my advice to ppl who feel angry or doomer-y when frank iero opens his big fat mouth without thinking to think back and consider: do you trust gerard ways artistic integrity and instincts for mcr? Bc thats why i pretty much never react to the band being quiet or weird announcements or whatever. It's really not all that surprising that the Daycare Attendant ended up being so popular, to the point that there's a whole subsection of FNAF fandom that's p much just the DCA.

For starters, there's Security Breach itself. Security Breach is a vastly different FNAF game from its predecessors. Instead of being a jumpscare-driven task management simulator, it is a free-roam exploration and puzzle game, also with jumpscares. Instead of a security guard with their butt glued to their office chair, you're playing as a kid trapped in the mall. That difference in format and story setup attracted a whole new crowd of players to FNAF.

Next is character design. Unlike the majority of animatronics in the killer robot furry franchise, the DCA is a lanky, vaguely human shaped jester with a dinnerplate head and a creepy fixed smile. That appeals to folks who might not be as much into the robot furries, but like lanky creepy jesters (I am one of those people).

Security Breach also FINALLY develops the animatronics into actual characters, rather than interchangeable jumpscares. It's not a coincidence that prior to SB, the most popular animatronic was Springtrap-- an animatronic outright possessed by the defacto main antagonist of the series. I still remember the sheer fuzzy excitement upon hearing the first teaser trailer where we found out that we would be playing as a kid and that Freddy was our friend. That's still so cool! Freddy is our friend!

But character is where the Daycare Attendant really blows everyone else out of the water.

Sun is, after Freddy and Vanessa, the NPC with the most lines of dialogue (ten). Sun and Vanessa are the only antagonists that speak directly to Gregory, rather than just having vague hunting lines. For comparison, of the Glamrocks only Roxy has a single line of interaction with another animatronic ("Get out of my room, Freddy!") and her pep talk in the mirror at the start of the game. Monty and Chica might as well be interchangeable, both only having hunting lines.

Hell, out of Moon's nineteen voice lines, eight of them are laughs, blowing away Vanny's whopping two lines in the entire game.

Sun is the only* FNAF antagonist that does not have a jumpscare sting when he grabs Gregory, and is one of the few antagonists that does not kill the player upon jumpscaring them. Sun is outright non-hostile towards Gregory, coming off as overbearing but genuinely friendly. In a FNAF game.

Kellen Goff's phenomenal voice acting further fleshes out the DCA's character, giving us solid foundations for their personalities. Sun is anxious, friendly, and bossy. Moon is a downright giggle gremlin, sadistic and playful. Both of them are childish, and the contrast between their personalities and their job as child caretakers makes them stand out even more.

It's also worth mentioning that the Daycare is one of the earliest sections of the game, easily reached within the first thirty minutes of playtime. This makes it very likely to have been seen by people who either ended up not finishing the game itself, or any let's play series they were watching. It's also one of the most complete sections of the game, with clear, easy to understand mechanics and a decent challenge, making it more enjoyable to play than some of the later puzzles.

So, yeah. Why wouldn't there be a whole subsection of fandom built around some of the most well developed and interesting characters in the entire franchise, from an installment that attracted a new crowd of people who were probably already looking for something different from the traditional FNAF experience?

*As far as I know there are no other FNAF animatronics that perform a jumpscare animation without an accompanying sound, but it's not impossible that there's someone in UCN that I've overlooked.

They’ve long harbored a dark obsession with her, seeing her as a symbol of their agency’s success but also a possession to dominate, a way to assert their control in a world where they feel increasingly irrelevant. They first plan to target starting from the oldest - Minji.

On the night of her independent group’s concert, the CEOs devise a plan to kidnap Minji, intending to break her spirit and bind her to them through a depraved ritual they believe will ensure the Agency’s dominance in the industry, a twisted act they justify as a “sacrifice” for the company’s future. They lure her to a late-night “emergency meeting” at the agency’s studio to talk about discussions of letting Newjeans rejoin the agency again, so they called the leader - Minji.

Although Minji was about go to a concert that night with the outfit on the first picture, she decided to meet the CEOs instead and let the other members- Hanni, Daniellie, Hyein and Haerin peform for her.

As she arrives the agency building, literally when she was walking in the stairs, one guy grabs her, pressing a cloth soaked in sedative to her face, her slender body going limp as she’s whisked away to a secluded, its mirrored walls reflecting the horror about to unfold.

Minji wakes up in a few minutes, her head pounding, her body tied to a cold metal table in the dimly lit warehouse, the flickering fluorescent lights casting eerie shadows on the mirrored walls. She’s still in her concert outfit - a black sleeveless top and ruffled skirt - but her stockings and boots are gone, leaving her legs bare and vulnerable. Panic surges through her as she sees her four CEOs surrounding her, their fat bodies looming like grotesque shadows, their eyes glinting with malice. “Why… why are you doing this? What happened” [in Korean] she seeks for explanation with a rude face, her voice trembling, her mind racing with fear and confusion. She thinks of her fans, her group members, and the dreams she’s worked so hard for, now unsure what will happen. “You’re a bitch Minji,” one CEO sneers, his voice dripping with contempt, “You think you’re the star? We made you famous and now your whole group left us, and we’ll break you to keep our agency on top… How dare you guys leave our agency..” Another CEO chuckles darkly, adding, “This is your sacrifice for the company—your body for our success. First is you, next is Hanni”.. Minji’s heart sinks upon hearing this, her thoughts a whirlwind of despair—she wants to scream, to fight, but the ropes binding her arms and legs leave her helpless, her skinny frame trembling as she realizes the depth of their depravity.

The ordeal begins with a degrading act of forced intimacy, as one CEO grabs Minji’s face, his chubby fingers digging into her cheeks, and forces his lips onto hers, his breath reeking of alcohol and cigarettes.

He kisses her aggressively, his tongue invading her mouth, and spits a thick wad of saliva into it, the taste bitter and nauseating, making Minji gag as she tries to turn her head away. Minji tries to push but shes full tied up.. She wants to break the mouthful kiss badly.

“Swallow it, you little bitch,” the CEO growls, giving Minji a hard slap on her cheek to enforce his command.. Next, another CEO takes his turn, pressing his lips to hers, his saliva mixing with the first CEO’s, the slimy exchange leaving Minji’s mouth coated in their spit, her stomach churning with disgust. She thinks of how she’s been reduced from a beloved idol to a plaything, her tears streaming down her face as the CEOs laugh, their voices echoing in the warehouse, “She’s learning her place already!” The forced kissing lasts for several minutes, each CEO taking multiple turns, slapping her face rough, their and Minji's saliva dripping down her chin, the act a humiliating prelude to the horrors ahead, as Minji’s mind screams for escape, her body unable to resist their overpowering strength.

The CEOs escalate their assault, their anger and obsession boiling over into violence, as one CEO rips off Minji’s concert outfit, tearing the fabric with his bare hands, leaving her naked and exposed on the metal table, her skinny 5'5" body, healthy frame shivering in the cold air. Another CEO grabs a leather belt from his waist, his fat fingers gripping it tightly, and without any warning or signs, begins whipping her, the belt lashing across her chest, face and stomach, each strike leaving red welts on her pale skin, the pain sharp and searing. "AHHH NO, STOP. please-!" [Minji screams in pain in Korean]… “You think you’re better than us?” the CEO shouts, his voice filled with rage, as he delivers another lash, this time across her chest, making Minji cry out, her voice hoarse with agony. Another CEO steps forward, his fist clenched, and punches her in the stomach, the impact knocking the wind out of her, her skinny body doubling over, her mind screaming for it to stop, “Please, I can’t take this,” she thinks, but the beatings continue, the CEOs taking turns punching her arms, thighs, and stomach, their blows leaving bruises on her fragile frame, while a third CEO whips her back with the belt, the sound of leather against skin echoing in the mirrored room as the nonstop beatings continues, Minji’s screams keep growing louder and louder due to more pain.

—she wonders if she’ll survive this, if her career, her life, will ever be the same. The beatings continue for what feels like an eternity, the CEOs taking turns punching her arms, thighs, and stomach, their blows leaving bruises on her fragile frame, while another CEO whips her back with the belt, the sound of leather against skin echoing in the warehouse, Minji’s screams growing weaker as her strength fades, her mind clinging to the hope that someone might save her. As the CEOs untie Minji from the table, the CEOs then, Minji now being untied, force her to sit on the concrete floor, her bruised body trembling with exhaustion, her mind a whirlwind of fear and humiliation.

Two CEOs position themselves in front of her, their fat bodies blocking her view of the mirrors, and begin a hardcore deepthroat, one CEO grabbing her hair and shoving his penis into her mouth with ruthless force, the act so rough that Minji’s throat constricts.

Years 318-326: return to my tower to do further research into the end of the world situation, which again proves fruitless but I had to check again. Spend the rest of the time figuring out how to give my tower legs and walk it from the town to the shore so that the bass player could visit me easily. She comes and goes with the tides but I certainly don't mind.

Years 326-341: the bass player says she'd like to give the band another try and after some preparations End of the World Disposables hit the roads again, met with confused reviews as to the meaning of our over a century long absence, such as “wait, my grandma told me about them” and “how aren't these guys dead yet?”. A 120-year old venerated martial arts master comes to our first performance and after the show in tears of joy tells us how he saw me and the bass player beat the shit out of each other on stage a hundred years ago which was the most beautiful thing he ever did see and inspired his determination to master the arts of violence. Years 420-440: some scientist has analyzed the songs from End of the World Disposables and connected their themes to the motions of some celestial bodies, which resulted in his discovery that the world’s got about fifty years until it's over. Many countries are submerged in chaos and although me and the other entities of knowledge explain that the situation can't be helped, everyone is blamed and life is largely made worse for many people. I and the bass player announce sovereignty of our tower-port and I try to burn the local town hall as a show of strength but miss and burn my tower again. The bass player is too busy dueling the mayor to stop it this time. This is largely considered a bad call by everyone and I swear to never attempt such a garish display of pyromantic dominance again. The bass player runs for mayor and is unanimously elected.

Years 440-441: rebuild the tower.

Years 441-498: chill, have a little treat, support the bass player in her endeavors to establish a restorative justice system and provide basic universal income, which results in her little port being one of the places least affected by the waves of the end of the world panic

Years 499-500: contact my friends and discuss our plans for the end of the world, decide what to do in the meanwhile. Write a song for the first time in a century which ends up being quite cheesy and mostly about the bass player but she does seem to like it, so that's good.

Pornography Addiction

Recently our post on the behavour of Capital-G Gamers, and the problems in the industry that feed into it, attracted a lot of comments advising not to use "porn addict". Some claiming the term was invented by right-wing Christian groups.

It is certainly true that there are various right-wing and/or Christian groups do claim pornography addiction as a reason to revoke basic human rights, further marginalize sex workers, and justify violence against sex workers... that doesn't mean they invented it.

Like most things the radical right relies upon, they co-opted it from a group they have contempt for. Nazis co-opted the Swastika from Buddhism, shitty men on Reddit co-opted involuntary celibacy terminology from a bisexual woman, right-wing pseudo-academics tried to co-opt diversity with their "diversity of thought" campaign... and hateful Christian groups are trying to co-opt expertise on behavioural addictions (sex, gambling, shopping, pornography, etc as opposed to substance addtions) from psychology.

It's worth examining how this is working with pornography and the ways it ties in with the various fashy parties determined to rule the world we all live in.

Actual Pornography Addiction

Actual pornography addiction has its roots in similar addictions such as gambling - it is a situation where the individual becomes obsessed with it as a source of positive feelings, to the detriment of themselves and those around them.

Symptoms of it include a full blown obsession, a loss of interest in other enjoyable activities, spending money needed for essentials on the focus of the addiction, engaging it under risk circumstances (such as while at a job that you really need to keep), suffering anxiety and frustration when unable to indulge, etc.

Importantly, with these kinds of addictions, they are often not really about what what they appear to be. People get addicted sometimes because it's a reliable source of dopamine hits, or because it provides an escape from harsh realities around them, etc. Taking the focus of the addiction away does not fix the underlying cause, and often leads to them finding a substitute addiction.

So, if you say... for the sake of argument, you have a group of people who actively identify as "gooners", remember a porn parody of Lola Bunny as the "real" design, obsess over a single game because it has some sexy skins, make 9/11 jokes and riot when a quality of life feature prevents them from looking up video game girl skirts, and all the points in the original post (including want to fap to a character who is defined by how she's been abused by men)... it's not unreasonable to point out they do seem to be advertising to the world that they are current or aspiring pornography addicts. Particularly since their outrage is rarely about what they actually claim it is about.

How much it applies to any given member of that community is impossible to say, as the whole group is irony poisoned and also obsessed with performative behaviour.

And as a side note, if someone dear to you has similar behavior, whether its in relation to porn, sex, gambling, video games, or anything else - then it is generally considered the compassionte thing to try to get them to realize it and work towards addressing both the addiction and any underlying causes in their life.

Right-wing "Pornography Addiction"

When people who have nothing but contempt for psychology and sex therapists say "porn addiction" or "sex addiction" they are villifying sex workers and objectified persons, blaming them for the violence done against them and completely unrelated ills in society.

They consider it "addiction" if you develop a crush on someone other than your spouse, have normal sexual fantasies, occasionally want to enjoy pornography, are curious about visiting a strip bar or even just masturbate... under any circumstances.

They are closer to anti-pornography than concerned for addiction, and has a long, long history. I would hope BABD followers would be aware we are definitely not anti-porn and we actively support sex workers.

Obviously, the real goal is to give them more control and more avenues to suppress people. This is clearly illustrated in the ways Project 2025 both wants to outlaw pornography and define "transgender ideology" as pornograpy. You can see between the lines, the goal isn't to make people better, the goal is to criminalize the existence of people they look down on.

Also, the solutions they propose clearly don't help anyone and they know that - South Korea has strict anti-porn laws, and the "gooner" community mistake it for a porny wonderland. Again, they don't want to help anyone, they just want to hurt people they do not like.

The harm of co-opting

At face value, it's easy to see why the proposed solution to this is just to say it's not real, it's right-wing nonsense, etc.

But that creates two problems. First it means there's people with a problem that is being denied, and secondly it kind of ignores the real overall goals by missing the forest for the trees.

People whose lives are harmed by behavioural addiction need a framework to be able to address it, and need other people to take it seriously and not just dismiss it as "made up". This applies to gambling, shopping, gaming and pornography.

Think about it, when was the last time you saw a swastika on display as a symbol of positivity? Think "incel" is ever coming back to the LGBTQ people who struggle to find people accepting of them?

Secondly, the reactionaries co-opting it are not "making up" a boogieman. They're not that imaginative and they're much, much more dishonest and malicious.

They're actively spreading misinformation in an attempt to gain for authoritarian power to use to harm people. They're actively trying to undermine the work people have done to help people, stripping the actual research away and placing themselves as the authority on a topic of public wellbeing that they see only as a cudgel.

Because they won't stop at just claiming to be the experts on pornography addiction, they'll claim to be the experts on gambling, drugs, alcohol, gaming, shopping, etc. All their advice will be what's convenient for them, and their friends.

Same way all kinds of psychological concepts get co-opted into torturing people under the claim of conversion therapy (which does not and has never worked, in any capacity), often in the name of profit as well as oppression.

So my recommendation is be less concerned about the term appearing, and more concerned about whether it is in the context of warning people their obsession is harmful - or just trying to trick people into agreeing to authoritarian control.
