Newt headcanons for Newt day!

Canon-verse:

Newt will step up to the plate, take on a leadership role when the situation calls for it, but honestly dreads it. He hates feeling that kind of pressure, those expectations placed on him. He feels inadequate and like he falls short where others (Thomas and Alby) have succeeded. He prefers his role as second-in-command. It gives him a platform for his voice to be heard, and be taken seriously, and he can still assist where needed, provide advice to the others and keep them in check. (Honestly, as far as I'm concerned this is just canon.)

Newt is a (power)bottom.

AU:

Newt, to everyone's shock and disbelief, is more of a coffee drinker than tea. He enjoys the occasional cup of tea, of course, but simply drinks coffee out of habit. He'll usually just take it with cream, but definitely enjoys adding Irish cream or peppermint syrup on occasion. 

Newt's favourite colour/s are blue and purple. He also likes deep reds.

His favourite season is fall. The colours of the trees changing and the smell of fallen leaves, as well as the scorching heat of summer finally dying off and the approach of Halloween and the other holidays are all reasons for this. 

Newt often wears turtlenecks and jumpers - partly because they're simply comfortable and versatile, but also to hide his scars. He hates it when people stare as if he won't notice, his brokenness physically displayed for everyone to see.

Newt plays the violin.

Newt always enjoyed running at night, before he broke his leg. It felt like he could breathe easier, run faster in the cool night air.

Now, he's more of a swimmer. It's therapeutic for his leg, and he enjoys being in the water.

Newt pierced his ears himself when he was 13.

If you were to ask any of them, his friends would compare Newt to a cat, personality-wise. However, he's both a cat and dog person.

Newt prefers wine over beer, mostly. With some exceptions, beer, in his opinion, tastes like piss.

Newt enjoys reading, listening to music, and drawing. He dabbles in writing too, on occasion. It gives him purpose to create something and put it out into the world, makes him feel like he's contributing in some way.

When he was younger, Newt wanted to be a veterinarian. However, he didn't end up pursuing it because he realized he wouldn't be able to cope when he lost patients. Yet, he still helps in other ways. He likes to volunteer at the local animal shelter, and works at the doggy daycare.

Newt enjoys surrealist horror and mystery, and has seen David Lynch's complete filmography. 

His favourite shows are Twin Peaks, Hannibal, and The Following. 

Newt often has candles or incense burning in his room. It helps him to de-stress and creates a calm, relaxing environment. 

Newt's history hyperfixation was Ancient Egypt.

Newt loves the smell of petrichor, and particularly enjoys cold, dewy mornings after it rains.

Newt is a Cancer + Virgo moon.

Newt drives a 1956 VW Beetle (black.)

honestly my roman empire is how newt said “they would follow you anywhere” to thomas in that deleted bonfire scene on tst and we all know he meant to say “I would follow you anywhere”, but then in his goodbye letter he did say it

and i like to think it’s because he was too afraid to admit he was talking about himself at the bonfire, afraid thomas would notice newt’s feelings towards him. but then newt didn’t care anymore when he wrote the letter bc ‘hey, i’ll be dead anyways’

20 years old MC, Sebastian, Ominis & Anne ~ . To be honest I still have yet decided on the crew's career after graduation. But I have some thoughts about grown-up Seb will work as an Unspeakable for the Ministry, Ominis may become a healer and Anne may work as a potioneer and help Ominis.

Random things Newt Scamander would do:

Never correct the Starbucks employees when they get his name wrong + tip always

Buy random things for people just because the item reminds him of them

Carry something of Tina's wherever he goes because he's just THAT whipped

Write down all his ideas in a notebook the moment he thinks of them

Have hidden pockets sewn into his clothes

Collect sand from each beach that he visits

Sketch every creature he sees

Keep jars and jars of curious things

Collect tokens to commemorate each place that he's visited

Talk to his plants

Write letters (not just because of the time period he resides in)

Keep a piece of chocolate or candy in his pocket/hat

Be one of those awkward but wholesome vloggers to document his discoveries and experiences

So what about that scene in...Secrets of Dumbledore, I think it was? When Newt is with Bunty, with his open case behind him.

Newt: Sometimes it takes losing something to realize quite how much it means.  Bunty: And sometimes you just know.

The camera went to his case, and we can see the photo he has of Tina. I thought of her in respect to what he said, especially in light of the fact that Tina wasn't there and he perhaps misses her. It's not that he lost her necessarily, not through his own fault, I don't think. I mean, she got promoted, but I definitely got the sense that he missed her.

I just realized that Chuck is short for Charles and that there is therefore a Nick and Charlie in the Glade for a while before Thomas gets there.

Obviously it won't be romantic or anything because of the age difference, and it's the freaking Maze so there isn't exactly time for romance, and also Nick is aroallo so no chance of that with anyone, but I like imagining something like a father-son relationship.

So here are some hcs about them because yeah.

Nick is the one to pull Chuck out of the box, and he's the only one not to make a comment about how he klunked his pants; he just takes him to Homestead and gets him another pair.

He gives him the tour of the Glade is very patient with him, even though he has to let him change two more times and he literally never stops asking questions. He's still mysterious, like they always are with Greenies, but he's nice about it.

After the tour, Chuck sort of just follows him around, tagging along as he goes about his day.

He wants to work in the kitchen, but there are too many cooks as it is, so he ends up being a Slopper.

Chuck sits with Nick every night at dinner, which is a nice new constant for him, since he hasn't really had any close friends since George.

Chuck is the only one who doesn't seem to mind how he closes off from people when they ask anything about him.

They spend so much time together that the other Gladers start to see Chuck as a sort of extension of Nick.

Chuck gets nicknames the Vice-president since he's always around Nick.

Whenever Chuck gets on someone's nerves by asking too many questions they just tell him to "go ask your mom".

"So, Nick, how does it feel to be a single mother at the ripe age of whatever your shucking age is?"

"I've been a mother for a good two years now, so I don't know why you're suddenly asking now. And you know very well that Alby is your father and loves you very much. I don't think he'd be too happy to know what you've been saying about him."

When Nick dies it absolutely WRECKS Chuck.

We're talking not getting out of bed for weeks.

Newt physically drags him out every morning, telling him how being lazy will make him sadder.

The first time he manages to get out of bed by himself is the day Thomas gets there.

Something about Thomas reminds him of Nick, maybe the way he sort of adopts him immediately, but it makes him leech onto Thomas and never want to let go.
