just finished Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and it is a game written by cowards for cowards.
the final twist genuinely ruins the game. it's so stupid as a narrative decision. i hate it so much. it almost makes me understand what the people yelling about The Last Jedi being too subservient to its themes were yelling about (OBVIOUSLY not the ones that were being bigoted and loud and wrong about it, but just the ones who had actual issues with its narrative directions/execution). genuinely, the twist takes what could have been an extremely solid 8.5, maybe a 9/10 game down to a 4/10 game with nothing of interest to say deluding itself into thinking it's saying anything of worth by thoughtlessly repeating patterns as if that's supposed to generate meaning without any real effort of actually committing to that meaning, or seeing the world as anything beyond its basic binary worldview of Good and Bad.
putting that twist in fundamentally cuts the legs out from any actual, interesting and substantive critique it could have leveled at the legal system and our feelings about people on trial and their perceived guilt or innocence, and it just ends up reinforcing it as a power of good that Will Ultimately Prevail In The Search For Truth, as if that is even remotely a thing any legal system is concerned with, especially the one in the game that mostly just stumbles into The Right Choices because it's a game controlled by the player. it's frankly ideologically incoherent to the point of saying nothing because its critique is unfocused and toothless. best it can muster is "maybe some people are corrupt and lying, but if You take Advantage of The System, you can beat them" as if malicious compliance is supposed to change the system. fuck off.
ran out of tags but. i'm serious about this lol, i really hate it as a narrative and ideological choice. the game threatens to say something bold and interesting and then just pulls the rug out from underneath you. it sucks. it's very much like 12 Angry Men in that way, i think, except at least that movie Knows what it's saying and that its basic premise is its ideological downfall, this just doesn't really feel like it says anything much interesting or coherent, ultimately, because the criticism either drowns in the length and comedic nature of it, or just ultimately isn't focused and pointed and nuanced enough to actually say something meaningful. like ik someone's gonna do a "kid's game" thing but hello, kid's shit has always been nuanced and just bc it's "for kids" doesn't mean it has to abide by some binary ass morality that flattens all its interesting critique, especially when you're constantly led, structurally, to the more interesting and nuanced narrative choice only to have a twist completely ruin it and making it all feel like a waste of your time. plenty of things are nuanced and interesting and "for kids" without deflating their themes and messages by writing a stupid twist that undercuts the interesting parts of its arguments.

suddenly realising that a decent amount of our system's dysfunctions might be due to OCD 😭😭😭
#i dont even know how to explain the thought process im having but i think i found the root of one of our major issues#like. it stems from our start in the tulpa community. the worry that we're 'forcing' or 'puppeting' someone who wants to be independent#we didn't know where the line was in willogenicism of where you stop controlling them and they're fully independent#that idea becoming a dysfunction was fully because we personally misunderstood our own system origins we were never willo#the community we were in was really helpful in helping us figure out that we are an adaptive system not a created one#it felt like 'controlling' them because we were more of a proxy-median sys back then and the lines between us were blurred#now it's easier to see the distinction between everyone's thoughts and actions but back then we were only just aware of being a sys#but it seems to have evolved into a sense of never knowing when a headmate is fully formed and when it's okay to 'influence' their forming#avoiding headmates BECAUSE we're worried about fucking up their formation#but then that in itself fucks up their formation because they have less time in front to solidify fully#how we neglect our own system and fellow headmates out of worry of fucking it up#yeah that might be an ocd symptom#finally breaking that barrier of worrying we're mislabeling our issues as OCD and it's pretty provable we have it now#has had a sudden and huge impact on how much anxiety we're having on a daily basis#like we're all super weirded out right now because this sense of calmness and assuredness in who we are and what we're doing#is. so weird and alien. its like two layers of an art program were misaligned and it looked super chaotic before#and someone just clicked like 3 buttons and realigned it perfectly and the whole image suddenly makes sense and is less eyestraining#our heart palpitations have slowed down too. like that's a Physical indicator our anxiety is hugely reduced#just from having that knowledge of WHY my brain is the way it is and knowing what exactly to ask for help with if i need it#same with figuring out we were autistic it was a whole worldshift that made everything make so much more sense#i felt like so many of my mental issues were a confusing soup of randomness and I'd never find a real diagnosis for any of it#like we were just some mental frankenstein of disparate symptoms that would always be an outlier in a way#just didn't want to spend our life being essentially 'undiagnosable' because we were just too weird and confusing and niche#now it's like. oh. oh shit all these unrelated things are actually related? that makes so much more sense now#connecting all these separately distressing behaviours that were never thought to need comparing before#because it all felt so truly unrelated it didn't even occur but now i see they all come from almost the exact same places#and also finding out recently that a lot of mental conditions I've considered i might have but weren't sure about#are classified as ANXIETY disorders. that makes a ton of sense to me now. i never knew OCD was an anxiety disorder until now#if i had known that sooner i probably would have connected the dots years ago I've KNOWN about my anxiety#i am diagnosed with GAD i knew these issues were anxiety based but OCD makes my behaviours from that anxiety make more sense

have to work on a project today and an unrelated thing happened that just made me so so so so so mad (just some irl personal stuff), which normally derails my entire day because i find it so hard to come out of the angry/upset state and tend to just circle back and obsess over whatever triggered it but! today after 20 minutes of that i had a council meeting about it (<- what i call my decision making process) the outcome of which was putting it aside (!!!) for later when i could actually talk about it and resolve it (!!!) & in the meantime we could just do other stuff.
local man exuberant and jubilated to achieve feats of basic emotional self-regulation and was seen excitedly telling reporters he "never thought this day would come" and began giving a thank you speech to nobody in particular. more on this story as it develops
#good idea generator#more and more i find the most effective way to get things done is to have like. a council discussion in my head about it#my thoughts always feel really noisy especially when im upset & its easier to process what im thinking/feeling#if i imagine it as coming from many different sources with different opinions. rather than contradictory ones from me#bc then i get stressed about the contradictions. council discussion is easy bc you can let everyone say their whole perspective#so everyone gets listened to + then theres space to ask questions like 'is this helping or hurting?'#if you're wondering who 'we/everyone' is. its me. this is probably obvious but i never know what is typical when explaining how i think#or if im explaining it in a way that makes sense and is accurate to whats actually going on up there#arguably i dont think any language is ever truly 'accurate' to whats going on up there#feels like trying to see if other people see the same red as you do. what do you ask? and when you think you know how do you check?#anyway. i like the council because i used to just try to shut down negative or spirally thoughts#and it never worked ever it just made me feel more out of control. whereas now i have to listen to the whole thing#+ try to identify what the underlying fear or need is and try to address THAT#also awhile back i read the handbook for internal family systems therapy which has def influenced how i think of myself#now i have never actually done ifs or spoken to a practising professional so grain of salt and whatever#but i have found it is by far the way that makes the most sense for me personally to think abt myself and try to solve problems internally

IN A NUTSHELL:#we did the gift giving at around 17:30 . then i sat down to play little nightmares with my sibling because its like a tradition#that we replay at least one of the games on the switch (by splitting the controller in half) at the end of the year#and then i went upstairs at around 22:00 and did some packing around my room to make space for the new books and my brain model#anyways. around that time i take all systems red by martha wells into my hands and decide to start reading#at around 23:20 i am fully done with my nightly routine so i sit down and decide to read a bit before bed#because ive been very excited about putting my paws on this book series#anyways its now 1 AM and i have chewed my way through 123 pages of that book. someone help me.#ghost once said#AND IMPORTANT NOTE. I WAS READING ATTENTIVELY. I COULDVE READ WAAAY FASTER. BUT THAT WOULDVE MEANT I WAS PAYING 0 ATTENTION#SO I WAS ACTUALLY REREADING A COUPLE OF PAGES DURING THIS GRIND.
