hiii im putting this here bc. i just realized it recently and ive not heard people talking about it and it makes me bonkers off the wall

we SEE hoodie. in the ark. in the actual series. and the fact that it confirms that tim saw it too makes me DERANGED. also its just one of my favorite shots in the whole series so realizing that its actually ALSO in the comics AND set in the ark?????? ohhhh i go wild.

answering these for jabber bc i love to think about him and its D&D SATURDAY TODAY!!!

He orders lemonade, if it's being served, or water if it's not. He doesn't like being dehydrated at all, and goes some lengths to make sure he drinks enough water. He also just likes citrus flavors.

Jabber doesn't get the chance to have downtime and take care of himself often these days, at least not with the current party. in the past, he would take baths somewhat frequently and take care to preen his feathers.

Most of Jabber's disposable income, when he has it, goes towards books, newspapers, writing materials, and healing potions.

Jabber can't get tattoos, but he does have a few scars scattered around. Most of them are from things less narrative-relevant, like the gash on his knee from a bad fall he had a year or so ago.

The last time he really and truly cried was Session 6, after seeing the baron's mutilated body amongst... other things

Jabber is the middle child. His older sibling, Snip, is older by about a year, and his younger brother Scuff is about 4 years younger.

Jabber typically doesn't wear shoes! Places don't tend to sell shoes for bird feet in the first place.

Jabber hasn't had a consistent place to sleep for over 2 years. When he does settle down somewhere for a few days, all of his supplies stay in one place so they're easy to pick up and move.

Their favorite holiday is their birthday, though these days it has a tendency to make them sad.

On his person at all times is his messenger bag, containing healing potions, writing supplies (though he's currently missing his inkpot), a few knives, and a couple different kinds of currency (both gold/silver and cavarossan currency)

So my problem with most ‘get to know your character’ questioneers is that they’re full of questions that just aren’t that important (what color eyes do they have) too hard to answer right away (what is their greatest fear) or are just impossible to answer (what is their favorite movie.)  Like no one has one single favorite movie. And even if they do the answer changes.

If I’m doing this exercise, I want 7-10 questions to get the character feeling real in my head. So I thought I’d share the ones that get me (and my students) good results: 

What is the character’s go-to drink order? (this one gets into how do they like to be publicly perceived, because there is always some level of theatricality to ordering drinks at a bar/resturant)

What is their grooming routine? (how do they treat themselves in private)

What was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go? (Gets you thinking about socio-economic class, values, and how they spend their leisure time)

Do they have any scars or tattoos? (good way to get into literal backstory) 

What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances? (Good way to get some *emotional* backstory in.) 

Are they an oldest, middle, youngest or only child? (This one might be a me thing, because I LOVE writing/reading about family dynamics, but knowing what kinds of things were ‘normal’ for them growing up is important.)

Describe the shoes they’re wearing. (This is a big catch all, gets into money, taste, practicality, level of wear, level of repair, literally what kind of shoes they require to live their life.)

Describe the place where they sleep. (ie what does their safe space look like. How much (or how little) care / decoration / personal touch goes into it.)

What is their favorite holiday? (How do they relate to their culture/outside world. Also fun is least favorite holiday.) 

What objects do they always carry around with them? (What do they need for their normal, day-to-day routine? What does ‘normal’ even look like for them.)

I don't think the Batman/Deadpool Crossover will be good unless it's specifically a metatextual rumination about unreconstructed old-school hero Batman trying to come to grips with the out-of-universe market pressures that lead to One of the Worst Guys Ever being inexplicably elevated to permanent A-List Hero status. However it's a Grant Morrison comic so there's a nonzero chance that that is, in fact, exactly what it's going to be about

i can’t believe octavian died like… that. of all things in a middle grade kids books series. and everyone was chill about it. literally no one gaf octavian died so horrifically even if it was ‘just’ —and as the readers… we were chill with it too

Katsuki Bakugou, my friends.

His behavior was problematic but never once portrayed as romantic at the same time. Katsuki said and did awful abusive things, and he also chose to be better when he was given the chance. If you’re still hung up on chapter 1 Katsuki now then I don’t think you’ve been reading the same story I have.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m not shipping Izuku with an irredeemable abuser. I’m shipping him with his most important person. His narrative foil. His childhood friend who made awful mistakes and then made it right when he saw he was wrong. The person Izuku looks up to and strives to emulate, despite their past struggles.

Bakudeku is so good because of how flawed these boys are, and how hard they’ve worked to get over it, and how much they matter to each other after it all
