would you be willing to share a little more about your notion categorization, like how you set it up? i can barely figure out how to make it work in a way for me that is meaningful but what u described sounds great lol

here's the condensed version because i cannot write it all out again:

here are all the properties in my database. all the ones with arrows next to them are "relations" to other databases in my notion cause i like to link things lol.. i also set up a relation to the repository database itself for similar ideas so they can be linked too.

everything is visible in a "gallery" view which has these settings

below is what it looks like in said gallery mode, which i can sort using either the "this is a:" properties or the "through-line" tags

and this is what the inside of a single entry looks like:

— the thing about boredom after getting that law degree is that you find yourself doing things like this i.e., reading cases and the latest updates and compiling them into each law subject so when you need some reference in a hectic day you can pull it out easily. (face-palms in nerdy)

okay stargate fans help me out here

writing a VERY long fic and I want to eventually have the sgc go Public, and also International and also Move to a different country

for a lot of reasons, mostly being, like, less America-centric and stuff

problem is I have ZERO idea where a good location would be?? so here's where y'all come in

your mission, if you choose to accept it, would be to pitch a location with some pros and cons about putting the gate there! Assume the goal is that this will be publically accessible to ALL the peoples of earth. Bonus points if you can make it politically relevant to the state of politics in the early 2000s, I will be doing Brief research about this, but also sticking a big "I was, like, Five when this was happening" disclaimer on it. This is a fun project, I'm putting in exactly as much effort as still makes it fun, which is not doing detailed political research skskdkfk

You can also pitch locations that you think would have been suggested and immediately shot down and why

anyway I'll grab all the places and recommendations in like a week or two and then run a poll to see which option is the most popular! This is mostly gonna be background to the actual fic, but I'll also be using the pros and cons to mention why certain places Didn't get picked and shout people out in the fic for the help

Y’all I get the criticism but saying it’s not possible to take a test in ten minutes and ace it is just not true.

1. It’s literally just basic test taking strategy. I’m taking the SAT in a month and what Lyra describes is literally in my Princeton review book. There’s an entire chapter that details process of elimination and how you don’t need to know any of the content or even read the passages when taking multiple choice test bc you just need to look for a PATTERN. You just read what it’s asking and look at the answer choices to eliminate obviously wrong answers, and this saves you time bc if you eliminate wrong answers then you can always find the right answer. And if you already have some prior knowledge or other skills like her brain that only recognizes concepts well then I’m sure you can do really well, which she does.

2. Sure maybe even knowing that what she did is just basic process of elimination it’s still a little unrealistic but I mean it’s not more unrealistic than 4 teenagers who can solve puzzles in their minds in mere minutes, who have an uncountable number of skills like sword fighting, rock climbing, computer hacking, shooting, and who are the BEST at EVERYTHING they do and have been since the day they were born.

Her taking a test and acing it isn’t the most unrealistic thing in this series and if the real criticism is that she’s too much like Avery and Grayson then I also get that but at the same time it’s not completely true. She has more of a fiery/snarky side to her like with the way she responded to the profesor and the assholes who catcalled her. Neither Avery or Grayson would have reacted the way she did. They are both way more poised than that and would have kept most comments to themselves bc for them less is more when. But Lyra had no problem throwing it right back at them. Sure they would have still responded in some way but not in the same way.

One last thing I wanna say is that she will probably look and sound way different in other peoples POV. If you’ve ever read heroes of Olympus you might understand, but characters often view themselves way different than how others view them. Like with Percy and Leo. In Percy’s chapters you see how most times he doesn’t really know what he’s doing or that he’s a little self conscious but from litteraly everyone else POV they describe him as intimidating and powerful like a really tough guy but also chill but in his own the dude is literally just thinking about Annabeth, how to not die, and making stupid jokes. And Leo is the opposite. In everyone else’s chapters he’s the funny guy, super unserious and just overall happy chill dude but in his own you see how much he is suffering with feeling left out, a little depression, and self hatred and you see himself putting himself down. It’s a common phenomenon, so my guess is that with Lyra it will be similar, she is the only one who will know she is suffering, Grayson doesn’t count bc he doesn’t have a pov. Her personality might shine through more in gigis or rohans pov and I think if we really want to judge until we see both of these sides of her.

idk if i can fully articulate this but i find it like, Interesting how often people seem to flinch away from the notion of a character having a genuine difficulty in academic settings that is caused by Intellect — how often people will seemingly try to get around the idea by writing something that amounts to, like “No this character is Smart, they just struggle with XYZ and if they were Accommodated for that, then they wouldn’t struggle in school” but it’s like,, why do they Have to be ‘smart’ though?
