jeff as the guy that started shauna's descents
in the teen timeline: jeff as the conflict point (via cheating/pregnancy) between jackie and shuana -> fight between shauna and jackie -> jackie's death (i am purposely ignoring their nuanced dynamic rn)
and also shauna and jeff's baby dying -> the switch in shauna's kickstarting her sprialing
in the adult timeline: blackmailing her and the other yjs -> almost all the adult timeline events -> like killing adam and feeding melissa her arm to name a few
#no wonder the writers tried to make him as likeable as possible#but damn it really is just bc of him#i like his character tho for just sticking to shauna despite her crazy#also i am removing so much nuance in jackieshauna and in the autonomy of the other characters whos decisions also furthered shauna along#yellowjackets#jeff sadecki#shauna shipman#yellowjackets spoilers#jackie taylor#jackieshauna

so far the craziest thing about deltarune to me is the fact that when i play undertale i always consistently love all of the characters right, like i know every line but they never get old and i like befriending them so much that i haven't done anything other than true pacifist in nearly ten years
and then i play deltarune and interact with those same characters twice maximum before i start gettin fed up
#trousled rambles#toriel is mooostly safe so far but sans? annoying. asgore? weirdly obsessive. alphys? scared of a socially awkward teenage girl at church#not even undyne is safe bro all she does is be a shitty cop and then get kidnapped the second she actually has to do her job#deltarune spoilers#(for that tag oops)#dr spoilers#deltarune#NONE of this is negative for the record i think its hilarious. like damn these guys really are not the same guys i know and love dearly#it won't effect my actual opinion on undertale itself beyond suddenly beginning to encourage my friend to finish his geno run lmao#at the least this makes it a lot easier to choose some of the SLIGHTLY ruder dialogue options. they feel like what kris wants to say <3#only in the light world tho the dark world characters are too likeable if i'm mean to them i'll die

I really don’t like Caitlyn. Convince me otherwise 🤭
#jinx arcane#vi arcane#arcane#caitlyn kiramman#caitlyn arcane#and do not say her trauma made her a martial law commander unless you have great reasoning#you can bring ambessa into it but remember shifting blame doesn’t make a character any more likeable#I say this after I lost a ‘court case’#where I was arguing in the favour of my defendant Ms Birling#as to why she wasn’t guilty for Eva Smith’s death#apparently my defence was too reliant on the fact that Mr Birling was too controlling#and that he pushed Ms Birling to take certain extremes…#this was in an English class btw#hatefueled

Why JP!Cyril's reaction at Hilda "violent Almyrans" or just, lolcalised "fierce Almyrans" was nuked?
He tried to bring nuance to Hilda's assessment, maybe as a throw back to their support convo where she realises Cyril is "one of the good ones"?.
Imagine if, in her native route, we later learn that this axe was someone who was slaughtered and who is still in semi-sentient state?
That'd make the comment about that someone's remains not being "cute" kind of assholish, right? I wonder if this is why Pat erased the "cute" mention, maybe to preserve and salvage Hilda's character and likeability for the fandom? Just like Cyril casual "it's not they're almyrans that they're all violent" reminder?
#fodlan nonsense#on the one hand i get it how Pat really tried his best to make some characters sellable and likeable#because lbr especially in the US the casual Goneril racism/enslaving 'but still giving them one peanut per week'#might have been received with a lot of vitriol like the Dedvan stuff#good thing Church BaD so no one gaf about Cyril and Hilda is attractive for the main playerbase + goofy and a good unit#but damn#'hey Seteth your slaughtered sister's kneecap that still houses part of her essence is so not cute!'#I can't see that convo happening lol#if only we got to see people react to Rhea's latest infodump about relics...#alas we can't have that because Fodlan games mean shit on Nabateans games

See I love Pete and Steph and they work so well together because they are the only normal people in all of Hatchetfield
#they are the only normal people in the entire town#don’t try to say Paul is normal bc Paul is so aggressively normal it wraps back around to being weird again#the dm of a dnd podcast I like said that his way of making likeable npc’s is just making them normal people in fantasy land#when everyone is so heightened and part of the story of the world if you put just a Normal Person there the audience will latch onto them#I think it’s especially shown in abstinence camp like the audience goes Yeah that would be me if I were there#it’s less obvious in npmd but the rest of the characters in it are still very heightened and parodies of their archetypes#but Pete and Steph are just actually normal grounded people#like those are the people who could out of everyone in hatchetfield actually exist as real people irl#and I love them#bc they are the only normal people in this entire town#hatchetfield#nerdy prudes must die#npmd#abstinence camp#peter spankoffski#stephanie lauter#her <3333#lautski#them <333333#the heir speaks

Aight let's hear the thoughts on the difference between wicked the film and play lol 🙈 I saw the tags and I'm intrigued
Ok so disclaimer, it has been a long time since I watched the play or any of the bootlegs so I might be forgetting some details, but I did used to watch the bootlegs all the time and saw the play when I was in the US, and Wicked was even my foray into writing fanfiction so it's always had a very special place in my heart.
I will say to start that I really loved the movie and thought it was incredibly fun. I love that they adapted it in a way that embraced the spectacle potential of the stage play, and while there are obviously going to be some things I prefer from the stage play (as a long time fan of it), I still think it was an incredibly well done adaptation.
The one biggest difference though, I felt, was in the portrayal of Elphaba. Initially I couldn't really put my finger on what felt off about it aside from the fact that they had her crying a lot more than I remember. But after discussing the movie with some friends who had never seen the play, one girl said that she felt Elphaba's turn-around into risking it all for the Animals felt too sudden. That was kinda when it struck me — she wasn't as angry as she was in the original.
In the play, Elphaba is incredibly angry by the injustice of being treated like she's an outsider just for the way she looks, and when she sees the Animals being treated the same way, she feels an immediate kinship with them. The Elphaba of the play is angry yet resigned (her 'I'm Not That Girl' is more of a resigned 'this was bound to happen' vs. the sad realisation moment the movie made it out to be). She's sarcastic, she's loud. She first greets Fiyero by shouting at him and whacking him on the head with a book. She is hurt and sad also (of course) but it is buried so deep that it is only Glinda that actually sees it, making the Ozdust dance moment the impactful moment that it is.
I then came across a discussion on Reddit where someone was saying a similar thing — that Elphaba wasn't as angry as she was in the play. But someone else responded with the fact that 'it would have been hard to watch a 3 hour movie of someone being so angry.' Another commenter bemoaned the fact that they mellowed both the main characters down because they didn't want 'two unlikeable female leads.' And that kinda got me thinking about how they likely 'softened' her to make her more 'likeable' and that kinda felt off to me... because that kinda goes against the point? The female rage is a point of the story that struck a chord with me. It is a story that allows it's lead to be angry, JUSTIFIES it. There are angry men who have led countless movies and shows and who are celebrated and fawned over and embraced, but having an angry young woman in a lead role is risky? I never found Elphaba unlikeable and clearly neither did most of the other people who saw the play (would it be the success it was if they did?) but now that it's reaching a wider audience were they afraid making her too 'angry' would make fewer people root for her? I do think classifying Elphaba as an 'angry' character is a disservice to the nuanced nature of the character, but I did feel like the movie highlighted the sad/hurt aspects of her character more than they did the side that is angry at injustice, but still strangely idealistic and resigned, still believing till the very end that there is an easy solution and the Wizard can just 'fix' everything that's wrong. And so while I do love the adaptation, I feel a bit cheated that they gave us a version of Elphaba with some of her more sharpened edges sanded off, so to speak. I also think the reason her 'turn around' felt too abrupt was because we don't get to see her anger. If you don't see how angry she feels at the world, you don't understand how close to the surface this outburst was, just waiting to bubble out of her. You don't get to see why it was so easy to paint her as a 'Wicked Witch' for a moment of passion when she's been treated like crap her whole life and had to hide behind his anger in order to survive. You don't truly understand why she was willing to risk it all for the Animals because you don't understand how this is her moment of finally deciding to let her rage free and USE it to make the stand she's been wanting to make her whole life.
I still feel it was a brilliant adaptation, I just felt like I missed that aspect of it a lot and it made her character feel a little less nuanced to me. But I could be forgetting certain details, or remembering wrong, or just be plain off — happy to listen to opposing viewpoints.
#knight-gwaine#thank you for letting me ramble hdfkjgh ❤#Wicked#musicals#ask#Wicked movie#Elphaba Thropp#I just feel like she's a kind of female character you rarely get to see so it breaks my heart to think they might have intentionally#tried to make her more 'likeable' in any way#even my friend who is currently reading A Deadly Education said this about the main character#he was like... if they make this a movie they're going to make her less angry#and in that case I heard a lot of people say they were put off by how grumpy she was but honestly I LOVED that about her#how rare is it to get to see a woman just be angry and grumpy#and not get villianised for it by the narrative?#like it's not painted as an attractive quality or anything and she is encouraged to let her guard down eventually#but the anger she feels is presented to us as a natural reaction to her circumstances and like... I liked that#let women get justifiably mad ya know?

i feel like. theres designing a character with certain themes and motifs in mind, and then theres making a gijinka for the water bottle on my nightstand
#me when im the only person on the bus wearing a mask: i should make a furry plaguesona#its hard to explain bc. most of the time i try NOT to give my characters a 'strong' theme like making their whole design around#one thing like apples or even broad stuff like baking or cottagecore.. idk if its partly for flexibility or because i cant imagine them#making it their whole personality. not bc i find it cringe or overblown but more like ive learned to associate design with character depth#i had a cutesy uwu persona for most of highschool because i thought it would make me more. likeable? easy to remember? since#memorable character designs are easy to recognize. and one way of doing that is simplifying it with a theme or symbol so you form an#association. but since im a real person its exhausting keeping up that appearance all the time and denying myself things when they dont#fit my 'aesthetic' or 'theme.' i think ive grown past that bc i just collect stuff because i think it looks cool and dont let myself dwell#on how it might 'fit' with my image. but i cant help feeling bad doing it to my own characters bc it feels like im making them too one#dimensional. despite knowing that theyre not real and design alone doesnt reflect depth i cant help feeling like its wrong#despite that i love seeing motifs because it feels like it reflects the characters soul and paradoxically gives them depth. it makes them#interesting to look at too and honestly its pretty fun combining things that fall under a similar category when designing#i struggle find a balance between those two things#actually this reminds me of noelles christmas theme.. i dont remember her saying anything abt liking christmas despite a lot of#her design and character tying back to it. it makes me wonder if she would have feelings about that or doesnt think abt it too hard#or if its like a matching family shirts situation and shes just going along with it??#maybe i should just do whatever i want with my character designs since theyre not real and im thinking abt it too hard#although. this probably has something to do with deep seated identity issues huh#yapping#oc talk#oc

#arcanespoilers but I am so so so fucking sick of jinx. I'm sorry, I think she's SO lame and #harleyquinn quirky and mEnTaLlY IlL in a really flat way I hate her so much like can you please just leave I'm trying to watch the Violet show. I mean I guess she's a fun villain in theory but every time she's on screen the writing quality drops by like 200% they really could not be bothered to think about her as a real person outside of. Well She's CRAZY!!! (<- only character trait)
#arcane spoilers#sorry im a hater#i like her design aesthetically but thats about it#as a character i completely despise her highkey im sorry#arcane#unrelated but i watched the show expecting to be wowed by Viktor based on his massive fanbase#i thought he was gonna be so angsty and timblr fanbait-y but like#hes actually such a normal and likeable huy flat out???#“i think that hating poor people is bad” “i think that making medicine is better than making weapons” i agree sm viktor youre so real#no wonder everyone wants to fuck him#arcane hate#arcane critical#<- i llike yhe show overall but i want ppl to be able to filter it out jic

I'm rewatching Alex Rider for like the 7th time but with my boyfriend and guys season 2 is so fucking good SEASON 2 IS SOOO GOOD
Alex being such a cheeky brat with the department and Alan Blunt losing his mind because Alex is being so clever and annoying
The slowly building mystery with all the pieces that gradually come together
Alex and Kyra being so cute with the washer and "survivors club" and "keeping score" of who has saved each other's life the most (and the end scene where he's looking up at her from the stage🥹😭)
Jack having her own storyline that actually serves the story and gives her character a purpose
Tom and Kyra both helping to progress the plot in ways that are genuinely required from them and makes sense for their characters
The subtle hints that Yassen is going to wind up helping Alex in the end, the way his character gradually becomes more complex with each episode
Alex just generally being so smart, so resourceful, so capable and just really encompassing his character, not to mention the genuine depth that comes from his trauma + him accidentally getting people killed over the course of the season (Blunt telling him he has blood on his hands)
The tension that builds within The Department as Smithers and Mrs. Jones start keeping secrets from Blunt about Alex
Damian Cray just getting absolutely dogpiled by Alex and the gang who just keep screwing over his plan again and again
Alex and Yassen FINALLY having a full conversation and it holds so much weight and hits so good
The part where Sabina cracks Anders over the head with her own laptop (honorable mention)
All the cheeky light hearted bits where the kids are just being shitheads with too much power, like cutting off the electricity to the whole postal code just to use the computer lab
And then on the flip the angst that comes from literally no one believing Alex about anything for like 60% of the season
It's just scene after scene of "oH THIS PARTS SO GOOD" and it doesn't stop until the very end
has it been long enough that I can say that season 3 just doesn't hit the same😭
#alex rider#season 3 is okay but the characters do so much shit just to serve the plot and it doesn't make any sense sometimes and idk what happened#Julia Rothman (and Nile) is like caricature evil villain and it's too obvious and Alex would NOT trust her he's way too smart#They should have made her way more charming and likeable to the point where even the audience is wondering if she's good#Alex and Kyra's relationship gets weird and forced and it makes no sense that Kyra instantly turns on him and decides he's a killer#Jack does nothing Tom's brother does nothing Tom and Kyra barely do anything#Yassen does a bunch of stuff that makes no sense to me absolutely hate that they made him lie to Alex#The Department gets painted way too much as “the good guys” by the end#Alex becomes very emotional and it clouds his judgement but we haven't seen him slowly get there over the course of the show#He sort of just sees that video then gets there all at once right off the bat and then makes dumb decisions the entire season#anyways blah blah I'll shut up now it's still my favorite show in the entire world forever and ever#season 3 was still the event of the year for me and one of the most fun weeks of my life#but season 2 u will always be famous..
