valentine’s day: he declined everything he received and sent them back

Rin, before dating you, thought Valentine’s Day was a waste of time. It wasn’t a holiday meant for him nor did he find anything particularly exciting about watching couples drive themselves insane doing insane things in the name of romance. The hoards of chocolates and gifts that would arrive at his clubhouse were nothing but a pain in the ass, and each year, without fail, he’d turn away any gift that hoped to win his favor and send them all back without so much as a second thought.

Now that he’s with you, his thoughts have changed bit by bit. He still thinks Valentine’s Day is stupid. He still thinks couples trying to one-up each other and spending exorbitant amounts of money and time to woo their lover is stupid. He still thinks his fans are wasting their time sending chocolates to him.

And that’s because he’s already fulfilled eating your chocolates. 

“Are you sure your nutritionist won’t get mad at me? Are you sure you’re allowed to have these?” You fret over him, eyes flickering between his stoic face and the tiny chocolates you’ve popped out of the mold, presented plainly on a small plate. Even still, you hold up one piece towards him, like you’re too scared to take the last step to close the gap between yourself and him but still want to pamper him somehow.

If there’s one thing Rin takes seriously, it’s his dedication to his craft. Every waking moment is dedicated to bettering himself, all to topple his brother. His diet is no exception to his strict lifestyle. 

But it’s one day out of the year. It’s one treat out of the endless days of nothing but power foods prepared specially just to augment his performance. One piece of chocolate that you painstakingly made for him, as a gesture of your unwavering love for him. It’s quiet. It’s homey. It’s the exact kind of love that Rin himself didn’t even know he craved.

“Why do you care about what they think so much?” It looks like you still need one last push for him. That’s fine. He can close that distance easily. “One chocolate isn’t going to kill me.”

You hold your breath as he grabs your wrist, lifting the chocolate and your hand towards his lips. His mouth closes gently around your fingers, and the sweet taste of chocolate and sugar coats his tongue. It spreads across his mouth like a warm hug, and it disappears down his throat to leave behind only the thought that he wants more. It’s a shame that he’s such a strong-willed man.

“...Not bad. It’s delicious.” This is his way of praising you. This is his way of marking you as someone special in his life, someone different from the monotony of average and forgettable human beings. This is his way of telling you that he wants to keep you by his side, even if it means that he has to break the rules every now and then to make it work. 

BAROU SHOUEI!

favorite season: end of rainy season

“I’m so glad it’s finally stopped raining,” you happily remark, carefully tiptoeing around a puddle on the ground. “As much as I love doing at-home dates, nothing beats getting to go out with you! And the sun just feels so nice on my skin…”

It’s nothing spectacular, but it tickles Barou just a little bit to see you get this excited over a walk in the park with him. It’s a no-brainer that you’re the sweet and friendly one between the two of you, but it’s hard to not be endeared to how thrilled you are to do something so mundane with him. The sunlight that peeks through the soaked trees seems to twinkle in agreement, and like the gentleman he is when he’s off the field, he offers you an arm.

“You better have put on sunscreen before you left the house. The sun’s nice, but it’ll fry your skin otherwise.” His voice is gruff, but the well-natured intention of his words are easy to pick up. You smile at him as you wrap your arm around his, falling in pace with his steps. It’s heartwarming to see the different way he’s adjusted to life with you, even if it’s something as miniscule as adjusting his walking speed so that you can walk comfortably side-by-side, arm-in-arm with him.

“I have you to take care of me if I get sunburnt. And it’s just a walk in the park. I’m not planning on tanning or anything.” You shrug nonchalantly, clearly without a care in the world. “Spare me the lecture. I know it’s important to put on sunscreen no matter how long or whatever you plan on doing in the sun.”

“I’ll spare you the lecture when you actually take the lecture to heart,” Barou grumbles loudly. He uses his free hand to rummage the small fanny pack slung over his chest, momentarily stopping the walk before pulling out a travel-sized tube of sunscreen. “Here, stay still.”

He lets go of your hand so he can squirt some sunscreen onto your palms. You hold your face out in his direction expectantly, and with a gentleness so dissimilar to his selfish playstyle and intimidating appearance, he gingerly rubs it into your skin. A giggle threatens to break out across your face when you can feel his fingertips go over the apples of your cheeks and the thin skin of your eyelids.

“There. Now I won’t have to worry about you so much.” He huffs. You flutter your eyes open before rewarding him with a smile that’s just as bright as the sunlight you’ve missed so much.

“This is what I mean, Shouei,” you laugh, finding your place by his side once more. Your presence is warm and light, like a breath of fresh air in the spring, the parting of rain clouds to reveal a sparkling rainbow. “Life is so much easier when I’m around you.”

It goes without saying that Barou feels the same way too. 

NANASE NIJIRO!

hobby: karaoke with friends

Nanase can’t remember the last time he’s felt this nervous. Nothing in his life could have prepared him for this moment. He might feel less foolish if it was something worth getting this nervous for, like a big exam or a career-changing game. But instead, he’s sweating like a sinner through his clothes and fidgeting like an unruly toddler all because he’s somehow been invited to tag along to group karaoke with you. 

You, the oblivious recipient of his hopeless affections for what felt like a lifetime to him. He can never tell what you’re thinking, but you look nothing short of radiant as you flip through the worn down catalogue, tongue caught in between your lips in concentration as you carefully scan the song offerings for the perfect tune to showcase your upcoming performance.

It’s so dumb. You’re smart and kind and so patient with him, whereas he feels like a newborn puppy tripping over his own feet in a futile attempt to endear himself to you. Knowing his luck, he’ll be in the midst of trying to blow you away with his singing skills only for the audio to cut off or for his pants to fall down in the middle of the song or for his voice to break like he’s a teenager hitting puberty for the first time or drop his mic and accidentally blow the speakers out-

“‘Jiro-,” a gentle voice rouses him from his nonstop worrying. “Are you listening to me?”

He gasps dramatically as he jolts to life, practically jumping in his seat, only to be scared out of his wits again when he realizes that your face is nothing more than a breath away from his. Any closer and you’d be physically touching him. The tension suddenly roots itself in the room’s atmosphere, and Nanase thinks he might be actually setting a world record for the universe’s fastest heart rate in that instant. 

The karaoke room’s lights flutter all throughout the enclosed space’s walls like the light of many stars holding their breath in anticipation, and judging from the excited murmurs of his observant friends, your close proximity doesn’t go unnoticed. They are absolutely going to tease him to hell later for his horrendous crush on you.

“D-Did you ask me something?” He blinks up at you, his widened eyes the size of saucers. You swear you might be able to make out your reflection in his irises if it weren’t for how dim the room was. 

You expectantly hold out a second mic. He takes it gingerly, clueless, only for realization to dawn on his innocent face when you also hold your hand out to him. You beam towards the lovestruck boy as a vibrant blush claims his face. 

“I’m in the mood for a love song, Nijiro,” you offer. “So why don’t you join me for a duet?”

MICHAEL KAISER!

fetish: faces twisted in despair

Kaiser lives for the thrill of uprooting those underneath him, a cruel grin stretching out across his face as the rush hits his brain. There’s something about seeing his opponents and teammates alike with tears smeared across their eyes, their cries echoing in his eardrums as they cursed and spat his name, becoming the perfect tyrannical villain in those nobodies’ eyes. 

It’s a bit different when it comes to you. As much as he hates to admit it, he hates the thought of you being so sad that your face contorts the same way those trampled athletes once did. But there’s something cute about you when you get frustrated or fed up with something minor: being unable to open a tough jar, accidentally dropping part of your food on the floor, or keeping up with his constant teasing.

“What’s with the long face, darling?” His voice is sickeningly sweet as he wraps an arm around your waist. He yanks at your body, trying to sidle closer to where you’re sitting on the couch. You’re adorable, he can’t help but think, with your arms crossed firmly over your chest. You’re practically glowering at him, and your soft lips are stuck out in a solid pout. 

If you weren’t so mad, Kaiser would have bet on his luck and tried to swipe a kiss from you. But he knows all that’s going to net for him is the cold shoulder and you getting even more mad at him, so he’s left to try and appease you in other ways.

“Is teasing me that fun, Mihya?” You huff. Unlike his saccharine words, your tone is laced to the bone with poison. But he likes that part about you too. He just loves getting a rise out of you and watching the way you react to him, and he loves knowing that he has the power to get under your skin and drive you insane every single minute you spend with him. It’s just so much fun, and knowing that he can find a place in your everyday life like some kind of clingy parasite brings him as much pleasure as striking down his challengers does. 

The nefarious grin on his face only grows as he makes himself comfortable right next to you. Both of his arms are now wrapped snugly around you, pushing your form against his toned chest. You can feel his breath fan out against the shell of your ear, and you fight the shudder that runs down your spine.

“Oh, I think it’s the best. You’re just so irresistible when you’re mad at me.” One arm moves from your waist, and his hand squeezes at your cheeks. “Look at you, darling! Look at how cute you are! You’re the best when you’re pissed at me.”

“You’re the worst!” You grit your teeth, mustering up all your strength to wrench your face out of his hand. He lets out a loud laugh as you turn away from him fully. That face of yours, twisted into your own form of despair, is too good for him to pass up.

black mirror season 7 thoughts(spoilers)

dare i say, this is the best black mirror season. idc idc. i love every episode, so this isn’t a real ranking. every episode is #1.

1. USS Callister: Infinity

i don’t need to explain. amazing sequel. lived up to the hype. honestly could’ve been a movie on its own. so good. i loved the reveal that walton put a clone of robert into the heart of infinity and that the entire game was built upon that. that is so sick and evil i can’t even. then when i stupidly thought robert could be good, he was exactly who we thought he would be. come to think of it, if he had access to the hospital footage where nanette was, are you really telling me he was unaware of everything else that happened. yea right good riddance. and i almost felt sorry for that stupid ho too. also, i loved pixie’s character.

2. Common People

so tragic and real. the subscription service that takes away features and adds them to a “premium” service that costs more combined with a company exploiting their access to peoples brains in order to advertise combined with a company leveraging critical healthcare to maximize profits combined with a family struggling to concieve combined with people hurting themselves to make ends meet was honestly too real and so depressingly sad. exactly what i love in a black mirror episode.

3. Hotel Reverie

is it really a good black mirror season if there’s not an episode dedicated to a lesbian romance. i mean seriously. i hated that brandy didn’t tell them what she built with clara though. it was tragic when they made her go on with the story and then to see clara sacrifice herself and how empty brandy was when it was over. was crying real tears. the ending phone call of them flirting softened the blow a bit…a bit🤏🏿issa’s acting was a little awkward when she wasn’t being comedic but i didn’t care that much bc the episode was still so enjoyable.

4. Eulogy

i’m ngl. this guy pissed me off a little bit like he was being so unfair. making it seem like carol was the sole problem in the relationship as if he didn’t cheat first w the girl he told her not to worry about. then he didn’t even stop to think about her long enough to realize she was pregnant or that something was wrong. he was clearly very selfish and self obsessed buttttt also he was young. and i was still sad that they never got the chance to see things through before she passed. like he clearly loved her. also the main guy acted his ASS off, it was amazing. and i bawled when carol’s daughter played her song and he finally remembered carol’s face. rip carol dawg

5. Plaything

i feel like this is the underdog of the season. i’m agnostic so unfortunately i spend lots of time thinking about our creation and existence. this episode had me comparing the throngs to us and our creator to cameron. like do you think god has a deep desire to prove himself worthy of us like cameron does to the throngs? bc most of us have been taught that it should be the other way around. and do you think when things go horribly wrong on this planet that it’s just another higher being fucking with us for fun. maybe our god is fighting for us and losing, we can’t really blame god for that. ig i cared less about the tech part of this episode and more about the relationship between the throngs and cameron. also someone had mentioned maybe the throngs witnessed cameron and lump and decided humanity should die and wiped them out at the end lol valid!

6. Bete Noire

this episode had me losing my mind. i suffer from this debilitating disease where i’m always right and if some raggedy bitch used some tech to manipulate reality to the point where even when i’m right, i’m technically not right…i’d lose my fucking mind. maria was so valid for going crazy. like verity girl i’m sure it hurt deeply to be bullied in hs and i fully support ur right to vengeance but this isn’t even revenge anymore. it’s just diabolical. it’s one thing to mess around like just do more of the barnie’s/bernie’s stuff. but ur driving these women to the grave!!! and in becoming empress to the universe and a famous superstar, you never considered…therapy??? or going back and changing what happened in hs?? idk there’s so many solutions here and you picked not even one correct one. also maria’s boyfriend was so annoying. if ur my man, take my side! if i say fuck that ho, cosign!

I'm writing a character with chronic pain and cerebral palsy who has a problem with pushing himself too hard and holding himself to impossible standards (just internalised ableism things). He does things like skipping baths and pulling all-nighters so he can dedicate more time to practicing the piano. He's constantly critical of himself and never satisfied about his skill level. He has a character arc of learning to take care of himself, understanding his own needs and limits, and unlearning his internalised ableism. Is it considered the "disability as punishment" trope if his chronic pain and other complications flare up more when he neglects his basic needs in favour of trying to work as hard as possible? I guess it goes without saying that the more his complications flare up, the less he can practice.

No, what you're describing is very much a thing that happens in real life, whether we realize we're doing it or not. Even people without disabilities can find themselves doing this, ignoring their needs in favour of working on something. He's not really being punished for something and he's not gaining a disability as part of the punishment, he's doing what a lot of people do, overworking himself, and dealing with the natural impact that has on his body. That's fine. Disability as punishment would be he did something to hurt someone or try to hurt someone and as retaliation, he got, say, beaten so badly that it broke his spine. He did a bad thing and his punishment, in place of legal repercussions or similar, is that he now has to suffer life with a disability. You are not doing that. It's not even really his body punishing him because the body is incapable of the sentience required to act maliciously. He is injuring his body and because his body is injured, he is in pain. If he stabs himself in the stomach he now has a stab wound in his stomach, if he pushes his body to hard he now has damage to his body. That's just natural consequences

As for the character arc, I like it. That's a thing a lot of people, both disabled and not disabled, have to go through, learning to listen to their body, take care of themselves, and stop harming themselves. He's just learning that he's being self-destructive and that he shouldn't be self-destructive and needs to have a bit of love and compassion for himself. This is something a lot of people are painfully familiar with- many reading this might be going through this process themselves. It happens in real life and there's no harm in depicting it as long as you depict it accurately. It sounds fine to me.

Have some thoughts and I wanted to hear your take.

While I do like lumity I personally think that lunter (luz x hunter) would make the most sense narratively speaking as it would highlight how wrong Belos was about the situation with Caleb. By having hunter end up with a human, it contradicts belos' point about witches being evil and the reason why Caleb left him alone. I also feel like it would parallel Caleb and Evelyn really well since luz was technically the one to kick-start hunters arc (you could say that willow and hunter also parallel Caleb and evelyn but I feel like you'd need more development to actually make a case for it).

Now if Lunter did happen I would pair amity with willow as it would provide some more depth to amity' character and her bullying. We don't actually see amity reconcile with willow besides maybe one or two scenes so it would be really interesting to see how a bully would act and develop after falling for one of their victims. I personally didn't really like amity's redemption because it seemed the writers retconned her bullying by having her mention that Boscha was the one bullying willow even though we see amity bully her in the first episode she shows up in. Willow would also be provided with some much-needed character development if amity really did like her after bullying her so much. (also when luz and amity got together all I would think of was imagining your best friend dating your former bully. Thinking of that I feel bad for willow). Understanding Willow is a decent episode when it comes to willow and amity's development but it also seemed like the episode was just hinting at Lumity than actually caring about willow and amity's bullying plot. After the episode I was expecting amity to try really hard to be willows friend again but we didn't really get much payoff when it came to this (now I might be wrong because it's been a while since I've watched the show so correct me if I'm wrong lol). Willows forgiveness of amity also seemed really rushed to me and I feel like we should've gotten an episode dedicated to their rekindling friendship.

1. I actually really dislike when people try to parallel ANY of the relationships to caleb and evelyn. Hunter is not caleb, and people need to stop acting like it would be better if he was just the caleb in the relationship. He's his own guy, and I think comparing huntlow or lunter to it is kinda silly and I dislike it. I find discussions of 'who's kinda like these dead guys more' irrelevant

2. It in no way contradicts his point. The reason he thought witches were bad wasn't because they took his brother. He hated them before that, him being abandoned is no way implied to have caused him to hate witches because he already hated them. He doesn't care about the motivations of grimwalkers to betray him because no matter what, they do their traitors. They can not make any point because belos is wilfully ignorant of their point of view, brushing it completely aside.

3. Hunter leaving 'for love' in my opinion completely cheapens his character arc and makes it become superficial. It makes him mirror the random dead guy, making him seem like less of his own person and makes it feel more like it's about hormones than the strong themes central to the themes of the show. Hunter's willful ignorance is taken from him, and he's forced to face the truth. Hunter literally thinks ignorance is the way people should be "this stuff is restricted for a reason" "they knew too much and got themselves hurt". Hunter is shown to be a well-meaning yet wilfully ignorant character. The episode makes a point of how it's about how those people need to be forced to confront the truth rather than cause more harm "maybe we just need something big to change their minds" which is so much more important to me than him leaving hormonal responses to the people around him. (And if it's after then that just feels like the devaluing of friendships because it would litteraly change nothing)

4. Why is it more interesting to see a bully catch feelings for their victim? In this case, is that why they change because that makes her feel like she has less agency in her willingness to change if it's motivated not by regret and seeing the error of her ways, remembering the old times and seeing how things change just for it to be replaced with hormones making her reflect on herself because she has feelings for her.

5. While the phrasing of the scene implies that amity didn't bully willow "then you let your new friends pick on her for years" "I won't let bosha and her gang pick on you ever again" if you pay a bit more attention it seems more like clunky wording. We see tiny amity calling her names and if you take the often cited quote in its full "I CAN'T UNDO WHAT IVE DONE BUT I CAN PROMISE YOU THIS I won't let boscha ad her gang pick on you ever again" it seems more like their saying that permitting boscha is another extra bad thing amity's done and another part of her behaviour she needs to fix. (Besides, why would romance need to be built up to to improve this scene)

6. Amity does try to make it up to willow after that. That's the entire B plot of labyrinth runners. They couldn't spare a whole episode with their time but they spared half of one

7. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoy willow's character arc which I think is often ignored by those who wish to pose it isn't there, i was almost going to make a post by myself about it. I love how she gains confidence and becomes more of herself, but despite this, she still needs support and doesn't need to be invulnerable to be strong. I love how its sprinkled in episodes not about her (it makes her feel more real to me). My favourite part of huntlow (which wouldn't change whether platonic or not, infer the combination of their names as you wish) is how both have inverse arcs about finding who they really are. Willow can be as strong as she is and hunter doesn't have to be strong. They together embody truth of the self outside of what others force you to be.

Can someone who knows more about Dragon Age lore than me tell me if it would be detrimental to their characters or fucking awesome if I decided to headcanon that Meredith is Anders's mom. To be clear I don't actually think that, nor would I say it's a theory, and I'm not asking if the lore would support my headcanon necessarily, I only care about whether or not such a hc would add flavour to the fact that these characters are foils, or if it would just be stupid

I mean think about it. You lost your child to the Ferelden circle. You kept him hidden for so long that you almost forgot, until one day you come home and find he's gone. And maybe you always thought Mages were dangerous, maybe you thought you were protecting him from himself, because who's better at protecting your child than his own mother? He's quite the rebellious kid, and you know you're the only one who can handle his fiery spirit. But you failed and now you dedicate your life to protecting more Mages from themselves. Kirkwall is a bit of a charity project. You have no hope it can get better, but you know that you're the only one who could stop Mages and their blood magic from harming the innocent people of Kirkwall. Some days you can almost forget about him. Some days a mage gets too out of line and you think, as you administer the appropriate punishment to make sure they can't harm anyone again, that they might have liked your son. There's one Mage, especially, an Apostate that you let roam free because he's the Champion's right hand, that you know will only be trouble. You know, like a familiar scent, like a muscle memory, that destruction follows him. He clenches his jaw whenever Hawke decides to meet with you and when he glares you think you could almost remember the colour of your son's eyes.

So much has happened since you were taken to the Circle that you can't even remember the name you were given at birth. You can no longer remember the faces or voices of your parents, you hardly even remember where you're from, it's just a vague familiarity at this point. You've suffered so much and you know that it's wrong, you know the way that Mages are treated is wrong, and so you escape, you become a Warden, you travel, and eventually you wind up in Kirkwall and decide that this broken place full of Mages needs you. They need you to take care of them, to heal them, to stand up for them when no one else will. It may be just us being involved in different fandom circles but I feel like you run into the stuff you complain about way more than I do. It always makes me surprised to hear some of the things you hear about (sorry you get exposed to so much of it btw that sounds pretty frustrating)

It’s because I used to frequent the Belos circles and enjoyed some of the popular blogs, but when the finale came around soooo many people went mask off when they realized the finale wasn’t going to give them what they wanted. And so that part of fandom became unbearable overnight, as I realized that a lot of people I thought were chill or assumed had a basic understanding of the narrative or even storytelling… didn’t.

It’s really disappointing, as someone who was a fan of Belos well before anyone else, since the fifth episode (something others might’ve noticed); Is it too much to want fandom to discuss a character as he is onscreen, recognize his role in the larger story, and appreciate how he contributes to other characters’ meaningful arcs???? Most “fans” are fake, they don’t even like Belos and need to sanitize and mischaracterize him.

It’s disheartening realizing people don’t care for the main characters at all, and how this all ties into this fandom’s larger White Guy favoritism; Because even white women are being ignored in favor of this specific colonial family (which includes Hunter)!

I dunno how anyone can be so brainrotted by the Wittebane obsession that they can’t appreciate at all how S3 was a love letter to Luz and her relationship with her family, some can’t even find solace in it… I guess none of it counts if there isn’t a dedicated section to those white guys! People love to take their anger out on Luz’s character by disparaging her arc and making “Fix-it” stuff about her being there for Belos, because they hate the finale said she doesn’t owe him a damn thing and doesn’t want to.

Plus, I often look through #The Owl House tag a lot, especially the Recent section. So I’ll see a lot of stuff regardless of whether I’m looking for that specific character, because all of the characters fall under that umbrella tag, naturally. And I can’t just filter Belos because sometimes there’s actual good stuff using that tag.

Overall, there’s a reason why I now avoid Belos-centric blogs, because so often there’s a dedicated tag to complaining about how their white guy fave got done dirty and how the entire show is retroactively bad, often reblogging a lot of those aforementioned blogs’ bad takes… I was all for the “We can enjoy him critically!!!” crowd until I realized they don’t actually enjoy him critically, they just stop at the “He shouldn’t commit genocide” bit. Which is not even the bare minimum, it’s just part of it.

I see PoC be harassed by waves of anons for criticizing how people discuss Belos on their own blogs. Meanwhile the top Belos blogs are so openly, blindingly white, and infantilize themselves in a White Fragility way; Esp when it comes to acknowledging their fave is racist, or that their writing and fanart has issues. Belos fans love to prove everything we criticize about them, huh?

I am so proud of you.

I see you running through and breaking down bricks walls, seeking approval of those whom you care about. Too often, they were looking the other direction and weren’t paying attention, so you go and dust yourself off, regroup, and find the next brick wall that you can destroy. But your body is sore, it has been broken and bloodied, and you need to learn to take better care of yourself, because this is the only life that you will be given. I am proud of you for having a good heart, for being there for others who aren’t there for you, for not looking for anything material in return, for doing the right things - I am so proud of you.

The truth is that you have a lot of people who do care about you; it’s just hard to quantify sometimes because a lot of them are friends from somewhere like Tumblr and no one that you know in real life. These online friends of yours have gone as far as committing your birthday to memory and celebrating you in ways that people you have known for 41+ years fail to do so. Cheers to them, as you have become friends with some truly amazing people. I know it isn’t easy, but I am proud of you for being strong for others, even if it feels like your circle in real life is only there for you when they need something from you. I am proud of you for sticking up for people who mean nothing to you but they may be unable to fight for themselves, for the people whom you put a smile on their face when no one else does, and for helping others who cannot offer you much of anything in return. Keep working hard and continue to be a good person to everybody, and if people aren’t good to you, may you continue to find the courage and the strength to walk away from relationships and situations that only serve to do you harm. My take on Sayahomu

Just recently I've been ensnared by Sayahomu in ways I could never have imagined when I orignally watched the episodes I remember. I never got to the movies but the episodes were enough for me at the time, and back then, many years ago, I was sad about Sayakas and Homura's relationship dynamic with eachother. I didn't see any way for them to resolve their differences and be... okay.

Since then, a lot of things have changed for me. And since then, I've also gotten a tumblr account. And one day, I'd find a very peculiar piece of fanart of the two together. Ship art. Immidiately I was hooked. After not thinking about this franchise for so long, after only talking about it in relation to the genre as a whole, how could this rare pair- this crack ship hook me back in?! How is it possible?

Well, I can only give you my take on it. And... a semi-related music recommendation while I'm at it.

Venom from Guilty Gear. A character who stands out due to his duty, his loyalty, his protectiveness, his vision of the future and... the influence of love. Love, as it is said, is change. Those who are touch by love are bound to change. Venom does so, as his theme outright states, by packing a small suitcase with his weapon inside. Still doing his life's work from the shadows for the people he cares for, even though they will never thank him.

This, on it's own, already connects him thematically and based on his history with both Sayaka and Homura.

Sayaka, who's relentless dedication to justice, to what she believes is right, her stubborness, even when everyone doesn't think she is ready or that she can do it. After Mami dies, she does what she thinks is right. She does what she has to do, and nobody could stop her. Even though she has never been special in a way that mattered. Never was outstanding in any way that mattered. Never getting her crush to notice her, to see her sacrifices for him. The day she lost her soul was the first time Sayaka Miki did something that mattered. Her small suitcase? Nothing left but a cutlass. Her friend, the love she had longed for, herself, all long forgotten.

Until the sword lost to the pen, and sheetmusic took it's place.

Homura, who focuses her existence, her being and her fate all for a single goal; a single person she believes more important, more worthy of love, more worthy of happiness than she could ever be. Her life and her focus gradually shrink to the tenth of what it once was over time. All her efforts, all her decisions, all her experiences leave no room for herself anymore. So she packs small too. No room for doubt, no room for distractions, no room for the loneliness eating her up inside.

Venom leads a double life, two lies, two truths. Homura does much the same, doing her best to keep them seperate. Madoka can't find out the truth. Madoka can't contract. Madoka's kindness will be her death. Homura embraces lies, because that's the only option she has left to seperate Madoka from her kindness, from her fate. A family grieving their daughter. But Homura? Homura doesn't even grieve herself.

But then, when they are both so similar in so many ways and STILL endup biting eachother, how can it work? What would they even gain from this? What would their relationship do for eachother and themselves?

I think, they would help eachother realise something. Help them see something in eachother.

Or, what I believe suits them specifically

"I should accept the fact that you are tragic, lonely and special at the same time"

Sayaka realises who, what and why Homura is the way the is. Sayaka realises who she once was. How much that shy, scared, helpless girl had needed protection, just like Madoka, that never came. Never stayed. Never followed Homura as she and the clockwork retraced their steps.

Homura realises how much Sayaka, with all her imperfections, with all her contradictions, with all her foolish, foolish mistake has to be treasured. Realises how important their paladin is, not just Madoka, not just to Mami or Kyoko. But to her too. Homura realising that hate and frustration are forms of connection. Truths we are linked to. Emotions that give information. That help us see the world. And how, inspite of how different they are, the connection they share is a lifeline, surrounded in darkness as they are. Homura learning how to rely on others again without manipulation, without planning, without foresight. The one person who can't ever see things her way. The one person just as stubborn as her.

Hello anon! Thanks for the ask!

ASOUE is one of the few pieces of media I enjoy where I really dont have a favorite character. Typically what makes me choose a character as a favorite is if i see myself in them, and in ASOUE that just happens so freaking much. But i want to answer your question at least a little bit, so here’s some ASOUE characters and how they relate to me/why they’re my “favorite”

Violet - she made a promise to her parents to protect her siblings. And honestly, she loves them so much that I think she’d protect them as fiercely as she does even without the promise. But the paradox with her character lies in the fact that she will do anything to keep her siblings safe: like risking their lives. She suggests stealing a boat and riding it across a large lake in the middle of the hurricane. She convinces her siblings to go down a 46-story elevator shaft at the chance of seeing their new friends. Even though her inventions are typically flawless, a lot of them could fail horribly and end up costing the Baudelaires not only their plan, but their lives. Her love is reckless and impulsive. Violet would destroy herself for her family, but when will she drag them down with her?

Klaus - No matter how much time, research, and dedication this poor boy pours into exposing evil, his work is never enough. Klaus pulls an all-nighter studying a subject he doesnt find interesting in the first book alone - i dare any one of us on this wretched website to do something like that. He shows Mr. Poe proof time and time again that Olaf is lurking and attempting to steal the Baudelaire fortune, but no matter how many facts he conjures up, Mr. Poe is ignorant. He spends the whole series fighting for what he believes is just, only to be told that there are no noble people in this world. The philosophies he built his life on are challenged by the world’s obliviousness, and perhaps unwillingness, to decipher what happens in the shadows. But in a world filled with more grey than black and white, will he become the very thing he’s sworn to destroy by blindly believing in good and evil?

Sunny - Say you lived in the shadow of, oh, I dont know, a pandemic. Gen Alpha will live their lives hearing stories told by those before them about how many deaths there were and how the world stopped. But Gen Alpha themselves will only have a lack of social skills and an accute knowledge of technology, not even realizing that what forged their generation is because of covid. The tragedy lies in the fact that they wont understand what made them what they are and why everyone else is so upset about it. Now, how many people do you know that remember what happened when they were around a year old? Exactly. If Sunny is still alive, she’ll always live in the shadow of unfortunate events that defined her life without her knowing it, all while her siblings suffer from immense trauma and all she can do is watch.

Olaf - Is any of his behavior okay? Absolutely not. But what is so upsetting about his narrative is that I believe he sees himself in the Baudelaires. He sees a childlike naïveté in believing noble people exist, that despite trial after trial one can continue to do what is “right”. But Olaf knows. He knows that there is betrayal, greed, and evil prevalent in everyone. And in his masochistic nature, he finds the Baudelaires learning such life lessons the hard way gratifying. He is satisfied to see others suffer as he did, seeing his vision of the world play out. Heck, he thinks he’s doing these kids a favor, teaching them whole they are still young and able to run from VFD. Terrifying? Yes. Understandable? Also yes.

Quigley - This poor boy. Being only thirteen, stripped of his family and almost everything else he cares about, has to survive by himself. No resources, no help. Just a light at the end of the tunnel: VFD. If he can uncover this mystery, he assumes all will be well, that the hole in his heart will heal. But the more he learns, the more he is brainwashed by the cult that is VFD. His savior slowly killing him from the inside. How poetic is that? (This is definitely going into headcanon territory but definitely dont imagine how if he reunites with his siblings normally he’ll only be a shell of himself and how they’ll try to convince him how VFD destroys everything its sworn to protect and how Quigley doesn’t believe them because if they’re true then what’s left of him??? Definitely do NOT think about that).

Isadora: I am a simple woman. I see a hopeless lesbian crushing on a girl who’s in love with her brother and i receive the biggest emotional attachment of my LIFE

The guys have ruined so many characters for too long outta not caring bout variety & consistency since they’ve been comic writers for so long. No more. 

(Even the female writer Devin Grayson has messed up a bit with Dick D though. So idk more cultural sensitivity training? To not caricature them or use offensive terms. Too much to unpack here cause this is long as is. Still doesn’t negate we need more people in the writers room and more idk cultural consultants for new ocs from places + research)

We actually think of the individual characters + their core stories like morals. Also about timeline (mostly), facts, previous history of the character & consequences to the overall story.  

And not just ‘yo, dude I think that chick would look so good here. Nah, you can’t use her in yours then. Imma call dibs.’ Like ughhh. They’re not objects & deserve their agency. Stop flanderising/ assassinating characters, DC.

Be loud, take up space, share ideas. We think ‘oh no, this is too ooc’ but we extrapolate from canon and throw away lines and things that would fit and flesh em out. 

We can bring the whimsy of the 90s back along with better things. Like characters actually being themselves as close as we can get and not just random skinwalkers with their names, faces and costumes 

The amount of bs ‘wtf storyline’ comics I have read for obscure characters though lols. 

Do the writers have a DC word doc where they try & make sense of shit? 

Not as elaborate as mine. Which is like 350 pages & counting (been doing this since last year I think?). Putting the passion in passion project. 

Not just BatfamCatClan, the Wonderfams, Superfams, Canary Kin (was like f, it we need to let Dinah also have her own ones cause she does have a cast), Martian Fam (he does have a supporting cast too but dc don’t give no fs. Cryingggg). Aquafams. More but not gonna ramble.

Do they know the many changes these characters went through? Yeah, nah. Do I? Yep. Mostly. Their pets, their fave things if I can, their blood type (dc why did you tell us their blood types lols).

sigh u ever read something and just go oh this was written by a straight white man...as for devin grayson, women in the industry will be heavily scrutinised but that doesn't free them from mistakes either (i could say this for someone like gail simone too tbh, but its been a while since i read her bad stuff) and some of grayson's choices are...something. but shes not even in the industry anymore, so i think we need to direct the full force of our vitriol onto people who still are and deserve it (coughcough tom king coughcough). but i fully believe we need to support any girls and women who want to become writers in the big 2, lord knows we need more of them

I think Solas is kind, empathetic, heroic even, of course he'll save his friends' lives. of course he wants someone to change his mind.

right up until it is completely unavoidable. right up until it's "turn Lavellan to stone" or "let her kill me and stop my ritual/my duty to my people"

those aren't incompatible ??? he can save Varric and still kill him or turn him to stone when it is the 11th hour and Varric is like "just leave your people behind, dont we mean anything to you, chuckles?" and Solas goes "you mean very much to me... but this was my world..."

I'm sure hed let Varric put a crossbow bolt right in him so that they all die together, but only once the ritual has been completed.

from a meta perspective the writer says it's a tragedy. so like. he is absolutely taking his dedication to his duty to the very saddest extreme.

from a Solas perspective, his people are alive in his mind because there's hope to restore them; because there is that possibility, if he chooses not to restore them, he will continue to have their blood on his hands, because then he will be letting go of them for good. that's a whole world and way of life. versus the blood of this world, and the few people he cares about in it? the Inquisitor themselves erased a whole future world that they didn't like, in in hushed whispers.

how is that saying he's a monster or evil?

it's more inconsistent with his character to say he wouldn't kill the people he cares about if it finishes his duty.

like I want us to convince him that we have a better way, or that he should give up his duty. But that's the only way I see him sparing Lavellan in this hypothetical "would Solas kill Lavellan, ever" scenario. It requires him to give up his duty. and if it's just giving it up for love? he's rejected that twice already, and he knows it means she will die.

if he's going to give up his duty, *something has to change.*

In my opinion, Aziraphale didn't organize the dance for Nina and Maggie.

Ok, we all know Aziraphale cares enormously about people, but let's look at it this way: Why would he throw a dance for two strangers? Okay, he’s known Maggie for a few years, and she owes him rent, BUT he wouldn't go that far just to make Nina fall in love with Maggie. Now you're going to say, "Okay, but sorry, isn't Muriel investigating on them? To see if Aziraphale's miracle worked?" And I say, WELL, Muriel doesn't seem to be looking into this anymore now… So I think Aziraphale planned the ball ESPECIALLY for himself and Crowley. We know Aziraphale is in love with Crowley. It's obvious. (Skip the ending, possible religious trauma or coffee theory but SHHH)

Crowley thought he could make Nina and Maggie fall in love with a downpour, didn't he? Why exactly a downpour? and why was he so sure of it? Well, maybe because in season 1, Aziraphale protected him from the rain with his wing?? And so Crowley can only rely on that experience?? He was also VERY sure about his plan… But let's get back to Aziraphale. A ball. You saw the face he made before asking Crowley to dance with him, right? He was so worked up… And then he said, "it always works", so he was hoping it would work between the two of them too, not just between Nina and Maggie.

And then you remember how Angels and Demons dance, right? Gavotte…?? Angels and Demons DO NOT DANCE. They themselves cannot dance. But Aziraphale cared so much because he hoped it would happen like in the novels he had read.

Then let me talk about the kiss for a moment. It wasn't a kiss from Crowley that said, "Here, with this, you know that I love you.” But it conveyed a very different message, it being "Please don't leave.". It was his last chance to persuade him to stay… Seeing that mentioning the bookshop didn't work much (“you can't leave this bookshop” ---> “You care so much about your bookshop… Maybe if I mention it you will change your mind and listen to me…”) in short: both feel something for each other. They just don’t know how to have a real conversation.

But I'm sure, indeed, very sure, that this second season was a prelude to the third.  It is not yet known if Amazon will renew the contract, I honestly hope so, because even if Neil has said that he will give us a continuation, one way or another, I would really like to see Michael and David back on stage… I am not complaining if it's going to be a book, I enjoy reading, but imagine Michael and David, on stage, with their wonderful performances. They are two spectacular actors, think about how nice it would be to see them say things like "I forgive you.” (Crowley), “I’m sorry, I wasn’t myself…” (Aziraphale), and imagine seeing them hug??? Maybe kiss again??? I don't mind the idea of a book, but I love the moment when a book comes to life, when you can stop imagining and see for yourself what the various characters are up to.

I really hope Amazon renews the contract… we seem to have a lot of things in our favor at the moment.

Ok ok ok I'm not Tryna start discourse but bluestars prophecy was my first ever warriors book and bluestar will always be my favourite so I'm gonna make some counterpoints to you about her being a Smajor character

bluestar has always been led by an intense loyalty and dedication to those she loves and cares for - this includes her mum, her sister, her clan, eventually Firepaw when he joins the clan, and she has a VERY strong moral compass when it comes to doing the right thing - when she sees thistleclaw teaching tigerpaw to hurt a then baby scourge she very much discourages it and is against it

Afaik scott is Not like that, he doesn't have an emotional or love-driven moral code, he does things because they're smart decisions in the long term or because he wants to. Granted I havent seen a ton of his stuff but I have seen his limited life and 3rd life perspectives and he is very much a singular team player there, there to look after himself and well if people align with him that's great he's got allies (jimmy and Martyn) but he won't go out of his way to care for them

Bluestars defiance of starclan in the first series is BECAUSE she gave herself to them and what the warrior code demanded so much - yes she broke clan rules by having kids with crookedstar but she did everything in her power to make sure they'd have a happy life and felt terrible that thrushpelt was willing to say they were his to save her reputation. She didn't do it out of a selfish want, she only ever wanted to help her clan and those she loved, and her becoming clan leader is emblematic of that want. When she rejects starclan so wholeheartedly in the first series it's because THINGS KEEP GOING WRONG WHEN SHES TRIED SO HARD TO STOP THEM FROM DOING THAT - starclan has never cared about the sacrifices she made to keep her loved ones and clan safe, she lost her mother, her sister, her kits, her mate, literally everything, and things STILL KEEP GETTING WORSE. it's not a demand that she deserves to have everything good, it's a cry for help that shouldn't something go right after she's tried so hard???

C!Scott isn't like that. He puts himself above others and inherently believes he will get the best if he just plays his cards right, and he is good at it, he's very competent at lasting a long time in life series and getting what he wants - the ruthlessness of gem driven by desperation kills him in secret life, Martyn's complete fucking about face kills him in limited life, and I'm pretty sure it's etho who gets him out in 3rd life by luck. He doesn't plan to look after the ones he cares about, because he cares about himself first and foremost. Yeah you can argue when he doesn't get what he wants he gets annoyed, but his is less of a 'why don't I get this don't I deserve it' and more of a 'oh fuck this didn't work. Ok new plan double down on getting what I want by appeasing to people cos they're easy to read and therefore account for'

I don't doubt Scott would make a bluestar adjacent character if he made a warrior cats oc BUT his character would honestly be closer to darktail or ashfur than bluestar and that's that on that.

OKAY 1. this is fucking awesome thank you 2. i am going to do something new and exciting (advocate for scott instead of beating him to death with sticks) because unfortunately this bluestar info has only made me believe she is a smajor character even more.

As a general note when I talk about smajor characters as a collective here I’m referring to characters more in the realm of esmp/traffic/rats/pirates/etc, less vampire scott or necromancer scott who are intended to be villainous.

Scott characters tend to operate under a “If I am not a Good Person I may as well die” rule, and consequently abide by a strict moral code to keep themselves feeling clean. For instance: traffic Scott will never go back on his word, he will avoid dishonesty, and he won’t take from others unless he is sure that he can repay them. He will never betray his seasonal primary ally (even when they betray him first), and will often give people things just because they asked him nicely. He stakes a lot of his own identity on this, because it is through being a “good person” that he justifies his superiority (and, by extension, his own existence); in his mind he deserves the best and *is* the best because he is such a good person. When things don’t go his way, he thinks he doesn’t deserve it because he has been nothing but good, so he tries to place a reason. He often assumes that somebody must “have a vendetta” against him, even if this somebody is the world (see: him asking if limlife episode 1 boogeyman is some kind of joke played on him for not giving in to the boogey curse in Last Life.) which is very Bluestar to me, convinced that her misfortunes are a divine punishment.

This is all to say that Scott does have a strict moral code and deep sense of loyalty. Being a “good person” and devoted partner in the ways he understands it are so ingrained into what he is that I think he definitely has the capacity to be a Bluestar if he were raised being taught clan values, even if his internal systems are often built around never letting gross emotions be fully felt rather than what those emotions compel him to do.

some thoughts about arcane season 2 act 3

Let me start this with the notion that yes, some of arcane 2 is rushed, but I also understand why they did things the way they did. And I loved every second nonetheless. Personally I think the "rushed plot" showed pretty well how the characters are also rushing to the end themselves.

In my opinion they used every second the could, even if I would never say no to more episodes.

But a season 3 would have meant that they spent a decade and a half on just a handful of characters, I think a company like Riot is not exactly thrilled about something like that (they didn't even believe in arcane and the animators and writers had to put their career on the line. It worked out okay for them, but never forget that Riot only really cares about PROFIT)

Let's also not forget that a single animator spent a week on average for "just" four seconds. That is insane dedication to their craft and they deserve every single praise they can get!!! I didn't know it was possible, but arcane season 2 made the animation even MORE beautiful. I can't wait to watch a frame by frame analysis on youtube.

now onto the rambles (sorry, thoughts are all over the place):

Heimdinger is not dead. Yordles don't really die, they just return to their birth place (the spirit realm/bandle city) also technicially only alt-verse Heimerdinger's body was obliterated (meaning that his conciousness might still be out there somewhere just without a body??)

I don't think Jinx is dead, the show hints at her escaping through the vents. *If* she is dead, I honestly don't hate it either. I just really love angst and the thought that either sister won't get their happy end unless the other sister dies is just a perfect angsty greek-tragedy and will drive me insane for the next few months! That said there is no way Jinx is gone. She escaped through the vents and fled with the airship! I think she realized that as it is now, Vi will never stop sacrificing things for her, that is why she has to leave. Maybe one day they can become sisters again.

when we first see Jayce eat in episode 7 I thought he cut off his damaged leg and ate it 💀

the alt universe has no hextech, meaning that Jayce likely killed himself in that universe. I'm not sure if Viktor would still be alive, I don't think his illness is cureable without hextech.

alt-verse Zaundads has my heart <3. I love it when extremly tragic series make their own happy/what-if story xD.

The timebomb interactions and their kiss was so sweet. I feel kinda bad that alt-verse Ekko won't remember any of that. And that main-verse Ekko couldn't tell his own Powder/Jinx how much he loved her.

I'm kind of sad that we didn't get to see much of Orianna (her design is STUNNING though) but they are possibly setting her up for whatever gets adapted next in the lol universe.

Jayik: gay love saves the world once again. If I had a nickel everytime this happens,

whatever Jayvik have going on is somehow gayer than the lesbian sex scene change my mind.

Speaking of lesbians, Cait with an eyepatch makes me feel things, I would forgive all her war crimes to if I were Vi.

Mel is a goddess. As she deserves. Someone please give her a hug though. I'm hoping she will play a bigger role in the next series! She seems to be on her way to Noxus, so I'm sure this is not the last of her we see!

That "sorceress" is LeBlanc, I think now it's too obvious to deny that wasn't her.

I NEED someone to write a spiderverse x arcane crossover at this point. The timetravel/universe travel is a perfect set up! I would kill to read an Ekko & Miles & Gwen & Hobie interaction.

What I'm hoping for the shows post-arcane season 2:

It's confirmed that Fortiche & Riot are already working on the next few projects, I'm expecting Noxus & Ionia to be the next focus. It could be a great way to introduce us non-lol players to the world.

I also really want (to know) more about Orianna, Mel and the Black Rose/LeBlanc!
