🪷 Aries (°1,°13,°25) | 1st House

Your rough & tough personality, your no bullshit principle of life & that brazen attitude of yours is what people respect most about you. While some may sugar coat their lives and experiences to make it look pretty or more tolerant, you don't. You're loud, proud & take pride in your ways/experiences and what you've been through. People will respect your struggle and will to survive however you did. Or even just by saying or doing shit nobody else will do. You are raw & truly show yourself as is (albeit quite boldly even if sometimes you share.. too much). You are proud of yourself & do not filter your personality for anything or anyone & that's what people respect. You're a do-er, and most times actions do speak louder than words.

Ex: Cardi B has Jupiter Libra (°13 Aries) in her 4th house. I think she's a great example to give. You definitely see how her fans respect her authenticity & her flaws. Though some people see her as "loud & annoying" those that pay attention know that she's more than that. She's authentic, sweet & can call out bullshit/unfairness when she sees it. I've seen some clips of interviews where Namjoon would always hold down the fort for the rest of the guys. He's also known for that mature sensibility he has. His thoughts are also very (aside from the freaky side of him heard through his music lol).

People adore you for your voice or your writing. Your entertaining personality, your sense of humor and your ability to vocalize your intentions well. For that, people think you are smart and funny. You ask deeper questions, and challenge the people's thoughts/opinions. People adore how well-read & knowledgeable you are! Those with these placements usually are writers, actors or educators (or their job requires them to work with words, teaching or putting their thoughts out there). People adore the things you share or say/ write & even just how you talk in the professional world (under public perception)If you are an actor, you'll find that your lines are quotable due to the fun or catchy quality it has. Ex: Markiplier has Jupiter in Cancer (°1 Aries) in the 11th house! Which explains his deep connection with his viewers and reputation for being a softie (there are lots of videos of him crying while expressing his love & gratitude for his supporters). I remember stumbling on one of his older videos in the past, I can't remember the title.. was it I believe in you? Or you can do it? Whenever he opens up, it just feels comforting. You get that intimate feel & know it's coming from the heart. Why? That Aries degree is a no bullshit degree (which also explains the big brute/act first think later tough guy part of him as well that equally adored).

🪷 Leo (°5,°17,°29) | 5th House

You are most respected & likely also adored for your endurance. Aside from your looks, aesthetics and sex appeal of course. Leo's original traits really shine with this placement, you are able to take a lot of pressure & hits and still come out stronger than ever. No matter what industry you are in or what you do for a living, people may look at you as a source of inspiration or "model worker" due to your independence, practicality & creativity. Even in the most mundane job ever, you do it best or give it your all and people can see that.

Ex: The best example I can give you for this placement is Taylor Swift. She has Jupiter in Leo (°2 Taurus) in the 11th house. Aside from her genius lyricism, you cannot deny that what she's MOSt respected & adored for is her positive, resilient nature. People used to talk a lot of shit about her in the past though she did have her own right to a couple crash outs, but in the end she always found a way to get through it & come out better than before.

Also, Christian Yu has Jupiter (°3 Gemini ) in Leo hehe~ if you're familiar with DPR, you'll know. Please look him up! This manifested a bit later for him in general, even though it was definitely there before; it's like redoing things that you've done in the past & giving it new life. Which to me explains that retrograde of his.

🪷 Virgo (°6,°18) | 6th House

Your humble personality, your regime, your hard work & long-term efforts is something that you will gain a lot of respect for. People see that you are one with the things that you do, mind body and soul. Nothing that you do is made for the sake of fun, but rather to achieve something & that is very commendable. You are a perfectionist, and often become the people's support i.e the person everyone runs to for help or advice. People respect how trustworthy & reliable you are. When your assistance is needed, you will always show up or at least show them the right way to do it. Expect to see this pop up in the charts of self made individuals, those that actually deserve their place wherever they are (& quite possibly deserve more than that too). The only downside is that you might get overworked, because you're the person everyone runs to when they need something. If people lose track of what to do, they just hand it over to you lol.

People often admire you for your charming, fair personality & looks. It's your agreeable attitude when going about life and how you carry yourself when it comes to your presence. You are the type to "do the right thing" a lot and have a good sense of morals & do not tolerate injustices. Surprisingly this shows that you are more attached to activism ( which is usually seen with Aquarius but not this time around apearantly). He was a smart, man with a purpose; there was weight in the things he said & not to mention he knew/mastered how to play multiple instruments & different sounds/genres. Sometimes different genres in the same album or same song! I think he will forever remain iconic in that sense. Many people were fond of him and connected with him on both an intellectual & emotional level and that gained him a lot of respect. Purple Rain is still a sexy staple! Trust me, just watch the musical & you'll get why he's perfect for this example!!

For that spouse or connections part (because hell no am I calling him attractive), there is no better example than Jay-Z . He has Jupiter in Libra (°26 Taurus) 2nd house. I know he's most respected for his business & brand. & ehem, he's literally married to BEYONCÉ wtf. Both of them are powerhouses and that only elevates people's adoration/respect for him. Aside from his very interesting connections (who were also, in fact influential in their own way regardless of their controversy o course). You can't deny that he is a brand that will never leave the celebrity world.

Kim Kardashian has Jupiter (°15 Gemini) in Libra in the 2nd house . Out of all the Kardashians, she has the most iconic lines in the family. She's also a proud woman, a business woman & has been studying law since 2018. Despite her controversy, she is still respected for her eye for business & her powerful connections and just her as a brand. Also, she was most noticeable as Kanye's wife (or rather ex-wife at the moment). She definitely did the right thing ngl.

Guess who also has this? Jungkook. Hah. He has Jupiter (°12 Pisces ) in Aquarius in the 7th house. He is mostly associated with BTS for a large portion of his life & that part will never leave him even if they no longer produce music together in the future. That's part of his legacy. Though, you can expect to see him with his wife in the future but working in a different way (not really leaning into how he did it before) I don't think he'll be "on stage" much after marriage but present in a different way. Side note, but I thought it was funny how both he & Cristian Ronaldo have almost the same Jupiter placement; Aquarius Jupiter (°7 Libra) in the 12th.

🪷 Scorpio (°8,°20) | 8th House

You are most adored for your powerful presence & untouchable energy. In some cases, this could be tied to rap or raw sexual charm. You have a very addictive personality and ability to make anything a "hot item". People may think that you possess a very exclusive energy as well and being able to be in your circle makes them feel lucky or better by association. He had the ability to make anyone & everyone obsessed with him. That power, drive & energy gained him word-wide respect. Also he is known for being a sweetheart, with an innocence rarely ever seen in the industry & always had a love for children and childlike innocence (Despite it biting him in the ass later due to controversy). 🪷 Aquarius (°11,°23) | 11th House

Like if you are in the music industry , it's the blend of sound that you use. If you're an artist, it's literally your art style or the exclusive pallet that you use. You also tend to challenge the norm when it comes to how a person of your status/stature should behave. Ex: The best example to give is Lana Del Rey with Jupiter in Aquarius (°10 Capricorn) in the 5th house. She inspired the Sad girl/Americana Tumblr girl aesthetic back in the 2010s and had a lot of people on a chokehold for that aesthetic. Something about that vintage cinematic charm & classic Hollywood aesthetic just bodes well with the internet. Even in recent years, she was the main influence for the "Coquette" style due to her coquette-esque music. Her music is also undeniably a stand out when compared to other musicians of the time. That juxtaposition comes from her brazen attitude (& heavy smoking) despite having such a sweet angelic or ingenuous appearance/energy in her songs.

Also, note that she has a Stellium in the 11th house in her MC PC (Venus in Cancer, Mercury in Leo & Mars in Leo) which heavily contributes to that as well.

Know who else has this placement? Jungkook. Surprised? No.

🪷 Pisces (°12,°24) | 12th House

With Jupiter in this placement, people adore your dualism & mystical appeal. No one really knows what you're up to or what your intentions are behind the personas they see, but you always have a way to make people curious about you. Your sweet, shy personality also makes people fall for your charm quite easily. Your art & aesthetic is the most "eye-catching" point of interest in your career (in whatever industry you may be in one way or another). There could be a haunting ingenuity that comes with it or Venus-like influence as well. If you are a programmer, people love the depth that your work can accomplish along with the compelling cinematography. Your career/reputation could be related to spirituality as well. This makes people feel very connected to you.

Ex: This is a pretty out of place example compared to what I usually give, but Charles Manson has Jupiter in Scorpio (° 18 Virgo) in the 12th house. He is an infamous cult leader who had a lot of charisma (which inevitably helped grow his already manipulative influence). Now, I don't think it's actually something to be "respected" but he is quite famous for that trait of his. I know some freaks look up to him for that. Which really, reaaally shouldn't be the case. That Pisces -Scorpio combination is just power given to the wrong hands.

🔍 Additional note

For those of you wondering if the Midheaven persona chart works the same way as the Ascendant Persona Chart, no it does not. They are vastly different. I've explained in my Ascendant Persona Chart guide & observations post about the latter but essentially; The MC PC entails your grand scheme reputation or public image (which is often tied to your career but not limited to)

‎You could've ignored it, but no, you were petty and he did hurt your feelings when he flat out denied someone of "accusing" him of dating a mere human. The way he gave out reasons made it was as if your heart was thrown in every torture method all at once, completely breaking your heart and morale. You did not want to assume your relationship with Mammon, you both never really sat down and talked about your feelings very intimately like that before, but the way the two of you interacted with each other very much suggested something more than like and attraction was happening in both of your minds.

‎Heartbroken and dismayed, and maybe a little bit embarrassed, you thought that talking to him will just make your heart race in a terrible way and ultimately opting for a simple method of ignoring called the silent treatment. This of course went unnoticed by Mammon and the rest of his brothers.

‎Ignoring Mammon was hard, atleast he made it hard not to ignore him but not talking to him was easier. He’d been watching the little human prince fail for months. At first it was amusing but then somewhere between the fourth and eighth blunder it just became sad.

The first time he became aware of the little prince’s crush had been right after the Frostheim ball at the beginning of the year.

He’d heard about the ball after the fact. Not from you or the little human prince though. He’d heard it from a third party, a very drunk third party.

Second years, from any house but especially Frostheim, were not frequent occupants at Rui’s bar. Ed wasn’t entirely sure why but frankly he didn’t have the energy to care. Frostheim in general seemed to stay away from all other houses so, when he wandered down the stairs looking for Rui—he’d accidently lost the password to his Netflix account again—he was surprised to see the transfer student as well as the second year Romeo was always chasing around commiserating at the bar.

Rui wasn’t with them. The late hour as well as the slow day had sent him down into the cellar to clean and prep for the upcoming weekend rush. Leaving the second years to fend for themselves.

An untouched long island iced tea sat slowly warming in front of the brunet Ed suspected was called Lucas. Beside him the blond one was sobbing, practically supine on the wobbly bar stool and with three empty glasses surrounding him.

“He danced with her all night!” Wailed the blond. “I missed my chance.”

“It was only one song,” Lucas reassured, placing an awkward hand in the middle of his friend’s spine. “I’m sure there will be plenty of—”

“Did they look happy though?” The blond interrupted, lifting his soggy head from the table to look at his friend.

“It’s hard to say.” Lucas said frowning in thought.

This seemed to relax the blond, but this was only a temporary reprieve as Lucas immediately followed up with, “he was quite protective of her on the mission, and he did buy her a dress for the ball.”

The blond, coiled tight like a spring, let out a despondent sigh and let his head fall with a smack against the bar top.

“Three actually.” Lucas suddenly corrected himself.

“What? three!” snapped the blond then, seeing Lucas’s nod, he let out a grumbled, “of course he wins her over with money.”

The blond stared into the middle distance, swaying on the stool in a manner that sent Lucas fretting by his side. “How do you know all of this any way?” he asked, his voice taking on a dreamlike quality, “you spent the whole night with me.”

“I helped her pick which dress to wear.” Lucas had said it casually, almost flippantly but immediately realised his error upon seeing his friend’s crushed expression.

“What—you helped her…where was I? why did she ask you to help and not me.” His lip was quivering dangerously as fresh tears welled in the corners of his eyes. “Does she not trust my judgement when it comes to fashion? Does she think I dress badly? Because I just don’t have the same budget as—”

“No, no,” Lucas quickly reassured, trying to temper the immanent flood of tears. “You were just in your make up classes that’s all.”

The blond pouted and let out a sigh but thankfully didn’t begin sobbing again. Instead, he huffed and reached across to grab the untouched iced tea, only to have it snatched out of his reach.

Rui, having returned from the basement, deftly slid the drink out of reach and replaced it with a tall glass of water. Then without missing a beat he asked, “are you talking about the new honour student? She’s a real cutie huh.”

“I think you might have some competition from the little human prince.” Ed said from his spot in the shadows.

At the sound of his voice the two second years both jumped. With the blond falling from his stool in a heap and Lucas taking out a pair of twin swords, his boyish features transformed into a scowl as he readied himself for a fight.

Ed observed the pair—one battle ready the other cowering behind his friend—in amusement before turning to Rui who—used to Ed’s fondness for skulking around in the darkness—was staring at him unamused.  

“It’s just Ed, the captain of Obscuary, Luca.” Rui explained in a bored drawl as he cleaned glasses behind the bar. “No need for violence.”

“But—but isn’t the captain of Obscuary a dangerous v-vampire?” the blond squealed scrambling up to his feet as he hid behind the bar stool.

Rui just scoffed, turning to put away glasses while Ed stepped out of the shadows, putting his hands up in surrender. “Dangerous?” he purred, “I am a gentle and delicate soul.”

That earned a cackle from Rui, “delicate, yes. Gentle…not so much.”

Ed pouted at his friend, “Rui you wound me. I have never been anything but tender.”

Rui deadpanned at Ed and grumbled out a quiet, “tell that to my roses, Gramps.”

Ed recalled falling asleep in a particularly soft bed of flowers the other day but if Rui didn’t want them to be used as a mattress he shouldn’t have arranged them in such a pillowy way.

He left his vice-captain and turned to the two second years. Lucas or Luca as Rui had called him was still poised at the ready, one of his swords edging ever closer to Ed’s throat.

“Luca?” he asked. “Are you sure that’s your name?”

Luca froze, looking up at Ed as a myriad of thoughts, all baffled, swept through his head, “…yes.”

“How strange…” Ed hummed, joining the pair at the bar. He sent the blond a smile as he sat down. peering into his frenzied mind for anything of interest but, alas, there was nothing but fear, “and you are?”

“Don’t tell him Kaito,” spat Luca, his swords still at the ready, “he’ll steal your name if you do.”

 Ed stifled a laugh behind a gloved hand as he assessed the strange pair.

“You’re thinking of fairies,” Rui informed Luca, “besides you just told him Kaito’s name anyway.”

Luca froze, “oh!” an embarrassed blush coating his cheeks as, with his head down, he finally returned his swords to their sheaths.

Ed turned back to Kaito who had shuffled a few seats down his eyes still darting between Ed and the door. “So,” Ed began with a smile, “you have a crush on our dear honour student?”

From his thoughts alone Ed could tell that wasn’t quite the case. Whether he himself knew it or not he didn’t really have a crush. The beginnings of one maybe but Kaito wanted for one thing and one thing only—a girlfriend. The girl in question didn’t really matter, the poor honour student was simply the first to smile at him.

“How could I not?” sobbed Kaito, “you saw her tonight she was radiant.”

Ed might’ve reminded Kaito that he hadn’t in fact been at the Frostheim ball but a glimpse into his thoughts and he saw the honour student just as Kaito had. Done up in an expensive gown, simple makeup and hair, and on the arm of the Frostheim prince.

That was when he first became aware of the little prince’s crush, but it certainly wasn’t the last. In fact, it was only a few days later when wandering the campus—and avoiding his chores back at Obscuary—that Ed was once again confronted with the little prince and his feelings.

“Tell me. While you were picking dumb fights, where was she?”

The Frostheim captain and that same second year from the bar Luca, were staring each other down in the courtyard just outside of Vagastrom. At the little prince’s side looking stressed and a little ashamed was the honour student.

Ed still hadn’t seen the honour student. He’d gotten glimpse’s from within other students minds but never in person, never up close. Seeing someone else through the mind of another was never an accurate assessment anyway. People, no matter how objective they believe they are, can’t help but let their emotions rule their minds.

Seeing her through Kaito, after the ball, the honour student was radiant, practically glowing as though she were some kind of angelic being. Kaito didn’t see her as a real person she was a concept to him, the physical embodiment of all his romantic hopes and ideals. So, when she walked through his mind she didn’t walk, she floated. When she smiled it was blindingly bright, and her laugh sounded more like wind chimes than any real laugh Ed had heard before.

And then, when his jealousy blinded him, her image changed again. No longer was she just dancing with the Frostheim prince she was fawning over him. Practically tripping over herself to hold his hand or touch his arm.

Seeing her now, with only his own mind to contend with she looked far more real. More in line with how Luca viewed her than Kaito. Still pretty and still with a glow, or perhaps warmth, but she was real. Not some mythical goddess.

The second year, brave as always—perhaps foolishly so—didn’t back down in the face of Jin’s glare. Instead, At the ringside, if I recall correctly.”

“Yes.” Jin spat, stepping forward as the honour student fretted beside the pair. “At the ringside, surrounded by the rest of the scum from Vagastrom. Alone.”

Ed almost laughed. Whilst it was true that Vagastrom could get rowdy they were hardly the most dangerous house, not when compared to Sinostra or Obscuary.

His comment seemed to break Luca’s resolve slightly, his scowl simmering as his eyes flicked over to the honour student. “If anything happened, I would have stepped in immediately.”

The little prince took a step closer and dropped his voice down to something not so outwardly threatening but far more dangerous, “after something happens is too late.”

This seemed to finally shatter the rest of the tension with Luca’s angry scowl fading away completely. He quickly turned to the honour student and bowed low. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have put you in danger.”

Interestingly the honour student seemed to be even more concerned about Luca’s concern than she was about the fight that had just occurred. Quickly waving away his apology as she stepped around Jin to speak to Luca.

“It’s not your fault. You were just sticking up for a friend. Besides, I’m fine.”

Jin, who had been watching the exchange in silence, flared his nostrils in anger. Then, with a clenched jaw, he spat, “both of you stop messing around in other houses.”

Then he was turning and storming away, much to the surprise of the two second years.

“And stay away from the Vagastrom captain.” The little prince called out over his shoulder, “that’s not a warning. It’s an order.”

Ed smirked as he stepped out from the shadows watching as the pair watched the retreating figure of the Frostheim captain in confusion. But Ed wasn’t confused. For someone who had the reputation of being cold-hearted the little prince sure did make his affections obvious.

It wasn’t until much later that the little prince’s crush graced Ed’s doorstep again. Most likely due to his propensity to remain indoors he heard little of the prince and the honour student. Every now and then a morsel of gossip would make the deary trek down to Obscuary and he’d get an update. Like the rumour of the honour student becoming the prince’s new servant or how he had bought her a yacht on a whim one evening. But other than those small moments he didn’t hear much.

It wasn’t until after Lyca had joined Obscuary and that he got an insight into the situation.

With their newly appointed guard dog came frequent visits from the honour student, who, out of some wrapped sense of responsibility, had taken one look at the abandoned dog and decided he needed a best friend.

Their friendship was sweet, even the most cynical part of Ed’s heart was moved by their often-frenzied relationship. It wasn’t just the honour student who was charmed by Lyca’s brash nature though. He would never openly admit it but even without reading his mind Ed knew Rui appreciated Lyca’s company—and not just because it meant the honour student began visiting more.

Before Lyca had joined them much of the day at Obscuary had been spent in silence. Ed had been alive so long that now days seemed to pass by like seconds. He could go a month without ever having seen Rui and wouldn’t even notice it.

It wasn’t much better when they did speak. Their conversations often devolving into talk of curses and death. Neither topic bothered Ed, but Rui was younger than him and still easily wounded.

And when others did grace their hallowed halls, they made a direct b-line for the bar. Rui spent much of his days alone, lamenting the fact that he was now a danger to those he loved and when his friends did visit it was always through a heavy fog of alcohol.

So, Lyca’s presence—even though it meant more cleaning—was a breath of fresh air for the young reaper.

And for Ed, who had long since given up on the idea of being entertained, seeing the honour student’s bright smile was a soothing balm to his endless existence.

“When will you be finished?” Ed asked as he slinked his way into the bar.

The bar, only just having closed, was almost entirely empty. The only conscious occupants being the honour student, Rui and Lyca. With Rui desperately trying to help a horizontal Haru to his feet as Lyca and the honour student, who were tucked away in a booth, poured over Lyca’s homework.

“You promised you’d watch Kurosagi’s latest vod with me.” Ed whined as he slid into the booth seat beside the honour student and leaned his whole weight against her side.

“Leave her alone you moth-eaten Casanova, she doesn’t want to watch any of your youtub videos.”

Ed opened his mouth to correct the werewolf but was stopped by the honour student who tapped a light hand on his shoulder and offered him a tired smile. “We only have a few more questions to go over then I’m all yours.”

Ed made a dramatic show of swooning, “you tease me my dear.”

“Why don’t you help me get Haru back to Jabberwock?” Came Rui’s strained voice from the other side of the room.

All three of them turned to look at the struggling barman and the snoring Haru. Ed wrinkled his nose and waved Rui away, “I’m afraid I’m far too weak to carry someone as tall as him.”

Rui glared at his captain before, with a huff, he began dragging Haru from the bar. “Fine, don’t help. But don’t let the honour student walk back to Clementia alone.”

Ed hummed absentmindedly before turning back to the honour student. “You know…” He teased sliding closer so that his head now rested in her lap. “It is quite late.”

The honour student rolled her eyes down at the lethargic vampire but the warmth in her smile gave her away. Even without reading her mind he knew she didn’t mind his affection.

“Perhaps you should spend the night here?”

“Ugh!” Lyca spat across from them, his eyes narrowed at Ed. “Stop hitting on the honour student, she doesn’t want to stay the night with you.”

“Don’t fuss little pup,” Ed said sitting back up with a groan, “I would never dream of forcing her to spend the night with little old me. I’m sure Rui has a guest room prepared for her?”

Lyca still grumbling but not quite so outraged gave a firm nod towards the honour student, “the old man is right. It’s too late for you to walk back now.”

“Well,” the honour student looked between the two of them a smile creeping onto her face, “I’m not going to say no to a free bed and breakfast.”

Ed frowned, “breakfast?”

“Rui cooks us breakfast whenever I stay.” Explained the honour student, Lyca giving a nod of support.

“What,” Ed pouted, “he never cooks breakfast for me.”

“That’s because you never leave your room,” Lyca smirked.

“Or…” shrugged the honour student, “because you don’t eat.”

“I suppose that makes sense.” Ed acquiesced still feeling somewhat left out.

Then a trill from within the honour students bag sounded and with a sigh she collected her phone. She answered the message as a small dent of worry appeared between her eyes.

A series of flashing images appeared within Ed’s mind as he watched the honour student. He saw the Frostheim prince first. The picture of relaxation, stretched out with one hand under his head, the top few buttons of his shirt undone. And then her voice imbued with worry flooded into his mind.

I can’t believe I forgot. He’s going to kill me…Ed’s going to kill me for missing youtube night. Again.

“It’s alright my love,” Ed cooed putting a hand on her shoulder, “we can postpone our evening if you have to attend to your boyfriend.”

He said it simply to test the waters. To see how much or how little progress the prince had made. He hadn’t expected her reaction to be quite so intense.

“What?” she exclaimed, “Jin isn’t my boyfriend! He’s…kind of my boss—a jailer more than anything.”

Her defence came fast but ed couldn’t help but smirk because even though she was shaking her head, denying any attachment to the Frostheim captain her thoughts told another story.

There was frustration there, annoyance definitely and some anger too but there was also a hint of something. Longing, butterflies, affection. It tasted like warmth and fresh honey as it entered Ed’s mind.

So, he thought, the little human prince has a chance.

Jin entered his room as he always did, with a slam of his door.

Usually, it was just an indicator to everyone in Frostheim that he was not to be disturbed but tonight he was actually furious.

When he had messaged the inspector earlier that evening asking her when she was planning on returning his blazer it had been—what he had thought—a thinly veiled attempt to see her again. It had been months since their last mission together and with the chancellor constantly sending her out with the other ghouls, he had barely seen her.

Of course, he had her running errands for him, but she always ran off right after. Never staying for more than a quick hello. So, when he went to meet her at Clementia and found her with that Obscuary mutt he was more than a little disappointed.

He would’ve been fine though. After all, she seemed to only think of the young werewolf as a friend. If he had found her with Rui or Haku then he might’ve had a need to worry.

It would’ve been fine, if the werewolf hadn’t accused him of bullying the honour student.

She’s not your servant to boss around!

Even thinking about it again sent his blood boiling.

He fell onto his bed with a huff, resting his head in his hands. Even the werewolf’s accusations wouldn’t have been so bad. He didn’t care what that idiot thought, why should he. He was Jin Fucking Kamurai. He didn’t need to listen to a random first year.

But then the honour student had turned to him, her eyes half filled with apprehension half with embarrassment and had apologised to him.

Sorry, Lyca just doesn’t understand. Next time I promise I won’t forget to return your laundry.

She bowed. Actually bowed. As though he was her boss and she was worried about having her pay docked.

He’d thought that he’d been incredibly obvious, Tohma had told him as much, but even after everything. After buying her dresses, after asking her to the ball, after giving her a boat, and making every stupid excuse to spend time with her. Even after all that she still just saw him as the Frostheim captain.

“It didn’t go well then?”

Jin was up and pointing the tip of his sword at the vampire’s throat before he had taken another step out of the shadows. He scowled wrinkling his nose at Edward who, casually as though there wasn’t a blade at his neck, held up his hands and smirked.

“What are you doing here, bloodsucker?” Jin hadn’t seen the vampire since the night the Laurel Crown was revived and before that they hadn’t spoken since the clash.

“Now, now,” the old vampire coaxed, not at all threated by Jin’s sword, “I came to offer my assistance.”

Jin snorted, “what on earth would I need your assistance with?”

“I know you have feelings for our darling inspector”—despite himself Jin’s scowl twitched— “and I also know you are struggling to capture her heart.”

Jin quickly composed himself and let his sword drop, tossing it on top of his bed. “Who says I have feelings for her?”

The vampire simply gave him a knowing look, “Please little prince. You bought her a boat and bribed the school to find the Kyklos…it’s not as though you’re subtle.”

“Okay, fine.” He huffed. “But why of all people would I ask for your help?” he smirked. “From what I hear these days you spend all your time locked in your room…doesn’t scream romance if you ask me.”

“Funny,” the vampire said his voice cold, “I hear the same things about you.”

Jin swallowed back his anger. If it were anyone else, he would’ve picked up his sword again but as he was fairly certain loss of limb wouldn’t stop the vampire, he just clenched his fists instead.

“I’ll have you know I’ve become quite close with the inspector recently.” The vampire held out a hand. “It’s up to you of course, but from what I’ve heard there’s no one else willing to help you.”

Jin scowled at the vampire a moment, the pair staring each other down. Edward wasn’t wrong, aside from Tohma Jin was mostly alone at Darkwick these days and his vice-captain’s advice boiled down to tell her how you feel or get over it.

So, already regretting it, Jin stepped forward and shook the vampire’s hand.

Step One: effort and a touch of selflessness

For a 400-year-old vampire Jin found Edward’s Hart insights into romance to be rather…disappointing.

“She thinks of you as a boss, but she doesn't not enjoy you bossing her around.”

Jin refilled his glass of whiskey as he observed the strange enigmatic vampire across from him. He looked so out of place. Not just because he was stretched out across Jin’s chaise lounge like an over fed tabby but in Frostheim as a whole.

Jin couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen Edward Hart outside of the borders of Obscuary. He didn’t know if that said more about his own reclusive tendencies or the vampires.

“So, what?” he asked in between sips. “I should tell her what to do more?”

The vampire smiled at him as though he was a lab rat who’d just failed rather endearingly at running through a cardboard maze. It was infuriatingly condescending.

“If you want her to fall into the capable arms of another eligible ghoul, then yes. By all means continue to treat her like a servant.”

Jin clenched his jaw as he set down his glass, “I don’t treat her like a servant.”

Ed’s eyes shone as he sifted on the chaise longue and smirked, “then why does she refer to you as her jailer?”

Jin flinched back stunned. He thought of all the times you had come over to Frostheim, all the tasks he’d asked of you. You had never seemed bothered by them. You had always greeted him with that same devastating smile. To hear you thought of him as a jailer, well, it stung more than when the werewolf called him out for his behaviour.

Ed smiled as though he could see Jin’s realisation on his face. It was only then that he remembered that the vampire could in fact see his realisation. “Ugh,” he hissed bolting up out of his seat, “stay out of my head.”

The vampire pouted up at him like a scolded child. “I promise it’s only in the name of helping you win the affections of our dear honour student.”

Jin slammed his palms down on the coffee table between them. “Then fucking help me! You said you’d give me advice, but you just keep telling me I’m fucking it up.”

Ed didn’t even blink at the outburst just waited stone faced for Jin to finish yelling. Jin crossed his arms and huffed, feeling the angry slip away from him. He slumped back into the armchair and put his head in his hands. “I already know I’m fucking it up.”

He heard the vampire rustling and when he finally looked up Ed was sitting upright, Jin’s half empty glass in his hands. “She thinks you don’t care about her at all. A bit of light selflessness would go a long way to showing her that you do.”

“Light selflessness?”

Ed hummed, “I won't throw you in the deep end just yet, but have you ever thought of, oh, I don't know, inviting her over to just spend time with her?”

Jin scowled, spend time with her? what a joke. 

Jin spent time with her all the time. On missions, when she was running around Frostheim with the two first years, when she stopped by. He sighed realising once again that the Obscuary captain might have a point. Maybe if he was more ...intentional with his feelings she might finally notice. 

He poured himself a new glass and held it up. “So…invite her over? That’s your advice?”

Ed clinked his glass against Jin’s with a wink, “step one of many.”

“What joy.”

Ed didn’t flinch at Jin’s sarcastic response. Instead, he just tipped back the whiskey in one go, only to freeze, pull a sour face and spit the liquid back into the cup. Much to Jin’s disgust.

“You don’t have anything sweeter to drink, do you?” Ed spluttered, his voice sounding horse. “Perhaps something in the AB negative variety?”

You were once again in the back of Sho’s food truck putting together orders whilst Sho cooked, and Leo took the orders.

“Another bacon burger NPC.” Leo called out to you, not bothering to look up from his phone.

You turn away from packing the orders to raise an eyebrow at Leo who, without looking up, jerked his thumb towards a doe-eyed Hotarubi guy who was nervously holding out a handful of notes.  

You scoffed sending Leo a scalding glare as you stepped around him to take the money. “You know, part of working the till involves actually working the till?”

You finished ringing the customer up and called out the order to Sho, who poked his head around the grill and gave you a thumbs up.

“But that would involve touching the money.” Leo said still typing away on his phone.

You rolled your eyes at him, “why’d you even come then?”

He responded by twisting his phone around to show you a picture of himself. His patented influencer smile on his face, posed in an apron at the till with a pair of tongs in his hands. It was posted to his wickhive with the caption just helping out my friends over at Highway to Home—come and say hi! You don’t even know when he had time to take the thing. Sho’s been busy cooking all morning and you certainly didn’t take it for him.

You scowled at him and shook your head disapprovingly. “You aren’t even wearing a hairnet in that photo.”

Leo just shrugged, “I look good though.”

“If you say so,” you snorted turning back around to continue packing the orders but before you can you hear the click of his phone camera go off.

“I certainly look better than you,” Leo laughed, “the hairnet really brings out your eyes.”

You simply scowled, more than used to his antics. 

“Who should I send this one to?” He asked twisting around the phone to show you your own sweaty, tired and all together unflattering portrait. “Maybe that creep back in Obscuary you've been spending so much time with?”

You just shrugged at Leo having learned that the best way to deal with his teasing was through indifference. Besides Rui would never tease you and Ed would probably just say something vaguely flirtatious about how delicious your skin looked.

“Go head.” You hummed. “I think I look great.”

Leo’s smirk twitched in annoyance, and you almost smiled at the site but then he said, “Maybe I should send it to your friends in Frostheim.”

At first, you’re unbothered. Kaito and Luca were both far too nice to ever really tease you and Tohma might scoff or smirk, but he wasn’t the type to openly critique you. But then you remember Jin. Jin my skin is perfect even when in bed and sick Kamurai. He probably wouldn’t say something outright, but it wasn’t hard to image his disapprovingly raised eyebrow and even just the thought of it sent a chill down your spine.

For a moment you and Leo just stared at each other. Locked in a tense stand-off like two underdressed cowboys. You were the first to break, making a desperate lunge for his phone which he quickly tried to hide behind his back.

The commotion captured the attention of Sho who paused cooking to turn around and glare at the two of you. Upon seeing the brawl, Sho merely sighed. He was honestly used to you and Leo bickering but the way you were grabbing at each other, you practically having Leo in a headlock as Leo made a move to bite your arm.

Whilst he knew you wouldn’t actually hurt each other he wasn’t so sure that his food truck would survive so, mustering up his best disapproving glare, he tapped his tongs onto the metal bench trying to get your attention. When that didn’t work, he set down his tongs and let out an ear-splitting whistle with his fingers.

You and Leo both froze, spinning around to look at Sho.

“I don’t care if you murder each other but can you at least wait until there are no customers waiting?” he said picking up his tongs and nodding towards the serving window.

You both turned back to the serving window and once again froze because not only was there a customer but it was none other than Jin fucking Kamurai.

Leo slipped out of your headlock and immediately began laughing. You on the other hand remained frozen like a dear caught in dazzlingly blue headlights.

“I’ll leave this one to you boss,” Leo said clapping you on the shoulder, “since you have the hairnet and everything.”

You felt your cheeks burn bright red as you hastily stepped up to the window. Jin looked as he always did, composed, handsome and cold, his eyes flicking suspiciously from you to Leo.

“Hi,” you managed clearing your throat, “what are you doing down here?”

You couldn’t remember the last time you saw Jin outside of Frostheim and certainly you’d never seen him at Highway to Home before.

Jin narrowed his eyes and ran a hand through his hair, “I was actually looking for you.”

“Oh,” you exclaimed immediately pulling out your phone to check your messages, “I didn’t hear my phone go off I’m sor—”

“No that’s—” Jin cut you off before he sighed, “I was walking by, and I thought I’d just…come see how you were?”

He seemed unnaturally awkward. For as long as you’d known Jin he’d been unapproachably perfect. Confident and always self-assured. You hadn’t ever understood the gossip about him being a recluse, at least until now.

Seeing him now, in front of Sho’s food truck he looked not just awkward but uncomfortable. His nerves were clear in the way he kept rubbing his hand on the back of his neck and looking over his shoulder.

So, the fact that he had come here, even with how clearly uncomfortable he was, just to see you was…touching. You felt rogue butterflies burst into flight in your stomach and now you were blushing for an entirely different reason.

“Oh!” you said straightening up, “I’m okay…I mean the last mission was”—you made a so-so gesture unsure how to articulate the horror of being locked in a prison with Leo.

He nodded thoughtfully. “That’s good, I’m glad it wasn’t…” he grimaced, “horrible.”

You just shrugged awkwardly.

“I was wondering if…are you busy later?”

You immediately went to say no that for once you weren’t but then you remembered the essay you still hadn’t done for Professor Nicolas’s class. “Not really, I have to finish this essay on anomalous DNA but other than that.”

“Well…why do you come to mine this afternoon? I can help you finish the essay and then…” he trailed off avoiding your eyeline.

“Really?” you asked both surprised by and thankful for the offer. “That would be…” you trailed off trying to articulate what you felt, the best you could come up with was, “helpful.”

Jin just nodded, “just message me when you want to come by.”

“Okay!’ you called out as he began making his way back to the main building, “thank you!”

You stood, still smiling to yourself as he waved and disappeared around the corner.

“What are you so happy about?” Leo asked flicking your shoulder as he strode up and jumped to sit on top of the counter.

You smiled smugly at Leo, “the Frostheim prince came to see me. Why wouldn’t I be happy?”

“Are you sure he came to see you?”

You turned to Leo, your smile falling away as you took in his devious expression.

“I’m just saying.” he said with an easy-going shrug but the look on his face was nothing but wicked. “All the other customers came because of my wickhive post.”

You rolled your eyes dismissively. “Don’t be ridiculous, Jin doesn’t follow you.”

Leo just smirked, “everyone follows me, NPC.”

Jin had never felt so on edge in the quiet of his own room. you had just messaged him, told him you’d be there at four, and he was both excited by and terrified of the prospect.

He wasn’t terrified of you just making an arse of himself. Which unfortunately was a common occurrence, at least in front of you.

He was pacing. Shifting from lounging casually on his couch to sitting at the large desk space. He tried to remember what little advice the Obscuary captain had given him.

“Just focus on helping her today. It’s about effort. You put in a lot of money but with your wealth that’s hardly effort…show her how much effort you are willing to put in.”

It was…fine advice. Jin didn’t really have the best examples of what constituted a healthy relationship. He knew better than to treat you like his dad treated his mum but compared to his dad Jin had been behaving as gentleman of the year. It wasn’t hard to be a better man than his dad but to be the kind of man that you deserved…that he had no idea how to do.

But…he wanted to try.

It was now 4:05. You were late but that wasn’t unheard of. You were often late. It was strangely something that didn’t bother him, at least, not when it came to you. Anyone else being late incensed him but with you he was always just relieved you came at all.

He sat back down onto the couch and stretched out trying to look cool and unbothered. It didn’t work.

You hadn’t been back into his room, at least not for any extended period of time, since you had bought him medicine and nursed him back to health. That had been the moment he realised that his silly little crush was more than just a crush.

Truly he had been blindsided by his feeling for you. He had spent so long locked away in his own room brooding angrily at the world he had forgotten that, on occasion, the world could actually be pleasant.

Maybe it was because you hadn’t known him before. Before his mother became il, before his stigma stopped working. You didn’t know him as the intimidating, proud, unshakeable captain of Frostheim and heir to Kamurai family. You didn’t see the before, so the after wasn’t so surprising.

You didn’t look at him with pity or mocking or smugness. Not like the rest of the vultures at Darkwick. That in and of itself had been enough for him to tolerate you but then you had to go ahead and be selfless and brave and heroic and…kind.

Your kindness was the biggest surprise. After everything you had endured in those first few days at Darkwick. Anyone else would’ve been in the midst of a volcanic level breakdown or at the very least furious. But not you. You hadn’t taken your anger out on any of the ghouls, or even the institute.

You had taken your very unfortunate circumstances and made the best of it. The very best.

That first mission, watching you with Riku and Sora, the care you had shown not just them but the other Frostheim ghouls too, it had put Jin to shame. You had been taken from your family, your life, told you only had a year to make it and were still the most helpful, kind, lovely person you could be.

Jin had never shown that much grace. After the clash, after his stigma failed and after his…mother, Jin had closed himself off from the world. He had decided that if it was his problem then it was all of theirs too. He blamed the world for his sadness and showed them only anger.

It was a farce of course. The anger, the isolation, had bought him no solace, he was no better off than when it had all first happened. You though…you glowed with your care for the world. You were strengthened through your kindness and surprise, surprise, that same kindness bought people to you.

Jin had been drowning for years wondering why no one was coming to his rescue but that was the thing people had tried he’d just pushed them away before they could really grab hold.

After that first mission he told himself he was just intrigued, it was nothing more than fascination but then you had bought him soup. It was pathetic really and if his sister had caught wind of it she’d make an asinine comment about mummy issues but it wasn’t so much that you had taken care of him—he was a grown man he is fine taking care of himself—it was that you had wanted to, even after he’d told you not to bother.

As the old man had said, it was about effort. So, with all the effort you put in, how could Jin not fall for you?

Jin let out a breath and ran a hand through his hair in an effort to keep from checking his watch. That was the issue with Darkwick and with you. There was late for normal people—annoying but that was about it—and then there was late at Darkwick. Late for people who lived at Darkwick, interacted with dangerous ghouls all day, and had a habit for throwing themselves in front of metaphorical and sometimes literal bullets.

Thankfully though his downward spiral was halted when there came an entirely pointless knock at his door. Entirely pointless because before the last rap of your knuckles had even finished reverberating you were swinging the door open and waltzing in.

You somehow looked both more and less put together than when he had seen you earlier that day. You were no longer in an apron or hairnet, nor were you trying to choke out the Vagastrom vice-captain, but you still looked…tired.

He would’ve said worn out but somehow the dark eyebags and messy hair had no effect on your beauty. You were still glowing and when he—completely abandoning his cool façade—jumped up and took your heavy book bag you still hit him with your sunbeam smile.

“Sorry I’m late,” you sighed.

He opened his mouth to scold you but, remembering the advice of the vampire, he stopped himself and said, “its fine, I’m just glad you came.”

The truth tasted sour in his mouth but your look of shock and then that pleasant almost quelled smile made the confession worth it. Perhaps the old bat wasn’t entirely useless.

“I—um,” you seamed to steady yourself, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear before continuing, “I hope it’s alright, I bought Kaito” —Jin’s head snapped to the door where the second year Kaito Fuji was standing. Jin hadn’t even noticed him entering. Kaito was peering around wide eyed at Jin’s room as though he was seeing the inside of a spaceship when suddenly he looked forward and met Jin’s cold stare and then from behind him Jin noticed another figure— “he is struggling with the essay too and then I said Luca could come too because, well, he gets lonely without us.”

Jin zoned out, his eyes still focused on the second years. Luca was unphased, simply walked inside with a cheery wave.

“Hello captain,” he greeted holding aloft a plastic bag, “we bought snacks.”

Kaito on the other hand, remained frozen in the doorway, flinching back at Jin’s gaze and Jin simply sneered. You had bought another guy, another two guys. You had bought two guys into his room.

Was it because you didn’t want to be alone with him? Did you want to make it clear you only saw him as a friend…or worse?

Something more destructive than butterflies, wasps perhaps, swarmed to life in Jin’s stomach. He looked back to you and his face must’ve given something away because your smile dropped.

“Is—is that okay?”

Jin wanted to snap that no, it wasn’t okay. How could it be, okay? He wanted to spend time with you not those brats but when he turned to look at Kaito he was struck by something.

Kaito held his gaze and Jin realised with burgeoning anger what this was. It was no secret to anyone, not even to you, that the second year had somewhat of a crush and although he looked adequately intimidated now Jin could still see a shimmer of smugness in the shape of Kaito’s mouth.

Kaito had done this on purpose. He’d inserted himself and you, being far too kind—now something Jin was wondering might be a detriment—had allowed him to. He wanted to get between the two of you. And worse, it was working.

That much was clear when he turned and saw your unsure nervous expression. It was the same expression you had had the night in front of Clementia when the werewolf had scolded him.

Drawing a deep breath Jin reminded himself of the vampire’s advice. Effort and a touch of selflessness. Besides he’d much rather have you and the second-year brats here than not have you at all.

So, forcing himself to not shoot Kaito a smug grin, Jin nodded at you and smiled. “Of course. The more the merrier.”

As it turned out the second years weren’t much of an issue. Kaito was decidedly more behind on the essay than you were and far more prone to procrastination. Even better though was that Luca had decided it was his personal mission to keep Kaito on track. So, after you had already finished your essay Jin basically had you to himself.

Sure, they were still in the room and every now and then Kaito would try to butt into the conversation and Luca would shut him down, but it was worth it to see Kaito’s increasingly jealous face as you focused on Jin.

“And then Subaru showed up with Bonnie and…” you tossed another gummy worm into your mouth as you spoke, “it was strange I think there might be something going on between Sho and him.”

“Sho and the Hotarubi captain?” Kaito scoffed, “no way, do you really—”

“Kaito,” Luca cut him off with a warning glare. He tapped Kaito’s unfinished essay, and the second year scowled before reluctantly returning to his work.

“Why’d you think that?” Jin asked not quite as dubious as Kaito. He, after all, had never properly met this Sho and he hadn’t spoken to the Hotarubi captain in years.

You smiled conspiratorially but not unkindly, in fact there was a warmth to your voice when you explained, “I’m not really sure. Leo was all jealous and whilst that doesn’t mean much, Subaru and Sho…they just seamed close, and I think they would be good for each other.”

Jin nodded thoughtfully. It was clear from how you spoke about the other ghouls that you cared for them all deeply, and in their own ways. Jin might’ve been jealous but there was nothing romantic in your voice as you spoke, just warmth, clear and honest. He found himself impressed by how openly you wore your heart. If yours was on your sleeve he imagined his was buried somewhere deep down inside of his stomach.

“You care about them, don’t you?”

“Of course,” she said unflinching, “they’re important to me…just like you.”

It was like a bolt of lightning directly to his chest. For a moment, there was no Kaito or Luca, or even Darkwick, just your heartbreakingly warm gaze and him.

But then you said, “and Kaito and Luca. And, well, all of the ghouls really.” And the illusion was shattered.

Of course, you hadn’t been confession to him. He was foolish for thinking as such. You just care for all of them, why would he be any different.

He pushed down the bitterness he was feeling and looked down to the table, “even the one who you were trying to murder in the food truck earlier?”

“Oh, Leo?”

He looked back up to you and nodded and you smiled as though recalling a joke, “Leo is…he’s a brat, but yes. He’s still important.”

He supposed he should’ve guessed that. You seemed to have an unlimited amount of care to give. Which was something he found both endlessly endearing and irritating. A confusing mix to be sure.

For a moment he just smiles fondly at you but then you duck your head, a blush coating your cheeks as you avoid his eye.

“Jin?” you say somewhat shyly, “do you follow Leo on wickhive?”

Of all the things he imagined you might ask, that didn’t even cross his mind.

Why did you care if he followed a random ghoul? Was there something you didn’t want him to, see? But then other worries rose to the surface. Because even if he knew your reasoning Jin wouldn’t know how to respond.

“Doesn’t everybody?” Kaito asked earning another glare from Luca.

Jin grimaced because no, not everyone did. He for one didn’t but he didn’t follow anyone else either.

It was too embarrassing to admit to anyone let alone you and the two brats but after his mother, after the paintings announced her untimely death to the whole of Darkwick, he deleted the app entirely. He couldn’t face the comments, the speculation, the rumours.

But how could he admit any of that without looking strange. What if you bought it up because you wanted to follow him? Would you be offended to find out he didn’t follow you? Jin realised with a start then that if you asked, he’d redownload the stupid app in a heartbeat. If it made you happy, he’d do almost anything. It was a frighteningly honest thought.

“I actually…I don’t have it at all,” he finally admitted around the lump in his throat.

Strangely instead of looking at him confused, much like Kaito was doing, you just smiled. Not to him. You were still looking away your face down at the table. You just smiled to yourself. It made him even more confused. Why had you asked and why were you seemingly pleasantly surprised with his answer.

Jin sighed, where was a mind reading vampire when you needed him.

Before he could ask any follow up questions though you were standing and walking around his room. with a quick glance to the two second years Jin stood too following you as you stood and looked out of one of the large windows.

“I’ve never seen your room with these open before.” You mused brushing your hand over the thick dark blue curtains.

Jin shrugged putting his hands in his pockets, “Tohma kept telling me I’d get a vitamin D deficiency.”

You smiled like you really wanted to laugh and then nodded, “you should listen to Tohma more often. The room looks good with some light.”

He looked out the window too, down to the view of the campus below. It was a dreary day, and the cold and bad weather had sent most of the students inside but even, so it was beautiful.

“Do you play?” you asked pointing towards the untouched grand piano that sat in the corner of the room.

“I used to,” he admitted as they made their way over.

“Used to?”

He drew in a breath and ran his hand over the lid, “it was my mother’s, I haven’t had much desire to play recently.”

There was a flicker of an unplaceable emotion on your face but just as quickly as it came it was gone. Replaced with a grin as you took a seat at the bench and patted the space beside you.

He joined you and tried not to notice how the small bench seat forced you practically into his lap.

“Did she play?”

He smiled at you warmly. He liked that you never skirted around the subject of his mother. Everyone else did and he supposed they were trying to be kind. Trying not to reopen old wounds. The truth was though; he loved talking about his mother. For a long time, she was the best person he knew, and he wanted people to know that.

“No.” Jin said shaking his head fondly. “She just liked the romance of it.”

You tilted your head questioningly and he laughed remembering his mother’s struggle to learn. “It’s one of the only instruments that sounds better when two people play it together. My mother thought it was the most romantic thing in the world.” He slowly the lifted the lid and began playing a slow almost lazy tune. “She taught herself to play when I was about eight, but my father would never play with her. Even though he knew how.”

You gaped at him incensed and he nodded in agreement. “So, she never got to…” you trailed off as sadness crested over your brow.

“I played with her.” He explained. “I know it wasn’t what she imagined but I think she enjoyed teaching me.”

You placed your hand over his and his hands tense up, frozen against the keys. “I’m sure she loved it. Better than what she imagined.”

He just smiled at you somewhat sadly. He loved talking about his mother, but he hated talking about his father and all the things he did wrong so instead he moved on to something lighter, “I always imagined playing with my wife when I was older. Fulfilling my mother’s wish.”

“What if your wife can’t play?”

Jin shrugged easily, “then I’ll teach her.”

You smirked up at him, “What even if after your expert teaching, she’s horrible?”

“That’s fine.” He said easily. “I’m good enough for the both of us.”  

You were lying in bed once again unable to sleep. Although unlike previous nights where it had been a possessed doll, or nightmares of faceless men and reanimated corpses keeping you awake. It was something far more pleasant but far more baffling.

Your afternoon with Jin had left you feeling…unmoored.

You were used to Jin’s somewhat harsh nature. You were used to him being demanding, dismissive and cold. It sounded so harsh when you thought about it like that but that’s what he had been like. The issue was that in between those moments there was beats of care, kindness and sometimes even affection.  

Sending you a boat unprompted, buying you dresses, dancing with you at the ball, worrying about you down in Vagastrom. Those were the moments that confused you. That left you wondering if there was more to his cold unflinching exterior.

But all of those moments had been nothing compared to today.

He hadn’t done anything as grand as send you a boat or as romantic as dance with you, but he had been…different. He had helped you. He had spoken openly about his mother. He had smiled at you. And, perhaps most shocking, he had left his room to come find you at Sho’s food truck.

You smiled somewhat smugly recalling Leo’s teasing smile earlier that day. You had almost messaged him to rub the fact that Jin didn’t follow him in his face, but you had though better of it. Still remembering that horrible picture he had of you.

A buzz from under your pillow has you digging out your phone. You expected it to be a message from Rui or perhaps Ren. Both of whom didn’t sleep nearly as much as they should and often forgot that you did. But instead of a message there was a single notification from wickhive.

Jin_K has followed you.

Without thinking you scrambled to unlock your phone and open the app. Half confused and half elated you sat up in bed and checked the notification for yourself. Surely there must’ve been a mistake. Jin had told you just that afternoon that he didn’t have the app, why would he lie?

You click on his profile and if it weren’t for the profile picture of him, sitting at the piano in his room in the same clothes he had been in earlier, you would’ve thought the account was a fake. It was a private account. He had no followers, no posts, and no bio. There was only one detail on the page, under following only one was listed.

You clicked on it and practically threw your phone across the room in shock when you saw your own name across the screen. He hadn’t lied about not having wickhive but that meant he had just gotten it today. Why? Was it because you asked? A small part of you filled with hope and you quickly tried to tamper it as you collected your phone.

But when you saw the still open page again, you couldn’t help but smile, as whatever his reasoning it was clear Jin had gotten wickhive for you.
