture kit.
“Alright, sir. Let’s get you cleaned up, okay? Can you sit still for me?”
He gave you a once-over that made your skin crawl. “Sure thing, sweetheart. For you, I’ll be real good.”
You kept it professional. “Thank you.”
But the longer you worked, the bolder he got.
“You married?” he slurred.
You didn’t answer.
“Bet your husband’s not half as pretty as you.”
You offered a tight smile. “Try to stay still. This part stings a little.”
He didn’t even flinch. “You ever date older guys? I got a boat, you know.”
You glanced around the bay, but the resident was long gone, charting somewhere out of earshot.
“I’m flattered, really, but I already have a boat,” you said lightly, finishing the last stitch. “And you’re gonna feel real silly about this in the morning.”
He grinned, crooked and gross. “Not if you give me your number.”
And then he reached out—his hands brushing your hips in a way that was not accidental.
You stepped back instantly, heart thudding.
“That’s enough sir,” you said sharply, your voice still steady, still calm—but colder now. “I’m going to step out for a minute, since I’ve finished. Someone else will check on you soon.”
You didn’t wait for a reply.
You slipped into the furthest supply closet you could easily find and leaned against the shelves, chest rising and falling like you’d just run a sprint. Your hands were shaking—more with anger than fear—but still. It clung to your skin.
The door creaked open a minute later.
“Hey.”
Jack.
He stepped inside and shut the door behind him, gaze scanning your face. “One of the other nurses said he got grabby.”
You looked up at him, throat tight. “I’m fine.”
He didn’t answer that right away. Just moved closer and touched your cheek, thumb brushing the corner of your mouth like he needed to ground himself.
“You sure?” he asked, quieter now.
You nodded. “Just… gross. Not the first, won’t be the last.”
His jaw flexed. “It shouldn’t be happening at all.”
You leaned into his hand. “It’s okay. I handled it.”
“You shouldn’t have to handle it.”
You looked up at him. “Jack—”
He stepped closer, and suddenly his body was pressed against yours, warm and solid and steady. His hands found your waist, rough fingers curling around your hips.
“I should be the only one touching you,” he said, voice low.
“We’ll get written up…”
“I don’t care.”
But Jack wasn’t hearing logic right now. He was standing there like he could still smell every guy you had met tonight on you, like the air hadn’t cleared yet.
“Hey.” You placed your hands on his chest, grounding him. “We don’t have to do this here…”
His hands squeezed your waist. “You’re mine.”
“I know.”
“You don’t flirt like that with anyone else, right?”
You blinked, caught off-guard. “Flirt like what?”
“Like you did with that prick.”
You frowned a abit. “I was being nice. He asked if I wanted  something from the vending machine- he asked you too and you looked at him like he offered me lingerie.”
Jack didn’t budge. His grip didn’t loosen.
You tried again. Softer this time.
“I steal your clothes. I come home to you. I wear the ring you bought me, and I’m your wife. I chose you.”
His eyes searched yours—tired, and heavy, with a mix of something else.
You rose on your toes, placing your lips to the corner of his mouth. “I’m yours, Jack.”
And then his arms were around you fully, pulling you in like he needed to feel your heartbeat to believe it. Your heart thudded in your chest, a beat behind your breath. You looked at him, eyes narrowed, lips parted.
You didn’t hear him lock the door.
You felt it.
That soft, decisive click behind you—like a promise.
“Did you just lock the door?”
Jack’s answer was a look—slow, hot, and so heavy it pinned you in place. He stepped with the kind of precision that said this wasn’t spontaneous. No, he’d decided the second he saw you walk into the closet room, cheeks flushed, lip gloss smudged, tensions high.
The second all these guys started paying attention to you tonight.
Jack hadn’t liked that.
He tried to be quiet about it, like always. Quiet the way a storm is—only right before it breaks.
He stopped just barely inches from you, hand coming up to trace a line along your jaw. His fingers were thick, rough, warm, familiar. His touch didn’t ask permission. It remembered.
“You keep smiling like that,” he said low, his voice a gravel-coated whisper, “and I’ll have to fuck the memory of it out of you.”
Your breath caught—somewhere between outrage and arousal. “Jack—”
But you didn’t get the rest out.
He kissed you.
Not sweet. Not careful.
Claiming.
His hands tangled in your hair, dragging you into him like it was instinct, like your mouth had always belonged to his. You melted into him, your body curving against his like you were built for this—built for him. His hips pressed forward, pinning you to the wall of the storage closet, and your head thudded back softly against the cool plaster as his lips slid down to your throat, sucking, biting just enough to make you gasp.
“Locked the door for a reason,” he murmured, tongue flicking against the skin where your pulse fluttered. “Tired of pretending I didn’t want you every second we’re here.”
You let out a shaky breath, your fingers gripping his shirt like lifelines. “You’re sooo jealous.”
He pulled back just enough to look at you, dark eyes devouring. “Damn right I’m jealous.”
His hand slid under your scrub top, skimming up your ribs, palm flat, hot and possessive. “You’re mine—I can’t fucking stand it when they look at you like you’re not.”
“And what are you going to do about it?” you whispered, breathless, lips grazing his.
His answer was a growl.
Jack spun you, quick and controlled, pressing you front-first against the shelves. Supplies rattled, somewhere above you—gloves, gauze, sterile wraps—but it was the sound of his breath at your neck that made your knees threaten to buckle.
His hands roamed—under your shirt to your tits, over the waistband of your scrub pants, every inch of bare skin he found earning a new kind of heat.
“You wanna be flirted with?” he whispered, voice dragging down your spine. “Fine. But I get to remind you who makes you cum”
You gasped as his mouth met the base of your neck, teeth grazing, tongue following. “Jack…”
“You knew,” he said again, almost reverent now.
And god help you, you did.
Because you’d walked in here to take a second, needing this—needing him. Not just his hands or his mouth or the way he made you come apart so effortlessly, but this claiming. This reminder. That under all the stress, the silence, the long nights and missed moments—the fire still burned. Hot. Unrelenting.
His fingers slipped lower, teasing the waist of your scrub pants, and you pressed back against him without thinking, needing more, needing everything.
“You’re mine,” he murmured again, lips brushing your shoulder, low and slow. “Say it.”
You turned your head just enough to whisper, “I’m yours, Jack. Always.”
And that was all it took.
He kept you facing the shelves, a hand coming down to your hips to steady you as he continued to feel you up with the other. “Yeah? You gonna be my good girl, sweetheart?”
The whimper you let out was pathetic. A low pitched sound that came from the back of your throat, as Jack started to flood your senses. He gave your ass a quick, hard, smack. Hand going back to rub over the spot, as it snapped you out of your daze. “I asked you a question, baby.”
You nodded, desperately. Already whoozy from the assault on your sense that your husband brought on. “Mhm! Jack-”
He shushed you, gently pushing down your scrub pants, “Gotta make this quick and quiet, or they’ll all know what a bad girl you’ve been.”
Reaching back, you straightend up leaning into his burning touch, wanting him closer than he already was. You could feel how hard he was beneath his cargos, half chubbed as he ground his hips into your panty-clad ass.
You would’ve felt embarressed if this hadn’t felt so right.
Clothes barely off, lazily grinding against your husband in a closet like you’re back in some college frat house at UPenn.
Jack doesn’t waste anymore time though, hastily shoving your panties down, rough fingers making quick work of finding your swollen clit. The tight circles he does against you, make you feel dizzy—legs already beginning to shake, as if you haven’t been working for ten hours already.
Your moans are muffled by your arm as you lean further into the shelves, but press your hips back toward Jack. Your resolve slowly slipping, as he dips a finger in your wet heat.
“Fuck, you’re soaked.” he groans out softly, continuing as he brings you closer and closer to the edge.
Then he just pulls away.
Not entirely, still so close that you’ve basically become one. It’s enough for you to whine at the loss of contact, pushing back into him hoping he’ll start again.
“Why’d you stop?” Jack can practically hear the pout in your voice. The breathy little lilt of displeasure showing in your tone.
“Sorry, baby. We only have time for one thing, and I’d much rather make you cum on my cock.” He kisses the back of your neck, gentle and loving as ever as he reaches down to free himself from his scrub pants.
He’s aching, he’s so hard.
He takes a few deep breaths before haphazrdly stroking himself. Fisting his cock in his meaty hand, already slick after playing with your wet little cunt.
Jack wasn’t going to make love to you.
He was going to fuck you like you needed it.
Lining himself up, Jack pushed in with a solid thrust of his sturdy hips. You just about collapsed into the shelves, already feeling so full of Jack as he started a steady rhythm. It was overwhelming, one of his hands tight against your hips as he used it to guide you into his thrusts, the other snaked over your mouth to muffle your breathy moans because the hallway was just beyond the locked closet door.
“Shit- you’re so fucking tight, baby.” you cleched against him as he drove himself further into you, trying to angle himself to hit the spot that would have you seeing stars in no time.
Your walls hugged him tight, leaving him a mess as he watched himself slip in and out of you in a trance like state.
“Fuck Jack-” you start mewling, hips pushing and grinding to meet his thrusts. “Ah- ah, you’re so deep.”
He mumbles something incoherent against your shoulder, both of his hands moving to your hips and ass to get more leverage to fuck you nice and hard.
You can tell you’re making a mess of yourself, panties clearly ruined with how you’re leaking down your thighs and his cock. Each thrust is a new shockwave of pleasure you don’t expect, but Jack doesn’t let up and you don’t want him to.
“Too m-much,” his cock throbs, hard and heavy inside you as he stills for just a second.
“Yeah? It’s too much for you, Sweetheart?” It’s almost mocking as he draws it out into longer deeper strokes—the ones that make it hard to breathe, the air escaping your lungs faster than you can take the chance to gasp for air.
“You’re just so big,” you whimper out, trying to keep yourself from collapsing back against him as your legs start to feel like jello.
Jack gives you a light scoff, “Good thing you’re being a good girl, and takin’ me so well, huh?” He keeps the pace steady, if not a bit quicker. Switching up the tempo to keep you on your toes and eager for him.
“Mhm!” You can feel your orgasm building, that all too familiar pressure in your lower tummy bubbling over. “Fuck- fuck I’m gonna cum-”
It’s like a switch flips in his brain, kicking him into high gear as he spins you around to face him. You wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him close as he lifts one of your legs around his waist.
“Yeah, pretty girl? You gonna cum for me?” He asks you through a sloppy kiss, one that smears what’s left of your lip gloss.
You feel like you’re about to implode, too tense and too loose all at once. Your hands find purchase on his clothed chest and the curls at the base of his neck, as he continues his loving assault on your body and senses. Jack is everywhere, and you’d never want it to be different.
He watches as you finally let go, shivering your way through your orgasm as you cum on his thick cock. Your breath catches as he kisses you slowly, working his cock in and out of your gushing pussy still chasing his own release.
“Fuck- you ruin me baby,” He groans into your kiss swollen lips, giving you a few more sloppy thrusts before burying himself as deep as possible. His own breathing shallow as he spills his load deep into your cunt, right where it belongs.
Blinking slowly, you return to your body. Jack looks down at you, capturing your lips in one last sweet kiss as he gently pulls out of you. Your body shudders at the now empty feeling, “You with me, Baby?”
His thumbs stroke your cheeks, gentle and loving as you just stare at him a little dazed. You manage a soft hum, and he begins the process of putting you back together for the public.
You cringed a bit as he helped you pull the pants of your scrubs back up, at least they were dark… right? You’d change into your backups as soon as you found the courge to leave the storage room. Then there was your hair which Jack lovingly braided as quickly as he could, before fixing himself the best he could
“Everyone’s totally gonna know… Ugh…”  you leaned your head against his chest, sighing at the thought of John or Ellis questioning where you two were for the past 15 minutes.
“You look fine, besides who cares?” He questioned, “Do you know how many times I’ve heard the same story from other departments,”
“Yeah but this is us,” you gave him a deadpan expression, as he reached behind you so that he could grab your stethoscope and badge reel from one of the many shelves behind you.
He gave you a nonchalant shrug, and one last kiss on the forehead. “You ready to go get ‘em tiger?”
“You’re so dead whe we get home, it’s not even funny Jack Abbot!”
“We still have about two more hours, so I think I’m safe, Princess.”

things you do that make svt bust quick (nsfw)
Tumblr media
seungcheol —; tell him how good he’s doing
he’s a leo male… please stroke his ego.
tell him how you love his cock, how big he is, how it hits so deep inside you. tell him “right there,” and “keep going,” and to do it “just like that.”
stroke his possessive side too. tell him no one else can fuck you like he can, no one else can stretch you out so good, no one else can make you cum like he does. tell him that your pussy is made for him only.
be loud for him. god, he loves hearing you moan. say his name, beg for more, sob, whimper, gasp for him. don’t be shy about it. it’ll only be a matter of time before you butter him up enough to make him cum.
jeonghan —; beg
everyone knows yoon jeonghan likes having people at his mercy. he gets a little unhinged when he has power over someone—so imagine what he gets like when you’re writhing on his cock, gasping his name so sweetly, your eyes glimmering with tears as he fucks you hard.
“what is it, pretty?” he asks, and like the devil he is, he slows the movement of hips, pulling out of you until his tip barely kisses your also weeping hole. it’s torture for him too, to leave the hot, tight haven that is your cunt, but to him it’s worthwhile.
“wanna cum, hannie,” you whimper.
“hm… i don’t know if i should let you yet,” he says, dipping back inside just an inch. years of him being yours means you don’t miss the tiny strain in his voice that betrays his perfectly collected demeanour.
“please, hannie, please, please, please, let me cum. i’ve been so good,” you sob, squeezing your thighs where they rest on his hips.
you watch as a switch flips in his eyes within a millisecond. a grin lights up his face and he shudders, and he’s sliding back inside you, fucking in and out of you harder and faster than before. safe to say it doesn’t take long for either of you to cum after that.
joshua —; make eye contact
his pretty doe eyes make staring into them your favourite thing in the world, and if you asked him his favourite pastime, he’d tell you that it was gazing into your irises.
it’s also his biggest weakness. from the way you’ve got your mouth wrapped around his dick, throat gagging even though you’re only halfway down it, joshua feels his sanity slipping away. his fingers curl into the bedsheets below as he watches you work him, revels in the warmth of your tongue sliding up and down his shaft.
when your eyes flick up to meet his he doesn’t stand a chance. not with how glimmering they are, brimming softly with tears, yet swimming with adoration. with worship.
heat washes over his whole body, he’s gasping, and the salty warmth of his release pools on your tongue.
jun —; put his fingers in your mouth
when junhui gets inside you he has a one-track mind. he becomes rapt with pleasure, drunk from the warm squeeze of your pussy around him, focused on nothing but the sensation of you, the sight of you under him, the sound of you in his ears.
the effect you have on him is dangerous, because you’re equally obsessed with him as he is with you, and you’re not afraid to show him.
and you love his hands, he knows you do—knows how you love his slender fingers and their soft touches all over you, inside you. your brain is cloudy, fogged by lust when you take him by his wrist and bring his fingers to your mouth. your eyes sparkle as your lips wrap around his index finger, your soft tongue swirling around it.
jun’s mouth parts with awe, his eyes growing round. a second later, he stills inside you with a gasp of your name, like he’s praying to you, all the while you’re sucking on his finger like a devil.
hoshi —; scratch him
he’s a little bit of a freak, and a masochist too.
when he’s got you folded in half, hitting all the right spots inside you, you cling to him in every way you can—fingers grabbing at his biceps, his shoulders. one particular stroke of his hips has you squealing.
your nails sink into his skin, crying out his name as you rake them down the toned planes of his back. the second you do, soonyoung is grunting, hips stilling, cock twitching as a sticky warmth suddenly floods your cervix.
the worst part about it is how he always has the stupidest, most shit-eating smug grin on his face when he examines your damage in the bathroom after, and you know that if he could, he would post the selfies he takes in the mirror all over instagram. what’s even worse though? seeing your marks makes him hard again.
wonwoo —; cry
you’re such a sensitive little thing and wonwoo adores you. one orgasm on his fingers and you’re already overstimulated—“but baby, i haven’t even put my cock in you yet,” he’ll coo.
like it’s your fault you have a boyfriend with skilled fingers and a skilled tongue and who knows you inside and out like the back of his hand, who knows where to touch you and how hard and what pace makes you writhe the most.
by the time he does get inside you, you’re gasping and whining and clawing at him, tears springing to your eyes because he’s so big and so deep, but the stretch is so addictive that it’s dizzying. his voice is low and husky as he mutters to you a mixture of teases and praise, calls you his pretty girl and then laughs at sensitive you are, pretends he’s not on the verge of coming from the sound of your choked gasps.
your belly starts to pulse with that familiar heat and by then you’re keening for him, whimpering a mixture of his name and endless pleas as it starts to become too much. your sobs go straight to his cock, and it’s only a matter of time before he reaches his climax, and his gasps of pleasure harmonise with your own cries.
woozi —; pull his hair
he’s been growing his hair out. after all your begging, he finally listened. in a way, though, it’s backfired a little on you, because the longer it gets the more insane you become. and the thing is you never expected him to let it get to his shoulders—and still he doesn’t plan on cutting it. well, good. you would kill him if he did.
when his face is between your legs you’re nothing short of a feral animal—your hips bucking wild against his mouth, your legs trembling on his shoulders, your fingers, of course, grabbing fistfuls of his hair. he makes you whine when he pulls away from your needy, sticky cunt to tsk at you, tells you to cut it out and keep your hands to yourself. (it’s because he’s about to cream his pants).
when he bends you in half beneath him, ruts into you hard and fast and relentless, you need leverage. your hands land on the back of his neck, fingertips grazing at his roots, then one slam of his hips into yours has his cock bumping against the most sensitive spot inside you and your grasping at his hair and crying his name so desperately. no longer can he hold back, strained groans slipping past his lips as he lets go inside you.
dokyeom —; hold his hand
a sentimental sweetheart, seokmin is an utter romantic who thinks that being inside of you, whether in your mouth or your pussy, is intimacy in its purest form. now imagine showing him just how much more intimate things can get.
he’s losing his mind at the feeling of your tongue swirling around the head of his cock, the way you swallow his length down making him see stars. he can’t bare to look at you—he needs to focus on taking deep breaths so that he doesn’t cum straight down your throat. then he feels you grabbing at one of his hands, lacing your fingers together, and no amount of deep breathing can stop him from releasing.
and when he fucks you it’s no different—it’s him in near tears, whimpering your name between incoherent words over and over, and as soon as you take his hand in yours and your fingers wrap around his, there’s nothing else he can do but succumb to his own pleasure.
mingyu —; take control
he’s big and strong; strong enough to put you into whatever position he wants, to make you cum at his command, to do just as he pleases with you.
but that’s exactly why he likes it when you slap him around a little.
you can’t exactly bend him into doggy or use your weight to keep him pinned to the mattress, but you can sit yourself pretty on his cock and ride him teasingly slow. you can tell him he’s not allowed to touch you or you’ll stop moving. you can tell him to kiss you, to go slower, to go harder.
you can sit up and put a hand around his throat, still your hips, and tell him he can fuck you himself if he wants to cum. and he’ll do just that—and as soon as you utter the words, he’s gone, whining out curses as he fills you up in white, warm spurts.
minghao —; whisper in his ear
minghao often tells you how he adores your voice. when you talk to him he’s entranced, and he’s always been more of a listener than a talker, and it’s perfect because you always have so much to say, and minghao will listen to every last word of yours.
your voice—minghao’s kryptonite, his achilles’ heel, his undoing and, oh, the way you moan for him when he’s got you on his cock is enough to make his heart stop beating. the perverted part of him wishes he could record you, hide the file away on his phone and listen to you when he’s overseas and he can’t call you. maybe he’ll ask you about that, if he can find the courage.
the final blow is when you’re getting close. you lean in, right next to his ear, so close that your breath sends shivers along his skin. “please, hao, i’m so close,” you whisper, yet you still sound so desperate and depraved. “you are too, right? cum for me, please. i’ll cum for you too.”
so he does just that—minghao gives in and lets his orgasm wash over him, fingertips drawing circles on your clit until mere moments later he hears the sound of your own cresting pleasure and he feels himself getting hard again.
seungkwan —; wrap your legs around him
it’s a fact that seungkwan loves to be close to you. if he could, he would crawl inside of your skin and live in your heart. but since he can’t, constant physical touch is the next best thing.
he likes to think he has relatively good self-control…most of the time. like when he’s buried to the hilt inside you, he’s incredible at keeping in rhythm, fucking into you at the most perfect pace for both you and him, hitting the spot that makes your back arch off the bed.
somehow he never sees it coming—when your arms are snaked around his neck and you’re holding onto him for dear life as he takes you to heaven, and your legs wrap around his waist so that you can pull him in impossibly deep. then you bring his face to yours, and you have the most irresistible little pout on your face when you make your request. “cum inside me, seungkwannie?”
and it’s not like he has much choice with the way you’ve trapped him inside of you, but that’s the very reason why the next second he’s pumping you full, because when it’s you, how is he supposed to have any self-control?
vernon —; touch yourself
it’s not like vernon can last long in general. he thinks you’re the hottest thing alive and he’s so enamoured with you that it’s too much for him sometimes, but you best believe he’ll put his all into holding out just for you.
there are times, however, where he’s just a man. and what’s a man to do when he has a goddess riding his dick? when your tits look so pretty, bouncing in his face, when you have that fucked out look in your eyes, when you feel like heaven and hell all at once?
and what the fuck is a man to do when your hand drifts down between your legs, to your aching clit, and your fingers start to rub it in circles, or when your other hand grasps one of your tits and tugs at one of your own nipples? and your sweet pussy clenches around him so tight when you do, clamps down on him in an hot, wet embrace, so what else can he do but cum?
dino —; say ‘i love you’
another sweet, sentimental boy. lee chan is head over heels for you, enamoured, obsessed, smitten, infatuated with you… the list of things he is around you is endless.
it shows in the way he fucks you—always takes his time with you, never rushes taking you apart. every touch of his is intentional, meant to set you both ablaze. when he eats you out to prep you for his cock, he has to try not to cum in his pants from how pretty you are.
where he really doesn’t stand a chance however is when he’s bottomed out inside you, as close as he can possibly be with you—so close you’re practically one. the sweetest sounds fall from your lips, spurring on his expert thrusts.
his forehead is plastered to yours, the pair of you revelling in one another’s sweat and gasps for air. “i love you,” you confess gently, and chan falls over the edge of pleasure not a moment later.

Max Verstappen
It all started with a few innocent scrolls on TikTok—girls pranking their boyfriends left and right—and you figured, why not? Max had just handed you his card to go grab a few things from the store, trusting you like he always did. That’s when the perfect plan popped into your mind.
"Call me if you need me," he said casually, completely unaware. You hummed in response, leaned over to kiss his cheek, and slipped out of the car with a little too much pep in your step.
Max leaned back in the driver’s seat, letting the car sit idle in the parking spot. At first, he thought nothing of your delay. He assumed you were just stuck in a long line. Meanwhile, inside, you were hunched over a cart, hiding your giggles behind your hand as you rehearsed the prank in your head.
Eventually, you managed to compose yourself, strolled out with your bags in hand, and tossed them into the back seat before slipping into your place beside him. You buckled up, eyes wide with innocent mischief.
"The man I ran into was really nice—he paid for everything," you said smoothly.
Max turned toward you, brow already furrowing. "The man?" he echoed, confused. "What are you talking about, lieverd?"
You nodded, playing it cool. "Yeah, he said I was pretty and that I shouldn’t have to pay on my own, so...he paid for everything."
Max leaned toward you, staring like he was trying to read your soul. "You weren’t paying on your own? That was literally my card."
"Yeah," you shrugged, holding it out to him. "But he insisted."
He took the card from your hand, jaw tightening slightly. "How old was this guy?"
You pretended to think, dragging out the moment. "Hmm… around your age, I guess?"
Max scoffed. "And he just—what—started complimenting you and offered to pay? Just like that?"
You fought the urge to burst into laughter. "He wasn’t hitting on me," you said, smiling just a little too much.
"He called you pretty," Max shot back, frowning. "And don’t get me wrong—you are—but still. He clearly meant what he said. That’s not casual."
You just nodded solemnly, letting the tension hang in the air a second longer before he abruptly unbuckled. "Alright, I’m going back inside to find this guy."
You grabbed his arm, laughter spilling out now. "Max, wait—"
"No, seriously," he huffed. "He thinks you’re single or something. Like he has a shot. I can afford to fly you to Monaco, let you live in my house, be spoiled every day of your life—what can he offer you?"
You were full-on laughing now, tears threatening to sting your eyes. "Baby, I was pranking you. There was no guy. I used your card like you said."
Max froze, blinking at you. Slowly, his stern expression melted into something softer, almost amused.
"You’re evil," he muttered, shaking his head. Then he let out a quiet laugh of his own. "Don’t joke like that, lieverd. You know I don’t care if people think you’re pretty—but if someone’s actually hitting on you? No. Absolutely not."
You leaned over, kissing his cheek. "Look at you, all protective and jealous."
"You nearly scared me to death, lieverd,"
▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀
Charles Leclerc
Charles was home, lounging on the couch with Leo curled up beside him, the little dog resting his chin on Charles' leg like the most loyal companion. The TV played softly in the background, a comforting buzz. Before you left, Charles had handed you his card with a smile, telling you to get whatever you were craving for dinner tonight. But instead of heading straight home after shopping, you were too busy plotting your latest prank—one inspired by a few too many TikToks.
"I'm home!" you called out as you stepped inside. At once, Leo perked up, leaping from the couch and padding over to greet you with his tail wagging wildly.
Charles looked over his shoulder. "I was starting to worry," he said, standing up. "You took longer than usual."
You smiled innocently, setting your keys down and slipping off your shoes. After leaning in to kiss his cheek, you dropped the first line. "Sorry, this guy paid for everything and we just got caught up in conversation."
Charles froze, staring at you like you'd just said the most absurd thing he’d ever heard. “Je t’ai donné ma carte ?” he asked, blinking slowly.
You hummed. "I know, but he was really sweet. Said I shouldn’t worry my pretty little head about paying. He covered it."
Charles just stared for a moment before slowly shaking his head. “That’s unbelievable. People are going to assume you're dating him.”
You fought back a grin, holding it in with all your strength. "No one’s going to think that but you, Charles."
“Sure, sure,” he muttered, eyes narrowing as he turned on his heel and headed toward the kitchen. You followed him, bags in hand.
"Tu fais la moue ?" you teased once inside, catching a glimpse of his unmistakably pouty expression.
Charles didn’t even try to hide it. He just stared at you, arms crossed like a sulking prince. “I treat you well. We live in Monaco. We have Leo,” he gestured around, like the dog was part of his romantic résumé. “I drive in F1—and you're letting some random guy hit on you, baby?”
You couldn’t help it anymore. You broke, laughing as you set the bags on the counter. “I was just messing with you, Charles. There was no guy. I used your card—like I was supposed to.”
He let out a long sigh, his head dropping back slightly. “Don’t scare me like that, woman. I thought some random was actually going to take you away from me.”
You walked up to him, wrapping your arms around his waist. “I’m with you, Charles. Why would some random have me?”
He gave a tiny shrug, still sulking. “You never know.”
You patted his back playfully. “I got you good,” you said through a soft laugh. Leo barked at your feet as if to agree, his tail wagging like he, too, was in on the joke.
Charles looked down at the dog, then at you, his pout slowly morphing into a smirk
“Yeah, well—just wait, Y/N. One day, I’ll get you back.”
▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀
Lewis Hamilton
You and Lewis had been shopping together most of the day, casually wandering the aisles like the soft domestic duo you were. At some point, Lewis veered off toward the pet section to get Roscoe a few new treats and maybe a fresh toy or two, promising to meet you up front when he was done. You nodded sweetly and went your own way—though behind that innocent look, you were plotting. And not just any plan: a prank. A classic, lighthearted trap for your sweet, loving, “just tell me what you need and I’ll buy it” boyfriend.
After grabbing everything you came for, you paid for your cart using your own money, then waited with the most innocent look you could muster. Lewis eventually showed up, a plush dog bed under one arm and a pack of Roscoe’s favorite snacks in the other.
"You already paid for your stuff?" he asked, dropping the items onto the counter.
You nodded, slipping into character. "No actually… this really nice guy offered to pay. Said I looked beautiful today, and he didn’t want me lifting a finger."
Lewis blinked. “He what?”
"He paid for me," you repeated with a shrug, biting the inside of your cheek to keep from smiling. "Said it was his pleasure. Real gentleman type."
Lewis squinted at you like you just told him someone insulted Roscoe. "Baby… that man was flirting with you."
You shook your head, playing dumb. “No, he was just being nice.”
“Right. ‘Just being nice,’” Lewis echoed, making air quotes with a look of complete disbelief. “Because men randomly pay for groceries out of the kindness of their hearts and not at all to shoot their shot with a gorgeous woman.”
You kept your poker face as he grabbed the shopping bags and kept going. “I don’t see myself out here buying random women’s almond milk and cucumbers just to be nice. That’s a move.”
You tried to hide your smirk. “You sound a little… jealous.”
Lewis narrowed his eyes. “I’m not jealous. I’m logical. Man sees a beautiful woman, she’s alone, he tries his luck with his wallet. Basic flirting algorithm.”
“I mean, it worked. He was really sweet.”
That did it.
Lewis ran a hand down his face and let out a long sigh. “Look, it’s great someone thinks you’re hot enough to swipe a card for—but you know I’m right here. You never have to let some man pay for you when your boyfriend drives for a living. Just sayin’.”
You watched him ramble with a barely contained laugh as he kept going.
“I mean, come on, I spoil you for a reason. And now some stranger thinks he can step in with a grocery run? That’s his whole move?”
Finally, you couldn’t take it anymore. You burst into laughter, your body shaking as you leaned into the cart. “Lewis. Babe. It was a prank. I paid for everything. No man, no flirting, no almond milk Casanova.”
He blinked, pausing mid-rant. “Wait… you’re serious?”
“I am. Gotcha.”
He took a breath like someone who’d just been pulled from open water. “I’m forty, woman. You can’t play with my blood pressure like that.”
You grinned. “Alright, old man.”
Lewis straightened up immediately. “I am not an old man.”
“You didn’t even catch on to the prank, grandpa.”
He narrowed his eyes, his lips tugging into a smirk. “Forty doesn’t make me old. It makes me wise. And this wise man now knows he’s being pranked in public.”
You patted his back “Don’t worry, baby. I’ll go easy on you next time.”
Lewis gave a low chuckle, wagging a finger at you.
“No, no. You started something. A prank war is officially declared. So… just be prepared.”
▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀▄▀▄ ▀▄▀
Lando Norris
When it came to you and Lando, pranks weren’t just an occasional thing—they were a lifestyle. The relationship came with love, laughter, and a mild risk of heart attacks. Like the time he woke you up at 3AM with a horror mask and you nearly karate-kicked him into next week. Or when you served him a fish smoothie and he banned you from the blender for a month. Your TikTok followers? Obsessed. They lived for every prank war update, every meltdown, every squeal of revenge.
So when you got tagged in a new viral prank trend, it was practically a public request to strike again. You didn’t hesitate. The phone was propped up, camera rolling discreetly, and you were all set. Lando, of course, had no clue what was coming.
You heard the door open and quickly pretended to be busy with prep in the kitchen. He walked in, hoodie slightly damp from the gym, cheeks flushed from the workout. “Smells good,” he said, setting down the grocery bag before leaning in for a soft kiss. “Took me forever to find that stupid oat cream you like.”
You smiled sweetly. “Oh, you didn’t have to. I ended up sending that list to Joshua earlier, and he already grabbed everything for me. Paid for it too. Said, and I quote, ‘anything for the pretty lady.’ Sweet, huh?”
Lando froze, hand still half-in the bag. “Joshua?”
“Mm-hmm,” you nodded, biting your inner cheek.
He blinked. “As in your friend Joshua? The one who wears too much cologne and tried to teach me how to salsa at that dinner party?”
You tilted your head. “Yeah, he insisted.”
Lando scoffed, standing up straighter. “I literally sweat through my hoodie at the gym, fought for a parking spot, went to four aisles for oat cream—and you let another man, one who smells like a Hugo Boss sample sale, buy your groceries?”
You struggled to keep a straight face. “He was being nice.”
“Oh, nice? Nice?! That’s the international signal for flirting. What’s next, is he gonna tuck you into bed and read you poetry? Babe, if I see him handing you a spoon while you're cooking, I might lose it.”
“Are you jealous?”
“I’m insulted. I’m offended. I’m—” He placed a hand over his chest. “—deeply betrayed. I mean, I pay rent! I drive race cars for a living! I went out to get snacks for your cravings at 4AM one time! And now I’m just… footnote boyfriend?”
You snorted. “You’re so dramatic.”
He gasped. “Go ask Joshua to massage your feet tonight then. My spa services are officially retired. Hope he has peppermint oil.”
At that point, you burst into laughter, pointing toward the camera recording from the corner. Lando followed your gaze, groaned, and dragged a hand down his face. “You little gremlin,” he muttered. “Of course it’s a prank. Of course.”
“Aww, you love me.”
“I do. Too much. Which is why you’re lucky you’re cute, because anyone else trying this would be blocked and reported.”
You leaned up, kissing his jaw gently. “You’re my favorite victim.”
He smirked. “And you’re my favorite menace. But just know—this war? It’s not over. I know you're scared of some bugs and some...other things. I’ve got Oscar on speed dial.”
Your eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“Oh, I will. I already know where you hide your slippers.”
“LANDO NORRIS!” you shrieked as he backed into the hallway, giggling like the absolute child he was.
“Love you!” he called over his shoulder.
“Calling Oscar now! Let’s ruin her life!”

Carlos Sainz
Carlos and you had been on the road for way too long, the kind of drive where you’ve already debated three podcast topics, played the same five songs on repeat, and shared half a bag of chips in silence. You were coming back from a much-needed trip—two full weeks away from the chaos of daily life. But now, you were finally heading home. And honestly? You were ready.
Still, you needed one last laugh before real life kicked back in. So, naturally, you plotted a prank.
You’d been riding like a queen in the passenger seat the whole time—pillow tucked under your head, cozy in the Christmas blanket Carlos had gotten you last year, doing everything but offering to drive. So when Carlos offered to go into the store to grab some snacks, you stopped him with a sweet smile and a kiss to his cheek. “I’ll go,” you insisted, taking his card from his hand.
He smirked. “Okay, but bring chips. Whatever you pick, I’ll eat it, mi amor.”
Inside, you grabbed everything you both liked—chips, drinks, something sweet. But instead of swiping his card, you paid with yours. And as you made your way back to the car, the plan was already in motion.
Sliding into the passenger seat, you handed him his card back with a calm smile. “You know,” you said casually, “the cashier was really nice. Paid for everything himself. Said he’d just take it out of his paycheck. Also told me my shirt looked cute.”
Carlos stared at you. “Wait—my shirt? That’s literally mine, you’re wearing my clothes.”
“Yeah, but he liked it,” you said with a shrug. “Said it brought out my eyes.”
Carlos blinked at you like he’d just short-circuited. “Oh my god.”
You bit your lip, trying to hide your laugh.
“Mi amor, what do you mean some random cashier paid for your snacks and flirted with you while you were wearing my clothes? Do I look like I’m sharing?”
You tried to keep a straight face as he gestured wildly at the snack bag like it had betrayed him. “I don’t even want these anymore. I can’t eat the chips. They’ve been... compromised.”
“Carlos—”
“No, seriously. You have a ring on your finger! Granted, it’s a promise ring, but still, the promise is loud and clear! I was gone for five minutes and I already lost you to a gas station Romeo?”
That was it. You burst out laughing, your head thrown back as tears formed in your eyes.
He narrowed his gaze, suspicious. “Wait. No. Don’t tell me...”
Still giggling, you nodded. “It’s a prank. I paid with my card.”
He groaned and started the engine again, shaking his head. “You almost gave me a heart attack, mi vida.”
You wiped your eyes, still giggling. “I have to tell Charles about this. He’s going to love it.”
Carlos turned, deadpan. “Do not tell Charles. I swear, if that man starts calling me Gas Station Cuckold or something—”
“You’re being dramatic!”
“I’m being real!” he exclaimed. “That was emotional damage.”
You leaned over and kissed his cheek. “You love me.”
He sighed. “Way too much. And that’s exactly the problem.”
You laughed again as he muttered under his breath, pulling back onto the road. “Just know...this isn’t over. I’ve got something planned. Something evil.”
“Oh yeah?” you smirked.
He grinned. “Just wait till you wake up to find glitter in your shampoo.”
“CARLOS!”
“Love you!”

Fernando Alonso
You and Fernando had only recently tied the knot — rings still shining, wedding playlists still stuck in your heads. The honeymoon? Cut short by his ever-demanding racing schedule. But to make up for it (and to keep his guilt in check), Fernando had surprised you with a follow-up getaway, your choice of destination. Romantic, thoughtful… and, as you decided, the perfect setting to prank your new husband.
The internet had become obsessed with your marriage — overnight, you'd gone from “regular girl with decent taste in sunglasses” to “Fernando Alonso’s wife who posts adorable reels.” So when fans started tagging you in prank challenges, you figured: why not give the people what they want?
Camera hidden. Kitchen smelling like garlic and glory. Tomatoes being sliced with intention. You were ready.
Fernando walked into the vacation home and immediately lit up. “Huele bien,” he smiled, shrugging off his jacket.
“Mhm,” you hummed, sliding the tomatoes into the pot. “Took me a minute to get it all, though. I accidentally brought the wrong card with me to the store.”
He frowned immediately, concerned. “You should’ve called me, mi amor. I would’ve paid—”
“No need. A very sweet guy at the store paid for me. Said he didn’t want a pretty girl like me to struggle.”
The air stilled. Fernando blinked. Once. Twice.
“I’m sorry, what?” he said slowly.
You kept stirring the pot, tone completely casual. “Yeah, he just insisted. Said it was no trouble. Even complimented my top. Super nice guy.”
Fernando was now planted in place like he’d just been hit with a yellow flag mid-race.
“So... some stranger,” he started, arms crossing, “paid for your groceries. Complimented you. And you just… thanked him and left?”
“Yep.”
“You didn’t say, ‘Oh, I’m married to Fernando Alonso, two-time world champion, racing legend, heartthrob since 2001’?”
You blinked innocently. “Didn’t think it was necessary.”
Fernando threw his hands up. “Necessary?! That ring I gave you is the size of a small island. It has its own timezone. You could signal planes with it.”
You bit back a grin as he kept spiraling. “And this guy? Just decided to be your white knight? At the produce section?! He sees you picking tomatoes and thinks, ‘Yes, this damsel needs saving’?”
You nodded, trying so hard not to laugh. “Pretty much.”
He started pacing. “No. No, no, no. See, I make you feel better when you’re down. I buy you things. I compliment you. I signed up for that role! This guy? He’s just freelancing emotional support. I should find him.”
You turned, finally pointing toward the fruit bowl hiding your phone. “Or... you could relax. Because you’ve been pranked.”
Fernando froze. “You’re joking.”
You just smiled.
He leaned in, spotting the camera, then groaned dramatically. “Oh my god. I gave a full speech. I even included my racing credentials.”
“And it was a very passionate monologue,” you teased.
He stared at you, narrowing his eyes. “You’re evil.”
“Maybe. But I’m your evil.”
He shook his head, muttering something in Spanish before pausing. “Also… be honest with me. Was I really hot in the early 2000s?”
Your head snapped up. “Fernando. You were unfairly hot in the 2000s. Like, ‘could’ve ruined my life if we’d met back then’ hot. The hair? The fire? The attitude? I would've fallen hard.”
He raised a brow, trying not to look too pleased. “Gracias, mi vida. Very sweet of you.”
Then he pointed at you, smug returning full force. “But don’t think flattery will save you. You will be pranked back. And when it happens? You’ll regret ever stirring that tomato sauce.”
You giggled, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “You’re adorable when you’re dramatic.”
He smirked, grabbing a spoon and tasting the pasta. “I was adorable in the 2000s too.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’m going to post this entire thing.”
“I know,” he sighed.
“Just tag me in it — and put ‘Oscar-worthy performance’ in the caption.”

Can u pls do a dad lando fic with like toddler aged daughter who sees like Leo and Rosco and gets rlly excited and I playing with them x
Leo & Roscoe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The paddock was buzzing, as it usually did on race weekends. Mechanics bustled between garages, the press scurried for quotes, and fans cheered from behind barricades. But in the middle of all that energy, something unusually sweet caught a few sets of eyes.
A tiny giggle.
"Papa, look! Leo! Roscoe!" a tiny voice squealed, pointing an excited finger toward two familiar furry figures.
Lando turned just in time to see his three-year-old daughter, Yn, waddle-run across the hospitality area, curls bouncing, her little feet moving with all the determination of a toddler on a mission. She had spotted the stars of many an F1 fan account: Leo, the golden dachshund, and Roscoe, the bulldog.
Oscar, sitting beside Lando on one of the outdoor couches, chuckled. "She’s faster than some rookies I’ve seen."
Lando blinked. "Oh my god—Yn, wait!" He stood, momentarily frozen as Yn reached the two dogs.
Leo was curled up by Charles’ feet, while Roscoe was lying down in the shade near Lewis, panting lazily in the warm afternoon sun. Before either man could react, Yn crouched—well, more like squatted unsteadily—and gently patted Leo’s back.
"Soft," she murmured with wonder.
Charles raised his brows but quickly smiled. "Well, bonjour, petite."
Roscoe lifted his head, curious. Yn turned, her eyes lighting up as she saw the bulldog. "Roscoe!"
Lewis chuckled. "Someone knows their F1 dogs."
Roscoe stood and trotted over to Yn, who clapped her hands in delight. "Doggie friend!"
By now, Lando had made it over, a mix of apology and panic written all over his face. "Sorry! I'm so sorry. She just—she saw them and—"
Lewis waved a hand. "It’s okay, mate. Roscoe loves kids."
Charles nodded, kneeling down beside Leo. "And Leo’s used to being pampered. I think he likes her already."
Indeed, Leo had stretched out, tail wagging slowly, clearly content as Yn gently traced a finger down his back.
Oscar arrived behind Lando, hands in his pockets, grinning. "Should we start charging her appearance fees now? She's the real paddock highlight."
Yn turned to look up at the adults, face glowing. "Papa, look! They’re smiling!"
"They are," Lando said, laughing nervously, kneeling beside her. "You have to be gentle, remember?"
"I am gentle," Yn said seriously, now petting Roscoe’s big head. "He has flops." She touched his ears.
"Floppy ears, yes," Lewis said, visibly charmed.
Charles leaned toward Lando. "She’s got a good touch. Didn’t even flinch when Leo twitched his tail."
Lando exhaled. "I was afraid she’d pull it. She did that with a stuffed giraffe once. It did not end well."
Yn, blissfully unaware of the adults’ conversation, was now arranging a pretend picnic with her toy banana and a leaf she had found. Roscoe and Leo, surprisingly cooperative, sat in front of her as she "served" them.
Oscar lowered his sunglasses. "I feel like we’re watching something sacred. Should we bow or something?"
Lewis laughed. "Don’t interrupt the tea party. Roscoe takes his role seriously."
Charles sat cross-legged on the floor, chin resting on his hand. "This is the most peace I’ve felt all week."
Lando gave him a sideways glance. "You don’t even have kids."
"But I have Leo. He counts."
"Fair."
The group stood back, letting Yn enjoy herself. At one point, she put a leaf crown on Leo’s head, and the dachshund surprisingly didn’t shake it off. Charles took a photo. "I’m printing this. Christmas card."
Time passed without any of them noticing. Mechanics came and went, occasionally pausing to smile. A few fans, noticing the scene through the media fence, whispered excitedly and took sneaky photos—because even in Formula 1, nothing beat a toddler giving two dogs an imaginary feast.
After nearly thirty minutes of playtime, Yn stood up, brushing off her little shorts.
"Papa," she called, toddling over. Lando immediately bent to meet her eye level. "Yes, baby?"
Her eyes were wide, serious. "Can we have a dog now, too?"
Silence.
Oscar made a choking sound.
Lewis turned away, pretending to cough.
Charles burst into laughter.
Lando blinked. Once. Twice. "Uh…"
Yn waited expectantly.
He glanced helplessly at the others. "Guys. Help."
Oscar crossed his arms. "This is all you, Dad of the Year."
"No pressure," Lewis added with a grin.
"You can borrow Leo anytime," Charles offered innocently.
Yn tugged Lando’s shirt. "Please? I’ll feed it and hug it and name it Princess Pancake."
Oscar burst out laughing. "Princess Pancake?!"
"She already has a name picked out," Charles noted, impressed.
"And responsibilities listed," Lewis added. "What else could you need?"
Lando groaned, rubbing his face. "I can’t believe I’m losing a negotiation to a toddler."
Yn climbed into his lap, looking up with those wide, pleading eyes. "Pleeeease, Papa."
He sighed dramatically. "We’ll talk to Mummy, okay?"
Yn squealed in delight, throwing her arms around his neck.
Oscar mock-whispered, "You’re doomed."
Lando didn't even try to deny it.
Later that evening, after the garage had quieted down and the sun began to dip below the paddock horizon, Lando found himself still thinking about that moment.
Yn had fallen asleep in his arms, her little arms tucked around her stuffed monkey, utterly exhausted from a full day of canine adventures. Her cheeks were still slightly flushed from the sun.
Lewis, passing by on his way back to the motorhome, paused. "She’s out?"
"Like a light," Lando replied quietly.
Lewis nodded at Yn’s peaceful form. "She’s a sweet kid. You’re doing good."
Lando glanced down at her. "Thanks. It’s... a lot, sometimes. But she’s worth all of it."
Charles joined them, having retrieved Leo, who was now snuggled in his arms like a loaf of bread. "She really does have good instincts. Leo doesn’t warm up to just anyone."
"I noticed," Lando said, smiling. "Sorry again for her ambushing him."
"She didn’t ambush," Charles said. "She approached with love. That’s different."
Oscar jogged over, carrying a juice pouch. "She left this in the pit. Thought I’d rescue it."
Lando chuckled. "Thanks, man."
Oscar nodded, then grinned. "So. Dog adoption center tomorrow?"
"Don’t start."
"I heard Princess Pancake is available."
"I swear—"
"I’ll come with you," Charles said with faux seriousness. "We can test how she reacts to breeds."
"You all are enjoying this too much," Lando muttered.
Lewis laughed. "Just wait until she brings a kitten home."
Lando looked like he might faint.
Yn stirred slightly in his arms and mumbled in her sleep, "Princess... Pancake..."
All three drivers lost it.
Lando sighed, smiling despite himself. Maybe a dog wasn’t the worst idea after all.

----------------------------
The sound of the house settles into one of those rare, aching silences — the kind that hums against your skin after a long day of toys scattered across the living room floor and tiny feet padding after you, or the sounds of the juice spilling from the table and onto the meticulously kept hardwood.
Quinn, Leo, and yourself are currently sharing one of the small toddler beds for bedtime stories, as you begin smoothing the edges of her quilt on the side of Leo that he is curled up into, the faded colors soft under your fingertips. You can hear the breathing of two worn-out toddlers coming in slow, even puffs now.
Your voice is a whisper as you finish the last page, Goodnight Moon balanced on your knee, thumb running absently over the cracked spine.
“…goodnight stars, goodnight air, goodnight noises everywhere.” Your last breath is practically silent as you recognize that the two children have fallen asleep; you knew they would fall asleep seconds after you started reading for the second time.
You close the book quietly, pressing it to your chest for a moment like a shield, before setting it aside on the little nightstand. The main mission now is to get yourself out of the bed, trying to make your way around and down to the bottom so you do not disturb them.
It is not unusual that they fall asleep in each other’s beds; the five- and three-year-old have practically slept in the same bed all along – as long as you have been here to notice it. It was more of a comfort thing, you find. Maybe it has to do with the loneliness that they feel from their parents, you are not entirely sure. All that you know is that you do not find an issue with leaving them to find comfort in each other.
As you’ve gotten off the bed, you place the children’s book on the small shelf beside the bed. For a moment, you simply sat there, watching the slow, even rise and fall of their chests, the occasional twitch of a dream beginning to form in one of their tiny limbs. It was a rare kind of peace—something delicate, something sacred. To be a child is an honor, and you feel it’s an honor to watch them.
As you make your way to the door, you’ve smoothed your palms down the front of your denim shorts, casting one last look at the sleeping children before slipping quietly from the room. You pulled the door almost shut behind you, leaving it open just a crack, just the way they liked it – just in case they ever needed to find you.
In the large home in Hampstead, it was quite hard for the little ones to manage their way around on their own.
The hallway was quiet; the light had dimmed outside in the summer heat but hadn’t completely set as it crept through the windows that lined the hall. There was a stretch of warm wood floors and framed photographs—beaches, birthday cakes, candid laughter caught mid-breath. You padded barefoot down the stairs. The house smelled faintly of cinnamon and soap, a comfortable blend that was beginning to feel familiar.
You made your way to the kitchen space, in the small breakfast nook, where your laptop sat waiting for you on the corner, an abandoned Word document still blinking impatiently on the screen as if it had been just sitting and waiting for written words to come that never would.
There was a mug of cold coffee next to it, forgotten hours ago prior to bath and bedtime, even after Leo had demanded "one more story, pleeeease," and Quinn had chimed in with her irresistible little lisp.
You sat down with a soft sigh, pulling the computer closer, brushing a lock of hair behind your ear. There was a paper due for your Early Child Development summer course, which, on a complete ironic level you had decided to write about the role that storytelling played on a cognitive level in early childhood. However, you found yourself staring at the cursor, your thoughts wandering lazily through the evening, replaying the sound of Quinn’s giggles and Leo’s earnest questions about dragons and knights.
A sip of the cold coffee wasn’t what you needed – it was truly something stronger, but you knew that you had to get this finished before Monday. On a normal Friday, you would be trying to find a plan – something to do with some of your friends. But now, it was sitting in your boss's kitchen waiting for inspiration to hit so you could at least write the first sentence.
It was an hour later when you heard the key turn in the lock; the sound that someone had gotten home.
You glanced up just as the front door pushed open and Harry stepped inside, the heat of the summer night air following him in for a moment before he shoved the door closed with his foot. His hands held his satchel, a cup that he used for coffee in the morning, and his keys.
He looked exhausted, a bit of distress coating his face.
His dark hair was a mess, flattened on one side like he had been running his hand through it for hours. His jacket was slung over one shoulder, the fabric rumpled, and his tie hung loose and crooked around his neck. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing the hint of a tattoo curling just beneath his collarbone, something you hadn’t dared stare at for too long.
You had never seen it in full detail, but you knew that it was there.
Without a word, Harry tossed the jacket onto the back of the nearest chair and headed straight for the bar tucked into the corner of the living room, without as much as a ‘hello’ to greet you in the dimly lit kitchen space. You heard the clink of glass against glass as he selected a tumbler and set it down with a tired sort of deliberation.
“Long day?” you asked softly, unsure if you should interrupt his brooding, or if he might want to do that in the peace of the space he owned.
He glanced over his shoulder at you almost as if he didn’t see you sitting there, the corners of his mouth tugging into a crooked smile—half amusement, half pure exhaustion.
“Oh, I mean, you could say that,” he muttered, reaching for a bottle of whiskey and giving it a quick once over. The amber liquid caught the light as he poured it, generous and unbothered. “Never-ending meetings. Clients who think they know better than their attorneys – which is ironic considering we’re hired to make sure that they win, and they should keep their mouths shut. Partners breathing down my neck about quarterly numbers. You know, just another day in the office.”
He shook his head as he set the bottle back down with a muted thunk.
You closed your laptop, pushing it aside, the document forgotten for the moment. Something about the slump of Harry’s shoulders, the way he rubbed the back of his neck, made you want to offer him something—comfort, distraction, maybe just company if he needed it.
Harry came home a lot to an empty house – no one to talk to, so your presence might have been needed every once in a while. Once he got home, you would go out with friends or go to class or just get yourself out of the house since you were home with the kids all day.
He took a sip of his drink and exhaled slowly, eyes falling closed for a beat. He leaned against the kitchen counter. One at a time, he rolled his sleeves up to his elbow. When he opened his eyes again, they found you across the room, lingering, uncertain.
“Kids asleep?” he asked, his voice a low rumble that filled the cozy space between you.
You nodded in confirmation. “Out cold. Leo made me read Goodnight Moon twice. Quinn didn’t even last through the first time.”
“How many times does the moon need to be told ‘goodnight’?” Harry’s mouth quirked again, softer this time. “Must mean you tell the story in an enticing way.”
There was something in his gaze then—something heavier, quieter, something that lingered a little too long. You felt your skin prickle with awareness, a flush rising in your cheeks that you tried to ignore.
“They’re good kids, it’s the least I can do.” You said, your voice a little too bright, a little too quick. You stood, tucking your chair in, needing the motion to shake off the sudden, humming tension in the room.
“I-I, uh,” You swallowed as you looked at your laptop that was shut sitting next to you. “I should be writing a paper, actually. It’s due on Monday.”
Harry watched you then, swirling the whiskey in his glass, the ice clinking softly. The look on his face made it seem like had some thoughts in the back of his head.
Then he glanced over at you, almost shyly.
"You want a drink?" he asked, uncertainty in his voice as he didn’t look back up when you didn’t answer right away.
You blinked, surprised at his question. It wasn’t that it was unlike him to be friendly – he was one of the nicest bosses that you could have ever had. It was mostly because it was unlike him to be doing something other than putting himself in his office, shutting the door, and working until two A.M.
"I—" You glanced down at your laptop, the half-finished paper still glowing through the screen. "I probably should keep working..."
Harry’s mouth quirked, a half-smile that felt both boyish and unbearably tired.
"Come on," he said, pushing off the island. "It’s a nice night. We can sit outside. Just for a little while."
You hesitated — but the softness in his voice, the aching loneliness he didn’t even bother to hide, undid you. Something about thinking of him sitting out there alone, in the quiet garden that probably held too many memories, made you nod instead.
"Okay," you said quietly, giving him an encouraging smile.
Harry grabbed a second glass and poured you a measure of whiskey without waiting for confirmation on how much. You slipped your laptop onto the coffee table, accepting the drink he pressed into your hand when you went to receive it. His fingers brushed yours — a light, accidental touch — but it felt like something more.
The dark, tattooed circle on his ring finger always stood out to you, but you never asked.
He led the way through the French doors into the garden that sat off the living room.
The night air wrapped around you, thick and warm, rich with the smell of honeysuckle and something green and wild. Crickets sang somewhere off in the hedges as the warmth of the summer breeze had tickled your skin and left you with an ease. The fairy lights Harry had strung over the small stone patio twinkled overhead, casting everything in a soft golden glow.
He slouched into one of the old wooden chairs, sprawling with all the boneless grace of a man who didn’t know how to relax but was trying to anyway.
You settled into the chair across from him, tucking your legs up beneath you. The whiskey glass was cool against your palm as you took another sip.
For a while, neither of you spoke – you stared up into the night sky, seeing the reds and pinks that summer brought to the atmosphere. You just sat there, breathing in the humid, fragrant night, the soft clink of his glass against the chair arm the only sound between you.
Harry broke the silence first. His voice different than usual as he stared at the whiskey glass that settled on the arm of the chair.
"You’re so good with them," he said, meaning Leo and Quinn. He shook his head like he couldn’t believe it himself for admitting something he had kept to himself.
You shrugged, a little embarrassed by the compliment. "They make it easy. And it’s my job. I’m sure you’re good at your job, too."
His smile was faint at your own compliment, almost self-mocking. "Not always."
You glanced at him, catching the tightness around his mouth, the way his hands curled around the glass made your eyes want to stare, but your attentiveness made you look up.
There was a moment when you stopped and thought about your next words and if you should say them aloud. You bit on your lip as you tasted the whiskey with hints of vanilla and all-spice.
"You’re doing a good job, you know," you said. "They’re happy. They talk about you all the time.”
Harry made a soft sound — not quite a laugh. He leaned his head back against the chair, staring up at the night sky.
"Some days I feel like I’m just...trying not to screw them up too badly," he said. "Trying to be two people at once, and trying to be present, do things with them. But I’m so glad that you’re around because I feel like… I don’t know, I feel like you’re just good at what you do and you’re good with them and they love you.”
Your heart ached at the raw honesty in his voice. It felt like he had been waiting for a long time to say those things to you.
"You’re more than enough," you said, not knowing what else to say to him. You didn’t know if it was the whiskey talking, or if there had been more on his mind. You sat with your heart open to allow him to know that everything would be okay – it was just a rough day. We all had them.
He turned his head, looking at you properly. The distance between your chairs felt smaller suddenly, like the air had shifted, pulling you closer as you sat under the lights in the garden.
Harry’s home had been your home for the past six months as you tried to make your way through medical schooling; you wanted to work with children, and you need to make a bit of extra cash. This was a job that was close to your school, staying in the area you wanted, and Harry was kind enough to try to work his schedule around yours just because you were so good at what you did.
There really hadn’t been a moment when it was the two of you like this, so you treasured it, in a way. You were happy to see this adult side of him – not the lawyer, not the father.
His eyes were dark in the low light, unreadable as he blinked staring at his glass tumbler that was starting to sweat with condensation. But something flickered there — something fragile and aching.
"You're kind," he said, voice low. "I don’t know if it’s true, but...thank you."
You smiled, sipping your drink to hide the sudden rush of heat to your cheeks. Harry tipped his own glass toward you slightly, a lazy sort of toast.
"To another day," he said.
You leaned forward a bit, making sure that you could clink your glass against his. "To another one."
The whiskey burned sweetly down your throat, settling low in your stomach as you took your sip. You leaned back in your chair, letting the wood help perch you up a bit.
Harry shifted in his chair, turning slightly toward you, his knee brushing the edge of your chair. The touch was casual, almost careless — but your body betrayed you, hyperaware of the small point of contact.
"You’ve really changed our lives," he said suddenly, voice rougher now. You could tell that he was having a thoughtful moment; he didn't know how to express it correctly, you could tell by his facial expression after he said it. "Having you here."
Your breath caught.
"Harry—" you started, but the words tangled.
He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, the glass dangling from his fingers. His tie hung loose around his neck, his shirt rumpled and open at the throat. He looked undone in a way that made your chest ache.
"I’m probably crossing a line just saying that," he said, a hint of a smile ghosting across his mouth, he pushed away the comments just as easily as he made them. "I’m just tired. Ignore me."
But you couldn’t ignore him. The words settled between you, too heavy, too important.
"You’re not," you said softly. "Crossing a line, I mean."
He watched you carefully, like he wasn’t sure he believed you. Like he was waiting for you to push him back into his safe, professional box.
Instead, you shifted a little closer, your drink cradled loosely in your lap.
"It’s nice to just...talk," you said. "To be real with someone."
Harry's mouth twisted, something tender and pained flashing across his face.
"Not many people want the real version of me anymore," he said. "Just the lawyer. Or the dad," He paused for a moment, "Or the ex-husband. The...functioning adult."
You looked at him — really looked — and saw the man beneath all the roles he wore like armor.
"I like the real you," you said before you could stop yourself. "You've been very kind to me since I've been here, and I think sometimes we all just need a break from it all."
Biting your lip, you thought about the plans you had in the morning. You thought about how you were going to leave Harry on his own, taking the kids to the farmers market to shop for groceries for the weekend.
"Why don’t you take the kids to the farmers market in the morning? Maybe it would be good for you – just the three of you."
His eyes flew up to you, like he had been unsure of your intentions, so you interrupted his thought.
"I was going to take them because they had this tulip picking event – a bit selfish, because really the tulips were for my enjoyment," You found yourself starting to smile, "But if you want some alone time with the kids without me, don’t hesitate to ask."
You watched as he took in a breath, finally nodding at your request. "That would be really nice, actually. I probably do need that."
The air between you went very still.
Harry’s gaze dropped to your mouth for the briefest, most dizzying second — then back up to your eyes. His hand twitched, like he wanted to reach for you but thought better of it.
You stayed frozen, breath shallow, heart thudding so hard it drowned out the crickets, the soft hum of the garden lights.
He smiled then, slow and deliberate but almost shy, and leaned back in his chair, putting just enough space between you to let you breathe again.
"I should probably call it a night before I make a complete ass of myself and say something so regret," he said, voice warm and rough and fond. He downed the rest of his drink before you heard the ice clink against the glass.
You laughed softly, the tension breaking just enough to make your hands stop trembling around the glass.
"Okay,” You agreed, your voice a whisper in the warm dark.
Neither of you moved, though. Neither of you really wanted to – you weren't sure of why. There wasn’t a rush.
The air between you stayed charged, heavy and tender, even as Harry finally, reluctantly, pushed up from his chair.
He stretched his arms overhead, the hem of his shirt pulling just a little at his hips, before he dropped his arms and looked down at you, smiling in a way that made your stomach twist.
"You staying out here a little longer?" he asked.
You nodded, unable to find your voice. It had been a good idea to come out and get some warmth on your skin.
Harry hesitated like he wanted to say something more. Like maybe there was something he could say to untangle the complicated thing sparking between you — but whatever it was, he swallowed it down and shook his head, voting against it.
Instead, he simply said: "Goodnight, moon.”
Your breath hitched — not at the word itself, but the low, absent affection in it, like it had slipped out without thinking.
"Goodnight, Harry." You whispered.
He gave a small, almost pained smile — and then turned and went back inside, leaving the door cracked open behind him.
You stayed there long after his footsteps faded upstairs, the night humming gently around you, the taste of him still lingering somehow, though he hadn't even touched you.
You closed your eyes and leaned back in the chair, cradling the cooling whiskey glass in your lap, feeling the slow, aching bloom of something new — something dangerous — take root inside you.
THE NEXT DAY
The first thing you noticed when you woke was the sunlight that came in slanting through the gauzy curtains, painting the room in pale gold. That was the peaceful thing that you noticed.
The second thing was the sound of the house alive around you, along with what had been going on downstairs. Small feet pattering across hardwood floors, the clatter of shoes being found, the low rumble of Harry's voice cutting through the chaos with patient authority.
"Jacket, Quinn. No, the green one. Leo, leave the dinosaur — please, bud. We don't need to bring that with us."
You smiled into the pillow as you laid on your stomach, stretching your limbs luxuriously, savoring the rare slow start to your morning.
The front door banged open and shut with a final thunk, followed by the muffled sound of tires crunching on the driveway gravel as they made their way away from the house.
Then, there was that sound. Silence.
You turned onto your back, staring up at the ceiling. The house, usually bustling, noisy, spilling over with half-finished crafts and impromptu pillow forts, was suddenly, blissfully still.
An unexpected, precious pocket of time all to yourself. You took in a deep breath as you found a bit of a thrill as you let your hand touch the lower side of your hip. Your fingertip slowly circled round, feeling the bone of it. Slowly, you let your hand caress the edge of your panties.
Shutting your eyes, you let your hand fall deeper underneath. The touch of your clitoris confirmed your need; it was sensitive and warm to the touch, needing the affection you had time to give.
All alone.
Then, all the sudden, you hear your name said aloud. Your eyes blink up and open; it had felt so real.
But it wasn’t real. The sound of the voice coursing through your thoughts was from him. It excited you – knowing that he was on your mind. But the total encapsulation of his being had turned you on, giving you a scare as you thought about what that could mean or why it happened in the first place.
You were sitting on your elbows, then. Wondering if you should continue with the thought of him. Licking your lips, you think about the way his hand wrapped around the whiskey tumbler– fingers delicate and and poised around the cold glass. You can imagine him flicking the water off his fingers, cold and with ease.
Your fingers dance around you, guiding your thoughts dirtier. Your fingers dive into you, letting out a gasp as you think about the feeling of his cold hands on your hot skin.
You think about the way that the tattoos on his chest dance along the neckline of his shirts, the forbidden heat of it driving you insane. Curling your fingers, you lift your legs to bend to give you further access inside of yourself. Your two fingers are pushing deeply in and out, missing the feeling when you pull out.
A gasp escapes your lips as you feel your two fingers in a way that excites you – it pleasures you too well. Your swollen and warm and filled with something that is not him.
But his voice echos in your head as you let your thoughts hang above you like they're watching you please yourself at just the thought of him. You palm your clit with the thought of his head dipping between your thighs, opening you, letting his tongue work on your clit a way that feel exhausting.
Your thoughts mimic a feeling of guilt as you can practically feel the flat of his tongue, eyes darting up to see your reaction at the surge of pleasure he allows you.
"Don’t stop," Your murmur to yourself, "Fuck, Harry– please."
You echo the words, murmurs, and whimpers alike. A feeling grabs ahold of you and pulls you onto the bed, forcing you to take a moment to feel the excitement that rushes through you at once.
You're pulsating around your fingers; your orgasm holding you hostage for a moment as you feel the comedown of the high that felt so momentarily strong.
A few moments of clarity were needed as you laid on the white sheets, feeling the warm summer sun come in through the windows. Your heartbeat falling back to normal, your breathing starting to come to a normalcy.
There was so much to unpack in just the small moment for yourself. A lot of questions, a lot of solitude was needed.
Without overthinking it, you pulled away your covers, stepping out of the bed The sun outside was shining high, you could feel the heat just from the window.
You decided that it may be nice to lay by the pool for a bit, since you have some time off this morning for yourself. The paper could wait — after the conversation with Harry last night, this would be good for you.
It took a moment to find, but once you did, you pulled on your swimsuit — a simple black two-piece, practical but flattering — and layered a loose linen button-up over it. The fabric, soft and worn from washing, hung almost to your mid-thighs to give you a good cover-up.
Barefoot, you padded downstairs, grabbing your thick paperback novel that had been sitting on the coffee table and a pair of sunglasses from the hall table where you left your purses and keys.
The back door creaked gently as you pushed it open.
Outside, the garden was bathed in the early summer light, the air already warming but still edged with a faint coolness in the shade. Bees floated lazily among the wisteria vines curling over the trellis, and somewhere nearby, a lawnmower buzzed faintly, already at work.
You crossed the flagstone patio and dropped into one of the lounge chairs with a satisfied sigh, tucking your legs underneath you and flipping open your book. The sun was hot – you could feel it on your skin as you laid there in the summer bliss.
The words swallowed you whole into a captivating space where time and troubles didn’t matter.
Hours slipped by, unnoticed. You read and sipped iced water from a sweating glass, shifting positions when the sun crept higher overhead, letting the heat seep into your skin. It had taken you for surprise every moment your drifted off into a sleep; you felt so at peace.
You were so absorbed in your comfort that you barely noticed the car pulling into the driveway on the other side of the stone wall until the faint sound of car doors slamming echoed down the side yard.
You straightened up, heart giving a small, startled flutter. It was almost like in that small timeframe; this had been your paradise. It was like you had forgotten where you were, or who you were living with.
A moment later, the gate door swung open — and Harry stepped on in.
You watched from down by the pool, unseen for a moment as you realized he had been dropping some items off by the gate.
He looked rumpled in the most achingly appealing way — sunglasses shoved up onto his head, hair mussed from the breeze. A bag of fresh produce was slung over one arm; his sleeves rolled to the elbow. There was a looseness about him, a casualness you rarely saw after his long days at the firm.
His eyes lifted and found you almost instantly. For one suspended moment, everything froze. You knew that he didn’t expect to see you here, and why should he have? You weren’t one to sit by the pool, or enjoy your time off like this – you barely got time off, as it was.
The bags slipped slightly down his arm as he instinctively jerked to a stop, muscles tightening. His gaze, dark and unreadable, swept over you in one swift, stunned pass: the bare legs folded under you, the black triangle of your bikini top peeking through the loose, open buttons of your shirt, the lazy, sun-drunk way you lounged there with a novel half-forgotten in your lap.
It lasted no more than a heartbeat. Maybe two as you drew in a breath. But you felt it like a physical touch, like static sparking in the heavy air between you.
Harry dragged his gaze away with a visible effort, dropping his eyes to the ground as if scorched by what he had seen. His jaw flexed, a faint pink rising over the stubble roughening his cheeks.
You snapped your book shut without thinking, heart hammering suddenly against your ribs.
He opened his mouth — maybe to apologize, maybe to say something normal, anything — when the kids burst through the garden-gated door behind him.
"Daddy! You have to show her!" Quinn shouted, her tiny sneakers slapping against the ground as she had followed him into the back gate.
You could tell that he hadn't planned for them to follow him, but he had lingered here too long, and they had not been caught.
Leo crashed into his thigh, clutching a brown paper bag like it was treasure.
Harry blinked, as if remembering where he was, and quickly stepped back to let them through. Quinn ran straight to you, a bundle of something crumpled and colorful clutched in her small hands.
"We got you flowers!" She said, breathless with excitement. She thrust them into your lap: reds and yellows spilled out from the paper.
You looked down: tulips, slightly battered from the ride home, their bright heads bobbing on long green stems. Your chest squeezed thinking of your conversation last night and the way he had thought of your disappointment possibly missing out on the tulip festival.
When you look up, you see Harry standing against the gate with a dimpled smile on his face as he watched his children shower you with affection.
"They're beautiful, sweetheart," You said, your voice quiet as you realized you had even really spoken to anyone yet today. You reached out and smoothed Quinn’s hair away from her forehead, smiling. "Thank you."
Leo tugged on your sleeve, brandishing his prize, a small jar of golden honey sealed with a checkered cloth lid.
"Real honey," he said proudly. "We saw the bees and everything!"
"Actual bees," Quinn emphasized, nodding gravely as if her brother could have been kidding, and she needed you to know that.
“As opposed to, you know," Harry stated afterwards, "Fake bees."
With a humorous tone, you stare at him with a smirk, both of your eyes covered by sunglasses. His hands pushed into the pockets of his shorts that came up midthigh, a hat on his head shielded him from the sun.
You laughed, scooping Leo up into your lap without thinking, tucking him against your side as you inspected the jar. His hair was warm and sun-smelling under your chin.
You felt Harry's gaze on you again but it was different this time; heavier this time, lingering.
Something about the way you sat there, barefoot, and golden in the morning sun, arms full of his children, your laugh spilling easily into the bright air… it may have given his heart a ping of something.
He cleared his throat roughly, going to grab at the gate door that had shut behind him.
"I'll, uh," he said, voice hoarse, "grab the rest of the stuff from the car." He disappeared outside before you could answer.
You watched the door swing gently in his wake, your heart still thudding unevenly against your ribs. You couldn’t deny what had passed between you — whatever invisible current had snapped taut across the sunlit garden.
And now, sitting there with the kids chattering excitedly around you, you realized two things with startling clarity: one, Harry was fighting with the idea that you loved his children. And two, you were starting to realize that sense too.
“C’mon, you two,” You say to the kids; Quinn has started to look through the novel you had sitting out but knowing that she couldn’t understand the words made you smile. “Let’s go help your daddy, hm?”
They scrambled ahead of you barefoot, little feet slapping across the hot stone that was baking under the unusually warm England sun, as they darted back into the house from the French doors. You followed at an easier pace, pausing just long enough to brush your damp hair off your neck from when you had taken a dip in the pool earlier to cool off, the thin straps of your bathing suit still just a bit dewy but practically dry. Your cover-up, a gauzy thing that barely reached mid-thigh, fluttered behind you as the breeze filtered through the door.
Harry was just pulling a crate from the boot of the car and into the house when he caught sight of you coming in through the kitchen
His hand faltered slightly on the box.
He hadn’t expected the way the sunlight would frame you like that, haloing your hair, catching the edge of your smile as the kids crowded around his legs to help. His daughter tugged at a canvas bag that he had sat inside and not fully bringing into the kitchen, insisting she was strong enough to carry it herself. Leo squealed with excitement when you bent to lift a carton of strawberries, your cover-up gaping slightly at the neckline as you moved.
Harry tore his gaze away, and grabbed at the list he didn’t really need in his pocket to make sure that he had gotten everything on it.
“Thanks,” He said when you stepped past him with a crate tucked in your arms. He caught the scent of your sunscreen—warm coconut and saltwater—and something else, something that made him dizzy for a beat too long.
“Of course,” You murmured, your voice easy, unaware—or pretending to be, at least.
In the kitchen, the kids were already unpacking the groceries with great ceremony, piling vegetables onto the kitchen counter in chaotic towers as they took one by one out. You joined them, setting down the crate and reaching for a peach to inspect, your fingers brushing the soft fuzz of it thoughtfully.
Harry brought in the last of the bags. He moved slower now, like he didn’t quite trust himself to get too close. But when he stepped up beside you and saw you standing there barefoot, tan legs bare beneath your cover-up, backlit in the window light—he knew he was in trouble.
“Do you want help with making lunch?” You asked, turning to him. Your lips curved gently, like you knew exactly how he was looking at you and weren’t afraid to let him.
He blinked, taken off guard by your question. “Yeah—uh, yeah, sure. I was thinking something easy. Sandwiches maybe?”
“That’s perfect,” You said, already reaching for the bread.
You moved around him like it was natural. You always had, he realized. Slipping past him in narrow spaces with a hand lightly grazing his back that usually felt like fire on him or brushing his forearm when you passed him the kettle, or leaning just slightly into him when the kids were being rowdy and you both needed a moment of shared silence. It was always small. Subtle.
But now… he was noticing all of it. There was no subtly, it was just happening.
He opened the fridge while you chopped tomato slices. And when you leaned over to grab a plate from the cabinet, the hem of your cover-up lifted just enough to show the curve of your upper thigh, the dark tie of your bikini bottom flashing against your skin. He made the mistake of looking.
Then you caught him; he looked practically ill.
You turned your head slightly, a knowing glint in your eye. “Is everything okay?”
His throat felt dry as he shrugged and tried to play off the behavior. “Yeah. Yeah, just… making sure I’ve got enough…” He trailed off, looking at the list, almost like he hadn’t known what to respond with.
Your heart beat faster at the way he seemed… nervous. You smirked faintly but didn’t press him, only went back to slicing vegetables with quiet focus.
He stood beside you, trying to concentrate on the sandwiches, but every time your arm brushed his, every time your hip nudged his as you both reached for the same cutting board, he felt like the floor might tilt under him. It was unbearable and addictive all at once—the domesticity of it, the small sweetness of this moment that looked, from the outside, like you’d done this a hundred times before.
He couldn’t remember what this feeling was, it had been too long since he had felt the draw of someone’s presence. Not with the same ache, the same hesitation. The need was one thing. But the softness of it? The rightness of it? That was new.
You handed him a finished plate with a horizontally cut sandwich, and your fingers touched—longer than necessary. And this time, neither of you pulled away quickly.
From the table, Leo called out, “Are you done yet? I’m starving!”
“Leo, be polite.” Harry stated back at him, acknowledging that the toddler had been a bit rude.
You smiled, breaking the tension, and pulled away to finish assembling the food.
Harry didn’t say a word. But when he caught your profile in the corner of his eye, the dip of your neck, the curve of your shoulder where your cover-up had slipped slightly off, he bit down on the inside of his cheek and looked away fast, chest tight.
Lunch was mostly a noisy affair, as it usually was with little voices bouncing off the walls. The kids sat perched around the kitchen table, chomping on peach slices and crustless sandwiches. You sat beside Leo, wiping mustard from his chin with the corner of a napkin, while Harry stood at the sink rinsing out the tomato-streaked wooden cutting board.
It had almost settled into a rhythm until Quinn suddenly piped up between bites of cheese that she had strategically picked from her sandwich.
“Daddy, when is Mummy coming this year?” The words landed with a thud in the air. Heavy and unexpected. You tried not to make a deal of it, but you had to glance at Harry to catch his reaction to her very innocent question.
Harry froze, hands still under the running water. You glanced at him instinctively and saw his shoulders tense—not a flinch, exactly, but a tightening, like he was bracing himself to give her an answer.
“She said maybe she’d come for the fireworks last time,” Quinn continued, oblivious, swinging her feet under the table. You didn’t exactly know what that meant – a promise made between her and her mother.
Leo looked up from his half-eaten sandwich, interested now. “Yeah, she missed them last year.”
You sat still, carefully quiet.
At the sink, Harry let the tap run another second too long before turning it off abruptly. The silence that followed was too sharp for the easy sunlit mood you’d all just been sitting in, and you felt a shift in the air.
He dried his hands on a dish towel slowly. Then, with a voice that was just a little too calm, he said, “We’ll see, love.”
Quinn frowned at his nonresponse. “But—”
“Let’s not worry about that today, alright?” Harry said, just a touch firmer now. He turned to face them, towel clenched in one hand. “I don’t know all the answers, but I do know you need to finish your lunch so we can continue with our day.”
The kids quieted, sensing the edge to his voice even if they didn’t understand it. Quinn looked down at her plate, nudging a slice of the fallen tomato with her thumb. Leo murmured something about the boat that they had gone on a few weeks ago with Harry’s family and went back to eating.
You felt the air shift like a tide pulling away. Harry caught your eyes across the kitchen. Just for a second. There was something there—something raw and tired and older than the man who’d been smiling moments ago. A look that said: Don’t ask. Please don’t ask.
You never did, and you weren’t going to start. But you did know that it seemed to be off limits.
Instead, you wiped Leo’s hands, gathered the empty plates, and stacked them with soft efficiency.
“I’ll take care of this,” you said gently, your voice low but light. “Why don’t you go and get their swimsuits on, and I’ll clean up here.”
“Go swimming?” The kids both perked up again at the mention of it and slid off their chairs after they had their plates removed, already halfway down the hall. Leo followed, dragging a half-eaten peach in one hand.
When they were gone, you placed the dishes in the sink beside Harry who had not made an effort to follow the kids to their rooms, careful to keep your movements quiet. You didn’t want to crowd him, but you didn’t want to leave either.
He scrubbed a hand across his jaw, exhaling roughly as if in thought. “She calls when she wants to. Sends gifts. Postcards.” He laughed, short and bitter. “And somehow they still think she might show up and make jam tarts like she used to.”
You said nothing, just rinsed the plates slowly. You knew that listening was the best you could do right now, so that’s what you did.
“It’s been nearly a year,” He added, quieter now. “But I’m still the bad guy if I say she won’t come.”
You glanced at him, turning the sink off. “You’re not the bad guy.”
He looked at you then—really looked at you—and there was something like gratitude swimming behind the guarded frustration in his face. Something tired and real.
“I didn’t- I don’t mean to get sharp with them,” He murmured. “It’s just… every time they ask, it sets me back. I think I’ve moved on. That I’ve built something steady for them. But then it all just… it builds up. I hate that their only memory of her is going to be the times she didn’t show up.”
“I get it,” you said gently. “You’re trying to hold it all together. It’s okay to be tired of the cracks, and for trying your best.”
He didn’t respond at first. Just stood there, drying his hands again even though they weren’t wet. You were close now—only a few inches of space between you. The hum of the ceiling fan, the distant seagulls outside.
“Kids hold onto the hope that things might go back to how they were.” You tell him, leaning against the counter.
He let out a humorless breath at that, shaking his head. “Yeah. Except she’s off in Provence or Cannes or wherever, living in some gated house, and sending ‘love from Mum’ in cursive on postcards from places she’s been that they’ve never even heard of before.”
You stayed quiet. Not out of awkwardness, but because it felt like he just needed to say it aloud. Needed someone to hear him for once. The way he opened to you wasn’t shocking – Harry was quiet an emotional man, you could tell that he had a lot being carried on his shoulders, but he never opened up to you the way he had been.
It was just someone to listen and to not judge him.
“She left a year and a half ago,” he said, still holding the towel in his hands. “Didn’t want this life anymore. Said she felt stuck. That she wanted to be ‘a woman again,’ not just a mother.”
Your stomach turned a little, not knowing how a mother leaves her children. You didn’t want to judge, but your impression had already soured. You crossed your arms over your chest and tilted your head as you listened.
“She married again to a – I don’t know, CEO of something somewhere. They live in luxury. Not that I didn’t try, not that I didn’t give her all of this,” Harry looked around the spectacular Hamstead home that had accommodations far greater than just the four of us that lived there. “She just didn’t want… responsibility. She wasn’t meant to be a mother, and I do feel that maybe I,” He paused, “Maybe I coaxed her into it. Like, she only did it for me.”
His voice was softer when he said, “Some days, I think I’ve forgiven her. Other days, I look at Quinn when she asks about her mum, and I just—” His jaw clenched. “I get angry.”
“She’s allowed to miss her mum,” you said gently. “But you’re allowed to feel angry, too, especially when your resentment is so high. You’ve been showing up. Every single day. That counts for something – the kids will remember that and see that. They will hold resentment too, but they will grow up understanding who was there for them.”
“Thanks,” he said finally, voice low. “For not making it a thing. With them… or me.”
You gave him a small, knowing smile as you thought of the times that Quinn would ask you questions you didn’t know answers to, so you would deflect. Harry looked at you then with something new in his eyes—soft, searching, a question he didn’t quite dare ask.
And just for a second, you let yourself imagine what it might feel like to reach up, thread your fingers through the edge of his T-shirt, and kiss him right there in the middle of the kitchen. To drop the pretense.
But you didn’t. Because the kids were down the hall, and because Harry was still trying to figure out how to let someone in again. So instead, you bumped his shoulder gently with yours and said, “Come on, let’s go make sure that peach Leo was holding doesn’t end up in a bed somewhere.”
He gave you a small, crooked smile. “Goddamn kids.”
You laughed, and it broke the tension just enough.
But the look in his eyes lingered—long after you left the kitchen, long after the kids had rallied for their towels and snacks and toys.
It clung to the warm corners of the day like something unsaid but undeniable.
Later that night, bathtime was always a bit of a circus in the house, especially when you didn’t have help. But tonight it felt even more chaotic, their sun-soaked energy bubbling over in the form of shrieks and slippery limbs.
Harry was also here – a lot of the times, he was at the office or working late, which is why you were there to help. He often came home in the middle of bathtime, getting a run down from the kids on the day and how they were doing while trying to eat his dinner as he stood in the doorway while you worked.
But tonight was different – tonight, you two worked as a team, each of you taking a kid and spending time with them. Leo had somehow managed to dump half a bottle of bubble bath into the tub before you’d even turned on the tap. Now the bathtub was just a sea of foam, the scent of orange blossom rising in the warm air.
You sat on the edge of the tub, shorts damp at the edges, scrubbing Leo’s feet gently while he chattered about how he was going to be “the biggest shark” in the pool tomorrow. Harry was toweling Quinn’s hair, his forearms flexing with the motion, tattoos slick and shining from the steam and water. You had to look away.
Or rather—you tried to, but kept noticing how they stuck out around the tight t-shirt he was sporting.
All afternoon, you’d caught flashes of him in the pool: tossing Leo effortlessly into the air as the boy shrieked with joy, letting Quinn ride on his shoulders during splash fights, his own laughter echoing off the garden walls. The sun had traced golden lines across his skin, catching on the wet curve of his neck and shoulders, the faint pink of a sunburn spreading across his back and cheeks.
And the tattoos—how they shifted and twisted with each movement. You’d noticed the faint trail of water dripping down his ribs, over the anchor inked on his wrist, and how your fingers itched to touch them. Not for the first time.
“I think the bubbles are trying to eat me!” Leo shouted, thrashing like a sea creature, and spilling water over the edge of the tub.
“They’ve claimed you,” Harry declared dramatically. “There’s nothing we can do now – you’re lost in the sauce, brother.”
Quinn dissolved into laughter again, slipping off the towel pile in her giggles as she made her way into her bedroom, Harry following.
By the time both kids were dried, lotioned, and wriggling into their pajamas, it was nearly nine. Harry read to them on Quinn’s bed—something about a traveling mouse—and you sat in the hallway, folding towels from the laundry, as you listened to him read. His voice was low, soft around the edges, full of patience and presence especially when the kids would interrupt with questions.
You heard him wrapping up with the story, both receiving a kiss goodnight; Quinn getting a forehead kiss, Leo a noisy cheek one. Harry soon made his way into the hallway and closed the door behind him softly after saying his goodnights.
You turned toward Harry. He stood just a few steps away, one hand on the back of his neck, his own hair still a little damp.
“They adore you,” You said, your voice quiet in the hush.
“I adore them,” he replied, then added, “and they adore you.”
The air shifted. Like the stillness before a thunderstorm, the pressure obliterating.
You started walking toward the kitchen, meaning to clean up the dinner dishes you’d abandoned earlier, but he followed, falling into step beside you. You had wondered if he had something else to do, to leave you to your job. Neither of you said much as you wiped down counters and stacked plastic plates. Your bodies moved in sync, brushes of skin here and there—a shared space carved out of routine.
You bent to load the dishwasher and felt his presence behind you before you turned into him. Straightening, you found him watching you again.
You didn’t know which of you moved first. Only that one second the air was thick between you, and the next, his mouth was on yours.
It was a soft kiss. Cautious, at first. Just a press, a seeking acknowledgement of being felt. Then, it deepened. Just enough that you felt the tenseness in your shoulders fall.
His hand slid to your jaw, tilting your face slightly, his thumb grazing your cheek as he kissed you like he wasn’t sure if he was allowed—but couldn’t help it anyway. You tasted the remnants of toothpaste on his lips, the faintest hint of fresh watermelon from earlier, and something else entirely—desire, long-hushed and finally slipping free.
You kissed him back, stunned by how easy it was. How right it felt as you tilted your neck to meet his lips.
Almost like a light switch had turned on, he pulled away – fast.
“Shit,” he muttered, shutting his eyes at the acknowledge; as soon as your eyes met when he pulled away, it was like you were on fire and he was touching you with bare hands. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—fuck.”
“Harry—”
“No, I know. That was… that was stupid. I crossed a line.”
You blinked, still catching your breath – he wasn’t wrong, but you didn’t want to make him feel worse. You participated; you didn’t end it – you didn’t stop him. You didn’t… want him to stop. “It wasn’t stupid.”
He ran a hand through his hair, backing a step away from you like it might undo what had just happened, or both of you might just forget it.
“It’s not fair to you,” he said. “I can’t… I shouldn’t blur things. You’re here for the kids, and I’m—Christ, I’m a mess, and I just—”
You stepped forward this time, your voice gentle but firm as you go to touch him, but he flinches at the way your fingers grace him. “Harry.”
He looked at you then, eyes filled with panic and something else—something raw and vulnerable like he feels so conflicted with how he is responding.
“I- it may have been a mistake, but,” you said. “Whatever that was… it didn’t feel like a mistake.”
He didn’t say anything right away. Just stood there, breathing hard. But when he finally nodded, slow and quiet, you saw it in his eyes: the want. The fear. The pull.
The storm had been coming for a while. That kiss was just the first crack of thunder, and you were feeling the effects of the downpour.
You watch as he threads his hands through his hair, leaning against the counter. The way that he starts to fall into an oblivion of dissociation from his thoughts, you worry that he’s going to spiral.
The kitchen was still, filled with the soft hum of the dishwasher and the sound of your breathing. You stood across from him, heart skittering from the kiss and the way he’d pulled away — not because he hadn’t wanted it, but because he had. He had wanted it so badly that he crossed the invisible line to get it.
Harry scrubbed a hand down his face, eyes darting around the room as if searching for something to ground himself.
You didn’t move. Just watched him.
“I’m – I really am sorry,” he said again, softer this time. “That was—impulsive. I didn’t plan it.”
You let out a quiet breath. “Neither did I.”
He glanced up at you, trying to fidget with whatever he can get his hands on as if you will see his hands shake with adrenaline.
“I just…” he trailed off, exhaling hard through his nose. “You make it too easy. Being around you. It’s like I forget how complicated it is.”
Your brows lifted gently, curiosity tugging at your features. “What do you mean?”
He shrugged, “I mean—this house. The routines. The mess. Bath time and sunblock and tantrums and grocery runs. It’s all supposed to be exhausting and a bit miserable in some capacity, right?” His lips curled faintly, staring down at his hands that were now wrapped up in an excess tea towel, “But when you’re here, it just… it’s better. Feels like I’m not doing it alone.”
You felt that—deep in your chest. A tight, warm pinch of something unsaid.
“I like the way things feel with you,” he continued, his voice raw now like it had been crafted by professionals, like the truth had worn down any resistance he had left. “Even the boring stuff. Especially the boring stuff. You make it—”
“Easier?” You offered quietly.
He nodded once, then a few times as if he thought of all the times that you had been there when it was hard, each one running through his mind. “Yeah.”
The silence that followed wasn’t awkward. It was heavy, yes—but with something tender. Something on the verge of spilling. You crossed your arms, mirroring him, your hip leaning against the island. “And that’s what’s confusing you?”
He sighed, running a hand along his jaw in thought, resting his head in his hand now. “I don’t know what I’m allowed to want with you,” he admitted, words very clear and concise as if he was placing jigsaw pieces and not wanting to force them, “You’re here because I hired you. You take care of my children. You live in my house. I don’t want to be—” He stopped himself, shaking his head, almost in a bit of disgust.
You tilted yours, stepping closer. “You don’t want to be what?”
He looked at you then, really looked. His voice was steady, if a little hoarse. “I don’t want to be the guy who takes advantage of the girl he hired to help keep his life from falling apart – it’s,” He grimaced, “It’s not who I am, and I don’t want you to get the impression of that. Really.”
Your stomach twisted. “Harry,” you said gently. “That’s not what this is.”
He hesitated, eyes flicking to your mouth, your bare legs with the summer sun-kiss on them from sitting out in the sun all day. “I want it to be more. But I don’t know how to let it be that without blurring everything.”
Your voice was quiet but certain in how you came to this conclusion. “Lines are only useful if they’re helping. But if they’re just keeping you from something good, then… maybe they need to be redrawn.”
Harry looked at you like you’d just opened a door he didn’t know he was allowed to walk through.
“I don’t know how to do this,” he said, with all of the honesty he could. “Not carefully. Not slowly.”
A small smile tugged at your mouth. “You don’t have to know everything right now. You just have to be honest.”
You were standing directly in front of him now; leaning against the island as he leaded against the countertops. The space between you now was warm, charged again.
“I think about you,” he admitted, “When I’m rinsing Leo’s cereal bowl. When I’m folding Quinn’s pajamas. When I walk into a room and you’re already there, barefoot, humming something under your breath. It’s like—this house… doesn’t feel empty anymore.”
That one hit you deep. You swallowed; throat suddenly tight at the thought of his loneliness being the culprit. It was one thing to let his mind and body talk, but knowing that it was because he just longed for the security of a partner made you feel touched.
“And that... scares me,” he added, voice low and honest as he came to that conclusion. “Because I’m not used to things feeling good and lasting.”
You nodded slowly, trying to understand where he was coming from. “I’m not asking for forever right now, Harry. I just need truth and honesty, and maybe we just…” You trailed off, shrugging, “We take this as it comes.”
The smile that crossed his face caught you off guard, it was showing his dimples that you knew were hereditary just in the way that his smile replicated Quinn’s perfectly. There was a bit of a blush on his cheeks, “The truth is, I want to kiss you again,” he said. “But I won’t. And like you said, we’ll take it as it comes.”
Your pulse thundered in your ears. You made the first move, stepping just forward until you were close enough to hear his breath in the quiet space. His breath hitched, and for a long moment, it felt like the world was suspended in that space between intention and action.
But he didn’t kiss you again. Instead, he reached for your hand, lacing his fingers through yours.
“I’ll walk you to your room,” he said, voice barely audible.
And just like that, the moment folded back into the quiet hum of the house again. But the charge—that didn’t go anywhere.
When you both padded up the stairs, your fingers still linked, it wasn’t about pretending anymore. It was about the start of something quietly, fiercely real but in the most uncommon of instances.
Harry stopped just outside your bedroom door, still holding your hand like he didn’t quite want to let go yet. His thumb brushed over your knuckles, and you watched the corner of his mouth twitch like he was fighting a smile.
“So…” he said, eyes flicking toward the door behind you, “this is your stop.”
You blinked at him, confused for a second — until you caught the playful tilt of his voice. “Are you—are you pretending this is a first date?”
He gave a dramatic shrug, leaning a shoulder against the hallway wall. “What can I say? Feels like I should walk you to your apartment. Make sure you got in okay. Maybe kiss you on the front stoop, ask when I’ll see you again,” He bit his lip, “I want to take things slow but I have to imagine it this way rather than you just already living with me.”
A breath of laughter left your chest before you could help it. “You’re ridiculous.”
Harry’s gaze dropped to your mouth, and the moment slowed, grew heavier. When he leaned in, it was hesitant, like he was asking you to meet him halfway – he was still redrawing those lines.
And so, you did.
The kiss was soft — just the brush of lips, careful and steady, the kind of kiss that lingered long after it was over. There was no rush, no battle for control. Just quiet confirmation that whatever was happening between you had already begun.
When he pulled back, he looked almost dazed, like it had completely changed his perspective. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Harry.”
You slipped inside your room, closing the door gently behind you. But long after your head hit the pillow that night, you could still feel the ghost of his mouth on yours, and you hoped that the phantom touch would haunt you just a little longer.
THE NEXT MORNING
You woke slowly the next morning, the kind of slow that only came after a long, sun-soaked day and a night full of soft, lingering touches and unspoken truths. The sheets were warm against your skin, the pillow still holding the faintest trace of Harry’s cologne – your mind may have just been playing tricks on you. Your limbs felt heavy in the best way, as if your body had finally relaxed after weeks of holding tension.
Somewhere downstairs, you heard the faint clang of a pan, followed by the sound of laughter — light and bubbling, the kind that cracked your chest open and made you want to smile without thinking. Afterall, your job was to get the kids up, get them ready for their day.
But the past couple days, you had slept in. you had been given a break from all of that.
You slipped from bed, wrapping your robe around you loosely, bare feet padding softly over the cool wooden floor. The light filtering in through the windows was syrupy gold, lazily stretching across the hallway in slanted lines. You followed the scent first — warm butter, something sweet, something citrusy, and the unmistakable richness of coffee.
When you reached the kitchen, you stopped in the doorway. Time slowed.
Harry stood at the stove, barefoot, in purple shorts and a black t-shirt that clung to his shoulders and arms in a way you couldn’t quite ignore. His curls were a little messy — like he’d run a hand through them too many times — and he had a spatula in one hand, a steadying palm on Leo’s back with the other.
Leo had his knees on the stool as he sat in front of the stove, eyes wide and focused, tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth as he gripped his own tiny spatula like it was a sword. Quinn hovered nearby in her pajamas, as she watched them from her spot sitting on the counter.
“You see those bubbles?” Harry asked, pointing to the pan, “That means it’s almost ready. Gotta be patient. The flip’s all about timing.”
“Now?” Leo asked, eyes wide with anticipation.
Harry smiled at his son’s impatience, “Few more seconds,” He watched as the little boy struggled with keeping it together before Harry nodded at him to act, “Okay, go on.”
Leo flipped the pancake clumsily and unevenly, but it made it onto the pan — and let out a triumphant yell at he did so. Quinn squealed, clapping, and Harry laughed, tilting his head back.
It hit you, then, the vision of him there, eyes soft with pride, his children giggling around him — the warmth of domesticity seeping into every corner of the kitchen. He looked like he belonged there. Like this was his favorite version of himself.
And then… you saw them.
Tulips.
A fresh bouquet — soft pinks and whites and yellows — tucked into a simple glass vase beside the sink, where the morning light caught the edges of the petals and made them glow. Just beneath them sat two coffee mugs. Steam was curling from the tops of them as if they were freshly poured.
Harry looked up just then, catching you standing there. He stilled, biting on the inside of his cheek.
For a moment, it was just the two of you in the space between that look — his eyes raking down your robe, soft at the edges, knotted loose around your waist. Your hair falling around your shoulders. Your smile barely formed. His entire face softened at your presence. He didn’t say anything, but his mouth twitched like he might want to.
“Morning,” you finally said, voice scratchy as you just woke up.
“Morning,” he murmured, gaze still holding you like something precious.
Leo turned, squealing. “We’re making pancakes! Daddy’s teaching us how to flip them!”
“He said we’re officially his pancake assistants,” Quinn added, nodding solemnly.
You stepped further into the warmth of the room, the floor cool beneath your toes as you reached for your mug. Harry passed it to you before you could reach, already fixed the way you liked it with a caramel color indicating he added creamer. Your fingers brushed his as he passed on the mug. The touch lingered — enough to send heat curling low in your belly again, like last night hadn’t fully settled.
“Thank you,” you said softly, glancing toward the tulips.
His eyes followed yours. “We thought you might like them.”
You didn’t have words for that — for how simple it was, and yet how deeply it rooted itself under your skin.
He turned back to the stove, flipping a pancake with practiced ease, letting the kids chatter around him. You stood at the counter, sipping the warm, rich coffee, watching him — the tattoos swirling down his arm as he reached for a plate, the way he leaned down to ruffle Leo’s curls, how he facilitated when Quinn spilled a bit of batter on her pajamas.
It wasn’t just that he was handsome. It was the way he looked at you when he thought you weren’t paying attention. The way his voice softened when he spoke to the kids to meet their needs, but also to navigate their feelings and help them understand the world around them. The way the kitchen had tulips and coffee and warmth and him in it.
You realized, suddenly, that you hadn’t felt this safe in years. He caught you looking again and smiled.
And you knew — just by the way his shoulders dropped, the easy way he moved toward you — that the night before hadn’t been a fluke; it was just built-up feelings that he had needed to express on how easy this life was. That something had shifted. That you weren’t imagining the way his hand had hovered near yours all morning.
That there was more coming. And it would be slow. And tender. And full of moments just like this one.
Fresh flowers, and all.

Days continue to pass by as peacefully as they did before. The bull you had been negotiating to buy is now happily roaming around, in the middle of all the chickens and the goats. An old guy, rather calm for one of his kind, who comes to greet you every morning. He even starts to play with your Bernese Mountain dog, not that you're surprised, Leo can make everybody his friend.
While you sit on your porch, slowly shifting on the rocking chair after a long day of work, you can see them running after one another. You name him Cowboy. The stable starts slowly being renovated, and your ankles are more sensitive than they used to be. But you get one wall done thanks to your nail gun, and you slowly start to get used to the recoil, barely even gasping at the loud sound anymore.
Evidently, it is seeing you perched on your stool that makes Johnny leave the security of his new house and cross the distance. It is barely day six after your meeting, and Johnny is growing restless, watching you from his window. He had been unable to do anything, and there was a mountain of chores waiting for him inside, but nah. Each time he sees you in the morning, a cup of dark coffee dwarfed into his hand, and you take his breath away.
With your laugh when the sun rises, when you go about and around with a skip in your step, a bucket of grains in hand. How you pat that dangerous bull and scratch at his head and trim the ginger hair around his head, uncaring of those giant horns that could impale you. Your yellow raincoat makes his heart ache with tenderness, but god, does he hate seeing you sitting on that stupid stool. Shouldn't be doing this, not by yourself anyway, not as long as he has something to say about it.
And you listen very well.
You’re trying to adjust the gutter, standing there while grumbling about it, a frown curling your eyebrows. It is not raining this morning, which is why you want to clean it and see if it needs changing as well, taking a handful of debris out. You hate the feeling of it, the leaves all wet that stick around your fingers, and the sight of dead insects and other things you don't want to know the name of. Your nose twitches in disgust, and you gaze away for a moment before dropping it down.
Johnny can feel a cold sweat pearling on his skin at the sight of you, sitting so prettily in such a dangerous position. You are wearing an adorable pink jacket today and a green silky scarf around your hair to keep your face free, with a little bow at your nape. It makes him want to nestle into you, cradle your elbow and kiss the soft flesh there. The sight of you is almost too difficult to watch for a man like him.
“Hen, ya’re goin to giv' me a heart attack.”
You jolt at the sudden aggravated voice, so concentrated on your task that you don’t notice the shuffling sound of him approaching your position. Your heart shudders in your chest, the rumble of his voice making your skin flush when you flicker your eyes at him, one hand securely holding onto the edge of the roof.
“God, Johnny!” You whine with the remaining of your fear, shifting so you sit with both feet on the stair, making the man hurriedly walk to you.
“C’mon now, lassie.” He asks of you, standing at the bottom of your high stool with careful eyes. His hair is unruly today, making you want to brush it back, and his black pants are already stained with mud. You can't imagine the state of his sneakers.
“What?”
“Get down. I’ll do it f'r ya.” He says back with no hesitation, already raising his hand for you to take.
The worry on his face is evident as he waits for you, warm eyes flickering along your silhouette, ready to rescue you if you fall. It’s what makes you accept his hand, that and the pain in your shoulders. You’re not certain how he’s going to take care of your gutter with one arm in a cast, but you don’t bother asking him, not as he is readjusting the silky scarf around your head with such a concentrated face.
It brings a shy grin to your face, having such a strong man bending down to you, his thick fingers pushing your scarf back carefully, and curling your hair back around your cheeks. You nibble on your lips, gazing up at him quietly when he wipes something from your cheek, his hair grazing your forehead at the proximity. It's with a gentle word that you give him your thanks as he thumbs at your jaw.
You watch him raise up on the stool easily, bulging arm catching your attention for a moment when he asks you for a tool. You feel your face slightly heat up as you falter toward your box, taken out of your admiration. Your hands push in the mess of it, and Johnny doesn't judge when you first show him what you think he asked with hesitation. He nods, and you grin once more before approaching, one hand on the edge of the stool, before you raise up and give it to him. You don't miss how his broad shoulders shift at each of his movements.
Once again, Johnny starts asking you questions, not that you mind much. It is rather nice to have someone to talk to. And Johnny is good company, always listening to everything you say with attention. His eyes flicker to your mouth occasionally, as if drinking the words you give him straight from the source.
"I decided on Scotland when I saw pictures of the mountains." You recall a little haze in your eyes while you think back on it. It's a happy memory, though it didn't start as one. "I lived in a city and grew up there. I wanted a change, and it called to me."
"Mountains, eh?"
"Yeah! I like the quiet. The nature. When it's spring or summer, I want to hike up there." You confirm, pointing at one mountain there, up west.
Johnny stares at the mountain, one hand busy screwing back the gutter in its rightful place, where it can't fall into your path or, worse, on you. When he gazes back at you, you're still admiring the landscape, with a gentle smile grazing your mouth. He can't really understand, having seen these mountains and nature all his childhood and travelled in dazzling places during his missions.
But if it's what brought you here, safe, to him, then he's pleased.
"And, everyone always told me the people were nice here. And the food." You add, twisting on your feet to lean against the stool, which barely moves under Johnny's weight. You cross your arms on a lower stair, and he huffs a laugh, catching your little smile.
"Food, righ'."
"That, and the houses cost less than in Island. And it's warmer, if you can believe it."
The screw dig into his palm when you say it, Island. Fucking hell, he could have never meet you. Could have awakened to an empty land, alone. Never known the sound of your breathing, or how your nose twitches when you smile.
"Everythin' is warmer than Island." He gruff, giving a good tug on the gutter and watching it stay put.
"True. So I came here."
The more he listens to you, the more certain Johnny is of the good in you. He makes quick work of the gutter as you explain it all to him. You desire for a refuge and have a family of your own to look after and care for. With your precious hand smoothing up and down your tummy and that genuine smile curling your mouth, it feels like redemption. To help you. To make you safe when you walk further in, your fingers curling around his palm, your rain boots sinking into the mud. You don’t care for the mess, he finds out. Not when you settle inside the stable, and tell him the work needed to be done next, with dust floating around you and a piece of spider web on your shoulder.
His knees shake as you settle one of your hands on his elbow, guiding him to where you keep the tools and the rest of the materials you will need for the rehabilitation of the stable. Your fingers tense inside the crook of his elbow, and he feels frustrated with his own state, not able to secure you with both hands. You lead him toward a table there, with the plan you have imagined laid out on paper. The drawing is rather rough, but he understands it easily.
"Five? Plannin' on buyin' horses, bonnie?"
"Mhm. A stallion, two mares. Then, time will tell," You hum, leaning into the table as you nod in confirmation. You had years of dreams, years of imagination, and of planning behind you. You know what you want and how you'll get them, too - there are so many horses that need a home. There are so many strays that need shelter. "I'd like a donkey too, but it'd be noisy for you."
"Dinnea care, bonnie," Johnny says, voice unwavering, completely honest. A donkey or not, it doesn't matter much to him. As long as you're happy. As long as it's not quiet anymore, empty. Anything else, it's fine.
"Then a donkey it is." You grin up at him, leaning closer into his space. He doesn't care much either, not when your shoulder nestles into his side while you go back to your explanation. Little independent girl, already thought of it all. Only need a strong man to help you.
Johnny is good at listening. His lieutenant might say something else, but he's well-behaved now. Better than when he first enrolled, a pent-up kid who only knew demining figures, the weight of negligence, and parents who could hardly remember his name. He's a good soldier now, broken apart and shaped back by an entity bigger than himself - bigger than the whole sky he even thought for a while.
Finding intel, chatting up some guys for distraction, following a plan. Johnny can do that, shit he wants to, feeling useless by himself, without anything to do in the silence. And your plan, it's a damn good one. He can see you don't really know what to do, but you went and looked it up, and did it yourself, sweet girl, finding what tool to use for what, the width each box needs to be, and what's the best wood to buy for a decent price.
He doesn't mind having you guide him. Pointing his target, the next step for this mission and even less when you reward him with a smile, much better than any medal or tight handshake he ever received in return for his service. You look so pretty there, doing your best as you measure the planks and cut them carefully with gloved hands. Even with the protective glasses perched on your nose, you're a sight for sore eyes. And the doc said exercise is good or something like that.
So he listens to you, well. Intently. Never turning his back on you, always adapting to your soft orders and determined wishes with no hesitation, his mind quiet as you soothe him into action. You don't have Kyle's sickening smile, or his Lt's rough hands that dig deliciously into him, nor Cap's approving eyes that make his teeth hungry for more, but god, you are something.
He's desperate for your praise, for that smoothing hand down his back as you come to watch the finished result. It makes his chest puff, makes his hands tingle with anticipation, and he's eager to do more, just for another look from you. You have these soft eyes, a dreamy voice that sounds like a melody, and he feels like a damn pup, a lovesick mutt famished for the warmth of you that makes him drool. Aye, you don't need to be Kyle, or Lt, nor Cap. He'll do anything you ask, do anything you need. He'll be good.
It’s well into the afternoon when you enter the stable again, with a plate filled with a warm teapot, two mugs, and some sandwiches you made for the two of you. It’s no surprise to find that Johnny is very quick with his hands, even with one not in good shape, and you find yourself standing there, by the table, with shining eyes as half of it is already finished.
After a long and grumbling discussion, Johnny had let you work too but not without the threat of making him leave and doing it all by yourself. Though he managed the heavy lifting all on his own, you can't deny that. Your heart stutters, finding him putting on a lock, his large form bent forward and strong shoulders rolling underneath his sweater.
“Johnny?”
“Aye, hen?”
“Let’s take a break, hm?” You propose, watching him gazing at you from over his shoulder.
It’s almost immediate how he puts down the screwdriver and shifts on his feet to face you. Black boots he went and fetched in his house, trudges on the ground, and your eyes flicker to the dark curls around his head, seeing drops of sweat shining on his skin. He does not move away from you anymore when you approach.
Before, there was a moment when Johnny would stiffen, all of his body rigid as he watched you close the distance.
Instead, now, he leans into you as if anticipating your next move, blue eyes blinking as he waits patiently. You pass the clean towel around his face, wiping away the crass and wood dust accumulating on him. The arch of his nose, with a slight bump, the bones of his cheeks that you gently rub clean, even his scarred temples that you do not mention.
Johnny allows you into his personal space gladly, his eyes shining with an energy you can't quite decipher. Your head tilts back when you roll your weight to your toes, raising yourself to slide the towel over his nape with a smile. You have to shuffle closer, enough that your shoes tap his own, your belly pressing into his coat as you slide the towel over his skin. You blink before finding his eyes that never left you.
“You hungry? I made us sandwiches.”
Big blue eyes stare down at you, and you have half the desire to stroke them and feel his long lashes tickle your fingertips before he offers you a nod. Your mouth turns up into that beautiful smile once again – a sight he will never get tired of – before you step backwards. His body sways forward; the magnetic force you affect him with is inevitable. He stays close, towering on your right side, and watches quietly as you fill the two mugs there, and your shoulder brushes his chest when you cut the sandwich in two.
He relishes in everything you grant him with.
From where you both sit, you can see well into your land. The little river there, down the slight hill that leads to Johnny’s house. The trees at the edges of the forest bend and dance beneath the wind. The thyme tea warms you as you listen to Johnny eating with gluttony.
Your lips twitch at the groaning he lets out, and with warm cheeks, you glance his way. His eyes are closed, and he munches about one sandwich already eaten. His legs are spread out as he bites another piece of it, barely breathing between mouthfuls, and you let out a little amused giggle, seeing him nod mindlessly to himself.
“I’m guessing it’s good, then?”
“Bloody amazin’, hen.”
Your face brightens again as you let out a chuckle, finding Johnny endearing. It's a strange thought to have about a man, but one you can't contest. Your hands cradle your cup as you watch him, a smile lingering on your lips when he sighs, finally satiated. It’s the least you can do after today. Your hands twitch then, when he raises his hand to his lips, licking at the tip of it. A pink tongue passes the threshold of his mouth and curls around his thumb, licking the last crumbs.
There is something slightly erotic in it all, seeing how his fingers shine with his own spit as he leans back in his chair, completely satisfied by your cooking. Big, large hands, calloused and scarred, now used to help create your home, knuckles pink under the little dark hair there. Large frame, warmed by the tea you made for him, and the food you nurtured him with.
“What’s next, bonnie?”
“Mhm?” You hum, almost losing yourself in the sight of him.
“After tha’, what do we wan' to do?”
“Oh! My porch needs some repairing.” You answer, shifting in your chair to face him, noticing his use of the ‘we’ with affection. You don’t mind it. Could definitely use the help and the strong arms.
"Mhm. Nothin' inside needs some restoration?" He hums, squinting his eyes at you from his place. It makes you fidget in your seat, lips pinched down before you shrug your shoulders, trying to appear innocent.
"M'eudail." He groans, thick accent twirling around the foreign word at your bad little acting. "Need to think abou' yarself, ya know? Can't let ya be cold oll winter."
"I'm not cold. T's just the bathroom, well, the heater doesn't work. And the sink in the kitchen is having some trouble." You try to dismiss, eyes finding the view of the hill again, only trying to ignore his grumpy frown.
"We'll dae yar house first." He finishes on, and though you sigh, you don't refute his decision. You know better than to lie to him, not that you want to anyway.
You pass the early evening finishing the last touch in the stables – the little chamber there, where you sand the wood carefully. Actually, Johnny uses the sander while you do the finishing touches behind his passage, running your palm over the smooth texture with appreciation. There are five boxes done, and while Johnny rearranges all of your tools, you looks at it, hands on your hips.
This would have taken you ages to do by yourself because, even with all of your good intentions, you do not know what you’re doing most of the time. But there is no hesitation in Johnny’s actions, and with a few sentences, he always reassures you, giving you the options before allowing you to make your decision.
It's easy how he walks you into your home as if you've done it before. Your hand is warm, settled into his elbow as he slows his steps for you. The air is cold tonight, and you figure winter is not far anymore with how soon the sun sets over the green land. Johnny’s hand moves and curls around your fingers, helping you take the first step toward the porch.
Johnny walks you inside, hovering behind you and finds the collar of your coat quickly, without a word. You sigh when your feet finally go into the comfort of your slippers, ankles slightly hurting from today's work. You don't question it when, after wiping your hands, you give him the little towel you always keep there to dry his face and hair.
"I was thinking of making bruschetta for dinner." You reveal to him, turning to watch him pass the towel over his hair, seeing how the usual brown of his hair had turned black from the evening rain. "With cream cheese, some tomatoes."
"Ya intivin' me to dinner, m'eudail?" It's a tease you know, just from the little tingle in his lips when he stares down at you.
"If you want to." You say, watching him putting his khaki raincoat on the wall. You pinch your lips as he wipes his hands on the towel, his blue eyes electrifying in the dim light, making you slightly nervous. It should be a bad idea, literally, inviting a stranger - an acquaintance? - into your home.
But you don't think Johnny could ever hurt you. Not with how delicately he handles you or tries to anyway. He's not used to this life, to people who aren't shaped by the sound of gunshots, and trained to assess everything around them as a potential threat. Not used to the softness of your wrist, of the light in your eyes. His fingers may circle your forearm too strongly, and he may stomp around silently to avoid alerting anyone of his presence and so scare you, but he always tries. He's always careful.
Your weight shifts from foot to foot as you keep looking at each other before you offer him a smile, softly moving to the side in silent invitation.
"Got nothing to thank you for your help. But I can cook."
"Shouldn't stand too much on yar feet, hen. Yer legs are goin' to hurt ya."
'I'll be fine, can handle a bit of pain, Johnny." You answer back after a moment of silence, seeing him squint at your legs as if they're a mathematical problem he can't resolve - or an untamed being who doesn't listen. Which, really, could be.
"I ken. But you shouldn't have ta." He grumbled then, passing the threshold of your house, coming to you easily. And it warms you how serious he is with it, with your health and your comfort. "C'mon then."
You don't say anything, simply accepting his help when he places a hand on your back. Johnny doesn't talk much, you find; he simply stays by your side as you open the old fridge. Your left hand skims over your belly as he looks into a high cabinet, finding there the plates you'll need for dinner.
Every ingredient is placed on the wooden island you also need to repair, and you hear him grumble as he opens and closes one cabinet, making it hiss. You hide your smile as he moves around, quickly finding every little thing that will need reparation or to be changed. It's actually rather amusing, seeing such a grown man mumbling to himself as he cusses and huffs and puffs.
"You know, I didn't invite you here, so you'll swear at my kitchen."
"Bonnie," He says, almost a warning as he gazes back at you, brows curling into a frown when you arch your eyebrows.
"That's a problem for tomorrow, okay? Come sit with me." You invite him, patting the high chair at your right, voice sweet and soft, like honey. It easily softens the exasperated glint in his eyes, and he sighs deeply before closing back the drawer.
You have to bite back a laugh when it squeaks. Johnny stared at it for a while longer, and you burrowed your face into your shoulder with a giggle. With a shake of his head, he finds you, large form settling by your side comically in that badly painted white high chair. It's much too small for him.
"How long?"
"How long what?"
"How long has it been for sale?" He asks again for your attention, watching you cut the tomatoes into four pieces. Your nail polish, a soft red, is slightly breaking on the edge after today's chore, and he pinches your thumb, moving it up and down under the light. You have a blister. That annoys him; you should never be in pain.
"Twelve years, I think. The previous owner was in a care facility for a while. It's in relatively good shape. The beams are still healthy."
"Walls dinnea make a home, hen." He grumbles, large fingers pushing into the side of your hand before he tugs the tomatoes in front of him, swiftly taking the knife out of your hand. "Someone came ta look at it?"
"No, not yet. Needs a bit of cleaning first, and then I need a plan." Your elbow presses into the counter, and your chin nestles into your palm as you watch him. The knife barely makes a sound as it slides into the plate.
You don't say another word for a while, simply enjoying the quiet as you watch Johnny skillfully use the knife on your tomatoes. Even with only one hand, he's doing it better than you are. Then, you turn and quietly slide the book in front of the two of you, abandoning your stubborn act. You don't say anything when you hear his snort and pointly ignore his look, and tap at the page so he can anticipate the rest of the recipe as you go and start taking care of the bruschetta.
"Can I ask you something?"
"You already doin' it." He says back without hesitation, and you push your shoulder into him at his teasing before seeing him nod. "Why do you help me?"
"Dinnea have better to dae."
It's a simple answer. While you believe it might be true, you don't think it's the truth either. Johnny doesn't seem the type of man who busies himself with other people's business, whether they are pregnant or not. From his manners, you don't deny he's polite and would never let you put your groceries away by yourself, but not to the point of restoring some stranger's old stable.
Your fingers reshape the bread, easily going through the motion as you let your eyes on him. Your nose twitches as you ponder it. You are eternally grateful for his help, really. But you know for certain there is something else. Another reason that makes him do it all, from cutting your tomatoes in that tiny high chair, to sanding the door of your dream stable.
For a moment, your eyes linger in front of you, hazy as you wonder. Does he look for a sense of stability? For a purpose? Or simply to occupy his days? Well, it's not any of your business, but you can't help yourself, trying to understand him, to discover every piece that built him. You know you shouldn't, and it's only a hypothesis anyway.
"Well, alright. You make good company so it's fine."
His fingers twitch around his knife, and the blade flutters over the chives at your words. He can feel the tip of his ears heating up at your compliment, and for a moment, he doesn't dare to look at you. Worried about what he will find.
When he does, though, under that little layer of sarcasm he brings out of you, Johnny finds honesty. And a smile - genuine, and pure. He's rooted to the damn chair, watching you, admiring you there, with a little apron tied around your neck.
You're the epitome of domestic life. Of civilian life. With that little thing tied around your waist, the brushing of your hair or whatever it is called, that make them so beautiful and shiny. No worries in your eyes when you turn your back on him, and soft fingers that linger on his arms.
If it's what awaits him, it can't be so bad.
"Even when I yell at yar kitchen?" He dissipates it, the bitter acceptance, pushing away the tension in his chest with what he does best - humour and a crooked grin.
"Yea', even when you yell at my kitchen." You chuckle, the edges of your eyes pinching slightly, and you do it again - that little scrunch of your nose. He thinks you're cute. Definitely too trusting, but rather cute.
The banter is easy with Johnny, keeping you skipping your steps, with a little glow in your face as he grills the bread in an oiled pan. Italians might despise you for this, but it's good, and you thought of bruschetta since you woke up this morning. You knew being pregnant could give you cravings, but not to this point.
With a ginger beer in hand, you walk behind Johnny, who's holding your plate, into the living room, where a very old TV is waiting for you and the most comfortable couch you've ever seen. Leo is there too, lying on the carpet by the fireplace, and you give him a few scratches before settling on the couch. Johnny is already there, lap spreading so hard that your knee bumps into his when you sit.
"So, ya said the bathroom and the kitchen. What else?"
"Mhm, the stairs creak. And I'd like to take out most of the paint on the furniture and varnish the wood. The heaters need a look, and the fireplaces, too." You think about it, lips pinching on the side as you unfold one thick cover before laying it on your legs, sensing Johnny's attention on you.
The television is running a show, and you can't understand half the words in it. The English teachers you had in school definitely didn't concern themselves with the slang or the different accents. But Scottish, surely, could easily make you feel like a fool. But you don't pay much attention, not when you hear Johnny asking you about what you want to do first.
"Well, the heaters and fireplace. I'll find someone tomorrow to come and look at it. Then, I'll have to buy some new furniture. Or a way to restore what's here."
A tingle slides on the bottom of your feet, and you mindlessly pass a piece of your ham to Leo as you push a warm tomato between your lips.
"Need a hand?"
"Mhm. Don't even know where to go."
He nods absentmindedly, curling a finger behind your ear to slick back some dishevelled strands of hair. Your eyes shift to his face, finding him there, relaxing, and his plate already empty. Johnny must have been starving, a big man like him doing work all day. Your lashes flutter when his fingers linger, his thumb passing over the arch of your jaw.
"Can't hav' strange men here when ya're alone, m'eudail."
His voice is similar to the echoes of thunder that swirl around in the mountains. It's a familiar sound in the back of your mind, one that makes this situation comfortable even if you don't know him. Because it's true, you don't know Johnny, hell, you don't even know his last name, but here you are, both of you. On your couch, sitting in front of the telly while he thumbs at your cheek, so close.
You smile, cheeks round as he presses into it with a grin, watching how your eyes light up momentarily.
"Guess I'll have to ask you to leave then."
He snorts, square shoulders shaking before he squeezes your chin in his hold. You swat at his wrist with amusement before he gathers your plate. The couch trembles as he rises up, making your body shift deeper into its comforts, and you snuggle beneath your blanket. Johnny pivots to look at you, and his shadow looms over you when he stands between you and the fireplace.
You're reminded of him, the first time you met. How he took your breath away. With the light coming from behind him, he looks bigger - stronger. Your breath halts for a second before he tilts himself closer, breaking the spell.
"Want sweets, hen?"
"Mhm?" You sigh, momentarily taken aback.
"Desserts." He repeats for you, not even missing a beat. Never making you feel stupid either, the same expression on his face, waiting for your answer with patience.
"Oh." You sigh, chin hitching up to gaze at his face before you offer him a little nod. "Yea', that would be nice. Do you want some tea?"
"I'll dae it, hen. Stay warm, aye?"
Johnny doesn't let you do much the rest of the evening. He said that since you cooked, he can do the rest. Dishes, the tea, and taking care of the fire by adding a few more wood. Don't have ta move bonnie, should stay comfortable. It makes you smile, and while in any other case, you would have put up a fight, he is your guest after all, you can see that Johnny needs it. To move around the place, never sitting down for long.
It almost gives you whiplash, but when you see him trudge around, looking out the windows, you force yourself to settle back. Your fingers curl around the mug, and you take a little mouthful as he closes the curtains, securing every entry point.
"What time tomorrow?"
"What d'ya mean?"
"I'll have to go to the city. Varnish and everythin'. What's the best time for you?"
Your eyes never leave him as he slides another curtain close, his silhouette flirting with the shadows of your house. You know he is looking at you, you can feel it - the weight of his eyes on your curled form. You wonder if he is surprised, or simply accepting what it implies, another day working around your place. If he's content with you, rely on him of your own accord. Making the first step his way.
"Nine-fifteen will do."
"Ok. I'll probably be on the phone with the contractors by then, so you come in, alright?"
"Yar door bett'r be locked, hen."
"I only keep it locked when I sleep." You answer, at peace with your own answer, not reacting when you hear him grumble. You can see him shake his head again, unhappy with your dangerous habits.
"I'll knock." He warns you, and you sigh, unamused, when he takes the teacup out of your hands.
You twist in your spot, throwing an arm on the back of the couch and watch him step into your kitchen. Your chin settles on your forearm as he cleans the place, putting everything back in its spot with perfection. You don't want to ask him about it; you don't want to bring back bad memories. But, you wonder what he was in the army if he had a title of his own, and why did he left and came here of all places.
You stay silent, knowing it isn't your place. If he wants to talk about it or share it with you, he will do it at his own pace.
You make the last step alone on the porch, and you find your hand cold from his absence when he slithers away in the darkness. With a gentle rub at your tummy, your door half open, you turn his way one last time, your eyes finding him with purpose.
"I'll see you tomorrow, yea'?" You ask, hoping, wondering if he would want to. Giving him an out, if he needs it, even if you already asked before.
His hands twitch at his side, the desire to hold you hitching under his skin. You look so peaceful. Your skin is soft and plump, with that little dew under your chin that he loves, and your knitted cardigan pushed closed around your torso. He wants to cradle you, keep you warm and safe in his arms, where he knows no one could ever pain you.
He gives you a nod, not finding the right words to answer you, and it makes the curls around his head sway prettily. You giggle before giving him a sweet wave and entering your home. Johnny takes a breath, keeping watch for a little while, seeing you moving around. Didn't even look back. You'll have to change your curtains soon because he can see you, back arched as you clean up the living room. Will have to add a few bolts to your door, too.
There is no hesitation when Johnny crosses the distance between your homes. His steps are silent, and his strong frame disappears in the shadows in swift motions. The animals, now used to his presence, barely react to him when he passes. He will search for a guard dog for you next week.
His boots press into the wooden planks of your porch. He sees the light in what he guesses is your bedroom. He stands there for a moment, watching your silhouette shift on the other side. Clothes are being taken off, and the sight of you leaves him rocking on his feet, looking more delicious than any delicacy he's ever had. And there is nothing he can truly see, only the curves of your hips and the sway of your flesh as you walk around. His shoulders tremble before his eyes watch the shutter start, and then the light is turned off.
It's with ease that he enters your sweet little home. Barely a few tries and your lock is off before he steps inside. He will reinforce your security, especially now that he knows you barely even lock your house. There is no sound here as he pushes the back door closed. The dog must be with you, good, he thinks. The smell of the fire fills his nose as he walks inside, eyes shifting about, catching sight of your open kitchen needing a good remodel, and then the living room. He settles into the seat there, a recliner, by your couch.
It is only day six of knowing you. And already, he feels himself needing to be here - to guard you. You give him purpose, a sense of self, during the day. Building you a home, the farm that you so dreamily wish to have. But in the darkness of the night, he feels restless, so far away from you. His bed was cold and empty, and he couldn't restrain the urge anymore, not after your adorable little goodbye.
See you tomorrow? Of course you will, hen. Where else will he be, if not by your side? Where else could he crawl to, if not you?
He settles rather quickly, his knife secured by his hip, one gun beneath his armpit, and the other hidden beneath his jeans. And when he closes his eyes, he can imagine you, see you there, resting gently in your bed.
Do you have a bed large enough for two, he wonders. Do you sleep there, your hands between your legs, or are they resting by your pillow? Do you wear one of these long little night dresses to bed? Or these see-through babydolls? Oh, you might rest bare. He has to take a deep breath through gritted teeth at the vision. He hopes the little one doesn't wake you too much during the night. His hands shift and linger down the armchairs as he lets his head fall backwards, pressing into the cushion.
His nostrils flare as he sees it, you, buried into your comforter, your mouth open as you breathe out peacefully. And your belly, oh, he wonders if the little one there would feel it if he cradles you for the night. If it could hear him when he tells a little bedtime story. He sighs. Only day six or seven now. It's past midnight. But now, all he can think of is you, your soft curves, and the softness of your hands that you are sacrificing to build a home for yourself and your baby.
He can't understand how anyone could leave you. You said something about wanting no one to have around, but you never quite pushed him away, either. His eyes shift to the ceiling, and his fingers tap against the armchair as he ponders the numerous possibilities. Abusive parents could create that fight-or-flight reaction you had when you first saw him, though you were leaning more toward flight, almost a foot back on the ground. Grooming could, too, with these controlling behaviours and dismissive tone. A partner who took you for granted, who forced you into a role you didn't want and had a hard time fighting away from. Hell, it could be a guy who wanted you to abort.
None of them are good. None of them could ever happen again under his watch.
His shoulder creaks when he jumps into his feet, unable to stay so far. He knows it's unreasonable, even a crime, really. Breaking and entering, that's what they call it. But it doesn't matter. Not when it's you. His feet briskly climb the stairs, avoiding any sound, his hand running across the wall until he reaches the end. His eyes move in the dark, and he can guess three doors. You've talked about a bathroom, and then your bedroom is on his right. Must be a nursery on his left.
The door is pushed only a few inches wide. A dim light made him press his back against the wall, palm grazing the back of your door as he looked inside meticulously. From where he stands, he has the end of your bed in his peripheral vision. There are no movements, apart from the crossing sound of your dog approaching. The old one doesn't bark when he pushes himself into the corridor; he simply comes to sniff at his shoes before turning back around.
Maybe he'll look for that guard dog tomorrow.
The sole of his shoes hovers over the ground of your bedroom as he takes a look inside. The fireplace is facing your bed. It's instinct, how he assesses your environment, the dresser there, covered in jewellery and a little palette of makeup. An antique chest, a wardrobe, and a few bags lying around.
As if you haven't taken proper time to settle in. He doesn't like that.
Then, his eyes find you. And it's better than his mind could have created. He can only see your face and that little bonnet thing around your hair to keep it soft. Your mouth is open, slightly pushed forward with each exhale you make, and there you are. Resting. One hand around the edge of the blanket over your comforter. Can see the little bump your feet make beneath it, and his heart shatters, seeing you curled in there, searching for warmth.
God, you're a bonnie lass. Temptation resting there, just out of reach, for now.
His fingers push the door closed again without a look, and he approaches one slow step. Johnny has time. You don't react to him. Don't react to Leo jumping by your side. His gloved palm finds your feet, lithering there, up and down before squeezing your little toes. Do you have nail polish there too?
His chin hitches up as his hand disappears beneath your sheets, pushing inside, in your reprieve until he finds them. His eyes blink, hooded, as he shelters one in his hand. Thumb caresses the sole of your foot, up and down, up and down again, and a little grunt leaves his throat when he feels himself twitching. His index stroke over your toes, passing through the crevices and the gristles, before circling your nail. Oh yeah, nail polish.
With one smooth gesture, he pushed your blanket back in place. Palming at your ankle, he times his breathing with yours, pupils dilating as he focuses on your mouth. He could devour you, really. Right now, he could push your cute underwear aside and have a taste - or give you his tip for now. Just a little. Maybe you wouldn't even wake up. The idea makes him chub up against his zipper. Johnny didn't know he'd like that.
His hand trails up your leg, circling your fragile knee before raking along your thigh. Leo wags his tail, his head lying by your shoulder, when Johnny sits down by your waist. Nails digging into the layers of your sheets, he feels it, the fat of your hip and kneads at it, respiration quickening. His boots press harder into your carpet as he leans over, his attention passing over your closed eyes, the arch of your nose and god, that dewy chin.
His lips find it, the little roll covering your jaw. First, a feathery kiss, before his beard scratches your skin. You whine. He's immobile until he feels you melting back into sleep. That's exactly why he needs to guard you, who don't even react when his hand cradles your nape, pushing into your flesh when his mouth opens over your temple. Your sweat is a little bitter, and he can taste your night cream, too. One last kiss, and he has to physically push himself away, hands clawing at his thighs when he raises back.
You'll need your beauty sleep for tomorrow.
His body circles your bed, and he secures your bay window before approaching the chair there, where today's garments rest, folded neatly. Good girl. Your grey little panties are hurriedly hidden in his pocket before your door opens and closes.

"I'd rather that than-" Theo’s about to finish his sentence when his phone suddenly dings, snapping you both out of the moment. Your eyes widen in excitement as you sit up, and Theo’s face lights up. "I got a text!" he shouts, his voice carrying across the villa. Instantly, everyone around the pool and loungers lets out thrilled squeals, rushing over to where you and Theo are perched on the sunbed, eager to hear the news.
Theo holds up his phone dramatically, soaking up the attention, then reads aloud, “All islanders to the garden deck!” He pauses for effect, raising his brows as everyone hangs on his words. “Hashtag fun and games, hashtag don’t be scared.” His teasing smirk only fuels the buzz, and the whole group erupts with another round of happy cheers and squeals, all of you giddy at the idea of a game.
As the blindfold slips over your eyes, Theo’s fingers graze your cheeks, adjusting it gently. “Can you see anything?” he asks, a chuckle lacing his words. You can’t help but giggle, feeling the warmth of his hands as you hold onto his wrists for balance. “Nope,” you reply, playfully tugging his hands away.
Before you can say more, another familiar ding sounds from across the deck, and Leo clears his throat to read the message. “All boys to the balcony immediately,” he announces. A wave of gasps echoes among the girls, and you instinctively tense, butterflies fluttering as everyone tries to guess what this means. A bombshell, surely—it has to be.
“Girls, stay where you are with your blindfolds on,” Leo continues. Your jaw drops, excitement sparking as the tension in the air thickens. You can feel the guys shuffling around, some making teasing comments, others exchanging quick words. Suddenly, Theo’s hand is on your cheek, steadying you, and then his lips press against yours in a familiar, gentle kiss that makes your stomach flip.
“You better not enjoy it,” he murmurs against your lips, his tone carrying a playful but unmistakably serious edge. You let out a soft laugh, unable to help yourself. His hands linger for a second longer, and then you hear his footsteps retreat as he joins the other boys, leaving you and the other girls alone, blindfolded, and eagerly wondering who is about to walk in.
It takes only a few minutes before you hear the villa doors swing open, followed by the whispers of the boys on the balcony. Anticipation curls in your stomach as you wait, feeling every second drag out longer at the end of the line. The girls beside you giggle nervously, and you try to calm the growing thrill in your chest.
Suddenly, you hear the boys erupt in a chorus of surprised shouts, and confusion spikes—what could be causing such a reaction? Then, out of nowhere, a firm hand grips your chin, tilting your head up. Before you can even process what’s happening, warm, insistent lips press to yours in a kiss that is as bold as it is demanding.
The kiss catches you off guard, yet you find yourself instinctively leaning into it, feeling the urgency and heat of his touch. His hand tilts your jaw, deepening the kiss, while your fingers cling to his shirt for stability. The kiss is almost dizzying, and there’s something achingly familiar about it—the way his mouth moves over yours with a teasing, all-consuming intensity.
As he finally pulls away, his breath is warm against your ear. “Missed me?” The low, unmistakable voice sends a rush through you. Rafe. You let out a small, surprised laugh, giving him a playful shove, though your lips can’t help but lift in a smile. Rafe here? In the villa? As the new bombshell?
“What are you smiling for?” Theo’s voice cuts through the air from the balcony, irritation evident in his tone. Biting back a laugh, you hear Rafe’s deep, confident chuckle as he reaches up, pulling off your blindfold. Blinking in the bright sunlight, you see Rafe before you, grinning with a finger pressed to his lips, urging you to keep quiet.
Your eyes widen, the thrill of the situation hitting all at once. Without another word, he takes your hand, guiding you toward the steps with an air of cool confidence. Your gaze darts to the balcony, catching sight of Theo’s expressionless face, though the way his hands clenched at his sides told you he wasn't happy.
But before you can react, Rafe’s already leading you down the stairs. When you finally spot the villa door, it all clicks—you’re about to go on a date with him. Heart racing, you follow him outside, your head still spinning from the kiss and the whirlwind of it all.
~
“Your hair’s different,” you blurt out as soon as you both sit down, the words slipping out before you can filter them. Rafe chuckles, rubbing a hand over his freshly buzzed hair. “Yeah, wanted a change, y’know?” His gaze holds steady on you, and you feel the intensity as he takes in your features, studying you like he’s trying to remember every detail.
It’s surreal, sitting across from him after all this time. It’s been two years since you walked away from him, two years since you left the Outer Banks and everything that came with it. And now here he is, in Spain, on Love Island of all places. You try to shake off the memories and give him a warm, genuine smile. “So… how are you?” you ask, curious but careful.
Back then, Rafe had been drowning in a world of drugs and alcohol, and now you can’t help but wonder if the man in front of you has changed. His response is immediate, almost as if he’d anticipated the question. “I’m clean. If that was what you were wondering.” His tone is steady, but there’s an underlying edge, as if he’s been waiting for this chance to prove himself.
The swiftness of his answer catches you off guard, and he seems to notice, softening as he continues, “Since you left, I got my shit together. Took over Dad’s business. I’ve changed, Y/n.” His voice carries a sincerity that you can’t ignore, and for a moment, you see a different side of him—a version of Rafe who’s fought his own battles and come out the other side.
You reach across the table, your fingers brushing his as you give his hand a light, reassuring squeeze. “I’m glad to hear that, Rafe. Really.” His eyes drop to your hand, a flicker of something unspoken passing through his expression before you release him, pulling back. But he clears his throat, shifting slightly. “You’re with Theo?” he asks, his tone laced with curiosity as he leans back, watching your reaction.
You nod, meeting his gaze head-on. “Yeah? Didn’t seem like your type,” he says with a hint of his familiar teasing edge, though his eyes betray a flash of something deeper. You smirk, taking a sip of your drink. “Maybe my type changed when I moved to the city,” you tease, raising an eyebrow. His mouth quirks up, but before he can counter, you find yourself asking.
“Why me? You could’ve chosen any other girl to pull for a date—” “Because it’s you,” he cuts in, his voice soft but firm, like he’s been holding back those words for ages. The air shifts, and your lips part in surprise, your mind racing to come up with a response. But before you can, he leans in, his gaze piercing. “And because I’ve missed you.”
The sincerity in his voice leaves you momentarily speechless. Two years, miles apart, and yet here he is, still managing to unearth that old feeling buried deep inside. You don’t know what to say, the memories flooding back, bringing a rush of emotions you thought you’d left behind. “Give us another chance,” Rafe says, his voice filled with conviction as his eyes search yours.
You press your lips together, glancing down as a flood of emotions tugs you in different directions. A part of you wants to laugh at the absurdity of it all. After everything, after two years apart, he’s here in Spain asking for another chance. He looks different, sounds different, and maybe he’s changed, but the past still lingers, and you’re not sure you can trust him, or even yourself, to dive back in.
“Rafe…” you begin slowly, lifting your gaze to meet his. “I’m not going to lie—I’m skeptical. Things were messy between us before, and I don’t know if that’s something we can just… fix.” He nods, an understanding smile playing at his lips. “I get it. I don’t expect you to just jump back into this. I know I messed up. But I’ve worked on myself, and I want a chance to show you who I am now.”
You sigh, your fingers toying with the stem of your glass as you process his words. “I do see a difference in you… and I don’t want to just shut you out. Maybe we can give it another try, see if there’s still something here.” You bite your lip, feeling the flicker of hope you’re trying to keep under control.
“But I need you to know I’m not doing this lightly. If I’m going to open that door again, I need to be sure you’re all in.” Rafe’s expression softens, and he reaches across the table, his hand gently covering yours. “I’m all in. Whatever it takes. I just want a chance to make it right.” A small smile forms on your lips, and against all the doubts, you nod. “Okay, let’s try.”

bed head — 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐜
˖♡ - ̗̀ ⇢ saw this tt about how these two toddlers shared their dad's notoriously rough bed head and this post when i opened tumblr last night and had to write smth for it! sorry, for the baby content 💀 i'll get back to writing y'alls requests now xxx
Tumblr media
the careful messiness of brunette curls has been charles’s signature hairstyle for ages. it suits him, and when paired with his dimples and green eyes—it’s no wonder why every italian and monegasque prays for his success on sundays. well, maybe bleeding rosso corsa and winning two championships driving the famed red car are the proper reasons.
if only they knew that the artful styling of his curls is nowhere to be found after he sleeps. when he wakes, his hair is in absolute disarray—the deep brown ringlets are clumped together as they stick straight upwards and yet they manage to point in every direction possible.
when you first moved in with charles, you convinced him to buy a satin pillowcase to combat the bed head. it didn’t help, and neither did the bonnets you tried to have him wear. no matter if the ties were knotted, buttoned, or even velcro-strapped tightly, the bonnet would end up by the foot of the bed and his hair was in it’s usual disordered state by the early morning hours.
so, your morning routine begins with taming charles’s severe case of bed head. he awakens slowly as your fingertips gently untangle the deep brown ringlets, moaning lowly and nudging his head into your hand like a large cat when your nails glide along his scalp. you carefully guide each curl back into their assigned positions, tutting disapprovingly at the one strand that never seems to stay in it’s place.
charles’s chest shakes with a chuckle at your slight irritation and he shifts to meet your eyes, tenderly directing your hands away from his now orderly hair to his lips, pressing kisses to your fingertips before pulling you forward to cuddle into his chest.
you didn’t expect to have to deal with more than one head of messy hair. unfortunately, it seems like your daughter inherited her father’s bed head.
your mornings now consist of charles climbing out of bed at the first crackle of noise through the baby monitor, rushing to scoop the 9-month-old from her nursery and have her join the two of you in bed. he crosses the doorway with your daughter cradled to his bare chest and leo yipping at his feet—she stares up at at him, a perfect reflection of the sea green pools of his eyes, the absence of a bonnet, and the chaotic sprawl of his brunette curls. you’ve never been bothered with the fact that she’s an exact replica of her father, as some tried to tease that your genes didn’t do more than deepen her complexion. however, you always joke back that it means that she’s been blessed to be as beautiful as charles is.
she coos and babbles up at her father and he dutifully responds in french as if he understands her baby gibberish. he sits in bed with her on his lap and she beams, her little arms and grabby hands reaching towards you. you smile back widely, stealing her from his lap and greeting your babygirl with a flurry of kisses pressed all over her cute little face. her giggles ring through the air as you pull backwards to watch her laugh and, there’s another trait she shares with her father; deep dimples decorate her chubby cheeks and you can’t help but press your thumb into them with adoration.
charles picks up his first baby, plopping the mini dachshund in bed, and leo bounds forward to press his own kisses to your daughter’s socked feet.
addressing charles’s wild bed head will have to wait as you settle her back in his lap. you rest your head on his shoulder, apologizing for interrupting the clearly important conversation the two were having. you start fixing the jumbled ringlets on her scalp with the softest touch of your digits and she nuzzles up into your hand the same way her father does. he continues from were he left off, asking your daughter if she thinks a one-stop strategy is too ambitious for the next race and she babbles back to him in reply.
charles nods in agreement, promising her that regardless of a one-stop or two-stop, he’ll bring back his third championship trophy for her.

Paddock Nap Queen
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The saying "The apple doesn't fall from the tree" has never been so clear every time Lando had his daughter at the paddock.
Tumblr media
If there was one thing everyone in the Formula 1 paddock knew about Y/n Norris, it was this:
She had two modes:
A full-on, sugar-fueled tornado of giggles and squeaky Crocs.
Fast asleep, dead to the world, in the strangest places imaginable.
It was an uncanny talent passed down from her father — Lando Norris — who had once been caught napping in a tire blanket during a rain delay. The drivers never let him live it down. Now, his daughter had taken the title of "Grid’s Best Sleeper" and turned it into an Olympic sport.
It was a typical race weekend — sunny skies, fans screaming, engines revving — and Y/n was zipping around the McLaren hospitality like she owned the place.
“Y/n, slow down before you crash into someone’s knee!” Lando called, only mildly concerned as he watched her zoom past with a cookie in one hand and a mini helmet in the other.
“Can’t catch me, Daddy!” she yelled gleefully before darting behind the coffee station.
Lando chuckled, sipping his drink. “She gets it from my mum. Swear.”
Oscar Piastri, walking by, raised an eyebrow. “Mate, she gets it from you. That kid has your energy — and your lack of an off-switch.”
“Please,” Lando snorted, “I have an off-switch.”
“Yeah. And it kicks in when you sit still for more than three minutes.”
They both laughed.
Twenty minutes later, chaos ensued.
Y/n had somehow made her way to the Mercedes motorhome, where George Russell found her sitting cross-legged in a chair, asking his engineer questions about the buttons on the steering wheel.
“She was very curious,” George said to Lando later, “and alarmingly knowledgeable about DRS.”
Then, when Carlos Sainz tried to lift her off the ground to return her to McLaren, she announced she was “on a scientific mission” and couldn’t leave.
Eventually, Charles Leclerc found her trying to get Leo, his dachshund, to talk to her like a human.
And then… silence.
Which, for Y/n, was unusual.
Too quiet.
“Where is she?” Lando asked suddenly, looking up from his tablet.
Oscar looked around. “She was literally here five seconds ago.”
A paddock-wide Y/n Hunt™ began — which, by now, was just part of race weekend tradition.
Max Verstappen checked under tables. Alex Albon opened a cupboard in the Williams hospitality. Jack Doohan searched behind one of the team trucks. Even Sebastian Vettel, visiting that weekend, chuckled and joined the search.
Until finally, Isack Hadjar found her.
In the Red Bull simulator room.
Asleep.
On the fake car.
Her small body was curled up neatly in the seat of the sim, one hand still loosely gripping the steering wheel like a tiny future world champion. Her mouth was slightly open, drool starting to threaten the upholstery. Her mini McLaren cap had slipped over her eyes.
Isack took a photo.
Then another.
Then texted Lando: Isack 🥖: “Found her. She’s napping in Max’s sim. 😂” Lando 🧡: “Classic. Be there in 2.”
When Lando arrived, he stepped into the room and paused.
His little girl — his firecracker, his chaos monster — completely knocked out in the Red Bull simulator like it was her crib.
He bent down, brushing a loose strand of hair from her forehead. “You wore yourself out, didn’t you, baby?”
She stirred, mumbled something about cookies and “being the fastest,” then went right back to sleep.
Oscar peeked over his shoulder and whispered, “She’s going to run the grid one day.”
Lando smiled, eyes soft. “She already does.”
They didn’t wake her — no one dared.
Instead, Max, despite his initial horror, let her nap undisturbed.
“For the record,” Max told Lando, “this is the only time I’ll allow a McLaren person in my sim.”
“Appreciate it, mate,” Lando chuckled. “She’ll repay you with crumbs and glitter stickers, probably.”
Later that day, the sim was dubbed “Y/n’s Throne by the grid group chat.
George posted a photo of her sleeping with the caption: “Queen of Chaos, Princess of Power Naps 👑”
Lando simply added a sticker on the photo: #LikeFatherLikeDaughter
And from that day on, a small plaque was taped inside the Red Bull simulator:
“In honour of Y/n Norris, age 5 — fastest giggle in the paddock, deepest sleeper in the world.”
Tumblr media
Done!!
I had to add some rookie appreciation in here somehow and still make it seem normal. Onto my last request.
That's Gang Gang out!!!!

this… is a french braid
Tumblr media
pairing: max verstappen x leclerc!reader warnings: none words: 850?
summary: who could have known that a braid can cause so much drama
It was the morning of the Dutch Grand Prix. You were standing in front of your daughter’s suitcase as you showed her the outfits you packed, none of which Emily agreed to wear.
“But look, chérie, this is such a pretty dress”, you said hoping that your daughter would finally agree to wear something.
“No. It is not. I want the one Uncle Charles gave me!”, your daughter pouted.
Sadly you knew that Em was stubborn. She wouldn’t just agree to wear something she didn’t want to.
“I don’t have Charles dress here… Please. Just wear one of these dresses… Or do you want to wear a jeans? With one of the shirts Papa got for you?”, you asked again, praying Emily would agree to the tiny Red Bull shirts Max got her just a few days ago.
The five-year-old scrunched her nose as she thought about it before agreeing.
“Ok. But I want pretty hair”, she said as she looked up at you.
“A braid?”, you asked as you pulled out the little jeans and Red Bull shirt for your daughter.
Emily nodded. “The pretty braid you always do. The not-just-on-the-bottom-braid.”
“You mean a French Braid?”, you asked while helping your daughter in the shirt.
“Yes. The magic braid that doesn’t look ugly after I run very fast.”
You just nodded as you grabbed the comb from the suitcase and tried to gently detangle your daughter’s curls. Methodically, you parted her hair and placed one strand over another while you listened to Emily rambling about how Uncle Charles promised her that Alex would bring Leo with her and Uncle Arthur had promised her to bring her chocolate to the track.
“And Uncle Charlie said he will give me an own car so I can drive around alone-“
“Charles said what?”, you asked shocked. “A car?”
“Yes, a car. A red one. Like his car”, Emily said dead serious.
You just stared at her through the mirror, deciding that you’ll have to talk to Charles about that… car for your five year old daughter.
You finished the braid by wrapping a small elastic around the hair.
“Such a pretty girl”, you said smiling which made Emily giggle.
“You are pretty, too, Maman”, Em said and you had to admit, not even a compliment of Max could compare to your daughter complimenting you.
“Thank you, chérie. Now, let’s go. Papa is probably already waiting for us.”
“YES! Can I show him my hair then?!”, Emily said excitedly.
“Of course you can. Can we leave now? Is your outfit good? Braids don’t hurt?”, you asked praying that everything would be good so they could finally leave.
Emily thought for a moment but nodded eventually, making you sigh in relief.
“Amazing. Then get your backpack, chérie.”
—-
Only half an hour later they arrived at the paddock and as soon as Em saw Max she started running towards him.
“PAPA! Look at my pretty hair. Maman did a braid! The magic braid!” The five-year-old turned her head so Max could look at her hair.
“Wow! Such a pretty braid, Em!”, Max exclaimed before he looked closer.
“Liefje, this”, he looked at you while pointing at the braid, “is a French Braid…”
You looked absolutely confused. “Yes? It is the one your daughter requested after not wanting to wear anything…? Is there a problem?”
Max now looked like he might start crying. Seriously, it was the exactly same face, as Emily’s before she throws a tantrum.
“We are at the Dutch Grand Prix! She… she cannot have a French Braid! We… we are Dutch! My baby girl is Dutch!”
You looked up in the sky, pinching the bridge of your nose, while telling yourself it wouldn’t be worth it to start yelling now. After the drama with Emily not wanting to wear anything, your nerves were already used up.
“Mon cœur. I really really love you. But a damn French Braid does not mean she isn’t Dutch anymore…”
Max pouted. “But-“
“No!”, you exclaimed before you could stop yourself. “Max. Next time I will gladly let you braid her hair but today, please just accept that she has a French Braid. Ok?”
Max still looked sad but nodded. “I guess your Maman chose France over the Netherlands”, he whispered in Emily’s ear.
“But Maman is from Monaco”, his daughter said confused.
“Close enough”, Max sighed. “Tomorrow, when it is race day, I will braid your hair, ok? And we will choose a pretty dress.”
—-
The next morning you had the time of your life. You were sitting on the balcony of your hotel room while Max was in the room, trying to get Emily to wear a dress.
“Baby girl, please! This is so pretty! I beg you! Please just wear it. I am sure Uncle Charles will love it!”
You have been hearing Max beg for around half an hour now, even considered going inside to help him. But honestly, you were enjoying the sun and your coffee way too much. Max will handle it…
a/n: this was an idea i had in the middle of the night… i hope it is good hahah

Random observations <3
hey friends! just felt like doing something light & funny for ya’ll today 🩷🧘‍♀️ happy spring vibes. been loving the energy, nevermind the eclipse & full moon that nearly ended me :>
Tumblr media Tumblr media
virgo moon women are so earthy and faerie like to me. they come across as put together and minimalistic but also appear light and whimsical in nature. they look great with florals, flowy dresses and lace. anything showing their shoulders, neck and hands they look beautiful in.
aries women have look out a lot for me ive noticed. they’re quick to offer their scarf if im cold, give me a hug if the wind is blowing, and if they truly appreciate your presence they’ll make it known they want you. they are also bold and dry with their words lmao.
pisces moon reminds me of a little rat curling up to eat cheese. love yall still
cancer venus has my heart wdym yall look after others and take care of them like they’re your own? you guys also need protection & love too. cancer venusians are so precious.
capricorn guys are mostly awkward and kinda stiff with it 😭 some of them are actually genuinely funny if they have aquarius. like a boyish energy.
1h synastry…is tiring. everything I do gets copied and triggered for that other person. anybody relate? i might do in depth post about this.
nothing like gemini bestie, and another sag bestie gossiping at 8am.
when aquarians are not empowered in their identity they copy others heavily…am i the only one that’s noticed this? i mean mannerisms, habits, speech, EVERYTHING.
i feel like aries women would love soca & Jamaican music
10h synastry in friendship can be difficult, that friend will try to assert themselves as morally better and higher than you. they’ll turn to self victimization to get you to feel sorry
august leo women are different from july leos. august leos have a quiet radiance (still powerful) and july leos get loud with it and i love both. i am a july leo. im her.
venus in aries women when disempowered have an odd way of infantilizing themselves especially around men to get their attention.
mars taurus women when jealous will watch your every move and act like they aren’t. they also feel a type of way if you can afford high end luxury.
lilith in gemini women also know how to appeal to others emotions easily & is manipulative if disempowered. if ur venus matches her Lilith theres a lot of jealousy and competition. the connection is often one sided.
sun in detriment/fall if those women are disempowered they’ll use anything you say to them & use it to their benefit. like gossiping, using anything you said about yourself for their benefit.
ive had an aquarius sun woman, lilith in gemini (my venus sign) and scorpio moon (in my 10h) copy my every move. every mannerism. its eerie yet im also entertained. she has a way of morally putting others down for her ego.
capricorn rising men can be short, i think its because saturn restricts and minimizes. but venus 1h saves them and adds a little sparkle sparkle to the gloom.
Aquarius paired with sag men…they have a dad persona i dont make the rules 😭 the short ones are even funnier with their lil watches and beards if they can grow one
lilith in gemini women when empowered are so funny and humorous and light up the room. love you, keep being you
virgo paired with leo women have such feline features, like thick brows, head full of hair (ends might be wispy) a lighter way of moving with grace. they’re ethereal but regal.
