I know this is probably the weirdest post ever and probably very common knowledge but it’s ok to wrong about things. You’re not some super stupid or media illiterate person for misinterpreting things. And misinterpreting something doesn’t inherently mean your doing so in bad faith.

I just realised that the Octarians are so heavily mischaracterized in the fandom because we take the perspective of Inklings so they seem to be way worse than they actually are. Which in turn creates weird misinformation relating to the Octarians and making them unredeemable as a species as a whole, which is fucking insane considering what the underlying story of the trilogy is, which is uniting the Inklings and Octolings together.

"DJ Octavio brainwashed his troops!!" Literally false information, he uses music to motivate troops, the onward jingle is basically the Octarians and Octavio's... thing. That's their thing, Octavio uses it to basically signal "yo I worked on this track." And it has strong ties with Octarians as a whole, as songs found within Side Order constantly reuse the jingle without Octavio involvement.

Octarians are a struggling race of people that live in underground domes as their leader is forced is make them fight the Inklings and steal their power source. It's either kill or be killed. Sure, is there some propaganda? Yeah, but it ain't straight up pure mind control like what a lot of people say it is. It's more subtle and nuanced. When people say "brainwashing" in the fandom, it's ALWAYS the sci fi mind control bullshit version. Octarians do NOT get freed from mind control by the Calamari Inkantation, it is just a catchy song with strange properties that inspires the Octarians to wanna go to the surface and find a better life. Callie and Marie did not free Octarians from "brainwashing" they inspired them to go seek out the surface.

And speaking of Callie, the big one, "Callie got kidnapped and brainwashed by Octavio" which is just false in my eyes and Nintendo keeps trying to push that narrative to make the Octarians more cartoonishly evil. Callie went to Octo Canyon out of her own free will, she talked to Octavio and said "okay fine I'll hear you out." Callie has no trauma or pain relating to past events in Splatoon 3, she smiles seeing Octavio come back in Splatoon 3, she went to a PARTY WITH THE MAN AFTER SPLATOON 2 IN THE DEEPSEA METRO!! LIKE HELLO!?!? HELLO?!?! THAT DOESN'T SCREAM OCTAVIO TREATED HER LIKE A VICTIM NOW DOES IT?!?!?! "B-but the artbook says so! B-but the Splatoon base website! B-but the Nintendo magazine!" I do not fucking care about what some random ass website that hasn't been updated in years has to fucking say. I do not care what a magazine written by an intern has to say. I do not care about an artbook has to say. I am tired of people pulling that out.

Don't make me pull out the definition of hypnosis and how it isn't "brainwashing" again.... You cannot put the words HYPNOshades and brainwashing together because those two words are on opposite sides definition wise.

Anyways, justice for these little guys. They probably ain't gonna be in Splatoon 4 judging by Octavio's whole fucking army got turned into fuzzy monsters LMAO!

It's especially sad to me, how apparently common it is for some people to think autistic/neurodivergent people are lying or trying to manipulate them when they're actually being radically honest— it's just "too" honest for them to identify or accept.

It's sad that their honesty is considered "radical" relative to neurotypical society, when it would in nearly all cases be healthier and better for everyone to be more open and honest with each other.

I read posts that have to do with Percy Jackson and its crazy how many times I stumble upon posts where people take things characters do in the wrong way even though some actions can be justified. Especially Percy and Annabeth.

Misinterpretation in the percy jackson fandom is so common. Especially when it’s used to villainize Annabeth and sometimes even Percy. I actually think they know what they’re saying doesn’t make sense but since it gives them a reason to hate a character they just keep ignoring the very necessary context. Like, of course Percy choked Nico, he was betrayed and he woke up startled. And of course Annabeth hated Rachel, her best friend who was supposedly about to die spent his last summer with her instead of spending it with Annabeth. Does this make the actions right? Maybe not but the context more than explains and even justifies the behavior.

The two most prominent arguments of why Gamzee lost control are misinformation.

Equius says that highbloods are inherently extremely violent because he has a flawed view of the homospectrum.

Karkat says it's because Gamzee ran out of pie when that's something he invented himself, we see Gamzee sober (or almost sober/going "cold turkey") talking to Dave before de icp video disaster.

The video itself angered Gamzee, but what made him go apeshit was finding Cal, a cursed puppet that takes those who look into its eyes under his possession and that starts whispering to Gamzee to kill everyone.

I really wish people would pay more attention to my very near always honest, genuine words instead of reading their biases in my tone and facial expressions, which fairly often don't match neurotypical experience or expectations.

Generally, I don't mean to come off as standoffish or rude or disinterested or anything negative. Sometimes it's just that I don't have the energy to mask anymore; I'm too tired to create or continue the facade for the comfort or acceptance of others.

It's draining when I try to explain this and people still don't listen, or act like I'm lying for some unfathomable reason.

I mask at times, but I don't lie without having an exceptionally good reason to— and a little more of your understanding isn't that.
