Organizing solutions come and go but I hate that the current most successful one is just a sheet of printer paper with all the projects and a spot for a daily sticky note

#all the projects kind of only worked cause it was time-bound to get done before trip home #i would post a pic but it's full of identifying info. but literally i just had 3 big task columns and 1 for calendar events #and swapped sticky notes daily #it's great cause this way i can renew daily tasks like Bible and yoga and cooking #and keep them in the same field of vision without cluttering my big-picture view with a bunch of daily stuff #also helpful to see how i'm progressing on various timelines eg finishing a lecture by Monday and a chapter draft by yesterday #maybe i will do this again for march except a whole month seems a lot. maybe 2 weeks #i hate it because i have like planner books and ye olde daily and weekly planners and an app and everything #but nooo the brain requires color-coded columns on a piece of paper. to sit there for 2 weeks. or else Panic

the unfortunate lesson I've learned in the past couple of weeks is BACK UP YOUR NOTES APP

#story: i had a samsung phone that has the samsung specific notes app right?#well my phone said “fuck you” and the screen would not turn on #the phone was ON #i would still get my fucking alarm at 7am but the screen was unresponsive #anyway i got a new phone but it's motorola so i can't get that notes app back #and it had SO MANY IDEAS for fics and school papers and dialogue bits etc in there #and i don't have them backed up in my drive at all. i saved nothing unless i was working on a doc that i just copy pasted the stuff on #so my stuff is just lost until i can get my hands on a samsung device *eye roll*#i let my old phone die and i decided to charge it for shits and giggles and LOW AND BEHOLD THE SCREEN WORKS #at least to show me the battery level #so hopefully i get it working and i can transfer shit to a doc #i don't even care i just need my notes back #i'll sort them later

thinking of book binding my online history

#or scrapbooking idk #like my smb chapters from wp and then for tumblr my personal posts and maybe tags and some asks #oh and also my poetry book for the wp stuff i would imagine #wish i could back up the warriors rp somehow but that sounds. difficult i would have to like screenshot every comment and there are a lot 💀#reading my old diaries and travel journal entries always makes me smile and so does revisiting old online stuff… for the most part at least #there are still some things that make me go oh my god leigh why would you say that but #eventually all of this is going to be shut down and i don’t want the whole period of my life from middle school to now gone. because other #than travel journals and the quarantine journal i was required to do during lockdown for ap lang lmao i haven’t consistently #journaled since elementary school #<- on that note thinking of picking it back up im not sure. the problem is when i write journal entries i write a LOT and it would be very #time consuming and hard to keep up esp w pen and paper. looking at you travel journal that always starts with like 20 pages per day and #then i eventually resort to keeping bullet points in my notes app telling myself i’ll write the full entry later except i never do and #have to copy the bullets straight into the journal a year and a half later because i have since forgotten the details behind them #anyway.#chesschats

#saw a reply to a post that was like #websites only have apps to get more ad revenue out of you #and like. what i had to say about this wasn't the point of the original post so I'm making my own #but Reddit's mobile site used to be perfectly good and engaging #now it's changed layouts and stuff and it looks like the app. which we despise and hate and find unintuitive and user-unfriendly #which means what in practice? we're not using the app we hate it. we're just not on Reddit if we're not on the computer (old Reddit beloved #but it's not losing them ad revenue because we use an ad blocker so they probably don't give a shit either way #:/#saltposting #actually ETA I think a lot of things we hate about the Internet under late stage capitalism is. why does everything have to change layouts #all the time #for no good reason #like if it works there's no need to fix it #but nooo endless growth blah blah blah maximise user engagement blah blah blah money etc #how about retain the users you already have by remaining what they liked about you in the first place. ever think about stability?#there is a reason why we have autoupdates turned off on our phone and there's like 5 apps that are FORBIDDEN to update #Tumblr because we don't like the overhauls to the notes section (the ones where they're coloured differently based on read/unread #instead of on people you follow/don't follow)#Discord because the new layout looks like absolute shit and having DMs separate from servers would be hell for our processing #and ability to respond to both #our red filter app because it's gonna stop filtering wallpaper to comply with Android regulations and that's a no from us #are the main three but I think there might be others I'm not thinking of #anyway. yeah #I wish for predictable apps that don't suddenly throw new layouts at you every time you've finally gotten used to the last change #I don't wanna be kept on my toes real life does enough of that. It didn’t happen YET is what I always say to the ever expanding list of WIPs in my notes. Your time will come, my child! One day.

Also eh, I don’t really have a fic I’ve really given up on. Back in the day I had a reylo fic which I really liked the dialogue of, but didn’t feel it fit the characters very well at the point the story was set in, so I scrapped it and never posted. I might recycle some of it into another fic one day, but the problem was also that it didn’t really have a plot, only vibes that would have BENEFITED from a slight pinch of plot. So, alas.

#I keep everything in my notes app on my tablet. there's stuff in here that is a decade old #so realistically a bunch of it will never see the light of day. but it could!!! so it’s not given up on

Currently reading: I have been slowly churning my way thru Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. 1950s Mexicana socialite must go investigate her cousin’s mysterious illness. the cousin lives in a spooky manor after she has married into the once-rich family of a British aristocrat, whose failed mining enterprise hangs over the town like a spectre. ALSO Tombs by Junji Ito—I very much enjoyed the title story and the one about the deep sea creature.

Currently watching: Recently finished Kingdom, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s a korean period drama with zombies. The king dies while the queen is waiting to give birth, and the current heir starts a coup. What do you do if you’re from the queen’s clan and desperately want to stay in power? Why, infecting the king’s corpse and turning him into a zombie sounds like a great way to buy time until you have a new heir. The costuming is excellent (THE!!!!! HATS!!!!!!) and the characters are genuinely so likeable.

Current obsession: I blame david tenant’s wonderful acting because after bingeing good omens 3 times in the past few weeks I have now returned to doctor who and am attempting to watch the 13th doctor. it’s fine. not the best quality writing. Im curious to see where this “lone cyberman” plot goes. the evil microplastics episode was silly. i want to know more about “ruth.” i liked the mary shelley bits, but I am slightly put off by the writers not letting thirteen think on the fly. ten always used to come up with these crazy schemes in the moment. meanwhile, in the mary shelley episode, they keep asking thirteen for help and she goes “yeah my brain isn’t working right now check back later.” like, hm. I don’t like the written in incompetence. or perhaps it’s the phrasing/set up of it that’s getting to me? it’s not that there weren’t challenges that were tough for ten, but the writers’ hand wasn’t so….evident? it always felt like big time lord brain working on the problem. now it’s as if they’re telling us “hush we haven’t gotten there yet so just deal with her being dumb no we will not give you more info yet or a satisfying reason for her to act this way.” i’m also not the biggest fan of the whole “oh look at me i’m talking to myself” jokes. I know they’re trying to make the character quirky and likeable, but the joke wasn’t funny the first time and now i’ve heard it like 8 times. save me. I have heard that her final season is better, so hopefully that’s true. I think I will be taking a break for now though so that I can watch more star trek lol
