The two remaining slave regimes in the hemisphere, Cuba and Brazil, attended carefully to the answer.

The idea that Southern slaves shaped the history of the American Civil War is now a foundational part of the national narrative. But that new story—about how slaves transformed a war for the Union into a war for emancipation—is really a story about the Union side in the war.' It traces out a particular historical dynamic of slaves' flight to Union lines, labor for the Union military, and eventual enlistment in the armed forces of the United States. Where I'm at, spending some time blessedly comfortable (dry, warm, the whole enchilada) inside my family's home, the six windows of the breakfast room are continuously pasted with water as if the house is being run through a car wash. The light I'm reading by flickers as often as lightning strikes (multiple times for every five seconds that pass). A permanent flood warning banner spans my phone's homescreen. Some toddler is playing drums (poorly, it's only honest to admit) on the sky's roof, transmitting an untranslatable facsimile of morse code via lightning and thunder. The faint roar of rain and electrical aftershocks rolls on and on.

It will be a miracle if the power doesn't go out. A lampost across the street has already lost its light. My brother was supposed to attend a birthday party at a movie theater today, but that plan seems to be in jeopardy.

Hi, it's me, the not-anymore-anon who asked about Amphoreus trailers. I, too, have been full of far too much glee about Blade's two second appearance lol, but what I wanted to ask about is actually poor Cloud-Piercer! Because you wrote about how it's so important to Dan Heng as something that enabled him to live his life in freedom (which, yeah), so when I saw Cloud-Piercer snapped in half I really cringed and instantly remembered that scene where Dan Heng thanks Blade.

So, my question, or I should say questions: Any particular opinions about it? Is the Dan Heng in your head low-key screaming about it lol? And what do you think that might mean in canon? Like, is Dan Heng going to use more cloudhymn for the rest of Amphoreus by necessity? Which I admittedly would like to see. The Home Decor event has proven that he's been getting more comfortable with coudhymn (which was my headcanon, so it was nice to have that confirmed). Also, Cloud-Piercer is pretty definitely getting fixed up sooner or later, I should think, but who'll do it? Is that how we're finally getting our renheng reunion, because Dan Heng aks Blade for help? And what will Blade think of that? (Side-note: Is it just me, or does the probably-red ribbon Dan Heng used to temporarily fix up Cloud-Piercer look like Blade's lol?)

I am REALLY hoping they do a little time rollback and fix Cloud Piercer right up again because if it is broken I might actually start crying. That's one of the few pieces of Yingxing left and he can't make anymore because he's fucked up his hands as Blade 😭😭😭 Time reversal does seem like the most likely outcome of them breaking it though. They'd have to redo his animations if they actually destroyed Cloud Piercer, and I can't see them doing that.

....also i'm not actually sure what red ribbon you're talking about? i have mostly been looping the stellaron hunters, to be perfectly honest (if that part of the video ends up with the most played thing, know that it's my fault lol). are you talking about this by any chance?

Cause cloud piercer has always had that wrap. (i have not looked up reference images of cloud piercer multiple times. why would i do that ahahaha....ha... i also hold zero head canons about yingxing putting that red wrap there to remind df of him. seeing as most of the other instances of red on df's design are also yingxing related. earings... bracer's rope...)

I would imagine that Dan Heng is not happy about this, honestly. Cloud Piercer is one of the few things he's had since he left jail, and he built his life in freedom around his ability to use it so effectively. Like, we think of him like an archivist (or at least I do? does the rest of the fandom also do that?), but he's technically a guard. He was a guard on all the IPC ships he boarded too. That's basically his career path. Even if he has no memory of Yingxing tied to the spear, it's definitely something precious to him. We know that he spends a lot of time keeping it polished up and such, so having it broken like this... I'm sure he's internally screaming, yes. Even if he's too emotionally dead outside to externally scream lol (i should stop bullying him, he's grieving his emotional support weapon rip)

To be honest, I think they snapped Cloud Piercer for one very simple reason: they needed to establish that not!kevin is OP. So they fucked up both the boys. That's it. And that's also why I think they'll give us a simple (lol) solution like turning back time to fix it. I don't expect it to be broken for very long in the course of the story.

Dan Heng cleaning with cloudhymn honestly reduced me to tears I was laughing so hard. He tries SO hard to be the one with the brain cell, and then he goes and does shit like that. God, i love him. But no, I don't really think we'll be seeing much Cloudhymn from him. Not unless we can get him back to his full Vidyadhara state. He does seem to be working to improve his ability to use it while playing at human, but I doubt he'll be relying on it in combat. You don't want to use a weapon you can't trust. His control and power seems to be greatly enhanced when he has his horns out, but otherwise, nah. Cloud Piercer or bust.

God, I want Blade in the story again so so so so much, but I don't think we'll see him on Amphoreus. (They're likely saving the Renheng reunion for a future Xianzhou update as that's where their story is centered.) We MIGHT see the Stellaron Hunters outside of Amphoreus helping the others, but I highly doubt we'll see them on the planet itself. Largely, because I'm not sure they could even get to Amphoreus without the help of a memokeeper. Maybe Elio could get around that with his future knowledge, but I doubt.

I do hold some hope that we might get some flashbacks from the Trailblazer remembering their time with the Stellaron Hunters though. It's probably not gonna happen, but they were in the trailer in conjunction with the Trailblazer, and I live in hope, okay? I desperately want to know what Kafka and the Trailblazer were to each other. Is she actually the deadbeat mom? I must know.

Hey gang! Today's paper is a fairly straightforward one (finally).

It looks at the organization of neurons in the auditory cortex (AC) of the Mexican free-tailed bat. This is the "highest" auditory processing region-- meaning sounds have been very thoroughly processed by earlier brain regions-- and it (theoretically) does the most complicated work as a result.

They found that, similar to a lot of animals, these bats had tonotopic organization in their AC. This means that there is a gradient of neural responses across the entire region, with neurons towards the back of the head responding most to low-pitched sounds and neurons towards the nose responding most to high-pitched sounds. They also found that a very important kind of cell-- echo-delay cells-- are interspersed throughout the whole region. These neurons respond specifically to certain delay times between a vocalization and an echo, obviously really important for gauging distance during echolocation. So one neuron might "prefer" echoes that happen 4 milliseconds after the initial sound, while another might "prefer" a 10 millisecond delay.

ok so daisuga and they live together and Suga absolutely hates mosquitoes. whenever he sees one he goes apeshit trying to kill it. at first it starts with randomly trying to grab the mozzie out of the air, then he's clapping loudly trying to squish it, and when that doesn't work he goes feral like a cat trying to get a laser. he's jumping over things and diving under things, knocking things over. meanwhile Daichi is just sitting drinking his tea or w/e, and not phased. when Suga finally gets the mozzie Daichi applauds him, like 'well done.' Suga dubs mozzies his personal nemesis, Daichi is 'meh' about them

Suga goes feral when there're a mosquito in the room. Daichi had put nettings in the windows in their room, since summer is hot and they need air circulation. He doesn't like them, but he isn't as bothered by them. If he gets a sting, he treats it with a warm cloth and tends to forget about it. He is more worried about Suga, who tends to scratch them, until he gets an open wound.

Sugawara has tried everything. He goes trough insects-prays when they are on a hike and needs to live with that sticky residue on his body the whole day. He buys an mosquito-coil to hopefully keep them away and buys everything he deems somewhat useful in his war against them. Daichi wants him to not use money on useless shit, but this is a war in his mind. That is why, once he sees an mosquito in the room when he literally uses the coil as incense, he gets so upset.

He hears them buzz and then he can't rest until the thing is dead or out of his house. Daichi is no help, but at least he gets a little bit of praise from him when he kills the intruder. Sugawara wants to get a cat or chameleon that can haunt them, but Daichi says that is stupid reason to get pets.

He doesn't smell like chemicals in the summer for them still to come towards him!!!
