Do you think you speak too fast/ too slow?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is what I learned from a speech coach.
warm up:
start this exercise by taking a deep breath and saying “aaaaah” - try to extend this to 30 seconds. Now if it doesn’t go till 30, that’s fine. Aim to work your way to that. If you can work it up to 30, go for 45/60 seconds. Do this 5 times.
next. Download an app called Metronome beats. It’s basically what singers/ musicians use for beats.
Settings: keep beats/bar as 1,
clicks/beats as 1
start at 90. It will start with a click sound and continue “beeping.”
Match your words to the beep. One beep = one word. Now slowly, increase the beat by 5 till you reach 110. Increase it at your own pace but try to spend at least 20 seconds on each number (90 for 20 seconds; 95 for 20; 100 for 20….) That’s when you stop.
either start by reading something out loud and matching the beat, or select a topic and speak freely.
do this every single day. This will help with your breath, if you’re speaking on a topic it will help you think better and improve over time. The best way to further complement this exercise is to improve your vocabulary. Try to learn 1-3 new words a day and incorporate it in your vocabulary.
This is a great tool to use when learning new languages too. You can practice your speaking skills and see how fast you can remember/ read words.

In one of your recent posts, you said something about thinking that Machete is doomed to repeat his mistake of choosing a joyless and soul-sucking career path in the modern AU (albeit without the disastrous outcome of his original timeline).
I like to think that eventually, he changes to something less "high-achieving" but more aligned with his passions. Perhaps he learns that the stress is affecting his health and could eventually shorten his time with Vasco. I don't know, I like to believe that Vasco would succeed in encouraging him to leave that toxic environment the way he wasn't able to in canon. What do you think?
Oh I like that idea! He'd get tunnel visioned to having a successful career just like in the original setting, but this time around he has the sense, guts and freedom to change the trajectory. Managing to avert the sunk cost fallacy that kept his former self tightly leashed.
Vasco could try to talk sense into him when he sees him getting sucked deeper into workaholism, but ultimately it's up to Machete himself to see that his work is actively harming him and their relationship and to make the pivotal decision to climb out of the simmering pot.
It's also fun to think about him in between jobs, with excess free time for the first time since he was little, a state that is uncomfortable and unnatural to him. Just existing and trying to figure out what he actually wants to do with his life. Maybe this is the point where he'd get really into baking. Or he'd spend his days religiously cleaning their apartment in order to still feel useful and in control. Listening to fashion history podcasts while scrubbing the grout between the tiles of their bathroom for the third time this month.

if you like my drawings and/or my posting and want to get me a coffee or a snack, you can do so HERE
whether you tip or not, i thank you all for being funny with me and liking what i do :')
.
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝
and to celebrate this joyful(?) occasion, i'm doing a free commission!
if you want it, write something with 'fish' in it in the replies during the next *looks at watch* 4 hours or until i reblog this post calling it closed. winner will be chosen via the appropriate dice roll
if you wish for a character, the style will be sketchy and colored in watercolor in the style of this or this or this. you can put the character in a situation as long as the background is minimal. if you instead wish for some other kind of the work you've seen me do, we can discuss it. drawing will be posted on my tumblr; winning fish will get it in high res as well. as always, this artwork is for personal use
good luck!

Problem: laundry is boring
Solution: bury phone in pile of to-be-folded clothes so that you cannot pick it up and must instead fold your clothes to access it
Subsequent Problem: Spotify Ad comes on and makes this unbearable
How This Is Actually A Good Thing: makes you more motivated to hurry up folding so you get to your phone and mute the ad

I need to keep reminding myself that im making the comic for me. That im telling this story because im a little crazy about it.
Im making all of this on my free time after work so I shouldnt feel guilty about not pumping out artwork after artwork.
I know so many people are waiting excitedly, so am I, but making a comic takes time and work. This whole thing is probably going to take so much longer than I think it will.
Nobody is pressuring me either so taking time for myself is not a bad thing. Even if people forget about my stuff and it doesnt get engagement its not the end of the world.
I am making this for myself. Just because I like it. Just because I enjoy creating.

sometimes looking at like Self Help Strategies lists for the symptoms I'm having is always just like:
thing that I already do
thing I have tried 10 times
thing I already do
thing that I don't have the money to do
thing I already do
thing I've been doing since I was 10yrs old to no avail
thing that is impossible given my situation
thing that doesn't apply to me
thing that I already do
thing I have already tried
hrmm, oh wait, maybe finally- OH, yeah.. okay. thing that I already do but it was just phrased slightly differently
thing I have already done
#I think maybe productivity tips help less if the reason you're unproductive is partially like.. physcial health and other extenral things#out of your control. rather than just like having trouble paying attention or spending too much time on tiktok or whatever#all the strategic to do lists in the world are not going to somehow prevent me from waking up with a debilitating migraine or whatever#or having external stressors or lacking resources and connections or other Productivity Essentials etc.#especially many tips involve stuff like 'cut off from social media' since thats the modern day time waster for so many poeple#and it's like.. lol.. i can hardly even maintain a blog even thuogh i actively WANT TO DO SO. 'shut off your smart phone!' already#done babey i fucking hate smart phones i shall never use an app unless i am forced to. 'delete tiktok' yep. already covered. tiktok and#all of those thinsg are my enemies. 'save money by cancelling some of your services' cool. already ahead of you.#who the fuck is out here paying for like 10 different subscription services. pirated videos uploaded to google drive and youtube to mp3#my beloved. etc. etc. and so on. 'socialize less' .........LOL.. if only you knew.. mr.writer of the article. i can barely muster#talking to friends more than once a month and even less if I'm actively sick (often occurence) etc. etc. ... hewoo#I think maybe instead of generic productivity tips I need more like.. how to refocus and be productive anyway even if you have a headache#or are nauseous or etc. Not that those are always things to ignore. and of course you should let your body rest and etc. But plenty of peop#e have mild physical symptoms and just work through them. Ithink something about the way my body/mind is SOO hyper attuned to all#sensory information just makes it like... constantly 'GRR well I cant focus on WRITING right now because my lef#t ear feels weird and my socks are too itchy and my back has a strange pressure and I'm vaguely warm and my eye feels some ssort of#way it doesnt normally feel and I'm hyperaware of my breathing and also nauseous for no reason' and like half of those things I#think '''normal''' people wouldnt even notice or at least would be able to just live through. but for me it's like.. nealry impossible to i#gnore and soooo distracting always. like 'wahh.. nooo we can't draw or get anything done.. my legs feel slightly heavy or something!!'#like............. ok......... who cares. thats not even a PAIN sensation it's just something weird. but it's just like.. NO. constant#mental alerts about the 'heaviness' of your legs be upon ye. Though Imean like.. yes.. 70% of the time I am in genuine pain#or having some sort of actual ailment with trackable physical symptoms. but sometimes it's just like... we could totally be working right#now and ignoring this silly thing but my brain is fixated on it for no reason uncontrollably. etc. etc. I guess it's the same way that like#most people can go to a grocery store without the whole experience being so overwhelming and so much stuff going on at once#that they have to rest afterwards but like.. in my own HOME doing NOTHING i feel like I should be able to not get overwhelmed lol. ANYWAY#Rolling my bastard little rock up a dumbass hill and so on and so forth

hii! I’m in university in my 3rd year and all is going well but i’m starting to have a super packed schedule. i’m getting everything done on time but some lab and club responsibilities have taken the brunt of my new schedule. do you have any recommendations for staying on top of your work (and not neglecting yourself in the meantime)?
Currently going through this, so I completely understand where you're coming from. Here are some of my tips:
Prioritize sleep and make getting at 6-7 hours of rest a non-negotiable in your life
Walk as much as you can to get some movement in and fresh air
Focus on eating healthy meals at least 80% of the time. Take your vitamins every day if you need any
Give yourself at least 30 minutes in the morning before you need to get ready/get started with your day
Have a work cutoff time for yourself every night. Book some relaxation time into your schedule daily (especially before bed)
Find one or two simple routines that you really enjoy and can easily incorporate into your day (mine are a cup of coffee in the morning and a walk home/a shower with tea in the evening)
Reframe the idea/habit of rest and not neglecting your needs as a burnout prevention strategy not "being lazy"
Hope this helps xx

perfect morning routine 💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. wake up early (5:30-6:30 am): start the day off with waking up early to make your mornings feel less rushed.
2. hydrate (5 minutes): drink a glass of water to kickstart your metabolism and rehydrate after a night’s sleep.
3. yoga (10-15 minutes): a short yoga session can help loosen muscles and improve blood flow.
4. meditation (5-10 minutes): practicing deep breathing to center your mind and reduce stress for the day ahead.
5. exercise (20-30 minutes): moderate workouts like a jog, bodyweight exercises, or cycling to boost your energy levels and release endorphins.
6. healthy breakfast (20 minutes): aim for a balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. (if you take daily vitamins, do it after having breakfast)
7. shower/skin care (15-20 minutes): refresh yourself and do your skincare routine.
8. daily intentions/scheduling (5 minutes): write and/or vocalize your priorities or goals for the day. you can use a calendar or a journal. this will help you with getting all important things done.
all 8 steps do not need to be done every day but consistency brings the best results!! this routine will leave you feeling energized with a clear mind to start the day!!

“do the hardest task first”
no. just… no.
hot take: this doesn’t work for people with adhd (in my experience/from what i’ve heard from other people with adhd in my life). i recommend doing the easy/moderately difficult stuff first, that way you can convince yourself that it’s all going to be this easy and undemanding. then hyper-focus will kick in because your brain is like, “yeah, we can do this, we’ve got this.” then, before you know it, you’ve completed both the easy tasks and the hard tasks while hyperfocusing.
like, on a serious note, it’s always been easier for me to convince myself to get the most difficult tasks done when i’m already working/in the working frame of mind, not when i’m laying in bed or sitting on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through stuff on my phone, and struggling to start at all.
if the choice comes down to you not starting at all or starting with the easiest task first (which, for me, it often does), always, always pick starting with the easiest task first. sometimes you need a small victory, a little bit of an accomplishment, to give you the courage to take on bigger challenges.

Some tools I use to keep my work life organized
Paper planner - All of my daily tasks are on my paper planner. The one I use has a full page per day, which is a must for me with how busy I am.
Time blocking (digital calendar) - I put all of my recurring tasks as repeating events on my digital calendar. This way, I know approximately when I want to do them, how long they will take, how busy I am, etc. This also makes sure that I keep track of them, since recurring events are fairly foolproof. It's also very easy to move them around just by dragging and dropping. As a note, I do also include these tasks as daily tasks in my paper planner, so that I can see them all in one place.
Flagged emails & unread emails - I use flagged emails to indicate that I need to remember or reference something. I mark emails as unread to indicate that it's an urgent task I haven't addressed. My goal is to have 0 unread emails at the end of each day, but I may flag a lot of emails through the day for later. I even have a time set away each week to go through my flagged emails.
Outlook email rules - I receive and send hundreds of emails every day. I took a couple of hours once I got settled in my role to set up 20+ rules to automatically categorise emails so that it's easier for me to go through them. For example, I have a folder where auto-generated reports go. I can open that folder and go through emails only in that category, which makes it a lot easier to tackle things in cohesive chunks.
Notebook - I use my notebook for any meeting notes I take. While I do have at least a dozen meetings weekly, my biggest use for this is during my twice-weekly team meeting where we divide up and plan tasks. During this meeting, I write my tasks in a notebook, and then I later add them to my planner. This allows me to take my time to plan them out as they fit in my schedule, while having detailed notes elsewhere.
Spreadsheets - I have a computer science background, so I am able to create very powerful spreadsheets. I created for our team multiple comprehensive tracking spreadsheets, so that we can keep track of (for example) thousands of contracts with ease. It took a while to perfect each tracker, but it's well worth the effort.
"Housekeeping" to-do list - My team has created a to-do list of housekeeping items, such as updating templates, etc. This list is mostly for me due to my role, so I tackle these smaller, less-urgent items when I have some spare time.
