Febuwhump Day 6
Forced to Stay Awake
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Forsaken
Hela grits her teeth, pressing a hand against her burning stomach. She needs it to stop hurting. It shouldn’t be this – this – ugh. But it won’t stop. She’s going to pass out.
“I gotta get Hela somewhere before I can beat him up some more,” Tony protests. “Kinda hard to program a flight path through all this.”
“Can’t you use your missiles some?”
“Giving it a shot.”
One shot will do nothing against all that they’re up on. They need something – something more. “Eternal Flame,” Hela mutters, because that has the strength that they need.
Loki looks down at her, and their eyes lock for a fleeting instant. His are red. They – he’s in his Jotun form. Ice magic. That’s how he was using it. Loki doesn’t usually use ice. He looks… well, not bad, actually. How is she even thinking about this right now?
Her brother whirls around as the portal behind them ripples once again, a blast of magic rushing from his palms.
Baldr. It would be too good to be anyone else.
The world explodes, green and red, and Hela hits the ground again with a strangled gasp. They’re still fighting, and with the Reality Stone plus his normal, real powers, he’s too strong. There’s nothing they can do against him, and when she opens her eyes again, the figure fighting Loki is…
Different.
It’s Baldr, yes, perhaps more right like this, but he looks dark. He’s not glowing anymore. He’s drawing the light in like a black hole, sucking it into him the same way the Aether does, perhaps fueled by it, perhaps not. But he is not a being of life. He never was.
Hela, as the Goddess of Death, if indeed that’s what she is, can still see the magic warping, wrapping around Loki and drawing. Ripping his life out as though it means nothing, as though they haven’t been friends for centuries.
Her brother falls to the ground on his knees with a gasp. “How are you doing this?”
“It’s easy. Im not the God of Light. I never was.”
“You’re Death,” Loki guesses, face pale and drawn. “And that’s all your legacy will ever be.”
“Hela’s little expedition to Earth made it harder to hide,” Baldr answers, “You, you were always hard to believe a lie. Ironic, considering how many you tell yourself.”
Where in Odin’s name are Tony and Thor? And where is Odin? Or Heimdall? Never in Hela’s life has she needed help more direly, but there is none, and in this moment of clarity, she realizes what she is, who and what she needs to be.
Bleeding or no, Hela drags herself to her feet. Magic flickering over her like a glamor fading away. She feels a hum, a source of power so similar to Mjolnir and yet so different. When she reaches out, Elderstahl snaps into her hand, the weight of its flames rushing through her, the power burning in her veins like a fully different type of fire.

There’s no basis for this in Norse mythology but I love the reinterpretation of Baldr in the Valhalla comic where he choose to stay in Hel because he’s sick and tired of brutish, dead warriors who just want to fight and fuck. He’d much rather hang out with the normal people in Hel who passed away quietly.
In this version the goddess Hel and the death realm Hel are linked and it’s only a sad place because Hel feels trapped and discarded which makes the dead people sad which makes her more sad and it’s a never ending cycle that only changes once the bright and loving Baldr arrives and makes her feel loved.
(Before you bring it up, she’s partly blue but it’s more of a shadow than a clean bright blue)

Stuff where Loki is framed for Baldr's murder is very meta
#i think i only seen that in a deviantart comic where loki was a girl that looked like a coyote & she was roomies with deimos#i can't find it anymore D:#context: loki was probably not involved in baldr's death in earlier versions#i do support the killing of baldr bc im a hater in general xD

Okay, I got a question that's Haunted me for years.
WHY did Loki want Baldr dead?
Trust me when I say, it has haunted and plagued my mind just as much Roruna! Let's get into it shall we? 😌
Loki's motivations are not explicitly stated in the primary sources, leading to various interpretations. Some scholars suggest that his actions reflect the inherent tension between order and chaos, a central theme in Norse mythology. Others view Loki as a necessary agent of change, whose deeds, while destructive, pave the way for renewal in the post-Ragnarök world. Which in itself is actually a good thing!
Some possible motivations for Loki's actions, that are all valid at the same time for me (many factors i suppose XD) could be for example:
A desire to disrupt the natural order since Baldr symbolized light, purity, and harmony. By causing his death, Loki introduced, effectively disrupting the balance of the cosmos. This act aligns with how everyone always painted Loki to be as horrible as he turned out to be in the end, his role as a trickster, the outcast.. you know the deal! If we go with this its more targeted towards them all rather than just Baldr. They wanted someone to blame, so he embraced it and became their worst enemy.
Jealousy over how Baldr was the most admired among the gods. Loki, as we have seen in The Lokasenna, was capable of being quite jealous of others, even when they're rightfully praised for doing something.. after all we have to keep in mind Loki was treated very badly. Rest in peace Fimafeng!
Or my personal favorite! Revenge for not only how he was treated, but for his race and family too. His actions against Baldr might have been motivated by a desire to hurt Odin for how his children were treated harshly by the gods due to prophecies about their roles in Ragnarök and appearance. After all he was Odin's most beloved son (despite having many more!)
Fenrir was bound, Jörmungandr was cast into the sea, and Hel was banished to the underworld. Loki himself was eventually bound and punished severely, his younger sons meeting a brutal fate here as well. This would definitely have fueled a desire for revenge against the gods, with Baldr's death serving as a means to inflict pain upon them. Even better, he'd give his daughter Hel the most beloved thing in all the 9 realms since they all survive Ragnarök.
I don't need to defend my case here, we know very well he loved his children from the evidence of his traditions related to children and of the home. 🥹

Then said Loki: ‘Do thou also after the manner of other men, and show Baldr honor as the other men do. I will direct thee where he stands; shoot at him with this wand.’ Hödr took Mistletoe and shot at Baldr, being guided by Loki: the shaft flew through Baldr, and he fell dead to the earth; and that was the greatest mischance that has ever befallen among gods and men.
-Gylfaginning
Found this in my drafts XD. If there's a bit of mythology you'd like to see meme'd, let me know~ 💖

I finally finished the project I’ve been working on with @optikaros
I’m really proud of this piece and I worked really hard on making sure every part of it was great since I haven’t worked on something like this before🥹
Progress below
Speedpaint
Initial concept… There were more since this was originally gonna have 2 more pieces but since we changed to just 1 last minute I’d rather just keep them hidden… Also they’re ugly as shit

Sigyn: I can't believe you assassinated Baldr! Loki: Well, 'assassinated' implies it was politically motivated. I killed him because he was a dick, so technically I murdered him Sigyn: That's not better!

Just watched a 6h long documentary on viking mythology and now my brain is making parallels SO
The Dreamtale twins being constantly compared to the Northern Gods by the villagers ( I made designs for them :D )
Dream was always compared to Idunn, the beautiful goddess of eternal youth, immortality, and fertility, always represented with a basket of golden apples that would grant eternal youth to whoever eats one
Dream was loved, praised for his beauty and powers, for how good he was, and was sometimes compared to Baldr too, the god of beauty, youth and light, the most beloved god for how perfect he was
Nightmare, on the contrary, mostly got compared to Loki, god of mischief, bringer of chaos, everything he did was bring troubles, everyone ignoring the good things he did to focus on the bad, he was an outcast who no one trusted
Nightmare was not like Dream, just as Loki was not like the other gods, both being looked down upon even when they only wanted to do good, the mistakes of the others being ignored but their owns always resurfacing until they got punished and suffered an immense pain, the corruption for Nightmare and being tied to a rock with snake venom dripping on him for Loki, before returning to take vengeance, Nightmare by killing the villagers and Loki by bringing the Ragnarok upon the nine realms
Neither of the twins really let go of these comparisons, Dream taking pride in resembling Idunn and Baldr as they were great gods, and Nightmare in a way to claim the name of Loki, both as trauma response and because he has a profound empathy and connection for the god who suffered just like him
Edit:
Also Dust Killer and Horror get compared, respectively, to Hel (queen of the dead) Jörmungand (giant snake) and Fenrir (giant wolf), which are Loki's children
Cross would be Sleipnir (8 leg horse) because he's one of Nightmare's employees (Loki's son again) but he's not as bad as the other three so he gets the cool fast horse

Febuwhump Day 19
Death Wish
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Forsaken
“That was you?” There’s no taunt or the strength with words that Loki has always held, only broken devastation.
“Who else would it have been?” Baldr is coming closer. Hela sees his boots, the orange cape dragging on the ground as he walks, though it looks… wrong. “How do you think I had Asgard seeing me as something other than what I am?”
“You’re a monster.”
“Enough. It’s time to take you back to your master, little Frost Giant.”
Thanos. He means Thanos.
That’s the name that has Loki frozen, rooted.
“Go,” Hela hisses at him, trying to push herself up on her forearm, but when she looks down, something looks… different. Her forearm, her clothes, they look… bright. She’s hallucinating now. Well, she is dying.
And she’s not letting Loki die with her.
“No. You stay, I stay.”
Loki and his stupid loyalty.
“That’s an order.” She tries to push herself up, but the wave of pain is too much and nearly has her blacking out again.
Loki doesn’t even look at her. “You’re the one who went looking for Thanos. You said you couldn’t find him.”
“Of course, I found him. You shouldn’t have come back. That would’ve made it easier on all of us.”
An engine sounds. Loud.
Tony flies the ride they took to get here straight at Baldr, flipping backwards out of the ship as it collides with him, throwing the Asgardian through a rock or a hundred, the Reality Stone exploding.
He lands in front of them. “Alright, let’s get outta here.”
“Take Hela and go,” Loki orders.
“Not without you,” she hisses.
“I can’t leave Thor! And the Valkyrie.”
“Now is not,” Hela cuts herself off, gasping, “Time for sentiment.”
Tony scoops her up, ignoring her protests. “Come on, Reindeer Games. No time to play the hero.” And ignoring her protests, he fires off for the portal, zipping them through.

This is just mistletoe in old English. Which, you know, is technically myth accurate but in the myth it was literally mistletoe that killed Baldur while this is a jewel named Mistletoe, which is significantly funnier. It's like naming a sword "Sandalwood."

What your myth! Loki ship says about you:
⚠ Just a heads up! I am doing this for fun and to see if I understand our community right! I'm by no means trying to hate on anyone who actually ship these things! Ships have just..always been so interesting to me, and I thought it would be fun. Did I forget someone? Please let me know! ^^
Loki + Sigyn = You can't get over how tragic yet passionate their love is. After all it's the only thing we have of them together and somehow it makes the message of loyalty and compassion between lovers even stronger.
Loki + Angrboda = Either you're here for the tragedy that was their love, what could've been if only Odin didn't take away their children.. or you love the tall witch wife and small gremlin husband dynamic (me too :3)
Angrboda + Loki + Sigyn = You're tired of seeing the wives being pinned up against each other, heck it isn't even cannon to the mythology. You just want to see them all happy together while kissing. They deserve their polycule!
Loki + Gullveig = You don't actually ship them but if they had a relationship, it would be something along the lines of: one night stand parents trying to do what's best for their baby. Or you think Gullveig is actually Angrboda! 👍✨
Loki + Glut = You thought Loki and Logi were the same person. Now you either regret it and feel bad for believing in it or stick by it wholeheartedly. 🔥
Loki + Hoenir = Want to kiss your homies good night? Friends to lovers is your thing or you're there for the possible angst of letting a young lover go because it was never meant to be. 😔
Loki + Odin = You thought they could go deeper than being just blood brothers, didn't you? Ohh..the angst and pain you put yourself through for them.
Loki + Heimdall = You're torn between the fact they don't actually have to hate each other vs the way they clearly have a love/hate relationship + obvious tension. If they ever fought in front of you, you'd probably shout inappropriate things at them. 🤨
Loki + Svadilfari = You try everything In your power to forget what really happened between these two and tried to fix the story for the better..💀
Loki + Thor = Let me guess, the reason you like this is because of Marvel? If not you have a thing for the bratty twinks and their giant straight boyfriends that haven't realized he is bisexual yet.
Loki + Baldr = You either stand by the headcannona that Loki killed Baldr because he loves him (one-sided or not) and tried to protect him from Ragnarok. Or you have the "I hate straight people so I'll force these two to date even though they don't go well together." mentality. No, there isn't anything in between for you. 😭
Loki + Hodr = For some reason you just had to see the potential angst between these two! You love the dramatic storytelling of being betrayed by your lover, making you do their dirty work! You poor being, what happened? 💔
Loki + Sif = Possible exses? Secret affair? You live for the drama and desperately want to know what happened between these two.
Loki + (potential) farmer man = You wish we had more good representation of Loki being with a another man. (I agree!) So when Odin accused Loki of being a milkmaid and having children, it opend a whole new world to inspire you!
Loki + Skadi = The lokasenna was enough for you to decide they totally dated in the past. Also you love spiteful exses that will threaten to kill your children if they don't shut up…😨(spoiler: Loki didn't shut up)
Loki + Zisa = I don't know why you'd ship them If their "affair child" was supposed to be a secret but I guess you're into the drama. Anyways Zisa isn't real..she can't hurt me. 😌
